Kay looked at Elliott when he spoke up. He made really good and valid points, and she had stifle a chuckle watching him and John talk with each other. It was like watching the roles of father and son get reversed and she found it amusing.

She clapped her hands together firmly and exhaled, "okay! That's a start I can work with" she replied confidently. Though it did make her think of the figure she and Chas witness. "So...where and when shall we start?" She asked. It may have come across to anyone else as stupidly eager and they'd be right in thinking that. That eagerness came from a much more serious mindset though and she wanted to prove herself to these guys. She refused to be a damsel in distress.

"First of all you people need to get out of my head and back to the real world. It's the only place to train properly. I'll give you the boot and follow shortly after, I need to check on something first. So, adios" Before John or Kay could say anything to the contraray, he made a flicking gesture with his hand and John and Kay found themslevs flung backwards violently. They broke free of Elliott's mind and were once again back in John's grotty apartment.

Chas looked up from his paper "took you long enough. Did El go all Inception on you guys in there?" John nodded, then shook himself and stretched to relieve the strange stiffness that accompanied being under Elliott's power. He then pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

Elliott remained seated on the coffee table, his legs crossed and his eyes unfocused but glowing. He looked like a strange buddha paraody.

Kay blinked several times when she came to and back in John's kitchen. She too stood up to stretch and was amazing herself at how well she was just accepting what just went down.

She stretched her arms over her head and repeated the action on the other side before just taking a few steps back and forth to get the legs moving once more so they wouldn't go dead.

"So.. I'm a flipping phoenix. A flipping Firebird!" she thought to herself as the reality kicked in properly. "Well, now my name makes sense and why my folks would call me their little FlameBird when I was a kid" she thought to herself. Her face showing clearly she was in deep thought.

John blew smoke in the vague direction of the celing, Chas continued with the cryptic crossword (which he had nearly finished in the time the three had spent under.) They both looked totally relaxed but really their minds were crowded with thoughts.

John's were something along the line of "what on earth have I got myself into? Why did I agree to this? What did Elliott mean by "it shouldn't have happened at all"? Why do I have the feeling he is hiding something? Or many somethings? He is my adopted kid, I shouldn't pry, but so ething is up with him"

Chas's thoughts were along the lines of "I hope Trish is getting on okay and that Elliott pulls through on coming over. Those two need each other. Even Renee likes him, surprising considering who adopted him. Kay seems to be dealing remarkable well with all this, how long until she cracks or John does something incredibly stupid? Also buy milk and dark chocolate oreos"

Kay walked over and leaned over the sofa at Chas' crossword. She couldn't help it, it was another of her bad habits from when she was a kid. "27 down- meticulous" she pointed before realising she just interrupted him. "Sorry. Another habit of mine" she apologised sheepishly.

She made herself not tell John he shouldn't be smoking as she could easily imagine the kind of response she'd get. "Best stay quiet on that subject girl" she thought to herself. Though she couldn't deny that where she normally found smoking utterly and undeniably annoying and disgusting, it did give John a kind of vibe about him that fitted him well. She mentally shook her mind back to sense.

"Kay...stop seeing John in a different way. There's no time for that" she thought to herself.

Chas merely shrugged and filled it in, "it could be worse. Trish just steals the paper and fills in the entire thing before I can even look at it. She's a smart one and'll go far" there was fondness and pride in his voice, he clearly loved his only child and would do anything for her.

"Speaking of kids" John interrupted "do you think there is something up with Elliott?" His tone came off cool and not to concerned, but John had practice masking his concern. Far too much practice. Chas was the one person in the room he could ask this question to. Chas put his head to one side and considered "He has been acting strange now that you mention it, he's been more secretive than usual. He hasn't said anything about where he's been. He's got something on his mind, I can tell."

Kay smiled, that's one thing she would never do. She was about to reply but John interrupted them and she looked over at him, walking round the sofa and sitting down.

When they mentioned about the way Elliott had been acting she glanced over him. She then thought back to the slight role reversal that happened between him and John. However, she didn't know Elliott really so she couldn't exactly chime in.

She did wonder if he just had personal stuff on his mind. Though considering their lives she thought that unlikely. "I know it's not my place to say but maybe he's just got personal stuff on his mind? Stuff he feels he can't talk to parental figures about? I mean... I don't know how old he is but I'm guessing pretty young. I know in my twenties I had all kinds of shit on my mind I could talk to friends about but not any kind of parental figure" she suggested.

For the first time in a while she actually showed her age. Before now they must have taken her as some 20something kid, but she was 30 and sometimes...just sometimes showed it.

Chas sighed, "He's older than he looks. It could be personal who knows, the anniversary is coming up soon isn't it?" John nodded "next week to be precise. It could be that affecting him, but somehow I think it is something more" "Well whatever it is, it'll be locked up tight." For Kays benefit he added "He had it extremely rough before John found him." He shook his head sadly "but like the rest of us he just locks up the memories and keeps going."

John exhaled another cloud of smoke. "Best thing we can do is not to pry about it. He's entitled to his secrets, we all are." Chas couldn't help but agree "So what's our next move" He didnt need to say what he was talking about, but it was clear he meant next move regarding Kay

She always made sure to look at each of them as they spoke. She may have lost her folks early on but Ethan's folks didn't raise a rude kid.

"I see, okay. It was just thought. I grew up with no parents from the age of 9, so just it was a possibility. But you're right, we're all allowed our secrets" She agreed. Then Chas asked what the next move with her, "training. I'm not gonna run or sit back and let myself be used." She said simply.

If John was normal this was where he would have chimed in with some sort of "oh Im so sorry to hear that" or some form of anecdote about his parents. But John was John and wasn't about to go into his pas. He could just imagine it. Him leaning back in the chair going"Well my mother died giving birth to me. My father never got over it and abused me as a kid, hence why I set the partmnet on fire...with him in it." and Kay giving that shocked and horrified face that people always gave when they heard the 'John Constantine origin story'.

"Parkour?" "Parkour" "Who's teaching?" "Probabaly all three of us, I guess, you up for that?" "In other words a chance for you two to show off, the challenge each other to a parkour skills duel resulting in somebody falling off a building?" "That was one time!"

She looked between them as was becoming a regular motion from her. When Chas mentioned about this duel that happened she couldn't help but tuck her feet up under her on the sofa, draping one arm over her knees and get VERY intrigued.

"Okay, you two can't say shit like that and NOT expect me to get intrigued and need to know the story there" she grinned. She loved a good epic fail story like the next person. "So spill. I wanna know the whole story" she said, looking back and forth at them both.

John and Chas opened their mouths to speak, but at that exact moment an interruption came in the form of Elliott re-emerging from his mind. Kay would realise that being interrupted during stories was just a part of regular life for Constantine, Elliott and Chas. Elliott groaned and flopped backwards onto the coffee table. "Don't mind me, continue with what ever ye were doing while I wasn't around" he moaned.

The story goes something like this; "this idiot" he gestured at John "was teaching this idiot" he gestured at Elliott "how to do parkour. Of course these two couldn't do this in a normal way, they had to make a competition out of it. So I suggested a race, to see once and for all who was better." Elliott chuckled from the table, knowing what was coming next "best idea he ever had" "Of course we agreed, who wouldn't?" "of course they started showing off, you'd think they were doing bloody Olympic gymnastics or something! So they were swinging around like there was no tomorrow and out of nowhere comes this pigeon, that startles the living shit out of John, who loses control and hits Elliott, who flies into me, and I fall off the roof. Luckily I didn't die, I used my own parkour skills, which are better than those two put together to stop myself from becoming Chas pancake."

(last one for today)

Kay glanced over at Elliott when he came round before looking back to Chas and John. The moment Chas started the story off with calling them both idiots she had a feeling this would be a good story.

She listened intently, smiling. She chuckled at the Olympics remark whilst not saying a word. However, when Chas mentioned about John getting startled over a pigeon she looked at John and laughed, holding her hands up to her mouth.

"Oh my god! Haha!" She burst into laughter that just rang through the house. A laughter she hadn't had in a very long time. One that made her head tilt back before falling forward and she slapped her knee.

"Wow..just wow! That did not disappoint!" She chuckled, composing herself.

Elliott from his position on the coffee table started laughing again, the story was funny looking back. Chas joined in shortly after, the laughter was too infectious. The story was far too funny all things consdiered. John even managed to smirk at it, even though he full well knew he was the butt of the joke.

Ellliott eventually got up and made his way over to the frdge which he had helpfully stocked up last night. He knew John wouldn't have any food in the house, or if he did ot would be frozen and/or out of date. Mindwalking left him ravenous, so he proceeded to make himself three massive sausage sandwiches. He the proceeded to eat them all in about two minutes flat.

"Steady on there squire" John chuckled, "last thing we need is you geting sick during parkour training." Elliott just made an up yours gesture and continued eating.

It felt good to be surrounded by laughter. Kay for just that split moment in time, felt like there wasn't anything bad coming for her and life was good. Of course, as she composed herself reality smacked her head on the head metaphorically speaking.

She glanced behind her by tilting her head back to see what John was commenting on and she just smirked before tilting back forward again. As she did so, her flame ombre hair fell across her face. Scrunching up her face disapprovingly, she used her fingers to sweep her hair back and up into a messy ponytail, pulling a hair tie off her wrist, that she always makes sure she has.

Stray hairs fell out of the ponytail but it framed her angular face so she didn't mind. She wasn't necessarily aware but her whole aura and vibe just seemed to change slightly since finding out what she was. There was an air of confidence in her now.

Chas looked at his watch and got up "I'll see you people later, I've got work to do. The cab still won't drive itself. John don't call unless its an emergency." "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know mate. If you hear anything inteesting or see our shadowy friend, let us know, will ya?" "Don't bother trying to ring me, my phone may have got slightly smashed to pieces." Elliott added, pulling out the extremely battered and mangled remains of a phone.

Chas nodded, grabbed his old jacket from the hook and walked out of the apartment. John stubbed out his cigarette. "Right then, Elliott, you're in charge. Try and teach her some basics, while I'm gone." Elliott opened his mouth as if to protest, but a look from John silenced him. With that, John grabbed his trenchcoat and left.

"bye Chas!" She called back to Chas as he left the apartment. Another prime example of her kindness. She then glanced at Elliott when he showed his mangled mess of a phone. "Eesh" she thought to herself, not that she was any better off. She ditched her phone months ago due to never needing one.

When John got up and put Elliott on duty of training her she seemed a tad curious as to why John was so eager to leave. She shook the thoughts from her mind before looking at Elliott.

"I'm all yours" she said to him. "I'm a fast learner so shouldn't be much of a problem for you" she added.

Elliott nodded, slightly annoyed that both John and Chas had walked out, leaving him on his own with the new person. It's not that he didn't like Kay, its just that she was new and he knew next to nothing about her aside from the fact that she was a pheonix. The issue was that he didn't trust her. Elliott's trust had to be worked for and could take a long time to be won. But he stuck by those he trusted, no matter what.

"That's good to hear, considering that you have a lot to learn. I guess I'll let you pick whether you want to start training on the roof or in the back alley." He was already pondering what the best way to start training her was.

She picked up on his distrust of her when both Chas and John left. The whole change of vibe he took on told her everything. "I'll prove to you I'm trustworthy" she thought to herself with determination.

She nodded and stood up. "Let's start in the back alley. I'll just go out my sneakers on" she told him with a smile. She then walked to the spare room John let her borrow and sat on the end of the bed, pulling on her converse and thing the laces up. It didn't take her long to come back into the main, zipping up a hoodie.

"Ready when you are maestro" she quipped.

Elliott nodded and when Kay walked into her room, he pulled out his second phone, the one John didn't know about. He typed out a quick message, his fingers dancing over the screen. The phone was silenced and shoved into his trouser pocket by the time Kay returned. The change of shoes gave Elliott an idea.

"Hold on a sec" was what he said before he walked over to the door of John's room. It wasn't locked, but had it been Elliott would have simply picked the lock and gone in anyway. He emerged a minute or two later with a backpack slung over one shoulder.

"Let's go then'then" he repeated the warding process as they left the apartment. He took the stairs three or four at a time, his long stride propelling him down all four flights with ease. The twp would emerge into the grimy back alley. It was dirty and smelt of cat piss, stale beer and rot. The walls were grimy with smoke stains, the ground dirty and full of cigarette stubs. The general awfulness kept people away, hence why it was perfect for secret parkour training.

"sure" she replied when he told her to wait as he went into John's room. She wondered what he was up to but yet again didn't even think about asking him. She needed to gain his trust so she just let him do whatever it was.

She followed him down the stairs, she was agile and quick despite not skipping steps like he had done. Stepping out into the back alley the smell certainly hit her senses, but it wasn't anything she wasn't used to. She spent her fair share unfortunately sleeping in grimy alleyways when she was on her own. She couldn't risk using all her money when she gained some on motels or b&b's so outside amongst the homeless was her only option alot of nights.

"Okay, where do we start?" She asked him, stretching her body to warm a little bit. Last thing she wanted to do was show herself up by getting a cramp or pulled hamstring and making an utter fool out of herself.

"In an alley-fight there are two positions that you never want to be stuck in. The first is being boxed in a corner or being blocked by a wall that is too tall to climb. It is those two positions that can lose you the fight, you have nowhere to run. Parkour can get you out of them. I'll start by teaching you two ways to get out of a corner, then I'll teach you how to walk up walls."

Elliott dumped the backpack and his coat on the ground. "It's easiest if I demonstrate first so you can see what each technique looks like done correctly, then I'll actually teach you how to do it." He sounded very much like he knew what he was doing, like this wasn't his first time teaching. He manoevred himself into the tight corner of the ally where the high wall met the wall of ghe apartment block.

"I need you to stand about a metre and a half in front of me, boxing me into this corner." he told her, gesturing to where she should roughly stand.

She listened intently to everything he was telling her. He wasn't wrong, it's why she tried to avoid these scenarios as best she could in the past, but knowing a way out if she did get caught would prove vital.

She nodded taking in his teaching method and feeling that was his method as it's how she best learned. She stood where he gestured. She had her hands casually on her hips like she usually would do when she gets into learning mode.

She was ready for this. She was ready to prove herself to Elliott.

Elliott took one look at her, then spun aroundm he jumped upwards raising his left knee almost to chin level. His left foot hit the wall and he pushed off it, gaining enough momentum to carry him upwards at an angle. He then pushed off with his right foot, then threw himself backwards flying over the top of Kay's head and landing behind her in crouch. It was the kind of crouch that a sprinter might start in. His movements were fluid, fast and well practiced, he seemed to just fly over her head and land behind her without any prior warning.

He stood up and turned to face her "that is what it looks like full speed, but you'll train slowly, perfecting the technique and then build up the speed from there. So how did I do that?"

She watched taking in his actions as best she could. She was fascinated by his speed and now the real hope of not making an utter fool out of herself was in full force.

She looked at him when he faced her again and asked her how he did it. "Okay... So you jumped up and used your left knee and then foot to push yourself up and off the wall. The momentum and angle calculation of that meant you could catch yourself and use your right side to force your body up and over me and to the open space to get away." She explained, hoping she pretty much got that right.

If she got anything wrong she'd feel a right fool after saying what a quick learner she was. "So.. How'd I do?" She asked him.
