Fantasy Monster Cafe

"He was a human?" Why did this information not surprise Nicholas. He should have guessed as much. It always seemed to be humans muddling things up, after all. It was interesting to hear how relationships worked between Lamia, and Nicholas made sure to store the information away in his mind for later pondering. That Jeremy had been ready to give to Roger whatever the man desired- or at least that's what it sounded like to Nicholas- made him despise the man for ever hurting Jeremy. He felt a slight comfort that Jeremy had placed another hand over his, instead of flinching or pulling away. Not that Nicholas had expected one reaction or the other, but he had truly been concerned about bothering the snake man further. The silver haired man gave Jeremy's hand a soft squeeze in recognition of his words. Perhaps he was presuming too much to believe Jeremy saw him in a better light, as one of the honest humans. "You deserve better than a human." Nicholas said simply. "You deserve better than anyone who'd ever with to use you, or thought of you as anything less than the amazing being you are."

" I know I deserve better than a human, I could have my own harem of males and females from whatever species I liked but I just can't seem to help myself when it comes to something like this. I left my village in hopes of discovering the world and finding my own mate but out here in the city there are so many humans and I'm still a Lamia, I still hunger for what only another can give me and very few monsters are so compatible with me and my methods of love." he shrugged"Humans are plentiful and compatible with my species and they know of many wondrous things in the world like airplanes so they are amazing too. How they have the courage to leave the ground is beyond me." Jeremy smiled at the others kindness, glad for his words.

Nicholas nodded when Jeremy agreed, moving to pull his hand away from Jeremy's. He felt that was as much a dismissal he needed as any. Jeremy could do better than a human. Nicholas was a human. Best to let this crush he had been building on the Lamia go. He paused when Jeremy continued to speak, deciding he should be respectful and at least let the Lamia finish before taking his leave. Then again, with the tail wrapped around his waist perhaps it would be longer than that before he was allowed to pull away. He hadn't really thought about compatibility between Monsters... what must it be like to fall for someone who wasn't physically an equal? Was it even possible? And he hadn't really thought of humans as incompatible or compatible with any type of monster- it wasn't something that had really crossed his mind. "You're not a big fan of flying, then?" Nicholas asked, deciding that trapped the way he was he might as well continue the conversation- though while he did he began to box up his feelings for Jeremy. The serpent could do better then him... so there was no reason to hang onto the way he felt for Jeremy. "So... why have you stuck around if you've been wanting to find your own mate, but haven't come across one here? Do you think that they might walk through the doors here some day?"

"I am of the ground, I have never been flying and am unsure if I would like to do do but humans are awe inspiring to those of us who do not move from the ground. " Jeremy spoke as if in genuine awe of those he had met and had told him of their journeys flying " As for my mate issues, most of the would be potentials have been human but many have trouble truly understanding what a relationship with me would entail and whilst there have been some monsters out there that have matched my tastes, they don't take as kindly to being squeezed as someone like you would. They also don't get so easily jealous." he smirked cheekily, having noticed the others emotional state much earlier and finding it delightful for it to be over him.

That Jeremy was of the ground made sense, since snakes tended to prefer either being underground or enclosed spaces, not being out in the air like birds. He wondered how the man would react to flying. He had flown a couple times, like when he left his family the first time... and when he had been traveling around the world to try and find a place to settle down. He hadn't been entirely fond of the experience- it hurt his ears terribly- but that didn't stop him from being enthralled by the knowledge of being so high above the world. The view had been spectacular. "What would a relationship with you entail?" Jeremy inquired softly, wondering if he fell into that category of obliviousness. He was trying desperately not to sound too interested in case that would push Jeremy away, or well... was Jeremy even interested in him? Was he just testing the waters? Playing the game? "I don't understand how anyone wouldn't appreciate being squeezed by you." He noted, hand still tracing over the scales in fascination. At the smirk, Nicholas' face blazed with warmth and he ducked his head, hiding behind a curtain of silver hair. There was no way that Jeremy didn't know then... "I... I know I have no claim to you... " He said, struggling his way through finding the right words. "I know this... and yet I still envied your interaction with the beautiful dragon woman. I apologize for behaving so disgracefully." He muttered... despite Jeremy's enjoyment of his response, Nicholas felt ashamed. Though he knew he was still going to end up jealous the next time he saw Jeremy flirt, and the time after that, and he had no reason to ask the man to stop. Not when it was so clearly tied in with his job and part of his many charms.

"Many would be jealous of her, she is fierce and takes what she wants. Had the roles been reversed even I would have felt inadequate compared to her." he nodded "Whilst you have not made a claim to me I have noticed your interest in me and I have attempted to reciprocate back as well as I feel another human would." Jeremy assured the other man, squeezing just a bit more. " A relationship with me would involve dealing with me, not the entire tribe, not whoever else took your fancy and certainly not for a short period of time. It would entail me curling around you often, be it in my sleep to obtain more warmth, in the morning to avoid having to wake up and during private times or some not so private such as watching movies in the lounge area in the cafe." he smiled slightly at the thought.

"It would entail being able to handle the fact that sometimes live prey is something I feel the need to eat and that I really can't become a vegetarian just because you think it disgusting. It would also involve being able to handle my charming other people, I mean nothing by my remarks when I am in a relationship it is simply how my species are with people and how I am as a person, it doesn't help that this is also how I help make extra money for my job."

"Considering I didn't even know there was a tribe, that wouldn't be a problem. As far as the curling up together... well... I mean that's just cuddling. I don't see why anyone would reject that. Unless they were the 'don't touch me please' type. Which I am with strangers but not with lovers." Nicholas paused, feeling like he was assuming too much by offering his responses to what it meant to be with Jeremy. He felt the soft squeeze from Jeremy's tail, and was reminded that the man had invited him to spend time during Jeremy's break... that wasn't something he'd seen the Lamia do with other customers. Perhaps he hadn't paid close enough attention, though, when the snake man took a break. He breathed slowly, debating in his mind what he was really looking at here. There was a very attractive man who seemed to have interest in him enough to discuss what it would be like to have a relationship. That was pretty much giving Nicholas the ok to ask him out, right?

"Live prey?" Nicholas recalled the many times live animals had been brought to other customers to devour. If Nicholas had been like so many others, finding rodents and birds cute, he probably would have had some issues. But he saw them as meals when they were presented to customers- and though they were living, which could even make Nicholas' stomach twist a little, it was something that happened every day with regular snakes and other animals. He couldn't fault Jeremy for living, which is what he'd be doing if he had something against the man eating live animals. "I wouldn't impose vegetarianism on you when I'm not one." He replied softly. His stomach was filling with butterflies at the hope of actually being with Jeremy.

"And... I mean... I survived this first round of jealousy..." He muttered, face scarlet from remembering the woman was Jeremy's relative. "I... " Nicholas paused, took a deep breath, and released it slowly. "Jeremy, if you'll have me, I'd love to give dating you, and only you, a shot. I mean... I don't have much to offer but I... Geez, I'm not good with words. I'm sorry. I really like you and want to give this a shot if you return my interest. If you don't... I apologize for misunderstanding where this was going and.. I'll leave and never return if you wish it." Though that would be really hard and really, really painful. He added silently to himself.

Wilhelm sat at his table with his usual smile on his face. He was glad that Jeremy and Nicholas were chatting to each other, it'd make for a great romance story. He didn't mean to be mean to Jeremy, just wanted to make a point. But it didn't matter, he was just glad that he didn't piss him off. So, until someone wished for another of his stories, he'll just sit quietly and eat his meal and read his book.

Sarya shook, a whimpering mess of black limbs and pale skin. She didn't know what to say or how to act, she was lost in the terror of having seen fire. It had been so long since she had really seen it... and when it was on the stove, being mastered by Xeren, the fire wasn't so bad. But to see her friend on fire? To be reminded how terrible fire was? It struck Sarya hard and she continued to shiver, flinching when she heard Xeren's voice... but she was able to look up at him, at least. Her mind sluggishly took in the details of how he was soaking wet and no longer with a shirt, as well as no longer on fire. Her arms seemed to act of their own will as they slung themselves over Xeren's neck, pulling the doll into a tight hug. Her voice was still lost to her, but she was glad that Xeren was ok. She'd have to make sure to thank whoever had put him out as well.

She swallowed heavily, having one simple thing to say: "Please don't go into the oven again." She continued to cling to the doll, the terror of what had just taken place still making her heart thrum far too rapidly inside her.

Nicholas flushed, unable to look away from Jeremy's gaze as the man watched him. "I understand they could truly be meant literally." He pointed out. Sarya had not filtered that from her discussions with him... she had eaten plenty of human in her days. He wondered if Jeremy had, as well.

"Fire? Well... Livi put the fire out?" He said, not understanding Jeremy at first... and when he did his face flushed. "Um... if you meant... well... my fire. I..." He stumbled over his words, seeking out what he wanted to say. His eyes lit with a sparkle of hope when the Lamia said he would have to find a way to coax it back out. It made him wonder what Jeremy had in mind, and it made his mind push into his thoughts are you sure you want to go there with him? As ensnared as you are by his charm, anything more and you'll be a heartbroken mess by the end of this.

"I... I would... " Nicolas agreed, nodding to Wilhelm before standing. He tried his best to stand straight, and look more impressive then his sulking had shown... but there was no mistaking that he was fragile and small in the grand scheme of things. "Where were you going to sit?"
He nodded, before kissing her cheek "I won't. ....." he frowned feeling like once again he had failed. But this time not showing it, after all he had to be brave and strong for her.

Sarya pulled back, looking at the doll in surprise- one hand moving up to press against the spot on her cheek where he had placed the kiss. It buzzed with warmth, and he turned her shocked gaze on him before her lips spread into a smile and she returned the favor, pressing her lips against his cheek briefly before pulling away. "Good." She said happily. She paused when she heard the familiar melody of Aspen's pan flute and Livi's howling alongside of it.

"I'm sorry that I didn't help put you out." She apologized.

It's fine I. ....was totally in control" he laughs, which was funny cause if he was in control then....

Immediately he hugged her tightly holding her close to him. "A....am I weird??"

"That's an odd question." Sarya replied, accepting the hug and returning it. It felt strange to be close to someone, but it was nice as well- Xeren felt solid and real, instead of fragile like he sometimes would seem to be. "I believe you to be outside of normal, so I guess weird would be a fitting word." She agreed after a moment of thought. "Also, I don't believe you were completely in control, Xeren... not unless your shouting was all an act?"

Aspen finished her song, noting how well Livi's howling sounded with the mournful notes. She turned her attention to the table across the room and saw that Jeremy had taken a liking to Nicholas, who was blushing red as a rose. The nymph grinned, her eyes sparkling. This called for something special for sure, what she would do, she wasn't sure.

Remembering she left Livi in the bathroom, she walked over to the door and knocked. "Livi, do you want me to come in?"

Jeremy laughed at this, loud and full of cheer "Little mouse I would be honoured to have you all to myself but I think perhaps a trial run is needed to see how compatible we are yes? It would be a terrible thing to commit to a relationship to then discover we are not so. It would also be smarter to learn about each other before having a relationship based purely upon finding the other person intriguing." he smiled, moving a hand to grab a strand of hair from the other and bringing it to his lips, kissing it. "There were no misunderstandings here little mouse."

Nicholas nodded through what Jeremy had to say. A trial run was smart, and finding out if they were even compatible besides the interest they had gained... and he wanted to know more about Jeremy because as they spoke he was continuing to find out he really didn't know much about the Lamia. Today was the first time he'd ever seen the snake man angry, and knowing what upset Jeremy was another important thing to note.

"A trial run is a really good place to start." Nicholas voiced so that Jeremy knew he was agreeing. "It really means a lot that you'd actually consider me." He added, giving Jeremy's hand a soft squeeze, watching with intrigue as the Lamia kissed a strand of his hair. "Is there uh.... anything you want to know about me?"

Xeren blinked , obviously found out he laughed a bit "okay...maaaybe I lost control, but Sarya do...ummm...you ....how do I say this...um l....like me??" He went redder, after saying this 'okay moment of truth' he thought.

Sarya blinked in confusion, wondering what it was Xeren meant because certainly he must already know Sarya liked him. She liked everyone in the cafe, even the boss though he could be really loud sometimes. She tried to muddle through why Xeren's cheeks had also darkened when he asked and the puzzle started to piece itself together in her mind.

"Do I like you enough to commit to only you, you mean?" Sarya asked, wanting clarification. Her expression was calm as she met Xeren's gaze.

Y...yea...d-do you...up l...like like me..." he seemed jittery, not scared but more worried about her answer. He looked aside "I. .if you don't then that's okay I. .I'll just get back to work.."

If Sarya recalled correctly, the double like border lined on meaning love. Did she love Xeren? Or as he asked, like like him? She of course respected him as a coworker and thought him a fantastic cook. He found his more childish moments to be endearing, and he was one of the only people she knew who could make her laugh on purpose. Her gaze moved over him slowly... is that what like like was? How was she supposed to respond to this, placed on the spot as she was. She didn't like the idea of Xeren leaving sad...

"I'm not sure." She answered honestly. "You make me happy, and I enjoy time spent in your company. Is there something more that you want then that?" She asked, gaze very critical as she glanced over him once more. "Perhaps more time spent with only me in your company? Because if that's what you're requesting, I gladly accept. I'd greatly enjoy more time spent in your company."

E...yea that's presto much it just you and me spending time out side of work us know, going on dates and stuff" he smiled, may not been the answer he wanted. But at least he got his point out and got a date in the process.

Wilhelm sat at his table silently, soaking up all the information he could hear while he sipped his whiskey. A human and a viper in love, and a spider being pursued by a doll. If he ever wrote a book about any of the stories he tells to people, these two would be right at the top of the list to go in it. Still, he was getting rather bored of all this romance stuff, he longed for someone to tell a story to

"I'd be interested in knowing everything little mouse so just tell me the things that matter to you." he smiled, all teeth. "Also stop doubting yourself, I am lucky you considered me not the other way around."

"Where shall we go together?" Sarya didn't stray much from the cafe for obvious reasons. She couldn't really do much exploring when it meant exposing herself... people still didn't take kindly to her. "Shall we go after work today?" She added, her eyes glistening with excitement. "Xeren! Thank you!" She added, gripping the man's arm.

"Hey, did I mention WIlhelm is here? We're missing out on his stories!" She added. "Shall we go listen to his stories? Until we're needed?"

Be more confident. Right. Where was the confidence that Nicholas always seemed to have outside the cafe?! "Well... my family isn't much to me. I haven't spoken to them in years and they don't seem interested in contacting me... I should probably tell you that I've been wanting to become a doctor though at the moment I'm training to be a therapist. I want to help people, which is odd since most people really annoy me... maybe I should look into becoming a veterinarian instead- animals are much more pleasant. I just want to know how to heal others, really, both mentally and physically." He sighed. "There isn't much more to me then that... I watch the clock so I can come to the cafe when it's actually open, I read a lot of books, I've got a part time job as a nurse and I have several years of school ahead of me." He said this with as much confidence as he could muster. Spineless behavior is not an attractive trait, and on a regular day he was everything but Spineless. So that was something... he should be himself around Jeremy. Not a meek little mouse, but a brave little mouse. "What about you, Jeremy? Anything you want to tell me?"

(I was about to go to sleep when people decided to include me, so just assume that Wilhelm tells a few stories while people whisper to each other. Sorry for the inconvenience.)
