In the Dojo (O.O.C. Chat - Session Zero)

In related news, any Military Weapon Proficiencies your characters have may be exchanged for either Ancient W.P.s or Modern W.P.s. (don't want a W.P. in grenade launcher you might never use? You're welcome to select another in its place!).

I am causing poor Purr much thought with my questions tonight. Sorry/not sorry?

Work-in-progress Kiseko has been posted. ^33^ I think the numbers part is done? Just need to fill out more character info.

Good to know. I’ll have to have a look at Moyo to see if that will be a good choice for him.

I almost missed this post, which is the answer I was looking for. I can get my WP staff bonus increased and expect to be able to get access to a staff easier than an assault rifle or grenade launcher. Sweet. When I’m on lunch I’ll really look at him and do some number changes.

This helps Haoyu out a lot. I have a bunch of WPs, and I can drop several of them to get the bonus to a more desired skill and not have it go to waste. Thank you, guys!

You are welcome! The more I think about this solution, the more I like it. Sure, your characters are all 1st level (as low as it gets), but to have additional proficiencies in the Skills you like not only aids in your enjoyment of your characters, but I think it potentially helps flesh them out.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, each of their weapon selections says something about their personalities. Take for example, Raph. Raphael is their brawler; he loves fighting up close and personal, yet he gives thought to defense - so the Okinawan paired sai are ideal for his personality and his way of fighting. I think each of your choices will say something about your characters too!

It's a great option to have, definitely - the usual character sheets kinda read like characters should bring an entire arsenal to the campaign, this allows for some specialization. Haven't gotten around to put any thought into my bird lately, but I'll make use of this once I do. Plus, the post alone just made me check the current sheet just now, so that in itself is progress. Hopefully, I'll manage to finally get stuff done. Things are still busy and the end of January is going to be another big struggle - but after that, there's hope on the horizon.

Glad to hear it, Sil! Nothing gets in the way of a good game like Real Life, but nothing makes a good game richer either. Plus, I would much rather hear "I am very busy at what I do" as opposed to "I had to be let go because what I do does not generate enough business!" =)

Thanks for your enthusiasm for the idea and for Other Strangeness in general, friends!

Talked about that with my team leader around Christmas. Sure, there's too much work for us and it definitely shows in the main season. And sure, there's quite some frustration with the workload just now. But we all celebrated Christmas knowing that we've got safe jobs for years to come, while others sat there, knowing there'd be no job waiting for them in the new year. Gotta be thankful for that. And hey, everyone around me agrees that I'm working too much, but also that I'm doing much better than I did for a long while.

Yes! I am prone to doing the same. But then an old work buddy of mine pulled me aside and in his Southern way told me, "(Purr), fix yourself, then fix the problem!" He elaborated. "Sure you wanna get it done now, but the job will be that much better done when you take care of yourself first." I've also learned that the work in question might suffer if I am working too much. I am no good to my team in the long-term if my wear myself out first (especially my spirit).

So I focus on myself first and the work later. (I don't know quite why I'm typing all of this - it's just something good that I want to pass on to good people I know?) Stay warm and healthy!

It's way too easy to spend hours on a problem that'll be fixed within minutes the next day. Can't claim to always find the right moment to quit for the day myself, but that takes experience. Doing well despite the stress was kind of the goal of this first season, and thus far, it's a success. Now I just gotta get back to regular posts here on rpn again.

Too true! Yes! For this, I follow a quote from Walt Disney: "Why worry? If you've done the best you can, worrying won't make it any better."

Once I've done my very best, I purposely don't think about it anymore. I put it aside. Maybe I record my solutions - write them down. This takes practice.

When I am ready, there is my solution waiting for me. And I've spent the rest of my time wisely!

Can't claim to always find the right moment to quit for the day myself, but that takes experience.
Whatever happens, don't be hard on yourself. Real Life throws enough stuff at us for that. Instead I like to say, "love yourself, forgive yourself, and look forward to tomorrow." ( This too takes practice.)

Now I just gotta get back to regular posts here on rpn again.
Looking forward to it! But no pressure from me. Post when you can, good Sil!
