Fantasy Monster Cafe

Xeren sat in his oven, feeling bad about what ever was about to happen. After all he didn't want to be in trouble with the boss, or even the snake waiter so he stayed in the oven.

"Only when I see screens and too much unnatural light. The lamps are fine because they're not so bright, but computers are terrible." Aspen laughed at Livi's rant, amused by the child's ramblings. This kind of brother/sister relationship (even if these two didn't happen to be related by blood) never really existed where the nymph had grown up. Any spirits living in the forest would either keep to themselves or come out to play light heartedly, not really forming any kind of connection other than the occasional friend. It wasn't if they needed to meet a partner of any kind, they were born from the forest's need for guardians. That was one of the things Aspen liked about the world outside the forest. People took what others thought seriously, they forged relationships. That was really special to her.

"I'm sure he'll break out of his shell eventually Livi! And I'm not really sure where Mister Wolfgang went off to, he always seems to disappear into his office until he's needed. I'd tell you to ask Jeremy about it, but I don't think now would be the best time, he seems to be angry about something." Aspen didn't hear the conversion between the people her coworker was talking to, but whatever they had said had really made him upset. Maybe she should talk to him about it?

"Xeren." Sarya said, once Jeremy had left and gone back to stand at the door and greet new customers. It took her a moment to find the doll, sitting in the oven the way he was. She lowered herself to eye level with him, pulling open the door. "What are you doing in there?" She inquired. She remembered the box of good smelling things after a brief moment and slung a rope of web together to snag the box and drag it over to her, opening to look just what kind of things were inside.

"Gingerbread Spider Cookies." She said in aw, closing the box and hugging it to her chest. "How did you know gingerbread is my favorite? And you made them into spiders! They're so cute." She gushed, opening the box to look at the little treasures again.

"Did you want to eat a few with me? It doesn't seem like either of us are needed right now." She noted, offering a hand out to Xeren- the one not holding the box.

"Famous people? Are we talking about like Alexander the Great and Hitler or are you thinking of other people?" Nicholas questioned. He could hear Livi causing a riot, and turned to watch the fiasco between her and the pancakes kept from her. He covered his mouth to hide a snicker, before sipping at his coffee.

@RedZombieWolf

The soft touch to his leg startled him, but when he realized it was Jeremy he smiled and let the creeped out feeling pass by him like water off a duck's back. He watched the man take up his place at the door, leaning his head onto his hand, watching the Lamia. He still didn't look happy, like he normally did, which still bothered Nicholas but at least he wasn't angry and snapping at people like he had been before.

@RedZombieWolf

The soft touch to his leg startled him, but when he realized it was Jeremy he smiled and let the creeped out feeling pass by him like water off a duck's back. He watched the man take up his place at the door, leaning his head onto his hand, watching the Lamia. I...can't do nothing right....your right, I added too much...why am I so usele- wait you like my gingerbread" he gasps, as eyes open slightly. He was very surprised he looked at her, scamming her and feeling so close he gulped. 'S..so beautiful...I can't. ..' his face flushed harder.

"You do a lot right, Xeren. I'm sure Livi would have loved those pancakes... but the thing is, Naisha doesn't want to deal with a Livi that has broken the time-space continuum... which is of course, possible, if she has that much sugar." She replied gently, softly touching his arm. She wasn't really one to joke, but she didn't like Xeren so down and so gave joking her absolute best shot. She's not even sure if what she said was accurate... but she decided she'd at least give it a try. If she could get Xeren to smile then it'd be worth it.

"Yes. Your gingerbread, along with a lot of what you make, is wonderful." She replied, watching as his gaze moved over her. She continued to look only at his face, wanting to see the light rekindle in his eyes. Of course, with his next comment, she had to look away. To say something like that... "You must have me confused." She said, straightening up and backing away a step or two. It wasn't that she took it in a bad way, it was that she felt there must really be a confusion. "Beauty is perfection... it's delighting the mind aesthetically, as well as the senses. It's..." she knelt back down, "It's a lovely word for you to use... but I don't think it's fair you apply it to me when there is actual beauty in the world." She muttered.

The events outside of the kitchen caught Sarya's attention- especially the shouting- but she forced her focus back on Xeren. "I uh... Xeren... you're wonderful. Don't think you're useless, ok? Because you aren't." So her mind was falling to pieces as it lingered on Xeren calling her beautiful... that couldn't be helped. She never had been beautiful to anyone- only a terror, something seen in your worst nightmares. Or, with her family, just another equal, not pretty or ugly but something that exists.

Xeren smiled widlry at the joke but then took her hand "no don't you think that! Ever!!" He was redder then ever but he didn't care. "You are so kind...so sweet, I can't see any thing more beautiful. ..I'll say it, your beauty rivals the Greek goddess of love, when I'm near you you make my body feel as warm as the day...."

Aspen had ducked her head under the counter during the entire exchange and when she came back up again, Naisha was gone, Livi looked like she was on the verge of tears, the the entire counter space was a complete mess. Sighing, she grabbed a handkerchief and a few rags. Walking out from behind the counter the first time that night, she moved to comfort Livi. "I'm sorry dear. Give me a moment to get this mess cleaned up and I'll fix you something."

Aspen fell to her knees and started to clean the sticky sweet mess off the floor the best she could, feeling a bit awkward from the tension. Good stars she hated when fights happened, negative energy filled the air and it made her feel guilty she couldn't do much.

(Bringing in a random customer who won't be like a regular, it's just to y'know help with story purposes and have the cafe filled a bit)

The bell on the cafe door chimes as it opens, a dragon like girl walking through. "Miss Lyla! A pleasure to see you as always!" Jeremy greeted cherfully, tail wrapping around her own in a sort of handshake greeting gesture. She perked up upon seeing him at the door "Oh my Jeremy if it isn't my favourite snake with the loveliest face!" she laughed. "Favourite snake? I'm the only snake you know madam and I'd rather like to keep it that way!" he chuckled as he lead her over to her regular booth. She walked past him, whacking him on the area that would normally be a humans butt as she went past with her tail. "Entertain me and so you shall be dear Jeremy."

"Madam that's hardly appropriate behaviour I may have to file you for harrassment of my person, only potential mates get to hit this."Jeremy chuckled, tail gesturing to all of him.

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/monster_6___spider_girl___arachne_by_myrmirada-d5l3smk.png.c4f4bfff177130a5e069c89bf39ffcae.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="73298" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/monster_6___spider_girl___arachne_by_myrmirada-d5l3smk.png.c4f4bfff177130a5e069c89bf39ffcae.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

"Xeren." Sarya said softly, in awe with his words. She looked down at her hand, gripped in his own, and felt that what he said was honest- well as honest as opinions can be. Her gaze returned to his face, unsure of what to say in response. That Xeren felt her beauty rivals the Greek Goddess of love seemed such a stretch, and for a brief moment it reminded her of the greek origins of the word 'Arachnid'. She pushed the story to the back of her mind when he mentioned feeling warm. His hand still felt the same temperature that he always seemed to be, so this piece of information confused her.

"I'm at a loss for words." She admitted, wanting him to know she had heard him and was processing what he had said. "When so many others fear me for what I am, you see beauty. I suppose we are the same, in that way. Not that the doll you inhabit isn't beautiful, but you seem to be blind to the beauty you create- but I am not. You are truly talented, my dear Xeren." And not knowing if she was doing the right thing, she gave Xeren's hand a squeeze, pulling gently to try and get him to come out of the oven.

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/66ff528a0703b566af1a0a0dc3c1cd0c.jpg.923b2389505599bbf1a4f87d8b1ad2a0.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="73297" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/66ff528a0703b566af1a0a0dc3c1cd0c.jpg.923b2389505599bbf1a4f87d8b1ad2a0.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Nicholas watched as another customer came in, watched as her tail twisted with Jeremy's, and felt a spike of envy hit his gut. He glanced down at his own mundane body. He looked similar to the immortal in the way he was built, yet had no mystical ability to continue to live. And Aspen's body, though having a similar layout, had a beauty and grace his human body could never home to possess. As Wilhelm continued speaking to him, Nicholas couldn't help but look at the others. Another spike hit him when the dragon girl's tail lashed against Jeremy- and his head fell to rest on his arms which were curled on the table.

He was really beginning to wish he hadn't interacted with anyone... that he had just had his corner table as usual, with his book as his explanation for being there... that way he wouldn't feel the painful slice at every reminder that he was so much less then the inhabitants of this place. To lust after a mythical legend would only lead him to heartache... and yet he couldn't bring himself to leave. Perhaps he was just a Masochist. He drank the last of his coffee before settling his head back onto his arms, wondering if they had any stronger drinks in this place. He wasn't normally one to drink... but he felt a desire to numb the pain at this point. He was just playing with you, you oaf. Just let it go and move on... he plays with everyone, remember? And yet Wilhelm's words had given him a spark of hope... that which he had tried to fight... and now was paying dearly for not fighting harder. He heaved a long sight, feeling rather low in the world.

Xeren followed but stopped "eh. ...um uhh" tries getting out ".....T.T a hehe. ...my but is stuck" he struggles a bit "man I knew those extra dough sugar balls are bad for me" he struggled to actually get out, starting to hyperventilate. "Okay it's cool...it's cool" as he tried again he turned on the oven sniffing "hay who's making KFC. ..."

He looked panicking "FIRE!!!!" Runs out panicking "ahhh my but Is on fire!!! Ahhh ow ow ow! !! Put it out!!!"

Jeremy saw from the corner of his eye, Nicholas' obvious discomfort and frowned "If you don't mind hurrying with your order madam, a little mouse appears to be sad and I'm in need of a break." The womans eyes widened at this "Oh my I'm terribly sorry I didn't mean to keep you dearest, I'll just take either a rat or a bird for my meal darling like usual." Jeremy nodded and bent to kiss her cheek "I'll talk with you later cousin, you've much to tell me I'm sure about your journey to your volcanic homeland." He moved away from the table to 'stand' behind Nicholas, tail lightly tapping his head "Is something wrong little mouse?" he asked concerned.

"You don't have to..." Livi mumbled. Her tail quivered and he ears lowered as she sniffed. She felt bad about making a mess for Aspen when Aspen was one of her only girl friends besides Sarya. They were both so pretty and nice and fun to talk to and play with. Livi loved both of them a lot. She slipped off the stool and when over to raid Xeren's kitchen for more towels, paper towels and a few sponges that she wet. She waved meekly to Xeren and Sarya and looked up at the chef with sad eyes. Livi didn't pay attention to any of their conversation. "I'm going to borrow these okay? I promise I'll bring them back and clean them..." With no further word, she shuffled out and back to Aspen to help clean up.
Her ears perked up at the chime of the door and she looked at the door to see a pretty dragon girl. Livi was starstruck, She watched Jeremy lead her to a table and then caught sight of Nicholas with his head on the table. Was he tired...? Livi frowned. "Aspen? Is Nicholas sick-----XEREN'S ON FIRE!!!" she screamed as Xeren came running out. She came running at him with the wet sponges,, assaulting his backside.
Whew okay thank you so very m-" he turns to have a sponge thrown at his face as he spoke, each time he talked seemed to resyilt in a sponge hitting him."okay-" again "you" again "can" again "stop..." is hit once more.

".....now....." he spits water like a fountain. He was soaked to the bone....or we'll. ..joints. "thank you...."

Sarya stared in confusion when Xeren stopped moving, her expression becoming more perplexed when he couldn't move. And then there was smoke and the smell of something burning and Sarya had to fight her instinct to flee the scene. Fire was not something she could handle, in fact... when the man finally pulled out of the oven to show that he was certainly on fire panic flooded Sarya and she scuttled as far away as she could. That it was her friend that was on fire didn't register... the only thing that registered was fear and the need to escape... or curl into a ball and hope the fire goes away.

Nicholas sighed when Jeremy leaned down to press a kiss to the woman's cheek, looking away after that point. Those two were certainly well meant for one another. They were both beautiful, reptilian legends. He could imagine how beautiful their babies would be, and that just had him sinking lower into this stupid sadness that had enveloped him. Why did it matter so much all of a sudden? He'd been coming here for so long... and Jeremy's flirted hadn't bothered him. But then... perhaps it was because he had been careful to avoid being flirted with. The snake man had charmed him... there was no getting around that. It had taken one simple interaction with Jeremy and now Nicholas was horribly hooked.

The fiasco of the burning doll did nothing to keep his interest, since the man was quickly put out, but his attention was grabbed when he felt a tap on his head and a gentle inquiry. "J-Jeremy." He stammered, spitting out the obvious... "I..." He couldn't just say he was jealous. He didn't want to be that kind of guy. "Me? A sad mouse? When you've been kind enough not to eat me? Now what gives you the idea that I'm sad?" He said, voice a little weak and his smile a little too forced.

Aspen jumped when she heard screeches. When she smelt the scorched scent of burned fabric, she panicked and ran to the chef. "Xeren!! Are you alright?! Thank goodness Livi put you out!" She took a towel from Livi's hand and wrapped it around the doll, who stood there, drenched to the bone. (In a non literal way.) This entire night was a disaster of messes, it was stressing the poor nymph out. "Thank you Livi for jumping in so quickly."

I feel toasty....." lies there not moving, he looked at his soaked clothes "oh piece of plum" he removed his shirt, hanging it up to dry, he went to Sarya looking at her, comforting her "a..are you okay?"

"I'm not quite sure you're understanding the implications of the word eat there sad mouse." he chuckled, tail tipping the others head up to meet his gaze "Where did the fire go from earlier? Is it hiding behind those big innocent eyes of yours? I'll have to coax it out some how!" Jeremy smiled as sweetly as he could, which given his many sharp teeth was a very difficult thing to do and not look menacing or like he'd want to actually eat a person. "I'm taking a break for a few minutes, care to join me at another table?" he asked as gently as he could.

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/monster_6___spider_girl___arachne_by_myrmirada-d5l3smk.png.5be02843120b5671b0522868aff3afd2.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="73303" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/monster_6___spider_girl___arachne_by_myrmirada-d5l3smk.png.5be02843120b5671b0522868aff3afd2.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Sarya shook, a whimpering mess of black limbs and pale skin. She didn't know what to say or how to act, she was lost in the terror of having seen fire. It had been so long since she had really seen it... and when it was on the stove, being mastered by Xeren, the fire wasn't so bad. But to see her friend on fire? To be reminded how terrible fire was? It struck Sarya hard and she continued to shiver, flinching when she heard Xeren's voice... but she was able to look up at him, at least. Her mind sluggishly took in the details of how he was soaking wet and no longer with a shirt, as well as no longer on fire. Her arms seemed to act of their own will as they slung themselves over Xeren's neck, pulling the doll into a tight hug. Her voice was still lost to her, but she was glad that Xeren was ok. She'd have to make sure to thank whoever had put him out as well.

She swallowed heavily, having one simple thing to say: "Please don't go into the oven again." She continued to cling to the doll, the terror of what had just taken place still making her heart thrum far too rapidly inside her.

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/66ff528a0703b566af1a0a0dc3c1cd0c.jpg.ca04816b7466d6db6739ec623c06fb33.jpg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="73302" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_09/66ff528a0703b566af1a0a0dc3c1cd0c.jpg.ca04816b7466d6db6739ec623c06fb33.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Nicholas flushed, unable to look away from Jeremy's gaze as the man watched him. "I understand they could truly be meant literally." He pointed out. Sarya had not filtered that from her discussions with him... she had eaten plenty of human in her days. He wondered if Jeremy had, as well.

"Fire? Well... Livi put the fire out?" He said, not understanding Jeremy at first... and when he did his face flushed. "Um... if you meant... well... my fire. I..." He stumbled over his words, seeking out what he wanted to say. His eyes lit with a sparkle of hope when the Lamia said he would have to find a way to coax it back out. It made him wonder what Jeremy had in mind, and it made his mind push into his thoughts are you sure you want to go there with him? As ensnared as you are by his charm, anything more and you'll be a heartbroken mess by the end of this.

"I... I would... " Nicolas agreed, nodding to Wilhelm before standing. He tried his best to stand straight, and look more impressive then his sulking had shown... but there was no mistaking that he was fragile and small in the grand scheme of things. "Where were you going to sit?"

"Well first I need to get the order for the lady over there and then I'm retiring to one of the booths near the back rooms as those are made to accommodate species of my size and particular leg having problems." He laughed "And don't take things like that quite so literally from me little mouse, we Lamia don't eat humans in the sense of food." the man winked before leaving to go grab a live creature from the kitchen, on his way there the dragon lady called out to him in another language to which he replied back in the same one. He shortly returned with a small bird in a cage and set it on the table before her "Enjoy your meal Vasly. You've such a foul mouth on you, I'm sure your hatchlings would love to discover such words." Jeremy snickered as he left her to sit at one of the larger booths.

Aspen took a deep breath before cleaning up the mess left behind by the pancakes and Xeren. The coffee counter and the floor around it looked like a wet syrupy hurricane had hit it, it smelled like burnt wet fabric and smoke. After Aspen mopped up all the water, she wiped off the counter and put the pancake dish in the sink. She went off to find Livi in the woman's bathroom, but exited quickly, figuring the child needed a moment to herself before Aspen stepped in to comfort her. Sighing, she gathered lavender from a nearby pot, whispering her thanks to the plant as she moved towards the counter. Gently, she spread the lavender leaves and petals across the counter, using the scent to hide the smell of burning.

Aspen's hand fell into her pocket and produced a pan flute. Holding it to her lips, she began to play a slow, calming song she liked to call "Embracing Ivy". It was a small gesture, but one she hoped the aura of the notes would help to calm the chaos of the night.

Nicholas nodded, and headed for the booths in the back. He glanced down at Jeremy's tail, often forgetting about how that was different then the two legs he had. He wondered if it was difficult for Jeremy to get around sometimes. He felt better when Jeremy mentioned that Lamia don't eat humans, the wink making the flush return to his cheeks. He rubbed at his cheeks, trying to get the blush to go away as he made his way to the larger booth and sat down.

A soft melody touched the air and Nicholas could feel a smile form on his lips. Aspen's music could truly control the atmosphere of the cafe, and the envy and hurt that had been sticking into Nicholas' gut so painfully began to flow away with the music. There was no reason to be so jealous... ok, no, Nicholas couldn't quite believe that. He still had plenty of reason to envy the dragon woman.. But he didn't feel so self hating, especially when Jeremy joined him at the booth.

He twiddled his thumbs as he tried to come up with something to say, glancing between his hands and Jeremy, back and forth. "So... has your night gone well? I mean, despite you being upset for a little bit... which was odd, I've never seen you angry before... and besides the small troubles that have hit the cafe. Otherwise... I mean things seem to be going well for you?" Nicholas realized he was rambling, yet couldn't stop himself.

"Yes, things are well, that woman over there is a distant relative of mine whom I will look forward to chatting to later on as it has been a long time since I've spoken in my native tongue and I'm being kept company by my favourite little mouse."He smiled before looking quite troubled "I am sorry for my outburst, you did nothing wrong it was just, well, Wilhelm brought up a sensitive subject that brings out the worst in me." Jeremy bowed his head in apology, end of his tail coming to rest on the others lap, partly as a gesture of apology but mostly because he's very large.

A relative. Nicholas, you fool, getting yourself all worked up over a relative. Nicholas scolded himself silently, feeling rather ashamed of his sulking now. Even so, Jeremy did flirt with other guests- Nicholas had seen it before. What was he going to do when a non-relative came through the doors. Part of Jeremy's appeal was his playful flirting, besides that he was a handsome man and exceptionally charming... He felt a sincere smile curl his lips when the Lamia said he was in the company of his favorite little mouse, feeling rather special indeed. While he thought about what he could say in reply, he noticed a familiar scaly form lying across his lap- and unable to resist the temptation began tracing along the scales- curious of their texture.

"You don't need to apologize to me, Jeremy. You're free to feel emotions, you know. I was just commenting that I had never seen you that way before..." The silver haired man pointed out. "I'm sorry that Wilhelm brought up a sore subject with you. If you need someone to talk to... you know you've got me, right? I mean... this little mouse is held a bit captive by you at the moment." He added, gesturing to himself with a gentle smile.

"I've got you captive have I?" he asked, tail moving from the others lap to actually wrap around his waist "I suppose I have now." the young man responded with a meek smile "Wilhelm just brought up the memories of an ex lover, one who seemed far more enamoured with the idea of being the tribe slut than in a committed relationship with just one Lamia. He did not understand the terms and saw me and the entire Lamia race as exotic sex toys." Jeremy hissed with displeasure.

"Did you care for him?" Because at the end of the day, what mattered was how much you had a connection to the person. If Jeremy had really cared for the man, and the feelings hadn't been returned...well that was honestly one of the worst hurts to deal with. And that it was a person who he'd been intimately close with, but that hadn't seen him as anything more than one of many exotic toys. Pain for the Lamia shot through Nicholas' heart and while one hand rested on the tail wrapped around his waist he reached out to gently place a hand over Jeremy's. He was ready to pull away if the man preferred, but he wanted to show his support. "I'm sorry that you had to deal with someone who didn't see you for who you are." He murmured. And here he was thinking it had been the other way around... that Jeremy had been the one who couldn't be faithful. Guilt flickered through Nicholas for assuming such things when in truth the Lamia could be faithful, if his words were true, and it had been his lover who hadn't been.

"It is the women of our breed who don't form emotional attachments as easily, they have males fight over them in a large harem to choose their future intended but the males go after one mate at a time unless there is no hope of reciprocation we become territorial and loyal in our pursuit of the other. I had cared for him yes but I was younger than I am now and did not fully understand how cruel humans were towards the supernatural especially those who would fulfil their wildest fantasies." Jeremy sighed, appreciating the comfort from the other and placed a hand over the others in thanks "But I am not as naive now and can often tell the honest humans apart from those who wish to use me."
