*The cheers from the crowd were overwhelming. The flashes from the photographers lit the room like lighting. The emotions and spirits were so high. The man on stage was king, and at such a young age. Senator Davis. The youngest running candidate for president had clenched the electoral and popular vote. A feat not easily reached by many, including the Republican party. Senator Davis, a outstanding man to run the country. A man who had fought two wars in his life. A veteran. A well rounded individual who would go down as the most loved president in history man had started to say with his policies.*
"President Davis! Please over here. A picture. " shouted a man as he fixed his lense.
"I'm not president yet sir. But soon enough. Thank you all!" The man smiled as he waved to his followers.
*The crowed roared once more. As the young man embraced his young wife in arm and his three year old son dubbed junior in his other.
An hour later the family started to make their way out of the hall they had been in. The crowd still going as the after party had just begun. Young Mrs. Davis took junior in her arms as he drifted to sleep. Senator Davis walking behind slowly.*
"Darling would you mind if meet you at home. I would like to take time to celebrate alone in my office. Might be one of the last before the white house"
*With little hesitation the young woman nodded. Her warm smile cooled as she turned away. Her hands gripping their boy. Senator Davis loosened his tie slightly. His face slowly relaxed as his brow tightened. He reached into his pocket and took out his phone. With a few taps he sent a message to a number. And frequently used number. The young Mr Davis was a troubled youth. A great home life brought boredom, idle hands are the Devils play ground. That time left with his child hood friends brought them to 'convince' their neighborhood baby sitter to share herself with them. Couple more times and threats of telling on them the boys 'helped' her out of down. Police never found her. In college Mr Davis was a ladies man, that is only for freshman. A new group of girls coming far away from home. Seven in total were said to have gone missing while he attended. And then there were the wars. Lieutenant Davis was given a group of men. They were all awarded medals for their bravery and honor. What honor was there for the lives they took on the battle field, the villages. His thirst only grew after seeing such carnage. With his position as the most powerful man in the world would make his reign a fierce one. *
"President Davis?" A voiced called out from the shadows of the hallway.
The senator smiled wearily as he turned to see a man by the doorway. "Senator. I'm not officially president until I'm sworn in"
The man smiled as he took a step closer but was paused by two of senators body guard, the other two turning to face him as well. Senator Davis held his hand up, the man from the shadows was well dresses in a fine suit, hair combed back and wearing a watch that looked very expensive.
"I'm sorry sir, are you a supporter. I will continue to need them when I do take office."
The man smiled again, he pushed past the guard and closer. He was handsome, young and fit. And when approaching tall. Six three. The senator felt a hint of intimidation. The man extended his hand.
"My name is Tobias Mathews"
The senator reached for the extended hand, trying to remember where he heard that name. Forbes. Mathews was the ceo of a large oil conglomerate. A business man, wealthy powerful and not on his side. Mathews would have been someone effected now that he would be going into office. The stopping of foreign commerce. A new face of the country.
" Hello Mr Mathews. Sorry I have to be going. Thank you for coming though."
The senator went to pull away but Mathews didn't let go, if anything his grip held stronger.
"I'm sorry sir, our business hasn't concluded. As eager as you are to go and have fun with your future victim I have something I have come here to collect."
*The senator went to pull again and looked at his men. They moved in to held but in a blink of an eye found themselves on the ground holding slits across their necks. The senator looked on at horror and delight until Mathews held up the extravagant dagger he used to kill the men. Gold and rubies, and the blade black. *
"What do you want?" He mumbled
"Senator. As much as I find myself in you I don't think you are going to be good for my ventures. I believe you met my brother. Pride. You sold your soul to him for this, I was there. Your soul for presidency. Things changing for your benefit. He is a very powerful being. See but unlike him I have more tied into the mortal world then he. So I am not breaking your contract but I am collecting early. You are president, you did it. Congratulations. But this will be the length of your term. Apologies sir. I guess you can just call me greedy. Enjoy the underworld. I'm sure there will be a war, welcome. "
*And that was how the youngest man to be president now became the president that never was. Mathews smiled to himself as he wiped his blade on the former senator. He then felt a buzz in his suit pocket, he reached for it and answered.*
"Hello? Yes. Just doing work related activities. You know me. I never clock out. I'll head to the airport. Make sure they have the jet fueled. I'll see you in a few hours. Bye."
He turned the phone off as he looked at the Crimson on the floor.
"Good bye"
