Skyla put a finger on her chin in thought. It was a big step in thinking of a name for what essentially seemed like a pet. She stood there for a minute as Yaxas looked at her with anticipation. After a minute or two of deliberation, Skyla spoke, "How about... Tourmaline? Since you have pink fur and a Tourmaline's color can be pink."

Tourmaline jumped with excitement and joy, "(I love it! My name is Tourmaline~!)" Tourmaline jumped into Skyla's arms and Skyla instinctively hugged the little sprite, "By the way, Tourmaline, are you a girl or a boy?" Tourmaline looked at Skyla with a shocked look but it was clearly was a joking way, "(Tourmaline is offended! How can master not know??)" Skyla fumbled her words, "Wh- I'm sorry, it's just so hard to tell and-" Skyla realized, "Wait... you're teasing me aren't aren't you?" Tourmaline nodded, "(Tourmaline is a male Yaxas! Actually, most of us Yaxas are male, which is why we're so rare in the first place.)"

Julius looked at Eliezer, "Well, Rei's been ranked at SS. Not many are that strong or good enough to take him on."

Sia crossed her leg one over the other, "Seems we need to implicate more strict rulesets. Something like members must take on at least 2 or 3 a week. Higher ranks get a little more leniency on par with the difficulty of the bounty." Julius looked at Sia and nodded, "It's a good start, aye." He looked to Eliezer, "Well, my French speaking friend, your thoughts?"

Meanwhile...The location was what seemed like a dusty warehouse. There were a couple of guys patrolling between the aisles of boxes, some empty and some full, "Well? What's the haul this week?" One guy said, he had a low and sinister voice. "I dunno, man. Rei's been acting a little strange lately. I mean, ordering us to find these strange gears and shit? The fuck's that all about?" The second guy replied, his voice was gruff and could cut through the air. "Man, when are we gonna see action? Like real action? I can't sit in this dusty fucking warehouse all day, my trigger finger icthin', man."

The second guy smacked the first guy upside the head, "Don't you go causin' trouble for us now, we don't need that attention from the Guard much less those panzies in the Bounty Hunter association. You make trouble for us now, it'll be a hundred time harder to move the product through here. So just relax and wait for orders like a good little boy, 'kay?" The first guy rubbed the back of his and groaned as they both continued walking.

"Mhm! And now you're stuck with me!" Pebbla smiled.

Rai smiled back awkwardly. "Haha...yeah."

Eliezer nodded, his voice calm and steady. "I thinkโ€”"

He stopped.

Sniff. Sniff.

His nose twitched, subtle but deliberate, like a predator catching the faintest scent on the wind. The air had shifted โ€” a familiar trace threading its way through the room.

Eliezer's jaw tightened. He didnโ€™t look up. He didnโ€™t need to.

"Magnus," he muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose, his voice carrying the weight of someone too tired for surprise.

From somewhere above, a voice broke the silence โ€” light, amused.

"Come on, man. Thatโ€™s cheating."

A soft chuckle followed. From the dark corner of the ceiling, a figure stirred โ€” a shadow within shadows. Magnus.

He moved before anyone could blink, slipping from his perch and landing without a sound, his feet kissing the floor. In an instant, he was gone again, a blur of motion, reappearing beside Eliezer. An elbow lazily draped over Eliezerโ€™s shoulder.

"Oh sure, Julius," Magnus said, his grin audible. "Iโ€™ll join the conversation. Thanks for the warm invitation."

He leaned in slightly, casting a sly glance at Sia. "Hiya, Sia."

Then, without missing a beat: "Since you guys clearly need my genius... I say we up the stakes."

His tone was light, but there was a sharpness beneath it โ€” a competitive edge.

"Set a quota," Magnus continued, fingers drumming idly on Eliezerโ€™s shoulder. "Make 'em hit a certain number of bounties โ€” minimums, whatever. But add bonuses for the real go-getters. Extra cash for whoever bags the most, or the fastest." His grin widened. "Or, you know... whoever grabs the highest-profile target first."

Magnusโ€™s hand slipped off Eliezerโ€™s shoulder, and he zipped a few steps away โ€” fast, fluid, always moving.

"Not that it matters," he added with a playful shrug. "I know Iโ€™ll be the one cashing in on all those bonuses anyway."

The words hung in the air โ€” half a joke, half a challenge.

Celestius chuckled lightly, "Come on you two. Let's continue onward." Skyla nodded and let Yaxas onto her shoulder and followed Celestius.

The three walked until they came upon a shack perched on some rocks. They all decided to head inside when they ran into someone. A woman who wore a witch's hat and attire you would not assign as typical 'desert-y' attire. She sat on some boxes and looked at everyone who had entered the shack.

Celestius sighed, he knew who this woman was, "Oh... you..." Skyla tilted her head, "Who is she?" The woman decided to introduce herself, "I am Samantha Igris. My crewmates call me Madam Igris though. You three may call me whatever you like." Her voice was a bit sultry but also young, "She leads the local faction that opposes Shin and his tyranny."

Meanwhile, both Pebbla and Yaxas would sense another Sprite's presence but they wouldn't be able to determine where it was coming from, "(Pebbla, do you feel that?)" Yaxas asked Pebbla.

Samantha looked at Celestius, "Oh and Celes... that was such a cold reception. I thought we had something special." She said in a playful, almost flirty tone to which Celestius just sighed, "I sense a bit of tension here..." Skyla said, awkwardly to which Samantha laughed, "Fufufu~, I just hadn't seen ol' Celes here for soooo~ long, that lil old me was getting very, very lonely without him~." Celestius pinched the bridge of his nose, "As callous as she is... she's the only one who can help you guys find what you're looking for." He looked at Skyla and Rai, "I'll find you two when you're suited for this place." He looked at Samantha and sighed, "Take care of them, please."

Samantha placed a finger on the rim of her hat and tilted it forward, "Anything for my darling, Celes." She said looking back up at him with a flirtatious grin. By the time Rai and Skyla looked at Samantha then back at Celestius, he was already gone. Now there was more confusion then anything. Samantha opened the door and looked at the sky, it was getting dark, "We'll stay here for the night, we'll make for the Resistance's headquarter in the morning." With that, Samantha walked over and sat down on the crates, crossing one leg over the other. At the same time, the Sprite that Pebbla and Yaxas felt emerged from the wand on Samantha's hip, only it didn't just emerge... it WAS the wand.

Sia gave Magnus a little wave, "Hey, Magnus~."

Julius glanced at Magnus, "You want us to start handing out commissions for people who have completed bounties?" Sia thought for a moment, "It's not a terrible idea, Julius." Julius sighed in defeat, "No... No it's not." He pointed at Rei's poster and looked at Magnus, "You you'd be cashing in on all of those bonuses right? Why not start with Rei's bounty? It'll be a good match for you, Magnus, don't you think?" Julius grinned lightly.

In an instant, the flyer was in Magnusโ€™s hand. His eyes flicked over it, scanning the details.

"Oh, this guy?" Magnusโ€™s voice was light, but there was an edge beneath it. "I've already tried lookingโ€”he's like a ghost. No trace of him. How'd you even get his scent, Eliezer?"

Eliezer's gaze drifted back to the flyer. His fingers tapped the edge, slow and thoughtful. "I'm not sureโ€ฆ it justโ€ฆ caught my nose one night. Faint. Almost like it didnโ€™t want to be found."

Magnus hummed, his thumb trailing the paper's crease. "Well, I've checked every inch of the area. The guyโ€™s not here." He leaned back, but his jaw tightenedโ€”just for a secondโ€”before his usual smirk slipped back into place. "Maybe he operates outside Ironshire and just sends his lackeys to do the dirty work."

Magnus tossed the paper back onto the table, stretching lazily.

"Yeah, I can," he smirked. "But Iโ€™m not doing it just 'cause you said so. If I did that, Iโ€™d be as soft as Eliezer."

Eliezer blinked, his expression tightening. "Whโ€”What?" A faint flush crept onto his face. "Iโ€™m notโ€” Iโ€™m just... happy to help."

He quickly cleared his throat, shifting his posture as if physically shaking off the jab. "Even so, catching scents isnโ€™t as simple as just sniffing the air and pointing. I need descriptionsโ€”how strong or weak it is, distinct or muddled, good or bad. Comparisons. Anything carrying their scent. Their last known locations. Filtering out everything else in the air isnโ€™t easy."

Magnus hummed, then suddenly clapped Eliezer on the back, making him jolt slightly. "Yeah, yeah, cut the guy some slack. He may be easy to push around, but when it comes to this scent stuff, heโ€™s sharp. If you donโ€™t have real info to give, donโ€™t waste his time."

Skyla smiled, "Well, I'm sure this'll be the last time we have to blindly put our trust in someone." With that, Skyla went to lay down, "It's late though, we should get some sleep, yeah?"

After a few minutes, Skyla had fallen asleep, her mind was blank at first but after a few minutes she began to dream. There was a gruesome scene before her. Sand all around her and people on the ground crawling for their lives. All the destruction cause by a single man. A man in black armor wielding a scythe. As Skyla tried to look at him, her vision blurred before she jolted awake back in the real world.

August 30th, 1337.
Morning
Skyla was breathing a bit heavily, thats when Samantha commented, "Bad dream?" Skyla looked at her in surprise but then nodded, "How did you--?" Samantha got down from her crate, "There's more to me then meets the eye. Your friend knows that already doesn't he?" As she was talking, there was an Ice Sprite checking out Skyla as if out of concern, "Hey, Blizzara, leave her alone will you?" Blizzara jumped in surprise then bolted back behind Samantha, "(Sorry, Master. I was concerned that's all.)" Samantha nodded. Samantha held out her hand which caused Blizzara to transform into the wand that was on Samantha's hip earlier.

Skyla looked a bit surprised, "Wait, that was your Sprite? Did it turn into your weapon?" Samantha looked at Skyla with confusion then over to Rai, "Did not you not know they could do that?"

Julius gave Magnus a knowing smile, "Oh, I know full well what Eliezer is capable of. That was more directed you." His expression turned into something a little for devious, "It'll turn into the perfect chance to yourself, no?"

Sia looked at Julius and pinched his cheeks, "You've got that weird look on your face again, Julius." Which made Julius snap out of it, "Shia... shtap it" His words came out a bit weird due to having his cheek pinched currently. "You really shouldn't treat Magnus like that." She said in a soft yet stern tone. Sia let go of Julius' cheek and sighed then looked at Magnus and Eliezer, "Of course we wouldn't send you on an impossible task like that." Her tone was much softer. She walked over to them and gave them both a pat on the head, "We'll think of another to take down Rei and we'll do it together. All four of us, okay?" Julius sat in the background rubbing his cheek.

Rai lay on the couch, deep in sleep, his soft snores barely breaking the silence of the room. His body sprawled in a relaxed tangle of limbs, the couch offering little support, but it didnโ€™t seem to matter. One arm hung loosely over the side, fingers brushing the floor, while the other rested beneath his head like a makeshift pillow. His chest rose and fell with steady, rhythmic breaths, and his face, usually sharp and vigilant, was softened in slumber. A faint crease in his brow hinted at some lingering thoughts, but for the moment, he was at peaceโ€”completely unaware of the world around him.

From across the room, Skyla and Samanthaโ€™s conversation drifted through the air, the soft murmur of their voices mixing with the ambient noise from outside. They spoke in hushed tones, the subject of their chat irrelevant to Raiโ€™s dreams. Oblivious, he remained lost in his sleep, the noise around him nothing more than background static.

The dim light from the lamp above cast gentle shadows across his face, adding an almost ethereal quality to the scene. His lips were parted slightly, his expression relaxed.

Magnus slouched back in his chair with a lazy sigh, finally kicking his feet up on the table. "Eh, I could do it myself, but I'm sure that'd be too boring." He gave a half-shrug, looking at the others with a bored expression. "Whaddya got as any ideas?"

Eliezer ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply as he gathered his thoughts. "Finding his lackeys, as you called it, would be our best first option. Find them, question them. But even their scents are hard to distinguish. They must know about me. And thus, theyโ€™ve hidden their smell."

Magnus raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. "Then thatโ€™s your fault, right? Isn't no one supposed to know about you? You're supposed to be the secret 'Vulture,' all mysterious and stealthy. Guess you're not so good with secrets, huh?"

Eliezerโ€™s eye twitched. "No," he snapped, his voice tight with irritation. He pinched the bridge of his nose, frustration building. "Mon dieu, must you always cast the blame onto me?"

Magnus shrugged, clearly enjoying the irritation he was causing. "Just saying."

Eliezer winced, his shoulders tensing as he squinted in pain. โ€œAh, ah, okay, okay!โ€

Magnus zipped out of her grip, rubbing his ear with a pout. โ€œHey, I thought I graduated from ear grabs years ago.โ€ He paused, rolling his jaw in thought. โ€œButโ€ฆ sureโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll stop.โ€

A sharp knock at the door cut through the moment. Magnus barely hesitated before blurring forward, swinging it open in an instant.

A short woman stood in the doorway, her warm orange hair a striking contrast to the cool steel of her gray eyes. She barely spared Magnus a glance, her expression unreadable as she reached into the inner pocket of her coat. Magnus tilted his head, watching her with mild curiosity.

โ€œUhโ€ฆ hi?โ€ he muttered.

She didnโ€™t acknowledge the greeting. Instead, she pulled out a brown envelope, the red wax seal glinting under the dim light. Without hesitation, she pressed it against his chest, her fingers lingering just long enough to make sure he wouldnโ€™t drop it.

โ€œFrom Cyan,โ€ she finally spoke, her voice soft yet unwavering. โ€œDeliver this to the heads of the BHA.โ€

Magnus glanced at the envelope, his brow furrowing. He looked back at her. โ€œFrom Cyan?โ€

The woman gave a curt nod. โ€œItโ€™s an urgent matter. Heโ€™d handle it himself, but there are other pressing concerns.โ€

She didnโ€™t wait for a response, turning on her heel and exiting as swiftly as she arrived.

Magnus shut the door and zipped back to the table, already tearing into the envelope. Before he could scan its contents, Eliezer plucked it from his hands.

โ€œShe said for the heads of the BHA,โ€ Eliezer reminded him.

Magnus twisted his face in annoyance but didnโ€™t argue. Eliezer took a breath, glancing around to make sure everyone was paying attention.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”
Eliezer lowered the letter slightly, his eyes scanning the words again before reading aloud:

> My dear allies of the Bounty Hunter Association,

As you know, danger is ever-present in the Rhythm Nation, and while many threats are dealt with swiftly, a new one has emerged that requires your expertise.

There have been multiple reports of a figure with black hair, wielding twin sickles. They strike without warning, leaving no trace behind. Victims have been killed swiftly and silently, with no words exchanged. Survivors have been few, and they have nothing but fear and confusion to offer.

This individual is elusive, moving with precision, and their attacks are becoming more frequent. While the board could handle this, there are more pressing matters.

I am assigning this task to you. Find and neutralize this threat.

Once completed, return to Christine.

Do not let them remain a shadow in our midst.

โ€”Cyan

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

Eliezer lowered the letter, his expression unreadable. Magnus leaned back in his chair, arms folded behind his head. โ€œHuh,โ€ he said, smirking. โ€œWell, that sounds fun.โ€

Sia looked over at Julius, his expression immediately back to cold, "It's obvious that Ironshire is calling upon our contract-- and we are obligated to answer it." He looked ahead towards everyone, his eyes almost glowing from the reflection of the light coming through the window and his expression was serious and cold, "We find, capture and extract information from this mass serial killer. "With black hair," Magnus added.

Eliezer sifted through the pile, his sharp eyes scanning each paper. Then he stopped. A single detail stood out. Snapping his fingers, he pulled out an incident report.

"Here. August 14th, late midnight." Eliezer muttered as he read, his eyes moving back and forth. "...burns...mangled... here! A witness said, 'it looked like they attacked with gardening tools.'" He looked up. "Sickles are also used for gardening, yes?"

Magnus nodded, putting his arm over Eliezerโ€™s shoulder. "Yeah. You think that's

Eliezer nodded. "Yes. I saw this report before but only recently put out a bounty. No one took it. But now, we have reason to go deeper into this." He read over the paper again. "'Miller's Floral Store' on Wright Road. If we go there, maybe I can find a trace of their scent."

With that, everyone left and made their way to the town. As they got closer, they could see the buildings, they were made of various stones and bricks., Adorning the roofs and wals were various decorations, which not only served a practical purpose but also a visual one. Surprisingly, the village stood on the sand which was supposed to be impossible but the reason would soon become clear when the plaza came into view. At the center was a large golden crystal that was covered in various decorative ribbons surrounded at its base by a fountain. The area around the crystal seemed to be a bustling market area.

Skyla looked around as they walked into the village. Samantha glanced back at Rai and Skyla, smiling, "Welcome to the village of Frosmuth. One of the few remaining villages in the nation."

Eliezer grabbed his mask, securing the flowers inside. He closed his eyes, taking a long, calming inhale of their fragrance. "Letโ€™s go," he muttered, his voice muffled.

...

The group made their way toward the floral shop. Magnus, ever the show-off, zipped ahead, leaving the others behind in his wake. Meanwhile, Eliezer, Sia, and Julius kept to a hidden path. It was always too risky to walk openly. Theyโ€™d either be swarmed by fans or worse, ambushed by enemies. Sure, Sia and Magnus could handle themselves, but Eliezer preferred the quiet route. His team respected that.

When they arrived, they found the floral shop tucked away between two tall buildings, almost hidden from view. The shop's weathered wooden door creaked as they pushed it open. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of blooming flowersโ€”roses, lilies, daisies, and something earthy that hinted at fresh soil. The walls were lined with shelves, each filled with vases of various sizes, some with freshly cut flowers and others with dried arrangements. The faint sound of a wind chime jingled softly from the corner, the only noise besides their footsteps.

Magnus was already perched on the rooftop, holding a rose between his fingers. At the sight of them, he tossed it down to Eliezer, who caught it with a practiced flick of his wrist.

"Smells good, huh?" Magnus teased.

"Real subtle," Eliezer replied dryly, inspecting the rose. Magnus didnโ€™t careโ€”he never did. He dropped down from the rooftop in a fluid motion.

โ€œThereโ€™s an old couple inside,โ€ Magnus continued, cracking his knuckles. โ€œSia and Juliusโ€”no, scratch that. Julius, youโ€™d scare them. Sia and I will handle the interrogation. Eliezer, you and Julius search the area for that scent.โ€

Eliezer glanced at Julius, offering him a reassuring smile. "Ignore him. You know how he is." He patted Juliusโ€™s shoulder. "Letโ€™s focus. Weโ€™ve got work to do. Help me search the area."

Samantha looked at Rai, "That's the geoculus crystal. Keeps the devouring sands at bay. They were a gift from the Earth dragons long ago. They keep us alive in this hostile land."

Skyla looked at Samantha, "Earth Dragons?" Samantha nodded, "The early settlers made deals with the dragons, in exchange for protection, the dragons, with the help of power from the God of the Earth, created those crystals. they essentially 'calm down' the otherwise living nature of the desert." As they walked through the plaza, they came across a pair of girls. The same ones that they saw earlier.

They ended up bumping into Skyla, knocking her and the girl in green over, "Tch, watch your asses." Said the girl in green. The girl in red smacked the girl in green in the head, watch the girl exclaimed with surprise. "Watch yourself, sister." She then went to help Skyla up, "Sorry about that, we weren't watching where we were going." After helping Skyla up, she looked over to girl in green, "Isn't that right, Juniper?" She said sternly, to which Juniper turned her head, "Yeah, whatever." Skyla rubbed her butt a bit and dismissively waved her hand, "It's fine... accidents happen." The girl in red covered her mouth, "Oh shit! Where are my manners, my name is Kiyoko." She pointed to Juniper, "And that one is called Juniper."

Samantha clicked her tongue, "What are you two doing here...?" Kiyoko shook her head, "No, no... he doesn't know we're here... we came to... shop around, I guess." Samantha narrowed her eyes for a minute and sighed, "Fine, but don't cause any trouble, else i'll have to kick you out, understood?" Kiyoko nodded, "Loud and clear, ma'am." Kiyoko and juniper turned to walk away. Kiyoko looked as she walked and gave Skyla and Rai a wink, "See you around."

"Keep looking, Julius. I need a moment." Eliezer exhaled, steadying himself.

He closed his eyes, savoring the floral scent one last time before bringing his hands to the beak of his witch doctor mask. Slowly, he pulled it down.

The moment the cool air hit his face, his world exploded.

An onslaught of scents crashed into him all at onceโ€”some pleasant, some neutral, and some downright rancid. It was like opening a thousand doors at once, each revealing a different, overpowering aroma. The sharp sting of sweat. The cloying sweetness of crushed petals. The faint rot of something decaying nearby. The metallic tang of blood, long dried but still present.

Eliezer flinched hard, his breath hitching as his body instinctively recoiled. His eyes watered, his stomach twisted. His fingers twitched toward his mask as if to put it back on, but he forced them still. Respirez simplement. Acceptez-le, Eliezer.

Breathe. Accept it.

He clenched his jaw and forced himself to inhale again, slower this time, sorting through the chaos. Little by little, his mind began to filter the unnecessaryโ€”sweat from a passerby, the lingering scent of coffee on Juliusโ€™s breath, the ham sandwich Magnus had eaten earlier.

Focus.

Now, the finer details emerged. Roses, tulips, and magical flowers from beyond the wallsโ€”Honeywells, their scent light and delicate. The earthy musk of Siaโ€™s clothing, the faintest trace of leather and old parchment clinging to Julius. The floorboards carried hints of soil and damp wood, remnants of past rain.

His heartbeat slowed. The nausea settled.

He could smell it all.

โ€œShhh! You said you wouldnโ€™t say a word about Pearl!โ€ he whisper-yelled, glancing over his shoulder like someone might overhear.

After a few seconds, he pulled his hand away. โ€œI see youโ€™ve got jokes, but seriouslyโ€ฆ hush.โ€

With that, he pushed open the door to the floral shop. The moment he stepped inside, a wave of scent crashed over himโ€”sweet, fresh, with a hint of damp earth. Magnus inhaled dramatically, hands on his hips.

โ€œAww man. Smells better than fresh cash and victory,โ€ he sighed, humming in pleasure.

The shop was neatly arranged, each shelf lined with carefully placed flowers, potted plants, and even a few exotic varieties Magnus didnโ€™t recognize. The air carried a faint humidity, like a greenhouse, and the wooden floor creaked softly beneath his boots.

To the right, a little girlโ€”no older than tenโ€”stood precariously on a stool at the reception counter. She had black hair, pale skin, and striking blue eyes that darted between them nervously. She hesitated, then lifted a shaky hand in an awkward wave.

โ€œHiโ€ฆ w-welcome to Millerโ€™s Floral,โ€ she squeaked. Her gaze flickered between Magnus and Sia, uncertainty in her eyes. โ€œUhโ€ฆ m-may I suggestโ€ฆ the coupleโ€™s b-bundle?โ€

Magnus strutted over to the counter, resting an elbow on it.

โ€œNah, weโ€™re not a couple. Sheโ€™s nearly old enough to be my mom.

The little girl stared, wide-eyed, before fumbling with the register buttons in a panic. โ€œIโ€”I meanโ€”uh! Not that you look like a couple! I justโ€”sometimes peopleโ€”umโ€”โ€

Magnus waved her off with a chuckle. โ€œRelax, kid, Iโ€™m messing with her.โ€

Then, his tone shifted slightlyโ€”casual, but a little more focused. โ€œWeโ€™re actually here on business. Where are your parents?โ€

โ€œRight here, sir.โ€

Magnus turned to see a middle-aged man stepping out of the back room. He had brown hair peppered with streaks of gray, and he held a gardening glove in one hand, absently slapping it against his palm. His sharp eyes swept over them before he removed his hat and held it to his chest.

โ€œHow may I help you?โ€

Magnus glanced at Sia.

Eliezer inhaled deeply, sifting through the layers of scent in the air. The sharp tang of fertilizer. The dampness of freshly watered plants. The musky odor of a wet dog blocks away. Thenโ€”something else.

Faint. Almost too faint.

His brow furrowed as he turned slowly in place, nostrils flaring. The scent was barely there, slipping between the others like a whisper in a crowd. He inhaled again, filtering out the distractions.

Itโ€™s highโ€ฆ somewhere aboveโ€ฆ

His eyes lifted to the sky. No, not that high.

Then, his gaze settled on the rooftop of the floral shop. There.

Without hesitation, he strode toward the building and pressed a palm against the wall, testing its surface. His foot found the edge of a window frame, and he pushed upโ€”

Slip.

His boot scraped against the wall, sending him stumbling back down. He clenched his teeth. Another attemptโ€”grip, pushโ€”too steep. His knee hit the ground as he lost balance. He let out a quiet hiss of frustration.

A sigh left him as he pushed himself up, brushing nonexistent dust from his coat. Only then did he glance toward Julius.

Julius was staring.

Eliezerโ€™s face heated. He cleared his throat, forcing himself to straighten. โ€œAhemโ€ฆ m-may I get a little help? I need to get on the roof.โ€

Skyla nodded along with Rai, "Yeah, fill us in on this Shin fellow, Miss Samantha." Before Samantha could open her mouth, Celestius appeared, "Pardon the intrusion." His sudden announcement and arrival made Samantha jump in surprise, "Geez~. Celes, don't do that!!" Samantha exclaimed.

Celestius bowed, "Apologies. I figured that I should take over explaining who Shin is." Samantha sighed in defeat, "Sigh~, fine... taking my spotlight. You're mean, Celes." She said, plopping her butt on the bed next to the Rai's bed, crossing one leg over the other. Skyla also got comfortable as Celestius prepared to tell the story of Shin, "There's an ancient legend about two great dragon brothers; the Dragon of the North Wind and the Dragon of the South Wind." As he said this, Celestius used a bit of his power to effectively make a little representation of the dragon tale he was about to tell and the room artificially darkened a bit. The Dragon of the North Wind was a long snow white serpent of eastern origin and the Dragon of the South Wind was a long turquoise serpent of the same origin. Both dragons shared the same facial features.

"Together they upheld the balance and harmony of the heavens." Celestius' face was illuminated for a moment, "But the two brothers argued over who could better rule their land. Their quarrel turned to rage and their violent struggle darkened the skies--" As he said this, an artificial storm cloud flashed artificial lightning across the room, causing no damage to any part of the room, "--until the Dragon of the North Wind struck down his brother, who fell to earth, shattering the land." As he said this, the representation of the dragon showed the white dragon strike down the turquoise dragon causing the dragon to disappear entirely from the representation.

Celestius' face was lit up once more, "The Dragon of the North Wind had triumphed--" The artificial storm calmed down and eventually dissipated as the next part came up, "--but as time passed and he realized his solitude; the sweetness of victory turned into ash." There was a moment's pause, as if Celestius was struggling to recall the story, "For years, the bereft dragon's grief threw the land into discord--" The little projections showed the white dragon in visible sorrow and grief at the loss of his brother, "--and he knew only bitterness and sorrow."

Samantha looked down as she found looking at Celestius' face hard as her recalled the story, "But one day... a stranger called up to the dragon and asked: 'O' Dragon Lord, why are you so distraught?' The Dragon told him: 'Seeking power, I killed my brother but without him, I am lost.'" The little projections showed a hooded stranger standing on a rock- the same rock that Skyla stood on earlier- and conversing with the Dragon, "The stranger replied: 'You have inflicted wounds upon yourself, but now, you must heal. Walk the earth on two feet as I do. Find value in humility, then you will find peace.'" As he finished, the projections disappeared as if the story wasn't finished yet or was still being written. Celestius looked at Rai and Skyla, "Can you guess who was who?" He asked in a somewhat somber tone, "Shin was the dragon who struck down his brother all those years ago. However, it was Shin who decided to resort to this violence and take over this nation."

The girl didnโ€™t hesitate, quickly hurrying out. Once she was gone, Miller let out a long, weary sigh and leaned back against the wall. His fingers drummed against the wooden counter before he finally spoke.

โ€œIt was terribleโ€ฆ terrible, terrible, I tell you.โ€ His voice was low, almost a whisper, as if speaking any louder would summon the horror back. โ€œYou remember the festival a few weeks ago? That day, the floral store was packed. So many people came to buy flowers. I worked for hours, barely had time to breathe.โ€

He gave a small, nostalgic smile as he recalled the successful business. โ€œI got so tired, I fell asleep in the back room. By the time I woke upโ€ฆ it was past midnight.โ€

---

August 16th, 1337

2:14 AM.

The floral shop was bathed in darkness. All of Ironshire was asleep after the festival, lost in peaceful dreams. So was Miller. He lay on the floor, using his hat as a pillow, snoring softly.

A thud echoed above him.

Millerโ€™s eyes snapped open. He blinked groggily, trying to shake off the fog of sleep. Another thud.

His brows furrowed. He sat up, rubbing his face. What was that?

Grumbling, he stretched his aching limbs and yawned. โ€œEris and the kids are probably worried sickโ€ฆโ€ he muttered, shaking his head as he stood.

He reached for the door handle, ready to head homeโ€”

Thud.

Miller froze. This time, he was fully awake. The sound wasnโ€™t coming from outside. It was coming from above.

He tilted his head up, listening closely. Footsteps. Slow, deliberate, pacing across the rooftop.

His jaw tightened. โ€œDamn banditsโ€ฆโ€ he muttered under his breath.

Steeling himself, he slipped into the back room and grabbed a pitchfork. He gripped it tight, feeling its rough wooden handle dig into his palms. Then, he hurried back to the front doorโ€”

And stopped dead in his tracks.

A single drop of blood landed on the welcome mat.

Millerโ€™s heart stuttered. He swallowed hard, his knuckles turning white around the pitchforkโ€™s handle. Slowly, his gaze lifted to the ceiling. Another drop fell. And another. The thick scent of iron filled his nostrils.

His legs moved on instinct, carrying him backward step by step.

Then, an idea. He turned and quietly climbed the wooden ladder leading to the small observatory above the shop. It was a glass dome, filled with plants and flowersโ€”his favorite spot. But tonight, he wasnโ€™t here to admire the scenery.

He crouched low, peering through the glass.

Thatโ€™s when he saw him.

A lone figure stood on the rooftop. He was tall, athletic, his long dark hair swaying gently in the night breeze. His skin was pale, almost ghostly under the moonlight.

But what struck Miller most were the sickles in his handsโ€”one red, one blue, with dark vein-like patterns running along them, pulsating as if they were alive.

Miller barely noticed the weapons at first. His eyes were locked on what lay at the manโ€™s feet.

Three bodies.

Bloodied. Battered. Burned.

One man was clearly dead, his throat slashed open, blood pooling beneath him. The second was still twitching, his body convulsing in its final moments. The third? Untouched. Alive. But frozen in terror.

Millerโ€™s stomach churned. His grip on the windowsill trembled.

Then, the figure moved.

He grabbed the second manโ€”one who was still breathingโ€”by the collar and yanked him upright. The manโ€™s lips parted in a silent scream.

And then, with a swift, brutal motion, the figure drove his sickle up through the man's jaw.

Millerโ€™s breath hitched. The blade pierced through, its curved tip splitting the manโ€™s jaw in half, pushing through the roof of his mouth. A sickening squelch filled the air. Blood gushed down his chin in thick, heavy streams.

Miller clamped a hand over his mouth, his stomach lurching.

The killer didnโ€™t stop. He wrenched the sickle forward, the motion tearing the jaw apart, leaving it dangling in two gory halves. The man gurgled, writhing, until he finally went limp.

The last survivor scrambled to his feet, desperate to flee.

He didnโ€™t make it two steps before a sickle plunged into his back.

Miller watched, paralyzed, as the figure lifted the man into the air, the curved blade still embedded in his spine. Then, with terrifying strength, he brought the second sickle downโ€”slashing into his collarbone.

The sound of cracking bone and tearing flesh filled the night. The manโ€™s body spasmed violently as his throat was ripped open, a gruesome display of raw power.

The figure let the corpse drop. A sickening thud echoed through the rooftop. Blood splattered across the tiles like raindrops.

Then, silence.

Millerโ€™s whole body shook. His pulse pounded in his ears. He shouldโ€™ve looked away. He shouldโ€™ve run.

But his eyes remained locked on the killer.

The figure crouched down beside the first manโ€”the one he had left untouched. His cocked his head slightly, as if observing whaf he had done. He whispered something. Miller couldn't hear it, but he could see the way his lips moved, as if uttering a final prayer.

Then, suddenlyโ€”

The figureโ€™s head snapped up.

Millerโ€™s breath caught in his throat.

The man was looking directly at him.

Miller ducked, his heart hammering, his body shaking so violently he nearly knocked over a crate. He pressed himself against the wall, holding his breath. He stayed there, frozen, for what felt like hours.

Finally, after gathering enough courage, he peeked back out.

The rooftop was empty.

The killerโ€ฆ and the bodiesโ€ฆ were gone.

---

Present Day

Miller exhaled shakily, his hands trembling as he gripped the counter. โ€œWhen I checked that spot on the roof, it was completely clean. No blood. No bodies. Nothing. I donโ€™t know how he did it. But I swear on my life, I saw it with my own two eyes.โ€

He looked at Magnus and Sia with wild, desperate eyes. โ€œI reported it to the Ironshire guard that night. Butโ€ฆ I guess they sent you instead.โ€

Magnus exhaled through his nose, rubbing the back of his neck. โ€œDamnโ€ฆ thatโ€™s brutal.โ€ He glanced at Sia, as if gauging her reaction. โ€œDo you have any idea why he killed those men?โ€

Miller shook his head frantically. โ€œNo. And I donโ€™t want to know. Whatever they did to deserve thatโ€ฆ itโ€™s none of my business.โ€

For a moment, there was silence. Then, Miller leaned forward, gripping the counter so tightly his knuckles went white.

โ€œPlease. Keep this between us.โ€ His voice was barely above a whisper, filled with raw fear. โ€œIf he finds out I told youโ€ฆ Iโ€ฆ I have a family.โ€

She backed away a few steps, "Sorry about scaring you earlier, I kinda get in the moment and it makes me scary." Sia turned to walk out, "Come on Magnus, let's go see how-" Sia took a step and-

Drip.

Sia felt a sharp pain through her abdomen.

Another drip.

There was a sword tip sticking out of Sia's back. Sia managed to lift her head, her vision going in and out focus. She slid off the sword and fell to the ground on her back. Before them stood a rather well dressed man with a bloodied sword, "I heard from a few little birdies that the Bounty Hunter's top brass were going around asking questions." The man who stood before them?

Rei Yuki.

Rei took sword and cleaned off the blood, "Of course, I just came here to buy some flowers. Never expected to run into Sia here." He looked over to Magnus, his eyes were like daggers as he stared at him before he turned his attention to the Floral shop owner then over to the blood soaked Magnolia that was on Sia's hair. He leaned over and grabbed it then turned around and walked out of the shop, "Tell the others... i'll be waiting for them once you deal with her and your current target." He left and before anyone could chase him, he vanished as quickly as he appeared. It was clever, he left Sia critically injured so that Magnus couldn't chase without leaving Sia and letting her die and even if he did, Rei would've been too fast for even Magnus to catch up. This was, however, a warning. A challenge.

Sia was still laying on the ground, still breathing but weakly and her breaths were getting shallower, "...Mag... nus..." she struggled to form the the words.

Just as Julius mentioned heading back to the front of the store, the air shifted. A scent cut through everything elseโ€”sharp, suffocating, dripping with malice.

At that exact moment, a figure blurred past, vanishing in an instant. Eliezer barely had time to register the movement before another scent surfaced. Blood.

Eliezer leapt from the roof, landing with a solid thud. He barely had time to steady himself before the floral shop door slammed open. A green blur streaked past him, nearly knocking him off balance. Magnus. The scent pouring off him was thick, suffocating. Rage.

Eliezer turned just in time to see Magnus disappear into the same direction as the attacker.

His pulse pounded as he stepped into the store. Then his breath hitched.

Sia lay sprawled on the floor, her blood soaking into the wood. The metallic scent choked the air, stinging his nose and eyes. His fingers trembled as he yanked his mask over his face and rushed to her side, kneeling beside her.

Bontรฉ!

"Sia!" His voice cracked with urgency. He pressed his hand against the wound on her chest, his breath coming quick. "Sia, stay with me!"

A shuffling noise snapped him out of his panic. Miller, frozen in shock just moments ago, suddenly moved. He bolted into the back room, returning with a handful of vials. He fumbled one open, the liquid sloshing as he brought it to Siaโ€™s lips.

Eliezer caught on immediately, shifting to help prop her up, tilting her back so she could swallow the potion. "Drink, Sia, drink...."

He glanced at Julius, his usual composure completely shattered. His eyes, normally calm and calculating, were uncertain. Afraid.

In the corner, the little girl from before stood stiff, her arms wrapped tightly around herself. Her wide eyes darted between Sia and the blood pooling on the floor. She trembled, her tiny fingers digging into her sleeves as if holding herself together.

The only sound was the ragged breathing of the wounded, the distant echo of footsteps, and the slow, spreading stain of crimson.

Mood: Rage
Magnus Fleming
Whizz
Miller's Floral Store
Magnus had no direction. No leads. No scent. No tracker. All he relied on in that moment was one driving force:

Anger.

A searing, furious rage burned in him, fueling his every movement. His body blurred as he zipped across the city, bouncing off walls, vaulting over crates, and slicing through alleys with such force that the wind itself seemed to howl in his wake. The citizens of Ironshire caught only brief glimpsesโ€”just flashes of green before he was gone, too fast to follow. Their eyes widened in awe and fear.

With each new sector he blitzed through, Magnusโ€™s grip tightened on his katanas. His knuckles were white, his muscles taut with fury. Everything passed by him in a rapid blur of motionโ€”windows, rooftops, and streetsโ€”his green eyes darting wildly from side to side, scanning for the figure he was hunting.

His mind was a tempest, moving as fast as his legs, and yet, every corner, every turn, came up empty. His frustration mounted with each failed lead. His breath came in sharp, angry bursts, his chest rising and falling faster than the cityโ€™s pulse. The scent of the man, the one who had hurt Sia, eluded him, and it only made his rage boil over.

The air around him shimmered from his speed, the pavement cracking underfoot as his feet barely touched the ground. Magnusโ€™s body moved like a blurโ€”too quick to be seen but impossible to ignore. Each step was a calculated explosion of motion, a blur of green against the daylight. It wasnโ€™t just fast; it was relentless. His katanas shimmered in the sunlight as they cut through the air, a reflection of his fury.

The buildings seemed to shrink as he powered through the streets, pushing off from walls and leaping from rooftops without hesitation. But with every dead-end, every empty street, his rage deepened.

With a growl, he shot through another alley, narrowly dodging a vendor's cart, his foot kicking up dust with the force of his movement. He didnโ€™t notice the startled passerby, the children who jumped back, the elderly man who raised a hand in defense. All he saw was the one man who needed to be hunted down.

"He has to go."

The thought pulsed through his veins, his focus narrowing. He was closing in on nothingโ€”his senses were heightened, his legs burning with every leap, but there was no trace.

He came to a sudden halt, chest heaving as he skidded to a stop. His eyes darted from side to side, scanning every inch of the street in front of him. His entire body was tense, fists clenched, and his breath shook with raw, furious energy.

He took a deep breath, trying to center himself, but the frustration only made his heartbeat louder, the rage inside him more ferocious.

Without warning, he took off again, faster than ever, pushing through the city with a newfound urgency. There was no time to waste.

Skyla glanced at Celestius and Samantha, "I don't see them joining our side, to be honest." She pointed out. They both paused, "Yes... but regardless, no more bloodshed." Celestius pleaded.

Skyla sighed, "We've trusted ourselves to one too many people so far... I dont know..."

Sia's lips dried up but as they administer the vials, she began to stabilize. She was now unconscious though and still on the verge of death but stable nonetheless.

Meanwhile, no matter how hard Magnus tried to track this guy, he was nowhere to be found.

Sia's breathing was consistent but very shallow. They needed to get Sia to a proper medical facility now.

Julius Hyze

Julius looked at Sia. Her state. The wound in her abdomen. The vials of liquid that Eliezer was administering. Julius was falling apart. He knelt down, his face momentarily dark as his expression began to normalize on the outside once more. He stood up and looked around, "Hey, where's Magnus?" His voice was empty. He walked out the front door and leaped to the nearby roof.

Boom.

Julius pushed off the roof with such force that was almost as fast as Magnus. His eyes, instead of being rage-filled, were full of sorrow and tears as he leapt at speed trying to catch up to Magnus. Now wasn't the time to be chasing someone.

Boom.

Julius pushed off another roof. Now wasn't the time to try and get revenge.

Bo-- slip.

Julius' footing slipped and he tumbled across the roof he failed to push off of. Instead of getting up, he lay there for a minute, his arm covering his eyes as tears fell. Julius began to cry. Uncertain of whether or not Sia would make it despite being stable for the time being.

Rei came to a stop in the doorway of an abandoned building. He walked in, dusting off his shoulder and sighing, "The Bounty Hunter's top brass knows, my friend." He said, knowing his sickle-wielding friend was nearby. He pinched the bridge of his nose, "This is just what I wanted to avoid. Having them on the case will make so much harder to achieve."

He looked at his blade, "Though I managed to critically injure the girl so... it'll really only be just 2 of those pesky hunters for now."

Eliezer felt a wave of relied wash over him as the bleeding stopped due to the potion. But it wouldn't last long. He had to act fast.

With all the strength he could muster, Eliezer picked up Sia. He cradled her in his arms as he ran to the main street. He moved to the middle of the street and began to call out for help.

"Please!" Eliezer shouted, his voice raw. "She needs a medic, a healer, anyone!"

It was a matter of moments before they were crowded by people offering their help. They were quickly escorted into a cottage where Eliezer set Sia down gently on a table. He stepped back and watched as an elderly woman, an experienced healer, began to tend to Sia. An orange glow emitted from her hands.

Magnusโ€™s lungs burned, his breath coming in ragged gasps as he pushed his body to its limit. His legs coiled and released with each explosive step, his speed turning him into a green blur streaking through the city. The wind whipped against his skin, the world around him reduced to flashes of color and movement.

Still, nothing. No sign of the target.

Gritting his teeth, Magnus doubled back, his frustration mounting. He darted between alleys, leapt across rooftops, and scanned every shadowed corner. Thenโ€”he saw him. A familiar figure slumped on a rooftop. Julius.

Magnus landed beside him in an instant, his feet barely making a sound. He was panting hard, but urgency overpowered his exhaustion.

"Julius! Did you see wheโ€”"

His voice cut off.

Julius didnโ€™t move. His arms were drawn up, shielding his face. Silent, shuddering sobs escaped himโ€”weak, fragile, utterly unlike him.

Magnus froze. His mind blanked.

He had never seen Julius like this before.

"...Julius?"

Akuhei Takahashi
Shugosha
???, Ironshire
The abandoned building was cloaked in darkness, a thick gloom that clung to every corner. The only light seeped through tattered blinds, casting pale streaks of light across the room. Dust particles swirled lazily in the shafts of light, like forgotten remnants of a world left behind. The boards beneath his feet groaned with every step, their decay a reminder of the time that had swallowed this place whole.

The room was desolate, save for the broken remnants of old furnitureโ€”damaged, forgotten. The air was thick with rot and the sting of mildew. But amidst this decay, one thing remained undisturbed: the brick fireplace. Its cold, solid structure stood like a monument to an era long past, untouched by the ruin around it.

Akuhei stood before the fireplace, the flickering flames dancing across his pale skin, casting long, unsettling shadows. His long, dark hair cascaded down his back like a dark curtain, swaying with the slightest movement. His black kimono clung to his lean, muscular frame, the fabric embroidered with the intricate, gray dragons of his lineage. The red tattoos across his chest, like ancient marks of power, seemed to pulse faintly in the firelight.

His sickles, gleaming with a deadly edge, were held loosely in one hand. The other rested at his side, unmoving, yet his entire form radiated an eerie calm

At the sound of Rei's voice, Akuheiโ€™s head snapped around, his green eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. His expression shifted as the news of the BHAโ€™s involvement reached him, and a sly smile spread across his face, his lips curling with amusement.

"True, really?" he spoke, his voice carrying a hint of mischief, the broken English dripping with a dangerous edge. "No worry, friend. Peace. No hunter get us."

He stepped away from the fire, his shadow stretching long behind him as he approached Rei. The crackling of the flames was drowned by his presenceโ€”there was a quiet, menacing confidence in every step.

"Focus," Akuhei continued, his voice turning colder, sharper. "Just distractions."

His gaze bore into Rei, his green eyes going red and intensifying as if to emphasize the weight of his words.

Skyla raised an eyebrow, "'We'? You want to come with us?" She said to Celestius. "In time... I will join you but... no not me." Samantha raised her hand, "That'd be me. If you're going out to fight him then I want to be there." Blizzara came from Samantha's wand, "(Yes! Yes! Me too!)" To which Samantha giggled. Yaxas appeared from Skyla at about the same time, "(We'll need all the help with can get~!)" Skyla looked at Tourmaline and smiled.

Skyla looked at Rai with a knowing gaze, "It's up to you, Rai. If you say no then we won't let her travel with us."

Sia Li
Nature's Hunter
Elderly Woman's Cottage, Ironshire
Sia was placed on the table and the elderly lady worked on healing her.

--- 20 years earlier ---
The city of Ironshire bustled as a young 16 year-old Sia looked around. Her naivete of the big city began to overwhelm her. Everything was so new to her due to being a country girl. Though she was only there for one thing.

The Hunter's Association.

She made her way around until she found it. The building not-so-clearly marked. She swung the doors open as she was met with grisly and gruff hunters who stared at her. This didn't seem to bother her as she made her way to the front desk, 'Hello! I wish to become a hunter! How do I do that?' Her voice was so eager which almost made the clerk chuckle. The clerk stopped herself though and grabbed an orb-like object.

The clerk placed it on the counter, 'This device will measure your strength. It helps us determine what rank to place you at.' Sia nodded. The clerk nodded back, 'Please, place your hand on the orb and concentrate your magic into your hand.' Sia did as she was told and placed her hand on the orb and concentrated.

One second passed. Then five. Then fifteen. Nothing.

After the sixteenth second, a purple-ish glow began to emanate from the orb before fading. There was silence... Sia expected laughter but instead she looked at the clerk who had a shocked look. Then Sia looked at the orb.

It had cracked.

For the first time in years, someone had managed to crack the orb.

--- Present Day ---

Sia had regained enough strength and consciousness that her eyes began to slightly open.

Julius was surprised when he heard Magnus' voice but didn't hide the fact of his current state. Instead he leaned up and wiped his eyes, Julius looked at Magnus, the corners of his eyes were red from crying.

His expression was a mixture of sorrow and disappointment. Sorrow at the knowledge of Sia and disappointment at the fact that Magnus had failed.

Or maybe Julius failed.

Julius stood himself up, "Come on. Sia needs us." Julius limped slightly to the edge of the building and dropped down. When he landed he fumbled forward and picked himself up. The tumble he took had obviously injured his leg but he was pushing through that pain.

His mind was racing and wasn't thinking straight.
