The Forge Kitchen
"So if we started listing things we've studied or been interested in, then there's a good chance you might have studied them too?"
Cliff asked, now very interested in what exactly Jay had learned in her life. "Yep, you can give it a go if you want."Cal, Cliff and John were of course willing to try this out. "Well let's start with the obvious one then, medicine?" "Yep, some formal training, some just using whatever stuff is to hand to deal with whatever injury is to hand." "History?" "Yep, both our own history and a run down of the basics of space flight, civilisations spreading out, major empires, what you learn in regular school really." "Economics?" "Yep, it's all just maths and trends really."

John found himself switching between listening to the three women and Fia and Kay. The two seemed engrossed in talking to one another, a good thing, since he knew that Fia and future Kay had some issues with one another. He took their comfort together as his cue to fully switch over to the other conversation. "Agriculture?" "Not me personally, but that was a module option." "Poltics." Jay's groan made the answer very clear. "Yup, hated every single lesson, all politicians are the same really, there'll be an occasional outlier, but for the most part just....blech." She pulled a face to illustrate her point. "Cooking?" "A vital skill, both survival style, on a spacship galley and in a professional kitchen."

Although talking with her daughter, Kay was still paying attention to the other conversation about what Jay had indeed studied. She found it somewhat amusing that the others were trying to find that one subject she hadn't studied, only for John to instantly find it. She still paid attention to Fia though, as she got the feeling Fia didn't really just enjoy normal conversation with her much in the future. Fia didn't even need to tell Kay for her to know she was closest to John.

It seemed to Kay no matter the timeline she wasn't a great mother or person in general and she wanted that to change. She felt she had something to prove to everyone as well as herself. Kay didn't want to let anyone down when it came to being a mother. When Fia however acted like the parent and said about John not bringing her back too late, she smirked and rolled her eyes. "Alright smartass." She replied. "Just looking out for myself" Fia sniggered, gesturing at Kay's stomach and Kay had to admit that was pretty clever for Fia. Not to mention about the only time in her life when Fia could use that line and it's actually valid. "You're lucky I know the meaning behind that and find it's a valid comeback" Kay chuckled, making Fia look on smug before she leaned down and have her a half hug from the weird angle she was at.

Even though John had found one subject the questions kept coming. "Psychology?" "Yes, psychology is pretty damn important, both your own and somebody else's." "Culture?" "Yep, getting it wrong could get you dead on some planets." "Hunting?" "And fishing, though I'm better at the former." "Ballroom dancing?" "It's like a kata, just follow the steps and you don't make an ass of yourself, but luckily have had little occasion to dance. It's not my favourite thing." "Well there is a wedding coming up, so we might get to see those skills then?" Jay shook her head and smirked. "I'm only going for the food, and the cocktails."

That prompted laughter from Cal and Cliff, as well as Dan and Chas who'd finally arrived back from their scrap yard expedition. The two said their hellos, acknowledging the others there before Dan turned to Cal, questioning her in fast paced Attili, while Chas turned to John. "Pass us a mug will ya?" He asked, as John was closest to the rack. John looked at the selection, grabbed one and smirked. "Translate this mate." "I'm not sexy, I just work here." Chas read out, prompting fits of laughter from Cliff, Cal and Dan, before the blacksmith explained, in English for the benefit of the non speakers. "It's based on the assumption that everybody who works in a forge is a ripped and sweaty when working."

With the list ever growing of what Jay had studied, it was seeming Jay was becoming more and more impressive in Kay's mind. She had stopped talking with Fia after that last comment, just enjoying her daughter actually showing some kind of affection that wasn't because she was trying to take food. Her ears did pick up when Jay said about dancing which prompted the talk of the wedding and laughter. Both Kay and Fia looked up when they heard Chas and Dan arrive back, and watched as it all progressed onto the topic of what was on the mug John handed to Chas.

Both girls nodded at the explanation behind the choice of slogan on the mug. It all fell into place though Kay was convinced she could have worked it out for herself as there was a stereotype for forge work in so much pop culture. "So going back to the previous topic, I'm guessing that's at least two of you then who will refuse to dance at the girls' wedding." Kay commented. "I'm guessing it's J2 here" Fia smirked, meaning Jay and John.

The Forge Kitchen
Jay nodded, Kay's assumption was correct, she had no intention of dancing (even if it was Elliott who asked) and would prefer to just watch and enjoy the food. Or sneak away to get some time alone. "It's a firm pass from me, it's really not my thing or my kinda scene. And the few formal occasions I have danced at were business, as opposed to pleasure." Jay explained. John was the next to agree with Kay's assumption.
"You'd be right on that, I won't be dancing. There's actually a ban on me dancing in a place back home." John shot a look at Chas who nodded gravely. "It's more trouble than it's worth to get him to dance and after the last time, it's safer he doesn't." His tone said that this was an incident he wasn't going to give up any information on, so questioning him was futile.

"And I'll have to pass on the dancing, but not from lack of ability. My wife is my dancing partner, but she's back on Earth, so it wouldn't be right for me to dance" Chas explained. "Fair enough" Neither Cliff nor Cal were cut up or insulted by people not wanting to dance. "It's not like either of us have any dancing ability, but customs dictate we have to." "It'll be a miracle if I don't fall over myself or Cliff and end up crashed on the floor in an undignified heap." Cal added, prompting an eye roll from Cliff. "If you fall, please land on one of my annoying siblings whoever been giving the most annoyance that day."

Kay listened to all the stories from Jay, John and Chas about their dancing protests. She honestly understood where Chas was coming from and actually thought it was incredibly sweet he wouldn't dance with anyone but his wife and made her smile. She just didn't take John for the type and she certainly only danced in private, apart from that one time John caught her in the act. She also couldn't see herself doing much in her current state anyway. Which only left Fia who didn't ever care who watched her. "So that's J2 as Fia put it, Chas and myself out" Kay commented.

"Everyone but Chas is a boring sod. I'm letting him off because 1) he's my favourite uncle and 2) his reason is totally valid!" Fia declared smirking. "Not all onus are as carefree as you seem to be Fia. But I'm sure you'll find someone to dance with knowing you" Kay smirked back. She actually her kid's declaration of Chas being 'favourite uncle' very sweet, even if he would be her only uncle. "what can I say? When you got it you got it!" Fia grinned. Fia was surprised that Kay wouldn't at least dance a little, but she also got why at the same time. "Though I am surprised you wouldn't make the most of the opportunity" Fia looked at Kay. "I don't dance at group gatherings." Kay replied, giving her a look that said 'discuss my secret and I will disown you'.

The Forge Kitchen
Chas smirked as being called the favourite uncle, while at the same time directing a look at John, asking him not to retaliate on the whole dancing thing. The last time John had danced he had been possessed by a particularly strong demon attempting to use dark rituals to open a hell gate in the middle of London. John hadn't been much of a dancer before that, but the incident made him even less inclined to be. A minute inclination of the head from John told Chas he wasn't going to say anything. Nobody made a move to ask for anymore context on Fia's remark about Kay and dancing, the look from Kay was enough for them to know it wasn't worth it.

"What about the other teenager? I'm guessing the chances of her dancing are next to zero?" Cliff asked, deflecting the topic away slightly by aiming the question at Jay. The blue haired woman nodded, this exact topic had come up in conversation between the two of them. "Spot on. Her exact words on the topic were 'I'd be more likely to sing solo at the wedding than to dance at it, and me singing would take nothing short of a major miracle in the first place'." Jay's impersonation of Rinaa's tone when she said those words was spot on- a mix of annoyance, steel, sadness and the ever present element in her voice that suggested she was always holding something back and was one bad day away from a complete mental breakdown.

The forge kitchen

Fia wanted to say something but she knew the look well. She got it a few times in her time,so she kept quiet for once. Mostly if she was genuinely about to get into trouble for some reason or another. Like most kids, she had her moments of getting into normal trouble and getting the parental look that told her she was in deep trouble. Kay's face lightened up when Fia got the message. She didn't want her secret hobby to be discussed by people, and get the whole 'you don't strike me as the type!' conversation. To her, if was be enough that John knew, but she coped with him finding out as he swore he wouldn't say anything.

When Cliff directed it toward Rinaa and whether she would or wouldn't dance, Kay was thankful. As per the pattern, it seemed Rinaa wouldn't be dancing at the wedding either, meaning Fia would no doubt have to find someone else to dance with at the wedding. To Kay, it seemed that Fia was just the type to befriend anyone and get them on the dance floor so it wouldn't surprise me if she manages to twist the arm of one of Cliff's brothers or someone else to have some fun on the dance floor. "So you're on your own kid, unless you twist someone else's arm on the day" Kay smirked, aiming it at Fia. "I'll find someone!" Fia replied with, determination in her tone, with a hint of smugness.

The Forge Kitchen
At Fia's remark about finding somebody at the wedding Cal gave Cliff a smirk. "I bet you twenty it'll be Matteo that she'll drag onto the dance floor to dance with." Cliff considered the bet, her youngest brother was a likely suspect, and the closest in age to Fia out of all of her siblings. "There's a chance of that alright, but he'll have to beg for at least an hour until my parents relent and give him alcohol." She mused, tipping her head to the side in thought as to who she'd place her money on. "We all know Benji's going to dance with literally everybody who's dancing at the thing, so does he count as who I'd put my money on?"

Cal shook her head "nope, he doesn't count, he's in a category of his own." "Okay, then, I'll take that bet. Twenty says it will be one of the other two that dances with Fia before Matteo does." The two shook on the bet, knowing that none of the others bar Dan knew which sibling was which. All they knew was that Cliff was the second oldest, Benji the oldest and that she had three brothers and one sister. "So making bets on trivial stuff like that isn't just a human thing then?" "Not in the slightest it's totally universal, how else are you supposed to get cash and glory without doing any actual work?" Jay smirked, knowing that if she knew Cliff's siblings she would have been joining in, as would John.

the forge kitchen

Both Kay and Fia listened in on the bet, just the others would be doing. Kay rose an eyebrow at the bets and thoughts going on with a smile, whereas Fia smirked hearing that there were easily a few candidates she could have fun on the dancefloor with. She was also just excited about seeing other people and pretending for a short time that she had friends, even if they only would be meeting for the first time at the wedding.

Kay just chuckled at the response John hot from Jay about making bets on trivial things, figuring that bets were most definitely not just an Earth thing. "either way it seems Fia won't have a difficult time finding someone" she smirked, actually glad for her kid that she'd have something to look forward to and not feel like that time travelling outsider who wouldn't be able to enjoy herself. She was for a while worried that Fia would end up in the background of everything and feel out of place as well as out of time, so having a bet being placed on her and who she'd dance with actually reassured her that her child wouldn't be kept our of things.

The Forge kitchen
At Jay's answer John smirked, now almost certain that if he ever wanted to make a bet with somebody on something completly trivial almost, of not everybody in the room would be up for it. "Excellent." He smirked, leaning back against the spot of wall near him. "Nope, she won't have a difficult time finding somebody. And we'll be perfectly willing to do the running commentary on everybody and everything, along with handling all the awkward introductions at the start, as you won't be the only ones there meeting a whole pile of people for the first time."

"Which is probably a good thing, but I still guarantee that there is going to be a punch up between two hot heads." Cal added, figuring that she might as well give that warning sooner rather than later. "As yes, the classic side effect of putting pilots and their similar types together. If there's not a fight, then it's not a proper gathering." Seeing the look she was being given Jay rolled her eyes. "You have my word that I won't start anything." As she spoke those words she made the accompanying gestures for a solemn binding vow on her part, knowing that Cal and Cliff would understand the vow's significance. ".....but if somebody else feels starts something on me, then I'm taking that as fair game for me to beat them into next year."

The forge kitchen

Seeing John smirk, Kay knew instantly that he was taking that as a sign of 'im so going to be making bets with everyone now'. She knew what he was like and had seen plenty of bets between him and everyone else (including herself) back on Earth to know his mind worked. She then looked at Cliff when she confirmed Fia wouldn't have a problem at all and that they'd be doing all the usual introductions.

As the topic progressed in fights and the hoping of there not being one but they were preparing for it, Kay couldn't help but smirk. "Would it really be a wedding if there wasn't some kind of bust up or argument between people though? I know on Earth it's very rare a wedding or similar mass gathering happens without something confrontational happening" she remarked, joining in the conversation, whilst giving her stomach a gentle rub. She also didn't put it passed Jay to be involved in said confrontation, though she kept that part of her opinion to herself.

The Forge Kitchen
All the others in the room smirked at Kay's (correct) assumption. Each had their own story related to a wedding or a group gathering that had gone awry somehow. "Very true, there's been something at pretty much every mass social gathering I've been at, both verbal and physical, and I'm sure I'm not alone on that." "Yeah, you're not, there was one hell of a blow-up at my own wedding. And surprisingly John didn't cause it." John chuckled, remembering that day well, he hadn't started or gotten involved in anything, but there had been bitch fight between one of Chas' cousins and one of Renee's. "I genuinely had nothing to with it." He emphasised for the others benefit.

"Two of the cousins, one of his, and one of Renee's had this cat fight with one another as it turned out they were sleeping with the same guy." "They got over it in the end, he was a scumbag by the way. And it happened at the very end of the night, so it didn't really ruin anything." Chas added, knowing that as far as drama went, he'd gotten off pretty easily. "There was a funeral I was at where two relatives were heckling each others funeral speeches and it ended up with a broken nose and a trip to the hospital." Dan spoke, knowing that this was something he could contribute on. Jay didn't say anything, but she had quite a few stories, both with her being an instigator or a bystander.

The forge kitchen

Kay listened to the replies and stories, nodding. She was both surprised and yet not at all surprised that John didn't have anything to do with the bust up at Chas' wedding. She was surprised because of everything she had been told about how Renee hated his guts, but also not surprised because she knew he'd have more respect for his best friend than to start anything at his wedding. She listened to what actually happened and thought how typical it was.

She listened to Dan's story and thought that beat Chas' easily. She always thought starting an altercation at a funeral was beyond low and she found herself shaking her head at the story. Though she did have her own personal reasons for it. "I've had my adoptive family at war at a funeral too. My adoptive gran passed when I was 13, the family ended up blaming each other for it even though she died of old age. Ended up in a drunken punch up in the back yard and a cousin going through the fence and then being arrested" she told, what she left out was part of that argument was about whether she had any right to be there as she wasn't blood family. She didn't need to be reminded of that part of the shouting war.

The Forge Kitchen
Dan's story was definitely a step up and even Chas had admitted that the altercation at his wasn't really a big deal to him and didn't spoil the wedding. John had been on his best behaviour that day (which meant he spent most of his time smoking at the exit and downing cocktails) as Chas had given him an ultimatum for the wedding. "Well that's definitely a step up and sounds like it utterly sucked." The words had a deeper meaning, acknowledging the fact that it was tough for somebody wasn't a usual thing for him to do. "But it's better than being called a murderer at a family funeral. That particular funeral ended up with a punch up that trashed a good section of the church along with leaving two people unconscious." That had been John's father's funeral, and the claims weren't wrong. John had killed him and pretty brutally too.

After that statement had sunk in, Jay spoke up. "I won't say about wedding and funeral experiences for me, as they were either funerals of friends or business opportunities." It was perfectly clear what she meant 'business opportunities' the tone was unmistakable. "So I'll tell a different story instead. I was at a theatre, on what I was told was a protection job, but turned out to be a sting. It was the opening ceremony of the building, a very high profile gathering, black tie, boring dancing, those ridiculously tiny canapés, that kind of event. It was burst in on by a SWAT team, a quick in and out grab of some sleaze ball mafia boss, but it turned into a massacre. I got stabbed in the process and nearly bled out."

the forge kitchen

Kay nodded at John's words. Both hers and Dan's stories sucked but hearing what John said afterwards, she had to agree that was rather worse even if it was the truth. She is felt he didn't need to say whose funeral that was for her to take a wild guess at it being his father's, and from what little he had told her about him, she believed he deserved to be where he was, just like her own birth father. It always struck her that their two father's would probably get on well with their attitudes toward their kids.

She listened to what Jay had to say and she briefly rose her eyebrows then lowered them again hearing it. It amazed her how so many things that were meant to be a quick grab and go situation for people, always turned South really badly and really quickly. It really did sound like it sucked that she would almost have died because of something that was meant to be a simple thing. "Well that definitely sucks" she commented. Fia just nodded, staying out of the topic as she was literally the only one it seemed to not have a horror story of a mass gathering.

The Forge Kitchen
"Yeah, it was a pretty awful thing, but unfortunately that kind of thing falls under occupational hazard, so it's not like something going this far south at some point or another should be so surprising."
Jay shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal to her, but just relating the story gave her a momentary twinge to the scar on her side. "I take it there's a scar then if you nearly bled out? I know you can heal yourself, but I figure if you nearly bled out, there's got to be some kind of scar." Cliff was both asking and thinking aloud at the same time. "No flies on you eh?" Jay commented, she liked Cliff, the woman was whip smart, but also a solid person with some serious archery skills. "Well, considering its my job to know this kind of stuff, I like to think there isn't."

That response with just the right amount of sass made Jay smile. "The blade hit here" she gestured to the side of her left thigh. "It didn't sever any major muscles or ligaments, but it did hit a major artery, hence why the blood loss was so bad." "Could you walk on that?" Cliff asked, knowing that the pain would have been immense as Jay would have had to keep the blade stuck in her leg as pulling it out would make things worse. "I could, but it was painful, but I've learned a couple of tricks to distance myself from physical pain of serious injuries, though they usually result in me passing out from either exertion or blood loss."

(How'd you feel about time skipping ahead a few days here?)

(sounds good to me)

Since the talking and chilling out at the forge kitchen, a couple of days had passed. Not much had gone on of much significance with Kay, only the usual off dream where she spoke the native language of the Phoenix, dreams that included seeing her mother once again, they had become more and more vivid as her pregnancy went on. She could t work out if it was because she was becoming a mother herself or if it was something completely different. She only ever talked with John or Chas about what the dreams entailed. John because she couldn't keep them from him, and Chas incase it ever triggered a bit of that knowledge inside his mind.

Fia never spoke of what happened in Rinaa's timeline at the container, even though she could tell that both John and Kay could tell she was holding information back. She spent most of her time when not with the others for food or chit chat, in the room Chas have up for her playing her violin. She let Cliff check out the crossbow function on it but that was it.

Now Kay was walking out of the bathroom from the usual bout of morning sickness, in her leggings and striped jumper they bought two days ago. She felt a little rough but not as bad as last time. "Morning everyone" she greeted the room.

Rinaa didn't reappear until extremely late that night. She had the foresight to teleport herself to outside of the bathroom and her arrival was announced to the others by the sound of extensive vomiting. They knew it wasn't Kay, as she was with them. When Rinaa did emerge she was considerably more beaten up than when she left. Her lip was split, her knuckles scraped up, there was a cut on the side of her forehead that had been patched up along with a red mark on her cheek that she explained was from her ex giving her the most painful slap she'd ever experienced for vanishing without telling anybody. The rest of her injuries were from an emergency work call. She didn't speak about what she said to her family in her timeline and was quite than usual for the next day.

The dreams did trigger information in Chas' mind, confirming theories of what she was seeing and in some cases adding context to it. Rinaa came and went as she pleased and was almost finished her bike aside from giving it a proper paint job. Jay switched between helping out at the forge, exploring the city and visiting the shooting range and gym to let off some steam. Chas split his time evenly between being with the apartment group and the forge group. John had been to the city again, but this time with Elliott and Chas only. Elliott's scar was conclead and his hair covered by Rinaa's beanie and that was enough to let him pass unnoticed. Cal and Cliff were finalising the last wedding details and trying to calculate food and drink orders.

When Kay and John came in the others looked up greeting them too. As had become customary Jay, Cal, Cliff and Rinaa (if she was around) ran in the morning, while Chas perused the newspaper, sometimes with Dan, sometimes not. Today everybody was in the room (except Elliott, he'd had to leave during the night). "Morning" "My brother being the person he is left a present in the fridge." Cal informed them. "In other words massive quantities of pancakes, labelled and numbered, so no stealing" Cliff smirked, gesturing towards the fridge. Elliott now knew Dan's pancake order too.

Walking and being greeted back, Kay rose an eyebrow initially at Cal's statement before Cliff clarified it was a bunch of pancakes that Elliott made and labelled for each of them so no one could eat someone else's. This news made Kay smile and chuckle, "that boy is something else and I'm extremely glad about it" she smirked, walking toward the kitchen to see which order he had made her.

"How's everyone's morning anyway?" She asked. She also grabbed herself some water to wash out the after taste in her mouth. She made a point always to clean her teeth after but for some reason she could still taste the vomit she brought up. She took a moment to have a drink first before going for the pancakes, figuring John would be straight over to them.

John made a beeline for the fridge which had been filled with plates of pancakes. As promised, each one was labelled, with the number of pancakes made given so nobody could just casually nick one from somebody else's plate. It was classic Elliott food organisation. "Did he spent the whole night doing this before going back to the cell?" John asked, grabbing his large portion and sitting down on one of the chairs. "Pretty much yeah, he had me check the numbers over to be sure to be sure" Rinaa replied, looking up from her laptop. Jay had fallen asleep, which just left her and Elliott awake and they passed away the hours by just talking about nothing and getting used to the idea of having the other. In a way it was easier as neither had any preconceived ideas about what the other should be like.

"Calculating guest lists and double checking food and drink amounts. Looking at it here makes it look like we're getting in way too much, but people come to weddings for food." Cliff answered Kay's question first followed by Cal. "Plus her siblings are all on her home planet now and are trying to persuade her to come even earlier than planned." "Same with the parents, even though they prefer the idea of having all of us in the same place rather than the actuality of it." She chuckled at her own remark, pushing a hand up through the mess of purple hair. Cliff won the worst bed head competition hands down, it just seemed to defy the laws of gravity and the shade of purple made it particularly eye catching. "And as the resident doctor I have to ask how your morning is? Anything strange?" Cliff had taken to asking every morning, as technically she was Kay's doctor now.

Kay only half listened to the explanation of how Elliott achieved such an amount of pancakes for everyone whilst organising them all for each person. Her main focus was on how everyone else's morning was going and what Cal and Cliff was doing. She smiled and chuckled at the explanation of what they were dealing with. She noted the bedhair on Cliff but said nothing, knowing she could have it just as bad if she has a restless night and she remembered the state of Fia's from the other week.

When it came to asking her if anything strange had occurred for her, she shook her head. "Not really no. Just the usual morning sickness and twinges from the accelerated growth. Twinges are getting more uncomfortable but that's it." She explained. "Though I am still curious how it's going this fast..phoenix pregnancies should be six months, yet feels like it's happening faster than it should" she added. She then signalled for John to find her plate if pancakes for her whilst talking. She knew Cliff was just as much in the dark as she was about phoenix births, but she also knew she had been reading up on them, whilst also knowing if she didn't have Cliff and John around she probably wouldn't be coping nearly as well as she was. Though if John wasn't around she probably wouldn't even be pregnant.

Cliff had been doing what reading up she could, there wasn't any race she could fund remotely like a pheonix so she found a bunch of races with similar main traits and read about those. There was one particularly fascinating race that reproduced by absorbing fire and somehow using that fire to create an entire new being. There had also been races with six month pregnancies and between them there was quite a variety. Some seemed to grow at a consistent rate where as others seemed to grow in bursts, draining an incredible amount of energy during each growth phase, and then having a phase of greatly reduced growth speed to allow the body to recover.

"Thats been bugging me too, and I've been doing reading. Obviously there's nothing here on pheonixes, which would make sense if they never travelled to other planets. So I've looked into other species with sixth month pregnancies and there's mixed results. Some species grow at a consistent rate, but others grow in bursts. There is a phase of intensive energy draining rapid growth, followed by a period of greatly reduced growth where the body regains energy. So the second option is a possibility. Of course there always is the possibility that the lore is wrong and its not actually sixth months, or its sixth months by a different time measurement system. Basically, I got nothing" Cliff sighed with annoyance, while at the same time John passed over Kay's plate of pancakes.

Hearing that Cliff was being bugged by the rate she was showing in her pregnancy was actually a relief to Kay, and she guessed it'd be a relief to John also, as they both shared the anxiety if why it was happening. She could hear the annoyance in Cliff's tone as she explained what she had managed to do but was incredibly thankful for all the work she was putting into it.

"Second option does sound like a good possibility, but so does the third...thanks for finding out what you can though Cliff. I do appreciate it so much" she replied to her, whilst taking the plate from John, kissing his cheek as a thank you without even thinking about it. She grabbed a fork and began to eat her chocolate chip pancakes in between talking. "I could give you my book Cliff I got in my bag, see if there's anything in there?" Fia finally spoke up as she walked in after being in the bathroom after Kay and John had been. "Worst case scenario, you'll learn other stuff about phoenixes" she shrugged.

At Cliff's sigh of annoyance Cal wrapped an arm around her to-be wife and rubbed her shoulder. She, more than anybody knew just how much the accelerated growth was annoying her. Cliff both loved and hated a good medical mystery as it was an incredible chance to learn, but usually the patient wanted answers, putting pressure on her to find these answers. "That's what I was thinking too, either growth phases, or were measuring wrong." At the mention of a book which may hold answers she wondered why she hadn't been told about this until now. "I'll take you up on that, as I said, there's no papers or documents on Attili databases or any other databases I have access to with being's remotely like the pheonix. And for me, learning about other species is damn fascinating."

"She does this about every race she meets. Devra" Cal reeled off a list of various species that their friends belonged to, before finally ending with "humans and now pheonixes. I swear this one never stops working." Cliff rolled her eyes, it was a statement she'd heard many times before. "I can't turn off that bit of my brain and you full well know it." "It's a sign of a good doctor" Jay remarked, taking a mouthful of her pancakes and gesturing her fork at Cliff's direction. "And besides, it better not being able to switch off not being a doctor then....not being able to switch of being a sewer inspector." "True that."
