Ame had just enough time to watch the goddess reply to Ude before taking her regalia and leaving the trio together on the rooftop. She was about to speak but the man's words reached her ears and the call was unable to be guarded against.
She closed her eyes as first the mark shone brilliantly before enveloping her entire body as she condensed down before flowing over the iridescent light slipping past his grasp around his wrist and down his body coming to rest against his hip as the brooch appeared from the glimmering light until it died away and the only thing left was the extremely detailed buckle layered and gilded with the image of artists tools displayed as the overlay.
In the moment however she did not feel happiness as it felt cheapened by his appearance of reluctance. Had he really not wanted to know anymore? Was he content with never knowing the truth about his past life or what he once was...
She pushed the thoughts past as she rested against the kami's left hip.
From within the vessel she looked out the warm blue green light surrounding her different from other kami she had contracted herself to. "I...thank you...and as i promised...the last time" she answered after some time before sighing and awaiting not only the command to revert her form but also the ceremony that would unbind her to him. Even if she had lost the god she had once known she did not want to lose the memory the name she bore across her chest and the feelings that came with it. "I can go now if you say.... And Inbu...do what i couldn't....protect him" Mentioned
That was not what Azani really wanted, well she wasn't sure she just wanted sachi to understand that her role was serious and she didn't normally do that kind of stuff and that she needed to be able to not get overly attached to clients but not be purely cold. She just didn't know how to get this through it seemed to go from one extreme to the other. It was rather unsettling to have someone like that around you, or to think your words caused that. Still what Sachi said about how she acted like the perfect angel and how willing she had been to throw out the ring was, well it kind of scared Azani. it wasn't a fear of Sachi, but a fear of just how truthful anything she said was. Sachi had been attached to Yuu and now he was just a mere human, how long was it before Sachi though of her as just another god and decided to try to trade up. It was worrying just how honest was Sachi being when she said she would stay for long as she had a name, she might just say what Azani wanted to hear. Azani had honestly kind of hoped for regalia that she could understand they were meant to be partner but it seemed Sachi only got enough to try to act how Azani wanted pretending to do the rest, maybe this hadn't been a good thing.
"Fine whatever just help me kill phantoms and it will be fine" She said her tone again moving towards the cold " this is just until Ai comes back" she sighed before staring to walk out of the ally, at least with Ai she was honest even if she served others azani knew it right now she had doubts Sachi might have ever been loyal to anyone.
"Okay, that's messed up."Kokoro wasn't sure how she felt about this new information. It was creepy that this goddess could just feel her emotons whether or not she wanted her to; yet another thing Hasuna had forced upon her. However what was bothering her the most wasn't learning about this, but that she didn't already know. Kokoro had gone through a lot of trouble to learn about the world she had found herself living in, about the laws of the spirit world, the phantoms, and even the relationship between the Kami and their Shinki. While she certainly had some misinformation, such as the a Shinki literaly being a tool, she knew a lot more than most stray spirits and the fact that she didn't know something this important was disconcerting to her. "...old man's got some explaining to do..."she muttered under her breath.
Reaching over she snagged one of the cupcakes Kimi was hording and took a bite before continuing. "But yeah, seems like a plan. Release it into Heaven. Not like we have anywhere else to take them anymore."
When Kimi was shocked by the heavenly messenger, Kokoro just rolled her eyes at the girl. "You get turned into a dog and watch me turn into a fucking scarf, and a bird becoming paper disturbs you? Seriously, chick?"She shook her head with a chuckle. Then Hasuna anounced they were going to a wedding.
"Exuse me?"Kokoro voice was dripping with venom as she fixed Hasuna with a glare. She was getting sick of the goddess just deciding things for her. First it was claiming her, then forcing her into a scarf form and teleporting, and now this. She had looked past the first two as they were to protect her and Kimi, but going to a social event was completely uneccesary. And it was setting a pattern that Kokoro having none of. "Like hell I'm going."
The cool words caused a slight crack in Sachi’s mask. Something nasty threatened to emerge—an ugly emotion that wouldn’t be liked by anyone. Fortunately, Sachi was able to stuff it down before it could appear on her face. Or blight Azani.
“Ai…that’s the Nora you wanted me to fill in for?” Sachi questioned, walking side by side with Azani as they left the alley. “She must be something special for you to be so attached to her~ Noras aren’t generally very well liked, you know.”
Sachi realized she should probably stop talking. However, she was unable to. Or, rather, she didn’t want to.
“She’s probably serving another god or goddess. That’s how they are, after all. Flickering from one god to the next, making many, many promises…” Sachi giggled. “But you know, it’s impossible to keep all promises, especially when too many have been made. Humans have a hard enough time just keeping one.”
Glancing at Azani, Sachi said brightly. “Ah, but if she does come back, that would mean she really, really likes you~” Sachi paused thoughtfully, then shrugged. “Or it could mean it was more convenient to so. Must be nice for a regalia to have so many options.”
Dusting her skirt from the filth of the dark alley, Sachi looked around her at the streets. It was a mess from the storm. Puddles of water. Knocked over trees. The gods that had arrived to clear the phantoms were already gone…likely returned to Heaven. She directed her gaze to Yuu’s house, where she had stayed for 40 years, before returning her eyes to Azani—her gaze expectant.
Being named by a god meant the god would provide for her. It was their responsibility to do so…even if it was only a temporary contract. If she was lucky, the goddess would give her a bit of time before releasing her…at least until she could find another god. Assuming Ai returned of course. If Sachi had it her way, Ai wouldn't return at all.
“Killing phantoms, I can do~ But all work and no play make for wrinkles you know. And you have such pretty skin, Azani...it’d be quite a waste~” Humming some more, Sachi skipped around the puddles as if playing hop-scotch. Her eyes gleamed. “Besides, shouldn’t we be preparing for a party up in Heaven?”
Azani had said she wanted to see what Heaven was like. Did that mean she’d never been to Heaven? Come to think of it, Sachi had never heard of Death Gods while she’d lived in Heaven. Jizo had never even spoken of them—which was why Sachi didn’t know what to expect when it came to Azani. Death Gods in general, really. Where did they live? What did they do? Azani seemed to like her Nora. Did that mean that Sachi ought be more like a Nora? More information was necessary for her to craft her new mask. Her new self.
Hasuna Kyoto, Hasuna's Shrine
Hasuna was shocked at the vitriol aimed at her by Kokoro. She stung her! She actually stung her! Right after explaining that if she let her emotions get out of hand she would sting her. She was angry but thinking better of it, she composed herself, calmly running water over the blight to ease the pain. Then, Hasuna began to gently chastise her, Koko, I am sorry if I have upset you. I shouldn't force this on you. If you decide not to go I won't make you. Boujouza started to object but Hasuna glared at him. I know that this is new to you, that you feel powerless. You never asked for this, it was forced upon you and above all, you certainly want no servitude, nor should I treat you as such. As for our link, I remind you that I can read your emotions only if they get out of hand and that I am not a mind reader, only that I've been around a long time. As she finished speaking, she turned off the water. But I would remind you that everything you do, affects the people around you, especially me. Quietly she finished the ramen, smiled, and said Eat up!
Out of all the objects Ude thought she might turn into, a buckle turned out to be the most surprising. The idea of wearing a human on his hip weirded him out. It was one thing to be a book, or a sword like Yuuken, but clothing and jewelry were less personal. It made him think of her as more of an object than a person. And that just felt wrong.
"Revert, Hagaka," Ude said quickly, only registering how despaired she sounded after she turned back. "No," he looked at her. "That's not my decision to make. I won't keep you here if you want to go, but I won't force you to stay if you don't want to either. And unless you want me to, I won't release you," his regalia or not, she wasn't his to control.
Ude moved past her and sat on the edge of the rooftop, staring up at the sky. "I know I made you less happy when I didn't call you right away, but it wasn't because of you," he paused, tracing the shape of a little girl holding a handful of wildflowers out of a group of clouds. "I never wanted any regalia," he didn't like the idea of owning people, but how would he begin explaining that to a nora? How many gods owned her?
"Having Inbu was more than enough, but I didn't think of you as my regalia until I called you. If that makes sense," he said with a sigh. "But if you stay, just know that I can't be the god you want me to be."
"Hey," Inbu spoke up, waving the scroll at Hagaka. "Think you make sense of this for me? It's some kind of invitation... I think, but it's talking about stuff I've never heard of."
Hagaka returned to her human form at the god issued the command in a flash of light putting a strand of hair behind her ears with her fingertips. She stood fighting the urge to smile as he explained that he would neither tell her to leave or take the name he had once given to her.
Yet what followed in his words was not something she expected from him...was he upset?
Udeya passed her and sat against the rooftop his gaze towards the clouds above them as he continued.
His admission of not wanting any regalia did sting but she quickly let it aside doing her best to understand that this was no longer her Ude but a different man entirely.
A man who had experienced a different life and made different memories.
Hagaka wanted to interject when he had breathed that he had probably made her less happy, but she bit her lip as he commented on Inbu and how he was enough for the kami.
The young man at the rooftops edge finished his words lingering in the air like a morning fog that held its mirage like effects in a dew covered clearing.
"If you stay, I can't be the god you want me to be"
Hagaka was silent except for the slight breath that escaped her as she stepped across the loose gravel that covered the concrete black top closing the distance between herself and where he sat.
The nora squatted down behind him bringing her arms over his shoulders her hands limp and dangling out in front of his chest. Her forehead finding the space in between his shoulder blades.
"I am....will be fine, I know Ude... you could never be the god i want you to be... That man is gone now..but its alright, So don't worry"
She expressed her words barely above a whisper so that only he could hear them before she stood bringing her arms back to her sides but not before letting her fingertips lightly brush against his shoulder.
She smiled even as a tear fell down her cheek and fell with gravity absorbing into the turf as it hit the ground.
"No matter what....i promised...If you ever find yourself in need of me...all you have to do...is call my name...i will be there...if that is what you want"
her words filled with sincerity before Inbu spoke up causing the red that was forming against the Nora's cheeks to flush away as she moved to him retrieving the scroll.
She raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Your right. It is an invitation?, to a wedding of two kami?"
The girl stretched out the scroll further as she read the rest. The last marriage between gods had been so long ago she would have forgotten it in light of recent events.
"Inbu...looks like you two are going to need some better clothes"
She replied with a smile to the younger regalia partly as a continued apology and to hide her enthusiasm about wanting to get the chance to dance in a dress once again.
Azani couldn't tell if Sachi was jealous at first but her talking about jumping from god to god made it rather clear she was jealous indeed. It was to be expected she had been talking about Ai as one might an old lover, but it was true Azani had meant for this be temporary such was the contract she struck thus was her intention. Azani did not plan on making Sachi stay just like she had not made ai stay and had not called her back, as in some ways she knew ai was better off with another god someone who could actually uphold their end of the bargain, Azani had nothing and she hatted it. The wedding was nothing the death gods had a certain style an unspoken agreement in fashion that would mark them out and uphold a distinction from other gods, they wore all black they dressed like they were at a funeral no matter the occasion.
"You have served other gods, no doubt you compare me to them, it is only right i compare you to Ai and our contract was one meant to be temporary" Azani said walking out into the streets and looking up things were getting better "Besides it is a good thing she has options at least then she has someone worthy of working with her doing so, and one day you will do the same" She continued knowing one day Sachi would leave her for a god who could actually care for her, it was only a matter of time.
As they walked Azani thought about where to go they would have to sleep at a shrine, where she normally crashed, tonight as she would have to buy Sachi a dress for the wedding and those cost money. Such thoughts reinforced the idea Azani always had till today that she should not have a regalia she could not even buy one a dress so why should she have one. Well she had a regalia that was not a nora thus was stuck with her until another found her.
"As for the wedding, death gods have a dress code we wear black clothing, like that expected at a funeral." She explained "We will keep to ourselves and leave as soon as we can, we do not have shines nor followings we could vanish if we do not work, at least i hope we only vanish" She said as they continued.
They said that faith can move mountains. I don't know about that. But something had caused the trees to sway, some to fall. Something that broke debris into dust. I had glimpsed it. The unexplainable. The twister had come on suddenly, with the barest of warnings. And Tora had been watching something beyond the window, even if she denied it and smiled in her usual way. It was the smile that hid truths behind veils. A smile that said 'everything's ok' even if she was chasing back tears.
He had only laughed that sharp laugh because he hadn't known what else to do. The boy was a little bit shaken up, although he'd slept through the whole thing. He had gone to sleep with dark clouds convalescing outside the window and woken up with the street filled with debris. It wasn't as if he'd never been through a twister before, only they usually didn't cause this much damage over such a large area.
It was the same mirthless laugh that ended in a sob when he saw how the old cypress tree was now laying in the middle of his home. Broken, a wreckage. He'd rushed in before the fire department had come with their sirens and wailing lights. Even though the girl shouted at him not to, that it was too dangerous. The plaster was falling from the ceiling in little cascades of white that dusted his hair. One of his two cats, Iruma, with her blue-gray fur and odd-colored eyes had shot out from a dark crevice and into one of the bushes that was still firmly rooted in the ground. "O-kaa-san? Otou-san?" It was a question that had no answer.
Hours later, his eyes were red but dry. He had cried all his tears up. His parents were both in the hospital in intensive care. Neither of their prognoses seemed cheery. Both were hooked into machines which helped them breathe, monitored their heart rate along with other numbers that were meaningless to him, clear veins linking them to bags of fluid on stilts. For a quarter of a second that was also as an eternity, it seemed like it was his lungs that struggled to inflate, his heart that labored to beat. He couldn't bear to watch them like this; he had to stay with them and keep watch.
It was Tora who brought him his dinner, home-cooked from her mother's kitchen. And then it was Tora who sat with him silently. And finally it was Tora who told their teachers that he wouldn't be in school for several days. She watched the boy who had once been mischievous and even a bit cocky walk the hospital halls like a phantom, that spark in his eyes dulled to nothing. After weeks of the same, she decided that she would let this continue no longer.
She would show him the truth. The truth that she had always been afraid to speak aloud.
Even though Ude barely knew Hagaka he accepted the hug, closing his eyes as she leaned against him. He always liked being hugged. It made him feel more human, even after he realized he wasn't. He listened when she told him her promise again, but he didn't respond to it. He wouldn't promise her that he would when he wasn't sure if he could keep it.
"A wedding?" Inbu asked behind him, making a face at Hagaka. "Why would two gods need to get married? I thought that was just a thing humans did," he stood up and looked over her shoulder to see the scroll, looking confused. "And what's wrong with what I have on now?" he looked down over his outfit, brushing himself off.
"No," Ude said, looking out over the city. "I won't go. The gods can have their marriage, or do anything else they want, but they don't need me to be there. I'd rather stay here."
"A wolf would have been a nicer thing to say." Kimi mumbled, sticking her tongue out at her after hearing her comment. She raised a brow at the sudden change in Kokoro, putting the small spirit down unto the counter as she listened to Hasuna. Well, she knew that her friend was very spiteful towards gods and the idea behind regalias. She also was not sure how she became one in the first place. Kimi wasn't sure how to ask now and decided that it's a bad time to do it. She was in no place to say anything since she herself was new to this god-regalia relationship too and bit her tongue from saying anything unnecessary and the air felt tense.
Starting to feed small bite sized pieces of cupcake to the small spirit, she soon heard Hasuna finish her order of ramen. Her face lit up with excitement and her stomach growled on queue again. She sat herself down in front of a steamy bowl of pork broth soup, with juicy slices of pork and a whole egg on the bowl. The generous portion of ramen noodles sitting below the garnish. "Itadakimasu!" She slapped her hands together before grabbing a pair of chopsticks and slurping down on the hot dish. "Sho gh-ood!"
Places that were meant to preserve life, yet, more often than not, served as the homes for the dead in their final resting hours. Sachi had more or less been wandering the white halls of the depressing place while Azani worked. It was Azani’s job to take a life. Her job was to keep a lookout for phantoms—to be there should Azani need her.
Truthfully, there were a lot of phantoms in hospital settings—crawling along individual rooms, hanging on the shoulders of the depressed. Phantoms were everywhere. However, they weren’t necessarily dangerous unless provoked. Or hungry.
So while she stood outside the door, keeping an eye out for potential threats, she also had the time to think on everything Azani said. It was strange. Did Azani think herself unworthy? Well…not having a shrine was pretty bad…but Sachi didn’t know many death gods that had shrines either—least of all if they were as evil as Azani claimed. Forget the dress. How did she plan on getting up to Heaven if she didn’t have a shrine?
“Hospitals are pretty sad, don’t you think?”
Sachi turned to see a girl roughly her age sitting outside of the room next to Azani’s. She appeared to be drawing borderlines, preventing any phantoms from getting close to the room. Obviously a regalia like her. Sachi watched her actions curiously. “For humans, certainly~” Humans feared death. They grieved it. For spirits like her, death no longer existed. There was nothing to feel sad about. Naturally, Azani wouldn’t feel sad either. “But I’m not sad.” Sachi paused. Then, after a minute of silence, she let her curiosity get the better of her. “Are you protecting whoever’s inside?”
“No, I’m just practicing.” The brown-haired girl answered. “The patients inside are victims of last night’s storm. Their son’s grief draws in more phantoms, which makes it an ideal place to practice.” The brown haired girl looked at her and Sachi could see there was sadness in them—not a profound grief for strangers. Simply empathy. The feelings of compassion from one sentient being to the next. Given how easily her feelings showed on her face in front of a stranger, Sachi was certain the girl before her was the type to carelessly sting her god. “What about you? Why are you here?”
“I serve a Death God,”
“Oh. That’s cool.” The girl stood up and Sachi could see she wore a backpack to her back. “I work for a Travel God who likes to wander the near shore, so I see these things from time to time. A Death God is near, then?”
“…Aren't you afraid?”
“Of Death?” The girl rolled her eyes. “All gods are scary when they are angered. Death gods are nothing special. Ever seen a War God in the midst of a bloody battlefield? They’re super intense. Even Lord Nagi keeps out of their way. Unless your death god looks like a fanged monster of some sort, I don’t think I’d be scared.”
“No," Sachi replied quickly. "She's very pretty." Feeling bored, since none of the phantoms were attacking, and Azani's only use for her was killing phantoms, Sachi spoke again. "You've been to a battlefield?"
“Yep. We received a wish from a traveling merchant group looking to cross a warring continent. That one took a couple month or so. Good thing Lord Nagi’s good at avoiding danger. He points out all the safest routes…sometimes…” The girl sighed. “As much as Kaname annoys me, I’m actually grateful he agreed to join us. My god isn’t the easiest god to protect when he gets like that...”
Sachi didn’t ask, but the curiosity in her eyes was enough to convey the message. Either that, or the brown haired girl just liked to talk to people.
“He doesn’t know how to say no when people ask him for help,” the girl explained. “Like last night. A regalia he doesn’t know comes up to him saying that Heaven needs assistance to quell phantoms and he just heads out into the storm. No weapons. No preparation. I don’t even remember the last time he’s fought a phantom. If the Heavenly brigade hadn't shown up, I'm not sure we would've made it through the night.”
“He sounds very nice.” Sachi didn't really have any stories to share about her god since they'd only just met.
“I don’t think that’s it…,” The girl muttered. However, Sachi’s words seemed to console the girl. Or, perhaps, the girl simply wanted to vent whatever dissatisfied her without her god present. “Whichever the case, I should probably head back to him. Time management isn’t one of his strongest points.” The girl glanced back. “It was nice talking to you…”
“Sachi~”
“Sachi,” the girl echoed, holding out her hand. Sachi took it reluctantly. She’d seen Yuu perform the ritual of greeting, but she’d never done it herself. In fact, it had been young Yuu that taught it to her—not that he remembered. “I’m Hiname.”
The smile given to her was wide and honest, Sachi found herself unconsciously returning the expression. She didn’t know how to explain it, but Hiname was very…human. She reminded Sachi of the one she used to love.
“I hope we see each other again.”
Sachi waved as Hiname left the hospital. Humming to herself, she waited for Azani to finish her work. Or call her name. Whichever worked.
Nagi was woken, not by any noise, but a throbbing feeling in his chest. Grief. It was Hiname’s. Not a terribly painful one, but a tugging of the heartstrings…as if she was feeling sad for another.
Sitting up, Nagi glanced out the window where his regalia had left. He wondered what she had encountered to put her through such emotions. However, he knew better than to ask. Letting her know that he could feel her emotions, even given the distance, would only cause her to be ashamed. To lock away the feelings he’d grown to love in humans.
Truthfully, he’d grown used to it.
Hiname’s irritation. Kaname’s annoyance. It reminded him of the good old days before he fought with Ryuujin. It made him a little happy—even if he would’ve preferred the two get along.
Nagi knew Hiname’s past. Therefore, he knew the real reason Hiname was irritated by Kaname, even if Hiname herself wasn’t aware of it. The marks and scars from the past life carried on in the soul. It was the reason he made sure to throw away the pocket knives he carried in his rucksack while Kaname had been sleeping. When Hiname questioned him, he’d simply told her she didn’t need to know.
Giving his regalias weapons against each other this early was hardly a good idea—especially since his regalias didn’t seem to like each other yet. Perhaps with time, he would trust them enough to share each other’s secrets. It was a risk to do so. One with grave consequences should it fall through. A risk he hadn’t even been willing to take with his previous regalia. However, it could also become a safety net in the event that the worst happened and he wasn’t around to stop it.
Triggers came in all shapes and sizes.
And, just as human spirits could judge and purify each other’s sins, Nagi believed it was a human’s spirit that could save each other’s souls from becoming a phantom. Probably. It wasn’t as if Nagi had ever tested that theory. He hoped he never got the chance to.
Looking at Kaname’s sleeping form, then the clock, Nagi shrugged, deciding to let the boy sleep in a little longer. They weren’t really in a hurry. Besides, teleporting took less than a second. While it wasn’t his favorite method of travel (Nagi liked walking), a god’s abilities were convenient at times.
Changing back into his normal clothes, Nagi readied himself for the day—or rather, an afternoon meeting with a goddess. Fuujin had already informed him of many things. However, perhaps Hasuna could give him some new insight on the on-goings of Heaven. At the very least, ideas for wedding gifts would be nice. Nagi barely knew what humans wanted for wedding gifts, let alone gods for their binding rituals.
He was in the process of tying his hair when Hiname returned.
“My gawd. He's still not up yet?”
Nagi smiled. “You look happier than I thought you’d be, Hiname-chan.”
“I made a friend,” Hiname answered briefly. She directed her gaze to Kaname. “If he’s not up in 5 minutes, I'm getting a wet rag.”
"Is that really necessary, Hiname-chan? Perhaps we should just leave Kaname-kun to rest. He's had a long day yesterday... and he didn't seem too happy meeting with Lady Hasuna the first time around, so I'm not so sure he'll fair any better the second time. I don't want him to have to go when he'll only be bored..."
"If you spoil him too much, he'll end up getting cavities. Then you'll be the one to regret it, Lord Nagi"
"...regalias don't get cavities, Hiname-chan." Nagi should know, since no amount of sugar seemed to bother Hiname-chan's teeth. However, he didn't protest any further either.
Hagaka bit her lip slightly as the younger Inbu asked why two kami would get married as humans did.
She looked to Udeya who was still sitting at the roofs edge and gave an irritated pout as he seemed to preoccupied to even help her answer the question. So it seemed it would take much more time to thaw the relationship between them if she even could.
She smiled as her attentions fell onto Inbu "Well it can be for many reasons....some do it for more renown, others for protection, some for...things you dont need to worry about just yet" The female replied with a wink before raising a brow to the young regalias question about his attire and Udeya's following and rather cold sounding comment. "No i dont think those will do...i know exactly what you need for an event like this..your kami and I used to frequent events such as these both in the near shore and heaven. We have to look our best...and Ude" The nora turned already having grabbed Inbu's hand and tugging him toward the rooftops edge.
Her face taking on one of a wife who had been given the wrong response to a request. One of sass and unshakable resolve. "We are going...I will not have you laze around like this doing...whatever it is you do now... Events such as these are crucial for contacts and alliances as well as.." Hagaka began to explain as she closed the distance once more before using her free hand to grab the god by the back of his collar. "It'll be fun!, Inbu hold onto the invitation please. The wind is going to be fierce" She finished before pressing down hard against the rooftop as she jumped her speed bringing the pair with her the roof below her now as they were suspended in mid air as she giggled her hair flailing around as she called back to the two she held in her grasp. "When we get there dont worry...i have impeccable taste!"
"Yeah, sure, I'll keep it safe," Inbu looked amused as Hagaka manhandled Ude, at least until she jumped and he was flying through the air. He looked down and suddenly forgot what he and Hagaka were talking about.
Ude glanced at Inbu after they landed, but his friend had already taken his hand back and turned away. Being taken by surprise, Ude didn't see his fear, but he felt it for a few seconds before they were on solid ground again. Inbu had walked away because he didn't want Hagaka to see it either.
"Not interested," Ude said, looking at Hagaka. "I never had any contacts to begin with and I don't care about alliances," he paused. "You can take Inbu with you if you want, but you can't force me to go." he shook his head. "Also, you didn't need to do that. If you asked me to, I would have followed you down here."
Inbu cleared his throat, "About the wedding..." he started once he found his voice. "I get the renown part, but why would gods marry for protection? Can't gods protect each other without having to be married?" he moved closer to her curiously.
It was the third week. Days had flown past in the aftermath of the storm that had wreaked havoc across several districts. Although Tora had yet to see kami nearby, there were certainly quite a number of dark spirits which she saw as indistinct blurs of black dust that seemed to buzz and vibrate with a chaotic energy. One spirit seemed to be keeping her friend safe. A guardian of sorts. For this she was grateful.
It was late in the evening when the sun was shining its last golden rays through the window and giving the room a burnt glow that she decided to tell him. The girl called his name and he shifted slightly but didn't answer. She tried again and this time he turned to face her, one hand resting on the hospital bed of his mother. It wasn't likely that they would be getting well. They had inhaled too much smoke and the burns were too severe. Her heart ached to see meet his eyes. He was losing hope. She knew it. "Come over for the night. You need to rest." After the destruction of his home, Tora's family had been quick to offer the spare guest room if he didn't mind the wailing of two babes. Previously it had only been after much cajoling and reasoning that she had convinced him to stay and rest. But now he just glumly shook his head and followed her to her mother's car.
But instead of driving back home immediately, Tora's mother took them to a shrine up in the mountains. The ornate roofs swooped in curves and giant red torii gates stood stark against the green forest. Upon closer inspection, however, the paint was chipping off the scarlet gates and a few shingles were missing from the roof. "I wanted to show you something," Tora said at his unspoken question. She didn't want to see the haunted shadow beneath his eyes anymore. If this couldn't help him, she wasn't sure what could.
Hagaka sighed seeing that Ude was going to remain acting as he had on the rooftop. She understood where the intial cold act could come from if he had given it. Yet in those moments he acted as he cared about how she felt and now...well he was just being a butt.
Hagaka waved away his comments before replying to them regardless. "At least he would want to go with me and genius only you can use the invitation so you have to go...you cant say no to such a gorgeous face now can you?" She emphasized as she pointed to Inbu who had turned back from whatever he was trying to do behind them and asking her more questions. "I know you would have, this was faster than allowing you to mope for twenty minutes before you would have." She retorted as she rummaged through what was left of her hoodie pocket and then smiled when she found what she had been searching for.
The nora produced from the pocket a small credit card and shook it slightly in her hand with an Aha expression. "Courtesy of the patron of good fortune Kamatsu, although after this purchase....hes gonna want a huge favor" By this time Inbu had drawn closer to her which caused her attention to shift to him. The female had to look up slightly to meet his gaze as she scanned over his features before replying. "Like said earlier, many things a lack of regalia for instance. Not many kami relish the idea of owning them." Her head gestured to Udeya as the trio stood before the store front humans of the near shore moving around them as if they were insignificant just faces in the crowd. "Once married kami can share ownership of regalia, Think of it like this" The woman began as she took the younger mans hand and entered the shop draghing him along as she perused for what he would be suitable in explaining as she did so. It seemed she had been having to teach others a lot more lately between Azani and now Inbu...she kinda liked it.
"One god cannot wield anothers regalia and without their own they are vulnerable, tch no thats not your color... Any way kami two only has two other choices. Find their own and pray a phantom doesnt take them before then or contract with a nora..which is harshly looked down upon in most circles" Hagaka breathed more sorrowfully as she brought herself up. It was true that many kami had used Nora but it was mainly as a last resort or in essence as that of a one night stand.
The young woman shook the depressing thought away before smiling and pulling an outfit out for Inbu to try. "The gods created a third option..marriage and the sharing of regalia and assests otherwise known as?" She finished holding out the clothing for Inbu to go try and awaiting him to finish the statement as she took note of him.
She wondered what Inbu had done or rather why Ude had only wanted him as a regalia... The nora glance back to the god wondering if he had even joined them.
Kokoro glared at the goddess. Somehow the woman had managed to be humble and sympathetic and at the same time lecture her, like a mother confronting an ornery child. Being coddled like that ticked her off enough, but what really got on her nerves was that Hasuna had hit the nail on the head with each point, robbing Kokoro of any real reason to be angry. As Hasuna brought the ramen over she scooted away from the table. "Fuck this."She said, starting to stand up. "I'm going to-"
-go to sleep, was what she had planned on saying followed by her going to wherever they were supposed to sleep, but her stomach seemed to have other ideas, which it announced with a loud rumble. "-sit back down and eat, apparently." Kokoro grumbled, her face turning a light shade of pink as she slowly did just that, cursing her traitorous appetite.
Practically hearing her friend laughing, Kokoro shot Kimi a glare and gave her a preemptive "Shut up."

Hasuna Kyoto, Hasuna's Shrine
Hasuna stifled a laugh when Koko went to storm off and pout but got hungry. It was cute. When you finish your Ramen I have a meeting with another God. And I'd like you to come with me. That is of course if you want to come. It's at a coffee shop so you can grab a cup if you want.
He was almost falling asleep before they left. He was jolted awake when Shizuya picked him up and brought them down to the ground. He was really greatful she did that. He didn't know if he could make that jump in his state. His thoughts went back to the scene on the rooftop. It was sad that a God would die and then forget about their old lives. He guessed that was just the facts of divinity. He gave Shizuya a weak smile. "It's alright. I'm glad you did, I don't think I could have made that jump like you said. " he said. When his feet hit the ground he looked around. They were in the shopping district. The sights and smells of food and other buyables hit his senses. One thing caught his attention the most. The soupy smell of a ramen restaurant. His stomach growled angrily in the reminder that he was starving. He had used up so much energy and his body needed fuel.
He tugged lightly at Shizuya's clothing. He pointed to the shop like a child. "Can we eat there?" he asked. Something caught his attention on the rooftops and he frowned. It was the trio and they were jumping up really high. Oh well, it wasn't his business anymore. Lunaria Silver
Kimi nearly choked, laughing at Kokoro's actions despite her comment. The delicious contents of the bowl disappeared a lot faster and would probably give her indigestion, but she couldn't care less. This meal was her first proper one since she woken to the afterlife. It was amazing how she could still feel hungry in this world. Kimi brought the bowl to her lips, drinking the soup till there was not a drop left. She licked her lips as she set the bowl back down and sighed in content. "Thanks for the food," A drowsy smile on her as she faced Hasuna.
Kimi was rather grateful that the goddess had asked if they wanted to join her instead of making the request an order. She wasn't sure what would come from meeting another god, but it wouldn't hurt. And it was the least she could do after Hasuna cooked her an amazing meal. "Sure, I don't mind." Kimi shrugged and hoped that the meeting wouldn't take too long.
Ude looked out the store window instead of answering, following her and Inbu to the section where the men's clothing were. Hagaka said that only he would be able to use the invitation like it was obvious, something common that every god knew. But Ude hadn't known. It was the first time he felt embarrassed by his lack of knowledge about gods.
It was part of the reason why Inbu was asking her so many questions. His friend hadn't been a regalia for long, but he only knew as much as Ude did about the far shore. He sat while Hagaka picked out outfits for Inbu. "Can't In go in my place to represent me?" he asked, then paused. "It doesn't matter to me what gods do, so why do you want me to go so badly? "
"You can't use Ude as an example for stuff like that," Inbu said. "Besides, what kind of god wouldn't want a weapon to defend themselves if they could find one?" he looked over the outfit she gave him, thinking through everything she told him. "So, if gods are married... they can call each other's regalia without having to name them first?"
Inbu changed quickly and came back out, adjusting his shirt. "I never knew nora were seen that way," he muttered, looking at Hagaka.
The Nora turned, her eyes meeting Udeya's as she did so and Inbu went to remarking that Ude was not a prime example at the subject matter of what she had been speaking of. The regalia then asked further questions trying to grasp an understanding of kami and their affairs.
The female kept her gaze on the kami before her as she answered Inbu's questions saving her statement for him until Inbu had went to change. "Maybe out of context but relevant nonetheless, Ude is ...different from other gods i know and some just cannot or won't resort to violence. Even you Inbu can be utilized to face phantoms if necessary it just depends on the kami.
And yes...that is essentially the idea each Gods regalia become known to the other and they can call upon them...now go change i want to see how it fits" Hagaka explained doing her best to answer all of his questions before he left for the changing room. Her attentions had stayed on Ude the entire time never leaving his sight as Inbu had walked away.
She took a breath before shaking her head. "I am sorry... What i said just now was offensive, and i am still trying to wrap my head around you being.... No Inbu cannot represent you Ude, To do so would be deemed as inconsiderate..." Hagaka breathed calmly not wanting to upset or push him aside as she sat down next to him.
The young woman paused momentarily before continuing. "Do you want me to be honest with you?, Before...it was the quality you most admired about me although now im not sure..., Ude that boy in there is young and lost he needs guidance. That is your responsibility as his kami, as his friend. He should not be asking me these questions. Her words were soft and gentle holding the wealth and experience of one who had lived a long life and she knew that though the words may sound harsh they had to be said. "You say it doesn't matter and that you don't care..then what does that mean for him?, The fact remains whether you like it or not. You are a god and Inbu is your regalia...and Ude if you want that boy to survive you both need to understand how everything works..." She replied as her hand hesitantly found his shoulder in an effort to comfort him. "And even though it is just a wedding and i am just someone you cannot remember...
I want to help you both, That is why i care so much Ude...because i am your regalia too, and i care about you just like Inbu" Hagaka let her hand fall from the mans shoulder as she stood and made some space for the man not wanting to have invaded it for long.
Inbu by this time had returned and was adjusting his shirt as she moved to him he commented about nora.
The female put her hands to his collar assisting him with straightening everything like a mother would for her childs school uniform on their first day. "Yes, we are normally only used as a last resort or for tasks a kami would not want his regalia to be put through. We can also be a risk for the many kami that name us...which is why it is normally taboo to use one. There now you look very handsome" She finished her answer whilst fixing his clothes. Giving him a warm smile before turning to show him off to Ude before pointing at the god who had sitting. "And now its your turn" Hagaka beamed toward the man her features warm and light hearted as if her serious conversation had never happened.
Luckily she would not have to search hard for what Udeya would wear as she had seen him in formal attire many times..and knew exactly what she wanted him to be seen in.
Ude avoided her eyes, staying quiet as Hagaka lectured him. It always came back to that, didn't it? He was a god, and was expected to act like one. "He knows enough," Ude muttered, knowing it was a lie before he fully said it. Deep down, he knew she was right. He just didn't want her to be. He closed his eyes as Inbu came back out and she moved away.
Inbu tried to assist her in smoothing down creases and straightening edges, but his hands got in the way more often than he helped. Eventually he gave up and let Hagaka handle everything. "You'd be the first person to think that," Inbu grumbled, shooting a dirty look Ude's way. Though he paused for a second when he saw that the god wasn't paying attention. He laced his hands behind his head. "Ude and even the god we met earlier think I'm useless. I'm just a book," he shrugged.
He glanced over himself as Hagaka complimented him. "Thanks," he said, his face red. He faced one of the mirrors. "And I'm sorry, you know, about the whole nora thing. If they're treated that bad, why would you choose to become one?"
Ude opened his eyes, catching Inbu's gaze in the mirror as Hagaka said it was his turn. He sighed, but stood. "Never mind what I said before. What did you have in mind for me?"
Hasuna Kyoto, Coffee Shop
When Koko finished her Ramen they all went to the coffee shop, arriving there at precisely 2:45 PM at which point Hasuna addressed her regalia, saying Why don't you all get something to eat.
