Calien set the book down to his right and got up, deciding to see what was going on. He slid the compartment door open and poked his head out, able to hear some distant yelling which died down. It wasn't near them and he shrugged, withdrawing back into the room and taking his seat again.

"No idea." He shrugged. "Maybe someone tried to do a spell?"

Outside the train, the conductor blew his whistle and the outside doors closed. White smoke poured from the smokestack and within a few moments, the train began to move forward, slowly at first as it left the station. Soon enough, it picked up speed as they left London and the English countryside rolled on by.

(( @Solitaire ))

As the train started up, Wren careful shifted Draco from her shoulders and onto her lap, so she could sit back. Her nerves began to return in full as the train lurched forward, towards what very could be her impending doom and utter embarrassment. But if what Calien suggested was in fact true and the light they had seen and that horrible sound had been an attempted spell gone wrong.... well, at least she wouldn't be the first one to royally screw up.

Leaning her head on the cushion behind her, she looked out the window, watching the scenery speed by, a blur of colors against a brilliant blue sky.

"So... I heard there's different houses, when you get there. Any idea what that's about?"

Once the train started to move, Cailen slid the book into his bag to make sure it remained safe and he tucked his bag into the overhead area. He sat back down and shrugged.

"Something about... Four houses and they compete with each other during the year. I don't remember exactly." He shrugged and moved to lay on the seat on his back. "I have no idea how they decide which House we go in to."

"Oh..." She had a thinly veiled tone of disappointment in her voice, lowering her gaze to the ferret in her lap as she mulled over Calien's answer. What if their method was based on foreknowledge of magic? Or potential? What if she was sent home from the get-go, because she was just so utterly and entirely useless. What if she was placed in the most despicable house there was, and mocked terribly for it...

This sense of foreboding that she carried with her was beginning to weigh on her nerves and with a frown, Wren sat up, shaking her head.

"Doesn't matter," She started, half to herself, "I'm sure they'll explain everything when we get there, and it will be just fine. I'm not normally so nervous, I just wish I knew more about what to expect. But even if they make me the janitor, because I'm just so pathetic that there's no where else to place me, this is still the most exciting thing I've ever done in my entire life."

After that sudden explosion, Rowan was silently hyperventilating with his cat. Both of them were pale (though you can't really tell for Amber). Everyone on the train seemed not as shock which made the ginger gulp in embarassment. At least they didn't comment on his shriek.

Katy, and the two others were talking about which type of houses they would want to be in. He was listening quietly as he stroked his cat's fur, calming her down. The black-haired girl asked him what house he would wanted to be in and he immediately blurted out, "Hufflepuff!"

Rowan grinned happily, he really wanted to be a Hufflepuff, not just for the name but on whatever he read back at home, they were the nicest house there. The others either wanted to be in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.

@Cross_Rhodes @Meredith @Hiddencard

"They won't." Cailen shook his head from where it rested. "I mean, it is a school after all, we're going there to learn. I doubt you're that bad at magic, I mean, there's bound to be people who have even less skill."

Sure he was nervous about all of this as well, but his anticipation overrode his nerves. Draco jumped down from Wren's lap and raced over to the chair the blond was laying on and swiftly scaled it. He ran up Calien's legs and laid down on the boy's stomach, looking back over at Wren before resting his head atop his paws.

Meredith nodded, realizing something.

"I'm sorry..." She mumbled. "I'm so rude. I forgot to tell you my name... I'm Meredith. Meredith Caine." She looked to the boy. "I think you said your name was Rowan something, right? And you..." She looked at the girl in the compartment. "I don't know you're name..." She looked back to her cat - she was batting at the window with her paws. "Hazel, stop that." She said crossly, still quiely - her voice was always quiet, after all - and she plucked her kitten from the window-sill and cuddled her to her chest, looking over to Rowan for confirmation and to the girl for her name.

Rowan was taken aback by Meredith's voice, which got quieter and quieter, every time she spoke. Not wanting to pry into Meredith's personality, he answered her question on Katy's name.

"Her name's Katy Dale. Yep, I'm Rowan, Rowan Pringle. It's nice to ya." The ginger said warmly, trying to make her feel as comfortable as possible. Amber was at ease now and was looking at the small young kitten named Hazel, banging at the window.

Rowan noticed this and grinned. "Hazel's cute, but pesky, eh?" He said as Meredith took the kitten away from the window sill and cuddled it.

@Meredith [Notifs are not doing their jobs...]

Meredith nodded.

"...Yeah, a bit. She's still a baby." She took her cat by the waist and lightly tossed her into the centre of the compartment door. "There. Go play with the other kitty." She smiled at the white cat, digging into her pocket and taking out a cat treat. She'd bought them specially for the trip. She offered the treat to the cat. "What's your name?" She asked the cat. She looked up to Rowan. "She yours, right?" Hazel came over, sniffing out the treat, and Meredith dug another out of her pocket and gave it to her cat, still holding the treat out to the white one.

Wren's smile returned in full as Calien went on. She had worried for a minute or two there that he was going to be something of a bully, with how freely he had teased her earlier, but his kind words were something of an encouragement, and she was grateful for them.

"Thanks. Maybe you're right... maybe I'll be really good, even. I guess you never know, right? And I can't be the worst... they wouldn't have sent me a letter, if I was that terrible."

Sticking her finger in between the bars of Mouse's cage she scratched the tiny owl on the head, "The way I see it, as long as you're not totally alone, you can't possibly fail, cause there's always someone there to help you, if you get stuck in a bad spot."

Smiling, she looked up at Calien, "So just incase I say we stick together, you and I.

The Hogwarts Express shifting into motion made Victoria squeak and bury her face again. Keeping her head down she took the clothes and attempted to leave without falling over, it wasn't very successful. Stumbling over the ripped cloth of her pants, Victoria fell out into the corridor of the train and rolled a bit before getting up and finding a place to change out of the clothes. After a while she returned to the cabin, hair still a bit singed but at least it was managed a bit. The tears on Victoria's face had dried and she smiled a bit, then slumped back into her position.

Rowan lifted his white cat from his lap and placed her on the ground with Hazel.

"Yep, She's mine alright. Her name's Amber Swipenot. I don't think her last name suits 'er though." Rowan said laughing as his cat swiped the treat and nommed on it.

The ginger looked at Meredith than to her cat, "Hazel, ain't it? She's so cute." He gushed.

Rowan missed Amber's small kitten days, now she's a pesky teen.

@Meredith

"I wonder where all the other first years are." He mused before nodding in agreement, lowering a hand to stroke the ferret laying on his torso. "It sounds like a good plan, even if we're in different houses. For what it's worth, I think you're pretty cool."

A woman pushing a cart filled with all manner of candies and drinks rolled slowly down the hallway of the carriages. The woman stopped at each door, opened it and asked the students inside if they wanted anything.

"It's settled, then. No matter what house we end up in!" She grinned and leaned forward, extending her pinky finger, "Pinky swear..."

As the door slid open and the woman with the trolley peeked her head inside, Wren sat back and smiled "Nothing for me, thanks..." She still hadn't figured out how the wizard money worked, even after having it exchanged and explained multiple times by the eerie goblins at the bank, and she wasn't planning on making a fool of herself in front of the only friend she'd made thus far.

"Oh! Candy!" Cailen grabbed Draco as he sat up, he set the ferret on the seat. He quickly hooked his pinky with Wren's before shoving his hand into his pocket to fish out the drawstring bag his mother had given him earlier.

He opened it and tipped the coins into his hand, it was only five Sickles, but he was sure he could get something. "What can I get to 5 Sickles?" He asked, holding the coins out.

The woman smiled and pointed out the items, which was a whole lot of them. Cailen decided that the Bertie Bots Beans were the way to go and he grabbed two chocolate frogs as well. He took the candy and the woman farewelled the duo before continuing along the carriages.

"Hey, you like chocolate right?" He asked, turning to face Wren and waving one of the frog boxes in his hand.

After accepting the bargain she had waged, Wren watched as Cailen clambered over the seat to reach the trolley and she grinned. As the woman continued on towards the next car, Wren sat up, eyeing the chocolate with a quirked brow, "It... it's not actually a frog, right? I love chocolate, but I'm not too keen on eating an amphibian..."

She didn't suspect that they would serve children something like that, but then... it was a world of magic, and she just couldn't be sure. Maybe in the wizarding world frogs were a delicacy? People in other countries ate things like bugs, so why not frogs? Maybe to wizards, it was no stranger than a Steak and Kidney pie, or Bangers and Mash?

He tossed her one of the frogs and shook his head before sitting down. "They're just chocolate." The blond decided to not tell her how they would leap once the box was opened. "There's a trading card in there too, I've got Dumbledor's card at home."

He sat down again and decided to eat the Every Flavour Beans first, that way, he could see the look on Wren's face when she opened the box.

She held the box in her hands for several seconds, before she carefully undid the wrapping on the outside, but before opening it, she glanced up at him, "Dumblewho...?"

As she waited for the answer, she pulled the box open and gave a small squeal as the chocolate frog leapt out, onto her lap, "Oh!! They are frogs!"

But even as she exclaimed her surprise, the frog fell limp and lifeless, as chocolate ought to be, and Wren frowned, "Magic is... mental. Totally and utterly mental."

Meredith nodded.

"Yeah... Hazel. And don't let her hear you say that. It'll go to her head." Meredith gave a smile - it wasn't a whole smile, more of a ghost of something that could have been there, once. "Your kitty - Amber, I mean - she'd just elegant. Regal. Queenlike. Whatever suits your fancy..." Contrary to the tone of her words, she remained quiet. "...She's grown up..." Meredith watched as Hazel's paws batted at Amber, trying to trick her into playing. Meredith sighed, watching the pair. It reminded her of something, but she couldn't quite place what.

Rowan snorted.

"Elegant? Queenlike? On the contrary! She might be worser than a snow leopard." He cried, relaxing on his seat as he felt the Express moving.

Amber pawed back at Hazel, accepting her play and pounced on the other kitten.

"Cats do grow up, they don't stay the same forever." Rowan said, catching the quiet words.

@Meredith

"Dumbledor... The last Headmaster of Hogwarts. You can't not have heard of him! He's almost as famous as the Aurer, Harry Potter." Calien was blown away that she had no idea who he was, even a half blood like himself knew.

He watched as her chocolate frog leapt out of the box, and fell still shortly. "Magic is fun." He chuckled as he popped a bean into his mouth, immediately spitting it out onto the floor in disgust. "You're right. Magic in insane."

Mud flavoured. Delicious...

Meredith shrugged, still faintly smiling.

"...Even when they play, Amber's in control..." She stated, watching the two cats battle. Almost like Mortal Combat, that game that my... 'brother' had. "...And I know that Hazel'll grow up, I just don't want her to." She shrugged again. "It'll happen eventually."

"Maybe there's a spell that can do that to yer cat." Rowan suggested as their compartment door opened.

A woman pushing a cart full of different candies appeared and asked what they would like. The ginger thought for a few minutes and asked for some Chocolate frogs and Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. He handed her some Sickles, not even knowing how much it actually costed. The lady handed him a bit too much of both and Rowan struggled to keep a hold of it.

A chocolate frog jumped from his hand onto his hair, smearing it with chocolate. A bean fell down on the floor and Amber drew her attention on it.

"WHY ARE THE FROGS ALIVE AND COVERED IN CHOCOLATE!?" Rowan shrieked.

@Meredith @Cross_Rhodes @Hiddencard

Meredith tried not to laugh. She really did, and she almost succeeded. She didn't have any money for the trolley, so she nodded to the woman respectfully, allowing her to move on, before bursting into laughter as the frog stilled.

"It's not a frog. It's just enchanted." She did laugh, a little bit. "We're going to Hogwarts... You have to expect magic." Her voice, despite her joking words, still remained quiet.
