I did not do a language thingy or anything of the sort yet. When imagining the bokoblin language specifically, I'm thinking it is a highly contextual and primitive language. Like the way monkeys have a different howl for an eagle vs a lion, and MAYBE they would have words for "fuck off" vs "friend". Don't break these rules and we're on the same page.I tried to keep to "they" when referring to monsters as well, as I never realized until writing a response that the monsters don't seem to have a concept of gender. Also, plot you say? There are a lot of ways that a lack of concept of self can go so I'm curious what it's gonna turn out to be.
I assumed so! xD
Might stick to they/them too. I'd been looking for a solid idea of gender and pronouns for the character anyways so might as well piggy back off of ya.
Also random side note but I was trying to figure out languages since my various backgrounds give a few, and I wanted to run them by you before they have any significant effect in character.
Deku or Forest-Speak or Korok: Based on Sylvan, that consists of a series of whistling, bell or ringing sounds, and the rustling of plants that is spoken by magical creatures of the forests of Hyrule
Hylian: I'd imagine this is what Common would be?
Moblin: Based on Goblin, grunts, squeaks, and more primal guttural sounds that are used by the various "-oblin" monsters to have basic communication. For Oro it'd likely come from a combination of curious questions to the Deku Tree and some innate knowledge from Malice.
Celestial: Didn't know what this one would be in Zelda canon so just went for straight Celestial spoken by ancient guardians and spirits like the Deku Tree. Again a language Oro would only know the very basics from occasional picking up a conversation the Deku Tree had.
I'm not sure if you provided a list of languages anywhere so please do direct me to that if there is-

I’d say it’s fair to assume races would have key words in their language be unique. Similar to gerudo having Savaaq being hello I believe in their language, but otherwise speaking common. Maybe in ancient times they all spoke different languages entirely but they have sense been diluted into common amongst the intelligent life forms of Hyrule. This idea is especially supported by the games having specific naming styles for the different races. By all means, get creative. These are good questions about languages.
I had similar ideas about Hylian = common and Bokoblin/Mobil = Goblin if they can speak.
Should we expect there to be different languages at play and for the different races to have their own?
If you’re cool I’m cool. I thought it was quite poignant to Garvii’s character. Not really caring to say anything else and just wanting perkins to shut the fuck up lmao. That’s why I made the minimum post a paragraph (three sentences, eh) because sometimes you really don’t need more than that to contribute to the story.Stok
Apologies about my short reply in the latest post. This seemed like a direct question without much room to narrate. Let me know if you'd prefer I edit it and add more.
Thanks for the note, sounds good. I'll look for more and more opportunities for that kind of contribution. If you’re cool I’m cool. I thought it was quite poignant to Garvii’s character. One thing I was going to say about your gameplay is you know I would have let you roll a million perception/investigation rolls to further investigate Gregor’s equipment? Not that you had to if Garvii wasn’t worried about it lol. You just never requested any, I don’t know if you knew you could.
I like to leave a LOT of extra information up to player agency. Dots to connect, that sort of thing. That way you as the player feel extra smart when you ask for an insight roll and turns out there's a whole extra paragraph of plot info hiding from you. So yeah, just part of learning who I am as a dm fs. Not like you fucked anything up by not doing that. Thanks for the note, sounds good. I'll add something to my last post related to it.
Gotcha!Just_Dragon StorytellerLathos so for narration purposes, I generally leave out where you get hit or how you avoided an attack if it misses. This can be so that you can describe your character doing cool shit like blocking the attack or dodging on your own terms. If you get hit, as long as it makes sense with the amount of damage you took, you can describe where on your body the wound is or how you react.
We're playing by anime rules so if you take 20 damage you can say you got impaled or whatever the fuck, and that shit will heal right up with a good nap lmao. Within reason. If you (or I) say your arm gets chopped off it will probably stay off barring a good plot reason/powerful potion.
Just saying all this because it's on the brain right now, while we're getting into combat.
He wears them on his back, probably should've included that in a description-Just_Dragon
Just for some character visualization, does Dragon wear his dual blades at his sides or on his back? Also, are these like traveler's swords or something different?
StorytellerLathos
Awesome to see the Fairy Slingshot getting some use!
Btw, you have the option to pick up the boomerang again next turn as a free action, before attacking.Gotcha!

I think the traveler's sword is around the same size as your average shortsword-
Aside from a few black bloodstains, it isn't chipped or anything of the sort. It's well kept, just needs a wash
I'll make sure Oro gets a few eyes poked out, wood chips slashed out of them, and plenty of sap gushing gashesJust_Dragon StorytellerLathos so for narration purposes, I generally leave out where you get hit or how you avoided an attack if it misses. The structure is on the opposite end of the camp to the throne, I thought Oro was simply looking that way I didn't realize you were moving there! Sorry. Also, to move towards the throne would be to move through the mass of monsters, so when that spell ends you'll be found out. Just for your planningOmg I also forgot Stok
By going through these habitations is Oro moving further away from the throne? I don't know if I'd made it clear enough that that's where they kinda wanted to head and I wasn't 100% on where this throne is. I'm also assuming the Moblin as at their throne though I might just need to check up on that ic.
Edit: Further in is a mystery, will likely just continue forward
I was thinking rocks would do just fine in a pinch, that sort of thing. I'd be fine with the crafting of Deku seeds. Maybe it's an incantation you have to say during a long rest over some normal forest seeds? And rather than give you a penalty for using normal ammo, let's say you get +2 to hit with the slingshot while using Deku seeds. Sound fair? I'll make you roll to see how many seeds you find per long rest. I'll even write a table! Start with 30 on your person for nowI'll make sure Oro gets a few eyes poked out, wood chips slashed out of them, and plenty of sap gushing gashes
Also wanted to ask about ammo. So traditionally the Fairy Slingshot uses Deku Seeds as their ammo but I can't find anything about those existing by this point. I described the projectile as just being a wooden pellet (name tbdtm) and my idea was that it was something Oro was taught to make by either the Koroks or Deku Tree. Using this I wanted to see if during periods where we're hunting or just resting in general they can make additional pellets with some kind of roll. Course they can still load other small objects into the Fairy Slingshot, it'd just count as an improvised weapon and wouldn't get the additional attack. Maybe other pellets they buy could also work but I do like the idea that these forest wood pellets are the best for this fairy weapon.
Ohhhh yeah I thought they seemed a little apart just wasn't sure but no prob! I should've checked up beforehand lolThe structure is on the opposite end of the camp to the throne, I thought Oro was simply looking that way I didn't realize you were moving there! Sorry. Yeah, that should work! I went a bit hard on it just cause it's cool Fairy Slingshot so it must be hard to use type thinking.I was thinking rocks would do just fine in a pinch, that sort of thing. While I've got you, what are you picturing Oro as? As sort of a bipedal person made of wood with arms? And the Roundish head and sort of wide mouth? Or do they have a more human face and just wooden skin? Your preference of course, but I'd allow something like a dryad if you wanted to go that routeOhhhh yeah I thought they seemed a little apart just wasn't sure but no prob! I'll probably play it as Oro popping in to see what's inside, seeing it's just habitation up front will pop back out. They might take something shiny too just before they leave if they see anything with maybe an Investigation or Perception check if you'll allow
That spell technically lasts for up to an hour so I don't think it should be an issue. Unless I like massively eat shit on a nat 1...

Definitely a traditional Deku look, bipedal with the round wooden face and arms (based Oro's body off of how link looks with the deku mask on). The gaping opening for a mouth and red-orange eyes that at the edges lean more into hues of a red-purple reflecting the malice that drives through them. Their "hair" is a collection of leaves that adorn their head, they're messy and have been left to grow to a point that they'll often cover their eyes if they don't move it away. In these rounded leaves is also a string of red-yellow flowers that have grown down from the top of their head. The leaves are currently a mix of dark green and bright green as they change to match the leaves of the surrounding area and with the seasons. While I've got you, what are you picturing Oro as? Oh, awesome! I'll do just that next turnBtw, you have the option to pick up the boomerang again next turn as a free action, before attacking.
Lmao I'm fine to keep it, because it was quite funny, but if I ask for a roll it's because I have something specific planned to reveal to you. Sometimes this is an item, more often it's information which pertains to your current mission. Also, I'm a fan of treating rolls as representing your point of view rather than influencing what does/doesn't spawn in the universe around you. So please leave that to me in the future. ^_^Stok
I did write the result of my investigation roll into my response as dung just cause it was so low, if you'd prefer to put your idea for the result I can edit it!
Oh yeah if you ask for a roll I entirely understand it's a DM "i'm trying to show you this thing dingus" moment so I should wait on a response.Lmao I'm fine to keep it, because it was quite funny, but if I ask for a roll it's because I have something specific planned to reveal to you. Asking here is always an option, and a definite way to make sure things go more the direction you want them to in your head. I'd need more context to know exactly what you're talking about thoughOh yeah if you ask for a roll I entirely understand it's a DM "i'm trying to show you this thing dingus" moment so I should wait on a response.
I also really prefer that, it's kinda why I tried to stay ambiguous about what exactly was in the room and that they were searching specifically under the skins. I didn't know if there'd be anything there either but felt it was safer and left more description open. Related question, let's say we are doing our own quick rolls that are more out of the way and don't need to take up a whole response, kinda like this one. Should it just be a smaller post where we can wait for a response or would you prefer we ask about the result here and then describe it in a few sentences?
I have an unrelated question about some actions I wanna take but wanna let you answer this first.
