Name: Daniel Beckham

Nickname: Beck

Age/year: 17/Junior

Talents: Visual arts, specifically painting and drawing

History: Daniel was put up for adoption when he was 7 years old after an incident with his older brother that ended up with him (the brother) to be charged with assault and put in a mental hospital. His parents were worried that Daniel would turn out like their other son and so to avoid even more shame they got rid of him. His new family was very rich, but still quite trouble, a few years and another adoption later they split up. Daniel lived with his adoptive mom after the divorce and she was a very talented artist, teaching him everything she knew.

Personality: Daniel is a fun boy, always in a good mood and usually easy to please. He rarely gets annoyed or bothered by anyone other himself, as strange as it sounds. Ever since he was young he forced himself to achieve a high standard, making him the perfect candidate for James Francois Academy. Although he's often too hard on himself he knows when to take a break, and those times are usually when he's feeling the best. Daniel likes to keep moving, go on adventures and try new things. This restlessness can often get him in trouble but over the years the school's strict rules have started to get to him, which he really doesn't like.

Name: Zach Fraiser

Nickname (opt.): N/A

Age/year: 16/Junior

Talents: Musical Prodigy

History: Zach's life has been run by music for as long as he can remember. As a young child, he remembers his parents buying him a kiddie drum set for fun and then becoming extremely surprised as they realized Zach wasn't just banging away on it but actually making decent rhythms with it. Soon after this they decided to test out many different instruments on their peculiar son and when the realized he easily picked up on how to play each of these, they enrolled him in a visual performing arts school and in many after school activities. At first, Zach thought this was awesome. But then, he realized that he had no freedom. His parents forced him to practice all of his instruments, as well as his school, and also his peers. He felt as if everyone he knew only knew him because they wanted him for his talent and not him. When the letter from James Francois Academy arrived in the mail one day, his parents jumped on the offer and Zach smiled, but secretly he was hiding his utter disgust.

Personality: Zach tries hard to be a positive person but it doesn't do anything to hide his pessimistic personality. He is a good student only because his parents want him to be. But, Zach is generally a happy person and loves to make jokes.

The only instruments he really enjoys playing is the guitar.

((Ok sweet wow he's a cutie... Ok I'm working on the starter right now.))
When Daniel got to the school he was surprised by how many people already seemed to be settled and were outside mingling with the others. There were the artists showing each other their sketch books, and the musicians huddled by the brick wall, surrounding a few people who were strumming guitars. Even though it was his second year at this school he was still quite scared.

The sun was out and it was a warm 77 degrees. and as Daniel walked towards the front entrance he stopped, dropping his bags on the ground so he could take his dark blue hoodie off. There were lists on the front door which he quickly read to find out where his dorm was.

Meeting and getting used to a new roommate was always difficult for him. He hated small talk and really disliked the awkward conversation amongst mere strangers. He mulled this over as he hoisted his bags back up on his shoulder and continued his way to the dorms.

Zach wandered around outside of the school building and studied the kids gathered outside. He figured this was going to be a pretty decent year but the constant nagging voice in the back of his head made him dread meeting his roomie. What if guy was mean? Zach shook his head and gripped the strap of his duffel bag harder. He sighed as he realized most people already had their groups of friends set and as he experienced in the past, groups weren't usually open to new people. 'Oh well' he thought as he watched the guitar players. They were pretty good but he knew he could blow them all out of the water. Which is exactly what he wanted to do.. After he unpacked of course.

He noticed a mass of students crowded around the front door and waited patiently at the end on the line to see where his name was. When the crowd finally dispersed, his eyes flicked hurriedly across the list. He noted his dorm number then slipped inside the air conditioned hallways of the school.

Daniel entered the room cautiously, glad that he was the first person there. The room was fairly large and he picked the bed farthest from the door, setting his bags on in. He took the room key from its spot on the bed side table. There was an identical key near the other bed.

From the bedroom window they had a view of the field and although it wasn't the most picturesque thing sight of the campus, Daniel still appreciated it's unique beauty. He stepped back to sit on his bed, placing his hands in his lap. The image of the field and the forest beyond was still in his mind and he imagined himself exploring the woods again like he had last year. He'd like to do it again, but because he got in trouble last year, the chances of anyone going with him were slim.

Zach gently pushed open the door and rolled his biggest suit case in first the his smaller. His guitar was strapped on his back along with his duffel back which contained most of his music stuff. Sitting the bags down by the nearer bed, he then lifted his shirt and wiped the sweat off his face. After doing all this he finally noticed the boy sitting on the other bed and nearly jumped out of his skin.

"My goodness you scared me! I didn't even see you at first.. I'm Zach." He said offering a friendly smile.

He had been watching the boy since he walked in, and smiled back when he finally noticed him. "I'm Daniel," he introduced himself, rubbing his cold hands against his jeans to warm them up.

Daniel moved one of his bags onto his lap, opening it and setting some folded clothes into a neat pile beside him. "Are you going to the opening ceremony?" he asked as though testing the conversational skills of his roommate. If he was stuck with another quiet nerd for a whole year he'd die of boredom.

Zach scratched his head as he situated himself at the foot of his bed. He made a face when Daniel mentioned an opening ceremony. That would just involve a few adults droning on and on about how fantastic the upcoming year would be. How boring that would be and on top of boring an utter waste of time. "Is it mandatory?" he asked the other boy. He'd very much prefer to do something more fun.

"Yes," he said, chuckling slightly. "But that doesn't matter." He looked out the window, suddenly getting an idea. "Wanna ditch with me? We can go explore the woods." Daniel stood up and stepped back to examine his side of the room.

He figured there was enough room for his all his art stuff so he started setting it out, starting with his largest easel. which he put near the end of the bed. Luckily there was a smaller room attached to the dorm room, which he guessed was for storage.

Zach dumped his duffel bag out on his bed then set about folding up the clothes. He thought about the proposal Daniel had made. It seemed for to go and explore the woods but he remembered the rules strictly prohibiting that. He paused in mid fold to mull it over it his head.

"Sure why not," he decided, shrugging his shoulder and shaking his head. Although he hoped they'd be back before nightfall. He had an embarrassing fear of the dark. He tilted his head at Daniel's easel and smiled. "You paint?"

Daniel nodded, setting his paint set on the desk and his sketch books in the cupboard up top. "Yeah, I draw and stuff too, but painting is the reason I'm here," he replied, sitting back on his bed. "And I'm gonna take a wild guess that you play guitar," he added, grinning while he motioned to the guitar case with a flick of his head.

Zach stared at Daniel while he got situated smiling to himself all the while barely listening to what he was saying. He found the other extremely attractive. He was caught off guard when Daniel had stopped talking and motioned at his guitar. His cheeks grew hot and he knew he was blushing. "Uh sorry.. What did you say?"

Daniel couldn't help laugh as Zach floated back to earth. "I was just being a smart-ass," he said, shaking off what he had previously said with a wave of his hand. "You're distracted already and we haven't even had a class yet. What's on your mind?"

While he talked he sat cross legged on the bed. So far Zach seemed all right, they might even become friends, maybe even more. That was one of Daniel's plans for the school year. He wanted a boyfriend, and he figured it would be easier now that he was out.

Zach shook his head a little and grinned. He thought for a second and moved over to Daniel plucking a pretend fluff out of his hair while laughing quietly. "You had a fluff," he said obviously lying, "And I figured that a true friend would get it for you so I did." Zach poked the boy shoulder then moved onto the floor by Daniels bed.

Daniel looked into Zach's eyes and said seriously, "You don't need to lie in order to touch me." He was quiet for a moment and then laughed, rocking back and forth slightly. "But come on, the opening ceremony should have just started so we should leave while it's in progress. He stood up, purposefully knocking Zach's knee with his foot.

Zach ran his fingers through his hair nervously as he looked back, the intensity of the gaze making him a bit uncomfortable. He was grateful when Daniel laughed and shook his head a bit. He really need to work on his lying skills. Rubbing his knee and climbing to his feet, Zach followed after Daniel. "What grade are you in?"

"I'm a junior," he said, grabbing his sweater and pulling it over his head again. The shade from the trees would make it seem colder than it really was. "What about you?" Daniel waited patiently by the door for his 'true friend' to hurry up and get ready to leave.

"Me too." He answered while rummaging through his bags, making his side of the room messy already. He pulled out a soft hoodie and put it then looked over at Daniel. "How long are we gonna be out there...?"

Daniel grinned, holding the door frame. "As long as we want," he replied, shrugging while he stepped back and headed down the hallway, figuring that Zach would just follow.

Some of the school rules were normal, no smoking or drinking (Daniel always broke this rule, but it was rare now), no leaving school property without permission (this rule was broken as well, but less often as well), no violence, be respectful, etc. etc.

Zach slipped his hands into his pockets and followed behind, humming the tetris theme song aloud. He was looking forward to exploring the woods but a small part of him was afraid they'd be caught. As he trailed after Daniel, he took the time to examine the inside of the dorm area more than he had before. He hadn't realized exactly how prestigious this all was.

There was no one wandering the building apart form them and when they got outside it was almost like a ghost town. The sight made Daniel laugh.

"This school has every single one of their students wrapped around their finger. It's so disgusting. You'll be successful after you graduate but for the next four year's you won't have any freedom."

Zach tilted his head as he listened. He knew there were rules, just as every other school had rules, but he didn't find the controlling. "Why do you say that? All school's have rules here and there." He said, shrugging nonchalantly. Zach was certain the other boy was over exaggerating. Or perhaps Daniel was just more of the rebellious type.

"There's lots of rules, but I just don't like how we have to follow their routine. Eat at this time, right here. Never ever be late to class even if you have a reason. And this one time I was so sick I couldn't move so I couldn't tell the teachers that I wouldn't be in class and the vice-principal came knocking on my door and it was all I could do not to throw up on him."

They were half way across the field and Daniel turned around, walking backwards so he could see Zach. "But what about you? Do you like the school?"

Zach shook his head and laughed a bit as he imagined an angry vice principal storming up to his door. But now that he thought about it, he realized that the rules weren't just to keep them safe. The rules controlled almost every aspect of their daily lives. Sort of like a... "Totalitarian regime!" He said aloud, surprised he could conjure up something so remote from his memory of history lectures.

zach had been staring at the ground all the while and didn't notice when Daniel turned around. He made a face when asked if he liked the school. "Well.. This is actually my first year here.. I don't think I have a true opinion on whether I like it or not.." Even as he said this he knew he was leaning more towards despising the confining rules. He wasn't exactly a rule breaker but with so many rules, some were bound to have to be broken.

Daniel hadn't realized that it was Zach's first year and he uttered, "Oh, I didn't know you were new, my bad. I probably shouldn't be mouthing off about the school then."

He turned back around, shoving his hands in his hoddie's pocket. "Ok, how about another question. Do you genuinely like being talented? It's surprising how many people here are pushed against their will by their parents."
