In the Dojo (O.O.C. Chat - Session Zero)

Hope you're feeling better!
Getting there! Recently, life's had its challenges since Hurricane Helene. =)

Can't find daredevil on the list, though I might have missed it.
Wow! I don't see it either, and I can't find it on the internet. I remember a character another player used to play who had Daredevil. My guess is that it was replaced with Bon Vivant. Or perhaps it was a Storyteller-aporoved take on that Archetype.

The subtle but important difference between the two is the Daredevil pushes themselves to the limits for the sake of reaching new limits, not "living in the moment because we're going to die tomorrow" as is the case of the Bon Vivant.

Right direction of thought, I think, though, that's like the more poisoned (thanks, auto-correct) positive version of what I pondered.
Terrific! If memory serves you haven't seen the '80s movie, Big Trouble in Little China? That's the kind of energy and atmosphere I want Other Strangeness to have! =)

Also comes with a range of daring hobbies to choose from... I'm feeling the license for motorbikes, for example.
There you go! Especially in hilky, wind-filled San Fran! Perhaps during late nights Alya and Kiseko try to see who can catch the most air on two wheels? =)

Think that leads me to a character that's more in line with your vision of the game - and one I'd enjoy more, too.
That's super!

I still wish Jay could join us because he knows the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe, and I love how he role-plays, but that's life for you sometimes. =)

For now, I'd consider thrill-seeker the closest thing to it, so I'll probably go with that one - unless I find a better fit at some point.

Pretty sure she'd be up for that!

I've got the book now, so I'll try to find my way through the skill selection over the next few days. The sheet will likely change a few times, but it's good to know that some parts were already well-received. =D

Of course, I am referring to future adventures - your characters prologues take place with the Savior in Shangri-La, the only home all of you have known since your rescue. =)

Kaerri Kaerri Still, I'd like to know if Kiseko would be up for something like that with Alya?

Also, for Kaerri, in past notes I stated W.P. Archery was a thing for Ninjitsu - except it doesn't exist in the Ninjas & Superspies book. So, in case I haven't already covered this, please replace W.P. Archery +1 with W.P. Bow +1 and W.P. Crossbow +1. =)

Didn't we have general rules how to translate MA's into the game (with chi etc)? You made remarks on several systems (thanks!), but the general thing might belong there, too. On a related note: Do you have the updated version of Alya's system at hand? You wrote it down at some point, I'm sure, so if not I'm happy to dig it up.

Silanon Silanon Yep! Posted 'em last night! Both of these are in Shop Talk (under "Skills - Martial Arts - Alterations to Martial Art Systems" and "Willpower, Willpower Points, and Archetypes"). =)

Notes: Willpower uses Mental Endurance, not Mental Affinity. =) Chi is not (yet?) in the game.

Alrighty, wasn't quite sure if there were any additional changes. If not, then I'm good to go there. Thanks!

I cleaned up the wording a little bit to make it a little more clear (also I just enjoy editing), but other than that no changes at all. =)

Noted.

Sorry for the short answers, I'm having a hard time with creativity today.

Short question: Being a bird replaces any kind of occ etc, right? Just making sure, since it's nowhere mentioned on your list of wisdom unless I missed it.

As a side note: Skills are tough - feels like there are quite a few things that don't fit Alya. Working on it, though!

Short question: Is anyone in the business of tinkering with vehicles? Was considering picking up the Vehicle Construction Program - don't want to step on anyone's toes, though. Think it might work well with her love for speed, and it's one of the areas that's not completely infested with computers and the like. I can't imagine her sitting in front of a screen for too long, y'know?

Yes! Don't choose an O.C.C. but instead choose whatever Skill Programs you'd like.

Understand that the Skill Programs are just packages of skills. Your character is not a soldier if you choose the Infantry package; it's just a collection of skills for you to do what you want with.

Keep in mind you can swap out any Modern Weapon Proficiencies your Skill Programs give you for Ancient Weapon Proficiencies.

I recommend looking at your other teammates' sheets to see what they have so you can either team up in a direction of education or specialize on your own.

Silanon Silanon Oh? I'm open to adding more related Skills to our game. I've already pulled a handful of skills from the Rifts Ultimate Edition since all of us own that.

I'm willing to pull more in if it helps your character become closer to who and what you want to play, and as long as it doesn't change the game's atmosphere. It all depends on what the skills in question are.

What precisely do you have in mind for her and how can I help?

I don't believe so! =) Kiseko is, without a doubt, your driver. I just looked over everyone's character sheets; I don't think anyone specifically has that Skill Program. =)

In fact, let me open that up to everybody. Kaerri Kaerri Psychie Psychie Sherwood Sherwood Are there skills in the Rifts Ultimate Edition that would help you better define your characters?

I believe that Haoyu is good the way he is. If there is any skills that would come in handy, none are coming to mind.

Hmmm. There are just soooo many skills out there to look at. Its hard to say just what I might need in the future.

You already mentioned that in the overview, and that's how I did it thus far - for example, I have the thief program on my sheet without much of a criminal background.

Mostly did that, just remembered that someone at some point considered something like that, I believe - wasn't sure if it was Kiseko or out weapon-building tiger.

Hard to tell. For Alya, I very much dislike all skills that include high levels of technology - I want her to be close to her natural origins, not in front of a screen. There are three programs I like for her: guerilla warfare for the wilderness survival plus some fighting, physical for her permanent training, thief for her anarchistic nature to be where she doesn't belong.

The fourth? I'd actually prefer to just put two skills for her motorcycle into the secondary skills, and pick something else that vehicle construction. And I'd like something that reflects her attempt to understand human society from the outside. She'll get the Marxism - etc skill for that, and I considered journalism, but she feels more like an artist than a writer, but should have some library skills without being a scientist. I'm not sure, still have to make up my mind. But I don't think I want much more fighting than what she already has,but rather branch out into another way to add more breath to her character.

I do have a question; if Haoyu does a little butt shimmy before he attacks someone, do I get a bonus to hit?
/silly on. Get ready!

That depends, Psychie! Psychie Psychie We are talking about San Francisco here!

Here is how this works!

If Hayou as a nice butt, he might be very distracting to certain opponents as they take a shine to that round thang, but...

...
if Haoyu's got nothing but "flab on the back of his cab," and his "booty can't do it it's duty," or if his butt "can't appease because it's made of cottage cheese," then his opponents might have to do a Horror Factor check!

If they fail, its "OH LAWD! HE COMIN'!"

Bad Guys: "Oh no! Haoyu's got dat very super-scary Halloween booty! Ruuun!"

Ha ha ha!

Oh good! On occasion, there are days that between here and My Private Workshop, I don't know what I've written. Hah!

Hard to tell. For Alya, I very much dislike all skills that include high levels of technology - I want her to be close to her natural origins, not in front of a screen.
Huh! Because I see building vehicles as being a true example of high technology.

Kaerri pointed out a while back - to my surprise - that Ninjas and Superspies doesn't have a Wilderness category. If I can add skills from Technical, I can definitely add skills to Wilderness from Rifts Ultimate Edition if you find that to your liking? I can't think of a better way for a wild-hearted or savage character to get closer to their natural origins.

Science skills like Anthropology and Archaeology may be of some use too.

I'd actually prefer to just put two skills for her motorcycle into the secondary skills,
Why two Skills for Pilot: motorcycle?

She'll get the Marxism - etc skill for that,
Hmm. Since you're the first person to show interest in that skill, I ought to point out that I was thinking about exchanging it for some skill that would cover more than one philosophical aspect. Kind of like how I replaced Go with Board Games.

That said, I don't have a lot of politics in my gaming, so I don't want you to choose skills like Marxism and the like and have them go to waste?

But I don't think I want much more fighting than what she already has,but rather branch out into another way to add more breath to her character.
I have never known you to make a shallow or quickly-thrown-together character before and Alya is turning out to be no exception! Your characters are always deep and interesting! Hooray!

I have to say, I told my mom all this and we both busted up with this. Damn funny!
