Carmen frowned at him. He was starting to distance himself again and she didn’t like it one bit. “If he’s still feeling unwell by tonight then we need to take him in to the hospital.” She muttered and rubbed at her face, sitting on the floor of javis bedroom and just watching her boys until Pedro got up once he was asleep and all she got was a pat on the shoulder

he smiled tiredly at her and shook his head. “I’ll try to call you but no guarantee.” He murmured and kissed her head, sitting up and getting up to go get showered so he could pick up Lizzie

Pedro gave a heavy sigh and nodded some holding his son close to him "How are we going to tell Lily?" He asked sighing softly as he watched Javi fall asleep next to him.

Max nodded softly and kissed him lovingly before she got her things and made her way back to her apartment so he could have his time with Lizzie without any interuptions

She shook her head frowning "I have no idea." She mumbled, standing up so she could go take a shower while Pedro was paying attention. She could feel him slipping further and further away from her since he'd taken that new job and she was reaching her breaking point. If he was going to pay more attention to Lily when Javi was this sick she was going to lose it on him. She was about to step under the water when she heard Pedro yelling for her and sounding panicked so she chucked her clothes back on and ran to the next room to see what was going on, phone ready in case it was needed.

Richard pulled up to the house and got out, going and ringing the bell smiling when his daughter opened the door and he picked her up spinning her "Hey there kiddo, ready for a sleepover?" He smiled, setting her down so she could go grab her stuff and he moved further into the house to talk to his brother, handing him the usual papers for when Richard wasn't around, "Look... I know I probably overstepped yesterday but I entrusted her to you both for her not to have to go through all that." He muttered

Pedro came back down to her a bit later giving a heavy sigh "He's burning up, sweated right through his shirt." He mumbled running a hand over his face as he thought over everything. First Lily's surgery now Javi had cancer, plus the stress from work it was all pushing him further and further away.

Jake gave a small sigh and nodded a bit "Yeah man I know, I know. We're working shit out." He said smiling some as Lizzie ran up to give him hugs and kisses goodbye. He sighed and walked them out giving a small smile "See you guys tomorrow yeah?"

“So lets take him to the ER, I’m not letting him be uncomfortable like this.” She muttered going to get shoes on and as quickly as she could had Javi buckled up in his car seat frowning when Pedro was stood at the door with no shoes. “Get lily lets go what are you doing?” She spat at him.

Richard nodded and smiled at the little girl as he got her in the car, “alright. Lets go drop your stuff at home then we can go get dinner. You wanna go to Olive Garden?”

Pedro shook his head some givimg a deep frown "She doesnt need to be in that enviroment either right now. I'll explain to her whats going on with Javi and then bring her up if he is still here in the morning." He explained kissing her forehead gently "Its going to be alright, call me when you get there."

Lizzie smiled happily and nodded some "Yeah! I want the yummy breadsticks!" She said happily as he drove. That was always there go to place when he was around and Lizzie refused to go unless he was there with her. She got out with him and went inside to drop her stuff off giggling as she saw one of Max's notes on the table "Uncle Richard? Is Ms.Wends your girlfriend?" She asked

She shook her head and scoffed at him. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” She muttered and left quickly after that to take her baby boy down there.

he smiled as he watched her, taking her back to the car. “Yeah she kind of is. It’s a little complicated.” He chuckled and watched her until he drove away

-6 months later-

Lizzie stood at the airport with a sign for her uncle waiting for him to return. She was excited to see him again and hopefully get away from her parents as well. Their fighting hadn't changed at all and she was scared of it. She wanted to be with her uncle and not them, they fought about having kids again and she didn't understand why they would fight about that. She had heard them say something about her uncle as well but she didn't remember fully what they had said.

Pedro sat at home looking over and signing the final papers for Lily's surgery which would be happening within the next week. He had become very distant from Carmen and Javi both. He spent more time at work than he did at home and it was causing him to become more of the soldier he had been before hand than ever before. He glanced at Carmen as she came in to get her things together to go visit Javi in the hospital since her mother was with him for the time being "I'll be up there later with Lily." he murmured to her

Carmen was exhausted. Between working and looking after the kids and trying to keep the peace between her and Pedro as well as maintain the house, all of that on top of Javi being so sick, she was really at the end of her tether now. So when she got home from work to get changed and go back down to see her little boy she was more than a little pissed off to see Pedro was still there instead of her mom like they’d agreed. “You are fucking kidding me right? You were supposed to go over there two hours ago! Don’t bullshit me with the I didn’t know either we confirmed everything this morning and I know you read the texts!” She snapped at him. “Javi wants his dad. And he’s sick and tired of being second after Lily.” She told him seriously, frowning some. “He cried all night to me last night because he’s convinced that you don’t love him anymore.” She muttered. “So tell you what, you can go down there now and me and lily will go shortly once I’ve had a shower.” She spat at him, glancing over to see him start picking up the papers he’d been going through. She had been super suspicious over all of that too. His job didn’t have paperwork to bring home so what he was up to she had no idea.

Richard has colected his bag and was heading through the last few doors to get out to arrivals, smiling when he saw Lizzie there, making a beeline straight towards her but from the start of the flight he’d been feeling worse and worse and now that he knew he could rest his body was overcompensating and it didn’t know how to cope with not being in overdrive all the time so it was starting to give out. He wasn’t more than a few steps away from his family when his legs gave way and he collapsed on the floor, completely disoriented and barely with it at all. He could hear yelling in the distance and he could see his brothers face in front of his but he couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore and soon passed out.

Pedro groaned loudly and got up "I'm sorry I've been busy with some shit!" He yelled at her glaring some "I'm going now." He spat collecting his paperwork and going towards the door. He frowned as she snatched the papers and glared at her with rage filled eyes "What the actual fuck Carmen?! Give me those!" He yelled loudly making it echo through the house

Jake went wide eyed when he saw his brother collapse and quickly got Nina to hold Lizzie back while he rushed over "Richard? Hey come on man wake up!" He said slapping his brother's face some yelking for some help when he still stayed motionless on the ground

“Too busy to go see our sick son but not busy enough to spend every waking hour with lily?!” She snapped at him, finally losing her patience and grabbed at the papers, ignoring him yelling while she looked down at them, starting to shake she was so angry. “You told me... that we didn’t have the money... to get him to the better hospital.” She said dangerously calm. “But instead you do have the money. It’s just going towards Lily’s procedure instead... which can wait.” She said quietly. “Here. Take them. Cause i got my own papers to give you.” She’d been holding onto them for weeks but now she’s been pushed over the edge, pulling the envelope off the kitchen table and pushed it into his hands. “Divorce papers. Cause I’m fucking done!” She spat, leaving him standing there while she went to take a shower.

Nina took Lizzie way out of the way and held her close trying her best to soothe her while she called Max’s number. “Hey, hey I know you were waiting on him to come hoke. We’re at the airport he’s just collapsed. You can meet us at the military hospital.” She told her quickly, trying to calm
Lizzie down desperately.

Pedro frowned shaking his head going to the kitchen and going wide eyed as he saw the papers. In his rage he quickly signed them tired of all of this as well and left the house without another word said. He dropped the papers at the hospital and went to Javi's room sitting next to him and kissing his forehead softly "Hey bud..." he whispered

Max picked up her phone after she hung up the last of the welcome home decorations going wide eyed as she heard Nina explain what was happening "I'll be there soon." She said quickly and got her things rushing to the military hospital. She looked around for them but she was awfully confused by the place

Carmen finished her shower and wandered down to the kitchen, feeling her heart break even more as she saw every page just signed. He hadn’t even tried to fight for it. She composed herself quick as she could before going up to get Lily ready to go and got her a bag together, taking her over to her moms place then headed straight to the hospital, finding Javis room and sitting down by the bed seeing he was sleeping again and glanced at Pedro. “She’s not having that procedure. You can’t just go ahead and sign her up for it with only one of us giving permission.” She pointed out a lot calmer this time.

Richard had been fading in and out the whole time, mostly just seeing Jake there with him. By ocassionally there was no one but a bunch of medical staff and he was getting worried until they finally got him set up in a room to rest, frowning some and looking over at his brother, about to say something when he heard Max’s voice and watched her walk through the door, instinctively reaching for her desperately.

Pedro frowned shaking his head some "I already submitted the papers, she is going to have it, she deserves it!" He spat at her


Max finally found his room and walked in giving a small smile as she saw him awake "Hey....welcome home." She said softly going to sit by his side next to Lizzie and taking his hand in hers

Carmen shook her head crossing her arms over her chest. “I’ve signed nothing. She could have that done later. Javi needs help now!” She pointed out bursting into tears “my baby is so sick and you’ve done nothing to comfort him or me. All I do is look after everyone Pedro. I can’t believe you’re throwing away 15 years because you can’t get your head out of your ass.” She whimpered shaking her head and moving closer to her son.

Richard frowned some and kissed her palm gently just watching her. “Exhaustion. Dehydration... I haven’t... I haven’t been dealing well with it.” He whimpered quietly.

Pedro frowned some and got up shaking his head a bit "You think I really want to loose you?! The kids?! You got those for a reason, not to threaten me, no you would've just thrown the word for that. You want me gone and want us to be over, so I'm not going to fight what you want." He spat before he got up to leave kissing the top of Lily's head before he left

Max frowned some at him giving a small nod "Well you're here now and we'll all make sure everything is just fine with it okay?" She said quietly kissing his cheek gently

She watched him leave and just sat there shaking and sobbing while Javi slept. He hadn’t even tried to convince her otherwise but she needed to get out of that environment and get the kids out of that as well. Once her mom brought lily over later on she waited too the kids were quietly colouring with each other before talking to her. “He signed the papers.... I barely had to convince him.” She whimpered quietly, explaining everything that happened.

he frowned watching her and just gave her hand a soft squeeze, never taking his eyes off her. He didn’t want anybody there except her for now. He felt ashamed of what he’d done when his brothers family was there. Especially when his little girl was watching him so expectantly the whole time. He felt like he was letting her down but with max he just felt comfort. It had always been that way so when the others left and Jake went to get coffee leaving him and max alone he pat the spot next to him on the bed, slipping his arms around her as tight as he could. “I missed you so much.” He murmured.

Her mother shook her head and took a deep breath "If you need to stay with your father and I we will make room okay? I promise darling this is for the best. He is giving no cares towards his family. Maybe hold off on signing them and just seperate for the time being." She said softly trying to comfort her daughter the best she could.

Max smiled softly at him not taking her eyes off of him either. Once his family stepped out she got in bed with him and wrapped her arms around him kissing hin lovingly "I missed you too." She whispered to him stroking his cheek gently "What happened Richard? Why did you fall?" She asked quietly

He frowned some sighing heavily. “We lost three men. Planes got shot down. I didn’t have time to eat. Barely slept.... I... I think I’m okay mentally... but physically I’ve worn myself out to the extreme.” He told her softly, keeping her close and kissed her forehead. “Body gave out on me when we got home.” He explained. “What have you been up to?” He asked not wanting to dwell.

carmen shook her head. “He wants it just as much as I do. He didn’t second guess it at all.” She muttered shaking her head. “Im not leaving that house. Javi has been uprooted more than enough as it is.” She mutteredglancing over at her kids. “Can you watch them? I need to go home and talk to him.” She told her softly and thanked her when she agreed, assuring themshe would be back for dinner but left quickly to go home and talk to pedro one last time about it all

Max nodded softly and kissed his cheek gently "I've just been working, binging Game Of Thrones, boring old life." She said giving a small laugh stroking his cheek gently "Been missing you like crazy." She told him giggling softly "Don't worry though, I was good and didn't see the new Star Wars movie without you."

Pedro sat at the house sipping his sixth double shot whiskey drink feeling his buzz coming on when he heard the door open. He didn't even look towards the door or say anything knowing already that was it Carmen. He didn't want to really say anything about it all but he knew it was going to happen.

“Oh jeez Pedro.” She muttered seeing the bottle of Jack next to him. “We need to talk.” She muttered, setting her bag in the side, greeting Pearl happily then went to sit on the opposite couch to him, the dog snuggled up to her. “Why didn’t you even tell me about wanting to do this for lily? We could have come to a compromise but you went behind my back to do something massive for her, told her to keep it a secret... and kept the money from our sick son, who needs that more. “ she mumbled watching him carefully. She barely recognised her husband in there and she missed him terribly but as much as she wanted to ‘fix him’ or stick it out, she had to think about the kids and after fifteen years she needed him to help himself for once.

richard smiled tiredly over at her and leaned back, shakily reaching ho to her face and tucking some hair behind her ear as he listened to her. “You know there are other shows out there... besides game of thrones.” He smiled a little again, speaking softly. “I missed you a lot too.” He murmured. “Soon as I’m out of here, we can go see it.” He chuckled and lay back some mire, holding her to him as much as he could. “Mmm, you mean everything to me you know that?”

Pedro frowned finishing off his drink and pouring another one "Because I wanted to do something for MY daughter." He muttered still staring straight ahead of him "Not your son." He spat taking another swig of his new drink

Max laughed softly giving a small nod "I know but its just so good." She said kissing his temple gently and nodding some "And you mean everything to me." She whispered

Carmen frowned watching him. “What the hell are you talking about? Pedro enough with the drinking! Please!” She begged him going over and snatching the glass away, quickly taking the bottle and sighed he’s ily just watching him. “He is our son.” She muttered.

He smiled weakly at her, struggling to keep his eyes open until his breathing started hitching and becoming more desperate, shallower but he barely noticed with how worn out he was.

Pedro shook his head glaring at her some "Fucking please I know Javi isn't mine! You go pregnant during that two month span I was home and then I left. You were probably pregnant that whole time!" He yelled standing up and yanking the bottle from her hands

Max frowned some and got up pressing the call button "Richard? Richard calm down and rest okay? Its okay." she said softly trying to get him calmed back down

She frowned shaking her head and watched him “Pedro don’t be so ridiculous!” She snapped at him. “You’re really accusing me right now if chewting on you?” She questioned him, gritting her teeth when he snatched the bottle back just going to grab her coat. “Fine. Have it your way but you best believe I’m taking the kids.” She spat at him as she started to leave quickly, slamming the door behind her.

Richard frowned and just watched her quietly, only semi-aware that he was getting bad until he eventually passed out and his grip on her hand went completely limp.
