Realistic or Modern Johnson Creek

I'm honestly with @RedIncubus on this. As someone who's pretty familiar with the craft (my friend is a witch, and I'm not kidding) I agree. There are many forms of the craft, but that's truly not one. Which, this is all just my general opinion of the character based on my knowledge and research of witchcraft. Sorry if it offends anyone.

Throwing in my two cents on why I decided on making the categories this way: I personally get a little bit frustrated with the limited gender options for magic in books and tv (I know that real witches can be any gender) so I just wanted to throw in an extra one incase someone wants to make a magically inclined person outside the gender binary. I guess it kinda spawns from my own gender expression and all that. But yeah. In this case it isn't that deep, although if you'd all prefer I can change it up to be more realistic.

Also I would appreciate that no one gangs up on another member here. Thank you.

To anyone wondering about the gender thing:

Witch = Cis female, trans female, demigirl

Warlock = Cis male, trans male, demiboy

Magic User = genderqueer, nonbinary, agender, genderfluid, genderflux...etc.

Ah ok. I was unclear on what the post meant, since I thought that it was referring to the gender, since that's what the classifications were for. I didn't really understand that it was a point to the character itself. I apologize if I seemed rude.

It's alright. I'm going to edit the post on lore and stuff to include a more proper explanation on it. You didn't seem rude about it, it was just a general heads up to people.

I promise I haven't forgotten about y'all lmao. I have an interview today for an internship I've been waiting to hear back from for a while, so I may or may not have my characters done tonight depending on how long the interview is and how much homework I have.
Good luck on your interview! I hope you get the job! Take your time. We've all got our own schedules and stuff, I'm glad you're putting your other responsibilities over this since they're a billion times more important! So yeah, there really isn't any rush.

I also apologize if I seemed rude as well, I just saw where he felt ganged up on and decided to give him some backup. Plus, I do have a lot of info on the craft and thought that might help.

If anyone playing magi need help with something, I have some resources for witchcraft I can link you to, and then just some general knowledge from my witch friend.

Well both my characters are newbies to the town. I got the ok from @Tiny Turtle to make my second character a high school student, even though you weren't supposed to. (That's my bad, I didn't understand the age limit completely. Always read stuff throughly.) As it's the summer, it won't matter because she's working to help keep the townhouse. So I don't think I will be associating with anyone initally.

I'm gonna go ahead and apologize for causing the confusion in the first place...I try not to be rude outright and then I end up having to be a little less than a gentleman in the end. All in all, I just want the art in which I do happen to practice to be seen in that light. I already know I can be unforgivably blunt, so I tried a different method. But, I'm about as subtle as a live chicken in a Popeye's. I still respect everyone here and there is no beef on my end. Again, I'm sorry guys.

Alright, I get it. I understand that he seemed more like a superpower kind of guy, but between the ideas of both a Haitian witch doctor and this one. I relatively chose this one.

But, if you feel so very irritated by this character, I can revert him to a witch doctor. Provided I get an OK from the tiny turtle around these parts.

This is a witch doctor, it was taken from Mental_Floss:

The “witch doctor” may be one of the most ubiquitous depictions of a witch (placing behind wicked witches and those in
Harry Potter). But the fantastical moniker should not diminish the very real influence these figures have in South African culture. Native to the Zulu people, “witch doctors” are seen as healers who are divided into two different categories: inyanga and isangoma.

While inyanga are not dissimilar to modern day herbalists and practitioners of natural medicine, the isangoma are called to their profession by divine powers and perform tasks like predicting the future and using their psychic abilities to
protect against evil spirits. Isangoma verge on being religious leaders in their communities, using trance and musical rituals to communicate with ancestors. Both inyanga and isangoma are viewed with respect in their culture and must undergo years of training; they are often consulted for a variety of problems, from health to spiritual.

@Elephantom

You could just put the Isangoma description on him, rather than just explaining his abilities. That makes him seem more like a super powered person, aside from being a witch doctor. With that said, that explanation really clears things up, and I apologize for my confusion. The original description just confused me.

Thanks for the tip... @Eunoia.

But the real question here is:

Will turtle accept a spirit-talking, cursing, voodoo using warlock?

It's still a warlock, so I would think so? That's actually a more commonly recognized vision of a warlock, so it seems like it would. My witch borderlines on entirely dark magic, so it's really possible. @Elephantom

What do you guys use to demonstrate something is being spoken in another language? I use italics sometimes and I used to use these things < >. I don't know what most people associate with another language, though.

It depends really. If I know the language that the character is using (say, Swedish, Danish or Norwegian) I will write it in that language, and put a * at the end, then put the translation at the bottom of the screen. But I also use italics if it's a language I don't know, or am too lazy to translate.

If you'd like him to be only a witch doctor warlock, I'm fine with it.

Hi, I should be able to get it done tomorrow evening, I'm UK time. Had a bit of a manic week, sorry!
It's alright. Just a heads up that the roleplay will have begun!

Since I'm super lazy and don't trust google translate I tend to just write when my character is speaking in another language in a different colour. Although that's just me. I like to put a little note about it on my character sheet beforehand so people know.

Ok because I plan on having Insaf and Elizabeth converse in Arabic, at least when they're alone together and wanted to know if there was a way I should do it to make it clear. I think I'll do it in italics and just references it at one point during the post. I know Spanish and French, but not Arabic unfortunately and Google Translate is not my friend (my freshman Spanish grade can tell you that).

Alright. Awesome!

ZGF-John-E-Jaqua-013.jpg

Store Appearance Description: The Center has gotten upgrades over the years, having started as a simple one-story building with only a few rooms and made almost entirely out of wood. As times have passed, it has turned its exterior from wood to white, smooth concrete with large panes of windows peering out into the street. The building is now a whopping five stories tall, with a basement that serves as a training ground for magician for more explosive talents. There are many rooms designed to handle a specific set of tasks, from padded-walls to protect werewolves from themselves, to rooms with tables and chairs to aid youngsters in figuring out fractions.

NPC Employees: Gerald Yonclef (current CEO), Tyler McVan (current CFO), Olivia Lin (current treasurer)

Employees: None at the moment

Hiring or Not: Yes, a new tutor for magic and for cooking

Small Description: The Coleman Center is a place designed to aid supernatural creatures in all their potential problems. They teach newly turned werewolves and vampires how to control their powers and about their new nature, and offer help to both young and old magic users that might not have a grasp on their talents yet. They also offer lessons on basic life skills, such as cooking, alongside more typical tutoring lessons such as math and grammar. The Center is named after its founder, Nicholas Coleman, who founded it in hopes of helping the newly turned, like he once was, have a better time reintegrating into society. The Coleman Center has been around for nearly half a century now and is larger than ever.

It's more of a tutoring center than an actual college; my idea was to have it have single classes for people so they didn't have to be college-aged in order to get help in certain areas. Like Kumon and that sort. The main purpose is to help newly-transformed get used to their new traits.

I got the idea verified by Turtle as well, so the idea just may appear poorly written in that post.

Yeah. I gave a tutoring centre the go. It does sound a bit college-y. Sorry I've been online and haven't addressed the thing. I've been working on a project and forgot to check up here.
