Realistic or Modern Just a Petty Criminal

Alex smiled back wryly, it might be a good thing to have protection. He just hadn’t met the proper connection for him to get a gun, since there had never been a use for it. Then he glanced out at the fake IDs and leaned over to watch them curiously. “Pretty cool. Hmm…” he thought the details looked familiar. “My friend got it for me, but maybe you made it,” he said, reaching into his pocket and held up a fake ID where he was 21 - hey, a dude gotta drink.

Then he put it down again and listened to her instructions. “Knife, magazine, bandages, got it,” he mumbled, and then looked over toward the door as well. At first he thought it would be Davin, but then he noticed that he was still on the monitor as well, and looked at Lee.

“You expecting someone?” he asked.

Davin walked down the sidewalk, skipping on a trip of MDMA and THC filled goodness. He had only a few places to stop on this walk-- one of them being some college stoners who wanted to test some of the choppier waters. He hoped they could hold their drugs, because he was not the one for monet-back garuntees. In his mystical haze, he passed a coffee shop. His thoughts immediately went back to that island and how he was practically foeced to indulge in a cup everyday. He smirked, almost giving in to nostolgia. 'Maybe I'll have Starbucks another day.' He thought as he watched a young girl exit the facility while stuffing things into her backpack.

Davin hoped that Leon would continue not to see him, as he pulled that castle apart--brick by brick. The young hustler had an ornate plan to take the Man down, with a senario for every situation. He was ready to go to the limit to take everything for himself. "Funny, how I'm doing this because I'm bored." He sighed, continuing to his next pick-up and delivery.

…my taptalk sucks. don't judge.

Liam straightened, frowning after witnessing the girl's display. Drug money? He doubted it. Plus, her cute and quirky act was a bit see through...to him anyway.

Sighing and shaking his head, he rubbed a spot on his phone case with his thumb and finished typing his message, confirming he would be at the gallery.

Liam pushed open the door, loosening the shoulder strap of his backpack as he stepped out into the sidewalk. He raised his hand, shouting to signal a taxi, when his

eyes flicked across the street. Liam froze, blinking as he gazed at the familiar looking figure, to far away to see clearly but close enough to make him wonder.

"You getting in, or what?" The cabbie yelled to him, peering over the front seat back at him. Liam cleared his throat, nodding and sliding into the seat. Must be the coffee, he thought to himself, clearing his mind of the impossibility of who he thought he had seen.

Mars didn't want to sit around and wait so she placed a card with her name and number on it with a picture of the name Leon inside of a bullseye. She wasn't sure if anyone was there or not but figured that she could at least get her name and info into the right hands, she slipped the card under the door before she made her exit.

'No point lingering around outside of the apartment of a drug dealer, don't want to draw any unnecessary attention' she thought as she made her way to the elevator. The funny thing was that under Leon's regime she was actually living pretty decent and all she really had to worry about was angering him and ending up on the news as a missing girl, and really that's not that hard to do if you simply stick to what you're told. Where's the fun in that, though? As she left the building she went down to the bus stop and waited for the next one.

She lived in one of her father's old apartments that he deemed was used for "extra curricular activities", the great thing about it was that it was in a run down part of the city so nobody really knows about it. It's like a weapons outpost, drug stock piled, safety bunker all rolled into one. She wears the fancy key to her spot around her wrist because it looked good there and as a pick-pocket she likes the added challenge of the possibility of being caught do to the noise it might make or the weight of it brushing one of her targets.

The day may have been over but she was was still riding the high of making cash and thieving and decided that she would continue to have some fun in her spot, and with that said she quickly changed to an oversized t-shirt, connected her iPod to the apartment's wifi speaker system and played Lil Wayne Radio on Pandora was she rolled herself another blunt, this one laced with a little something special, and chilled out on her couch with her cellphone sitting next to her. "It ain't fun if it's easy," she said as she lit her blunt and Good Kush and Alcohol began playing throughout her studio apartment. She needed a roommate though, this place was too big for just herself, and she figured she could use the company. Boy or girl, preferably a girl, but she would worry about that later. Chill now and ad for a roomy later!

Lee shook her head and eyed Alexander suspiciously. "You didn't invite anyone, did you?" she said with a bit of accusation in her voice. Lee didn't really know whether to open the door or not, but when she looked through the peephole, she didn't see anyone. She cautiously opened the door and poked her head outside. Still no one. Lee frowned, unpleased by the mystery until she saw a small card on the ground. She picked it up and studied it for a moment. It was quite unsettling to think about- how was Davin so popular? This could be a good thing in order to "raise an army" against Leon, but they couldn't draw too much attention so early in the process. At least this person, whoever they were, seemed to be on the same side, guessing by Leon's name in the target.

"You know who this is?" she asked, holding the card up for Alexander to see. Maybe he did- he seemed like the type to have a lot of friends or at least acquaintances. He was definitely more likely to know someone than Lee was. She glanced over at the monitors and hoped Davin would return soon, since she couldn't stop thinking about the mysterious new person they had almost encountered.

Alexander shook his head. “No, didn’t even tell anyone that I was going today,” he said with a shrug and craned his neck to see who was there. But it didn’t seem like Lee saw anyone out there, so he just sat back in his seat. He was surprised that he wasn’t the only one who thought of showing up here. He stood up when she lifted the card, and took it from her fingers to give it a look. “Hmm..” he mumbled, and thought about it.

“Marissa..” he mumbled and then shook his head. “I mean, I have seen a Marissa at a party, who had a lot of tattoos, but we never talked, I don’t really know her,” he admitted with a smile and handed the card back to Lee.

Liam groaned, and lifted his head off of his desk groggily, recovering from yet another late night. Nowadays, the only way he managed to get to sleep was popping pills before bed. After staring at the ceiling for hours, he had given up on rest and worked on photo editing his latest project, but actually ended up dozing off on his laptop keyboard. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he pushed the chair back and stretched his legs out before standing and heading to the shower.

Fifteen minutes later, he walked into the kitchen dressed in designer jeans and and a Lacoste t-shirt. He may have been through hell, but nothing yet had managed to squander his love of fashion. He began to make coffee, grabbing a pop tart out of the pantry as he sat down to wait for the brew. He scowled as he unwrapped it, thinking wistfully of his ex, and his otherworldly cooking skills. He sighed, biting down on it, brooding quietly. He almost never let himself think about this, because the entire situation was his own fault. Besides, even if he did see his schatzi again, how was he going to explain abandoning him? It was a damn death wish - not that he hadn't had those before. Still, he missed the German, still longed for the person who's name was tattooed on his hip bone in beautiful black ink...

The machine beeped, startling him. Pull yourself together man, he thought, shaking his head.

Liam went to fetch his coffee. None of it mattered anyway, the person Davin once knew was long gone by now, and so was the European himself. It was surely over.

Finishing his brunch, he slid the chair back under the table and grabbed his coat and boots, popping his collar out of habit. Checking the time, he grinned, being fashionably late never got old. He pushed the memories out of his mind as he pulled open the door and stepped out.

Besides, only an idiot would let his past...failures distract him from the wondrous creations of Van Gogh...

Lee sat with her head resting on her chin, staring at the front door as a new customer came in. "Hello, let me know if you need any help," she called out routinely. The customer gave her a smile and a nod before retreating into the long rows of books. Lee sighed, far too preoccupied with other things to be focused on her bookstore day job. The previous night had been strange, at the very least. After Davin returned, Lee left to go transfer the funds like he told her to. Then, she decided to research. First, she looked up the person from the mysterious card- Marissa. Lee was relieved to find nothing that seemed threatening to them or their operation, and that set her mind at ease. That is, until she searched for William.

"Hey, can I check out here?" Lee looked up and nodded at the customer. "Yeah, I'll ring you up," she said. Lee glanced at the clock and let out a small sigh that was barely noticeable. She would be off the clock soon, but that meant she would have to meet up with Liam at the art gallery- something she was not looking forward to at all, for once. "Have a nice day," she told the customer as she handed them the bag of books. "You too," was the reply before the door chimed to signal the person's exit. "Yeah...I don't think that's gonna happen," Lee muttered to herself.

It was about 3 A.M. last night when Lee was staring, stunned, at her computer screen. It wasn't possible- it couldn't be. How could she have been so stupid? Maybe she had never asked Davin about the guy or pushed the matter, but still... She felt like a complete idiot. William...Liam...how had she not seen it before?

Lee ran a hand through her hair in frustration before checking the clock again. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself. Her hands trembled involuntarily. She had to get a grip, she knew. Liam would be able to tell if anything was wrong- he was intelligent and perceptive, and that was part of the reason Lee had been drawn to the man in the first place. They weren't all that close, but Lee felt a certain companionship toward him since they had known each other for perhaps a month now, give or take. Lee enjoyed his company, but today she wished she was anyone else, and anywhere but here.

The clock's hand hit the next hour, signaling the end of Lee's work day. She grabbed her bag and produced a notebook, just like she always did for art gallery visits. Her face wore her typical, uninterested expression as she left the bookstore and walked to the gallery. 'Conceal, don't feel,' she told herself. Sure, she was going to meet a guy she thought she was actually becoming friends with but that was really her current best friend's ex. Sure, she had met up with him a couple times without her best friend knowing, and now he wanted her to recruit him for the purpose of killing. But what could go wrong?

"Hey," Lee said simply as she approached the gallery, not knowing that Liam had been late as well. "Sorry I'm late. Coffee's on me."

Davin woke up, not so much sober as pissed off. He had dealt with some assholes that were not able to pay what they owed him for some green and blue. He had to pay out of pocket again, but not before smacking the color out of their eyes. Davin was generous, but blatant abuse of his kindness could awaken a well known dragon that slept inside the man.

He walked out of his bedroom, with only his y-front wonder underwear on. He crossed the refigerator, reaching in to grab yogurt. The "pow" on his backside never looked more ridiculous, but it was Saturday--Davin just so happened to be a cartoon fanatic. He grabbed his remote from the counter, then hopped over the sofa. It was pulled out as a bed, and he remembered there was a kid sleeping on his couch.

Davin silently smirked as he turned on his Looney Tunes. After a few hours, he got tired and sent a text to Lee, asking if she had completed her assignment. When he got no response, he knew she had to be doing one of two things: Painting or looking at paintings. Since the gallery was closer than her place, he decided to check the former first. He got dressdd in a simple gray muscle shirt, his maroon hoodie, and jeans with gray low-tops. He descended down his elevator shaft, making sure now to wake up the boy on his couch.

As he waked toward the gallery, he saw Lee getting out of the car and entering the building. He broke out into a run, barely catching the door as it closed. "Heu, I've been trying to catch you--" he huffed, out of breath. Looking up, he saw his friend...and his ex. The man, that left him high and dry on the island, was suddenly before his very eyes. Davin's heart skipped a beat, then picked up in a blazing pace.

"Shit. I'm too sober for this." He sighed, before striding toward the man and punching him in the face.

Everything was fine, in Lee's opinion. She didn't think she was behaving abnormally at all, and for now she would just focus on the art as usual and break the news to Liam after buying him coffee- surely that would make him a bit more likely to listen reasonably. "Post-impressionism, hm?" she said, noticing a Van Gogh in the corner as they walked in. However, as soon as she had said this with a slight smile, she heard heavy breathing and a voice that made her freeze in her tracks. Why was he here?

Lee turned, just in time to see Davin punch Liam in the face. What the-? Was that really necessary? Sure, she didn't know what had gone wrong between them, but this was not the time or place. This was an art gallery, for goodness sake- was there no respect for anything in this world? It was an ironic thought for a girl like her who was involved with guys like these, but Lee felt her anger building anyways.

"Davin, what are you doing!?" she said, forgetting the casual act and letting her frustration show clearly. Damn him, she thought. I could've done this myself- I had it under control. Well good luck trying to recruit the guy now! Lee clenched her fists, and pushed the two out the door of the gallery, making sure to step on Davin's foot in the process.

He smiled, accepting the coffee and walking in after her. He slowed, checking the time on his watch before he looked back up and froze like a deer in headlights.

Liam's eyes widened as Davin literally knocked him off his feet, the blow hitting him squarely in the nose and he crashed to the floor. His hand flew to his face as the blood spurted onto his jacket, unable to tell if the pain or shock was greater at the moment. He was completely oblivious to the hushed whispers of the people staring at the scene, and he got to his feet, swaying slightly. He barely had time to inspect the damage before Lee was yelling something, and pushing them out of the doors. So much for a day of normality...

He stood on the sidewalk, not able to bring himself to look Davin in the eye as he pinched his nose trying to stop the bleeding. He shut his eyes, wincing and sincerely hoping that he was having a horrendous nightmare, and that his past had not just come back to sock him in the face.

"Damnit, woman! Watch your feet!" Davin griped as he was pushed out of the gallery by his best friend. Some of William's blood splattered on his jacket.and he immediately felt bad. Part of him wanted to hurt the man when he puched him-- but a small part of him just wanted to make sure it was really him and not just an effect of some acid or something.

As soon as they were out of Lee's grip, Davin broke down. "You two have been seeing each other this entire time? But that's not even what I'm mad about--I have no doubt that Lee would tell me as soon as she knew." He turned to Will and poked his chest. "You have been in the same city all this time. I don't care that you almost killed me in my sleep. I would have taken that gladly before getting left on a crappy little island after you made me detox. For you!" Davin had tears running down his face at that point, his eyes red and raw. "You didn't even look for me. I love you, you fucking twat. But, by God I swear I hate you just the same. You selfish prick."

taptalk...making me pissed since 2014.

Liam shook his head, the guilt he had ignored all those months washed back over him, unnervingly fresh. "You don't understand, I couldn't -" His voice cracked upon seeing Davin's heartbroken expression, and he held back the tears that had sprung to his eyes. "I couldn't stay, Davin, not a moment longer. I would have offed you! I'd thought about it for days, consciously and unconsciously, and you were lucky I managed to snap out of it when I woke up that morning! It would have been just like i'd imagined it, the feeling of your blood pooling around my fingers, that knife buried deep in your throat..." He broke off, looking at his shaking hands in shame. "I would have loved to do it. But the part of me that loved you, is why I had to go. I never wanted you to see me like that, you were never supposed to see me as a killer..."

After they were outside, Lee let out a sigh of frustration and rubbed her temples, partially hoping that this was just a bad dream. But it wasn't. "Look, I didn't kn-" she started but then just gave up. It seemed that the worst was over, so she just plopped down on a nearby shaded bench and waited for Davin and Liam to figure it out. She expected them to be mad at her, but it seemed they were too upset with each other. Not that she minded personally avoiding the conflict. Lee simply put her feet up on the bench beside her, taking up all of the space so some stranger couldn't come and sit down if they wanted to. This is why I shouldn't make friends or associate with other people, she griped to herself. The only thing it's even brought me is drug dealers, and now apparently, killers. Awesome. This is why I like computers...at least they make sense.

Saturday was a great day of Mars. She had already gotten up showered and changed and had just lit one up over a bowl of Captain Crunch while watching Ed, Edd, and Eddy. She didn't have any real plans for the day but figured she'd go out and see if she couldn't make her own fun. Nothing like a walk through the streets to "liberate" some unsuspecting people of things they wouldn't know they were missing until it was far too late. She finished her breakfast and watched a few more episodes before she decided to head out into the real world. She wasn't sure if she should wait for a call back or head over to his place again, but she figured at worst she'd wait till tomorrow evening to pay a visit. She decided to stay relatively local and see if she couldn't find something fun a safe distance from her spot, stashing a pocket knife away in her back pocket for extra security. Playtime for now then Casino later tonight, she didn't mind it too much but would've preferred to have the weekends off. She would probably talk her way into leaving a bit early tonight anyway if not being able to avoid it all together. She'd figure it out later.

Feeling the rain press down against her head, Skye pulled her jacket collar closer to her face. She loved the rain, but she knew she would get sick if she kept this up. Taking long walks, in the dark, when it's cold and raining, was definitely not recommended by a doctor. She took this time to think, and as usual, was carrying her flask filled with whiskey. Taking a few gulps here and there, she let out a sigh and parked herself on a nearby bench. The city was peaceful, yet she knew she could get hurt if not careful, she knew just what was lurking out there. A cat rustling in nearby bushes brought her out of her trance. Looking round quickly, she was relieved to see the feline sitting cleaning itself. "Jesus christ," She chuckled to herself, "You scared me."

Going back to her flask, she realised just how lonely she was. Here she was, sitting on a bench, alone, in the dark, drinking whiskey from a flask. Her grip on the flask grew tighter. She threw it down hard and covered her face. "What am I doing...?"

Davin looked at Will, sighing as he approached the man very timidly. It was unlike him to be so scared to do anything of the sort. But, Davin really wasn't very sure about anything at this point. "Well, do you still wanna kiss me?" he asked, his fingers shaking at the words. Will had always been his favorite drug, and he needed a fix--now more than ever. "I am taking down a King with just a set of pawns. I need my Queen--my ultimate defense. I need you, Will." he said, grabbing on to the front of the man's shirt. "Stay this time? Please?" he begged, so low it was almost a defeated whimper.

Liam sighed shakily, looking away. Every damn bone in his body was telling him to go with the man, to take the chance to beg for forgiveness, but his mind had it's doubts. He had left for a reason, and what if he did something he would regret? His gaze returned upwards, his face inches away from Davin's as he looked into those pain-filled blue green eyes. Making his choice, Liam slowly reached out to clasp Davin's hand, nodding his head slightly. He had abandoned his love once - he wouldn't do it willingly again.

"I'll...I'll stay."

Soon, without her realising, she had curled up and fallen asleep on the bench. Her apartment wasn't special, it was small and consisted of just two rooms. She figured she didn't care what happened to her anymore, she risked her life with each job she took, sleeping on a bench was the least of her worries.

Waking to the hustle and bustle, she groaned and sat up, rubbing her eyes.

"Good." Davin sighed, bringing the man in for a hug. "Leave me again and I'll blow us both to bits." he whispered in his ear before layin g a kiss there. He let go, smiling. "Well, okay. I guess we can go back and look at that painting. You two were thinking about getting a job done, am I right?" he asked, scratching the inside of his forearm. It had been a while, and even though he was aware of his withdrawls it did nothing to stop the itching.

"Rumor's going around, Leon. Some people are particularly unhappy about the mall incident." The voice came from his chief adviser. a woman by the name of Alexis.

"So? The happiness of the rabble is not really my concern." Leon replied, rolling his eyes at her. Of course people were unhappy. Almost a dozen people were injured or killed yesterday. It had been awhile since he pulled a stunt like that, so maybe they had just forgotten who made the rules around here.

"Actually, sir.. One of your guys got jumped earlier. Just some punks with baseball bats, but the dealer from 12th avenue is a vegetable now."

A blind and deaf man could have felt the displeasure in the room. "Find them. Offer them a job, I could use more toughs."

"What if they say no?"

Leon shot her a look that screamed do we really have to cover this again?

"Then deal with them the way we always do. And string them up nicely, where people will see. A telephone line will do."

Lee let out a small sigh of relief and felt her face relax into a slight smile. That had been way too easy. She rolled her eyes. "You're both such drama queens," she mumbled as she stood. Lee didn't know if she felt like staring at art anymore; she didn't want to ruin the reunion, and part of the reason she was even here was to convince Liam to join them. Now that her biggest worry was taken care of, she was content to do whatever they suggested. Lee went to galleries and studied for personal research purposes anyways. "It doesn't matter to me," she said simply with a shrug.

Alexander blinked his eyes awake the next morning when the sun annoyed him. He sat up, hair an absolute mess, and looked around confused. He ruffled his fingers through his hair, and tried to remember where he was…. Oh yeeeah, Davin’s place. He had randomly come to ask for a job, he had gotten hired, ate dinner and learned how to shoot a gun. Then he had crashed here on the couch. Hm, that had been a strange day. The apartment seemed pretty quiet, and he was guessing that Davin had gone out today, Alexander was quite the heavy sleeper, so he was not surprised that he hadn’t woken up. He was wearing clothes from yesterday. The boy stretched his hands over his head lazily and grabbed his hat from the table. There, now he was dressed.

He got up from the couch, and sneaked over to the kitchen, grabbing an apple before heading for the door. He could pay him back for an apple. He had to sell his apartment today, and hopefully get some more info on his new job later.

He bounced the apple in his hand as he went down the street to his apartment. Oh, he could really use a smoke right now. Then he looked down and noticed that his shoelace had untied. He went over to a bench. There was a girl sitting there, who seemed to have slept there all night, but she looked around his age. He smiled at her, and sat down, putting his shoe up on the bench. “Rough party yesterday?” he asked her casually as he tied his shoelace. At least that was what he assumed she had been up to, since she was sleeping outside.
