He held her hand while they walked inside and kissed her head. “I promise Lizzie spaghetti tonight. I’ll make it.” He promised and kissed her head again. “But first things first... when I get you home... I’m gonna need that amazing mind of yours.” He murmured to her.

Carmen sighed and nodded. “It’ll be fine.... for all our troubles... one thing I’ve never questioned.... is that you are w great dad. Always were from day one. You’ll do fine.” She promised and went to get the kids, bringing them back into the room and carrying javi who seemed a little more tired now just cuddling him close as she set him on the bed with his sister. “Guys, daddy doesn’t remember us very well okay? So we gotta help him remember. He hit his head really really bad.” She explained to them both, smiling watching lily cuddle into him.

Max laughed softly and gave a nod "I'm good with spaghetti. My mind huh? What would you need it for?" She asked raising an eyebrow and smirking at him some

Pedro looked at the kids in awe smiling some as he saw the little girl next to him cuddling close. He looked at Carmen with tears in his eyes and took a deep breath "These are our kids?"

Carmen nodded and smiled as Lily snuggled in close, "These are our babies." She murmured to him. If nothign else was nice about all this, seeing him look at the kids for the first time was a priceless moment she wanted to hold onto forever again. This in front of her was her husband. The Pedro she had loved for so many years. "Javi you wanna cuddle Daddy?" She asked him gently, frowning when he shook his head, going to get him a water bottle out of his bag and held him close while he sipped at it until he soon fell asleep, watching him worriedly. He'd been doing good recently and this wasn't good. "You need any painkillers Pedge?" She asked him while Lily sat up and started signing at him then gave upa nd was grabbing her notebook to write things down to talk to him.

Richard smiled, "Paperwork." he grinned at her. Even in high school he was never good at doing his homework and it had resulted in many a failed class which he'd only begun to regret when he joined the air force and they made him basically do high school all over again. Any time he had handed homework in though, it was only because Mac had either helped him or done it for him and in return he'd buy her snacks from the vending machines, always paying attention to what her favorite was. He headed over to the desk to register himself in then went to sit and wait, runnign a hand throuogh his hair. "And after paper work.... Maybe I could use that body of yours.... On mine... under the sheets... or on top." He winked at her

Pedro shook his head some just staring at the two of them giving a small smile as he read what his daughter had to say. He wrote back with her back and forth until he started yawning and getting exhausted some "Can I hold him?" He asked Carmen tiredly wanting to hold his son atleast once before he passed out.

Max laughed lightly and nodded a bit. She had always loved helping Richard with his homework even if it was her just doing it for him. It helped them get closer to one another and she never gave up an oppurtunity to hang out with him. She got out of the car and wrapped her arms around his side smirking some "Mmm I think I can spare a few minutes for that,I gotta start of my assignment book for the week though."

She frowned, a little more focused on Javi for now but nodded when she heard Pedro ask a second time, getting Javi, snuggled into his Dad's arms, "He's just... I worry about him." She mumbled frowning some "I want him back to how he was before, my perfect little boy. He's just like his dad y'know... Quiet mostly but he loves his sister... Adores you... He's very creative." She mumbled, triling off when she saw the two of them had fallen asleep and smiled a little, tucking a blanket around them and waited quietly.

He nodded and leaned back, bouncing his knee quickly as he got a little nervous, relaxing only once Max's hand was over his and he took a deep breath to calm himself down, getting up once his name was called and followed through, going over all normal checks and answering all the questions on how he'd been eating and exercising and sleeping. It was certainly a lot better than the previous answer of a couple hours a night... at best. Once he was finished he headed back out to her and smiled, "I'll get a call from my supervisor once he has the results." He murmured to her.

Pedro held his son close and smiled happily listenimg to her rattle off about him until hw too fell asleep to the sound of her voice.

Max gave a small nod and smiled softly at Richard "I'm sure you'll do great babe." She murmured before she walked out with him

Richard got in from work and sighed a little, seeing juice spilt on the table and Lizzie nowhere in sight, running a hand through his hair while he made his way further into the house, "Lizzie! Sweetheart you need to come clean up your mess!" He called to her, heading through the living room and out to the back porch to find Max sitting at the table out there with her marking, "Hey there gorgeous." He murmured, sitting down next to her and kissing her cheek, "Sorry I ran late, extra preparations for sending a group out tomorrow morning." He explained. "Oh... When Lizzie goes to bed... we need to talk." He murmured to her, kicking his boots off and starting to unbutton his shirt so he could be in just his vest. Now they were approaching the middle of summer, his uniform was becoming suffocating by the end of the day and all he wanted was the whole thing off.

Carmen had dropped the kids off with her Mom before heading in to the hospital to see how Pedro was getting on. She'd stayed away for most of the week, dealing with relationship problems between her and charlie. Problems that, they discovered last night, couldn't be fixed. They'd gone their separate ways after she'd gotten a phone call from the hospital to say Pedro had gone downhill again and she'd been about to leave without even saying anything to Charlie. She walked in to go find his room, frowning as she saw him propped up in bed with another chest tube in, his leg looking a little swollen still after his latest surgery on it to help him at least be able to walk again. "Hey... they told me you had a lung collapse again... how you doing?" She asked him softly, going and sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning back so she was sat next to him, taking his hand in hers gently. She'd kept her word in that she was stuck by his side as his best friend but part of what had come up last night was Charlie pointing out that what she really wanted, was for her and Pedro to try one more time to make things work. If today's visit went well enough she had planned to brin it up to him.

Max sat outside with Lizzie while she played and graded papers for the night. She had decided to move in with Richard after they both realized she was barely at her apartment anymore. She smiled some as Richard came out and leaned over kissing his cheek gently "Mmm hey handsome." She said softly but soon gave a small frown when he said they needed to talk "Oh alright." she said softly before she closed up her book. She reached over and placed her hand in his giving a small smile as she watched him. She was so in love with him at the moment she didn't know what to do with herself, all she really wanted anymore was for him to pop the question but she wouldn't pressure him into it either.

Pedro gave a small smile as he saw Carmen come into thw room thankful that she was there right now. He had been going downhill lately but his memory was slowly coming back to him. He remembered the kids now, atleast Lily and he was slowly relearning sign language. They had found an infection in his leg recently though and he prayed they could fix it or else it would be amputated. He squeezed her hand some as he watched her "Honestly? I feel like complete shit...my stitches got an infection and I can barely breathe." He said quietly taking as deep of a breath he could "They said if my body can't fight the infection they might have to amputate..." he muttered

Carmen frowned, sitting up a bit more, "You should have called me... If I know you at all? I know you're strong enough to get through this alright? You gotta be sensible is all... Keep Javi away from here for a few more days... You want me to bring you anything?" She asked him, "I'm gonna be here every day again now I... Charlie isn't in the picture anymore, I don't have to appease him and stay away." She told him softly, "He decided I was spending too much time with you... I couldn't explain to him how much you mean to me, together or not." She murmured, feeling his forehead noticing he was ever so slightly warmer than normal, "Come here." she murmured, shifting him gently to be laying back against her for the first time in well over a year, holding his hands in hers gently.

Richard smiled some, "I promise you're not in trouble... Unless you'd like to be." He winked at her tiredly, gently pulling her to come sit on his lap and held her to him gently, wanting to feel her in his arms, just know that he had her there and that she was safe. "I love you." He murmured softly, glancing over at Lizzie who still hadn't gone to clean her mess up "Lizzie! Can you go clean up your spilt juice. We're gonna get flies or ants and at dis ma nut in when you don't clean your mess up!" He called over to her, his accent coming out thicker than normal with a little bit of annoyance at her lack of awareness over her messes.

Max smiled some as Lizzie looked over and said sorry before she ran inside to clean it up "Mmm I haven't heard you accent that thick in a long time." She said kissing him deeply and pulling just a bit letting her forehead rest against his "I love you..." she whispered ever so softly to him while she closed her eyes just enjoying his presence with her.

Pedro shook his head some "Didn't want you away from the kids." He whispered frowning when she mentioned it was over with Charlie "I'm sorry Carmen...I know he made you happy." He whispered before he let out a series of coughs. He moved to lay with her and instantly relaxed feeling safe, secure, and loved in her embrace.

She frowned, rubbing his chest in circles and trying to help soothe him like she had done once before. Not long after Lily was born, he'd come back from a tour and come back with the worst chest infection she'd ever seen in someone. She was sure at the time that he was more than just a little sick and she'd worried over him non stop until he'd eventually gotten better, right before Lily had gotten her ear infection that led to the hearing loss. "Pedge... Right now you're a priority." She mumbled and kissed his head without thinking, worried sick about him while she tried to get him to rest, getting up only once he was asleep again, going to find his doctor, "What's wrong with him?" She asked worriedly, glancing back into the room.

He smiled some and kissed her back, "Aye, the boys from Scotland are in, it's bringing it all back to the forefront again." He told her, kissing her head, "Mmm... What are we doin for tea?" He asked her quietly, rubbing circles in her palms and watching her happily. If someone a year ago had told him he would be back with her again and have her in his arms for good he would've laughed in their face but there she was, beautiful as ever and completely his

The doctor frowned some giving a heavy sigh "We're running tests to find out fully but right now I'm not fully sure. We're hoping its just a small cold which is treatable but we have to keep a close eye on him due to his fragile state." He explained

Max shrugged smiling softly at him "Not sure, whatever you want." She said softly giving him a peck on the lips "Mmm might need to go hang around you and the lads to hear it more " she said giving a small laugh

She frowned but thanked him quietly and sat down near his bed again, rubbing a hand through his hair soothingly seeing he had woken up again. “You want me to get you anything?” She murmured, kissing his palm and keeping his hand to her face just watching him worriedly.

He chuckled some and shook his head. “Aye, come down and you’ll see why I don’t want you near em. I’d never see you again.” He murmured holding her close. “You wanna go inside? It’s getting a little hot out heee.”

Max laughed shaking her head some "Oh no, no one could ever take me from ya." She said in a horrible scottish accent, the same one she used to tease him with all the time when they were younger. It was one of her favorite things to do when she wanted to make him cringe a bit.

Pedro shook his head some and brushed her cheek gently with his thumb "Just need you here.." he whispered quietly to her

Carmen frowned, placing her hand over his and watching him, "You rmember when we met?" She asked him softly, moving closer and shuffling them both around as painlessly as possible to get laid down next to him, keeping her arms around him tightly.

He frowned some and shook his head, "Aye, and this is why I've never taken ye home." He chuckled, kissing the side of her neck and stood up, walking into the air conditioned house with her, seeing Lizzie had finally cleaned her mess up, going to get a beer for himself.

Pedro smiled softly and gave a nod "Yeah...you were at a party....looking stunning as ever. I remember how I told my friend I was going to marry you." He murmured to her

Max gasped and laughed some "Oh you're gonna take me there mister." She said as they walked in smiling at Lizzie "Thank you Lizzie." She said kissing the little girl's head going wide eyed when she skipped off saying 'You're welcome Mommy.'

She smiled some and kept him close. “Oh I remember you wouldn’t leave me and my friend alone. We finally had to tell you guys we weren’t even 18.” She giggled and pecked his cheek. “But I remember thinking that I wanted to see you again, you were pretty goofy looking back then but you made up for it with your personality.” She teased him gently, “Olus I thought I was the coolest for having a boyfriend who was 25.” She smiled, kissing his cheek and just holding onto him gently. “If you need to sleep Pedro, go back to sleep.” She murmured frowning a little at the pain on his face.

He smiled shaking his head at her, tensing when he heard Lizzie call her mom. Eventually he looked over at max, trying desperately to gauge her reaction. “Maybe it... maybe it was just reflex?” He asked her chewing on his lip. “If... if it’s a problem I’ll talk to her.” He promised just terrified of Lizzie scaring her off by accident. Not after how far they’d come.

Pedro gave a small laugh and nodded "Yeaj those were good times." He said softly before he closed his eyes tight "I'm sorry Mí Amor...I'm just sleepy.." he said quietly before he started drifting off

Max looked at him with a big smile feeling her heart swell some "She called me Mommy..." she whispered letting a few happy tears fall before hugging him tightly

She frowned just laying with him and smoothing his hair back worrying about him and answering some work emails from clients, watching his breathing get more shallow over the next hour or so.

Richard relaxed seeing her response and smiled at her, pecking her cheek. “I’m just glad you’re okay with that.” He murmured softly to her “I love you. Both of you very very much.”

Max smiled happily and kissed him lovingly "I love you too." She said softly cupping his cheeks "You know I've always wanted to be a mom, even if I didn't give birth to her I still care for Lizzie."

Pedro grunted and started wheezing badly as he started to loose his breath sending his monitors into a frenzy

Carmen frowned and jumped up, panicking and hitting a call button while she moved to the corner of the room, allowing them to move her out of there once they came in to sort him out, sitting in the hallway with her head in her hands.

He smiled some and kissed her forehead swaying with her a little. “That’s one of the best things I’ve heard all day yknow.” He smiled tiredly at her.

Max gave a small laugh "Oh yeah?" She asked stroking his cheek gently "What would you like for dinner?" She asked quietly

The nurse came out to her and let her in giving a small sigh "Looks like his lung started to collapse again. Thankfully we caught it in time." She explained to her

Carmen just nodded and frowned some, biting down on her lip as she wandered back into the room, sitting next to his bed seeing he was awake again now and just held his hand tightly. “You scared me Pedge.”

He smiled and shrugged. “Don’t mind. I’m not all that hungry to be honest, I’m gonna go jump in the shower anyway, I’ll be back in a minute.” He murmured, pecking her cheek and went to get cleaned up.

Max nodded some and went on making dinner for herself and Lizzie. Once she got her to bed she came into the room to find Richard laying in bed watching TV in just his boxers "She's asleep handsome."

Pedro frowned softly and kissed her hand gently "I'm sorry....I didn't mean to." He said quietly placing his hand on her cheek

He reached for her quietly, sighing a little. “Cmere.” He mumbled, pulling her into his arms and holding onto her tightly. “I’m being deployed to Germany for three months.” He explained quietly. “They won’t let me take you with me though.”

Carmen frowned squeezing his hand. “Just relax... I need you to get better okay? Hey... do you remember when you came to pick me up for a date... just a few months in, and we drove to some quiet spot just off the hiking trail... you told me that you’d be instructed to not be with me anymore and that your supervisors wanted our relationship over?” She asked him softly to keep his mind off the pain she could see on his face.
