"I can control animals, make them do whatever I want. I can also understand and talk to them, and vice versa."
Sam grinned, "That sounds like fun, " he said. he had always liked animals, and he had seen all manner of rare and hard to find creatures in his travels of the globe. They usually seemed to like him, relatively well, although nothing special. To talk to then, and to understand them, though, sounds pretty great, although he wouldn't give up his power for the world.
"It's not a bad power, you see, it's kinda cool even. I just wish it didn't have...manifested so soon. Though I hate to admit that it might have saved my life. It's... Complicated."
"Complicated?" Sam asked, "Hey, you know you can trust me right, I wont tell anyone if you want to tell me." He was telling the truth, there were few things Sam stood by with much passion, but keeping promises was always one of them. He watched, somewhat concerned, as she visibly picked up the courage to continue.
"When I was a kid, 5 years old to be exact, me and my family were at the beach in Recife, a Brazilian city, but we were swimming at the dangerous part of the beach. And then a shark appeared, I couldn't move so I stayed there, watching it approach me. I screamed. And it stopped. It said..."Hi. I'm sorry, I didn't want to scare you." And then it was gone. After that I started understanding every animal, even insects! They would talk to me, so I would talk to them. It was the most normal thing to me. Apparently, the others kids didn't think the same thing."
Sam nodded with what he hoped was a sympathetic and understanding expression.
"When I was 11, these...boys from my school... T-they were holding.... They were holding Ed, a stray cat, but my best friend. And...and... They... They killed him!"
"Wow, that sounds, uh, really rough, " Sam said. It really did, to have your best friend, even if they were a cat, killed in front of you, would be horrible, he couldn't imagine what it would be like. Sam glanced around the room to see if anyone was listening as her voice became loud, but nobody seemed to be listening. "Hey, hey, look, uh, its ok, ok, don't worry about it." Sam wasn't very good at being comforting, or at least he didn't think he was, but it looked like Raph was revealing a lot right now, so he did his best.
"Sorry 'bout that."
"No, no, not at all, it's fine, just so long as you're ok." Sam hoped he didn't sound weird. "If you want, you can carry on, although I will understand if you don't."
"Anyway, I don't remember much of what happened next. But I remember my hate being passed on to cats and insects and... I'm pretty sure that was the first time that I had controlled animals, not just talked to them. I'm not pretty sure in what theory it fits though. Maybe I'm just special?"
Sam smiled in response, although something seemed a bit wrong, as though she was holding something back. It didn't really matter, Sam thought, she would tell him if she wanted to, it wasn't his place to pry.
"Hmm, yeah, I'm not sure what that category that would fit in. Uh, maybe contact with the Otherworld, like maybe it was like a magical shark or, uh, something. " Wow, that sounded stupid, way to go, Sam. "Anyway, I guess there isn't really any way to know for sure."
