Fantasy Iluin: Continent of monsters

The sun was bright and beaming down on the ship that had been sailing across the vast ocean for nearly a month and things were starting to feel a little cramped. A few dozen Eruset soldiers along with every volunteer that signed up to come on this otherwise suicide mission, destination Iluin. The continent is known as a monster infested hell hole that has been mostly banned due to the fact it was exceptionally dangerous but no one would actually do anything about them. The boat was outfitted with a decent amount of everything they would need, from doctors to weapon makers and enough man power to bring all of Iluin to its knees. The crew kept themselves busy for the most part with acts of gambling, storytelling of their past glory days or just tests of strength all were acceptable ways to get to know one another, after all, sooner or later they will be cutting their teeth in the trenches with one another. The leader of the exploration force that would do most of the heavy lifting walked out onto the main deck of the ship with her arms folding getting a good look at that near endless horizon. Folding his arms he walked out onto the very tip of the ship taking in a good deep breath of that sea salt air.

“Captain how long till we reach Iluin?” Yusui called out his voice loud and booming

“Ay, Can’t be any more than a few more days’ sir!” The captain called back keeping the ship on course letting it run straight and true.

Soma walked out onto the deck with Yusui and stood next to him, the sound of the jewels banging together on her flag as it waved in the wind majestically, her long blond hair flowed along with it.

“Won’t be long, will it?” she asks, breathing a little faster her heart already pounding a feeling she hadn’t felt in a long time a genuine excitement of getting to go somewhere completely uncharted, unsettled and unknown.

“Calm down little one, we are in fact nearly there, but no need to get into a panic yet; if your stories are true, you’ve gone on many a journey yourself for one so young, ” The Eruset said his long tail making a sweep behind him.

It was true Soma was only fifteen, but she had explored all over Traylor and then some, in her quest to claim her weapon, the flag she held by her side at all times. Even still the wanderlust never left her, only dulled having traveled so far and wide but now Iluin a place she had only heard horror stories about from old sailors was within her grasp.

“Don’t mistake my anxiousness for fear, I am excited to make landfall already; I mean this is Iluin no need for a story book about this place it’s on the freaking map and still no one has ever come back with anything good about it, no charts made, graphs, nothing but stories” She said with a large smile puffing out her chest making the leader chuckle a little

“I’m also tired of being cooped up here, I understand not needing to bath being where we are but gods, I can’t take the stench anymore” She continued to complain, Soma was used to being on her own for the most part so she wasn’t used to sharing living quarters with people or least of all smelling them.

The water around the boat began to move about, more so than usual, but nothing that was particularly noticeable by the crew; it wasn’t until the boat is self-shook one good time that alerted everyone.

“The hell was that?!” Yusui shouted, looking back at the captain fighting the waves that hit the side of the ship keeping it steady

“Somethin’ big is under the ship!” The captain howled turning the wheel trying to passively ride the waves to prevent rocking and possible tipping.

The ship continued to shake more violently, causing the rest of the expeditionary force to run out to the main deck as well to see what was going on. The rocking was getting so intense that it threw people to the other side of the boat, Soma used her flag to keep herself planted to the floorboards of the ship.

“Land ho!” Screamed the crow’s nest as loud as he could pointing to Iluin in the distance.

“Impossib- “Yusui’s words were cut short when a large tentacle shot out of the ocean, wrapped around the mast of the ship and snapped it off like a twig. With tha, the ship was tipping drastically and there was nothing the captain could do at this point.

“All hands on deck!” Soma shouted, wanting to get everyone to the main deck to shield them. Something was rising from the ocean it looked like a lizard like creature with tendrils sprouting from its back, a mouth so large it could take the entire vessel in one bite.

“Oh gods,” Yusui said plainly reaching back for his hammer before he was stopped by Soma

“We need to get out of here or the entire voyage was pointless,” the young girl said to him “Everyone get to me!” She screamed as loud as she could.

This monster was a hideous abomination of nature, one could only imagen how this thing could exist in the world. Now wasn’t the time for studying it as it was preparing to crush the ship and kill everyone on it.

Beneath the decks of the mighty ship, inside a tucked away room filled with jars, lay Cehrael. The knees of her legs tucked beneath her and wrapped in silk. The majority of the room was wrapped in it for that matter. The jars were stuck to their shelves with her web and the only parts of the room free of it was a desk littered in paper and a bunk made with a straw pillow and fur blankets. The gentle rocking of the ship was comforting and as warm rays slipped through a crack in the planks of the upper deck, it warmed her hair and eased her awake.
She opens one eye and looks around the room. The candle at the desk was out but there was a fair amount of light. Her lips turn to a smile and she scans around for the botanist. She doesn't see him on his bed and goes to move but is brought to a sudden halt when she feels a tugging on her web. Her eyes flick wide open and dart to the location of the tugging. She exhales through her nose and recognises the sleeping botanist. It wasn't rare that he'd cuddle up beneath her for the warmth or lay against her web for the support. He'd rolled out of bed a number of times before.
She reaches out a hand to the sleeping man and brushes his hair. She thought of all the nights he'd spent writing and documenting the types of seaweed and other aquatic plants. She begins to wriggle her legs and gracefully slips free of her resting place. As she sets her feet on the floorboards she shudders all over from the chill. The flooring was colder than expected. She takes a moment to get used to the temperature before turning back to the botanist. She slips her fingers in behind him and spins her fingers to coil the web away from him. Once done, she strings it to the roof of the cabin and collects him to place in bed. He grumbles slightly but doesn't appear to stir from his sleep. She smiles once more at him and makes a quiet exit.

All of her effort was for very little however as once she left the cabin the ship was alive with the sounds of restless men and women. She cranes her neck side to side and lets out a soft groan. She walks through the first deck of bunks to the exit with a number of the sailors sending dirty glances her way as they played dice and such. Few liked her company and it was for an understandable reason, she was half spider. She'd seen the way some of these sailors behaved around spiders caught lurking in the lower decks. She didn't care much for the spiders or the sailors. They all served a purpose and hers was to protect the botanist at all costs.
She reaches the exit and begins her ascent to the upper deck. It was always a squeeze and the ship seemed to be rocking a little harder than it had before. It made it challenging to get up but such was life. Her feet make it to the main deck and she surveys the area to see what everyone was doing. It seemed a fairly ordinary day. The air was salty but fresh and the people were keeping themselves entertained.

"Land ho!" Her eyes light up. She's no fan of the seas and the idea of setting foot on solid ground was one that had driven her to remain calm this whole voyage. Before she can celebrate however a large tentacle erupts from the waters beside her and clasps the ship's mast, snapping it and discarding the remnants in one sweeping motion. She narrows her gaze on the now broken mast. This was the end. They'd sailed all the way here only to die in this goddess forsaken blue pit of despair. She hears the little girl with the flag screaming at the top of her lungs and searches for the banner. She locates it and makes a mad dash towards the stairs.
Before needing to use them again, the botanist arrives with a handful of jars in his arms and papers sticking out of his backpack. He looks up at her with a glint of excitement in his eyes. She was dumbstruck yet again by his reckless behaviour and disregard for personal safety over knowledge. "Cehrael! Look at it! Aw my god it's beautiful!" He yells at the top of lungs clearly caught in the moment. The botanist doesn't seem to mind the tipping of the ship and stares at the large beast memorising every detail present about it. The tipping wouldn't bother Cehrael either if not for the salt spray on the boards which prevented her from getting a proper grip. Her feet keep slipping but move fast enough to make it appear as though she was balanced. "Botanist, we must go."
"I've told you before, Cehrael. It's Friedrich. How does something like that even survive out at sea? What does it eat? There must be others as massive as itself."

She takes the botanist by the hand and leads him over to the banner. She wasn't risking the botanist's life. As they approach the bejewelled banner, a sailor topples over in front of them and slips off the edge of the boat into the blue abyss. "How did you know to gather your things?"
"I'm a botanist. I do this for a living, though usually with plants. When I fell out of bed and heard shouting I realised something was very wrong, my dear." He rushes his words and continuously looks over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't missing another one of them breaching the water.

Connor was minding his own business in the cargo hold during the events that lead up to the monstrosity appearing from the water. Why was he down there? To keep an eye on his tools, of course. His father had made sure to drill it into him that his tools were important and were to be cared for daily. For his hammers and anvil that meant making sure there were no cracks that could cause it to shatter on the next swing. For the portable forge, he had to do a bit more. He had to make sure the flume was clear, the pit was cleaned out, wheels could still turn so it could be a 'portable' forge, etc. But given how he hadn't used anything since the voyage had begun, it was all in fairly decent shape.

As he took his head out of the flume, a hammer fell off of the the rack on the side of the forge. Odd, but nothing to alarming. So he picked it up and put it back in it's place. As he turned around to leave, he heard a heavy thud behind him. When he turned around to see what had made that noise, he saw that it was the same hammer. "Cursed waves," he mumbled, explaining away the strangeness of it all as he once more set the hammer back in it's place. He stood there for a short while, making sure that no more hammers decided to fall off. Once no more fell off, he nodded in approval and made to leave. That was when the whole ship lurched to one side, nearly knocking him off his feet.

After that he rushed up to the deck, and saw the monstrosity that had decided to reveal itself. "By the gods!" he exclaimed as he stood there slack jawed, staring at their assailant. This was it, they were going to die here. He hoped his parents would find out that their son had died. He didn't want them to find out how he died, that would only make it worse for them, at least he thought that'd make it worse.

But as he stood there, he heard a voice filled with authority and calling everyone to rally around it. His body acted while his mind accepted death, one deciding it would at least like the chance of survival. And before he knew it, he found himself in front of a girl holding a large banner, he had seen her plenty of times on this small ship, that spider and her botanist (though he expected it was supposed to be the other way around), and the large Eruset next to him. He didn't know what they had planned, but he couldn't help but hope it worked.

Sam sat with her legs up on the table in front of her, her hat resting in front of her eyes. Last night was a long one for her. She drank far too much and ended up standing on this very table shouting out a tale of the time the Monarch held off 3 naval frigates at once. Her head was pounding and she wanted nothing more than to sit where she was and fall asleep for a few hours.

She couldn't rest however, her mind wouldn't allow it. She was too excited for another taste of adventure. She knew that she would have to prove herself to many of her new compatriots. Even after all the stories shes told of her exciting past she could tell there were still those who would need to see her in action. She would happily oblige once the killing started.

Looking around she saw many fantastic looking weapons. Giant swords that glowed with magic, hammers with heads as large as her torso, and staves that Sam knew held mysterious magics. She even saw a girl younger than her who carried a flag as a weapon. Her weaponry seemed to pale in comparison to the gear the crew carried, but she knew that the weapons were only as good as their wielder. She rested her hand on the hilt of her blade, something she did when she wanted to feel closer to her father.

She started to drift off and just as she closed her eyes the ship hit rough waters.

"Ughh there goes that." She swung her feet off the table as she sighed. Sam figured she might as well go topside to see how close they were to their destination. It couldn't be much longer. As she walked up the steps to the upper deck the ship lurched to the side. She knew that had to have been caused by more than rough waters.

Going into a survival mode she made it topside and looked around. A giant tentacle to which she could only liken a Kraken stood tall out of the water and the ship's mast had been destroyed. She knew they couldn't handle this creature and still save the ship. The only thing to do would be to dive into the water and hope they were close enough to swim to land. Just before she took the leap she saw the girl and her flag. People were rushing to her side so she figured there must be some sort of plan.

Hopping down from the side of the ship she broke into a full sprint towards the group surrounding the girl.

Soma kept shouting till her voice went horse, that’s where Yusui took over for her his loud booming voice commanded the entire ship, when he said something you were going to listen. The biggest mouth he’d ever seen stretching out wide and bellowed as if to challenge Yusui, the ocean itself seemed to give into it as the wave started to form crashing into the ship rocking it violently. Cehrael the spider woman and her botanist were the first of the expeditionary force to arrive by Soma and Yusui, but they were far behind a lot of the actual crew and other members. They trickled in quickly like the tides that were crashing into their boat the violent rocking flung others off the boat entirely, hopefully, they could survive by just swimming to shore. Tentacles were wrapping around sections of the ship obviously thinking it was a living creature with a platoon of smaller morsels riding it, with it distracted the way it was survival became something more based in reality instead of a concept. However, wood and metal aren't very meaty or tasty, to begin with, so it monster turned its attention to those running around along the ship. Piling in one after another as pieces of the ship was torn asunder wooden planks and glass windows were ripped apart with the force of a thousand armies. Soma looked around making sure people were getting to them fast enough, but in the middle of her head count Yusui forced her attention up, it was going to drive its mouth right into them.

“How do we fight such a monster?” Yusui questioned readying his hammer looking up at the gaping jaws of death that would soon be running head first into them.

“You don’t fight it!” She screamed clapping her hands together, then spreading them out with her palms open, causing a massive bubble to form around everyone “You survive it”

Now the monster's mouth was impressive, to say the least, but the bubble was too big for it to swallow whole so they became lodged in its jaw between the sharp teeth. They were trapped between its gaping mouth and Soma could feel the force from all angles and tried to hold on, it went into the water and swam down as deep as it could; screaming and panic was all that could be heard as the bubble shield was hit against what felt like the very bottom of the ocean.

“Hang on everyone!” Yusui yelled, trying to get his bearing looking down this beast’s throat that stretched on into oblivion. “Can you do it Soma?!” he turned back, all their lives were in her hands and the strength of this shield.

It continued to bash its head into various rocks causing poor Soma immense pain she screamed in agony keeping her eyes shut tight to concentrate putting her entire being into keeping the bubble from popping, but the pain was unbearable, usually she couldn’t feel the pain of the shield unless it was broken the continent was already doing strange things with her magic. The Leviathan curved itself upward and rushed to the water’s surface, twisted itself around and forcefully dislodged the bubble barrier from its mouth, sending the entire crew flying towards the land. Like a meteorite striking the planet’s surface, they crashed into the beach with a massive thud instantly popping the shield causing Soma to pass out instantly.

As the whole world around her grew dark inside the beasts mouth Sam felt a strange stillness in her. She knew she should be freaking out but deep inside she felt ready for whatever was to come. The beast thrashed them around and she held her tongue instead of joining the chorus of screams surrounding her.

She marveled at the young girl's tremendous power and felt pity for her when she noticed how much pain she was in. In an instant they were thrown towards land and Sam knew a rough landing was sure to come. She grasped her hat tightly and braced for the impact.

Once on the beach she could breathe easy again. She knew there were bound to have been a ton of casualties from the beast but she took this time to not think about that. She placed her hat on the top of her head and laid back in the sand.

'That was only the first monster we saw here..." she thought to herself. If there were worse things than that on this continent then they were in for a rough adventure.

She noticed a flask had landed not far from her so she reached for it and was relieved to find that it still had some of its contents.

She and the botanist stand at the far end of the crowd. They didn't bother pushing in because they were both aware that getting closer to the young girl wasn't going to make them any safer. Instead the botanist lowers himself to the deck and takes out a ball of parchment and a strange wooden tube filled with charcoal. He begins to sketch out the shape of the beast in hopes that his death and research would not be a waste. Cehrael showed little reluctance to his actions as there was no more she could do to save him. As she slowly came to the acceptance of death among the shouting, a new voice took the reigns. It was deep and it helped pull her from her acceptance of death.

A large sphere engulfs the ship, protecting them from the ravenous leviathan. For a fleeting moment she thought they were saved. Until the screaming started. The hectic shouting of trying to organise this chaos, the jaws of the beast closing around the bubble, the downward dragging of the ship to the ocean floor. It was the end. Surely there was nothing else that could be done. The pressure of the water once that bubble burst would kill them all before the monster even could. The monster shakes its head around and throws many members of the crew off their feet. She lowers her body to the deck to reduce her lack of footing but it didn't change much against the thrashing.
It turns itself upward and heads to breach the surface. Perhaps it was better this way. She couldn't fail the botanist if they both died together. She lowers herself even more to be closer to him, gently wrapping her arms around him in a protective and comforting embrace. She smiles and places her forehead to his scalp, all the while he's stuffing the sketches and hunting behaviour into his pack and placing a magic seal to protect it from water damage.

Then the amazing happens. Once they breach the surface the beast releases them. They weren't doomed to die by the beast's hand or fins to be more precise. They're thrown towards the coast and as they fall with the twisting direction of the ship, she slides to the edge of the ship's main deck. She feels the cold wet wood of the banister railing against her temple and the world stops. Black. Nothing.
Well almost nothing. A searing ache from everywhere. The more she focuses on feeling the pain the more she can feel around her. The longer she focuses on the new things around her the more she can identify. Lapping waves, shuffling sand, an incredible headache, warm liquid running down her forehead, gritty heat upon her skin. She goes to smile and her eyes gently pry themselves open. She had hoped she was dead but instead found herself in a heap by the ship wreck. Her smile fades as she tries to find something around her that she could train her efforts on.

She sees a number of corpses along the sand with her. Not everyone was lucky enough to avoid death this day. Other survivors wander in the distance trying to gather what they can or mourn the deaths of their comrades who had died on impact with the beach. She frowns, feeling their pain. She raises her right arm and pushes against the sand to lift herself up. She goes to follow it with her left arm but there's no response. Her left arm simply hangs there, out of its socket. She grits her teeth and awkwardly positions herself to fix her own arm. She presses down on her left arm and tries her hardest not to scream, slipping and falling back into the sand. A few tears escape and join her among the sands of the beach. She pats the ground behind her looking for the botanist but finds only his bag. Worry fills her and the concept of failing someone she was devoted to again begins to destroy her already fragile heart. Rather than crying she just lays, bleeding from her large forehead wound and looking blankly inland. She was waiting. Waiting for someone to find the botanist and bring him to her or to help her find him.

Well, this was it, he was going to die. He was going to be eaten by this massive thing, and nobody was going to be able to tell his parents that he was even dead because it looked like they were all going to die here with him. He closed his eyes and waited for the inevitable, hoping that it would be painless. But when the screams of terror didn't suddenly go quite, he snuck a peak. He should have kept his eyes shut, for the sight that he saw would no doubt haunt his nightmares. A bottomless void lined with razor sharp teeth trying it's hardest to consume them all.

He stood frozen in terror as it forced itself on top of the ship and down into the ocean. He didn't even realize that they were in the ocean until they were violently spat out and he was sent flying through the air like everyone else. He screamed on the way down, he remembered, but shortly after he started the world went black.

He wasn't sure for how long he was unconscious, it mustn't have been for long, because people were still picking over the wreck looking for people and things of use. He laid there for what felt like hours, though it was actually more like seconds or minutes, before he had the strength to get to his hands and knees. The world swam as he slowly got up, so he held tightly to whatever he could, which happened to be a piece of the ship that had nearly crushed him.

Once his legs were steady and the world wasn't swaying, he began to move. He didn't know where he was going to go or what he was going to do once he got there, but he'd find out eventually. As he stumbled across the beach, over rocks, debris, and who knows what else, he found something that was alive. It was the arachnid woman, and she looked as lost as he felt. There was also a nasty gash across her forehead that was still bleeding. "Hey. Hey!" he said, though it took him a couple tries to actually shout it.

Sand, dirt, and pieces of driftwood were flung randomly at the beach as the monster continued to decimate the ship roaring out as loud as it could at the dry-docked prey but eventually it counted its losses and left. Groans and complaints could be heard as a collective response from the entire crew, though Soma couldn’t save everyone she got a little more than half of the entire ship to safety as well as the entire expedition force. Yusui picked up the unconscious ship first mate and put her on his back as well as carried all her equipment, she deserved this break; which was sad to say they just got to Iluin, the surviving Eruset stood up one by one and looked out at the vast sea, they just crossed this expedition may have turned into a permeate stay until they can build another ship which could take years if they survived being here the first day. Beyond the beach the sand slowly gave way to a grassy plain before stretching into a vast forest where the sounds of life were apparent as well as the sound of constant killing. Because the bubble itself popped on impact many people were flung all over the beach, some people were in shallow water while the ones who swam to shore walked in fewer numbers having run into more of the marine life. Shipmates spread out digging their crew members out of the wreckage, morning those already confirmed dead some damming their luck to have stayed alive unlike the ones who have passed on and don’t have to suffer what’s the come. The ship’s captain was no where to be found along with a handful of other sailors soon to be presumed dead; walking to the edge of the beach just before it became a grassland Yusui called to everyone.

“Alright everyone, we all knew this wasn’t going to be a pleasure cruise, bring it in and let’s have a head count, I already have Soma here, whose left?!” Yusui shouted the thump of his voice putting a little lift in everyone’s souls, it was his job to keep things moving and people productively active. The surviving crew started to fall in line, picking themselves up out of the sand and water to walk forward panting heavily from the whole ordeal.

Instructions were given for those able to stand to take those who couldn’t but were still of this world to see one of the surviving doctors which were only five remained. The doctors started to tend to the injured, seeing Soma first concluding the pain caused her to pass out and she should be back up in a little bit. Others weren’t so lucky some died shortly after being examined adding more to the pile who were already rotting away on the blood-soaked beach.

“I want everyone geared up and ready to move out in ten minutes,” Yusui said dismissing everyone.

The sky was a bright blue without a single cloud in the sky, causing the burning sun to beam down on this unobstructed, the Eruset wouldn’t mind, but it was going to be a very hot day and the sea water wasn’t going to help that fact. Yusui looked to the forest trying to plan where they would head next being that they were in uncharted territory and the boat being their only safe zone was in pieces. To top it all off there was this uneasy feeling of being watched constantly, he supposed he’d have to get used to that if the stories about this place were true, there was always something watching you, stalking in an attempt to make you its next meal. Another thing to not was that the sun was cooking the dead causing it the stink severely; at first, he wanted to prepare a burial for every intact body but now it seemed like burning them would probably be better.

With all the commotion going on no one noticed the sand shifting around until an entire sink hole opened to the side and was called attention too but it was far too late for that. The stench of the dead attracted something, whatever it was, it clawed at the surface of the sand and erupted out when enough of a hole was made blasting beach and pieces of the ship in all directions. Stalking out from the cloud of dust it kicked up a bipedal behemoth of a creature walked its way forward, it looked feline in nature except instead of fur its skin was armor plated, a mouth that stretched forward as if it belonged to a lizard and a long whip-like tale with a massive spiked ball on the tip. It didn’t look as if it had any sockets for eyes so a fair assumption would be to just assume it was blind and surfaced when it felt it was near prey. An order to run was given until Yusui noticed the Botanist hanging off its hide.

Sam tossed the now empty flask back onto the beach and tipped her hat in front of her eyes to block the sun. She tried not to let the crying and moaning around her kill the little moment of relaxation she'd been able to conjure up. However her moment was squashed by the sound of Yusui's booming voice. She immediately hopped to her feet and checked her gear.

Good thing I travel light.

All of her weapons were still there and her guns didn't seem wet. She knew the leather holsters were a good investment.

She hurried over to the growing group around Yusui and waited with the others from the crew. She looked around and realized she must have the devil's luck because she had escaped relatively unscathed while others in the crew were in much worse shape than her. A few bruises were nothing to complain about when people were missing limbs. She was just glad that the ordeal with the beast in the water was over and that they had some time to catch their breath. At least she thought they had time until a monstrous creature smashed its way through the wreckage onto the beach.

"You've GOT to be kidding me!"

She quickly surveyed the charging monster, looking for a weak-spot with no luck. It seemed to have an armored hide and not even eye-holes for a bullet or arrow to pierce. She wondered briefly whether it was following it's sense of smell or hearing, but figured now wasn't the time for questions like that. She did notice something odd about the creature however. It seemed to have a human attached to it. Were they dead? Was it even worth sticking around to find out?

She thought about cutting and running into the nearby woods but figured she would probably be safer with Yusui and the girl who was able to stop the literal ship destroying sea creature.

Her eyes flick up at the approaching blacksmith and then return to the far off forests. A small collection of tears sliding away once more as she tried to remember the words relating to her injury. Strangely enough she'd never learned terms such as 'dislocated' or even how to explain what had happened to her shoulder. In her tongue everyone knew what it was and it was called a free-shoulder. She moves her hand over to her shoulder and gently rubs it to show the blacksmith where the crippling damage had been dealt. She was clearly in great pain as she was also pressing down on it with her body weight. She remembers some of the basics that the botanist had taught her for intense pain and murmurs to the blacksmith, "Fix arm."She rolls herself over onto her stomach and awaits the blacksmith's aid.

The shoulder had a clear indent in the top which made it obvious she'd dislocated her arm. She turns her face to the side and continues to stare inland. Right as she braces herself for the blacksmith's touch, she hears people shouting and spots a kick up of sand. The beast begins to charge the survivors. Shards of wood and iron straps fling through the air and the beast responsible appears too hungry to notice. She wasn't concerned at all by its presence as it meant she'd likely be free of this shame soon enough. She focuses closer on the beast and recognises a familiar face though. His physique, his behaviour, that was her botanist. No one touches her botanist. She digs her working hand into the ground and a surge of adrenaline hits her. "Fix my arm. Now." The pain was gone and the only thing she could feel was a deep burning rage. The corpses around her no longer filled her with sorrow but inspired her to keep him alive. As she lay there waiting to be made whole once more, she assesses the feline as best she could.

"Okay. Okay." He felt like he was his own echo, but all he could think of saying was 'okay'. As much as it would have frustrated him at any other time, he didn't really care right now. Right now he had to 'fix arm', whatever that meant. Something was clearly wrong with it, yeah, but he didn't know what that was. Then he remembered seeing a man with his family, one of those traveling folk that wandered the world searching for their mysterious Oracle, do something with his son's arm. And the son's arm looked like her's right now. Feeling like he knew enough to 'fix arm', he grabs her arm just above the elbow, puts his other hand on her shoulder, not on the dent of course.

"One..." and with that he yanked his arm upwards, the shoulder resetting with a loud pop. Just in time to, because though he hadn't noticed it, a large creature had erupted form the sands and was going on what appeared to be a rampage. Looking up from his handiwork, he does notice it, and his face blanched, losing all it's color in a matter of seconds.

He did the only thing he could think of doing, and that was to run towards somewhere that was safe. Such as by the large Eruset that had an equally large hammer.

She feels her shoulder click back into place. The pain, even in her adrenaline fuelled state, made her cry out. With her right arm she beats the sand beneath her until the feeling passed. It felt like an eternity but it lasted mere seconds. She hears the shuffling of the blacksmith's feet in the sand as he makes his way to safety. She brings herself to her feet, moving her left arm around. It hurt but she could live with that. Her botanist was in trouble. Turning her back to the oncoming danger she begins to search through his pack for her Cestus. The beast grows closer, attacking other survivors of the crash with raw fury and a primal hunger.

She was in luck, her Cestus had been packed. She pulls them from the pack and begins to slip them on over her hands. She'd worn them often enough to know how they should be properly put on. She looks over her shoulder at the large feline and identifies what she can about it. It was large and armour plated. This means it was heavy. It wouldn't be used to running in the sand or water. It lacked eyes which means it's blind, relying on smell and hearing. Her web was incredibly adhesive and she was quick to put the two together. If she could get close enough to block its nostrils or ear holes it would struggle to hunt any prey at all.

With a harsh rubbing of leather on metal, she tightens her Cestus around her hands and wrists. She reaches for beacon and begins to coat it in silk. Once the weapon was sufficiently coated she makes a charge. She knew charging the beast by herself was suicidal but she couldn't afford to explain her strategy to her fellow survivors. If this worked it'd be a miracle and if it failed it'd ruin her only plan on slaying the beast.

She starts shouting at the large feline, drawing its attention away from the group and focusing in on her. "Please fall for this trick! I am asking you kindly!" The beast brings it long snout over to her to identify her. She yells as she swings her sword for its nostrils, rubbing most of her silk off into its right nostril. Some is caught in the left but caught in the heat of the moment she fails to note the large tail flying around to strike her down. By the time she notices the large spiked weapon she couldn't avoid it. Instead she rams beacon deep into the feline's snout and braces for impact.

A violent howl fills the air as beacon rips through its snout. One nostril full of blood, the other full of silk finding itself sticking tighter to the walls the more rapid its breathing grew. The tail slams into the ground beside her and drags along the ground, knocking her over but failing to finish her. She scrambles to her feet and flees from the feline's front. She trails along the side to grab her botanist and bring him along with her. Once she gets her botanist, she'd run like there was no tomorrow. Beacon didn't matter to her if she could get the botanist. Her hands reach up for him. "Let go. I will catch you. I promise it."

The creature bucked back on its hind legs roaring out in pain flailing around randomly until finally, it slammed the front half down causing a smokescreen affect with the sand. Rearing back, it began to thrash around clawing and where it thought the food was, all while making quite the racket, a fairly inexperienced hunter. Its violent temperament flung the botanist around randomly though he was still attached to the creatures hide, finally it lunged forward at the group, crushing many people in the middle section before turning around and starting to attack randomly at just about anything it could feel, blood flying from the nostrils like a fountain. Its tail flung around, whipping and crashing into the sandy terrain, by this time plenty of people were running toward and past Yusui who continued to rally people to get away from the monster, however, not everyone was so lucky making the pile of dead bodied that was washed up and pungent much more noticeable. Gritting his teeth Yusui asked someone fleeing who looked capable to carry Soma and her luggage, taking up his hammer in both hands, he rushed towards the creature to aid in getting as many people out alive as possible.

The feline’s spiked tail swung downward at members of the expeditionary force, including the blacksmith, death was coming in the form of an animal that wasn’t even aiming for them. In a flash of light, Yusui appeared in the line of fire with his hammer mid swing, knocking the tail right back at the creature causing the collision to crack open its armor. The recoil of the animal caused the botanist to fly free hitting the ground to which Yusui picked him up with ease and flung the man far off away from the danger.

“Get to the forest now!” He howled taking his hammer back into his hand getting ready to defend everyone with his life if needed.

The cat reeled back blood gushing from its sides from being stuck with its own weapon, trying to force it to dislodge in order strike again, Yusui took this as a golden opportunity to get everyone to safety. Spurring the remaining living crew members into action using his tail to whip those who were sitting on their bums to their feet and find the will to live or at least get them to believe in a tomorrow. Once everyone got a good distance away Yusui started to trail the group guarding the rear for another tail attack and hoping it doesn’t make another attempt to lunge forward; but this was Iluin and the worst would always come to pass, unlike a normal animal who would have given up once hurt enough these creatures appeared to be much more tenacious. Rearing back once again, it prepared to jump and it in fact did get a good leap off the ground before suddenly something landed on its back causing it to slam back to earth.

Everyone just looked in awe as the dust settled and the creature that was tormenting them for the past few minutes had become an afterthought, it lay there in the dirt and sand crushed under the weight of something far worse. All that thrashing, howling and the scent of dead bodies lured a real predator in the form of a bird. The sheer size of this colossus could overshadow even the grandest of castles with a wingspan to enslave the skies themselves; its body was covered in armored not unlike the feline, decorating its crown, wingtips, tail and chest plate must have more than tripled its normal weight. Talons piercing the armor of its prey like a hot knife through butter as if they were made to surgically slice through it with ease, even with the behemoth of a monster on top the sand monster would not let up, now struggling to get free so it could have the opportunity to run away. As quick as a flash of lightning with the strength of a clap of thunder the bird’s beak was brought down, smashing open the head plate ending the struggle in one fell swoop.

“Keep running everyone, we need to get somewhere safe to regroup!” Yusui shouted out snapping everyone out of the tense of what a real predator looked like. The bird didn’t care about the expedition force, it had a meal for the next few days and this monster looked confident enough to eat right here in the open as if it owned the beach itself.

(My intro post, making sure so y'all know i am here! seeing that the rest has passed i wrote what happen to him before hand, hoe that is ok!)

"A Titan of the sea, emerged from the sand with its bellowing terror, clad in steel and flaying the flesh of those who stand near. Survival to such a creature was impossible yet we defied the nature of these lands and lived to breath the last minutes of despair. I was scared, never thought my first sighting of a monster would be a degenerate abomination of many, feline most in nature. Danger was at hand yet every brave soul would be remembered, Man of strength saving the ones in near danger in a short clash. As i though this creature was worse....nature in these parts prove me wrong, a shadow of the sky, casting fear in those under it and preventing the light of the heavens to shine the path...These lands are the foot prints of the underworld and I with those who survived, walk and live...well now its running honestly. ok ok focus and stop thinking!"

Bald's mine said to itself thinking of what has to be placed in the book he holds waiting to be filled and it seems, his first impression is the one to take the first 2 pages. Bald before the boat was torn to shavings, was busy on the boat sitting on its first deck writing on his journal about his imminent adventure begging soon, but of course he was cut short because some THING decided to knock on the door without permission. Landing on shore he was injured under splint planks but still able to move yet rather glued with pain and when that giant cat monstrosity piped up, being attacked by some of the group and taking it a hold. His magic was rather odd working now, he tried to use it but he shocked himself instead of casting, the land was said to give odd effects to those who used magic and right now, he knew how, with the rest he ran and ran as fast as he could, with staff in hand and the book in waist all he could do is run...till the giant crow? eagle? love bird? kiwi?...GIANT FLYING BIRD! drop and ,what he assume by the sound of metal being torn and flesh ripped , was being eaten by the bird and the bird was just enjoying a tasty exotic dinner before its dessert.

But that was just a few minutes ago, what is he doing now? oh yes!
"Oh believe me i am running! I am not kissing that toucan!"
Toucan? has he even looked back yet? it really docent seem like it and sure as hell not now, he was running as fast he could, following the rest with Yusui. As he ran he took a quick glance over his shoulder and saw the giant avian creature decorated in gold and NOT a Toucan, he turn slightly and began to run backward for a short time admiring the creature grabbing every detail he could see before he was yelled at for doing so. He gave a short whistle at the beautifully decorated genocidal monster.
"Oh by the name of the great Divine that is one beautiful Puffin"
Puffin? ok yea he is A: Blind or B: so scared that he can focus well and seeing guts and gore, surely its B. As he turn to face forward he slipped and fell on his knee shortly and stood as fast as his soul could handle and began to run and run with adrenaline pumping him alive. Looking behind and the sides at the ones alive and still breathing as he asked.
"Ok and WHERE are we regrouping? by the fact we got pounced on by a giant cat with a mace tail and a titan of a penguin in just a few minutes i don't THINK there is anywhere safe here beside a coffin! but alright, hope that bird docent see us as its night stand candy tray!"
Bald announce as he ran sometimes looking over his shoulder keeping a eye on the bird, using his staff to push foliage and anything in his way hoping it docent turn on them and makes everything oh so much worse, The spider lady, the blacksmith, right now everyone had there mission to make it out alive, they had to find somewhere to hide, anywhere! small cavern, it dint matter they had to get away from the clear open areas. Bald looked around for any sort of safety, something that could be considers "Safe" to be in, he looked back again at the bird and the sight of its...meal...made him want to throw up all the contents he has eaten recently right now. They are all lucky for the bird being distracted with the food it had and a good one so might best to run.
In his fleeing attempt his staff got caught on one of the branches, instead of getting stuck the branch snap but instead of being a good thing, the thundering glass bottle with a lightning bolt fell off. He gasped and began to repeat the word "No" over and over as he ran back and grabbed the bottle and turn to continue running, now being one of the last in the group as he went to rescue his jar. For some it was just...a jar...for him it was a relic and a very special gift.

Sam followed her superior into the woods after a moment left for remarking the terrible wound the cat's tail caused its own body. It seemed like an evolutionary flaw to be so protected yet vulnerable to one's own self.
The creature standing back up was a definite signal for her to leave the beach. She figured looking back would only slow her down so she charged forward, never turning back. Even when the sound of a large creature slamming into the ground behind her blasted her eardrums, she did not stop.
She may have come on this mission knowing she would most likely die, but this was not how she was going to go out! She thought of her father and how he would always tell her to pick her battles and never go into a fight you dont already know you'll win. Well she knew that this would not end in victory.

The botanist, letting go from the hide of the beast as it slams against the ground, hits the ground. The scaled man tosses him away and like that she swoops in to pick him up from the ground. Before hearing anyone's voice or anything about the group the two fade into thin air. With a whisper in the wind they vanish from sight. However her magic didn't work as it used to. It wasn't as internalised as it used to be. She was used to casting in a thin magic atmosphere where as this area, the air ripe with magic, amplified her spell. It made both of them seemingly invisible yes but as they past by people they too vanished momentarily flickering back into sight once she'd past by. It was strange but she had no time to consider the amazing effects of this environment. "To my pack?"
"As always, botanist. Your research and then we run."
"Good girl." She smiles at the compliment. It made her feel warm inside. If not for the cast of invisibility present a bright red blush would be seen across her cheeks. The two run through the sand to the pack where she feels the botanist let go. She groans as he hits the sand and then the magic of her cast overwhelms her. She could feel it coursing through her veins. It was a burning inside her blood and combining that with the now reaching shoulder she shudders in pain. Her spell flickers away with a very audible growl. As she's growling she notices a gust of wind. She looks over her shoulder and scowls at the bird. They had to move. The botanist picks his pack up looking to Cehrael and frowns. "You're hurt, we have to go."
"Mount me."
"Why how very upfront of you. I didn't realise you saw me in that light." The botanist offers a jesting smirk as he brought himself up onto her thorax. Unfortunately Cehrael didn't understand his joke and interpreted it quite literally. "You may mount me as you please, botanist." He laughs brushing her shoulder looking over at the enormous bird. "A joke lost to you, my dear. Quickly now."

The two sprint as fast as they can to the treeline passing by a number of slower group members. One such member was a librarian of sorts. At least he appeared that way to Cehrael. He was rambling to himself which caused her slight distress. If her light magic usage burnt her veins she could only imagine what it was doing to his mind. He was mentioning birds she'd never heard of before and making analogies that were otherworldly. 'Penguin', 'candy tray', he was clearly panicked and too fried with the magic of the lands to make sense. She contemplates offering him help but realises quickly that if he jumped on as well she'd struggle beneath their combined weight so decides to go against it.
They begin to slow down from their sprint but Cehrael makes sure to keep visuals on the dragoon. The blacksmith was long gone from her field of view and they'd past by the librarian already. The dragoon was selfish, at least she came across that way. She wouldn't risk her own life so to follow her would lead them to safety.
"Botanist, I lost beacon."
"Problematic indeed. We'll return later, Cehrael. If you're not well I can do so alone to recover it bu-"
"No. Leave it. Beacon for you, that was the deal."
"Very well. We'll keep a look out for something new. Perhaps the blacksmiths can help."

Finally, it seemed that something on Iluin wasn’t trying to kill them, likely because none of them registered as a threat to the bird nor did they look good enough to chase and eat; especially given its recent kill of the sand beast. Taking a few steps back just to give the creature some space Yusui folded up his hammer, turned around and headed for the forest with the rest of the group. Patting the back of one of the other Eruset who were lacking behind spurring them to catch up with the group, with his loud voice he began to herd the crew into a single-entry way into the forest to avoid anyone getting separated because as they just saw it is hard to survive here in a group never mind alone. Everyone kept marching through the foliage as the sun beats down on them, thanks to being wet from the voyage combined with the heat made just about everyone stink horribly if nothing else the stench alone would keep predators away. Some were grumbling, others were trying their best to brush the tears aside and the expedition force were simply pushing forward to make it to the next day, a sentiment Yusui could get behind.

Surprisingly enough no one was attacked during the hours of non-stop walking, be it because of the swamp smell, the group as a whole had or no predator wanted to try its luck with such a large entourage. Yusui once again carried Soma on his shoulders along with all her baggage, it was the least he could do after all none of them would be here to walk around if it weren’t for her. Soma eventually began to wiggle around while being hauled like a sack of potatoes, shaking her weight around randomly waking herself up. The vision was slow to return to her, the people who were walking behind Yusui were just misshapen blobs while the environment was some strange off gray. Colors and shapes fixed themselves properly when the smell of something hit her nose, which so happen to be the strong odor, but something else was mixed in, something fresh. She soon regained strength in her arms and legs patted Yusui to let her down though that brought a new sensation of her weak legs catching a nearby branch helped that.

“I hear running water, herself, ” Soma said, cupping her ears in a direction “Defiantly a spring or maybe a lake?” The pioneer confirmed straightening up her body filled with renewed zeal, the promise was enough to whip the young girl into shape. Grabbing her weapon and twirling it around her neck to unravel the actual flag making herself known to the entire group no matter how far back they were then asked everyone to follow her.

“You heard the captain follow here” The big Eruset shouted reinforcing her status as the new captain being that the original one is still missing and being the first mate Soma got an instant promotion.

Soma ran through the forest floor with her flag waving behind her like a massively long tail whipping around in the wind like a beacon for the rest to follow. The light job wouldn’t last long as she broke through a brush stumbling into a massive clearing where a ridge could be seen at the far side with a constant stream of water running down the ridge and flowing into a modest sized pool in the center of the clearing. The flag bearer walked towards the river, it was clear enough to see to the bottom so at least she knew there wasn’t anything lurking beneath the surface; the rest of the expedition force started to pour into the clearing looking around with wonder truly a beautiful sight.

“I think we may have just found camp” Soma proclaimed with a smile soon followed by Yusui ordering everyone to scan the area then begin setting up.

Connor has had his life threatened to many times today for him to care about the latest creature. However, that did not stop him from trying to survive, so he kept running. He instinctively kept with the others, not wanting to be alone in this unknown and dangerous land. And so they marched through this jungle, a roving snack for any predator that decided they were worth the energy.

It was at this time that Connor calmed down and was no longer worried about his immediate safety. So he took stock of what he had, the situation being quite obvious. "Crap." he muttered as he realized that all of his equipment was now gone. His forge, his tools, even the padded clothing that would act as armor and the maul were gone. So that meant he was next to useless. Oh, he still had his strength, but what could he use it for now? All he would be able to do was haul things. Well, at least he wouldn't be completely useless. Just mostly useless.

When a possible camping location and the pace picked up, he made sure he kept up. Though he slowed down enough to help anyone that couldn't for whatever reason, even picking up a gentlman that was getting up there in years. And so he followed the banner to a river. And from there, he didn't know what to do. Oh, it looked nice and all. But now what?
