" Okay. " said Kenren. "Will you think about this question I'm going to ask you? You don't have to answer it if you don't want to, nor answer it right now: but do you still want to be in that position?Because we don't know what's going to happen. You may find yourself choosing between someone you care about like Renee, and our country if you remain with me. And if you would be willing to choose our country?"

"I'm still grumpy, but I understand why you hesitated, and I haven't forgotten all that you've done for me and my mother. We're still going to be friends if you don't want to be in this position anymore. I will still unite the Orients, if I can," it was the first time he doubted himself, "and I will still take care of Akihara, Tsumiki, and granny. You don't have to worry about living a comfortable life, our --- I mean, your family will have enough to live in luxury for generations."

"I just can't have a right hand man who won't at least put our country first. It's not wrong to choose what I . . .don't want . . . you're not mine, Chenglei, I don't own you . . . it's okay to like whoever you like and go wherever you want to go and choose something else and put it above the rest . . . it's okay if we're different . . . so . . . I just need to know that before we rejoin the fleet on the other side, so that I can choose and train another second in command to carry on my plans to unite the Orients in case I die."

Chenglei looked at Kenren with a blank stare, pensive. He didn't answer for awhile but then he said slowly. "I know I put my country first if I even had to break up with a wonderful man in order for you to be the heir." He was talking about Kenren as he was the only guy he ever dated. "And it's our family." He corrected.

"I understand and appreciate your concern but it will not happen again. If I have to, I will strike down anybody who gets in the way even if I don't like it. I didn't like killing, but I did it. I didn't like breaking up with you, but I did it. I don't like hearing that you are in love with someone else, but I understand and will stop my feelings in order for you to go on the throne."

Chenglei glared at the wall behind Kenren's head as if he wanted to be mad but he couldn't. He understands why Kenren said all of that, but he was still offended by it.

"I'm not . . . in love with someone else." said Kenren, confused. He was suddenly aware that it was just the two of them in the room, and became awkward. "Did I make you angry?" he said, changing the subject.

Chenglei looked away, huffing a bit. "Yes, you are. I heard that you called out to Princess Mia while we were under those tree spirits' conniving spell." He raised an eyebrow at the suddenly awkward Prince. "A bit, yes."

Kenren's face scrunched up, and for the first time in days he looked like he was about to laugh. He covered his mouth and looked away. "You're mad, Chenglei, because?" he continued, with a straight face, the corner of his lips twitching.

Chenglei now looked at Kenren with a light glare. " Because? Because you accused me of falling for James or Renee yet you have the gull to lie about not falling for Princess Mia." He narrowed his tired eyes when he noticed that twitch.

Kenren looked at Chenglei incredulously. "I had a crush on her, but that disappeared. She's . . . not . . ., " he looked at the table, then looked at the swordsman, "not odd. I can't be odd around her." he said evasively. "You flirt with James openly. And you even kissed in a broom closet among other things! And plan to dance together on Renee's wedding. That bit with Renee was out of anger, I know you don't like her like that, so . . . sorry."

"I flirt with James openly because I know it would annoy him. I never kissed him or do other things in the closet because that was part of a prank between the kids and I just wanted to help. The bit with the wedding is a bet between James and Renee. I didn't even know about it until the next day." Chenglei pinched the bridge of his nose, already feeling a headache coming along. "Apology accepted." He almost growled but held back. The blonde knows he's just really tired at the moment.

Kenren smiled. "Glad we sorted that out." he said, looking too happy for something so simple. There was a moment of silence where the prince was trying not to look too happy and thought of something else to say. "Thank you for the quills, Chenglei, I'll use them, these finger tips don't have as good a grip as real skin." he said, looking at his mechanical fingers. "Do you want to sleep? You look really tired."

Chenglei stared at the happy prince, blinking blearily and sighed with a quirk of a smile on his face. "Sorted out?" He questioned before shaking his head. "I figured. It's no problem....no, I can't sleep yet." He said, even though he really wanted to. There was a spark in his dull eyes which became duller at the thought of sleeping again.

"Alright." Kenren jumped out of bed looking light in spirit and like his old self again. He stretched and walked to the desk, taking his parchment and things and returned to the bed to practice writing there. His penmanship looked worse than a child's scribble, but it didn't faze him, and he seemed to enjoy the morning now.

Chenglei blinked again before sighing, getting comfortable on the chair. He observed the now happy prince and somehow that relaxed the blonde swordsman enough for him to lightly doze. Only to jump up in fright and searching for Kenren to relax his nerves. This happened a couple of times. He is happy that Kenren is finally smiling and back to his old self again. At least reality is a lot better then his dreams.

Lydia giggled as James continued with his kisses, but again tried to shirk away, it was so awkward and her face was bright red. She listened attentively as Renee explained the hair cream, looking to James as he sat beside her and telling him that she wanted it done as soon as possible, but it really depended on how quickly the burns healed. The burns weren't as bad nor as big as the ones on her arms, the flames seeming to have burned clear through the bracers she had been wearing and then leaping to her hair from there, the hair tie she had been wearing was gone, probably collateral from her hair having caught fire and the rest of it looked like a bad layer hair cut with singed ends. She raised her hands to her head again, checking the patches and sensitivity, "maybe we should wait at least a few days?"

She watched Renee as she left and nodded, "okay!" the she looked back to James and shrugged her shoulders before laughing and placing her hand against her face as she shook her head, remembering the time she spent alone with them on the airship, James really had no idea. Hearing Renee's call from the hallway she blushed and looked down at her bandaged hands, her fingertips the only part showing, they evidently didn't take as much damage because she had curled her hands into fists when she covered her head and face.

"Mm." nodded James at Lydia's decision. When Renee shouted back, he glanced at the door before saying, "How did she hear that?" Seeing Lydia blushing, he smiled, and gave her a smooch on the cheek, before leaning his elbow on the bedside table and propping his chin on his knuckle. He offered her the dropped sandwich before absently untangling some of her matted hair.

Another shrug and a shake of her head and James affection didn't cause her blush to fade at all. She timidly took the sandwich and thanked him, looking at it a moment, "I... I'm glad you're alright... Echo too... I tried to tell you that the army was heading right towards her and Seifer but you didn't hear me," she smiled meekly and bit into the sandwich, chewing the bite before she looked up at him. She looked like she had something to say but wasn't quite sure how to say it so she just ended up with a slightly frustrated expression before she took another bite of her sandwich.

"You did?" said James blankly, pausing in his untangling for a moment. "I was hugging Renee, sorry I didn't pay attention to you." his fingers resumed. "What's up?' his head tilted curiously at her frustrated expression, wondering if she was mad he wasn't aware that time, and stopped his fiddling with her hair.

She nodded her head and smiled, "it's okay... I just hoped that Echo was able to hide herself and Seifer... and it seems she did," she smiled at him and took another bite of sandwich before shrugging her shoulders slightly. Lydia was equally, if not more so clumsy when it came to her feelings and especially when it came to putting them into words so she silently chewed and looked down at the blanket for a moment before she turned her gaze on him, her brows raising in the middle as her lips pursed and shifted to the side slightly before she laughed and shook her head, "I... I-I don't really... know how to put it into words..." her fingers fumbled absently with her sandwich as she sighed, a concentrated expression crossing her features.

"That's alright." he smiled, sitting up straight and observing Lydia's expression more intently. "Is it about something not related to the battle?"

The corner of her mouth twitched in a slight smile and she nodded her head, "i-it... um... w-well... James... do you think.. you do think I'm weird?" She laughed slightly and shook her head, raising a hand to the side of her face, "you know... not like... in general... but..." she gestured between herself and James, "but like this... um... between us.. together?"

At weird he chuckled. "No." James laughed, looking at Lydia amused and at the same time trying to understand her and very curious as to why she was asking this. "Weird like two things that shouldn't mix together? Or that it's awkward between us?"

Blinking at him a few times, she smiled and looked back at her sandwich, her lips pursing again slightly before she looked back at him. Both things he said didn't really hit on what she was trying to communicate so her face scrunched up slightly as she tried to think of how to say what she was thinking, what she had felt many days prior to that day and had wanted to say something about since but hadn't really had the chance because it wasn't a good time.

"No.. just..." she lightly scratched her head, her brow furrowed, "James... do you... are you..." she huffed a frustrated sigh, "um... do you like to know... what I think?"

She looked to him curiously, almost worried even, "when... when something's bothering me... um.. d-do you want to know?"

James head tilted the opposite direction. "Yes." he said simply, and waited for Lydia to talk some more.

A bright smile crossed her features at his answer and she nodded her head slightly. James didn't know it, but through his gestures every time she was upset or angry, she realized that maybe she didn't need to keep everything to herself all the time. She had never said anything to James about how she was feeling, choosing not to elaborate on things that were bothering her because she didn't want to burden him. She didn't want him to think that she was a whiner or that she wanted him to solve everything for her. It wasn't really something new, she had never had someone she could relay everything to and at home she mostly kept her problems to herself because she didn't feel like anyone really would understand.

All of this though, Lydia didn't know how to put into words so instead just set her sandwich down and took James hand in hers, "Thank you, James," the words were all encompassing, everything that she had to thank him for including this new knowledge she had gained likely unknown to James.

"You're welcome." said James, holding her hand too, though he was confused, looking like he had expected more. "That's it? Er, nothing's bothering you, Lydia?"

Her other hand rested atop his, her thumb caressing the back of his hand, "nope... I'm happy," she smiled to him and shifted so she could kiss his cheek, "I love you," she then returned to eating her sandwich contentedly.
