THE RECRUIT

Bludgeoning the shield into pieces felt cathartic, but frustratingly it still wasn't his target. Hector went for another swing, as Milo scrambled away, and his iron fist caved in the already damaged street below. Some noises were beginning to return, though it was hard to decipher anything specific through the ringing in his ears. His head continued to pound and his teeth felt like they were about to be ground into dust with the way he was clenching them.

He sprung to his feet, to give chase yet again, but stopped seeing a black shape in the corner of his thankfully undamaged vision. He turned to the SUV that led the fleet down the road, too surprised to act upon it until it screeched to a halt in front of his opponent.
Another idiot trying to intervene? Shouldn't they know better than to get in the way of the Ace's business?

It was lucky that Hector had learned some self-control during his time in New Oasis, otherwise, he'd be punching a hole through every car blocking him from Milo. Instead, he took the time to catch his breath. It took him a moment to cop onto the fact that there was a large fleet of SUVs headed in the same direction he was originally headed, which was quite unusual.

Hector squinted, unsuccessfully trying to recognize the faces through the tinted windows. It was then that he picked up on Boltius's voice through the garbled mess that was his current hearing.
Who's dancing?

"I told you not to interrupt." He answered with a grimace as the path to Milo was cleared. This was not a good time. This was the worst time. If the fight had only just begun, Hector would take his chances to quickly defeat Milo before checking out the motorcade. But he was losing confidence in the time he aimed to end the fight in. He was sure he could destroy him, but how long would it take before Milo runs out of tricks? It would be an issue if he missed the chance to help the gang due to this challenge.

He pointed at Milo from across the street,

"You ain't taking my title," he forced the words out, the resentment evident. He lowered his arm, but kept an eye on Milo, barking orders to the Phoenixes nearby. "Contact Coalescence. Follow them. I'll catch up."

Boltius was right, he had to do his job. He was still the Ace.

"That's Phoenix business right there." Hector was speaking to Milo now, nodding his head in the direction the motorcade went. He didn't want to be the one to say it, but he had to postpone the fight for now. He really didn't want to say it, and so he didn't. Surely the wannabe Phoenix Ace would understand that business comes first?

The first thing Dyne noticed was a breeze against her neck. Shiri's blade would face an unusual resistance short of Dyne's skin, the repulsion field she created to repel the rain. Her pupils constricted. In a moment of reflex, a repulsion field expanded between them at full body length, pushing the two Dragons apart.

Dyne used the momentum to retreat further. Her expression twisted with displeasure. Really, must they fight in this rain? That forced break in concentration already turned her damper than she liked. Oh, she truly despised this man and his creepy smile. If she was alone, she would have just end it there. A little kid was not worth the trouble.

Well, if it was before~

"Well, what can I do, Sugar Pie?" She said with a honeyed voice, sickeningly saccharine as her smile. "I'm a kind Dragon that doesn't like trouble, but Senior over there wanted the little child and I'm not sure the darling with him would care for you to take him, too."

"So why don't you cool your head with Ra Darling, Sugar?"

Another repulsion field exploded underneath her feet. Being high up, Dyne projected an attraction field around the creep to hinder his movement. Her loose dress fluttered like a busy swan with her ascent for a rather unflattering image.

"Ra, be a dear and help me with this one here!"

As she shouted so, Dyne turned toward the spirited young man and the child with a smile that was not a smile. If Ra could tie up the alley man, she could help Senior Ruri and improve their relationship~

THE CHILD
Pretty good? Of course, she was pretty good! She trained hard almost every day to — no, no, why is she accepting compliments from a creep chasing after a child? Ruriko shook off the compliment, forcing down the swelling pride that was bubbling up before as her grip on her weapon tightened. She raised her eyebrow at his explanation, wondering how bullshit that excuse had to be. Then the same question was directed at her –! This forced Ruriko to frown deeply as she fought back a scoff.

“It’s not like I want to chase after this kid,” it’s true, she’d much rather be back in line ordering gyoza and takoyaki, “but his parents are looking for him and tasked me with finding him.” That…that also sounded like a bullshit excuse now that she heard it come out of her own mouth. Even if it was the truth, she definitely wouldn’t buy it if she had heard it from someone else. She wouldn’t let her uncertainty show though as she held a determined expression. That is until two familiar voices called out to her.

Keeping her sheathed katana pointed at the red-haired man, her gaze shifted over to Dyne and Ra who had made an unexpected appearance. “What are you two doing here — nevermind that, some parents are looking for their child,” she motioned to the child nearby. “They’re waiting by a food stand —” another familiar face appeared, this time threatening Dyne. It took all of Ruriko’s strength not to drop her jaw in utter annoyance and embarrassment. “Shiri — what the fuck —”

Her task was simple! Find the child and bring him back to his parents! Why the fuck was Shiri, a fellow Dragon, threatening Dyne? Who is, also, a fellow Dragon? What the fuck is going on here?! Ruriko whipped her attention back to the unknown man with the child, “look, we ain’t gotta fight. Just help me escort this kid back to his parents if ya don’t believe me.”

Darius hovered around the others, hoping for an opportunity to take another step away. He hadn't thought there could be anything scarier than Caio with a cattle prod until Delynn took it and showed what it could do. Flinching away when Caio was struck, Darius had enough of standing near these people. Delynn's just as crazy as the rest of them.

"Fuck, uh, are you ok Snake?" Darius felt a bit triumphant when Caio got shocked, after everything he had done to torture him it was nice seeing him on the receiving end of pain. Of course, Caio was still his boss, and he couldn't show any joy at his boss's pain. He didn't want to sound too sympathetic though, Darius knew Caio wasn't stupid enough to think he cared that much.

While Delynn began to walk along the sidewalk, a disturbed Darius shut the umbrella. He held it out to Caio, staring with weary eyes. "I don't need this anymore, do I? In fact..."
Darius looked back to Ten,

"Maybe I should go help Ten out? While you... look after De-" He hadn't been paying attention to where Delynn was going until the metal grate knocked her down. He flinched again as the metal was yeeted away, and could only be glad that her rampage was directed away from them. Looking back to Orion and Caio, he came up with a plan before Caio could give him another job.
"Yeah, I think you guys could handle her. You said you were immune, right?" The last part was directed to Orion. Honestly, Darius didn't mind Caio giving him something else to do, as long as that something else wasn't going to get him electrocuted.

Dagger watched as the woman shot into the air with…someone in her hands. She still couldn’t perceive who it was, but Akela had lost the scent of blood. Not that it mattered anyway. The rain pouring down from the hole in the roof now would wipe it all clean. She clicked her tongue in annoyance. Holding back like this was not her style, as they say. If she had had her way, there would have been a lot more dead bodies now, and a lot less hassle. At the side, another figure shot towards the hole in the roof, lifted by what seemed to be an assortment of colours.

“Akela.”

At the sound of Dagger’s voice, the giant wolf snarled, lowered its posture and barred the way of the remaining masked concertgoers. As if she were skating across ice, Dagger slipped into their group, took hold of S’s hand in hers, slid behind her, and wrenched her arm upwards behind her back. Her knife was out once more, pressed against the woman’s back. Dagger leaned in behind her, resting her chin on S’s shoulder. “We’re going to have a little talk,” she breathed into S’s ear, then, louder now, spoke to the others. “You’re going to tell me what I want to know. What are you doing here? What are your plans? How many of you are there?”

“Indeed I am,” Elias greeted Dolly with a warm and friendly smile. “Please call me Elijah. It’s only natural to finish the job for one client before starting talks with another. I completely understand and applaud your professionalism, Miss Dolly.” He nodded. “In fact, I’d been looking forward to seeing firsthand how a toymaker like yourself does their work.”

More specifically, he’d been hoping to see how Dolly’s potential was used to add the finer details to her toys…though simply acquiring her memories would get the results faster.

Elias glanced at Ronald. “Would you be so kind as to get us something to drink in the meantime, Ron?”

Plans had been discussed before Dolly’s arrival of course. Vague plans. Backup in case Elias’s usual method of acquiring information didn’t work, really. Elias watched as Ronald passed Dolly, seeming to size the shorter girl up, before exiting the security room to do as asked–locking the door behind him. Anamnesis then turned his attention back to Dolly, casually closed the distance between them, slung his arm over her as if they were best friends, and guided her to the refrigerated room. He opened the door with ease. Of course he did. The door was broken, after all, thus no key needed, though Elias saw no need to bring it up if Dolly didn’t. Cold air wafted into the security room.

Inside the fridge room, the Alice corpse/doll was left exactly as Elias and Ron originally saw it.

Elias looked to Dolly. “If there's anything else you need to complete your task, or if my assistance is needed in any way, please let me know. Money isn't an issue.”

The gentlemanly offer was a stark contrast to the rude intrusion of personal space he'd initiated, but Elias was curious how she’d react to the seemingly innocent gesture. Would she recoil from his touch? Consider it sexual harassment from a stranger? Or would she not care? Either way, his goal was to initiate physical contact and obtain information, so the sooner he finished, the sooner the charade could end. The peaceful method of peeking into her memories would probably no longer be available once she spoke to, and learned the truth from, Acacia anyway. That meant he had until then to get what he wanted from Dolly.

Or...he could use the opportunity to directly speak to Acacia Fox.

Frankly, Elias didn’t mind interacting with either Janay or his sister. Negotiating directly with the masterminds behind Alice's disappearance, the ones leading the chase, seemed more fruitful than negotiating with their associates. Wasted less of his time as well. Still. Better to make a friend then an enemy. As useless as Genevieve's information proved to be in locating Alice, it might lead to something fascinating. Or it might lead him in circles. The fact that he didn't know certainly made the game entertaining. “Truthfully, I’d already taken a peek at the project you were working on for Acacia before you arrived here and I must say, it really is marvelous work. Even without the finishing touches, the resemblance to Alicia Morel is uncanny...”

As he spoke, Elias’s hand–the one connected to the arm slung over Dolly's shoulder–casually (as if by accident) brushed over a strand of straw-colored hair and he activated his potential. Subtly. If all went well, she wouldn’t even know about the intruder in her mindscape. Wouldn’t feel a thing.

“Have you ever met her?”

The question he asked was meant to lead Dolly's mind in a certain direction so as to more easily obtain the memories he wanted, but, truth be told, people who didn’t live under a rock often had a lot of memories to look through. Unless he was given ample time and continuous connection, whether he managed to obtain what he needed was sometimes a matter of chance. In Dolly’s case, Elias was looking for three things: 1) whether she’d seen or interacted with Alice 2) her relationship to Acacia 3) Acacia’s reason for hiring Dolly.

Fortunately, they were alone and there ought be plenty of opportunities to subtly utilize his potential while Dolly worked. Probably. If nothing else, he'd get to add a custom toy to his list of mall purchases...assuming violence wasn't necessary, of course.

HOME COOKIN'

Corvo.png

It was heart-warming in a way, witnessing this motley crew of murderers and criminals band together in the kitchen like one big, somehow functioning family. Perhaps that was the whole point of the Phoenixes and this home cooking. A nice reprieve from the death and crime, letting them all feel just a bit more human. "Don't worry, YY," she called out. "He doesn't bite!" Or so she always liked to say, despite countless 'incidents' that even the no-touchy girl bore witness to.

The moment Yong-Yut moved away, Romero walked in and curled on the spot she once sat.

This oh-so warming atmosphere cut itself short, though, as a yell from the floors above wormed its way into the apartment. The source of the voice was the Phoenix Auvura, that much Corvo recognized. The warning, on the other hand, intrigued Corvo far more; who'd have thought there would be intruders in the Phoenix King's apartment building?

While Lyric darted up the stairs, Corvo's first instinct was to peer out the window. Suzy mentioned a convoy of black SUVs; it couldn't have been a coincidence. And, lo and behold, driving across the streets was exactly that. "I see the SUVs you mentioned, Suzy. I—" Corvo bobbed her head back as three figures flew past the window. A look downward, and she giggled. Whoever they were landed themselves in a parked SUV, speeding away. "And the intruders." She backed off from the window, smiling pleasantly as she took her small oxygen tank from the corner of the room and its connecting hose and pistol. "I'm going to assume they're connected, and that it's not a good thing—and that we want to stop them."

She glanced at her doberman. "Rimani, boy." Romero perked his ears up, remaining still where he lay. "If they're going to retreat past the bridge, then they're taking the long way around. We can maybe cut them if we take a shortcut." Corvo stuck her foot in the entrance door before it closed behind Lyric. "Anyone is welcome to join me." Not even waiting for anyone, though, she left the apartment and began her descent down the stairs.

As soon as Romero was left without his master, he rose and stretched. The doberman darted to one of the dining chairs, taking one of the legs in its mouth with a snapping 'crunch,' and running around the room—with the chair dragging and bouncing beside him like some chew toy.

Corvo and whoever joined hopped into her car, a classic model that probably couldn't take on a group of armored SUVs. Corvo revved up her vehicle, placing a metal roll at her hip. "I have spike strips in the trunk," she clarified as she strapped on the seat belt. "I may be able to lay the spikes down if we get there fast enough... No idea what after, though, if we do get there..." Corvo stepped on the gas pedal, driving off—away from the Tiger convoy and through a shortcut. "So if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears," she said nonchalantly.

Benjamin’s arm, dainty as he was, grew tired after only a few swings of the onslaught against the Tiger who tackled him. He brought the camera down as hard as he could, ramming and ramming the corner of the small device into the larger man’s back, each wack accompanied by a shrill exclamation.

“I JUST. WANT. TO GO. HOME!!” Shiny tears welled in the pale blue eyes of the boy, for something in the back of his mind told him this bout would be his last. He always knew he wasn’t cut out for this kind of work. A dark room in which the only light was the warm glare of his laptop screen and backlit keyboard was a better fit for someone like him—a place where he could write and lament about said writing never being good enough to make the cut.

“I NEVER. WANTED. TO DO. THIS!”

I don’t wanna die…
He grit his teeth, shut his eyes tight, and swung his arm once more, this time aiming for the Tiger’s head, only the impact never came. Something hard coiled around his wrist in mere seconds, then his neck, and before he knew it his arm was out of his command.

When he opened his eyes, he saw who he’d earlier surmised to be the leader of the group, the silver-and-black haired woman. It was her tail that binded his arm to his neck and halted his futile struggle. Benjamin opened his eyes with a pitiful frown and went pale. The camera slipped from his grip, landing in the grass, and its lens began collecting rain.

“Never wanted to do WHAT?” Said Camila as she casually walked towards the now bound man.

“Heh…I think you have a lot of explaining to do”

“I- I-... I’ll tell you anything… Please don’t kill me,” he squeaked.

“A compliant one, aren’t we? What a good boy~” She looked at Matsuda once she got close to both of them.

“Great job finding this little rat, Smog, I hope he didn’t hurt you much” Her words described worry, but her tone only showed playfulness.

Matsuda lifted an eyebrow in surprise at Camila’s entrance, but his eyes never left the man below him. He mumbled under his breath, a bashful pout on his face, “I didn’t really… find him per say…” The dark haired man stretched his shoulder a bit, trying his best to avoid wincing at the ache the stupid camera left him in. He straightened his back, a smug smile on his face. “I’m just awesome enough to have these kinda senses y’know?” He chuckled.

Still straddling their hostage, Matsuda leaned forward to get more into the pink-haired man’s face. He stared unblinkingly at him, trying to search for any kind of reaction as they questioned him.

“Now. Answer the pretty lady’s question before I-” He cut himself off, the metallic rings on his fingers felt tighter as they bunched up in a fist, preparing for a mock-punch.

Benjamin flinched and covered his face with his arms, “I JUST TOLD YOU I WOOOOOULD! PLEASEDON’THURTME!”

Knowing that she had Matsuda’s backup, Camila turned her head towards the house

“Taz! You and Mothman go ahead, see what you can find, we found ourselves a little spy here, we’ll deal with him first!”

Now, her attention was fully back on the bubblegum haired boy, a smirk forming on her face as she began her interrogation.

“Christen Kinslee, who else did he hire? Is there anyone else nearby? Where is he hiding? You’re gonna tell me everything right now, and trust me, I’ll be able to tell if you’re lying or hiding something.”

“He-... He- He- There’s just me here!” Benjamin flailed his hands frantically; though, the one bound by the wrist hardly obeyed. “I’ll answer your questions, just please… Can you… Can you please let me up?”

Matsuda scoffed, rolling his eyes. “You seriously think that’s gonna do anything for you bud? No.” He lifted a knee, stomping his foot beside the photographer’s shoulder. Placing his forearm on his leg, he leaned in even closer. Matsuda grabbed his jaw, his rings harshly pressing into the guy’s skin, and jerked his chin up. “Answer. Now. Matsuda attempted to make his voice as menacing as possible, lowering it and adding a slight growl towards the end. He personally thought it was ridiculous. To add even more amusing theatrics He let billows of smoke escape the corners of his mouth, his nostrils breathing them in then out again, imitating a dragon.

“OKAY, OKAY! OKAY!” Benjamin’s voice fell into a whimper, “I’m sorry. I’ll just talk…”

“Oh how wonderful~ Now speak, and don’t skimp on the details.” The second half of Camila’s line said in a much colder tone.

“I was told to get evidence that Jelica Cross hired the Albino Tigers! Kinslee’s been staying with us! He paid us for protection! If I got pictures of suspected Albino Tigers entering his home and blowing it up, maybe taking some of you out in the process, we could use it against Jelica Cross to put the hurt on Painstake Gaming and dent Silas Knight’s name a little!” Though she told him not to, Benjamin skimped out on a few details.

“Ha! So it turns out Cross was right all along, Christen IS just being a salty little bitch right now, well sadly it seems like his plan won’t work after all, and you ended up getting the short end of the stick” She placed her free hand not holding her umbrella on her cheek. “I almost feel bad for you”

Camila scratched her chin for a few seconds, thinking what was the best way to proceed now.

“I’m feeling generous right now, so if you continue to cooperate, I promise you that you’ll get out of this unscathed, we won’t touch a single strand of your cute hair. But if you try anything funny, we’ll kill you, and if afterwards you try to divulge anything…”

She walked towards the boy, reaching out for the wallet in his pocket, ignoring whatever kind of complaints he would say. Ignoring what miserable pennies rested within it, she reached for his driver’s license. Holding her umbrella awkwardly with her neck and shoulder, she reached for her phone and took a quick photo of all of his personal information.

“Let’s just say, Benjamin Whitlock, that we WILL find you”

Benjamin flinched at the emphasis and squeaked, staring up at the two Tigers, glancing back and forth with wide, watery eyes. Then he nodded—at first lightly, but eventually with more assurance. “O-O-Okay…”

Nodding, Matsuda assumed they got what they needed for now. He grunted, getting out of the man’s lap. He grabbed the guy’s forearm and hauled him up beside himself. Matsuda aimed a smile towards Camila, looking completely out of place and too jovial for the situation. “Well, let's get back to the others eh?” Chuckling, the duo eyed man winked at her, dragging the pink-haired man alongside him like a ragdoll back to the rich prick’s house. He had to say... they worked well together.

... Matsuda didn't want to delve any deeper into that.

"You're pretty weird! It's not that much, I don't think! Well, if it's not money you want, there must be something else, surely? In that case..."

He could feel the income gap between the two. Ah poverty his old friend. He quickly realized there was going to be little getting it through her head. Perhaps it was just better to play like he’d accept it until he could tell her aunt off for letting the little bird fly the coop.

"You can call this whenever you think of something you need! Just tell them that Alice gave you the number, and the Tigers can give you anything!"

He paused in his walk at the mention of the Tigers. Wait what? Were her parents Tigers or something? Actually, if they were high up enough then that made plenty of sense. He almost wanted to grab his phone and call up Minato to come take their lost child back. He pulled out his phone hovering over the name.

"It's just over there!"

No. Pawning the girl off to Minato wouldn’t do shit. Even if Minato was inclined to help, which was 50/50 at best, he’d still promised the girl to take her back. The lingering eyes people kept giving to Alice were also concerning. Bunch fucking creeps. He flipped one off with the audacity to not fuck off with his glare.

"Yoohoo! Alice, right?"

Great another one.

"Indeed, I am?"

“Ay don’t go confirming it when weirdos approach you knowing your name already!”

"I'm Perry! My boyfriend and I are... owing a favor? No... friends of Acacia! Anyway, we're about to leave, and you should start getting ready, dear Alice!"

"Can't I stay a little longer...?”

He unhooked the mic and stand from his back once more. He couldn’t afford to care if Alice disliked violence if this one was bold enough to come with some half-baked story.

"A friend, huh? I'm glad Alice can make friends at even a time like this! Though I'm afraid she has to get going real soon! So if you wouldn't mind...Alice will be coming with us instead."

Friends huh? Well too bad for you I do mind. She clearly doesn’t want to. So piss off I was bringing her to Acacia anyways and I don’t need an entourage of Tigers, thugs, or whatever you are.”

"Alice, It's really you! I'm so glad"

He could feel his irritation rising even more as another stepped up. He should just get Alice out of range and blast them with some painful melodies but there were way too many civilians for that. He somehow doubted he’d get away with lancing the fools through the stomach if the crowds thickened up thanks to the show they were putting on.

"...Is everything okay?"

What you can’t read the room kid? Fuckin’ - Alice you know ‘em? Or is this one another fucking creepy stalker?”

He didn’t care if it was two or three he had to fight but protecting someone was a whole ‘nother ballpark. Hell, he didn’t even know if she was an NP or an HP.

“Listen- You two. I don’t know what you want with Alice and quite frankly I don’t give a crap because you’re already getting on my shit list. If you’re NPs best you scoot off before I wind up having to break your arms accidentally. And if you’re HPS I’m going to do it on purpose.”

He’d almost expected the lashing out. Still even though he might be prepared for an idea of a strike he couldn’t damn well fake being uneffected by the volts of electricity going through him. “Shuttup you fucker. I don’t need to hear your groveling on top of it all.”

He got his bearings back looking at the others before searching out for where Delynn scurried away to. He got his answer as a metal grate was kicked into the air. He gave a low whistle of appreciation as he watched her go off half mad into the fray. This was going to get interesting, he kicked up the cattle prod forgotten on the the floor and snached it out of the air before tossing it at Darius.

Someone flew in on a…mic stand…it looked like, landing between Sabrina and her target, thus causing the former to halt in her tracks, knuckles still encased in her palm and head tilted in curiosity. A human…no HP…wearing glasses and violet colored hair. Around the lavender-haired woman random objects floated, donned in multiple colors of which Sabrina did not know the meaning or purpose…but that was nothing new. New Oasis was a hubbub of strange people with all sorts of strange abilities she did not know–most notably the ones in gangs.

Though not always, such as the case with N.

Sabrina eyed the army of animated trinkets for a moment before her attention returned to a pair of golden orbs behind red-framed glasses, meeting intensity with intensity. Sparks flew, both figuratively and literally (at least from Sabrina’s side), granted not very far from the dark haired woman’s body. Not without a suitable conductor. “Step aside. I have no qualms with you.”

Fruitless words, she supposed, given the stubbornness she’d seen in the other’s eyes, but Sabrina wouldn’t be faulted for not giving the stranger, who she did not have an issue with, a chance to stand down. “Who are you even? A friend of his?” She tossed her head in N’s direction as she spoke, though her eyes were locked on the person with the parrot. They were an HP, after all, therefore dangerous, whether they had training or not. Then again, so was N. Sabrina didn’t think she would lose if they fought, but she knew that his potential let him ‘disappear’ from her attention and she wouldn’t put it past him to shank her when she wasn’t looking…especially if she were dealing with another HP.

Life or death battles were something Sabrina had become intimately familiar with since joining the Sable Serpents.

Bouncing on her feet like an energizer bunny, the dark-haired woman waited for the newcomer’s reply, barely holding back all the energy that stimulated her body, charging it for battle. One sign of refusal. One shake of the head was all it would take for Sabrina to consider it a willingness to fight; To let loose all the stress that she’d been building up since she’d stepped foot in Cloudwalk Stadium and charge forth at her opponents. You’d think all the alcohol she’d consumed would have dulled her senses, but no. Sabrina’s mind had never been clearer. All the unnecessary thoughts were gone. All her inhibitions. Sabrina knew what she wanted. What she loved.

Music.

Noise.

Sabrina liked things loud and with the raindrops providing the rhythm, as well her own potential providing the crackling vibrations, Sabrina had never felt more alive. She licked her lips, her eyes alight with anticipation. Well?

Darius dropped the umbrella to the ground as the cattle prod came his way. He caught it awkwardly in his arms but adjusted quickly. He held it out, scared to do anything with it, and not too certain how it worked. Nevertheless, it's not like he could protest now, he'd talked back enough. And Caio was right, Ten was in the middle of the crowd that Delynn was charging.

"I'm not chickening out, I just..." Darius didn't have a better explanation. He did want to chicken out. "I got it." Making his way towards the crowd, he wanted to find Ten before the crowd became too panicked to see through.

"TEN?"

Of course, he had to keep an eye on Delynn as well, though he wasn't sure when would be the right time to give her a "jumpstart". And if she was going to react the same way she did when Caio offered the prod to her, he wasn't sure if he even wanted to try.

"All good, Delynn?" Best to at least appear as though he was looking out for her. He made a note to keep the prod out of her reach, keeping a few paces away.

Juzu's eyebrow arched higher and higher as Kisara's diatribe went on. Loudmouth. Couldn't keep it shut. The red gem.

Ah. A bead of sweat rolled down Juzu's forehead. Her eyes darted up into her head, briefly flicking through her collection of memories of the last few days past, until they caught onto one and a lightbulb of recognition lit up in her head.

"Right..." Juzu started to say... Something, just as Yuto make his presence known. Instead of uttering a word she, instead, lept out of her skin, and almost directly off of the balcony he had now cornered her on. She yelped, loudly, and clattered against the railing. Her breathing turned ragged, her eyes bulged out of their sockets, and then she just barely managed to stammer out another few words.

"R-right..." Juzu stammered, propping herself up against the railing. "Not uh- Not on the menu buddy, sorry." The more she spoke, the more of her composure returned, though there was still an inch that remained astray. A touch of nervousness that hadn't been there before.

"So, uh, sister, that red stone you were chatting about- I think I overhead something of the same thing? From the guards, right?" She eyed both of the trespassers warily. "I think they said something about the chief's office?" She tried to shift just a little bit further away from Yuto. "Y-you didn't hear that from me though, okay?"

SERPENT'S

Phoenixes Arc 2: Scene 2 [The Bounty]
LOCATION:
Dilapidated Slums, North District
PARTICIPANTS:
Hide, Mimi, Sang-Cheol
THE BOUNTY
The house itself seemed somehow larger on the inside. It offered plenty of space for Hide and Sang-Cheol to duke it out to their hearts’ content. That spacious arena, littered with the discarded trappings of a life once-lived, buckled beneath the heart of their clash, as white-hair met dark, as Phoenix and Serpent collided. The racket they made was enough to wake the restless dead. Though, lucky for them, it seemed that the house was well and truly deserted, as no alarms were raised, no guard was summoned, in response to their horseplay.

That is, until one of the boys threw the other (or both threw themselves) against a nearby crumbling wall and ended up falling through it. Almost immediately, the atmosphere changed. For one, the cold light of a fluorescent overhead lamp flooded into the dull, dank corpse of a house from out of that freshly opened hole in the wall. The floors, for another, were a tapestry of rotting wooden planks on one side of the divide, but on the other, sterile tile checker-boarded, alternating gray-and-white, far into the distance.

But, perhaps, the most jarring difference between one side of the crumbling wall, which seemed to crumble more by the moment, and the other was that this new side that Sang-Cheol and Hide’s roughhousing had revealed, was occupied.

The walls of this new room were lined with a single-row of man-shaped tubes, or perhaps pods, whose glassy surfaces were all frosted over with a layer of rime. Hoses carrying coolant snaked from one to the next, to the next. And on, and on, and on it went… In the nearest pods, the vaguely man-shaped silhouettes of their contents were somewhat visible. But they were hardly the most pressing concern, in the face of the duo of very-much-alive (or at least, life-like) figures who stood before this tenuous-at-best Serpent-and-Phoenix alliance. One figure, a man dressed in gray, with gray hair, sporting a pair white hospital gloves and a surgical mask to match, peered bemusedly at the newcomers to his little operation.

”Oh, my… Visitors!”

The other figure, whose slumped figure evoked more puppet-than-person, turned slack-jawed and dead-eyed to stare out at nothing.

D0649B08-B24D-4B09-9D27-0FA82E0383D5.jpeg
”Nn…”

”Tut-tut, 043. Where are your manners? Make our new guests feel at home.” Said the gray man. And as he did, the woman with the dead eyes pulled a wicked dagger out of nothing and lurched toward the nearest Phoenix, or Serpent, doing as her master bade her.

”Uh…”

Meanwhile, the cigarette that Sang-Cheol had discarded into the heap of trash in the corner of the room smoldered quietly, as the fire creeped along the wall’s edge.

Some famous person once said, falling's just another way to fly. Unless they meant both were equally terrible situations to find oneself in, Isobel had to disagree. For one, whoever said that had clearly never experienced free-falling from a twenty-story building. Either that or they had completely and utterly lost their mind.

With her heart in her throat, Isobel scrambled frantically in mid-air to right herself, all while fully aware of the fast-approaching concrete pavement below. Reaching out towards the ladder Callahan had set up along the side of the building, she struggled to inch herself closer. When her hand finally found purchase on one of the rungs, her fall came to an abrupt and violent halt that slammed her body into the brick wall and nearly tore her arm out of its socket.

Unfortunately, just when she thought she had a moment to catch her breath, she felt an invisible force pull her up once more like a puppet on strings. Ezra. Feet coming to touch the edge of Alex's windowsill, she saw Callahan's semi-conscious and bleeding form pulled into Ezra's arm which was also bleeding. The two javelins which had been poised above Alex's head were now embedded in the wall next to the window.

He'd hurt her team. Isobel felt an unexplainable bitterness swell in her heart but before she could do anything else Ezra had already healed both himself and Callahan and was now pulling them towards the getaway car. As they all piled into the sleek, black, car that was totally not conspicuous at all in broad daylight, Isobel pulled out her phone and quickly typed a message to Markus, Welsha, and Ernesto. "We have the claw. Headin-" The car suddenly swerved around a corner causing her to send the message prematurely before the device slipped out of her grasp and disappeared under the car seat.

Leaning over and shoving an arm into the space beneath, Isobel swept her hand blindly around to no avail. Shit. She didn't have the capacity to deal with this now. Welsha and Ernesto would have seen them make their escape and were savvy enough to take care of themselves. Markus on the other hand would just have to make some assumptions about what she had been trying to say although she guessed simply knowing they had the claw would probably satisfy him.

Focusing on the bridge that connected the South to the West, Isobel sought out the shortest route that would get them there. In her mind's eye, she saw the faint colored lines that told her where they needed to go. Without warning, she reached over to Ezra, grabbed the steering wheel, and turned the car down a junk-filled alley that was barely wide enough to let them pass.

They caught the tiniest bit of what one of the Dragons had whispered before sinking deeper into the crowd, but they brushed it off. Something about a trio? And someone named Carlyn? Ten had no idea about that, and if they were told, they didn't remember. They’d mention it later, they supposed.

Having tagged the last of the Dragons they had tried their best to remember, they pushed themselves back into the ground and moved to the middle of the crowd. Popping back up when no one was looking, they planted their feet and pulled their phone out of their pocket. They scanned the few people around them before looking at said phone. Don’t be suspicious, don’t be suspicious~ played in their thoughts. Better look busy for a moment. They opened a messaging app to remember a notification they had gotten a week before from their friend, Pengfei! He had completed the round of billiards, and had also sent them a picture of him in some.. place. Ten didn’t recognize it, but they didn’t care. They reacted to the pic with a heart before playing the next round of billiards. A few seconds after, they moved out of the messaging app to the camera.

Holding the phone up to the sky, they took a picture of the pretty jets coloring the sky in beautiful colors and lights. Back to the messaging app, they sent it to Peyton along with the caption,

penguin~ btw im a serpent now! look at all the pretty colorrrssssss

Immediately after they had sent that, their phone turned off by itself, abruptly stopping the music playing into their ears and preventing them from checking anything else. They gave it an annoyed expression, before their attention was turned to the once-screaming electrical… mess they could barely see through the crowd that was charging towards the Dragons behind them. “Ooh~!- huh?”

They heard Dairy’s voice over the crowd. Well, it wouldn’t be a good idea to stay in the crowd with the ball of electricity speeding towards the people with the anger of a thousand suns. Oh, but it’d be fun~! “I’m f- f- f- f- I’m- I’m f- I’m fine!” they yelled back to the call, waving it off with one of their hands, though they weren't sure Darius would've heard them. Oh well, doesn't matter.

Their form shifted and pressed against the earth once again, moving to the middle of the first group they tagged. They suddenly appeared from the ground, giving the group a peace sign. “Hiii~!” The arm they gestured with moved upwards and they rammed quickly to the side, elbowing a brunette Dragon in the gut. “Keep on y- keep o- keep on your- keep- keep on your t- t- toes, w-wyrms!! Hehehe, wyr- wyrms. Like- like- like- like- like worms! I’m— call- I’m calling you worms. Do you- do you- do- do- do yo- do you get it? You get it,” they nodded, slamming into another Dragon mid-sentence. They weren’t intending on doing too much damage, being Ten, but Ten did intend on distracting them for the few seconds until Delynn ran into them. It was the least they could do, you know? It’d be a fun surprise for the Dragons.

"So wha- what's th- so what's this about a- a- a uh- a Car- a Carlyn?"

Boltius, Hector, Milo
THE RECRUIT
Milo was tallying up what little tricks of his remained. There weren’t many. Perhaps he’d miscalculated. Perhaps he’d been overconfident. The gangsters he’d fought up until now had done a poor job of preparing him to fight someone like Hector. Was the gap between the rank-and-file and the real heavy hitters truly this wide? If that were true, then perhaps Milo’s approach would need to change. That is, if he escaped this fight with his life.

Suddenly Milo felt the almost irresistible urge to smile. Perhaps he was concussed. Perhaps he’d hit his head harder than he’d realized After all, Milo hadn’t even paid the motorcade any of the attention it was due. A line of unmarked SUVs peeling down a low-traffic road in the middle of the day, all driving toward the Phoenix King’s nest? Even a fo— even Boltius had recognized that something about that sight rang false. All signs pointed to hostile gang activity. After all, even if the Phoenixes ruled the South, they were not the only threat that stalked this city.

Boltius. Milo tried to grab hold of his attention, to no avail as he shouted—as he did—at Hector. Milo could feel his moment slipping away, like sand though his fingertips. He thought he might let it. The nucleus of a new plan had started to germinate inside of his mind. There was more than one way to pluck a bird’s feathers, skin a cat, hunt a dragon…

Hector was speaking to Milo, now. He tensed without meaning to, his body anticipating a blow that did not fall, that would not fall. Not today, anyway. Not that Milo ever planned to give him the chance again. If there was anything good that Milo could think to say about Hector in that moment, it was this: at the very least, he’s not so much of a warmongering asshole that he couldn’t still make the rational decision. That, too, was good to know. Maybe reason would prevail after all.

Milo only nodded. Hector had to go. Milo understood that. He wasn’t about to strike out at him while his back was turned… At least, not here, not now. Besides, Milo’s new plan was gestating nicely, as the gears of his mind turned and the mechanism clicked into place.

But still, there was one more loose thread that Milo wanted to tug, albeit hesitantly. As the Phoenixes rolled out, headed toward whatever situation awaited them at the King’s flat, Milo lingered on the sidelines, watching. Until, by some stroke of madness, his body pitched forward on its own, his hand outstretched.

"… BOLT!" But as soon as he tried to reach for it, the vision faded, of a pair of boys skipping rocks by the river… And so too did his voice, as the word that dangled on the tip of his tongue was left unspoken.

… Wait.

Hitoshi was cradling his precious bounty of all sorts of drugs in his arms as he followed Reika and Charlie as they continued further into the mall. He was even patting the box as if it were a baby, though given his own relationship with such things it might as well be one to him, and had a skip to his step. The confectioners shop was next on their destination as Hitoshi simply perused the stock but didn't show any particular interest in any of them. These kinds of things were his jam. The only candy he liked was *nose candy*. Out of respect of Reika's generosity however, he just picked a standard small basked of chocolate covered strawberries that seemed to be the stand's specialty.

What did come as a surprise was the sudden announcement by Reika that the Serpent King was also in the mall, which got Hitoshi to tilt his head forwards for his sunglasses to lower slightly. Before he commented however, Charlie excused himself to seemingly speak with someone he knows nearby as he also began to carry Charlie's haul from today's shopping so far. Hitoshi wobbled a bit as he got used to the new weight and the amount of things he was carrying now but chuckled. "Alright, you better be quick! I'm old *and* my back hurts!" he spoke in a joking manner before returning his attention to Reika.

"What's the Serpent King doing around here?" he then asked Reika, with some caution. "Think they're up to something?"

It was only after her proclamation that Suzerain noticed the sticky feeling on her skin and the white streaks down the front of her jacket. She immediately felt the urge to bolt away, drive home, seize another bottle of sunscreen (or two) and then rejoin the Phoenix family dinner. There wasn’t any objective reason behind her insistence on slathering this particular brand of substandard sunscreen, but she didn’t care much for objective reasons when it came to her preferences.

Eying the way the owner of the apartment domineeringly marched over wielding a towel and spray bottle, she stiffened and forced herself not to fidget in place. Between the paradoxically long and short seconds she had until the impact hit, she wondered if she should escape out the window. She wondered if she could escape out the window. She slowly, ever so slowly, rotated in that direction. And took two steps.

Of course, no matter how many mental stimulations she ran through her mind, the rookie didn't make a physical attempt at escaping her fate. She was more than 75% certain that Lyric would arrive brandishing her weapons of choice faster than she could leap out the window, and though such chances typically didn’t stop her, it was common courtesy to stay until a small-scale event like a gang gathering was over—or so Posia declared.

In the middle of her longingly staring at the exit a hop and step away—never mind that the door was directly to her back—textured cotton hit her face and scrubbed carelessly at the remaining white splotches on her face. Wrenching her eyes shut, she held her breath until it left. And as if removing her armour against the (nonexistent) sun wasn’t enough, her warning of the vehicle situation was met with disbelief. Suzerain had no chance to explain before the phoenix leader’s unwarranted chiding about her choice in conversation topics was cut off.

The moment a voice calling thief sounded from the floor above, Lyric seemed to whirl into motion. Yelling at her domesticated lions to protect an “Amelie”, she blurred up the stairs with a vengeance. By the time the thought of who exactly Amelie was had a chance to sink in, her attention was promptly yanked away by a cadre of three flying past the 18th floor window. She barely registered Corvo uttering something about “SUVs” and “Suzy”—a moment of confusion flashed through her preoccupied brain until the background processes stamped the label of “Suzy” on herself—and automatically replied with an intelligent, insightful
“Yes.”

She paused. Her mind rewound the tape of her memories.

“—we want to stop them.”

“Yes.”

The echo of her own agreement reverberated through her head as she clutched the handle of her un-gifted umbrella. She wanted to grab her head instead. The rookie stood in a daze as delusions of answering the opposite of the dreaded y-word occupied her mental faculties. The bombardment of “what if”s only ended after Corvo let herself out of the residence, the sound of the shutting door snapping her out of her stupor.

Suzerain glanced around the suddenly cozier entrance hall and hesitated. The image of her sister’s dissatisfied gaze sent her impulses to linger to a swift death. She mouthed a quick hope for her sponsor—may his food be ever tasty and his combination concepts be ever creative—and anybody else to save her before she was offed and a lengthier wish for Symposia to remove some of her many principles when the day was finally over. She estimated a 99% chance of it being a long one.

Being that there was a high possibility of expiry with a single multipurpose shanker in hand, she painfully decided her phone needed to go. She hadn’t asked for permission to apply any of Lyric’s household items to her combinations, so the merging fanatic could unfortunately only make do with what was with her. Flinging open the door for the second time within minutes, she dashed after Corvo’s vanished figure, springing over multiple steps to catch up. In her ungloved hands, a Jokia phone and a brilliantly coloured umbrella twisted and melted together.

Bands of glass and metal wove in and out with spreading spirals of solid pigments, and halfway down the building, concrete shapes had started to form. Rhomboid, hexagonal and triangular prisms of tinted glass backed by panes of a silvery alloy congregated around a cluster of unlit LEDs, rearranging their positions as they pleased. The moment her feet touched the ground floor, the result of her fusion had taken the appearance of a mirrored polyhedron. Its creator had no mind to look at her prismatic creation though, focusing entirely on sprinting the last distance to Corvo’s elderly car.

“I’m… here,”
Suzerain huffed as she clambered into the shotgun seat of the car. She had no idea where “there” was, but she assumed Corvo knew where she was travelling to and didn’t object. Waving the spherical object with a diameter wider than her torso, she said,
“I merged something to blind or generate similar windshield glare. Possibly. Maybe.”

TL;DR:
Suzerain gets wiped, doesn't escape out the window, sees people escaping out the window, agrees to help Corvo, regrets, fuses her phone and umbrella into ???, enters Corvocar.

HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Dolly nodded quietly as Elias spoke and only spared the passing Ronald an unremarkable glance; she was used to the weird looks. What she wasn't used to was Elias' sudden arm around her shoulder, making the girl tense up briefly. It took every fiber of her being to keep quiet, though, for sake of not putting off her possible customer. Her inaudible grumbles lasted her until his offer for any assistance. Dolly shook her head. "That won't be necessary..."

Some more small talk (which she only replied to with silence) before he finally let go. She did not notice his hand graze against her hair.

Now able to breathe easier, Dolly moved towards the doll of Alice. "I have met her... she's a sweet girl..." Not that Elias needed to hear that from her mouth. Having used his Potential on her, he would have found out that Dolly was allowed to take several pictures of Alice in the days prior with her sitting still—hence the photographs of Alice on the counter. Dolly also definitely conversed with Acacia on many occasions, only one of which making its way to Elias: Acacia telling her that she'd need a "doll" of Janay if they had time.

From the bag, Dolly took a small bottle of nail polish, placing her other hand above Alice's eyes. Her pupils shined just a bit more. "It was a minor detail... The glossing on the eyes was a bit dull, and it was bothering me... but it's done now..."

Dolly turned to look up at Elias. "I can siphon 'properties' between things or people... or from myself to others..." she motioned to herself and her physical state of being, "and lets me rejuvenate them..." She moved to the counter, gathering the pictures of the graves and other content. Dolly motioned her head to the doll on the table. "This was a girl I had people dig up from the cemetery... Looked close enough to Alice... I siphoned from myself to make her look... less decomposed... Then detailed her a little more..."

She took the flip phone from her pocket, slowly tapping in Acacia's phone number. "I'm gonna call her now... Anything else you want to know...?"

Instead of any agitated response to Jackson's willingness to fight back, Perry only looked... confused. He was a Tiger dispatched to find Alice, surely...? The quiet boy in the back looked away. Lana, we're going to need you over here...

Perry opened his mouth to speak up until another boy ran over, calling for Alice. Who even was he? Unlike Jackson here, he didn't give off serious vibes—not with the way he approached her. There was too much doubt for Malakai's liking...

Alice gasped, putting her hands to her cheeks in astonishment. "Charlie!" Brushing past everyone, she instinctively drew closer to him with a much more cheerful expression. "I worried I wouldn't ever see you again! I honestly did not think about getting a way to contact you again..." As Jackson spat his piece, she quickly spun to him. "It's fine! I know Charlie! He's my friend!" Alice turned again, hands behind herself and smiling back up at Charlie. "I'm sorry about that, we're a bit on edge because there were some people following us earlier."

Perry shifted his gaze as he said that. At the rate things were going, with Alice being more familiar with these two than him (who she hadn't even seen until now), he wasn't sure how quickly he could get her to safety. Could the blondie really be taking her to Acacia? Or was he manipulating Alice to get to her and strike down the person protecting her from the horrid gang. Maybe Lana could do something when she got here, but... "Aside from the prior things we just resolved, I think we're just peachy!" Perry remarked, still maintaining his cheerful demeanor. "As for you, blondie, I hate to say it but you might be sticking your nose in something that's bigger than you think it is!"

Alice tilted her head. "But all he's doing is taking me to Acacia?"

Perry chuckled, rubbing the back of his head. Further back, the other boy rubbed his temples. He never got the talking quite right...

"WHAT. THE FUCK!" The receptionist screeched, huddled beneath her desk and gasping for breath. She recognized those bullets, or rather, the insane woman that was firing them. Any self-respecting business owner under the wing of the Dragons did. The one Dragon where, no, their appearance did not mean that somebody was here to clean things up, and, in fact, things were about to get a lot messier.

"What in the peach-picklin' tarnation is going on in here!?" A second yell came, this time possessed by Paul who, flanked by Steve, had just burst through the front doors.

"Aw, hell." Steve jogged alongside him. "I knew we shoulda stopped that freaky broad while he had the chance!" Both of them had a mixed look of panic and exasperation on their faces that could be gleaned even through their thick, reflective sunglasses. The two of them looked to each other, and then to Meirin, the only one of the gaggle of Dragons whom commanded an inch of respect at the establishment, and the only reason they hadn't spear tackled Reveler to the ground.

"Uh, don't mean to be rude Miss Mei, but this is not the kind of penetration that this establishment was intended for." One of the two, it hardly mattered at this point, gestured at the stray bullets that had missed Meirin's giant hand. "If we could kindly ask your friend there to wait outside, that would be very, very preferable to the alternative." The one that wasn't talking flexed his arm, and kissed it.

"Gun for gun, if you know what I mean."

Anna, meanwhile, had assumed just about the same position as the receptionist. Her blood was racing, and what had previously been mostly pure exasperation, had transformed into hot-blooded panic, tempered only by the fact that the shooting had stopped not long after it started. She'd screamed, quietly, the moment that the blonde woman's barrel had blazed to life, and then immediately started wondering just how exactly that things only managed to go from good to bad this quickly.

"Velvet...?" Anna mumbled under her breath, while still clasping her head. She was already having enough trouble processing the Dragons' bullet-laced arrival, let alone Tri's usual antics. Her head was spinning, and she felt dazed, but she still needed to keep it in the game. She pulled her hand out of Tri's grasp. This was already bad. She needed to do something to keep the Dragons out of the other team's hair.

"I, um-" She groped about her mind for the combination of words that'd get her out of this situation. She wasn't very good at improvisation, though. She needed to think like somebody who was. She needed to think like Tri.

"How uh-" Her mouth was moving on its own. "H-how about I show you? Baby? Cakes?" She already regreted this. "W-why we're here, I uh- I mean." Anna's eyes darted between Tri and the Dragons, looking for some sort of approval, forgetting the fact that she, as always, was wearing a mask. In her pocket, she fumbled about with her phone, punching in as clear a message as she could to the other Serpents without taking it out of her pocket for the Dragons to see.

At Suzerain’s declaration of what she had seen, Yong-Yut’s first instinct was to look out the window, but she stopped in her tracks to the raised voice of Auvura a few floors above. Lyric had quickly left the room, yelling a command to the big cats, and Yong-Yut turned to the window once again. Instead of seeing outside the window, however, she had only seen the back of Corvo’s head, who had the exact same impulse as Yong-Yut and reached the window before she could.

"I see the SUVs you mentioned, Suzy. I— ... And the intruders. I'm going to assume they're connected, and that it's not a good thing—and that we want to stop them."

Yong-Yut gave a hum to Corvo’s observations. They were probably, definitely right about that. But were the ones Corvo saw the only ones, though?

As she debated the existence of any intruders left behind, Yong-Yut’s eyes moved over to Vulken, and then straight past him, towards the kitchen.

Ah. Amelie.

Taking a glance back to Corvo as she announced her departure, Yong-Yut moved past Vulken and made her way back into the kitchen, over to the young girl surrounded by the few big cats. Crouching down beside them, she gave the girl a thumbs up. “If you’d like to know, I can assure you you’re going to be okay. Corvo’s just confirmed that the intruders left the building. You may or may not end up being alone here, though, because there are important things to attend to, but you’ll still have these three,” she assured Amelie, placing a hand onto one of the lions. “Okay?"

She wasn’t entirely sure about anything she just said, but she didn’t know what everyone else was going to do, and it was good to reassure her. At the very least, Yong-Yut was confident Amelie was going to be safe.

Standing up, she turned towards the living room, about to leave before Romero drove straight into her legs. “Ow, ow, ow,—” she turned around to Romero and crouched down. Her legs stung from the impact. “Hey, give me that. That’s not a toy.” They took the chair from him, brows furrowing. Grabbing some unused pork —they figured it wouldn’t be missed too badly— they leaned over to give a tiny bit to Romero. They placed their hand onto the doberman’s head, giving it light scratches.

After a solid... way too long moment of just interacting with Romero, they waved goodbye to Amelie and went back into the other room. The room was now missing Suzerain, who Yong-Yut could only assume went down to follow Corvo in the time it took for Yong-Yut to talk to both Amelie and Romero.

She gently grasped her own arms, gazing out the window. She could see Corvo already getting into the car and Suzerain sprinting across the lot to it. She probably wouldn’t get all the way down the building in time to reach them should she take the stairs. In fact, how did they get down so fast?

Slightly turning her head to the side, she informed whoever was listening, “I’m going to jump out the window.”

Opening the window, she scanned the area. Though the wind from the altitude pushing her hair into her face was particularly distracting, she managed to single out a few swingable points outside. They leaned back inside and took off the leg warmers occupying her legs, sliding them onto her arms instead. They held their arm out the window towards a spot on a nearby balcony’s railing, having the fabric from the, well, arm warmers now, pull and stretch towards it. As the cloth moved, she watched as the car started moving and drove onto the road.

Once she felt the tug of the fabric on her arms wrapping around the railing post, she slunk out of the window and straightened herself so she was upright. As she fell, she kept her eyes on the next point she planned to grab onto.

She braced her arm against the arm warmer, piercing the air until the fabric was taut. They flung themself upwards across the street, eyes moving to Corvo’s car which was now a ways in front of her. Damn, they’re fast. She nodded towards the car, though she figured no one would see it. Or, that’s what she thought, before she watched Corvo’s car slow down to catch her.

Their other arm warmer stretched towards another balcony much further down and on the other side of the road from the first one. Letting go of the first railing they grabbed onto, they quickly reigned the fabric in, arching through the air towards the balcony and planting her feet on the wall below it, cracks forming on the spot she landed on. They made a break for it, running across the building with only the cloth supporting her. Once she reached the edge, she let go of the post, bounding off the building in a literal leap of faith.

In mid-air she stabilized herself, tensing up her arms in the cloth. The arm warmers stretched out towards Corvo’s vehicle and settled on the roof, slowing down her descent onto the car. Once she placed her feet on the roof —leaving a dent on the already old car— she crouched and leaned over the side. She knocked gently on the window, prompting Corvo to open it.

Once the window was open, they slid into the backseat of the car, taking a deep breath. “Hello Corvo, Suzerain. Sorry if I missed anything. Your roof has a new dent, Corvo. You’re lucky I didn’t destroy it.”

Yong-Yut crossed her legs, wrapping her hands around her feet. “Something about cutting them off, yes? What- What are you holding,” she squinted at the item in Suzerain's hands, the question seeming more like a demand. They shook their head and looked to Corvo. “Whatever. Are we cutting them off in the district, or are we going past the bridge?”

While charlie was certainly caught off guard by the sudden combative attitude of the blonde guy next to her, Charlie was just really happy knowing that Alice was feeling the same, looks like it wasn't just him that wanted to stay in contact!

"Sorry if I made you feel suspicious, I just wanted to talk to Alice...Wait, what do you mean Followed"

He turned his face to the colorful guy who was now speaking once again. It was clear from his tone that they were up to no good, they insisted on taking Alice, and they were willing to use force if necessary. Charlie took one step forward towards the suspicious boy.

"I'm sorry but, for what I'm hearing they're already heading there anyways, so if she says no, then you should stop" He said in a calm yet firm voice. Normally one would think this is all coming from a misunderstanding, given both parties seemed to have the same goal. But if Charlie learned anything by being surrounded by gangsters for over a year now, it was to detect someone's intent, and this guy was up to no good.

Charlie certainly didn't want to start a fight right now. He didn't want to put either Alice or the many civilians around in danger, and he still had to get back to Reika and Hitoshi as soon as possible...But he would not doubt to reach for his knuckle dusters if he felt it was necessary.

Sonnet (Dante) | East | Platinum Rabbit

She hadn't been expecting that.

There were two things in fact, that he hadn't been entirely expecting.

First was the awareness, the newfound knowledge that Peyton was a former Serpent- an Ex-gang member based off the manner in which he addressed Tri. The Dragon's inviting a Serpent? Didn't Mei say to get into the Dragons they had a invitation process? The idea that Peyton was a Serpent, now a Dragon- suggested something more. It made him very curious, but of course now wasn't the time for that.

It didn't surprise him really that something like this was possible though. Former members of another gang were bound to be allowed entrée in another if they proved their loyalties to a degree and checked out enough for that gang's qualifications. The Serpents were the exact opposite of the Dragons though, the fact he knew Tri enough to call him Uncle, given what he'd been hearing recently as the Jack's fame was picking up- was something of note to him.

Shifting his attention to watch Tri's response, it was Reveler who stole his attention away. That was the second thing he hadn't been expecting.

He'd known Reveler to be insatiably curious from the way she'd been tailing him in the past, to her behavior today- she was also dangerously impulsive, no doubt, if what she did just now didn't spell all of that out clearly enough. This- whipping out her gun, firing haphazardly despite a civie supposed to be under their protection being there also, HP or not- was just another sign of that recklessness. Luckily Meirin had been quick on the draw to prevent the unnecessary death.

And from the receptionist's shriek it was just another sign that she was still alive.

All while Tri was getting away with his goat masked 'lover'.

At least the receptionist was still alive. That was probably the only real plus side to what had just transpired. That and Tri and the other Serpent not attacking them outright.

What a day.

And it was only getting better it seemed, as the two security guards that had been standing outside, now came in, seeing the situation- and looking quite fairly, a little miffed as they moved towards Meirin in unison. While they did that, Dante noticed the masked Serpent- the one he had initially been eyeballing, was fidgeting with something while cautiously looking their way (at least that's what he assumed she was doing given she couldn't actually see the Serpent's eyes).

That's when it clicked.

Why didn't Tri bring more of his gang members with him. Why weren't they all here, starting a ruckus?

The other floors; of course!

Dante didn't hesitate. The second the two guards began talking to Mei about Reveler's rather brutal entrance, Dante tapped Peyton and made a come-hither motion with her hand. Walking past Mei while she dealt with the guards, Dante winked at her in a passing sign. "See you in a bit dear. I'm borrowing Pey for a bit of fun. Revie- stay out of trouble." One tail swished touching Peyton's back- giving him a gentle push to get moving faster before the two Serpents noticed that some of the Dragon's were leaving.

"Boys, sorry to interrupt here- but I was planning on letting Mei and Revie handle things here while I take Pey upstairs with me- any chance you could--"

"Sorry, can't do that."

Dante blinked. Mildly surprised. "Pardon?"

"We know Mei, not you. And honestly we can't have you guys running around, causing a ruckus like she just did. It's a business, not a circus." Came the blunt reply.

Her only response to that was a very light, huh. Tails curling in a relaxed manner.

Guess this means not even high-run businesses bend over backwards in a district run by Dragons. Good to know, I suppose. Which probably means if Mei hadn't been able to stop Reveler's stunt in time...

She sighed. "Well that just makes all of this more complicated. So I can't move through the building without someone of notice accompanying me? Not even a Dragon that isn't Mei?" The guards nodded. "Great", to which the tone said otherwise.

Fighting Tri was not something she wanted to do. Not because she cared, but because it was merely a waste of time. If their objective was to ensure Jun was safe, as well as help the Rabbit clear these guys out without too much bloodshed or mayhem that would in turn affect the business, then starting a serious fight here was probably the last thing they needed or wanted. Especially with civies around in the building- on a afternoon, where no doubt, business was being conducted all over the building.

The last thing Dante wanted was another incident like the bowling alley anyway.

The smell from the sewer pipeline was still there and still being fixed. Been there twice since that place had collapsed. Gone as himself. Not the fashionable, styling, exceptionally confident person he was- but as the person that knew what it was like to tough it out in the streets. A far cry to what he portrayed in the Tigers, he hadn't gone with styling pricey clothes or makeup- it'd been au naturelle. With torn up, weathered clothes, covered in dust stains- messy hair that looked like he'd woken up and had been attacked by a birds- and oil stain smudges on his face and clothes, as well as his hands to complete the ensemble of a mechanic.

Spent multiple hours for multiple days, doing volunteer work, just to observe the scene.

There were a lot of families that had swung by in the first few days since the collapse, mourning lost ones. Even those teens he'd saved had been there with their own relatives. Trying to comfort some of the ones that had lost someone precious in their lives.

A slow exhale left Sonnet's nostrils, and the golden eyes glanced in Tri and masked Serpent's direction.

The Rabbit collapsing like Mach Sling was the worst case scenario and Dante doubted it would ever reach that point before other Dragons started heading in their direction. But...it didn't hurt to minimize the players in a fight to further limit the overall collateral damage.

"I suppose I'll just have a look around outside then" She stated. Glancing at both security guards to see if there would be any disapproval.

Then again it was fair play if they said no. There were a lot of things to factor. From a logical standpoint it made sense to deny anything she asked of them or wanted to do. She wasn't a Dragon, and this wasn't her business. The discussion at the Palace had made it quite clear where she stood as a civie and under any other circumstance, it'd be exceptionally odd for a civie to be getting involved in Dragon affairs. And even if she were a Dragon, Dante could tell there were different levels of respect being owed from how the two guards addressed Mei to the rest of them. Made sense given Mei's status. Really just told Dante that she had to watch what they did since whatever passes they would grant Mei and her sister, wouldn't extend to them by association even if some of them were Dragons.

Which brought up the next point. Faster than one would expect, one of Sonnet's tails grabbed Reveler by the wrist before she could move. Firm grip, harder than it looked actually from the feel of it. The grip was not tight but a powerful hold for something that looked so flat and looked like it could barely even hold a cup, let alone shift over and over to reset the grip on someone's arm. "Revie," Dante approached her. "I know we just met, I know you don't really like me, but I must say I loved the energy that you came in with-- but try not to kill anybody or cause more damage than you already have, hm? I'd hate for Mei's position with these kind people to be jeopardized because of us and most importantly, it's better to have an audience to witness a good show, than no one around. Don't you think?" She advised gently. Framing it in a way, that Reveler might find more preferable, at least, that was the guess here.

"Mei, boys" gold eyes moved to them, Dante turned away from Reveler- heading towards the exit now but the tail kept its grip on Reveler. "I will come back if I see anything. I won't be long." Then the hold on Reveler was released as she made for the exit. Only for cracking sound of a whip to follow as the second tail retracted swiftly. Striking Reveler from behind, dealing a swift, stinging but light swat on one butt cheek, delivered faithfully to Reveler's derriere.

"I mean it." Was the departing words. "Don't kill anyone with that excitement of yours."

Then she was gone. Tail slipping through the closing gap in the door.

Dante was already running by the time Sonnet's tail was nearly out the door. She took off at a brisk jogging pace. Clearing meters with each step and keeping the eyes on the buildings surroundings to see or listen to any possible signs of commotion. Any little movement caused Dante to pause and study whatever it was he might've seen. If they couldn't go into the building for risk of causing a new sort of ruckus, then they could look at them. So every time they reached a different part, that's what they did.

Within moments she was off the road, and in the open garden displays on the adjacent side of the building, saw nothing- so kept moving till she got to an area where an array of balconies revealed on the other side of the building.

And that's when she saw it. Someone holding onto the rails of one balcony. What was going on up there?

Better to watch for now. Interrupting would either put an end to whatever weird sexual shenanigans were about to unfold, or if possible, endanger the woman even further. So instead of yelling at Juzu and asking her questions from afar- Dante moved back several steps- as far away as he could to get a wider view of the building at large. With the enhanced sight that Sonnet had it'd be easier to see what was going on.

There Juzu was, interacting with... a three-eyed...person? What?

Did she actually just stumble into someone doing foreplay? Were the Serpents deeper inside the building? Dante decided to watch. If they started making out, then she could probably right it off as nothing important. Better safe than sorry. With Sonnet's eyes she could see that the woman that Yuto was standing over, clearly was unnerved- but whether that was all part of the foreplay or not, was up to debate.

Just in case though.

She grabbed a pebble with a tail.

At the very least, she could throw it and smack the guy square in the throat if it proved to be something otherwise then make a break for the others to let them know if what she'd found was what they needed to find.
