Daniel mulled it over, tilting his head side to side while he considered the options. There was more of a chance them getting together if they stayed outside, or so he thought.

"No, let's keep looking around. Who knows, we might have some fun," he said, a hint of flirtiness could be heard in his tone of voice.

Zach nodded, his smile growing even wider. He was happy Daniel had said he wanted to stay out here. Looking up, he noted that the sun was now gone and the sky a dark bluish color, but through the trees it was darker than it should have been at this time.

"Can I tell you a secret?" he asked looking down at the ground. He then continued not waiting for a yes or no from Daniel. "I'm afraid of the dark.."

What Zach had said was a surprise to Daniel, it wasn't what he had been expecting. It was understandable though, scary things could lurk in the darkness.

"You sound ashamed of that," he noted, squeezing Zach's hand and entwining their fingers as a sign of reassurance. "Can I tell you a secret?" He paused just like Zach had before saying, "I can actually walk fine, I just really wanted to hold your hand."

Zach looked at his fingers, intertwined with Daniel's and then up at his face. He had suspected that he was able to walk but didn't expect him to actually admit it. "You.. Like holding my hand?" This was all new to Zach, he had never actually held hands with anyone outside of family or hugged or kissed..

Daniel nodding, glancing up from his feet to look at Zach's face. "Yeah, I do. Is that weird, cause we can stop. I don't know, I just feel like this is a good thing..." What a stupid thing to say, but it was true and Daniel refused to not speak his mind right now.

Zach shook his head quickly. "No, I like it too. It's just.. I don't know.. I guess I'm not used to this stuff." He walked next to Daniel, his thoughts a whirlwind in his mind. He hoped Daniel didn't think he was rushing things.

"How come you're not used to it? Are you uncomfortable, cause we can slow down." He said that as though they were going really fast, although they had just met and if you looked at it a certain way it was fairly fast. "Or we can just skip all the awkwardness and act like we've known each other for a long time."

He shrugged a bit. "I've never done it before." He then mulled over the two options Daniel had given him. The first sounded nice to him, after all he had mentioned that he'd never done these things before. It would give him time to savor these feelings inside him, to learn how to develop this low tide into a roaring wave. But the second option, this was definitely a choice he could also make and be happy with, after all, Zach was a pretty impatient person. His eyebrows furrowed together and he nibbled his bottom lip as he thought this all out. This decision was too much to make on his own. "Well, what do you think?"

Daniel glanced at Zach's lower lip stuck between his teeth and it briefly crossed his mind that he'd like to be the one doing that. The problem with their situation was that... Well there were lots of problems. Zach was inexperienced, they had just met and Daniel was really in the mood for the second option.

"You're the inexperienced one, you pick." he said, shrugging nonchalantly.

Zach thought for a bit longer, then smiled slightly as he finally came to a decision that he hoped Daniel would like. His smile grew wider as he began to talk. "I think I choose-" His words were abruptly cut off by his strangled yelp as he tripped, again, over a tree root. He landed hard on his back and found himself staring up at Daniel, their noses less than an inch apart. "The second option.." He whispered.

"Thank God," he said, not moving in the slightest bit. "I really think I'll like the second option," he added as an after thought, now moving slightly into a more comfortable position, straddling Zach's lap. He sat up, pulling Zach up with him. Now they sat face to face, still quite close.

Daniel's eyes flitted down to Zach's lips and back up, his own lips lifting at the corner's slightly. He leaned forward, pausing slightly right before their lips touched as though he were going to pull away, but he didn't and their lips touched in a gentle kiss.

Zach held his breath all the while as he watched Daniel study him. His heart lept into his throat ad the other boy leaned in close. In the short pause before the kiss, Zach felt his heart beat even faster. When their lips met everything stopped. The world stopped spinning, the wind stopped rushing, the leaves stopped rustling, and his heart stopped beating. And here in this moment, all that mattered was Zach and Daniel, and although it wasn't an intimate kiss, it was an intimate moment, at least for Zach.

After what felt like hours but was probably no more than 5 seconds, Zach sat back, his face as red as it had ever been. He couldn't believe they had actually kissed but now he was so embarrassed, he couldn't bring himself to look up at Daniel, for fear of encountering a disapproving gaze.

Daniel sat there, jaw agape. He felt warm inside, but other than that he couldn't describe exactly what he felt at the moment. After a second or two he moved to sit back against a tree and he lifted a hand to his mouth to cover his smile.

"That was enjoyable," he said, reaching out in the dark to grab Zach's hand.

Zach grabbed his hand and situated himself next to Daniel. It was pretty dark out but for some reason his fear had subsided, being replaced by some odd bubbly feeling. He squeezed Daniel's hand and laughed quietly at his comment.

"Yeah. Enjoyable is definitely a word that can be used," he said, still laughing.

"So enjoyable I'd do it again," he said, mostly to himself. He waited a few seconds before smiling and twisting and kissing Zach again. This kiss lasted longer and Daniel was more certain of himself now that he knew Zach liked the first kiss.

Zach smiled when Daniel moved to kiss him and kissed him back. When he pulled away, his face was flushed not from embarassment, but rather from excitement. He nibbled his lower lip thoughtfully before speaking. "Um... Do you think we should head back soon?"

Daniel grinned, his soft lips warm from the recent contact. "Yeah... beds are certainly more comfortable than forest ground." He stood up while he talked, pulling Zach up with him. They walked back, their hands still entwined.

"Classes start tomorrow," he said, trying to make conversation. "Which courses did you pick?"

Zach shrugged at Daniel's question. He actually wasn't sure what courses he had, seeing as his parents had done all the work when it came to applying for James Francois. "I'm not sure. I plan on going to the office first thing tomorrow. How about you?"

"I took all AP just for fun. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it, but I'm a hard worker and I'll figure it out." He looked over at Zach and offered a smile. "I'll go to the office with you." He hoped they had some classes together, but Zach didn't seem like the AP kind of person so Danile doubted they'd get a class together.

Zach's eyes widened when Daniel said that he took those AP classes for fun. "For fun?! You sure get your kicks in a strange way," he commented thoughtfully. "But," he continued, "the chance my parents put me in at least one AP class is pretty high so we may have some classes together." Zach smiled at this thought, the idea of having a class with Daniel making it almost impossible not to. It'd be fun, passing cute notes back and forth with lame little messages on them. But it would be romantic, and Zach absolutely loved romanticism.

Daniel shrugged as though it weren't anything serious. "I push myself really hard," he explained, "High expectations, you know." His thumb rubbed circles on the back of Zach's hand and he realized how clammy his hand felt. The realization made him want to pull his hand back and wipe it on his pants, but that would probably be even more embarrassing. "Hopefully we do have some classes. It'll be fun."

Zach nodded and exhaled shakily, realizing that he had been holding his breath while Daniel traced small patterns on the back of his hand. With his free hand, he ruffled his own hair and sighed deeply, already stressed about the school that hadn't yet begun. This was a flaw of his, always worried and extremely pessimistic about the outcomes of different situations. It was something he'd have to work on and be able to conquer if he wanted this year to go smoothly.

As they came closer to the school building, Zach unconsciously shrunk away from the structure. Part of this was because of the huge intimidating size of it, but another part was just him not wanting this time with Daniel to be over.

Daniel noticed how Zach shrinked into himself, slowing down his pace by a surprisingly significant amount. He frowned and came to a complete stop, turning to look at the other boy. "What's wrong?" he asked, his worry clear in his tone of voice. His finger drawings had stopped, the back of Zach's hand now an untouched canvas.

Zach stood nervously, shifting his weight from foot to foot. His gaze was fixed on the ground and he pulled his hand away from Daniel's. "I know this is silly but..." He trailed off as he fixed his piercing gaze on Daniel, searching the face for some reassurance. "I don't want this to be a one time thing. I know I'm not anything special and I don't want the school year to start yet.. For there to be other, better people." This tumbled out of his mouth before he could stop it. He was jealous, jealous of something that hadn't even happened yet. And this jealousy made him fear the upcoming year. He didn't want to lose this small connection he had felt with Daniel.

Daniel smiled and squeezed Zach's hand reassuringly. "It's not silly." He started walking again, his free hand running through his hair as a playful smirk splayed across his full lips. "After all, people are just lining up to date me." This was a joke but after a second he figured that Zach needed a serious statement to comfort him. Daniel's hand slid from Zach's hand and up his forearm to his elbow and back down with a feather light touch. "You must be pretty special if you can make me feel how I feel right now," he said, "And that makes you better than anyone."
