If I fell in love with you

Johnny R McAvery

Magic still exist for those willing to see.
Adam was sitting down, relaxing in the little cafe that was attached to the museum. It had been a long morning already with all the running around he had on his first day. Most of it being paperwork, getting introduced to everyone, finding his work locker and being shown the new animals he had to work with. He had known a good bit about most of the them but had written down the names of ten or so amphibians that were new to him. This museum was massive and had lots to look at. As large as it was and with the first floor being filled with animals that lived in cages it was almost like being in a simple zoo. Adam liked that. It was relaxing to him. Sighing contently he sipped at his tea and shoved half a muffin into his mouth. It felt good to have a break for the time being, although he had a small meeting to attend to in the next half hour. A teacher from some school was coming by to hand in a bunch of permission slips and ask some questions about her class that was supposed to be going on a field trip the next day. She would have with her the other teachers that taught the same grade and possibly the head principal. It was no big sweat for him. He didn't get nervous talking to new people, especially ones in a crowd. It was one on one with people that made him a little nervous.

Summer and the other teachers, that she worked with in the same grade. Had finally gotten, to the museum. It wasn't a long ride, but with all of us in there it was a little stuffy. Getting out and walking up to the building, stepping into the first floor. She smiled at all the animals, she knew that her kids, would love being here. Tho any child would love it really. Some of the other teathers, went looking at the animals. As Summer walked into the office looking for where they needed to be. Seeing the lady at the front desk, Summer smiles, going up to the front desk. "Hello, I am here with some other teachers. And we had a meeting with the gentlemen, that teaches about amphibians?" The lady behind the desk smiled, "Oh yes, he is on lunch break I believe right now. But he should be done soon. If you would just wait on the first floor, he will be out as soon as he can." Summer smiled, "Thank you very much ma'am." Summer walking back out to the floor to wait for him. She goes to the other teachers, and looks around at the animals.

Adam looked up and saw the clock, not knowing that the teachers were already there, got up and casually walked to where they were supposed to be meeting. Once he saw a group of teachers up ahead he began walking at a fast pace. He was glad he was wearing long pants for his first few days of work as his legs were covered in colorful tattoos, this might not have set well with the teachers at the time being. He ran into Summer first and offered his hand out to her. "Sorry I wasn't expecting you for another few minutes. So sorry about that. So how can I be of help to you? This is my first school group I have done." He hadn't noticed that he had some chocolate chip smeared on the corner of his mouth, nor the fact that a feeble crumb was clinging to one of his buttons that fastened his shirt.

Summer taking his hand into hers, shaking it. She smiles, "Oh no it is just fine really. You know us teachers we like to be early." She blushed a little as she said that. Always seeming to ramble. Seeing the chocolate chip. "Umm not to point it out. But you have a little chocolate chip. On the corner of your mouth." She hoped he wouldn't get embrassed by that. But we all do that. "Oh you will love the kids. They are second grader's. And we have the permissions slips. We were wondering if you would be willing to teach them. Some of us aren't to good with frogs and things of that sort." She laughs, "And we feel that you would be better at teaching them." She was good at meeting new people. But she always got a little tongue tied when talking. Adults were a lot different then kids were.

"It'll be no problem. I think it would be fun to teach the kids about this sort of thing. If you want I can ask the board if I can talk about reptiles as well. That way the kids can actually touch something. Of course I wouldn't have anything dangerous. None of the frogs are poisonous and the snakes aren't venomous. If I might ask what are you currently going over in class?" Asked Adam as he removed the chocolate from his face. It hadn't phased him any. It was something that had happened to everyone in life, no matter how long they had been around eating. He pulled his hair into place, feeling that it had been a mess. He hated having his hair chaotic and like to have some sort of order with it.

"Oh that is great. Well we are going over. The different types of snakes and frogs. What their enivorment is like. The kids would love to touch. They learn the best that way." said Summer. This was going to be great for the kids. The boys would love to touch. She watched him as he put his hair back into place. Tho his hair was just fine by what she thought. "You might even get us teachers. To actually touch something." She laughed as she said that. Running her hand through her long golden hair. Why was she getting nervous about this? They were just going over plans for the kids.

"Very good then. Is there anything you would personally like to see? I can see if we have one. I mean it is my first day here but I have a few things at home that aren't here." Said Adam with a warm smile. He had learned that smiling helped, or usually helped, people relax and feel invited. He looked about and watched as some of the teachers peered through cages and tanks, starring at things they were either afraid of or thought beautiful. It was why he was here. To help thoise afraid get over there fears.

"I don't know if you have them here. But those pacman frogs. Those seem very insteresting. And they get to be mud so the kids over love that. " Summer said as she smiled. Well he didn't seem to think her to odd. So that was a plus in and of it self. "The kids wanted me to bring one. Well the boys anyways, so that is something that they would love. And I won't be asked to bring it again." She laughs as she says that. Summer's eyes light up every time that she talks about the kids. Well the kids and her puppies at home. "Oh your first day here. And you have to deal with all us teachers. You are a brave man." Summer said kind of teasing him.

Adam laughed happily. "I was hoping for something like this soon. I got a Pacman at the house. His name is Skarro. He is still growing. I'll bring him tomorrow. So how long have you been teaching little kids?" Adam wasn't great with kids one on one, but he had dealt with them when he was back at home in Georgia, teaching an entire class with a few other people about what he was to be teaching everyone tomorrow. He was excited an hoped that he'd have regular tours to give along with shows. He was thankful that his schedule was reserved for the morning slot so he could get to class right after.

"Well the kids will keep you going." Summer says. "Oh I have been teaching for two years now and I love it. They bring a great joy when they learn something." She talks even more excited as she goes on. "But they will run all your enegry out fast." She laughs softly. "You said that today was your first day? Is this the only thing that keeps you busy? And thank you for doing all this for us." She smiles at him.

Holding the permission slips in the folder, in her arms. She was actually having a nice time talking with him. He seemed like a nice person. But she hadn't met a lot of unfriendly people around here. Since she moved here.

"Yeah. But I visited here a lot before I got the job. Mostly with interviews and checking in on my application. And when I had time to burn." Said Adam as he took the folder from her. "We'll make sure you have this when you return in the morning to make sure everyone checks out. We are supposed to make copies here so we have them on file. All that fun office stuff. It really is no problem with this. Back in Georgia I need this, just with other people and with our own personal pets."

"This is a great place. You are lucky to have found a job here." Summer says. "Oh that is just fine. That is why I brought them along for you. Every child that is coming tomorrow, their slips are in there. Sorry it is a lot tho. Office work is so much fun." She kids with him again. "Georgia really? You are from down south huh? I my self come from Missouri. I have been down there a few times." Hearing about pets she perked up. "Do you have any other pets? I have two little english bull dog puppies at home." Her eyes spakle as she asks him.

"Yeah. It was hot as hell there. I swear when the devil lost that fiddling match he took it out on everyone there." Said Adam as he adjusted himself and rested a hand on the edge of a counter. "My father has always been a fan of English Bull Dogs. But I have two cats and several different frogs and some salamanders."

"Well when he took out on people down there. It must have made it up to Missouri. Thank god it is not so hot here. Don't have to drink what we breath." Summer says as she laughs some. She relaxes talking to him more. "Oh I like cats to. But I was raised around dogs. So it makes me feel at home. Having them around me. I hope I am not keeping you from working." Summer says. Hoping that she was rambling and talking to much. Looking over at the teachers as they look at the animals. "What time do we need to be here tomorrow? We maybe a little early but not to early." Smiling kindly.

"Tell me about it. I felt like a fish most days in the summer." Said Adam laughing. He looked at his phone for a minute, using it as a calendar so make sure he had the right time. "Be here at 9:30? That way you can finish with the first floor completely. Then my show would be at 11, then you guys could have lunch and finish with the rest of the museum." He figured that was the best course of action but wasn't sure as a lot of kids would be there.

"9:30 would be great. That gives us time to get the kids all on the bus. And if anything changes by tomorrow. There is a way to contact me in the folder." Summer says. As she types that into her phone. So would keep track of everything. "I want to thank you for taking the time to do this for us. And for talking to me about all this. But we have to get back to make sure everything is fine tomorrow." Summer says with a smile as she holds out her hand to him.

Adam shook it confidently. "The pleasure is all mine. Oh before you leave would you mine telling me which of the Walmarts around here is the best? And a local pet shop or bait shop is?"

((I need to reply later. I got busy. But this is going really good so far. I just got a dream pet for my B-Day so really distracted))

(( Ok you take your time with you new pet! And happy belated or early or right on time birthday! Cover all the bases there lol. I agree it is. I am enjoying it so far.))

"Oh of course. A few miles down the road you will find the best Walmart. I always go there. And for the pet shop there is one just on the other side of town. Very great people, I take my puppies in with me there all the time." Smiling as she walks back to the teachers. He was a nice man, it will be nice to have the kids learn from him. And I will learn something as well.

"Awesome thank you." Said Adam. "It helps to get food for everything. I hope the pet store has variety in food. I mean sure everything can eat crickets, but they aren't super healthy. Dubia and night crawlers are far better." While he went to the pet shop he'd evaluate how good it was. Pet shops were notorious very poor care in reptiles, especially in big chain stores like Pets Smart, although he had known of a few that were suburb. "Well thanks again. I should probably let you get about your day. I have some stuff to handle before shift ends. Have a great day."

"You're very welcome" Summer says, "Oh trust me it does. We will see you tomorrow. You have as well." She smiles as. Heading off to the teachers. She looks around a little. A little scared of some of the animals. The teachers laugh as her, she just smiles at them. As they make their way out of the building. She couldn't wait to come back her tomorrow. See what other things that they have in the there. Getting back to the school, Summer starts makes sure that everything is set for tomorrow. One of the other teachers, Mandy, comes in and sits down and talks with Summer. "So you talked with the guy a long time." Mandy says. Summer raising her eyebrow looks over at Mandy. "You mean the gentlemen that is going to be teaching the kids tomorrow?" Summer asks, wondering as to why this was brought up. "Well yeah him. You two were over there talking for a long time Summer." Mandy says with a smile. "Well we were talking about what we studying with the kids. And he was nice Mandy. And he will be good at teaching the kids tomorrow." Summer says. Summer knew what Mandy was doing. And she was going to stop it. "Mandy I have to get things done then go home. So I will talk to you later." Summer says. "Ok Summer I will see you tomorrow then." Mandy says as she walks back to her class room. Summer was glad to be alone and working. Mandy had a way of poking her nose into things. And Summer was not going to have that.

((Time skip))

Adam had finished everything the previous night and all the paperwork was in order. One of the things he had done as the museums special little bonus was get ready the camera and the photo center on the computer. Each kid would have their photo taken with an animal, a reptile, of their choosing and the frame around there photo had their name on it. Their parents could get frames for them or stick it onto the fridge. Those would be given to the teacher to hand out of course. He was back in the cafe once more and was sipping at a mint tea, being a little paranoid that his breath might smell bad.

Summer was getting everyone on the bus. The kids were loud as always, when going on a field trip. Walking down the middle of the bus. Counting all of the kids. To make sure that everyone was on. Getting back to the front of the bus, she sits down. Getting excited her self. She loved field trips with the kids. One of the other teachers came and sat down with her. The short ride to the museum, the kids were talking and singing the whole way there. The teachers getting off the bus. Kids start coming off the 2 buses that they had to take. Making sure all the kids get off the bus. Summer is the last in the building. The kids looking all around the place, pointing at everything. One of the little kids come over to Summer. Pulling on her knee high skirt. "Miss.Heartsmith, can we go look now please?" The little boy asked excited. Summer smiling down at the little boy, "We will soon Ben. We have to wait for the man that is going to teach you all today." Summer says. The little boy smiling big. Nods his head and slips his hand into Summers.

Adam looked at the clock and headed down to the buses. He knew that they were here now, not only because he could hear them but also because the lady at the cafe had said something about it.

Opening the large doors he smiled as he walked down the short series of steps. "Good morning everyone. My name is Adam and I'll be your first floor guide. A colleague of mine will finish your tour on the last two tours. So welcome one and all to the Natural Science Museum of Ohio. This first floor is dedicated to animals. The second floor is to teach you about natural disasters and the third floor is about prehistoric animals. So I have a few rules before we can walk in. This is a museum and silence should be maintained. At the end of each section I will take questions. At the end of this tour I will have a special show to share with you. Now Let's get all the loud out before we go in. Who is ready to have fun! Say it loud so I can hear you."

All the kids scream and jump up and down, as the say, "We are ready!!!" Summer laughs as she watches them jump up and down. She kind of felt for Adam because they were going to ask him a lot of questions. The kids kind of bunch a little closer to Adam. Well at least she knew that they wouldn't be wondering off. They would be in grossed at what was going on. She was going to have make sure that they didn't get loud. They do that when they get really excited about something. That they are learning about. But this was going to be a great day. Smiling at Adam as he talked to the kids.

Adam began the tour and about an hour later he had made it to the show room. In it was a set of bleachers, although more comfortable than the metal ones found in schools for football games. They curved around the center of the room allowing everyone to see the speaker easily. Adam had already set everything up although a mesh clothe was over everything to avoid peeking eyes.

"Alright, now as before I need everyone to remain quiet. If you are loud it'll scare the animals and they won't like that. Secondly this first set of animals you cannot touch. The oils in your hands can make them sick. The second set of animals I will allow you to touch, but we have to do it in a calm fashion. So if you are excited to meet a bunch of amphibians and reptiles shake your hands in the air."
