Fantasy Let's Chat!! (OOC)

I shall make a character glad you didn’t forget me, but I do have work today tomorrow etc it may take a bit but I’m up for this from what I read before.

Aye, but I'd say 40% will vanish and 30% will drop, then 20% will get busy and the remaining 10% no longer sustain the RP.

If nothing else, this is an eye-opening experience on the state of Fantasy RPs on this site, and what people actually want.
  • Reasonable magic and/or tech where it's supplementary, not the focus
  • Creative freedom
  • A world worth building
  • A concept that's not overly complicated
  • Balanced equipment

Even if it ultimately fails, I've learned a lot before we even started

is there any kind of starting location in mind or is it kind of a 'first person who posts sets the scene' kind of deal?
(would be awkward if different people posted about wildly different places at roughly the same time)

I still need to make a second character actually ^^ I'll be attaching it to the first

I like your optimism. Although...another form of highly popular simple-non-overly complex RP would be...the school ones. BUT, I like that the setting isn't one of those. Although, I am curious about magic. I've been working on toning down magic characters of my own and building more magic complexity as safety nets to prevent ease of access to the arcane arts as well as a way to prevent them from being OPed. All while keeping it open if you need someone to handle magic lore, I can do that easy. As well as give it a reason to be uncommon. World building abilities are polished.

Magic lore isn't easy, so over-simplifying it won't help. Simplified and free magic creates people who create powerful abilities without consequence, and it allows people to give people excuses for giving magic in the first place. Magic does not have to be a focus, but it is a rather subjective power. And if you disagree, I'll say this: Are the rules governing the whole world such as Politics, Government, Economics, Physics, or even Chemistry any simpler?

Anyhow, I didn't come to debate, but I do still have that offer on potential magic lore if you ever want it. ;)

Sorry for the pessimism, I intended it as a joke in some ways, but it got serious, so I'll politely ask and say this: It's your RP, your word is law, so no more fuel to this criticism please.

*wanted the RP to start before I went to sleep but I have to sleep in like 10 minutes otherwise I’ll be up too late*

Posted a starting place in my first character post

So we all start in the same location?
I figure you don't have to, though youd probably have to
1) start somewhere else but you may have to come in later as a result
or
2) same as 1, except maybe you can see if other people are interested in starting in your new area

Out of curiosity....is this still open?

Edit: Stupid question! Hah, I'll write up a character soon. Just gotta decide on what I want to create.

Xander is finished. Sorry about the history. I sorta got too into writing it, and when I finally realized that I was writing too much, I was already on eight paragraphs. I had to cut it and try to summarize the ending, so it flows rather abruptly. ^^"

Could I make magic lore this way by chance?
Feel free to

Telling from the lack of magic amongst most the CS I've accepted already (only one having theoretically powerful magic), magic being uncommon, or at bare minimum, requiring heavy formal training, shouldn't be hard to write.

I write magic to be uncommon or extremely hard to learn quite easily. People are always gonna try to circumvent the system. For example, I have another RP, Titans of the Lost World, where I had mana regeneration eliminated by the humans awakening a sleeping Ancient God. The lack of mana regeneration pretty much destroys the ability to increase magic ability and magic skill. The only way to restore mana is via mana potions. However, since the entire world is now in desperate need of them, mana potions pretty much became a valuable as Myhtril in about 6 months. The price of a run of the mill mana potion can get you a good set of Steel Armor, while something like a Big Mana Potion can get you Enchanted Elven Glass or Ebony Armor. It's THAT valuable and, after a year (which is when my RP takes place) THAT rare.

It's a fairly simple change that cuts magic ability inherently in half, meaning that if you're not a dedicated mage, your magic ability, even if you're fairly decent in normal circumstances, is low intermediate at BEST, and you'll suffer in terms of physical ability. I look for fairly creative ways to go about limiting the use of magic, because at the end of the day, especially in fantasy writing and fantasy movies that have magic, it's supposed to be supplementary, not the focus. In the Video Game world, if magic is a focus, physical ability suffers

People will always try to circumvent the system though
