Peace, the very word itself seemed alien to many who fought during the Era of Warring States, where many nations hired shinobi clans to act as their own private militia in a means to conquer more land and to expand the nations interests. The loyalty of these various would ultimately reside with the highest bidder and more often than not, numerous clans would come in conflict with each other over and over again. Due to the near constant presence of battle, the average lifespan for shinobi of this era rounded out to thirty-years of age due to the fact that children were often placed on the battlefield and therefore suffered the greatest number of fatalities. However, as the bloodshed continued and lives were lost in countless numbers, two clans emerged to the forefront as the most powerful amongst the shinobi clans; these two clans were the famed Senju Clan of the Forest, infamous for their myriad mastery of the shinobi arts, and the Uchiha Clan, widely-known for their powerful chakra and their dōjutsu, the Sharingan. Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha, leaders of the Senju and Uchiha clans respectively, would become the most powerful shinobi of their day alongside their younger siblings, Tobirama and Izuna. In fonder times, Hashirama and Madara had met as children, unbeknownst to the other that they belonged to rival clans. As the met each other time and time again, the two would come to share a dream, a dream of a place where children could grow old and live to sip and savour the taste of alcohol. A place where children were children could be educated without the fear of being shipped out to the battlefield to suffer a premature death. Though they would do battle as their clans were hired to serve each nations goals, that 'pipe dream' as Madara once referred to it, never left the idealistic Hashirama and as they fought for the first time where Madara's back touched the ground, that dream seemed to fantasy as both Madara wished to die by his hand and Tobirama wished to erase Madara from the earth. Hashirama reproached his younger brother, upon once again pleading with Madara about the dream they shared as children. Upon hearing this, lamenting that he had not brothers to protect, as Izuna succumbed to wounds inflicted upon by Tobirama, Madara gave his opposite number an ultimatum; either kill Tobirama or kill himself. This was the only way that they could possibly show their guys to each other. Thanking Madara for his kindness, Hashirama intended to kill himself to ensure peace between the Senju and the Uchiha and gave Tobirama instruction not to offend the latter. Before he could see the blow through, Madara stopped Hashirama, speaking as to how he had shown him his guts.
Following this battle, the two signed a treaty instilling peace between the two clans, and their respective heads went about forging that idealistic dream of theirs into concrete reality, upon the very sight they had envisioned the settlement to be built as children. Asking of his companion what this settlement is to be called, Madara grasps a cascading leaf flowing through the air, peering through the hole within it at his friend. The Village Hidden in the Leaves, and thus it would be called forever onward. As the village grew in size, more clans began to join such as the Sarutobi and the Shimura clans, which Madara expressed great surprise at. Though peace reigned throughout the Land of Fire and the one village per country system was being copied elsewhere, tension within the village was smouldering. Madara, feeling great disappointment at being named Hokage despite Hashirama insisting that he should be, and fears about how Tobirama would treat the Uchiha clan after Hashirama's passing, caused Madara to leave the village much to his friend's dismay. Later on, the former head of the Uchiha clan would come to declare war on Konoha, prompting Hashirama to engage his former friend in combat. Their titanic battle would shift the earth, displace rivers and create a new landscape in a battle that would involve the Nine-Tails. As the bout neared its close, Madara thought that he had won the fight only to realise that it was a Wood Clone. Hashirama strikes his opponent from the back, a blade piercing through his chest. Anyone who tries to harm it, whether they are my friends, siblings or my own children...I will not forgive them, Hashirama solemnly spoke, placing the safety of the village above his friendship with Madara.
As one era ends, another begins.
Some time after the defection of Madara from the village, the myriad nations that were scattered around the shinobi world began to agitate against each other. In a manner similar to the circumstances of the Era of the Warring States, these nations would not need to hire out individual clans but a village worth of these various clans amalgamated together. The First Shinobi World War begun as a result of various different nations being pitted against each other, with the conflict going on a for a period of five years before the first Kage Summit in history was called Hashirama Senju. Though most of the Kage present seemed to wish for the negotiations to go in a cooperative and peaceful direction, the proposals of the Kazekage aimed to disrupt this process, that instead of being provided a Tailed Beast, since they possessed one in the form of the One-Tailed Shukaku, he demanded that fertile land be given to the Land of Wind from the Land of Fire, its closest neighbour and that they provided 30% of the asking price that the other nations would pay for their respective tailed beasts. As the negotiations looked to be heading for disaster, Hashirama thought back to that fateful encounter with Madara and the difficult choice he had to make. Addressing the Kazekage, Hashirama informed that should him and his nation be the only obstacle to peace, he would resolutely try to defeat with all his might, venomously admitting that he should he need to, he would call on the abilities of the Tailed Beasts to sack Sunagakure and force the Land of Wind into submission. Sensing the resolve behind the Hokage's words, the peace treaty was signed and the Tailed Beasts were distributed amongst the various villages; the Nine-Tails remained in Konoha, sealed within Hashirama's wife Mito Uzumaki; the Eight-Tails and the Two-Tails were sent to Kumogakure; the Seven-Tails was distributed to a defeated Sunagakure; the Three-Tails and the Five-Tails were brought into the possession of Kirigakure; and finally, the Four-Tails and the Six-Tails were handed over to Iwagakure. At long last, peace reigned throughout the shinobi world and Hashirama, feeling that his role was finished, having seen enough bloodshed and strife for one lifetime, resigns and names Tobirama as the Second Hokage, remaining on as an adviser.
Now, twenty five years later, the world has been at peace for what some would deem an indefinite period of peace. Tobirama establishes the institutions such as the Academy, the ANBU, the Chūnin Exams as well as the Konoha Police Force. Though originally deigning to have the Uchiha bare the sole responsibility of policing, upon consultation and deliberation with Hashirama, eventually deigned for all clans of the villages to be able to join the force, thus ensuring better integration of the Uchiha within the framework of the village itself. Though many members of the Senju clan would intermarry into the various other clans that joined the village upon its inception as a means to strengthen the village as a whole, Tobirama would deign it important to ensure that the Senju clan as a whole would not disappear entirely through intermarriage and to achieve this end, would marry and have a child of his own thus ensuring the survival of the clan. Though this generation knows not war, their exist numerous people who have seen the horrors of the early years of the First Shinobi World War and their tales have passed on to their children and grandchildren as examples of bravery and power. Now, a new generation of shinobi arise, having graduated from the Academy that once was a shared dream of Hashirama and Madara, they aim to live up the standards of the past with an ever-watching eye on the future.
