HOME COOKIN'
Lyric didn't need to tell him twice. He wasn't gonna pass on an opportunity to skip the line and get a taste of the food before everyone else, so he quickly took the offered spoon and set his eyes on the soup. He complained to himself about the long wait before, but it looked like showing up early came with some nice perks.
Before Ashley could sample the dish, Lyric said something that made him pause. She mentioned that Vulken and Yong-Yut had "acquired" a child, and he shot her a confused look in response. "Huh?" The way she phrased it made it sound like they decided to pick one up from the store while shopping for dinner.
Ashley planned on asking a few more questions about the kid, but before he got the chance, he felt someone grab his shoulder. Turning his head to the side, he got a good look at Vulken and all the guests he brought with him. Looking further down, he saw a little girl with long white hair and red eyes standing behind the older man. They really did get a kid. It wasn't like he thought Lyric was lying when she told him, but it was kinda hard to believe until he actually saw the child himself.
While Lyric was busy handing out more spoons and introducing Amelie to the cats, Ashley turned his attention back to Vulken. Grinning, he nudged the redhead's side with his elbow. "I was wonderin' how ya were feelin' after bein' laid up in the hospital for a week, but ya must be doin' just fine if you can still flirt." He got angry when he heard about what the bastards in the East did to the former Jack, but he never doubted that he'd turn out okay. Their dragon was made of tougher stuff than most people. "Glad you're still kickin, Vulk."
Changing the subject, Ashley got in a little closer and pointed at Amelie with his chin. "She ain't yours, is she?" It was a genuine question. He still didn't know where the kid came from, and that was the only explanation that came to mind. Although, he had his doubts. The girl couldn't have been younger than ten years old, and Vulken wasn't old enough to have a child that age. Then again, he didn't know what the guy got up to in his younger days, so anything was possible.
"Well, puttin' that to the side, we should start doin' our job." Pointing to Vulken's spoon with his own, he looked back to the soup that still needed tasting. "King's orders."
After making his way over to the pot, Ashley went to work and helped himself to a spoonful of Lyric's creation. He savored it a bit before swallowing, enjoying the sweet, nutty taste. Unfortunately, he didn't know how to put all his thoughts on the dish into words, but he did his best to get his feelings across. "Tastes good too." A rave review.
Stepping away so Vulken could take his turn, Ashley set his gaze on Amelie. "You're in for a treat, kid. Lucky you." Bending down, he ran his hands through Ares's mane. "Don't worry about the cats. Like Lyri said, you're good now." Lyric already said it was okay for the girl to pet them if she wanted to, but most kids would probably still be too scared to do anything. She had to trust a stranger's word that she wouldn't lose an arm, so he decided to show her that everything would be fine.
He didn't really know how to interact with kids, but if Vulken and YY were looking after her, he was gonna have to learn. She'd already been marked as family. "Name's Ash."
