Monster

Caleb turned and saw her struggling, immediatly he gently gripped her shoulders and pushed her back to the bed.

"I appreciate the help, but you need to rest."

He said softly before walking with a stiff, parshially concealed limp back to the counter. As he spread the peanut butter on a slice of bread, his hands shook so badly he cut himself. With a butter knife.

Caleb quickly covered himself by grabbing his hoodie from his backpack and pulling the sleeves down. He finished the sandwich and placed it on one of the plates, then put that on the bed beside Sarah.

"Eat, it'll help regain your energy."

Caleb said and quickly set to work making another sandwich. Over the course of the process he cut himself three more times, each one on a different place on his hand. Each time he covered it and kept working.

Sarah felt the plate and grabbed the sandwich slowly eating licking peanut butter from the roof of her mouth like a dog would do...or a wolf if anyone dared get close enough to see she smelled blood and stopped

Caleb finished the second sandwich and placed it on her plate, then put the bread and oeanut butter back in his bag. He stood for a moment, wondering what to do now, and realized the trailer was a bit cluttered. Eager for something to distract himself from the pain that shot through him every time he moved, Caleb set to work organizing the various things in the trailer.

After a while of working, he got used to the constant pain, which had subsided to a dull ache, dragging through him like a blunt knife.

Sarah blinked " I have two questions... One what are your doing? ...and Two why aare you lying to me, I can tell your hurt "

Caleb clenched his jaw to refrain from lashing out and said nothing, just kept cleaning until the trealier was all neat and tidy.

"Cleaning."

He said softly before grabbing a towel and heading outside, now to get the blood off the grass so they wouldn't attract unwanted attention. Not to mention the body of his father still lay limp a few feet away, soon enough Caleb knew he would have to deal with that.

Sarah had finished eating she growled getting up she grabbed his shoulder " why do you keep avoiding the other question? " she squeezed his shoulder a little like she was trying to stay standing

Caleb winced as she squeezed his shoulder, the claw marks from his father burning beneath his sweatshirt. He swallowed the pain and covered it up, gently lifting her hand and guding her back to the bed.

"You seem pretty insistent on not lettin byour wounds heal. If you keep getting up like this it'll just get worse."

Caled said quietly, avoiding her question again before turning and walking back outside, this time closing the door.

Sarah was really worried about him she would do anything to make sure he was OK so she growled and made rr way to the door she opened it but smelled Caleb's father and froze going pale she gaged shaking she took a step back

Caleb had only just started wiping at the grass with the towel when he heard the door open. He held back a sigh as he turned, already opening his mouth to tell Sarah to go back, when he saw he expression. He frowned and dropped the towel immediatly going to her.

"What happened? Are you alright? Is everything ok? Do your wounds hurt?"

He asked frantically already examining the bandages he'd put on herand checking everything over, he despereatly hoped she hadn't undone one of them by moving.

Sarah gaged again and shook her head she close her eyes tight whining and pointing straight at the white wolf's body she crumpled to the ground hugging her knees she cried gaging for the third time

Caleb followed her pointing finger and winced his gaze darted between the two of them and he debated about comforting her or disposing of the body first. Finally he stiffly shuffle/limped to his father and with a grunt of pain hoisted him onto his shoulders. The blood that had not yet dried quickly soaked through Caleb's hoodie as he struggled to get the massive white wolf to his car.

Once there he threw him on the ground then stumbled back to the trailer and got a towel, then went all the way back, put it in the backseat and threw the body on top. By now Caleb was just about ready to pass out from exhaustion, but he had a job to do. He drove to a dumpster near his house, and threw the body in.

It was tradition for the dead wolves in his family to be buried in the massive backyard of his old house, but since Caleb had to get back, he left the body in the dumpster. About 10 minutes later he stumbled wearily back to the trailer and dropped to his knees in frontof Sarah.

"I-it's gone.. it's... gone..."

Caleb murmured before finally the exhaustion and injuries combined got to him, making the boy collapse, his head on her lap.

Sarah hated the smell it made her gag because she knew what had happened feeling Caleb collapse onto her she grabbed him and put one of his arms around her shoulders then stood up holding him she knew it would be hard to get him into the trailer so she half limped to a nearby tree and sat him down smelling the white wolf's blood on him and now herself she gaged holding her mouth she shuddered and heard thunder she stiffened and knelt down by Caleb she ignored her own pain and fear to tend to him and see if he was OK she found all his wounds and limped to her trailer grabbing various healing items she went back to Caleb then shifted into wolf form to go find herbs she soon came back since they weren't that far and shifted back to human form sitting down she sorted the herbs cleaned the herbs and made a healing paste that would numb the pain she gently spread it on each of his wounds it was a soft green paste that dried quickly she dressed the wound over the paste and used some extra paste on herself she didn't have enough for the wound on her shoulder but ignored that and went to the pond to go clean her tools and refill the water bucket after doing that she went on a small hunt and began cooking rabbit stew in a pot over a hand made fire as she waited for Caleb to wake up

Caleb stirred slightly, the smell of rabbit tickling his nose and waking him up. Shockingly, the pain that had mocked him constantly before seemed to be gone, now replaced with a strange, herby smell. His eyes widened and he quickly sat up, spotting Sarah cooking some sort of stew, presumably rabbit.

"Sarah.. you shouldn't have wasted energy soing all this. You've dressed my wounds, caught a rabbit, started cooking, what happened to resting? Have you slept at all since I got back?"

He asked, voice slightly stern but mostly concerned for her safety, he didn't want to be the cause for her to become even more unwell than she already was.

Sarah gasped when he was suddenly awake and talking she tesnsed and dropped a bowl she was holding she furrowed her eyebrows and tilted her head towards him " I didn't know if you had eaten yet " she said trying to sound mmore firm but she sounded only worried, scared and sad she grabbed another bowl and filled it up she handed him the bowl it already had a spoon she then served herself eating slowly she let the heat and good taste if the homemade stew to relax herself

Caleb frowned and sighed, she was doing exactly what he had done, avoiding the question and answering something else instead. He set the bowl down and leaned forward, placing a hand on her forearm to stop her from taking another bite. "Sarah." He said, voice quiet but stern and concerned at the same time as Caleb looked at her, eyeing her face and visible wounds.

Sarah stopped she turned her head away she knew when she was being stared at and didn't like it her inner wolf clawed to lash back at his sternness she was an alpha and the inner wolf didn't take kindly to being treated like a pup she finally mumbled a bit of an edge to her voice " stop staring "

Caleb pressed his lips together and drew his hand away, shaking his head, before he stood up and brushed himself off.

"This may make me a hypocrite, but I've got something to take care of, let me know when you're ready to trust me."

Caleb said, voice dry and almost sour as he went into the trailer and packed up his bag before shouldering it and heading back to his car.

Sarah felt really bad now she didn't mean to she growled at herself murmuring about the stupid wolf she held her head and growled shaking her head she snarled and punched a tree as hard as she could makin it crack she winced hard and drew her hand up to her chest biting her tongue so she wouldn't scream

Caleb reached the car quickly and threw hia bag in roughly beforw climbing in and slamming the soor shut. He let his anger out for a few seconds then let out a deep breath and leaned back in the seat, starting the engine and taking off. He didn't even know why he was getting so angry, he had done the exact same thing she was, if anything he deserved it. But somehow, it just didn't feel right, he wanted to be able to protect her, help her, be there for her, when she oushed him away, well, something about it broke Caleb's heart.

He stopped outside the dumpster and put the white wolf back onto the bloody towel before drivig back to his parents house. As he pulled the body out and limped with it into the back yard, Caleb crossed his fongers that his mother wouldn't come out.

As terrifying dangerous the white wolf was, hia mother had a dark coldness about her, never showed emotion, and had a way of looking at people that could make them want to claw their eyes out. Caleb set to work digging the grave, which was next in the large group filling the back corner of the property.

Sarah couldn't take it anymore she sucked in a huge breath and howled as loud as she could till she had no breath left and her lungs burned she winced and held her sides then growled and shifted into her wolf form she snarled and ran off she had no idea where she was going but knew she wouldn't bump into anything she had broken her hand and her paw throbbed but she ignored it she had to make it up to Caleb or else she would loose it

As Caleb dug, he thpught he heard something, off in the distance, but it was so indistinct he couldn't tell. Somehow he thought he'd never finish the hole, but of course he did, and he'd just started dragging the body over, when a voice startled him, making him jump and let go.

"I appreciate you doing the honors of the burial, but according to tradition all live family members must be present, unless prevented by emergency measures."

Caleb spun, immediatly on his guard, and nearly dropped dead himself at the image he saw next.

"C-celia? Wait, what is she doing here? She's not even related to him."

His mother's eyes flickered with a spark of disgust and anger, before going back to dull grey. Behind her stood a girl of about 5, and she pulled her out, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"She is my daughter. And your step sister. That is enough."

"You're breaking tradition just by letting her stand there. Tell me why she's actually here.

"My daddy said we're moving here."

Caleb nearly jumped again as her small voice spoke, her wide icy white blue eyes staring at him. He looked up at his mother, her face twisted slightly and trying to show some emotion, but failing.

"So she.. and him.. they're like-"

"Yes, like us. And since you now lack a father and the father of the household is being replaced, we-"

"Have no need of me. Right. Fine. Screw it, bury him yourself, although it's not like you ever cared about him. Let alone me."

Caleb said softly and dropped the shovel, turning and walking back inside the house. Because he owned so little it took him around 15 minutes to pack everything into a suitcase, small duffel bag nd backpack. Caleb carried them downstairs and was about to open the door when it was blocked.

"Get out of my way. I know who you are. And I don't care for what you've done or what you're doing now.

The man, Celia's father and his mother's lover, frowned and dropped his head with a sigh of guilt.

"I-I'm sorry Caleb.. it wasn't my idea, your mother-"

"Save it! Now move, I may be weak from the fight but I'm not stupid."

Soon enough he was out the door and into his car, a scowl on bhia face as he drove. Caleb didn't know where he was going, he couldn't go and intrude on Sarah, and he didn't care, he was now the definition of homeless.

Sarah kept running her lungs burned and her oaws ached but she pressed on suddenly feeling pavement under her paws she snorted and ignored it the smell nauseated her, then she tripped and tumbled on the road she yelped skidding once she stopped she s rambled to her oaws and stood there catching her breath in the middle of the road

Caleb gripped the wheel with white knuckles and curaed under his breath aa he drove distractedly. At some point he saw some sort of large lump in the road, he nearly didn't notice it until it moved, making him frown, perplexed and stall the car in the middle of the road.

He got out, frowning and walked over to it, with wide eyes Caleb realized that it was Sarah in her wolf formad immediatly dropped to his knees, rolling her over towarda him.

"Holy shit, holy shit are you ok? Did you get hit? Run over? Oh god, Sarah.."

Sarah was startled at his sudden appearance she jolted and winced at her shoulder she began kicking her paw where she had puched the tree and broken her hand she didn't know what time of day it was but she felt very tired hearing a car roar by the screech to a stop and suddenly a man's frightened and angry voice as he spoke to Caleb about not touching wild animals especially wolves

Caleb stoof, face covered in stone cold fury as he lsocked the man in the face, knocking him back a good 3 or 4 feet.

"Don't you fucking tell me what to do. You know nothing!"

He snarled furiously and picked Sarah up witha grunt, carrying her and placing her onto the towel in the back seat.

Immediatly Caleb drove back to the trailer the only place he could think to go, and carried Sarah, or more like carefully dragged her, into the trailer. He set to work making a splint for her hand and cleaning the fresh blood on her shoulder before setting it and wrapping some fabric around it.
