RURIKO IKEDA
SCENE:
Dragons Arc 1: Scene 4 [Reckoning]
LOCATION:
East District ---> Bridge connecting to Central
PARTICIPANTS:
Ruri, Jesper, Kanna ,Shen, Phoenix Trio
RECKONING

There was hardly any communication needed between Kanna and Ruriko, the two had trained long enough together to know each other’s cues. The missed attack on Kanna’s part was something that wouldn’t happen again, she was sure of it. Once they passed through the portal, Ruriko couldn’t help but grin wildly as she felt the weight of her entire body lessen. She took a split second to look out towards central, the city lights were particularly fascinating from this high up. However, she reminded herself that she had a white-haired, fuckhead to deal with first as her attention was pulled to the bridge they were gliding over.

Scanning the bridge, she noticed three redheads first. She couldn’t recognize the two men but she did recognize the woman among them. What the fuck were the Phoenixes doing here? “Tch,” her eyebrows furrowed in annoyance but before she could mention anything to Kanna, the two had gently touched down on the bridge and waited for an incoming vehicle to halt to a stop.

Ruriko watched with surprise as the ground cracked slightly underneath Kanna’s weight, indicating that she had planned on forcefully stopping the vehicle itself. She wasn’t sure how well that would end for both parties, especially the driver. Luckily, whoever was behind the wheel wasn’t fucking stupid as the vehicle came to a screeching halt right in front of the two of them. From where she stood, her suspicions of the two civilians they encountered earlier were correct. Her eyebrows furrowed deeper as she watched the woman step out of the car with a blade at the ready. Instinctively, her hand moved to the hilt of her own blade, ready to challenge her. However, just before she could tell Kanna that she could handle this one, her phone started to chime a specific tune.

It was one of those default ringtones, only it was too funky to be elevator music yet too cringey to be played as an actual song. She knew that ringtone well, it was only assigned to one person after all. Ruriko slipped a hand in her pocket to pull her phone out, her eyes remaining on the target in front of them.

"...Hello?"

"...Hi Shen."

"Is that so? I'm a little busy here…"

"Uh, we're on the bridge, the one connecting to central."

"Huh? Oh, sure."

Slipping her phone back into her pocket, she gave Kanna a quick glance before waving her hand towards the sky. Immediately, another portal appeared high up in the air above them, a second link connecting from here to the portal she kept at headquarters.

From out of the portal Shen emerged, hands clasped together behind the small of his back, gazing down at the carnage below. His face inscrutable, Shen’s eyes found a trio of Phoenixes dancing around the edges of a billowing cloud of smoke.

Their reckoning had arrived.

HERE IS YOUR RECKONING
Another beautiful day given way to a beautiful evening in the pristine East!

Shen considered the natural beauty of his district through half-lidded eyes as the sun quickly crept away over the horizon. The fields in the East were always so quiet, but especially now. The days' work had been concluced, and the moon rose slowly.

The Dragon King munched idly on a long stalk of grass, hands clasped gently behind his head as he stared up at the clouds that slowly moseyed their away across the sky overhead, patiently waiting for the first of the stars to twinkle into view. He knew this sky. It was the same sky as the one he'd looked up at as a child! These were the same fields, the same rolling hills. It was a comforting thought in a world that was often so transient. At least here it was, and would ever be...

Perfectly peaceful...

There was not a thing in the world that could dampen his spirits, now!

... Not even the phone, which had been uncharacteristically quiet all these long hours...

On a whim, Shen glanced over at it, tapping a finger against the blackened screen to display messages and missed calls enough to sink his heart, the tiny Do Not Disturb symbol peaking out at him from atop the notifications bar...

It seemed he'd spoken too soon...

A very short while later, Shen appeared in the Control Room, gazing up at the myriad security camera feeds that oversaw the district with a look of consternation, as the wind left behind in his wake struggled to keep pace with him.

Thanks to his phone he'd learned of the disturbance, err... Disturbances... But now that he was here, he was at a loss for where next to turn. Yo had even texted him!.. But in his hurry he'd forgotten to draft a response. So deep in thought was he now, wrestling with which next course of action to take, that he barely noticed Jesper sitting there half-catatonic in his electronical throne.

“Jesper!” Shen shouted excitably down at him. “Where's all the action?!”

As a groggy Jesper pointed him toward the South-East Bridge, Shen was already leaving him, shouting a, “Thank you!!” over his shoulder as he went.

At last, he'd arrived... At the portal that Ruri kept open in the Dragon's HQ, for—Shen imagined, at least—this very purpose. Flipping out his phone, having long since forgiven it for not informing him of the chaos sooner, Shen dialed the number and placed the item to his ear. It rang—barely once—before a familiar voiced clicked into focus on the other side.

""...Hello?"

“Hi Ru Ri!”

"...Hi Shen."

“I'm by your HQ portal!”

"Is that so? I'm a little busy here…"

“Where are you guys?”

"Uh, we're on the bridge, the one connecting to central."

“Could you portal me in?”

"Huh? Oh, sure."

“Great! See ya soon!” Shen clicked End Call and waited as the Portal before him whirred to life. Without a second's hesitation, Shen stepped through it, and emerged into the windy sky overlooking the South East's Bridge. He stayed there, suspended in mid-air, back straight, hands clasped tightly behind the small of his back as he gazed down at the carnage below. Ruined cars, an overturned truck, civilians in danger. The very air around him seemed to shimmer beneath the cold moonlight.

Those responsible for this would face judgment.

Shen's eyes found the Phoenixes first—he recognized their Queen from even this distance—as two of his metallic wrappings extricated themselves from around his forearms, folding themselves into perfect, lustrous spheres. They began to revolve around him like planets around a star, slowly picking up speed.

Hide folded his arms across his chest as he watched Alex make a big show out of himself. The scene irked him even further, but he wasn't' about to step in and ruin the investigation. With a huff, he tore his gaze away from them, turning his attention to "Angelo" or whatever- and the crowd that ambushed him. With a glare, his eyes quickly scanned down to where his broken glasses lay. He'd have to get a new pair... ugh what a hassle. It was hardly his fault that he lost- they were unfair! What kind of losers gang up on someone like that... but... now that he thought about it...

His piercing glare quickly snapped over to the pink haired chick who he couldn't be bothered to remember the name of. This girl was the one that ordered them to attack wasn't she? Hide grit his teeth in rage, the fire from before rising fast within him. He let his arms fall down to his sides, nails digging into his palms as they tightened into fists. If she was the one responsible, it was only right for her to pay the price right?...

Hide steadily increased his steps towards pinkie, who was cowardly hiding behind mr "I'm so strong" guy. His voice was the only thing he heard as a boiling heat washed over him. " YOU! YOU WERE THE ONE WHO ORDERED THOSE BASTARDS TO ATTACK ME WEREN'T YOU?! " He gestured an accusing finger over to Angelo and the crowd. He could tell he wasn't acting rationally at this point, but the fact was- he really couldn't give a shit. The only thing he cared about at the moment was redeeming himself.

High Life

Between the people stuffed between rungs and whatever rabid fighters Ron managed to bring to him, Elias’s evening was turning out exactly as he expected since the chaos began—lots of work. Granted, it was work that let him use his potential without feeling guilty in the slightest. Surfing through memory after memory, tampering with their recollections, Elias tilted his head when many of them seemed to suffer the same affliction as Daniel Cox. It was as if a fog blocked their minds, preventing him seeing into certain memories. A fog of…emotions? Euphoria. Lust. Love. Longing. Despair. Love. Love. Love.

Frowning, Elias forced himself through the fog in hopes of piecing together whatever memories he could until finally…finally…an image appeared. He blinked in recognition. Releasing his touch of the woman pinned to the ceiling, violet eyes searched the crowd below until they met the dark-eyes belonging ‘perpetrator’ of the ‘mind-fog’ potential. At the same time, he heard Miss Wonder’s warning and, with one hand still gripped on the side rail, reached in his pockets for a handkerchief to cover his nose with as another shot from Miss Knox caused a spray of water to rain down—all the while keeping his eyes locked on the suspected instigator of the chaos. A single image wasn’t enough to incriminate, but all thoughts of talking to the suspect—possibly digging into their memories—was thrown out the window when the red-suit wearing winked at him, then subsequently snapped the neck of the NP in his grasp before making a break towards the exit.

Sliding down the ladder to where water rained upon his blazer and psychedelic drugs permeated the air, Elias wrapped the piece of cloth around his head so that it covered the lower half of his face while he moved. He had a split second to make his decision—reveal his potential or not—and he made it quickly. Efficiency begot results, after all. Elias didn’t trust people, but he didn’t hate them…and with people whose memories he had already seen, it was easier to relay some form of trust. At the very least, he knew for a fact none of them knew what was going on or had been mind-fogged with some sort of crazed love potion.

Callahan, Ronald, Sophia.

Weaving through the crowd of slacked-jawed individuals on the dancefloor, some of who fell victim to Miss Wonder’s aetherwaves, Elias touched his three fellow rookie Tigers (from closest to farthest) as he passed, relaying to them his memory of the red-suit man—the wink, the subsequent snapping of the NPs neck, etc. No words were exhanged. Whether they figured out the specifics of his potential was up to their own deductive abilities. Whether not they even bothered to chase down the cause of the disturbance was up to their own sense of loyalty (and or annoyance at having their fun disrupted), but Elias wasn’t quite fool enough to chase down someone who easily murdered another with a smile on his own. Well, not exactly fool enough.

Curiosity, and random whimsical decisions that got his heart pumping, had always been his weakness.

"That's the guy that caused all this."

Lifting his hand off Miss Wonder’s back once he finished relaying the memory, Elias straightened his blazer and slipped his hands into his pocket as followed Mr. Wink and Murder out into the long hall, sparing only quick glance at the broken door. Unless security was made anti-potential proof, it seemed locked doors and windows weren’t enough to do the trick. Elias sighed. On the bright side, it was an excuse to escape all the water and aetherwaves in the air. Escape explaining to the king why his party was a mess as well. Tracks of water down the hall made it obvious where the HP had gone even if Elias hadn’t caught sight of the fluttering ends of the red suit as it neared the emergency stairs. Beyond personal curiosity, Elias didn’t have much at stake even if Red Suit weren’t caught. What would he even do if he managed to cut the HP off? Fight? Against someone whose potential he didn't clearly understand? Elias rolled his eyes. He wasn’t nearly loyal enough to risk his life for the Tigers. However, he had to keep an appearance of effort at least if he wanted to gain favor as Elijah Anamnesis. He was also curious and enjoyed a good hunt. Therefore, Elijah kept a steady pace as he trailed after Mr. Wink and Murder Red Suit.

And right on its mark, the knife hit its target with perfect accuracy as it tore the hood away from its owner revealing the victim’s face. Lorrin smiled with a cocky grin at the sight of the girl there was nowhere for her to hide now that her face has been revealed to the public. He would watch as she from her position, quickly pulling out his phone to snap a picture of her face to use later in the small chance she got away. Taking a closer look at her face she did look somewhat familiar, taking a minute to think on it back during his time as an assassin he did a bit of digging on notable people and families from the other districts and this girl looks as if she is from House Vinter an upper-class family from the central district with some members even existing in the east. Turning his attention back to the girl she would immediately throwback the crowd that gathered around her Lorrin even having to catch one of them in the process so that he wouldn’t get knocked over. She would immediately hop back onto the roof where she proceed to give away even more information god this girl is dum. The offer to join the cobalt wolves seems to have fallen on deaf ears to the crowd likely due to a well place commit about them being drug lords from nearby likey Omar due to his talent of being able to change his voice. Pulling out his phone last time he sent a quick message to Omar and Caomei.

“Split up and circle around her I’m going to provoke her into attacking me once her defenses are dropped grab her.”

Stepping forward and out of the crowd to face her. “Sorry but I think your offer has been rejected how about we just wrap this up and you come along quietly do so and I swear that no harm will come to you.” He would hold out his hand in a gesture for her to come down and join him. “Conntueing this at this point would be a waste of time on both our ends and you’ve already given me more than enough to work with should you still choose to run. Or would you rather we take this to your place I’m sure the ballroom of House Vinter would be a great place for us to continue our dance might even grab a few dance partners once where inside after all it’s a great night for the dance of death to occur.” He winks back with a cocky smile.

Alice felt like she was flying. If it weren't for the shattering glass, deafening screams, the roaring gunfire, and being drenched in the same exact fluid that poured out of Titus Latken's throat, it might have been fun. Now, though, she had no idea where her feet took her. She had no idea what was happening, only that it was something bad. The flurry of bodies flushing past her eyes like a flood didn't help, either; the world was spinning, and the tea sitting in her stomach felt like like it was rising up her throat.

Alice dropped to a crawl, huddling underneath a pool table. Every part of her body shook. What was... any of that?! Those can't be fireworks still popping on this floor, are they? Alice peeked her head out. Ezra who slung Titus over his shoulder. Speaking of who... Alice looked down at her clothes, surprised to find that she wasn't dirty—she was certain something spilled on her—and Titus was perfectly fine aside from the utter shock of everything. That was before the two masked men opened fire at the two men, and Alice shunned back in fear

Tried to, at least, before a hand grabbed her out from the table. Alice almost scream at the other force, if not for the four words that came from his mouth: "Oh dear, oh dear..."

"Mr. Hat...?"

"I hope you haven't forgotten me!"
As his body seemingly emerged from nothingness, the gunshots rang out again. "Tally ho!" He ducked down with her into the table, making sure to keep Alice pressed against his body. Janay Fox, better known as 'Mr. Hat' to Alice as her one and only caretaker, had been using his Invisibility Potentiality to watch over the whole scene. The veteran Tiger had a suspicion that something would go off the rails, but never anything on this scale. Alice, on the other hand, finally let go of the tense grip that had been latching onto her heart. She gripped Janay in a hug, almost forcing the air from his stomach.

"Mr. Hat..." she wailed. "What's happening? What are the mask people doing?"

Janay bore a look of pity to the girl. In an environment such as this, it was inevitable for her to get exposed by the cruel nature at some point. Still, seeing it happen, it hurt him a lot more than he would have liked... He forced a smile at the 18-year-old, patting her head. She wasn't in the food to argue back against the hand, this time. "Don't worry about it for now, dear Alice." From his hand, a pair of work earmuffs formed from nothing like a magic trick, momentarily stunning the girl. "Please, put these on." Regardless of whatever she said, Janay put them on her anyway, and it was quiet now.

Janay sat criss-crossed, motioning for Alice to do the same—which she did, wordless. She fiddled her fingers, biting her lip and occasionally trying to peek over only for Janay to bring her gaze back to him. As long as he appeared calm, he knew that she would calm down, too, no matter short-term this solution was. Unless they had Elias over, this was going to be something Alice would live with, and that wasn't particularly ideal for the Tigers. Janay motioned her over, and once she crawled forth, he brought her into a hug.

From the outside, however, it was as though they were never there to begin with. Janay had activated his Potentiality to make the both of them invisible. Flipping his phone open, he gave one simple message for help: "White Tiger Casino, top floor. Armed intruders attempting to kill Titus Latken."

MONEY TALKS
Charmy must’ve been too optimistic. She did figure something was amiss—it was the reason she opened her eyes—but she wasn’t prepared for things to go so poorly. Had it not been for the rookie this whole operation would already be over by now. A complete failure. And what had she done during the whole thing? Absolutely nothing. With a fight igniting her presence was becoming even more obsolete. She wasn’t particularly keen on fighting, but she would have to make do.

“Ready?”

Charmy gave a nod.

“Our ‘mutual friend’ here is all yours. I’m going to introduce myself to one of the others.”

The skill of the foe at hand was of concern—as was the beacon—but Charmy had the utmost faith in Cass’s own. She had no doubt they could reel in the black-haired woman by their lonesome. With Janay swooping in to assist Alice, Charmy’s main concern resided with Ezra. As capable as they seemed, having to both carry and protect their target would be a hindrance in a fight. Especially with two more assailants on his tail… or… just one now?

“Stay on your toes. No sight on frowny.”

Charmy’s eyes locked onto the gunman with the comedy mask. With tragedy off the grid, it would be much safer if she kept her eyes closed, but that would do little to assist anyone other than herself. Right now she hoped to prevent any further lethal shots on Titus. They could afford damage, but he needed to keep breathing.

Her pricey coat dropped to the floor as she bolted into a low-hanging run, shortly followed by each of her heels. Fluidly between generous steps, both hit the ground with enough force to bound into the air. However, before they could be lost behind her, one of Charmy’s hands snapped out, securing one between tense fingers.

Much closer now, she snapped off a portion of the footwear, and tossed aside the rest. Then, her head leaned back until her feet caught up, and transitioned her sprint into a slide. Determined eyes hid behind their eyelids once more as her leg extended forward, weaponized by the momentum. All with the hope to knock the remaining gunman off their feet.

BOLTIUS

Vulken's Little Bro
"BLITZ"

<<< Remember

Through the dead eyes of Nina, the day couldn't have gone any worse. As much as Boltius wanted to tell himself it could have, he chose not to in respect of his fallen comrade.

He couldn't help wondering what if. What if it hadn't been Nina, but someone else?

To think in such a way, he admonished himself. How selfish. This wasn't about him. It was about Nina and all the others. Not just one life was taken, as every Phoenix lives an interlaced structure of two.

For Boltius, he is both a brutal gangster and loving son. He willingly throws himself into danger at every turn on one end, then humbly sits through long minutes of motherly ramblings about his classless dress-code on the other, how it'll never score him a mannered lady, partially in retrospect of his history with women.

He found himself wanting to know more about Nina. What were her hobbies? Her adventures. Her accomplishments.

To know that he'd never hear the stories from her own lips, a fervid rage pounded in his chest, numbing him to reason. He would find her killer, and he would make sure they met her fate tenfold.

The passion and energy growing within him could be seen by the excited rising and falling of his chest with every eager breath as he awaited permission from Lyric. He'd pointed at a nearby member, unknowing of her rank, and declared her his partner in the search, to which she responded desirably. She was willing to join him, and Boltius liked that, but it didn't show. He was too worked up.

The girl introduced herself as Charlie--an expression of pain becoming her as she took a glance at Nina--that which Boltius refused to do again. Instead, he stared at the girl with intensity. He found her name interesting for a woman, but perhaps it suited her masculine wardrobe.

"I'll call ya Temp for now, if that's alright," said Boltius in a more tender tone than what suited his scowl. "Wouldn't wanna disrespect. You can call me whatever you like. Blitz. Bolt." The veteran's eyes narrowed all of the sudden. "Whatever you do, don't refer to me as Draken's Little Bro." He paused, looked away, then cleared his throat and spoke again whilst rubbing the nape of his neck with a calloused hand. "Uh. Please."

He hoped not to leave a bad impression given the already bitter circumstance. And so he studied Charlie's face momentarily to see the impact of his words.

Following that, Lyric approved his course of action. Turning to another Phoenix member, whom Boltius was familiar with, she inquired about Muskrat's team. Zombie pointed northeast. Boltius' gaze followed, but he saw not the aftermath of a once vibrant nightlife district--rather, he saw the future scene of vengeance by his hand nearing ever closer to the present. And his body ached with impulse.

"Blitz, be careful Temperer is still just a rookie," said Lyric, redirecting Boltius' attention to Charlie again.

He nodded affirmatively. "You got it, Boss."

Lyric looked to Charlie then, "Temperer, come back alive and keep the hot head in check."

No comment. Boltius was well-aware of his temper. But by the mention of it, he decided to cool himself off by lowering his temperature. It was done slowly so that no one would notice whether or not they were within his three-foot area of effect, then he nodded again at Lyric when she concluded her directives.

The chase was on.

Boltius jerked his head in Charlie's direction, slapped her on the shoulder, "Let's go, Rookie!" then started through the crowd in a blurred sprint. His eyes shifted between the sky and path before him, blinded by the same fury he'd calmed moments ago.

"I dunno exactly what we're lookin' for!" Boltius didn't think to check behind him for Charlie. His backpack bobbed up and down with every heavy step he slammed into the pavement. "But I'm gonna guess butterflies!? Kinda weird for butterflies to be out this late, don'tcha think? Don't they need sunlight to live, or somethin'?!" he pondered aloud before skidding to an abrupt halt. With a wide-legged stance, he whirled around, looking for Charlie, and asked aggressively with a hint of stress in his voice, "WAIT- WHERE DO BUTTERFLIES LIVE!?"

ROGUE OF THE NIGHT
Adonis regarded Angel with an enigmatic look. He sat back, apparently thinking. All in all, what he got wasn’t a whole lot to work on.

This Swallowtail was new. Of course, she was. Perhaps for the sole purpose of entrapping a dragon for… what? Information or motivation for betrayal? As for her friendliness with this Black Currant girl—Adonis recalled the meek woman he had met in the lobby. She seemed the type to give in easily under pressure. Was she also coerced, blackmailed, threatened, or coaxed? Didn’t seem all that unlikely, but then again, the fact remained that Black Currant was still there. If she’d been an accomplice, then she’d have fled the place by now. And if by chance she did possess any information, the fact that she was still alive and well proved whatever she had to not be very useful. One that has the gall to murder a Dragon should not mind shutting up a mere brothel worker for safe measure. For now, she could safely rule out this Black Currant, who, apparently, had also been a worker here for a good while, and an NP most likely.

That brought him to the next point. He figured the killer could only be an HP. An able Dragon obviously has no business being killed through conventional methods. Did she bring in an HP accomplice, or was she herself one?

Then there was also the issue of the stray gunshot. Part of him wanted to wrap this up quickly and head for whatever merriment people were having outside. There was the option to ask either Jesper or Kasumi to search for this purple-ish swallowtail. But brushing aside the fact of her distaste for the Jesper, Reveler had no desire to abandon her mark to someone else. It was hers, certainly. She was assigned the mission. She wanted to capture it, beat it up. But it didn’t seem very likely she would be able to track Swallowtail down within the day. A few days work at the least.

Adonis bit his lower lip.

“I paid the money, didn’t I?” he said, almost absent-mindedly. “You said she lived here? Show me to her room, there might be something there.” Then for a while, he was unfocused again as he considered deeply the situation and possibilities. “You don’t seem to like this girl a whole lot. Just so you know, Angel, I could give her hell if it meant to make you happy. But I need to know where she is now. Did she ever mention her birthplace, or a customer she favored perhaps?” Having said that, he rose from the couch, ready to follow Angel to Swallowtail’s room, if there was one.

While it was somewhat of a comfort to know that his relationship with Silver wouldn't change if the man knew he was one of the Azure Dragons, that feeling wasn't nearly as important as the consequences of the information getting out. It seemed like the manager still had his suspicions, but before the Ace could continue the conversation, he heard the distant sound of a gunshot. It sounded like it came from the direction of HQ, but he hoped he was wrong.

The gunfire didn't seem to bother Silver very much, as he was quick to leave the room and focus on the situation in the lobby. Aside from informing Kairong and Reveler about the man's intentions, there wasn't much he could do about the situation. However, he could still his assist fellow Dragon in the office. Using his Potential on the nearby window, he camouflaged Meirin as she made her way outside, preventing Black from noticing.

While the Sleeping Giant was busy investigating, Isaiah turned his attention to Black. According to Meirin, the pink-haired worker was the one who discovered Silence's body. They likely had valuable information, but he had to consider their emotional state when asking questions. Black was already distressed, and the situation outside probably wasn't making them feel any better. For now, he wanted to help put them at ease.

Standing up, Isaiah reached into his coat pocket and withdrew a small pack of tissues. They were meant for his glasses, but they'd work well enough for drying tears. "Feel free to take one, if you'd like." Wearing a small smile, he spoke with a gentle tone as he offered them the open pack. Black was a quiet person, and he always tried to be mindful of that. "It's good to see you again. Although, I wish it were under better circumstances. How are you feeling now?"

While speaking with Black, he felt his phone vibrate. Once again, he activated his Potential to disguise his actions as he read Meirin's message. Just as he feared, it seemed their headquarters was under fire. It was a serious situation, and he was worried about the other Dragons, but he couldn't afford to leave in the middle of the investigation. Every mission was important, including this one. However, nobody could have predicted an attack like this when tasks were being assigned.

As far as he knew, Yo was currently the only one at HQ with a Potential suited for combat. He had faith in his Queen and knew how strong she was, but the odds would be against her if multiple enemy HPs were participating in the attack. If the Cobalt Wolves were behind this incident as well, then the chances of that happening were high.

"Return to headquarters and check on the situation, or see if you can figure out where the shots are coming from. The rest of us will remain here to continue the investigation. You should still be within my Potential's range, so use that to your advantage and see if you can spot the enemy without being noticed. If you need me to alter or drop the illusion, let me know right away. If all is well at HQ by time you arrive, return here. Please be careful." The Dragons had suffered enough damage today, and he didn't want to lose a friend on top of it all. QuirkyAngel QuirkyAngel

If Meirin was leaving, it would be best to inform those who were at HQ. With that in mind, he sent another message. "We could hear the gunshots from Paradise Forever. Sleeping Giant is leaving to provide support, but if it's unnecessary, please let us know." It was unlikely that the Dragons would be able to read his report if they were engaged in combat, but if he was already writing one, it wouldn't hurt to include what he'd learned so far. If one of them found an opportunity to check their phone, they'd be able to pass along the message to the others.

"According to Silver, the manager, Silence had gotten aggressive after engaging with multiple workers. One worker is reported missing. Silver is confirmed to be an HP with the ability to prevent others from speaking. Was there anything strange about Silence's body aside from the poison? Would it be possible for Cipher to get the information from a cell phone here at the brothel? Please be safe, all of you." Taigakitt Taigakitt FabulousTrash FabulousTrash azenva azenva

Putting away his phone and dispelling his illusions, Isaiah gave Black his full attention. After giving them a moment to regain their composure, he continued their conversation. "How have you been holding up? Silver told me about what's happened lately, and I was worried. He even told me that one of the workers is missing." While there still wasn't enough information to make a conclusion, the missing worker was the closest they had to a suspect at the moment. Either that, or a possible victim.

"I understand if you'd rather not talk about it, but I'd like to help find them. With how dangerous the district has been lately, it'd be best if we can get them home as soon as possible. Is there anything you can tell me about them?" Even if they didn't have anything to do with the murder, he could still help track them down and make sure they were safe.

The cover created by Ezra's timely intervention bought the surprised Tigers enough time to regroup as the violent intruders seemed content with their handiwork and moved to the gaping hole in the buildings side they had inadvertently created. The view over the western district was still breathtaking but with the distinct lack of glass, cold night air whipped in from the broken panoramic window, cutting through the thickening scent of blood and tugging at the dark haired woman's cloth. Even from behind their cover Cassidy could tell she was already busy bringing about yet more trouble with that innocuous beacon of light.

Charmy gave a court response but from her tone it was obvious she was no more pleased with the situation than any of the others present. It seemed at odds with the rumors of the woman who was regularly at the center of catastrophic situations but certainly made her more personable. Such musings vanished when moments later the comedy mask turned, caught a sight of Ezra carrying Titus and raised his rifle. Much like kicking a hornets nest the hail of bullets chewing through their cover saw a surge of angry Tigers emerge.

There wasn't much subtlety to Cassidy's approach, the copycat relying on Charmy's assault and Ezra's borrowed powers to keep her in one piece as she barreled toward the raven haired woman. Hopefully Alice had made it to safety... frustration fueling her strike Cass sent the table leg at the woman in a wide sweeping arc. The blow fairly predictable if not for the fact that the leg began to reassemble into a full blown table during the swing. The weight and momentum enough to wrench the impromptu weapon from her grasp and send the veteran stumbling a couple of steps closer to the dark abyss.

“All of this for Latken?” the words escaped her in a hiss, as she prepared to follow up with the metallic baton. “Someone must have slipped one of those serpent concoctions into your drink...or mine.”

FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES
Raph watched with unabashed delight as Bash tried to operate his phone. He was thinking more clearly now; apparently he'd gotten something out of his system with all of that that had been going on up until now. Now Raph was more or less content to wait for his senior's cue. Lucky for him he didn't have to wait all that long, since Bash had barely lowered his phone before he took off in a dead sprint in the direction of the bowling alley.

After a surprised second, Raph followed swiftly behind, but not before taking the time to gingerly shove back down to the pavement a pedestrian who'd only just begun to recover from Bash's wild bullrush. For no reason at all.~

“If I lost you I'd just follow the trail of bodies.” Raph said snarkily to himself as the pair cut a swath through Central en route to their destination. He half-wondered if Anna and Darius would ever resurface. Maybe they'd become sewer people, surviving on rats and bathing in muddy toilet water, living out the rest of their days out of sight of the sun..? If ever there were two likely candidates for such a fate...

Raph mournfully ended early the funny little daydream he was having of Anna and Darius scuttling along the sewer floor as the bowling alley came into view and Bash skidded to a halt. Raph pinched his nose in disgust at the smell that wafted up from the Anna-and-Darius-sized hole in the sidewalk. He only let go—and forgot about the hole in its entirety—when he noticed Bash almost freeze up at the sight of the entrance (if one could really call it an entrance; the windows had all been blown out by something, so it wasn't like the front door was really keeping anyone, or anything, out at this point). Raph could only guess at what was going on in his head. Getting cold feet? Scared of a few kittens? Raph thought, but then thought better of it, and decided some things weren't worth pondering... Much.

Either way the door, for all it was worth, was kicked in now and the ramshackle interior of the alley was exposed, alongside a handful of... Interesting characters. Though nothing to Raph in that moment was more surprising than the moment Bash turned and gave him a thumbs up. The rush of blood to his head that accompanied the gesture was all Raph needed to know that he was back in the Game. For effect, Raph scoffed and mockingly shot Bash a thumbs up in return that was almost genuine, now that he thought about it.

'Go fuck yourself. But fine.~'

Once they were inside, Raph was more than happy to let Bash take the lead. He gave the pack of Tigers a lazy once-over and then went about boredly examining his fingertips. Luckily, or perhaps unluckily for Raph, he was too self-absorbed to recognize the Queen and Ace of the Tigers, or the imminent danger of the scene.

“What he said.~”

1642799294649.pngIt seemed they went to move on too late.

They were surrounded as quickly as Yuudai received the notice.

Oh well. Time for a bit of fun.

He stretched his nice side to side, loosening up his limbs. “Wish I had a cig before this, but fuck, is what it is.

There were three extra notable men. Two were behind where he was facing, not wearing typical police garb. There was one directly across from where those two would be, looking like a Potential version of himself. He wondered how much shifting that man could do and decided he didn’t like someone else having wolf ears or tail.

In fact…

Yuudai shifted, his canines elongating, and a wolf tail and ears sprouted on himself. He added on a more beastial appearance to his arms to top it off. A partial shift.

Kisara’s mutter reached his sensitive ears and he snorted. At least he could trust Kisara to wipe some weaklings out.

His blue eyes took in the circle, trying to pick out the obvious HPs just as Delynn nudged him. He looked over her way just as she motioned where she wanted to go. Yuudai’s face cracked into a wild smile as he snatched Delynn up in his arms and tossed her up into the power lines as requested. Well, at least he figured that’s what she was requesting.

Kisara’s “rights” statement made him chuckle, “When it comes to us, they don’t care.

Whatever Delynn was doing up on the utility pole caused the whole block to go dark– no power.

Tri had tried speaking along with Kisara’s speech, which was a bit funny, if not showcasing the lack of cohesion the Serpents had.

The explosion of Kisara’s laser beam erupted from her to a part of the surrounding circle. The police car that was propelled away caught fire. It would explode soon. Seemed Kisara had her prey in her sights. Perfect, because wolf-boy would be Yuudai’s.

Not taking his eyes off the other police dog, he slapped Tri with his fluffy tail, “Fuck some shit up. Maybe we’ll still get some test subjects for you. Don’t get arrested or I’ll come kill you myself.” An empty threat– he wouldn’t kill his Jack unless he did something to truly piss him off but Yuudai has known about Tri since he was a teenager, so they probably had some history, whether they acted on any of that history or not.

And off Yuudai went just as bullets were called to fire and he felt some hit his body. NP bullets, but he was still cautious just in case they had any big guns.

Note: There are some big guns… check the rooftops.

Kanna Katsura - Azure Dragons - Jack [CS LINK]
Scene - Dragons Arc 1 | Scene 4: Reckoning
Location - Inter-District Bridge
Mentions/Interactions - Ruriko Ikeda ( Beann Beann ), @Vulken Beckmen ( Nobody Special Nobody Special ), Shen Yue ( Elenion Aura Elenion Aura )

Kanna relaxed her eyes, which were squinting just moments ago.

Her hands were pressed into the hood of the car, dents underneath her palms. The front of the car was pressed downwards, the wheels practically touching the upper part of the wheel well. The front bumper was just a fraction of an inch away from touching her clothing.

She released the breath she was holding, but it was hardly the time to start relaxing. From what started as a simple chase evolved into some sort of mini-war.

Kanna heard the shouting from behind her. It was a male's voice and she recognized it immediately. Vulken Beckman, a Phoenix, and their former Jack. Immediately, Kanna grew concerned. Was he here alone, or were there other Phoenixes with him on the bridge?

Unfortunately, Kanna had no time to ponder that thought as she noticed movement. The woman in the car stepped out and onto the hood, her sword drawn. Kanna was quick to react, straightening herself as she pushed the car back a couple feet to make distance between them. Kanna's hand went to her side, drawing out her bo-staff and extended it out with a flick of her wrist. She looked over to see that Ruriko had drawn her sword as well.

But before anyone moved, her phone went off. Kanna raised an eyebrow, glancing back towards the woman to make sure that she didn't make any sudden movements. Kanna listened to Ruriko speak.

Out of all the times, he chooses to call now?

While Shen was the King of the Dragons, and well respected by her, Kanna had her....concerns, about the man. Mainly his attitude towards most things. Credit where it was due, Kanna always admired that Shen was capable of staying calm and composed during more tense situations, but maybe he was a bit too good. Plus, the plenty of times where his indifference resulted in Yo and Kanna working more together than her and Shen.

She watched as Ruri ended the call, then formed another portal above them. On cue, Shen emerged, floating downward like something out of a movie. Kanna followed his gaze as he looked the other direction, towards where she heard Vulken's voice. It was clear that Shen would handle them. Having him here at the very least was comforting to Kanna.

She directed her full attention back the car and its occupants. Kanna shifted her feet and the grip on her staff, taking a ready stance. Her eyes stared down daggers at the woman, her boyfriend, and the white haired man. It was taking a lot of self control for Kanna not to go ballistic on them, continuing to remind herself that they could have valuable information regarding why all of this was happening.

Kanna gave one last look towards Ruriko. Without any warning, she suddenly dashed forward, pointing her staff forward and aimed it at the lady's stomach. Whether it was blocked or not, Kanna attempted to grab her and carry her upwards into the sky a few feet, then suddenly crash her back down into the bridge.

They were a near-instantaneous few moments. One of the suspects jumped in front of the first man, tanking many of the bullets and making it clear she was another HP. And, as expected, she wasn't going on without a fight. He could barely react when she lunged out; from the drone to Jesper.

With the wave of a hand, the drone barely hovered out of her reach, only being tapped by her hand as it and the other stopped firing. Guardian himself slid backward, feeling the suspect's hair brush against him once she made impact. And, face-to-face, he finally got a look at her: two devilish horns, flaming red hair, risque clothing... and notably worse for wear. "You're... Reika...?" The exasperated look on him disappeared, replaced with utter dismay. If it weren't for Guardian's already pale skin tone, he would have been blanching right in front of her. What is the Phoenix Queen doing here?! As the smoke cleared out a little, Jesper finally got a proper look at the the other two "suspects." He'd gotten it completely wrong.

Guardian's mouth twitched ajar, trying to form the right words for the Phoenixes. But what was he to say? He shot at them not too long ago! And these Phoenixes were the only people that he couldn't talk out via harsh words and threats. Biting his lip, only one word escaped his lips: "Mistake..."

Jesper had the drones fly away from the trio, himself following suit; just as Shen descended from a portal, like something out of a miracle to the boy. With the King here, everything would be resolved, and they could go home! Guardian hovered with his drones back into the smoke plumes, trying to keep his teeth from chattering from the mishap a moment ago. While a part of him massively worried about the consequences of shooting at the Phoenix Queen (the gang which they had a queasy alliance with), the three real suspects were still out there.

Though it was still as difficult to see through, this time Guardian heard Kanna in one direction. This time it couldn't have been anyone other than the targets. This was affirmed when the stopped care came into view, where Kanna was indeed brawling with one of the runners. In the vehicle were the other two, and so it fell to Guardian to keep them at bay. He sent the two drones forth, opening fire at the car. Their aim, however, was through the windows and off to the side of the people's heads; this wasn't to kill, but to panic—spur them into rash action, with shattering glass and metal being peppered with gunfire. And if any of the bullets happened to strike the couple? They were HPs! They could take it!

A Gathering Storm
A ping came from Helvas phone, a text, not something she was expecting at the moment but she took out her phone nonetheless, when they swipped through it they had found out it was from Lyric. A smile came to Helvas face upon seeing Lyrics name, but that smile didn't last long as she had then began to read the text, anger, rage, hate, the emotions she was feeling at the moment were defiantly not positive ones. A Phoenix that was part of her mission group had died on her watch, though to be fair, she wasn't exactly mission leader, it was Alex after all that sent Nina off alone, and now they are dead. She didn't care much for Nina, nor does she like Alex, but when someone kills a Scarlet Phoenix, on her watch nonetheless, then there will be hell to pay. She allowed the hate and anger to flow through her body as she then pulled out her trusty tomahawk and cut her hand, she eyed the blood as it trickled down her hand, before then recieting to herself "The Blood of a Phoenix has been spilled, and so has mine, for that, the blood of our enemies will be spilled in turn, this I swear on my life." a oath made to herself. A oath promising vengeance, a vow promising that Blood will be paid in Blood, HATE , her body twitched in want, the need to KILL , the pulsing energy throughout her body that was begging to be released, but it needed to be conserved. She needed to calm herself, a deep breath in, and deep breath out, again, again, and again, until she had finally somewhat calmed herself down enough to think rationally.

She had to notify Zulin of this predicament, she needed Hide, Alex and the others back asap so they can coordinate a new strategy that won't get them killed under Alexs watch. Zulin, Hurry it up, Quetzal is dead, be prepared, we are hunting tonight, Blood will be spilled. With that she had put her trusty tomahawk away, and went into her car the anger and bloodlust was still in her eyes, but it was just barely under control. Someone was going to pay tonight, and the only payment that she would accept would be in blood, let the hunt, begin.

A annoyed look was given to Alex when he failed to refer to him properly, "Rude" was the only thing he really muttered though, Alexs intrusion made things less fun, as he pretty much killed the mood and took over. Zulin couldn't help but roll his eyes in annoyance at his little speech, he had things all under control and leave it to Alex to steal his thunder, i guess you could say Alex was a bit Greedy in that regard. Zulin couldn't help but chuckle a bit at his little internal pun, but it seemed that the fear has been placed into the crowd, now they were too deep in the intimidation game to go back now. How unfortunate, when the man finally introduced himself as Armas Nylund Zulin raised a eyebrow, he had hardly expected a Nylund to be here, especially since they rarely ever were seen publicly. Helva would totally be interested in this little story, HATE, well probably not, he could sense the anger radiating from her now, something has gotten her ticked off and it can't really be good. It only took a moment before he had finally received Helvas message, Zulin couldn't help but chuckle a bit at this new little predicament, this news should defiantly piss off Alex, WHAT FUN. Zulin was broken out of his thoughts by Hide, who now seemed to be directing his anger towards the pink girl, what a pain. Either way he had some interesting news, and went over to Hide and grabbed his shoulders from behind leaning forward he said to him "Quetzal, is dead, Revernant is pissed, and we won't get any useful information if you start with all this senseless violence now, will we? Save the bloodlust for later ok?" with that he gave Hide a little smirk and went over to the guy claiming to be a Nylund with a smug grin. "It seems we have come into a predicament, and time is of the essence, i have a pissed off Revernant on standby and she wants this meeting to be over quickly or else she will come here herself, and lets just say this ship might get a red paint job if that happens. We want any information you got on any suspicious or strange activity that has been happening around the area, you may wanna wrack your brains together on this cause if we don't get out of here soon, then I may decide to give you guys a bit of motivation. Also by the way, you do have to tell me what a Nylund like you would be doing in a crowd like this."

"Sit yer ass back down." Markus snapped. Isobel remained standing, arms tense at her side, stubbornly meeting the king's gaze. His thoughts seemed to drift elsewhere for a moment before suddenly plucking his phone from the desk to make a call.

"Game's over. Bring me the fat bastard. Now."

Isobel raised a brow. So he'd known where Latken was this whole time. What was it that he could possibly need her for then? The thought passed her mind and she almost let out an audible scoff. Who was she kidding? It was likely she would probably finish the job and still not know the full story. That was just how Markus was, untrusting of everything and everyone around him. She couldn't really fault him for that. This was a harsh world where trust was a hard currency to earn. Give it too freely and you might find yourself on the wrong side of a bad situation. Like she had all those years ago. As much as either of them hated to admit it, they were two sides of the same coin. It didn't feel like that long ago when she witnessed a boy, defeated in his battle for Jack, sow his own seeds of discontent within him. While she had retreated into the shadows and put up walls between herself and the world in an effort to stop the hate from festering, he allowed it to grow and fuel his pursuit of power.

Now she stood in his office, still trapped in a deal she wanted so desperately to get out of, and he had his throne but was still bitter and wanting.

Caught up in her thoughts, she'd missed the sound of a second gunshot firing off in the room behind her. It wasn't until a knock on the door that she snapped back to the present. One of the guards that had been posted outside his office came rushing in, concern awash on his face. "'Pologies fer the intrusion, Boss..." He said as he fished out a couple of gas masks and an umbrella from behind a false panel in the wall. "But, uh, you better come take a look at this...”

Without waiting to see what Markus might do, Isobel rushed to the door, snatching one of the gas masks out of the guard's hand along the way. However, before she had the chance to put it on she caught a whiff of something noxious that immediately incited a coughing fit and left her feeling lightheaded. As tears filled her eyes, she brought the mask up to her face and took a deep gasping breath of fresh, filtered air. Running up to the balcony where Yulia stood, gun still in hand, she took in the chaos below. HPs and NPs alike were trapped in what looked like a massive human stampede. Curiously, a bunch of party-goers had been stuck into the rungs of a ladder reaching up to the ceiling that she was sure had not been there before.

Scanning the mess below she recognized a couple of Tiger members below trying to break up the fight, including the rookies that had been seated at Markus' table earlier. One of them - the tall, slender, dark-haired man - looked to be making chase, and as her eye followed the direction he was headed she spotted a well-dressed man in a red suit, eyes alight with glee, disappearing through a door. Quickly, she committed his appearance to memory at the same time wondering why a man who didn't want to be followed would choose to wear such an ostentatiously colored suit.

Isobel got a feeling that it was going to be a long night.

AUGUST

TAZMANIAN DEVIL
"TAZZ"

<<< Remember

August had his own money, that's for sure, but it came and went oftentimes very fast. His income wasn't weekly-based or salary, but he made what he made by the efforts he was willing to put in. Sometimes he had too much to know what to do with, and other times he barely made enough to pay Markus on time.

When Lucy called out to him, he halted with a half-amused cringe for the first half of her demand. Then at the mention of "that new collector thingy" he's been talking about, as in the hard-back, seventh edition release on Alduron's Wrath extensive lore book, his bushy white eyebrows arched high.

There was no telling how long the hard-back edition would remain in stock--not to mention he heard about it rather late--so this was, perhaps, an opportunity he'd be a fool to turn down. This month had been slow of income anyway, and there was always the possibility that Lucy had more connections than he in the likely case of the book selling out. Even so, he'd hunted valuables down before, and he could it again.

Now was the time to weigh his options.

Steel blue eyes focused on Bash, more so known to him as Taipan, then on the clone behind him.

Go home and sleep?

Stick around and find out?

August shut his eyes tight in a state of hard deliberation, tuning out the goings-on around him just long enough to reach a final, yet wary decision.

He needed to earn the trust of the Tigers if he planned on reacquiring his collections.

While he and Lucy were friends of a sort, he doubted she trusted him 100% as a Tiger given the story behind his membership.

Reaching up, he unfastened the first two buttons of his shirt, untucking it from his pants also. He hadn't planned on landing a fight today, so he didn't quite dress the part, but it would have to do.

Hesitation and exhaustion settled stiff in his knees, but this wouldn't be the first time.

No time wasted.

As another yawn stretched his mouth wide, bringing tears to his eyes, he crouched down with lousy form before rocketing high with a powerful blast of wind from his arms. Flipping quickly in the air, his feet planted against the ceiling. Then came another blast of wind as he shot down at the goon behind Taipan, hoping to distract the Ace with a throw of his switchblade aimed directly at his face.

On the initial blast of wind, papers behind the front counter and crumbs along the floor rose and scattered in a flurry. Anyone's hair nearby might have also been affected. On the second blast, the ceiling shuddered, rattling all the way down into the metal of the front door.

If all went accordingly, he would slam violently into the other Serpent who was distracted by his own hand, shortly pinning him to the ground, before gripping him by the clothes and, with another expulsion of wind, drag him outside through one of the empty window frames. His black beanie would be left in the sprinklings of glass on the floor, white strands of hair now obstructing his vision, but only a little.

Given his clumsy nature and lacking agility, the feat would be done sloppily. August's back would thud against the pavement even as he tried to soften the landing, and his grip on Raph would be released as he tried to gather himself in hopes of getting to his feet.

His fingers were crossed that the one he chose wasn't actually the Serpent's Ace instead.

(The above hypothetical has been approved.)

Yuto tilted his head in curiosity as Snake-man arrived at the docks. Were they going to be playing with someone? Ooh~ judging by the man saying "A good covered position" It definitely sounded like a game of hide and tag! Yuto giggled to himself, already feeling his energy ramp up by the second.

He shoved open the door and leaped out of the backseat, immediately roaming his eyes to take in his surroundings. Unfortunately for him, he didn't see too many good hiding spots. Of course he could always hide on one of the boats but... what fun would that be? He'd be wayyy too far away from all the action after all! Yuto hummed to himself, circling the car they just got out of. The vehicle was also an option, it would give him an opportunity to avoid their vision if he just sneaked around the car, but... that left him too vulnerable. Car was a no-go.

The three-eyed man huffed in frustration, crossing his arms and raising a hand to tap his chin- contemplating. He shoved his bottom lip out into a pout, his eyebrows furrowing as he stared holes into his shiny reflection. What else what else... Well. What other than his surroundings could he use? That answer was easy. He could always use another human as a shield! But then that would be considered cheating....

Yuto suddenly perked up as he let out a dramatic gasp. Who ever said he had to be the hider? Snake-man just said find cover- not that he had to stay in said cover. The car was here for convenience sake after all! Yuto giggled maniacally, exclaiming loudly, " I'LL BE THE BOOGEYMAN! " Still giggling, he reached his arms onto the car, and hauled himself up, rolling until the metal hit his feet then jumped up. He put his hands on his hips triumphantly. Yuto was so smart! He was going to treat himself to a nice hunt after this.

He suddenly laid his hands on the ground, lifting himself up to do a handstand, then theatrically spun himself into a criss-crossed sitting position, awaiting the other members of the game to arrive.

Anna's pace slowed, and then eventually stopped. Darius was right. She'd been chased plenty of times before, and one thing that it was not was quiet. Aside from the sloshing of gutter water, and the slow rumble of traffic milling about overhead, there wasn't a peep of sound within the sewers, so they were safe. Probably.

As a force of habit, her body urged her to huff or puff out some sort of sigh of relief, but the air below the streets was thick and musky enough for instincts to kick it before she swallowed a lungful of tepid sewer fog. Anna's phone, one of the few sources of light in the understreet, buzzed softly in her hands. Again. She knew exactly why, and she oh so wished that she could just ignore it... But a job was a job.

"Coming."

She replied to Bash's demands as plainly as she could, not wanting to risk some sort of unforeseen outburst from the fierce young man just because she'd answered him with the wrong emoji. Or something. It wasn't like she was a bastion of stoicism or anything, but Anna seriously had trouble comprehending how people could be quite so violent as her two black-haired seniors were. Was it that hard to just not scream and throw your fists at anything that upset you?

She didn't want to know the answer to that.

"They've probably been talking out their problems, I guess." Anna partly joked, and partly hoped. She stared at Bash's pair of messages as she stood knee-deep in the sewer's muck, and her mind churned at the thought of having to take on so many Tigers. Thankfully, the way that her voice bounced off of the sewer's long corridor served to mostly hide whatever hints of concern or aversion that might've snuck their way into her voice. Mostly.

"Do you think you could cause a distraction for me? I want to try and surprise those Tigers so things don't have to get any bloodier than they need to." She started to trudge back through the sewers, the way she came. "If I can lock them down from beneath, Bash shouldn't have a problem touching them, and then it should be easy as pie, right?"

She doubted it would be that easy. It never was, but she gave herself a small nod of encouragement nonetheless.

Right.

"I think I'd like that. Provided our future missions don't turn out like this." A smirk stretched across Ezra's face as he responded to Cassidy. It seemed as though she had taken a liking to his Potential, but that was to be expected. The ability to repair anything was clearly more useful for this situation than one that was only good for serving up cake and tea. The copycat was already showing off its capabilities by undoing the damage done to her clothes.

After seeing his fellow Tiger's reaction to being hit by a bullet, he came to the conclusion that the masked men weren't using weapons designed for combating HPs. Guns manufactured for that purpose would have left Cassidy with much more than a torn shirt. That didn't mean an ordinary projectile would be completely ineffective, but there was less to worry about this way. For him and his companions, at least. Any firearm would be more than enough to take care of Titus and the other guests.

Fortunately, it appeared that the enemy had no interest in the fleeing gamblers, paying them no mind as the walking wallets ran for the elevator and any other exit they could find. Like the gun-toting twosome, the dark-haired assailant had also ceased her attack, giving up on her portly mark as soon as the window shattered and bolting for the newly created opening. Upon reaching the ledge, the woman shone a light into the sky. While Ezra noted that her speed was unnatural for a normal person, the beacon lighting up the night was a more pressing concern.

Ezra's first thought was that the light was meant to be a signal for reinforcements. Either that or a request for evacuation. The latter seemed more likely, considering the trio was indifferent to everything except Titus. Although, a phone call would have worked just as well for those possibilities. Did these people simply have a flair for the dramatic? Their state of dress gave him an obvious answer, but there was likely a better reason for their actions. Sadly, he wouldn't have much time to think about what that reason could have been.

Having finally noticed that the pig hadn't been slaughtered, the tragicomic couple suddenly deemed Ezra and the other Tigers worthy of their attention. While the happier of the two took aim, the sad-faced foe sank into the floor. Ezra would take this as his cue to change positions, not having much faith in a table's ability to prevent him and his luggage from being filled with lead. After seeing Cassidy turn one of the wooden legs into a makeshift weapon, he had a feeling there wouldn't be a table to hide behind for much longer anyway.

The moment Charmy and Cassidy charged toward their respective opponents, Ezra used the opportunity to find new cover. Grabbing Titus by the collar, he moved the larger man closer to his chest to better shield his body. Keeping an eye out for any sign of the remaining gunman, he made a dash for another table that had been knocked over by fleeing patrons. As soon as they were out of the line of fire, Ezra dropped Titus and reached into his pocket. This table would do no better than the first at protecting them, but he only needed it to last for a few moments.

Grabbing the phone he fixed earlier, Ezra scrolled through the screen with his thumb while his other hand tightened around the grip of his pistol. Unfortunately, he hadn't been worthy enough to be graced with the King's number, but thanks to a handy feature known as call history, that information wasn't necessary. With just a tap and a few short rings, he was granted an audience. "Ah, there we go." The gloomy gunman likely wouldn't have the manners to wait until he was done talking, so Ezra wasted no time before speaking when Markus finally picked up.

"Apologies if I'm interrupting something important, Boss, but I thought it'd be best to let you know that there's been an issue with your delivery. The casino is currently under attack by three armed HPs, and they're very determined to kill the fat bastard you ordered. His head nearly separated from his body before I put him back together. The turn of events was unexpected, considering how well they were getting along while cheating at cards, but they quickly turned on him as soon as he agreed to leave with us." It was possible that Markus had some insight as to why things turned out as they did, but that discussion could wait. He had a more important question that needed answering.

"So, would you like us to stay here and deal with them, or would you prefer we head straight to your location? Keeping him here seems too risky, so I'm considering leaving the enemies to the others while I make my escape." While he was more than capable of handling a theatre troupe that turned to life a crime, Ezra had a massive handicap at the moment. Regrettably, having to lug Titus around during a fight made him a liability. Staying here wouldn't be doing him or the big man any favors. It'd leave Charmy and Cassidy down a member, but it wasn't like he could contribute much while babysitting. Speaking of which, Alice had been taken care of thanks to the timely arrival of the young girl's caretaker. With her in safe hands and the guests evacuated, there was no reason to stay behind. The enemies were only interested in Titus in the first place, so it might even benefit his coworkers if he made a break for it. Although, none of that mattered if the boss ordered him to stay put.

"It's possible that they've called for reinforcements, so if you'd like us to stay here, I'm sure the others would appreciate any backup you could spare. Trying to fight off an unknown number of HPs while protecting Titus and Alice at the same time doesn't sound very appealing with just three of us here."

Finished with his report, Ezra waited for the King's decision before making his next move. Alas, there was no royal decree. The only answer he received was the sound of the line disconnecting, Markus having hung up as soon as Ezra finished speaking. "Was it something I said?" With a shrug, he pulled the phone away from his ear and began typing, not taking any offense to the lack of response. Maybe the boss was in a bad mood. Then again, was he ever in a good one? Well, it didn't really matter. At least he listened until the end. If the King was really angry, he wouldn't have let Ezra get a single word in.

Without any input from the head Tiger, Ezra decided to follow the first order he'd been given. Not wanting to waste any more breath, he sent a short text to Markus, knowing that there was a high chance it would never be read. Your delivery is on its way.

With that business taken care of, Ezra pocketed the phone and holstered his weapon. Once again, he reached for Titus, making sure to get a good grip on his bulbous body. He saw some eye movement earlier, but there was no telling if the socialite was actually aware of his surroundings. Still, he was kind enough to give him fair warning before making his next move. "If you can hear me, try not to squirm. I may just drop you."

With Titus in hand, Ezra charged in the same direction Cassidy had gone, heading straight for the copycat and her distracted opponent. He nodded approvingly as she brought down an entire table with her swing, pleased to see her using one of his own tricks. He continued to smirk as he ran past the two women, grabbing one of the many shards of glass before jumping from the ledge. "Watch your step!"

Leaping into the darkness, he felt the cold wind rush through his hair and pick up speed as he began to descend. It was a suicidal action for a normal person, and even an HP wouldn't come out unscathed after falling from such a height. However, Ezra had no intention of breaking his bones just to get Titus to safety. Channeling his power into the glass shard, he felt the pull of the piece trying to become whole. As it pulled upwards, he stopped in midair, defying gravity just a short distance from the city streets that threatened to crush his legs. As soon as he loosened his grip, his feet gently touched the ground and the shard continued its journey. The shattered window was now repaired, removing the beacon from the evening sky. While he couldn't turn back time to prevent it from shining in the first place, the light had been dealt with for now.

Ezra wasn't foolish enough to believe that he was safe just because he was back on the ground. Without wasting any time, he ran to where he parked his car and threw Titus into the passenger seat, buckling him in to keep him from flying through the windshield. With his cargo secured, he jumped behind the wheel, and turned the key.

As the engine roared to life, he called out to Titus once again and plucked a hair from his head, still not knowing if the man was conscious or not. "Mind telling me what's going on? An explanation might motivate me to work harder at keeping you alive." He didn't wait for an answer before pressing on the gas pedal.

What was even happening at this point? It all seemed like bullshit. Between the return transmissions on the radio, and what Helva’s shadow puppet just said. Thoughts were turning like waves at sea in Alex’s head. Greed kept staring the Nylund down as he reached into his pocket, up until he got his phone high enough up as to read his messages. The cracking of its screen was audible, but Alex retained himself from breaking the piece of technology entirely. Even still, while his body remained composed, the metal hands floating around in the air gave off the sound of metal screeching against metal as they all closed into fists. They needed to regroup. They needed to regroup and that nuisance of a shadow was trying to get the situation violent with the threat of blood baths.

“Listen, Nylund, disregard what that death worshiper is spouting. As of right now, I’m not sure if you’re what I’m after. But if you’re not, then let us not meet again.” With that, Alex turned and walked over to the railing of the boat, clearing his throat and shouting “IF ANY OF HAVE INFO WORTHWHILE, YOU’LL FIND PROTECTION AND PAYMENT FROM GREED AT THE PHEONIX HQ!”

One of the hands let go of Alex’s shoulder and flew over to Hide, grabbing him so his head was between the middle and ring fingers, the thumb hooking under one of his shoulders. With that, Alex used his manifestation to pick up and carry Hide through the air, while taking one final look at the Nylund “Try not to party too hard, you might have trouble hiding close at hand.” And then to Zulin “We’re going, now Zuls.”

With that out of the way, Alex jumped from the deck of the boat down to the docks, making the manifested hand bring Hide along, lowering him close enough to the ground that if Hide wanted, he could start walking, but would otherwise be a few feet to Alex’s right. Nina died, for that others will perish, but morning would have to wait as wraith tried to fill all of Alex’s faculties. Doing a few stretches as he moved, Alex prepped to move after than any NP could hope. Usually, only when Alex was out on his own did he take full advantage of his HP body, but he had Hide held, and Helva’s shadow person could keep up. Once Alex was at the edge of the crowd, he bolted, going straight for the street, running overtop cars as need be, while doing this he grabbed at his radio to respond, even in his anger feeling some small sorrow that it took so long to reply.

“First off, Spellbinder isn’t a casualty, he was just beaten up by some teens. Secondly, nothing useful from the docks. Let’s regroup, Pharoh you know the place, with the stone oven, I took you there after you got sponsored.” Alex’s voice lacked any of his normal kindness of playfulness. “Helva, you have your shadow tell you the way.”

"They've probably been talking out their problems, I guess."

Darius gave a half-hearted laugh. Given what the alternative was, it was more sad than funny. But hey, better it was Raph than them, right? His trainers squelched under his feet as he swung his phone torch around the dark trails. Facing the Tigers didn't seem like such a bad option now, and he wished he had the foresight to keep his distance from both them and Anna before the ground melted. Even staying back to mediate the Bash beatdown felt more ideal now as the noxious smells continued to invade his senses.

He gladly followed Anna as she walked back where they came from, and the tunnel filled with more light as they approached the hole. As eager as Darius was to get back on ground level, the role of "distraction" was vague enough to make him uncertain once again about his choices. He felt his stomach turn, a combination of nerves and the disgusting environment.

"Distraction? What do you expect me to do, dance for them? If you have an actual plan, then I'll try something, I guess. But I don't know what they can do..." Anything that would bring attention to him seemed undesirable at this point, but Darius felt motivated. As long as he stayed out of harm's way.

As they reached the hole, it became clear that they'd need to find another way out. The ground beneath it was still thick with molten pavement, and the solid ground above was too high to reach. The visibility was a lot better though, showing a way out down the sewer's other path.

He shone his phone torch up to confirm what he was seeing and saw the light glint off some rungs built into the wall.
"Down there." He instructed Anna in a low voice, still listening for any signs of life above. As he treaded through the water and the liquefied street, he heard an all too familiar voice and froze in place to listen.

"No wonder they fuckin' ran! You pussies're a scaaaary little bunch, aint'cha?"

Oh no. He's going for it without them? Darius felt a twinge of shame for not staying put, though his life did depend on it. He glanced over to Anna, his expression telling it all. Terrified once again. He continued in silence until he reached the grimy rungs. He was thankful for his gloves, though his entire outfit was due about 20 runs through the washing machine when he got home.

"I'll get you your distraction. I'll... figure something out." Darius said with little confidence as he ascended the ladder. They were fortunate enough that the manhole cover was only being held in place by its weight, and Darius managed to push it open. It landed on the street with a loud clank, and Darius prayed it didn't alert Bash or Raph as he clambered out. He couldn't see them and assumed they had entered the building.
"Go find the others, I'll meet you." Darius appeared to retreat down an alleyway, away from the fight, but he did have a plan. Trying to distract the Tigers next to Bash and Raph would be impossible, he simply wouldn't be able to command any attention. What he needed was to surprise them.

Surely the front door wouldn't be the only way to enter the building, and that's what Darius was looking to confirm as he sneaked behind Mach Sling. Navigating around a few dumpsters littering the backstreet, he sees a door wedged open, illuminated by a sign that says "EXIT". Just what he was looking for. It's now or never, Darius. He rushes through the doorway and sees the backs of several Tigers. He could feel the adrenaline course through his system now. Ignoring the customers and staff that remained in the building, he picks up the nearest item, a fire extinguisher that stood by the exit. Without any hesitation, he chucks it with all his might at the blonde woman with the scythe who spoke to him before.

"Hey! Thought we weren't coming back?"

He immediately regretted this decision. Anna's move better be worth it.

<Will do>

While simple, Meirin’s text reflected her thoughts well enough as she scrutinized the pictures Jay sent. Angel looked exactly like Isaiah’s illusion showed. Swallowtail, on the other hand, seemed to like butterflies. It was obvious, at least to Meirin, from the message and picture he sent, that Jay deeply cared for his purple-eyed co-worker. There was no logical reasoning for her assessment. No deep thinking. Just gut instinct.

For that reason, and that reason alone, Meirin would do what she could to ensure that the girl got a fair trial—unless she was proven to be a cold-blooded murderer with little remorse, of course. Justice and order was what kept the peace of the East. Honor that defined the dignity and nobility of the Dragon. The Night Lord, the previous owner of Eternal Night Palace, had been the one to teach her that—to act upon her own sense of honor regardless of what anyone else thought of it. The law? Public opinion of sex work? None of that mattered so long as she, a dragon, acted in a manner she believed to be right…and, compared to what she’d read about when the four gangs warred, peace was the better option.

Fighting for stability was something she could get behind.

Control was needed to reign in those who would cause chaos and destruction—especially given the chaotic world they lived in. After all, Meirin knew better than anyone how dangerous her potential—any potential—could be to those like her sister that weren’t blessed with power. Fear wasn’t the best way to rule, and she strove to lessen it where she could, but it was effective. It kept her and her sister safe. Deep down, that was what really mattered to Meirin.

She didn’t choose to be a Dragon, but she didn’t regret becoming one.

As Isaiah’s text came in, Meirin nodded. Order received. Her gaze flitted from her phone, to Dragon HQ, to deeper within the Pleasure District where her large ears could tell where the gunshots were coming from. Kind of. Somewhere in the residential section of the Pleasure District from the sounds of it. Stepping back, Meirin gave herself a running start as she hopped from roof to roof, eyes searching for whatever caused gunfire to rain upon their HQ while her fingers dialed Yo’s number.

Even in the darkness, guns that big couldn’t stay hidden forever. Hopefully they were too busy firing at HQ to see her. Darkness worked to her advantage in that regard. Isaiah’s illusion as well…for however long it remained. Not like someone else’s potential was something she had very much control over. Right now, putting a stop to the threat attacking HQ was her priority. She didn't even know who she was looking for, but if they knew she was coming for them, chances were they'd stop firing at HQ and aim their shots at her. That would make finding them easier.

Wind billowed through Meirin’s hair as she brought her phone to ear and moved, following her gut (and ears). Endless rings followed by the voicemail greeted her. Did something happen to the Queen? Meirin swore, her worry intensifying as dialed another person she knew ought be at Dragon HQ—Cipher.

She trusted them of course. They were strong. However, if something happened to them, it would be her fault. The attack on HQ was coming from the Pleasure District. Her sector of the East. The one where she, as a Dragon living in the Pleasure District, ought be keeping a better eye of. Long days of peace since the Guardian’s launch had made her lax.

Relief filled her when a click sounded, signifying to her that someone had picked up, and Meirin spoke even before hearing a greeting at the other end. “Kasumi! What’s going on? Is everyone alright!?”

Akane Miyazaki

As Hector filled in Lyric about the information they had just received as well as found out what she knew about the situation with Nina, Akane just stayed quiet. Her heart wasn't in it for the regular sass she gave after finding out what happened to her comrade. If butterflies were involved, and the suspicious man they were given as a lead had a potential involving animals, then maybe he may also be involved in Nina's killing.

When Alex finally responded to her message, she let out a sigh at the clarification of Hide's state. From the straight-forward tone of his voice, the woman could only assume he had also found out about Nina. Neither of them were in the mood to argue about semantics, then. She kept her response straight forward as well.

"Got it. We have a lead. We'll discuss when we meet up." She then turned to Hector. "Greed says to meet up at the place with the stone oven." It sounded like a pizza place to her, which there were many around. "He says it's the place he took you after you got sponsored." She wasn't sure if Hector had heard it on his own through his own earpiece, but figured if telling him would make things go quicker, then there was no issue in potentially repeating information. "Are we driving, or walking?" If they were to drive, she could possibly consolidate all the information Noland and Catherine gave her. The man's fear of Nylund's encroaching on the docks popped into her head as well. Perhaps that could be something she discussed with Lyric after this all was over.
