Skyla got up with Rai's help, "I dunno, I saw this man, he looked like a dragon but a man. He had short, blunted horn and they were.. greenish? With a long tail." She looked at Rai, "We locked eyes and then.. something rushed me. Looked like a dragon."

Skyla looked around, "But.. I don't see him anymore."

She sighed, "These omens.. I dunno if they're good or bad but they're certainly something."

Skyla nodded.

CutsceneWith that, Rai and Skyla finished up their business in the store, grabbing a couple energy concoctions and performing one last equipment inspection. When that was done, they set off for the Desert Nation.

They took a carriage and arrived there in only a few hours. Though by the time they arrived, it was between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The carriage that had brought them stopped and dropped them off before turning and heading off towards Luminosa. Skyla and Rai now stood before the border of the Desert Nation.

The road lead on for a few feet before it transitioned into sand and desert as expected. The Desert itself was alive, moving and wavy like an ocean would be. It was a strange sight to see.
Cutscene Ends
Skyla stood before the border with Rai. Her chest, specifically where her heart is, began to glow slightly, "Wha-" the glow from her chest faded but then her lance's red gem began to glow. After a few seconds, fiery energy spewed from it and before Skyla and Rai. The energy eventually congealed into a form before them. A form they recognized all too well and one they knew to be dead. The form before was his but along with it was areas where he was 'on fire' but being a mass of fire, it didn't affect him, "Wait... is that..." Skyla's voice was shaky and she covered her mouth with her hands and stared in shock.

Raiโ€™s eyes widened as the glow faded from Skylaโ€™s chest, only for the red gem of her lance to ignite with a fiery pulse. His heart skipped a beat as the energy surged and solidified into a familiar, terrifying form before them.

His stomach twisted. The figureโ€ฆit was him. But not.

There were parts of the figure aflame, like burning patches of a person that shouldnโ€™t have been, yet the fire didnโ€™t harm it. It moved with an eerie familiarity.

Rai took a step back, his mind racing but unable to form a coherent thought. The figure was impossible. Heโ€™d seen him fall, seen him die. It was his bodyโ€”his body with flames where there shouldnโ€™t be.

โ€œSkylaโ€ฆโ€ Raiโ€™s voice was barely a whisper, laced with disbelief, his pulse hammering in his ears.

The figure looked between Rai and Skyla, a smile painted across its 'face'. It spoke after a moment, "I apologize for my... appearance." Its voice was Mika's but also a mix of other voices, "I wished to reveal myself earlier but I lacked the means to do so. That time came when Skyla gained that unexpected surge of power from entering the Desert Nation. It allowed me to finally manifest from the gem embedded your lance." The figure looked itself up and down, "This form was to... strike familiarity but I can see it's only caused shock. Perhaps a different form might've sufficed."

Skyla couldn't speak, she was on the verge of tears. Whether it was happy tears, angry tears or sorrow remained to be known. The entity turned to Rai, "Perhaps you are of a more sound mind to speak?"

The figure paused a gave a slight nod, "My answer was neither true nor was it false. I am Mika but Mika is also me." It turned and looked at Skyla's lance, "Namely, I am the many souls of my... 'wielders'. All the people who have wielded me before she has. I am the Lance of Ruin."

The entity grabbed the air in front of it and put on hand out and began "unsheathing" a weapon from its hand. The weapon was a katana that was on fire, "Forgive me. I am bound by an oath. Celestius bid me to test the strength of any who seek to go into the Desert Nation." The entity held the blade at its side, "However, a simple duel will suffice. Do you accept my challenge? If you win, both you and Skyla may pass. If you lose, you must return when you've become stronger."

He looked at Skyla at the request for a duel. "You have no social skills. Not a single 'hello' or 'how are you'. Just straight to looking for a fight, huh?" Rai shook his head. "Please, we have better things to focus on. It'd be dumb to waste our energy on something like this."

Rai rejected the duel in a straightforward matter, but still, he gripped the hilt of his katana just in case.

Looking at the voice she recognized him from earlier, "Wait you're--" The figure from the Lance chipped in, "Celestius. I didn't think you'd make an appearance here."

Even if we wanted to fight, I'm afraid our abilities are sealed."

Skyla looked at Rai then at Celestius, "My arrival?" She recalled how her chest glowed when they entered, "Oh that.." Skyla looked at Rai and nodded, "Yeah.. I'll be honest, he doesn't strike me as dishonest." She looked at Celestius, "Okay then, let's go, Celestius."

Celestius nodded and lead them towards the Palace. On the way, they ran into a creature, it was small and pink. It floated above the ground, Celestius stopped them, "Look, a Sprite." Skyla looked at Celestius, "The hell's a Sprite? Some kind of Spirit?" Celestius paused for a moment, "Kind of. They're a subspecies of Spirits. Weaker and defenseless by themselves but become powerful allies when they form contractual bonds with mortals." Skyla looked with intrigue.

Celestius examined the Sprite further, "That one is... different though. Skyla... you should approach it and see what happens..." Skyla looked at Celestius for a moment then proceeded careful. The Sprite landed on the ground, careful to avoid the desert sands, Skyla then called out to it which caused the Sprite to look at her and tilt its head. After a moment it trotted along the rocks in a careful manner. Curiously almost.

Skyla held out her hand and the creature almost instant jumped with joy then leaped into her chest, disappearing in the process. Skyla stumbled back a couple steps in surprise but otherwise unhurt, "What just... what just happened?" Celestius looked at Skyla, "You just formed a contractual bond with it." Skyla looked more confused, "What was it?" Celestius nodded slightly, "If I recall correctly, that was a Yaxas. To Spirits, they're a revered species, hailed as Guardian Sprites of this desert. I had a feeling you'd be a perfect match for it." Skyla nodded, "It felt a bit weird when it shot into my chest like that but it didn't hurt at all."

Suddenly Skyla heard a voice in her head, it was cutesy, "(Of course~! Yaxas would never hurt Master~!)" Skyla looked shocked when she heard it, "H-Huh?!" Then Yaxas appeared in front of Skyla but everyone could see, "(I apologize, Master. I didn't mean to startle you...)" When Yaxas spoke, it Skyla could understand it clearly but Celestius and Rai wouldn't be able to understand a word, instead all they heard were cute sounding mumblings and grunts.

Celestius looked at them then heard some nearby horses, "Horses? In the desert?" Celestius grabbed Rai and Skyla and pulled them into cover nearby, "Stay quiet and stay down." He said in a hushed whisper. Skyla looked at Celestius and replied in the same whisper, "What are you-" Then she heard voices. Two females and a male.

"Huuuuh?? Why'd he have to send us out here?" Said an impatient sounding female, "You need to relax, sister. He sensed someone strong cross our border and sent to investigate it." Said a calmer more rational female voice, "You two are the strongest lackey's he's got... so it makes sense that he'd send you but me? I'm a grunt. Why me?" The male voice was gruff, "Isn't obvious? You're cannon fodder! Hahahaha! If we get into a fight, you're the first to go!" The guy had a shocked look on his face. The calm sister lightly pushed the impatient one, "Juniper! That's not true!" The impatient one looked at her sister, "Huh? It's not? Kiyoko... you're too soft." The calm sister, Kiyoko, sighed, "Regardless, he's not fodder... and I'm not soft! I just... don't always agree with his methods..." She trailed off at the end so it was hard to hear.

The guy sighed, "Kiyoko you're so merciful, thank you!" Kiyoko dismissed his thanks, "Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna out of my way to save you but I'm not gonna let you die if I can help it. Got it? And don't call me by my first name! It's weird when you say it.." The guy nodded response. After a minute of searching and looking around, they hopped on their horses and rode off, allowing Celestius, Skyla and Rai to safely emerge.

Celestius looked at Rai, "If memory serves, those two girls are part of a gang called the Sand Dragons. It's leader is named Shin Hiragimi. They have what you might call a strangle hold on this nation..." There was a pause from Celestius, "Actually, he's the one responsible for the sealing spell."

Skyla's eyes widened a bit at the reveal of the state of her home. She felt an obligation to help them, as if she hadn't anyways, "So.. what can we do?"

Celestius' gaze hardened a bit, "Follow me." With that, he had Skyla and Rai follow him. They approached a rock formation that blocked the view ahead of it. As they walked up and peered over the rocks, the sight they saw wasn't that much better. There was a massive sandstorm that seemed to centralized on a single location, "The people have begun calling it the Eternal Sandstorm. It seems to never move from that location and anyone who has tried to go near it is torn to shreds." He looked at Rai and Skyla, "Some people say that some of the residents are trapped in there still."

Skyla raised an eyebrow, "Residents? Of what?" There was another pause and no answer from Celestius but one did come from Yaxas, "(Master, the Guardian Spirits are angry. After he recovered the Royal Palace a few years ago, that sandstorm has popped up.)" Skyla looked at Yaxas who suddenly appeared and jumped a bit, being startled, "Good lord!" She said in surprise, "You gotta stop doing that.." Yaxas looked away a bit, "(I'm sorry...)" Skyla dismissed it, "So.. this man.. he... did all this? Recovered the palace?" There's too much we donโ€™t understand yet, and the more we dig, the messier itโ€™s gonna get. But we're already in it. Guess we just keep moving forward, even if we donโ€™t know how this ends."

Skyla nodded and tried to do just that but nothing happened. Skyla looked back at Celestius and Rai, "Well... what did you have me do that for?"

Celestius replied, "Well.. I was seeing if you could channel some of that energy you had when you entered the nation. It seems you still have a ways to go before that." Celestius put a finger on his chin, "Still, if you're serious about saving this nation, we'll need to find a way to get into the Palace. That's where Shin is."

Skyla sighed, "For now, let's find an village... town.. anything..." She looked to Celestius, "Know of any place?" Celestius shook his head, "This place has changed so much since I've been around, I hardly know where anything is." Skyla sighed lightly and then picked a direction and began walking.

Rai's eyes widened and he took a step back, but the little thing moved toward him again. Even though he was still annoyed from the fall, the samurai's expression softened. It was pretty cute. He reached down and picked up the creature.

"Hey there, cutie." Rai said.

("Hi!") He heard it response from a high, nervous voice.

Rai quickly dropped the creature with a yelp and backed away.

("Ow!")

Mood: Calm
Eliezer Allaire
The Vulture
Bounty Hunter Organization, Ironshire
It was a cool, quiet day in Ironshire. The sun tucked itself behind the clouds, casting a soft, gray hue over the streets. The air was slow, the breeze gentle โ€” a rare moment of peace.

Eliezer walked silently through the calm roads, his shoes clicking softly against the concrete. His black hair and cloak stirred in the wind, but his focus remained inward. The scent of ore and smoke wafted from the blacksmith's forge, where Griffin's hammer rang out with each strike against a blade. Yet, all Eliezer could smell were the roses pressed into his witch doctor mask. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, drawing in the floral scent, letting it settle in his lungs โ€” a small comfort against the worldโ€™s harsher smells.

Before long, he stood before a large, weathered building. Three stories high and worn by time, its faded beige walls loomed quietly over the street. Eliezer pressed a hand against the dark red double doors and pushed them open, met instantly by a wave of warm air โ€” the unmistakable heat of too many bodies crammed into one place.

The Bounty Bar.

The room buzzed with life. Bounty hunters drank, laughed, argued, and scoured the bounty board for their next target. Though Eliezer kept his head down, he could feel the weight of their stares โ€” a silent pressure against his back. His skin prickled, and his shoulders stiffened. They knew him. They all did.

His fingers curled slightly as he quickened his pace, weaving through the crowd like a shadow. No eye contact. No conversation. Just get upstairs.

When he finally reached the staircase, Eliezer exhaled a breath he hadnโ€™t realized he was holding. The spiral steps creaked under his steady rhythm โ€” the familiar sound of his shoes clicking against wood, a strange comfort.

At the top, a maroon door awaited. He opened it without hesitation, stepping into the quiet hallway that led to the meeting room.

Inside, two familiar faces greeted him โ€” Sia and Julius.

The room was still, a sharp contrast to the chaos below. The long table in the center was polished but worn at the edges, a silent witness to countless meetings and hushed conversations. Light filtered in through the high windows, casting a dull glow over the walls lined with old maps and scattered bounty posters.

Eliezer shut the door behind him, his movements calm but deliberate. With a slow, practiced motion, he removed his mask, taking a deep breath. The air was muted here, almost scentless. The faintest trace of old parchment and polished wood lingered, but it was weak โ€” just how he preferred it. The flowers tucked into his mask still left a subtle whisper of rose in his nose, a soft contrast to the sterile room.

He placed the mask gently on the table, his dark eyes flicking between his comrades. A small nod.

"Greetings, mes cher amis."

Eliezerโ€™s eyes lingered on the worn poster, the faded images of the Onyx Beetlesโ€”Castro, Maki, and Kuragiriโ€”blurring at the edges. The mugshots were old, taken years ago when they were in their mid-teens. But now, they seemed like ghosts, frozen in time, while the truth of their present existence remained hidden. Eliezer's gaze shifted, his mind wandering from the faces to the lingering traces of their scents he once knew so wellโ€”traces that had long since faded from the air.

"Itโ€™s been a while," Eliezer spoke, his voice low and quiet, almost drowned by the hum of the room. His fingers grazed the edge of the table before sliding the poster back toward the center. "Only Kuragiriโ€™s scent brushed past me, months ago. A fleeting thing... like dust in the wind." He paused, exhaling a soft breath, the roomโ€™s stale air tugging at his senses. "They're either gone from Ironshire, or Castroโ€™s doing something to cover their trail. Maybe masking their hideout with something... something overwhelming. A stench too powerful for my nose to follow."

His words hung in the air like a quiet storm, unspoken implications twisting around them. The silence that followed was thick, the tension stretching between them.

Eliezerโ€™s hand hovered over the table, his fingers brushing the surface, tracing imaginary patterns as his thoughts churned. "I wouldnโ€™t call them a threat right now," he added, voice barely above a murmur. He glanced at the poster again, his expression unreadable. "Their last heist was a year ago, and nothing since. That doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™re gone, though. They could be waiting, hiding, watching."

A slight shift in his postureโ€”a subtle clenching of his jawโ€”broke the stillness. "How many bounties have been claimed this month?" Eliezer asked, his words now more deliberate, his gaze momentarily fixed on the table. "I do hope our efficiency hasnโ€™t dropped off. We canโ€™t afford a lull."

Eliezer exhaled softly, the sound barely breaking the stillness. "Theyโ€™re too busy crowding the Bounty Barโ€”drinking, fightingโ€ฆ wasting time," he murmured. His words were calm, but there was a weight beneath them, a quiet disappointment that settled in the air. "And they only chase high bounties. The smaller ones? Left to rookies. Most of whom fail."

His finger tapped the tableโ€”steady, rhythmic, like clockworkโ€”before stilling. A pause. Then, his voice dipped even lower. "But if thatโ€™s the caseโ€ฆ why havenโ€™t they gone after Rei? His bounty is more than high enough to catch their attention." A flicker of somethingโ€”curiosity, concernโ€”crossed his face. "Perhaps theyโ€™re... scared?"

Another breath. Another quiet sigh. Eliezerโ€™s gaze drifted back to the table, his mind clearly moving faster than his words. "Either way, the BHA has been slacking," he said softly, though the accusation was sharp. "We should be processing hundreds of bounties a month. A handful? Thatโ€™s not just inefficiency." His jaw tightened for a brief moment. "Itโ€™s preposterous."
