Welcome to NoWhere

nowhere.jpg

Welcome to the paradoxical Pocket-Realm of NoWhere, a place that exists wedged between spaces and times.
It is a place that changes and grows over time, covered in dense mists and shrouded in many mysteries.
This Realm has a personality all it's own and for one reason or another has brought you into existence within this plane.
Nowhere takes the figure of a single crossroads around which a thriving town is taking shape, at the intersection you will find four Historic looking buildings each from a different civilization, but the further away from the intersection you go bizarre neighbored pairings begin to immerge. On a single block alone you could easily find a Victorian mansion, a authentic Ramen shop, and a futuristic mechanized emporium.
For now, the only road that isn't shrouded in mist and that will lead you anywhere besides back to the intersection is North st., but who knows what sort of changes your characters can have on this peculiar place.

If you were to follow North St you would end up at the Haven, the most prominent Bar & Inn and most-likely your first stop when getting acquainted within the realm.

Always WIP

The Premise

NoWhere is set up to be on the shallower side of roleplays, it's light on lore, rather mysterious, and open to all types of characters and mayhem. More than anything it is a setting to allow users to interact and socialize in a relaxed IC setting. It is a place to come and go at ones whim, but also explore to your hearts content. To test out new characters in a group setting, and to bump elbows with others who share interests. I made this thread with the intent on having the community have heavy influences on it, to that end it is perpetually growing and rearranging into a culminating cluster of ideas and places. If you want to add content to NoWhere, go to the OOC thread and make your suggestions there.

Rules
The Rules

  • All site rules apply (obviously)
  • I can update the rules accordingly, as I see fit.
  • Post a profile in the profile thread before posting. (you can have as many characters as you want, they just each have to have a separate CS)
  • All OOC should be done via the OOC Thread.
  • All suggestions for NoWhere will be considered, but please know that I reserve final judgement on additions.
  • Please only suggest additions in the OOC thread as I don't want my inbox to blow up.
  • Be Respectful of all users.
  • Those that want to become CO-GMs PM me. (always accepting)
  • The Realm is alive, deal with it.
  • Please post location at the top of each posts so people know where your character is.
  • See Battle Guidelines for rules on IC Fighting Etiquette.

Battle Guidelines

NoWhere has a unique CVC (Character-Verses-Character) Battle system that must be strictly adhered to as to retain some semblance of mutual respect between members.

It works in Six streams they are as follows:
Unaltered Duel | Even Keel | Leveled Field| Fair Fight | Test of Fates | No Holds Bar

Before getting into the weeds and explaining these different kinds of fights here are a few standard rules that apply.

All fights must be agreed upon by participants before the fight can begin.
This will nullify the realms corporeal defense system and allow physical hits of violence to land.
Failure to do so will cause any violent action towards another character to wisp through them like a ghost, leaving them completely unaffected.
Continued unsanctioned violent action will cause the very realm to become defensive; a word of caution.. it gets hungry when it's angry.
The only location for open air attacks is if someone is located in the Training grounds, where NHB actively applies.
In all forms of fighting except when agreed upon by all participants standard roleplay anti-powerplayer and God-mode provisions apply.

Please include the abbreviation of the selected Fight style at the bottom of the post so that we can keep track of them.
(UD/EK/LF/FF/TF/NHB)

Unaltered Duel

Akin to it's name this type of fight is between characters in their original state as posted on their character profile on their character sheet. It is important that you list all of your powers, even those that at the time of posting the sheet are locked, as all moves are locked in to that sheet. Ergo; you cannot just come up and use a super snazzy new power to escape a situation if the need arises. Your powers are your powers listed on the sheet, if they need updated feel free to Post an amendment however amendments cannot be made in the middle of a fight. This type of fight is meant to be a straightforward test of strength and whit, however it is supposed to be believable.. If you play a human, you will bleed, your bones will break, you will have limitations that others do not have.

Even Keel
This is a fight where the powers and stats of one of the characters is shared with both parties. Either the stronger of the two's powers are muted, effectively limiting them; or vice versa and the one with the disadvantage is imbued with all of the blessings of the other character. This type of fight is one way to test one's mettle in a more fair setting, somebody have a cool power that you want to try out? This is the fight for you.

Leveled Field
All powers, skills, and attributes muted both inherent and from weaponry. All stats set to 3 (athletic Human)
This type of fight is for those who want to prove themselves in manners that disregard advantage.

Fair Fight
In a fair fight, the participants set the rules... and the Realm Enforces them.

Test of Fates
Standard dice rules apply.
OR for a simplified version roll a 4 sided dye 1>4>3>2>1 same number blocks or dodges.
First to 20 hits or 3 consecutive hits in a row wins.

NO HOLDS BAR
No rules..
..except one.
When entering into to a No Holds Bar the environment becomes locked to the participants.
Meaning your attacks however strong will only effect you and the other participants or equipment that is being used in the fight.
Everything else will be a spectator, it will not bend or break or crumble, and much like open air attacks you will phase through non-participants.

Expectations
What to expect from this thread

I wanted to make this thread as a hang out spot for the community, somewhere that members can hop in and out with and entrance and exit post. Somewhere to gather and get to know one another IC, where everyone regardless of their ability would be welcome to test out characters or styles or throw around ideas. That being said, there are no post word-minimums, and case by case deadlines*. I just wanted to provide an interesting setting and see where all of us take it, there may be events or tournaments, or showcases somewhere down the line. One thing for sure is, that this thread is intended for us, for all of RPN in all of our varied interests. I made only a small portion of the setting purposely as I want the community to have the ability to build on what is put here. In many ways it is the ultimate mash up, but fully OC.

*I (or GMs) reserve the right to move the story along if there is evidence that someone is ghosting or being ghosted. The realm is sentient and will randomly interact with members, including to and up to eating them or suspending their existence within the realm. We will only do this after repeated failed attempts to contact the member in question.

The night was clear and the air humid from rain showers that littered the black asphalt roads and empty concrete streets. A gentle breeze swept across the perfectly cut grass and carried with it orange-red maple leaves. Following the breeze, it would lead you past a modern church, a catholic-Esque apartment building with a broken burnt sign, and green hedges that line the suburban lawns. Streetlights are places at intervals all the way down the road, lighting up the darkness with soft yellow light. The sky is clear today and promised serenity, stars breaking the endless void in a cascade of twinkles and blinks. Crickets chirp and sing, hidden from sight and filling the ringing of one's ears. Down the road was a wall of thick grey fog that seemed to expand and contract, like the ribs of a breathing animal, or the waves of a beach crashing against the shore. The fog ceased movement for one second. And red light began to cut through the mist, only slightly as a figure formed. The sound of crunching as metal marched on the pavement, the red light thinned, revealing three sputtering crimson dots darted about in an attempt to make sense of the surroundings. The mist carried some of its colors in a ghoulish fashion, wavering and blurred.

The figure became comprehensible in some aspects now. Metal plating. Sickly grey skin. Twin tails that writhed behind it as four diamond-shaped plates chattered against one another to its movements, folded down against its back like wings. Like a shivering beast. It was hunched over slightly, looking from left to right while attempting so hopelessly to figure out what happened. Where was it? It looked like human architecture, mismatched across time. Its joints clicked as it marched onwards, its tri-optic array rotating, dilating, then widening as it observed what now cradled it. The machines clawed feet sloshed in a puddle that laid strewn under a large yellow stoplight. The light was red. It couldn't help but feel willed to stop and look around. It didn't appear that any cars were coming down the road. As a matter of fact, he didn't see any cars parked in the driveways of suburban housing that was tucked beside a tall futuristic apartment building. It wasn't white or has blue lights, as one would imagine, but was just smooth all the way down with neon lights lining several windows.

Mariah was confused. Her brain was foggy. Forget that, her surroundings were foggy. This was odd. Too odd. Nevertheless, she took a few steps forward cautiously. When she stopped, a gust of wind blew against her. Scowling, she defensively swung her arm around and let a line of fire shoot behind her, her eyes turning red. The gust got strong enough, that she shielded her eyes, fire crackling in her palms as she buried her face in her elbow. When it stopped, she looked up, bracing herself for an attack of some sort, but found there was none. The fog had lifted, revealing strange surroundings.

Mariah looked in every direction, but couldn't seem to figure out where she was. Not caring about the stares from others in this strange area, she walked north. She was seeking warmth, as it was a bit chilly. She finally stumbled upon what looked to be an inn of some sort. Curious, but tense from this whole ordeal, she flared the fire in the palms of her hands, as small as it was since she was weaker from the chill in the air, and shoved open the door. Seeing the tranquil atmosphere inside, and without a second thought for the small crackling fire she left on the door, she walked inside, breathing a sigh of relief. It was warm inside.

Mariah spotted a rabbit like creature, staring at it intensely for a few moments, suspicious, before shuffling off to the side of the room, closer to the fireplace. She sat by it and pulled up her sleeve, revealing a four inch gash that had clotted, luckily for her. That's the last time she tries to crawl through a broken window. Damn her curiosity. She took off her thin jacket and started to rip it in to strips, as the wound had started to bleed again, and she needed to bind it. Where was she, what was she going to do next? No telling, but she was going to figure it out, no matter what.

Fog... fog and mist and endless obscuring haze. These were the environs one Vel'sharra Nightshroud found herself in, standing in an intersection lost in a swirl of gray, her locale now totally unknown to her and to all who may have once known her. To a lesser girl, this loss of perception of space and time might have elicited a scream or at least a gasp of surprise, but for Val, she breathed a sigh of relief. She was finally free, free of her pursuers, free from the shadowy hand of the Inquisition, free of all the fears and nightmares that had haunted her right up until she had decided she needed to escape. But what now? She had been so focused on finding a way to flee, to break all connections with her past life, that she hadn't considered what she would do after she had made it through. "Oh Val..." she moaned to herself, momentarily setting the large sturdy case she had been holding on the ground as she brought a gloved hand to her hooded head, "impetuous as always. It's a wonder this plan got past its initial stages without you dashing off to fly by the seat of your pants. What will you do now?"

As if to answer her plea, a path began to clear in the mist, revealing a road before her stretching northwards. Struck by the siren's song of curiosity, she began to walk along this path, before quickly backtracking to pick up her case, just barely making out the visage of buildings along the avenue through the thick fog. Oddly enough, though she was by far no trained architect, their styles appeared to be a hodge-podge of designs, some of which looked very familiar to her, while others radiated a otherness that simultaneously interested and concerned her. She drew near to one, a townhouse of some fashion, lightly bringing up a hand to brush against it in a test of existence. The fact that the house stood firm beneath her probing fingers was almost more of a shock than having it fade into vapor like a mirage; this place clearly was real, for a particular value of reality. She stepped back, still somewhat dazed, before turning back to the road to continue her journey awash in a sense of abject wonder.

A few minutes later, she came across a well-lit building situated at the road's end, the path seeming to lead directly up its front stairs and into the welcoming entrance. She glanced around for any form of signage and was able to locate a hanging wooden sign with the words "The Haven" carved and painted into it with a smaller line of text reading "Bar and Inn" below that. Surprisingly for a location in such a deep fog the wood looked pristine, without a single crack or mold spot that Val'sharra might have expected from being exposed to such heavy moisture. A second sign, much simpler in design, listed the day's menu as well as the availability of rooms within. If nothing else, this place looked to be a sturdy respite from the unknown, so without a second thought she passed into the entryway, and pushed through the inner doors.

The sound of a bell ringing drew her eyes upwards to a small cord connected to the door; it was a good thing she wasn't trying to break into this place as she'd already be well on the path of failure. Seeing noone immediately rush to the front desk, Val cautiously made her way into the bar area, the wooden floor resonating with every step of her boots. "Hello?" she called out as she entered, before setting eyes on all of the other patrons that had collected. "Oh... um... hello there...uhm... fellow traveller-ah!" The sight of the girl by the fireplace spurred her into action, her case dropping to the ground as she moved quickly over to kneel beside. "Are you all right? Oh my goodness, this wound..."

The sound of the bell had rang twice this morning, which by all accounts was more than it had done so in ages. From the back corner of the room hidden under a tall darkened-cherrywood counter was a miniture brass bed that looked as though it would perfectly fit an antique porcelean doll. Atop it now stretching with a yawn was a ghostly white Cat, his eyes were a dull shade of ocean blue that would remind anyone of a storm and the markings around his eyes were darkened giving off a distinguished and regal air.

With the furl of his coat relaxing through his spine he hopped atop the counter to assess the situation of the newcomers, as only those new to nowhere ever seemed to grace the Halls of the Haven anymore. With keen eyes he studied the two ladies who had entered his domain, and almost immediately the scent of blood accosted his sense of smell. With the flick of his tail he precisely rang the bell that rested adjacent to him before addressing his guests.

"You should let us tend that for you madam." Said harquin in a sly, however welcoming voice his gaze directed at the woman who had taken her station rather close to the warmth of the fire.

His eyes returned to the newest entrant, but he addressed the entirety of the room.

"Welcome m'ladies to the Haven, rooms are being prepared for you as we speak. The bar is self serve, and don't worry your favorite drinks are sure to be in supply. Dinner is served to order, and there is a breakfast buffet. In a moment Charles will come to collect your things and place them in your rooms unless you'd rather hold onto them. " He explained in a light tone.

Mariah stopped ripping her jacket abruptly, flinching as a girl plopped beside her. When had she come in? She was so involved in methodically ripping her jacket, she hadn't noticed. Her eyes started to redden, her hand touching the ground reflexively, slowly heating the ground around her to deter the intruder. She forced herself to stop, looking at the girl, then turned back to the wound, trying to decide if she would allow help or not.

Mariah whirled when she heard another unexpected voice, this time coming from a cat. Her eyes widened. How many types of creatures existed in this place? Who knows... but she didn't think she trusted this cat. She scooted up even closer to the fire. Her skin got hotter. So hot that if anyone touched her, they would get burnt. She eyed both the girl and cat, but the blood was running down her arm now. Her vision was blurring a bit. She would need to make up her mind on what to do and who to trust, and soon.

"Oh?" Val'sharra turned with a note of surprise as she caught the cat slink its way up to them. "Oh! Ah... that's very kind of you but, wait, I never-" She cut herself off as she realized that the provisions that their impromptu host was offering were literally necessities for her existence, particularly as she was now literally without any support whatsoever. Instead she merely nodded along with what the cat had to say, eventually responding with a bewildered "th-that would be very appreciated, thank you..."

She turned back to the other girl and held position as she saw her flinch and her eyes flare into crimson. She'd seen that look before, and as such it came as little surprise a few minutes later when waves of heat began to radiate from the girl. She nodded to herself in some note of understanding and offered a gloved hand out. "Please, miss... I'm not trying to hurt you. I promise."

Mariah looked at her arm, then at the girl one more time, then slowly nodded, getting a little dizzy. She inched away from the fire and held out her arm. The gash wasn't deep enough to make her bleed out, but it was enough to make her shiver a little and become weakened. The crimson left her eyes, and she trembled due to this.

She would find that house again one day, and when she did, she would burn it down. Mariah hated being weak. Then again, she was the one who thought she saw movement and decided to crawl through that window. She cursed in her mind, taking in the scents and sounds of the inn, but never taking her eyes off of what she assumed was some sort of magical creature. A demon, perhaps? Everything around her seemed to have a kind of mysterious or magical aura around it in this place. Nothing seemed off limits.

She decided to trust her, looking slightly alarmed at the small pool of blood on the ground. Her alarm turned into panic, and she gritted her teeth, a flame erupting in her hand. She shook it out, putting it on the ground to steady herself as her vision swam.

With a small smile, Vel'sharra gently grasped the other girl's arm and rotated it so the wound faced upwards, feeling the intense heat roiling from the girl's skin even through her gloves. It was good that the wound had mostly clotted but the rivulet of crimson that continued to run down her arm indicated that there was still work to be done. Tracing her fingers up, she pressed down hard on the pulse point upstream, slowing the flow of blood to a trickle as she delved under her cloak with the other hand. The slight flaring of her over-garment which accompanied her movement revealed that underneath, she seemed to be wearing something that resembled a highly-advanced catsuit with a tactical harness over it, a veritable arsenal of weapons and equipment strapped to her through a variety of means. She withdrew a trauma dressing, tearing through the plastic and foil wrapped open with a fanged tooth, and pressed it directly onto the gash with a modicum of pressure, carefully wrapping the attached bandage around to provide a snug, but comfortable hold. "All right, that should at least stop the flow... unfortunately I'm not a surgeon, so I apologize that there's not much more that I can do."

She looked over at the nearby tables and pulled a chair out for her. "Here, you should probably get up off the floor, I can't imagine that could be comfortable."

From around the corner appeared a man, his personal appearance could be summed up in two words "ken doll" his cleanly kept hair matched the butler uniform to a T. In his hand he held a vial of unknown origin, his face was cool and calculated devoid of emotion. As he approached Harquin paused from grooming his paw and looked up.

"Ah yes, Charles.. please be sure to clean up any mess that is made." Harquin commanded from his perch.

Moving towards them further the man knelt down beside the two newcomers.

"No need for a surgeon here miss, if you will allow me to assist." His voice rang out clearly but had something almost synthetic behind it. Crouching down slightly he waited for a response before approaching further.

Mariah looked in awe at the range of equipment and weapons the girl had in her vest, jaw dropped. She was pulled out of her surprise as she felt a sting of pain when the demon wrapped her arm. She winced, but was too weak to resist. Her vision cleared a little, slowly, as the blood was prevented from escaping now. She still felt a little off, but it was getting better. She nodded appreciatively at the demon, her stare softening. Mariah began to extend her other hand out to shake her hand, about to say her name, but a new figure approached and Mariah decided even before he touched her that she did not like his blank stare.

When he knelt by her, she scrambled back and surrounded herself in a ring of flames, holding up one hand. Strangely enough, the fire was floating slightly above the ground. She glared at him, reminded of a time when a man that looked somewhat like him chased her down for months. She was not a normal human. In the human world, things like that needed explaining. That meant experimenting. She sent a warning flare of fire towards him, holding her arm. She looked toward the demon girl, seeing if she felt threatened as well. This place was strange, the people were strange. She was not going to trust anyone until they proved they meant no harm.

To Charles it was as though the flames weren't present at all, but the elevation on her blood pressure paired with the emotional reaction caused by his sudden appearance alerted him of her distress. Rather than pressing the issue without explanation his frame froze there for a brief moment inhumanly still, after what seemed like a voluntary pause his posture shifted shoulders relaxing and appeared to take a slow breath.

The features on his face softened as his eyes peered towards the injured girl, and a warm smile grew across his lips.

"If you keep struggling, you will agitate your wound and pass out soon. Then I would apply the salve that I have with me which would help mend you, carefully I would carry you to the room that I have prepared for your arrival and hook you up to a subdermal transfusion to replace the blood loss while you recovered. Or you can allow me to assist you while you are conscious and you can remain down here while all of us get acquainted, the choice is your's. The only difference to me is the amount of blood I will have to clean off the floor." He explained in a warm and welcoming tone, so matter-of-factly that it was rather disarming.

His composure remained warm while he waited for her response.

Val'sharra had just started to reach for the other girl's proffered hand when she watched her suddenly stop and stare at the man who had just approached. As if by instinct, a hand dropped to her thigh to grip the silenced pistol she had ready, but as she quickly glanced out of the corner of her eye, she saw that it was simply the butler who had been mentioned earlier by the unusually talkative feline. "Ah... I take it you are Charles. Um... maybe I could give our companion the vial while you take care of my case? I get the feeling that might work out better... or at least more peacefully?"

She shuffled slightly closer to the butler and added as a quiet aside, "She seems somewhat more afraid of you than me, which... isn't a remark I often am able to say."

Mariah slowly extinguished the flames, trying to soothe herself. She let the fire go down to a slight crackle. Staring at the man named Charles, her eyes were full of rage, but she stood down, flexing her hands. Thinking that the girl was allied with Charles, she backed away from her, pulling the extended chair along with her. She growled to herself and sat in a chair, somewhat calmed by the man's warm composure, but she still seemed very wary. For the first time, she spoke quietly. "I don't need your magic vial... I'm fine."

Standing up as she moved away from them, he placed the vial which contained a shimmering blue liquid in the demons hand he nodded in affirmation to her request to take the lead in the situation.

Offering further explanination he told them what was in the vial.

" It is not magic ma'am, the vial contains a synthetic solution of embryonic stem cells in which are pooled approximately eighteen-billion-one-hundred-fiftyfour-million-thirty-thousand-six-hundred-twelve nanomachines that stimulate cell regeneration and are designed to universally match organic and synthetic biology. It is what one would consider as my blood, and although my blunt honesty offends yo-" He continued on until a shrill hiss was heard from across the room.

"That's enough Charles. You're dismissed." Harquin at this point was on the on the table his keen eyes were focused on the butler and obvious frustration emanating through his tone.

With that Charles returned to his previous posture and exited the room, while a maid replaced him at the corner of the room who silently stood waiting for the oplortunity to clean up the blood on the floor.

Harquins attention returned to the ladies his head bowed slightly in embarrassment.

"My apologies, I beg your forgiveness for Charles' behavior. I can assure you that corrective action will be taken. My name is Harquin, and it is my pleasure to make your acquaintance. Please take your time, and whenever you are ready let me know when you want to see your rooms." He had in an apologetic manner.

Val'sharra took the vial, holding it aloft as she inspected the glittering liquid contained within. "Stem cells and nanomachines... I had heard rumors of this combination becoming a medical treatment some day but... that was still years away." She glanced over at the wounded girl as she isolated herself away in the corner, far from Charles and Val. "If you aren't interested in this treatment, I will be more than happy to hold onto this for the foreseeable future." She stowed away the vial in another unseen pouch, and turned to thank the somewhat robotic attendant for the item when their ad-hoc host began to berate the butler for his actions, sending him away without another word. "Ah... no no," Val said holding up a set of hands, "it's quite all right. Clearly he was intending to help, even if it did come off somewhat stilted. But um, yes, it is nice to meet you Harquin, I am Val'sharra Nightshroud," she introduced herself with, finally lowering her hood to reveal the pair of horns she possesed atop her head. "That's very considerate of you. I, ah... suspect we'll need a few minutes."

She turned back to the other girl, and slowly brought a chair near her vicinity, albeit maintaining a healthy distance from the distrusting girl. "Um... are you all right now? Do you need anything to drink? I was going to make myself a cup of tea if you'd like one as well..."
