Fantasy Howl's Flying Castle (Finished! ---Whoo! (*^▽^)/)

-Renee Pendragon-

Renee raised an eyebrow when James opened the door and gaping at her. When he asked her, she cooed loudly before shoving the basket in his arms, not caring if he wasn't prepared. Just to annoy her older brother, the white-haired teen shook her head, letting the feathers fall off from her wings and flapping them into his room; creating more of a mess because the spell is finally coming off and her wings shrunk a bit.

A bit of revenge for thinking it's to make him laugh and not thanking her for doing his laundry...

Then she was about to leave when she spotted his bed and pointed at the mound, chirping curiously. Why did his bed have a mound? Renee tilted her head, blinking up at her older brother.

James looked behind him clutching the basket, "Oh!" And he suddenly looked tense. "Uh, I've got a couple of books I'm . . . warming --- anyway, thanks for washing my clothes." he had a somewhat guilty look on his face as though he still felt bad about the fight they had a few days ago and was a bit awkward. He put the basket aside and stepped into the hall, closing the door behind him.

"Why are you a bird?" he said changing the topic.

-Renee Pendragon-

Renee thought it was weird that James looked nervous. Warming books? She gave him a look that says 'Right, and I'm the queen of Kingsbury.' The winged-teen wanted to go inside and see what he was hiding, but he closed the door before she could. Something's up if James was acting weird...or he just felt awkward about the fight.

She sighed and perked up a bit when he asked her. She opened her mouth only to chirp loudly and gave up on trying to talk. Instead she grabbed his wrist and dragged him downstairs to point at a picture of their father and then point at her wings.

She's trying to let James know that she's learning how to transform like their father can do.

James laughed a bit when his sister cooed. "Oh, I see." he said in understanding after she pointed at the picture. He looked to the side and saw that the twins were still shocked and had not moved from their previous position and were just gaping at their sister.

"HOW DID YOU TURN INTO A MAJESTIC EAGLE?!" burst Seth excitedly leaping from his seat and running over to Renee to touch her feathers. "THIS IS SO COOL!"

"You sure it's an eagle? Looks more like a dove, I think." said Sen with great interest, picking up a fallen feather.

"Mmm, more like an owl . . . Her cooing is a bit like Sasha's." said James. Heen coughed. "Ah, right, your dinner." he added to the dog and went off to look for something to feed to Heen.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Calcifer poked his head out from under the logs. " Porthaven door."

"Ah, that's probably ours!" said Sen opening the door. There at the doorway stood a burly looking sailor man and behind him was a wagon with crates of what looked like magical ingredients.

"Hey, you Sen?" said the man in gruff voice as he chewed on the end of a big cigar that wasn't lit. On close inspection the man had a beefy neck and peeking out from under a dirty collar was the tip of a tattoo.

"Yah, you Mike?" asked Sen in a business like tone.

The man grunted. "This is the place boys, unload the boxes." a bunch of thuggish men placed the boxes carefully outside the door and when they were done, they presented a paper which Sen magically sealed with a hand.

"Pleasure doin' business with ya." said the man and Sen shut the door.

Renee couldn't help but preen under Seth's touch, her giggles sounding like a pigeon cooing hiccups. If anyone looked closely, they might have noticed that her cheeks were a darker shade of purple-grey, like she was blushing. The winged teen didn't know why, but she was enjoying their comments, now wondering herself as to what bird she might closely resemble to. When there was a knock and Sen answered the door, talking to a guy, the hybrid teen tilted head with an eyebrow raised.

Who was this guy and why was Sen talking like that?

She amused herself a bit by fluttering her wings around Seth, giggling when she surprised him from the strong gust of wind. Then she picked off the feathers that fell on his person. After he shut the door, Renee walked closer to the creates, chirping and cooing curiously as she took out a random item. She wondered if it's for the twins' shop. Maybe it's the items they needed for their inventions...

Renee remembered about the plants she has to check on and plans telling the twins that she started on it...once she transform back. She'll ask Calcifer if he can help...

" Howl's Flying Castle, Night Time "

"Sister you are adorable!" doted Seth squishing her purple blushed feathery cheeks and pulling them like taffy.

"Yo, brah, give me a hand!" Sen called his twin and put on gloves.

"Righto!" Seth laughed when Renee flapped the gust his way and went down to help his brother haul the crates up.

The wooden boxes had no commercial labels like most delivery crates that proudly display the merchant, guild or farm that they came from. There were six all in all and each was filled with one type of material: one seemed to be full of combustible powders for fireworks, another layers of colorful thick papers, another had glassomabobs (a type of glass alchemists use that bounces once like rubber before breaking on the next hard impact), and another seemed to be full of dried potion ingredients. The last two seemed to be delicate equipment and tools padded in bubble wrap.

"These are for our fireworks and marshmallow bombs." said Sen in answer to Renee's curious cooing as he set down the last crate together with his brother, then shut the door. "We got a special discount from a friend." he grinned. "Now all we need are the sparkweeds and Absynnian shrivelfigs."

"Wow, who gave you those?" asked James coming out of the pantry and looking at the crates in surprise. "Hey . . . These are class A non-tradable goods. You need a professional alchemist permit to buy this which you guys don't have." he added suspiciously picking up a bottle of powdered unicorn horn and a vial of dried pixie eggs.

"Yeah we do, or at least Sen does. Show our brother dear our guild insignia, Sen."

Sen proudly lifted up his left sleeve and there was a bluish tattoo that had a tip that looked similar to the one the beefy sailor had on his neck. "I'm the guild master of the Cool Beans Guild!"

"Cool . . . beans?"

"Yeah, we made it yesterday!" said Sen pointing to himself and his brother. "Apart from warriors, the army is also funding and supporting guilds who can create weapons to use on the dragon. We showed them our marshmallow bombs and waterproof fireworks and they liked it! So now we got a military contract to improve the marshmallow bomb to make it effective on the dragon."

" . . . Good job." said James at a loss for words. The twins actually did something responsible and very grown up.

Renee chuckled at the guild's name and at James' expression. It was so like the twins to surprise them and she always loved their surprises (Just not when they disappear.) She guessed that James didn't expect the twins to actually do something smart, but she knew otherwise. If they were smart enough to create new items, then they should be smart enough to make their own guild and get a military contract. The design on their mark is also interesting, since it had alchemy symbols on it.

The winged teen cooed excitedly, bringing the twins in a hug and nuzzled on their heads proudly. She let go of the twins, quickly picking up a piece of paper and a pencil to write with. She scribbled down what she wanted to tell them. Renee showed them the note she wrote and it said:

'I've started on growing what you asked for. It should be able to grow and bear fruit soon.'

The white-haired teen walked up to Calcifer, chirping for help on how to transform back. She had enough with this form and she was getting physically tired. It took her a few moments. According to the fire demon, she needed to relax and reel in that intense feeling, but she was having a hard time doing it. Renee breathed in again, now sitting on the floor near Calcifer and relaxed a bit.

Once she managed to reel in her excitement, she groaned in pain as she changed back. Feathers slowly went back into her skin. Her legs and feet made a cracking sound as it changed into human legs; Same with her hands, they shrunk and didn't have talons anymore. The bird-like skin trailed back to just appearing around her eyes, hands and toes. Her wings shrunk as well, the long tail disappearing like the other feathers.

"Merlin, that hurts...How does dad tolerate the pain? Geez..." Renee muttered tiredly before turning a bit to look over her shoulder and saw that her brothers were staring at her again. She tilted her head, raising an eyebrow at them. "What? What is it?" She can hear the fire demon sighing from behind her, quietly saying something like 'Like Father, like daughter.' She didn't notice the state of her dress, ripped almost in half from the feathers growing out of back and shoulders.

"Except dad knows how to shape-shift back with his clothes on." said James chuckling, unfastening the gold brooch of his outer robe and unceremoniously dumping the garment on Renee's back like a blanket. The robe was a little drenched as James had come from under the rain outside a while ago. "You two need help with the crates?" he added to the twins, folding up the long sleeves of his renaissance shirt.

"You're being nice?!" asked Sen and Seth incredulously.

"I'm supporting your shop, so do you want help with the crates or not?" said James stiffly. He always had problems expressing affection or niceties towards his siblings since being straight up kind just felt awkward and weird and ew.

"Yeah . . . th-thanks? ---- eurgh, I can't believe we said that." said Sen and Seth together, rubbing their faces and making expressions as though they ate something nasty.

James just scowled at them, but took one of the lighter crates and brought it upstairs. The brothers transferred all the crates up before dinner and the mood around the table was very good, as though they had put their past fights behind them.

-Renee Pendragon-

She blushed a bit when they mentioned about the clothes. "T-thanks, James." Renee quietly said, grabbing on the edges of his robes and tugging it close. She watched her brothers' interactions and smiled happily. Finally...it's not as awkward as before.

The white-haired teen went up the stairs to change into something decent. Then she went back down to start on dinner, setting it up when her siblings took the creates upstairs.

Renee's wings fluttered happily as she laughed at the twins' teasing with James during dinner.

- James Pendragon -

"Sorcerer's Academy, Kingsbury, A few days later"

The start of the second school term began on the second week of spring. The twins who were staying at home from now on gave their two siblings a fond motherly-like, "~Have a nice daaaay!" and blew kisses before they left the flying castle that morning.

James cringed at the memory. He had evaded to the side to dodge the blown kisses. At that point, the twins turned their blown kisses into rapid pew-pew kisses just to land one on their older brother.

He was now riding Frey and passing through the gates of the Sorcerer's Academy, the same school of magic that his father had studied in. James was no longer a student, but a pre-graduate finishing the last of his two years as one of the apprentices of a master summoner, Professor Thrall Magnus, who taught Conjuration in the school.

Warlock apprentices developed their skills by observing their masters work in the real world and by doing the complex tasks their masters often leave in their care. As such James often joins in the lectures of Professor Magnus, doing demonstrations in front his students and sometimes teaching in his stead.

There were also times when his master gets called out of school to fix some summoning mishaps --- mages and ignorant ordinary people sometimes accidentally summon evil spirits that possess them --- or he gets called to take care of dangerous monsters that stir up trouble in the surrounding towns and villages. During these times, he brings James and his other apprentices with him and lets them take care of it while he guided them from the side, or he lets them go out of the school by themselves and deal with it all alone. It was good leadership and teamwork training.

"James, old chap, you're looking as spritely as a trimmed carrot with a bonnet!" cried a voice from behind him and James turned to see one of his friends mounted on a giant ram coming up to ride beside him.

His friend was a young man who wore very bright colorful clothes, had pink hair, clownish make-up, and sheep horns twirling out from the side of his head. He was another apprentice under Professor Magnus, and his name was, "Johnny 'Joker' Caprice".

Renee giggled at the memory of her siblings, not minding if people thought she was strange. Watching James trying and failing at dodging the twins' rapid fire kisses was a great way to start the first day of their second school term in the Sorcerer's Academy. She'll never understand why her older and younger brothers don't like showing affection, but it's great when they surprise each other with it.

Renee hummed a bit, her wings flapped gleeful as she walked besides Frey. Being a student for Herbology is different than being a warlock's apprentice. The student has to study and remember what the plants are, their properties, what they can do under certain circumstances and environments they are in, which will take years.

After that, the student can advance to learn how to make medical items or weapons, depending on the student's intentions. Even work on the field without the professors there to watch over them since they have to remember the information they learned on their own. A harsh method, but it works since none of the students want to mess up.

And this term, Renee is one of the few students who gets to advance under the guide of Pamela Grandiflorus, the professor of Herbalogy.

She was about to tell her brother 'goodbye', when she heard a voice behind them and out comes riding on his Ram was Johnny "Joker" Caprice, her brother's friend.

"Hello! Nice to see you, Johnny." Renee greeted, smiling at him.

"Sorcerer's Academy, Kingsbury, A few days later"

"Oh!" startled Johnny, his lamb ears flapping. "Er, g-good day, Renee . . ." he mumbled, his bravado deflating, and pulled his blue fisherman hat down his face.

"Johnny!" laughed James shaking his hand enthusiastically as Frey and the giant ram butted heads in jolly greeting. Johnny's hat fell down revealing his reddening face. "You still scared of girls? It's just my sister."

"S-still . . ." muttered Johnny in a soft whisper, giving Renee an embarrassed nod and then looking away. James chuckled at him as though he found his friend's demeanor highly amusingly.

"Hello, Butters." James bowed at the ram, who bowed its great white fluffy horned head politely back and gazed at the two Pendragons with eyes as alert and intelligent as Frey's. Butters was Johnny's guardian spirit, just as Frey was to James. Guardian spirits were unique summons in that they were all unexplainably perfectly compatible with their summoners and no two mages have ever had the same.

It was as if they were lost best friends you had forgotten, and the first time a warlock meets their guardian spirit they always feel as if they had known them somewhere even though they had never met before.

-Herbalist's laboratory-

'Oops...'She smiled, feeling a bit awkward since she forgot about his nervous tendencies around her. The winged teen does like him; He's very nice, cheerful, and bright...when he's not around the female gender. Renee nodded back before bowing at the giant ram. "Hello to you too, Butters."

She turned to James, her wings fluttering in excitement. "Wish me luck, James. I'll see you at home! Bye Frey!" After hugging the buck and a wave at her brother's shy friend, Renee ran off to a secluded hallway that's decorated with flora and purple tapestry. The white-haired teen slowed down to a walk, breathing in the air as it became a bit fresher the further in she walked. The hallway is quiet since there weren't many herb students to begin with and the bit of noise she does hear is the leaves rustling from the wind.

She stopped in front of a classroom, breathing in to calm down and slides the door open. With a wide grin, Renee stepped inside, taking in all the different tools and plants that covered the room. The cabinets filled with empty jars, Bunsen burners, measuring tools, and more that she has seen but never used before. Sun light comes through the window panes, giving the lab a cozy atmosphere...to her anyways.

The winged teen walked over to the locked door that leads to the school's greenhouse, place her hands on the small window as she looked inside. Renee just can't wait to go inside and see all the different plants!

"Sorcerer's Academy, Kingsbury "

After Renee had left, James and Johnny unsummoned their guardian spirits then made their way to the west wing of the academy. From the Great Western Hall, they climbed a set of steps to the topmost floor, which was a roofless garden carpeted in lush green grass with two sets of wide stone steps that led to a manna well at top western end of the floor. This was one of the open places in the castle where students practiced conjuration spells, and today there were a few younger students lounging about waiting for class to start.

"Johnny, there are two types of fear in this world," began James, still amused, as he put down his bag against the side of the manna well, " rational and irrational. Being afraid of all girls --- even those whom you know are alright, like my sister --- is an irrational fear."

Johnny placed his bag besides James. "I just feel anxious around them, is all." he said absentmindedly pulling grass. He sighed. "I still cannot get over the humiliations I suffered as a child under my older sisters."

James made a face. Johnny was the youngest of ten children, all of which were girls except for himself, and oh how they teased and bullied him even until now. "Want to stay over at the flying castle?" suggested James.

"Oh, I would quite love that!" smiled Johnny brightening up immediately. "I shall inform my parents the moment we have free time."

When the bells signaling the start of classes rang, the two stood in rapt attention by the side of the well while the younger students lounging about seated themselves on the grass in front of them. A few minutes passed where nothing happened except for exchange of quiet greetings between the students, James, and Johnny --- who instantly became awkward again when a girl said good morning to him.

Then there was a whoosh of wind and a shadow of a great bird streaked across the sky. Some of the students, "ooh-ed" and "aaahh-ed", pointing up excitedly as a giant eagle ridden by an austere looking man with long red hair landed in a gust of wind beside the well.

"Good morning students!" boomed the man.

"Morning, Professor Magnus!" said the students. James smirked as the professor dismounted. Despite his stern expression, their master loved to show off.

"Welcome to the intermediate level of Conjuration. Last term you mastered the basic summoning spells used in everyday life, this term you will be learning how to summon your guardian spirits," and he gave the giant eagle a pat, " and elementals. He drew out his wand. "From the common will o' wisp ---"

He gave a wave and four floating fireballs the size of apples appeared from a tiny cloud of smoke.

" --- to the weakest class of warbeasts." another wave and a pair of dogs with smoking nostrils appeared.

There was a murmur of surprise among the class. Warbeast Summoning was a very complex bit magic, where messing up the incantation or the spell circle can lead to accidentally summoning a monster or evil spirit. As such, it was something only attempted when a student was already an apprentice.

"As you all should know by now, a dragon has appeared and destroyed Paroosia. The king is calling all able bodied witches and wizards to aid their homeland. Learning how to summon at least the weakest classes of warbeasts is now mandatory for sixth years." explained Professor Magnus. "But don't worry, we'll be tackling those last. Now, let's begin our class."

-Renee Pendragon-

Class has started a few minutes ago, with the seven students (including Renee) in the classroom muttering to each other. Pamela Grandiflorus came in the room with a slam on the sliding door, making her students jump in fright. The blonde woman looked at each one of her pupils, eyeing them down as if to see if they have what it takes.

Of what? Renee does not know...

"Hello students. First off: Congratulations on advancing from gardening to real herbalogy." Her voice was firm and swift like a whip that cracked on the floor. Her young looks does not fit with the sassy tone Renee can hear. Then again, she has been known as the 'Harshest but honest herbalist.' Professor Grandiflorus walked in, passing by all the students to reach to a cabinet and opened it, looking for something. "Since we have a dragon within our midst, most citizens will rely more on us than ever. With the medical practices that I will teach you, I'm sure you'll be able to help people without the use of magic. While it's important, magic can be draining."

Renee can see she took out two items: an already lit lantern and ...is that a small woven bag?

"So with the knowledge I will pass onto you, my students, can do feats such as this."

Professor Grandiflorus dropped the bag in the flames, turning it a lime green. Renee flinched back when her professor tossed the lantern up and through one of the open windows, her classmates leans over to watch what would happen. Seconds later, a loud and bright explosion happened from above and Grandiflorus looked at them, grinning a bit. "Yes, students. You can use herbs as a tool to defend yourselves if you know how. Thanks to the dragon and it's creatures lurking around, the school asked me to teach not just medical practices; They asked me to teach offensive practices as well."

"That was a mixture: 5 Deku, 5 Piko, and a teaspoon of dried Sparkweed to add the explosive power. The explosive will spread and will paralyze anyone who's nearby..."

Then she frowned at them, her red eyes steeled over. "Well? Write it down! Class has started and we don't have all day!"

After her lecture on certain plants that can do smokescreens and venomous scents, the professor clapped her hands to grab her class' attention. "Alright, since you now have an idea of what I'm about to assign, I'll explain. Create a antidote and it's poison. Now it doesn't have to be grand nor dangerous! It can be something silly and simple like changing a color or how to give a headache. You can start on it now..." With that, the professor opened the door to the greenhouse and Renee went in first, her wings flapping excitedly as she stared at one specific plant...

"Sorcerer's Academy, Kingsbury "

When Conjuration class ended, James and Johnny were putting out the few small fires started by the handful of will o' wisps that the students were able to summon.

"Apah, apah!" spouted one wisp, gleefully setting James' robe on fire before he stomped the flames out and unsummoned the little fire elemental that tried to float away from him.

It was one thing to summon a creature, and another achievement entirely to have it obey you. James remembered the first time he summoned Sasha. The spectral owl had been quite aloof to him and didn't like being summoned, but didn't like being sent back either.

"James, Johnny, stay awhile." said Professor Magnus. "I'm going to teach you how to summon a warbeast."

"Yes, master." said the two and continued rounding up the last of the wisps.

"You reckon we'll be drawn up into the army?" Johhny asked James.

"Probably." said James grimly. "If it's a royal decree from the King, then we have no choice. Which kind of elemental do you think would be best?"

"Water." said Johnny immediately. "Though I have heard rumors that the dragon is so massive it would take all the waters of a lake to put its flames out."

"Those rumors aren't far off." said James and he gave his friend a quick summary of what happened to him and his family during the Spring Festival in Paroosia, but left the part of Renee's involvement with the manna tree and the dragon out.

"Blimey, that must have been quite an ordeal." said Johnny when James finished and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "You alright, mate?"

"No." said James. "I miss my parents, Rhea, Markl . . . even the Witch of the Waste . . . But Sen, Seth, and Renee are doing alright. The twins left school and started their own guild. Now they have a military contract to develop their marshmallow bomb."

"Blimey."

"Yeah. They really stepped up." James stood awhile in thought. "I've got to step up too. For that I don't mind learning how to summon a warbeast and joining the army even though I don't like violence. If I can protect my family then it's good."

After the last will o' wisp had been unsummoned, Professor Magnus called the two to a clearing in the garden to observe him as he conjured a warbeast.

"Warbeasts are one of the most dangerous creatures you can conjure." he said pacing the clearing. " Like most summons, you must tame it first and the more powerful it is compared to you, the less likely it is to follow orders. And so as we begin I'd like you both to summon your guardian spirits to protect you."

There were two puffs of cloud as Frey the stag and Butters the giant ram appeared at James and Johnny's side.

"Pay close attention --- Vigis lethodar korilath vi jalaran." said Professor Magnus casually. There was no puff of cloud at the end of the incantation, instead a huge, barely glowing spell circle appeared a few feet in the air in front of him and out stepped a giant frosted leg as thick as a tree followed by a pair of sturdy brown tusks, then a wooly trunk, and finally the tough head of a blue and red furred wooly mammoth appeared followed by the rest of its body.

"Why this fellow's magnificently fluffy." said Johnny in awe. Beside him Butters snorted as though it wasn't impressed and shook itself so that the ram appeared more fluffier than usual.

"This is Leyla, an ice elemental." said Proffessor Magnus and strode forward to pet the trunk of the mammoth. It seemed quite a docile creature and not at all dangerous like the professor had cautioned earlier. "Who can tell me what kind of creature she is?"

"A Gammoth." said James, "Summoned from the realm of Niflheim."

"Very good. In war Gammoths haul heavy siege engines or are used to batter down fortified gates. See the tough forehead? That part of the Gammoth is highly resistant to magic, but needs to be filed every now and then because it can grow to block their frontal vision. As your homework before classes resume this lunch time, I want you to research the weakest types of warbeasts and pick one to practice summoning later today . . . and I advise you to pick wisely. When I first summoned Leyla, she destroyed my house, so pick a war beast you can subdue."

"Yes, master." said James and Johnny.

And with that, they were dismissed. The two grabbed their bags and left the roofless garden and headed straight down to the mess hall for a quick lunch talking all the while about the kind of creatures that would be the most useful to them.

-Renee Pendragon-

Renee grinned like a loon as she watched her classmates leaning on the table, their faces turned red as if they were drunk. A white and thin stick hanged on their mouths. "I used a Sukebind to help with the pain and Atlelas, White hallows, and a bit of Cambylictus tree to heal unnatural wounds like burns, paralysis, poisons, etc. Made it as a lollipop so it wouldn't overpower the patient."

Professor Grandiflorus clapped once, smiling a bit as she got closer to the poisonous tea the winged teen made. "Very good...Never thought to use Ruke fruit to help sweeten the tea when it's poisoned by wolf-bane."

"A happy accident. I thought it would be useful." Renee tried giving bitter medicine to the twins, but they always avoided it until a ruke fruit fell and into her medicine.

The professor nodded. "Very good class! I'm impressed with your work and time ethnics. Next class, we will be making pumpkin juice that can mend broken bones and how to avoid certain types of trees." With that, she dismissed the class. Renee walked out of the room and into the hallway where she can hear a loud clip-clop sound.

"R-Ren! Wait!"

Renee turned her head and smiled, her wings fluttering in joy. "Echo! It's good to see you again."

"It's good to see you safe! I heard of what happened to Paroosia, with the dragon and all. How are you?" Echo asked, worried about the Pendragon teen. The red-head fawn and Renee met five years ago when one of the pots that hangs from Echo's antlers hit behind Renee's head and they stayed as friends ever since. Though they studied the same subject, Echo wants to stay as a botanist while Renee wants to be a Herbalist.

"I'm...okay, I guess. We lost our parents, Markl, and the witch of the waste...."

"Oh no...That's terrible." Renee nodded in agreement, feeling the after affects of taking white hallows alone and tries to wake up. It would not be good if she fell asleep. The pair walked to the mess hall, talking about what's happened in their families during their break from school.

"Sorcerer's Academy, Kingsbury "

The mess hall of the Sorcerer's Academy had an enchantment on its ceiling similar to James' room. It mirrored the sunny sky outside which was a clear periwinkle blue patched with feathery wispy clouds today.

There were many wooden tables that could seat twelve people. All around students were coming in and the air was droning with the sound of chatter, laughter, and occasional horse playing.

They helped themselves to the food which magically appeared in a buffet table set in the middle of the hall, which included big warm bowls of mushroom soup, baked potato topped with bacon bits, a salad of semi-sweet pickled carrots mixed with greens, crispy watermelon, pungent pizza with a semi crispy crust that had the right amount of chewy, meat and cheese pies topped with white cheese, ground lamb, and sausage. There were also pitchers of pulpy orange and mango juice, and jugs of cold water.

Johnny scooped generous helpings of everything into his plate --- except for the pie topped with lamb --- seated himself at a table facing one of the gardens outside and ate with much gusto. James on the other hand did not take anything yet and just sat beside him looking at his home-made lunch: a grilled chicken parmesan sandwich.

The twins had made his lunch, probably as a thank you for putting up the crates, but then James wasn't too sure if nothing strange was in here. Last year after eating a doughnut from them that he thought was made by their mother, he stated hiccupping bubbles and floating upside down.

"Won't you have some crisps or biscuits, James?" asked Johnny wondering why James was hesitating.

"Mmm . . . " said James uncertainly. He poked the sandwich with his wand, nothing happened. "Get ready to call the nurse." he warned Johnny and took a daring bite.

" . . . Oh, I understand, that must be . . . from your brothers . . . " said Johnny watching James closely with cautious anticipation as if he might suddenly start sprouting feathers.

Nothing happened. James chewed . . . nothing happened. Then swallowed . . . nothing happened.

"Huh, I guess this sandwich is normal." said James surprised and munched on with lunch. Some guys passing behind him laughed, but he seemed to think that they weren't laughing at him. Unbeknownst James, the words:

If you can say these four words fast out loud without getting tongue tied, you are a genius:
1. Eye

2. Yam

3. Stew

4. Peed

had appeared in glowing orange letters on the back of his robes.

When Renee passed by with her friend, James gave her a nod when he caught her eye and mouthed, 'Might go home late today, so just go home ahead.'

Renee practically cooed when she noticed the bacon bits on the baked potato, immediately grabbing two in her plate along with pizza, and a bunch of sausages. The white-haired teen served herself some mango juice too, feeling her stomach growl in hunger. Her friend laughed, grabbing the dishes that didn't have meat in them and passed her bacon bits onto Renee's plate. "I see you're eating more meat than usual."

"Yea, ever since my transformation, I've been craving meat more lately...it's rather odd." Renee shrugged, passing by James and saw him mouth her something. She nodded in understanding and mouthed 'Okay!'. Then she heard her friend's questioning tone.

"Um...Renee...why does your brother have that on his robe?"

"Huh?" The winged teen turned to see what Echo meant and covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. The twins did it again...Must have been that lunch bag that they gave him this morning. She has been wondering why her younger siblings hasn't packed her lunch...and now she knows.

"Echo, take my lunch and go find us a table. I'll be there in a minute." It's going to be difficult, talking to her brother when she didn't want to laugh at him...but honestly she couldn't resist a giggle or two or four. Renee walked over to where James and Johnny sat, tapping his shoulder and smiled brightly at him. Her wings trembling and fluttering as if it's trying to stay still. "James, mind if I wash your robe? It'll be c-clean an-and go-good as ne-w-!"

She giggled in her sentence, unable to keep a straight face. "Please? You'll th-th-thank me later o-once you realize why." Normally Renee would let the pranks go on, but not on their first day of school. 'Sorry Seth, Sen.' She thought humorously.

James' brow raised in curiosity to this giggling request out of the blue, then his eyes narrowed in suspicion. Immediately he looked at the front of his robes, then checked his sleeves, then finally took it off to look at the back.

"Augh! I knew it!" he yelled irritated, startling some students eating around the same table. When they saw it was James they just shrugged and laughed like it was normal. The twins' mischief was legendary around here and their older brother was one of their favorite victims apart from teachers, bullies, and their friends. "Those two . . . wait . . ."

The mark was disappearing. Instead it reappeared on the back of the white long sleeved shirt he wore underneath his robes. "Renee, is it on my skin too?" asked James gesturing for his sister to peek down his collar and check his back. It wasn't on James' skin. It seems that the glowing orange words appeared on whatever outermost cloth that covered his back.

"Did they expect I'd go around school without a top?" he said to no one in particular.

Johnny laughed. "It's not as horrible as it sounds, mate. If the nurse or the teachers have to give this enchantment a big welly before it comes off, you're better off half stark. We've got homework to do before our master's next class."

"It is unbefitting of the eldest Pendragon to walk around the Sorcerer's Academy half naked." said James stiffly.

"It's more unbefitting to be made a fool. 'Sides, your form's all right and there are other warlocks without their tops --- look at the druids, the centaurs, and the shape shifters."

It's true. Those witches and wizards in school who were close to beast and nature wore simpler garments and most of the boys didn't wear tops since it would cover their tribal tattoos, which were marks of honor and status among their circle.

Renee snorted before covering her mouth and trying to hold her laughter in. Oh Merlin, this was difficult. She peaked in his shirt, seeing nothing on his back. "No James, I don't see any words on your skin." She giggled then yawned quietly, shaking her head to wake up. "I guess so James. It only appears on your clothes, not your skin."

The winged teen nodded in agreement with Johnny. "He's right, big brother. I mean, Echo's dad doesn't like wearing clothes and tends to only wear shorts." He was very fuzzy, even within his race, and the fur on their legs and back tend to feel uncomfortable when they wear clothes...or well, according to Echo's father anyways. Renee blinked away the drowsiness, commenting on his form. "Besides, you can look epic being half naked...I guess." She felt weird saying that. She doesn't mind complimenting others and all, but it's about his brother's form. It's a very awkward thing to compliment when you're siblings.

"I appreciate a guy's form."

Renee jumped in fright, not expecting her friend to come by. "Ah! Echo! Do-don't do that!" She scolded lightly, before raising an eyebrow at her red-haired friend. Why did say that? What? Did she like her brother or something? That's an odd thought...She pondered on that until she saw Echo's bright green eyes looking at Johnny and quickly looked away. Is that...She's blushing?! Wait-! Wait-! Wait-! So why did she say that if she has a crush on James' friend...unless it's a hint that she wants to see his form too???

Renee groaned quietly, her head hurting from even thinking that. Okay, so her friend is crushing on Johnny, the warlock who's afraid of women...That's....worrisome. She prayed for her friend, once she realizes what happens when a girl talks with him. "Right~ So James, what are going to do? Considering it's an enchantment and you just ate it, I'm guessing. It's not going to come off your clothes anytime soon..."

James opened his mouth to reply, but then Johnny choked in the middle of drinking a glass of mango juice.

His face was as red as a shiny tomato as he coughed, spluttering, "Er . . erm . . . th-that is . . ." and averted his gaze from Echo and busied cleaning the spilled juice from his colorful frock. He was clearly panicking inside and did not notice he was using his blue hat to clean it up instead of the napkin in front of him.

James looked between Echo and his friend amused again and the light of something akin to the mischievousness of the twins twinkled in his eye. He turned back to Renee. "Unfortunately, you're right. Guess I'm going to have to go around school without my robe later. Johnny, let's hurry it up, we only have fifty minutes left before the next class."

"C-can we go now?" pleaded Johnny, tugging on his robe.

"Yeah." said James chuckling. "Oh, and if we're taking about forms ----" he suddenly yanked up the back of Johnny's clothes as his friend stood up from the table. "This guy isn't so bad." he grinned at Echo.

For a split second, the lifted clothes partially revealed a pale waist that was neither skinny nor chubby, but lean enough to softly mark the abs gracefully. And poking out from the back of his pants was the white tuft of a sheep's tail.

" James, you barmy bugger!" exclaimed Johnny, pushing his clothes down immediately and punching James on the shoulder. James laughed with his arms raised in surrender as Johnny's face went from bright tomato red to flushing scarlet.

Renee squinted her eyes, not believing her brother accepting this whole situation that easily. So when James pulled up Johnny's clothes and revealing his back and fluffy tail...it caught her off guard. Her wings quickly spread open in her surprise, blinking rapidly. Well then....

The winged teen looked over to her friend, staring in disbelief when Echo's face turned a shade darker than her hair. She looked like a deer in headlights with her eyes wide like that, staring at Johnny as he and James talked. Renee waved a hand in front of Echo's face, trying to get a reaction, but nothing happened. She rolled her eyes. Oh great, James broke Echo...

Having a great idea to snap her out of it ( and blames on the twins' influence on her), Renee went behind her and pushed her hard. The poor fawn yelped as she stumbled towards the two warlocks and bumped into Johnny's back, steadying herself before realizing who she's leaning on.  Echo jumped back a bit, waving her hands rapidly as she stuttered, blushing redder.

"I-I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to land on you! I'm really sorry!Beinghonestthough,Ithinkyouhaveaniceformandshouldshowitoffmoreoften! No-notsayingyoushouldjustbecauseIsuggestit! Imean!Iwon'tbetheonlyonewhowouldappreciateyourformtoo,butit'syourchoiceand-! And-!"

Holy Merlin...her friend is too honest right now. Renee knew when Echo's flustered, she tends to blend her words together and talk quickly, but this is the fastest she ever heard. The white-haired teen shook her head, her wings fluttering from her amusement. "Echo...Echo! I think you said enough..."

"But! But-! I-! You-? Eep!" Echo cupped her face with her hands, the pots on her antlers jiggled and hit each other from the movement. Renee simply giggled and looked up to see the two warlocks' reactions.

Johnny didn't speak, he seemed unable to. He was paralyzed all half curled up leaning on the table. Many students were looking their way now very entertained. Perhaps James went too far as he started to look guilty and poked his friend.

"Library?" he suggested.

Johhny nodded his head numbly and without looking at anyone, got up slowly, went around the table to the other side and made his way shaking out of the mess hall.

"You think I went to far?" James asked his sister, taking off his robe and his shirt. In reality he had not planned to take off his top, but to be fair to his friend who's probably angry at him right now, James decided to really go around school half stark. He had pale skin just like Johnny, but was skinny, almost gangly because he was tall, but at least he had a broad back.

And he stood there with dignity.

Renee winced when she realized he might be angry and her wings wilted. When her friend quickly hid behind her, not revealing her face at all when she did, the white-haired teen knew she messed up too. Sighing, she patted her friend's head that's leaning on her shoulder. It's sort of funny to think that Echo's leaning on Renee since she's taller then winged teen.

"I know we both went too far..." She answered, not caring much when her brother striped. The younger Pendragon just continued to stare at the direction Johnny took and frowned. Renee should apologize to him and Echo...but how, since she doubts that he'll even say hi to her anymore...

"Hey, James...What's Johnny's favorite food? I want to make some as an apology lunch box for him..." Renee asked quietly, looking at her half naked brother and frowned sadly. Guilt pierced right through her heart the more she thought about it...

"I'll make some for you too, if you want Echo..." She felt a nod and sighed. "I'm sorry for pushing you..."

All she can hear is Echo's mumbles of embarrassment.
