Emory was surprised at her reaction to say the least, the man's expression breaking and showing his shock for her to respond to him so formally. Had he actually enraged with his teasing? Worry had settled within him for a few seconds, but that vanished to relief as he saw the smile that crossed her lips. Thank goodness, he didn't cross a line with her. At her words, the man sighed as he got up from his position on the dock, brushing himself off before following after her, a wicked grin crossing his face in response to her, "Is that a challenge, Rose? I fear this isn't something you can easily win. And here I was thinking I was being the perfect gentleman." He followed after her as she had quickened her pace to a light jog, quickening his own pace until he caught up with her. Ah, when had he felt so carefree in his life? It was... odd to feel such a way, in such a playful mood. His golden eyes gentled as he watched her, yes he certainly could enjoy every day with her like this.
Falling silent, he enjoyed the cool night air as he trotted behind her, following her until the mansion had came into view. However, in the darkness, he could see a shape lingering near the side of the pathway, his eyes narrowing and expression hardening again. One of his henchman had returned, a sentry he used to track the ins-and-outs of the Black Market for either suspicious marks or potential targets. The sweet moment he had with Rose was quickly coming to an end, and it was time to force back his carefree feelings for his work demanded his attention now, and judging from the posture of the cloaked individual it was urgent. They normally never appeared directly at the mansion, usually sending letters. His pace quickened so that he was at Rose's side, murmuring to her as his tone seemed as cold as it usually would be, "Go ahead without me, there's something I need to attend to first." He paused, though looking to Rose with a faint smile upon his face, murmuring softly to her, "I'll make up for my rudeness later." The playful look in his eyes promised that much as he turned from her and approached the cloaked man, though the individual in question had bowed at his approach, Emory had lowered his voice to him a few quiet words which caused the mysterious individual to whisper in return, clearly the news wasn't too pleasant due to Emory's golden eyes becoming more frigid as he released a long heavy, seemingly annoyed sigh. Ah, why wasn't he surprised anymore? He muttered a few words to the cloaked man and the two walked off a few paces away from the mansion, the darkening skies concealing what path they were taking.
"Welcome back, Lady Barclay." Her tone was warm, although brimming with her previous excitement, only allowing her voice to finally give way to the excitement threatening to burst through, "So, how was it? I trust the experience was good for you both, was it not?" With the way the woman's eyes were shining, she was very much eager to hear all the details of what had happened, desiring nothing more to feel more joy at the thought that Emory had finally found someone for himself. She seemed like an excited little girl though at this moment, a more youthful excitement brimming from the usually quiet maid.

...
Viola was waiting at the mansion's front door, though the woman kept repeatedly checking outside for the two, eventually she had caught sight of Emory and Rose. Joy swelled in her heart at the sight, though confusion quickly followed as she spotted the sentry near the side of the road. Her heart dropped with disappointment seeing Emory stop, even if she was pleased at the way he was looking at Rose now, she couldn't help but be disappointed and worried with the expression that crossed his face upon seeing the sentry. Was everything alright? She knew well enough Emory was deeply tied with the Black Market, so the fact that he had been called away for whatever reason was not good. A frown had crossed her face as she watched the man walk off into the dark, though the woman quickly tried to change her expression to be more cheerful as she turned to look at Rose, a soft smile crossing her face."Welcome back, Lady Barclay."
