Haven Falls

A Small Town Slice-of-Life

Drugstore Houses

Garrett Kato

  • The hidden gem...

    ...

Haven Falls, North Dakota -- once a huge, bubbling city full of activity, that has definitely seen better days. Despite having fallen out of its glory days, Haven Falls still boasts a population of around 15,000. It's now become sort of a hidden gem, with small towns peppering the dense wilderness around it.

Nestled on the edge of Crystal Lake, with the beautiful Haven Falls -- for which the town was so aptly named after -- overlooking it, there's plenty to do. As... long as you enjoy being outdoors -- or partaking in a handful of different activities with the businesses that are still struggling to hold on. Of course, the teens of the area have found their own ways to make fun in the middle of nowhere. Parties, naturally, being at the top of the agenda.

    ------------

In case you couldn't tell, Haven Falls will be a small town, high school, slice of life roleplay.

However, I am hoping to do things a little bit different. I've always wanted a roleplay where the characters grew and aged, but I've never been able to see a roleplay make it past Season 1. So... the goal here is to do just that. Make it past that first year.

So the roleplay will be following a Seasons format. What this means is that (much like a television show), there will be a series of "episodes" or "skips" that will take place throughout the school year. Once we reach the end of those, we'll do a few month skip to a new year, and then start the second season from there.

Right now, I'm thinking the total number of skips (or scenes) will be around 10-12. Of course, this will be open for editing if there's other scenes that the roleplayers want.

ABOUT THE ROLEPLAY
So the biggest, probably most different part of this roleplay will be the character creation. As such, I've outlined the rules that I plan to have surrounding the characters. And yes, some of this can definitely be bent -- just talk with me! I'm not a huge stickler with the rules, as long as we can work out something that makes sense. So, without further ado:

• Characters do NOT have to be from the school. They could be from a different school, temporarily visiting, whatever floats your boat.

• The (majority) of characters will be between the ages of 14-18 since this the main setting for this is high school. At least for the first season. Yes, I will allow some exceptions to this for some side characters if wanted -- just DM me.

• You will be able to start off with a max of three characters. Once the first skip starts, you will NOT be able to add new characters until later into the roleplay, even if you have not yet met your limit.

• There will be set skips where you may introduce new characters or drop characters. I want to try and make it so that everyone can get to know the entire cast before new characters are added.

• I encourage you to try and hold out and drop any characters you might not be feeling at the end of the season. That way, no one is left high and dry with plots!

• Characters that are in every skip will be considered main characters. However, side characters will also be allowed. These may be characters that only show up for a few skips, at certain scenes throughout, or just appear for plot arcs.

RULES
1) Literacy. I ask for a minimum of 2-3 paragraphs that are at least four-five lines each. Obviously if you can't reach this every time, that's perfectly okay -- it happens, and we all have bad muse, or it's just the kind of interaction that does better with shorter, more rapid-fire responses. That's fine. However, I do ask for this as a general minimum.

2) Due to mature themes, we ask that all writers are at least 18 years old.

3) You will be expected to write at least one post per active character every week. Of course, if something in life comes up and you're unable to do so, just reach out and let me know. I'm fine with members going on break as long as they need -- just let me know!

4) Keep your OOC drama to a minimum. Or better yet, non-existent. If you're uncomfortable with someone or have any kind of issues, my DMs are always open, so feel free to message me with any concerns.

5) We will be using a Discord server for OOC. If you're interested, please just post below, and I'll make sure to send you a link to said server. Hope to see you there!

There were only ever around three thoughts bouncing around in Drake's head at any given time. And usually, at least one of them was the same at all times.

Man, these pants are uncomfortable. He thought to himself, as he shifted on the bench. Despite being in football for already a few years, he'd never get used to the pants. Or maybe it was just that everything about this situation felt off. He'd been in football before. He'd sat here before. He'd done all of this before.

But something about it this year felt off.

It probably had to do with the fact that his brother, Mason, was no longer down here playing with him. Instead, he was up in the stands with his girlfriend and baby. Drake had already spotted him in the crowd, and given him a big wave. It was nice to see his brother again -- because since he'd moved out and left Drake at home alone, they hadn't gotten to hangout much.

God, were these games always this boring? was his second thought. Likely due to the fact that when Drake wasn't actively involved, actively moving, he got twitchy and he got bored. He was already jittery, kind of losing himself in the moment as his leg bounced up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down--

Oh look, there was a bug in the grass. Moth maybe? Huh, weird to see them out this time of year--

Man, I could use a joint.

And there was the single, reoccurring thought of Drake's at any one moment. He was always, without fail, itching for a hit of something. Generally, his choice of poison was weed, but it also tended to vary... but not here at the football game, at school. He didn't want to get expelled, after all.

(Expulsion had never, and would never, be a worry that occurred to him.)

Standing up from the bench, he made up some excuse about having to go to the bathroom, and then he slipped out. 'Course, his path of getting the hell outta there took him right through the main group of people, and right near the concession stand, where he was briefly brought ot a halt by throngs of people. He huffed, growing impatient, when outta the corner of his wee little eye, something caught his attention.

Well, less something, and more someone.

"Hey," he called, as he pushed his way through the crowd, easily shoving aside a couple people until he got over to her side. A lopsided grin crossed his face. "Ines, right? I never got your number."

You see, they'd met one starry night, on a rooftop, getting high. She'd started speakin' gibberish (it was French), and he'd had the time of his life. And Drake was the kind of person that liked to keep the people that made him feel like that around.

The more party people around him, the less time he had to be alone.

Like always, Dahlia had started her evening with Alexandra. The newest addition to their little duo was Claudia Jean -- an addition that she had objected to at first, although that was all in the past. Claudia Jean had fit in with the other two girls like she'd always been a part of their little duo, which was fantastic.

At least she'd have someone around after Alexandra graduated, you know?

Fast forwarding past all the boring gossip of three teen girls getting ready for a football game, they arrived via Alexandra's car. Naturally, she stuck to her friends' sides as they entered the game and headed towards the rest of the cheerleaders. Lia was already decked out in her cheer uniform, which she typically kept at Alexa's house for safe keeping.

She didn't really trust the stuff she cared about at her parents' house.

Brushing a loose lock of hair over her ear, Tavon caught her attention out of the corner of her eye. She was... kind of surprised to see him here. She hesitated briefly, stuck between continuing on with Alexandra and Claudia Jean, or going over to say hi to him just... real quick.

"I'll catch up with you guys," she said quickly to her friends, giving them a brief smile, before she broke away from them. And once they were more or less out of sight, Lia headed over in his direction.

"Hey," Dahlia greeted him with a quick smile. "Surprised to see you here. Did you finally come to cheer me on?" she teased.

The last first game of Connor's high school football career was a bittersweet moment. Or, at least, it should've been -- in theory. If he'd... had any reservations about growing up and graduating, but Connor had spent the last year or so counting down the days until he could live the middle of nowhere, North Dakota.

There were a few universities that he had in mind -- all of which involved cities that were easily ten times the size of Haven Falls. Sure, he should've been somewhat nervous about what the future would bring him, but he... wasn't. There was really nothing holding him back here anymore. Because he'd graduate, and pick whatever college him and Alexandra decided on.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, he'd heard it all before. How stupid it was to plan one's future around a high school relationship, and Connor knew how stupid it as to utter the same phrase that every high school couple insistent on beating the odds uttered.

"Yeah, but we're different."

There wasn't really anything setting them apart, aside from a year's long relationship that was easier than anything he'd tried in the past.

Unfortunately, he hadn't made it to the last game of the season with his girlfriend. Instead, he'd arrived with his little sister, Li Mei. They'd arrived a bit before the game was set to start, but it was already packed.

As they exited the car, his bag thrown lazily over his shoulder, Connor came around the car to Li Mei's side.

"Any idea where Byron is?" he asked casually, as he glanced down in her direction.

Addison Lee

the optimist

The excitement ran through Addison as she was practically skipping down the street. She had to spend so much time simply arguing with her parents about going to Lianas to get ready for the first football game. Addison's parents never found games important for her to attend to, actually they found it as a distraction and wanted her not to be in any part of this ‘high school nonsense’. And last year she didn't get that chance to see a single game or even go to homecoming, she had been locked up in her room with nowhere to go besides scrolling through instagram and seeing everyone else having fun.

However, this year was different. She was a year older, she kept her grades as straight A’s last year and after a decently convincing argument they accepted. Her father claimed this was a one time thing but she knew how she could get herself back out for the next games or even for homecoming. This year was going to be different and this year was going to be the best of her whole life. She knew she'd look back at these moments in highschool and forever hold them close or maybe that was just her sentimental self speaking.

She knocked on her best friend's door, this was her first time seeing Liana since freshman year and she was excited to finally catch up and see her best friend once again, and later on Katherine was also supposed to show another one of their little friend group that she held close to her. Once the door squeaked open, Addison jumped up with a huge smile “BOO!” she said with laughter, before Liana even had a chance to register anything that had happened the girls arms wrapped around her. “I missed you so much it's been so long!” she squealed. Addison tended to be a bit of a handful, but she always meant good in her actions.

    the fuck you want?

Tavon desired to be at the football game as much as sticking his dick through a cheese grater.
They weren’t even that good. Who, on this earth, loved observing kids that sucked ass, ran around acting like they were tough shit. Almost sounded like a pedo’s fantasy. Guess that’s why so many coaches have been arrested doing precisely that.

Fucking senseless, but he was broadly irritated. He came here because he, and his old man were arguing about Tavon joining the military. He anticipated he was gonna knock his old man out if he stuck around that place. He’d just chill here and sleep wherever. Wouldn’t be the foremost time he slept somewhere outside. Maybe his conventional spot on the boundaries of the township.

He typically liked to ostracize himself after shit went down. He’ll get into a fight and decompress by himself.

It’s just how he repaired himself. Uniformly his in-ear beat earbuds had been gracing his ears. Wearing a gray sweatshirt, and jeans. Vibing to a classic
Gangsta’s Paradise
by
Coolio
, the youth had been scattered across the bench.

Lying there, his 6’ 3” defined frame expanded out. Most individuals left Tavon alone. He has constructed a generic notoriety of someone you don’t fuck with. His overall blunt temperament, he wasn’t exactly the most popular character amongst the schoolkids.
He didn’t fuck around, either put the fuck up, or shut up. It was that Detroit state of mind.

Tavon always felt he was comparably beyond the general demeanor of a typical high school teenager. These grandeur ideas of popularity were relatively useless because you’ll never see these people again, after high school. The sex, get over yourself bruh, it’s high school. All Tavon wanted was the company of one particular individual, that’s it. Nothing beyond that, that particular person's presence calmed his demons. Everyone else can get fucked, quite plainly. Besides his few friends, which could be marked on one hand.

Tavon felt like a man, among boys.

His biggest problem is the youth was blunt, and couldn’t quite camouflage that evidence. Irrelevant if you’re someone he cares about, or not. Speaking of which, as he laid there his hazel spheres noticed that one particular individual. Those hazel hues gazing upon Dahlia as he laid there.
The fuck was she doing coming up to me?
Sometimes Tavon wondered how he even fell for her. He couldn’t quite understand her simplicity of needing to be popular. All he could comprehend by her appearing in front of him was she needed someone’s ass beat, possibly her old man? Tavon sat up, releasing one earbud from his ear.

Blunt tones slipping from his rims
“Yea, I’m here to cheer on your cheer routine…”
God he hoped she would catch onto his sarcastic tones.
"I'd rather stick my dick through a cheese grater."
Was it bad that sometimes he wished her big bro was still here so she wouldn’t irritate him with the trivial shit? But he was jumping the gun, maybe she actually wanted to talk, in public, something she hardly ever did with Tavon.
“So… what do you need? Your dad needs his ass beat again? If not, who?”
He inquired, huffing gently as the air slipped from his rims.
“Or did you just wanna say hi?”

He was bad at this… he was happy to see her. But throughout his years he has always been that guy that you go to when you need something, to her. At least the further she got into high school the more, and more their relationship was separating. She had to realize it too. He couldn’t deny that it hurt but he’s coming to terms with it. Nonetheless Tavon cracked his neck, figuring he was about to beat someone’s ass.
What a drag
, he thought.

Li Mei sat in the front seat of Connor’s car watching the cars, trees and buildings pass them by out the window as they headed to the school. She liked car rides, she found them comforting. She liked the dull constant noise of the aircon fan, she could zone out to it. Connor had been nice enough to leave the radio off for her. They both knew the football match would be overwhelming for her. The sounds, smells, the close proximity of the seats in the stand. It was nice to have this moment of peace to regulate herself.

In her bag she had her trusty over ear headphones close at hand, should she need them. In her pocket she had a small packet of sour hard candies, which was good if she got anxious. She’d been to her brother’s football games plenty, she knew where everything was, and everything to except, and there was nothing that helped more than that.

She felt a pang of sadness at the thought of him moving far away next year, but she hoped he did. He needed it. She just hoped by the time she was old enough to join him, she had the money to do so. Her work wasn’t giving her many shifts anymore, and the ones she did have were pretty short.

They arrived with plenty of time before the game, but, as usual, there were people everywhere. She opened the passenger door, grabbing her bag and looked up at Connor who was already out of the car.

Do I know where Byron is? As if!

She shook her head “I’ll text Leo.” She stated getting up out of the car and procuring her phone from her bag.

“Hello Leo, are you and Byron here yet?”

Fine Again

Byron Sat in is car for a moment with his eyes shut tight and his head back against the leather seat. School today had been the biggest drag. School was always kind of a drag, but today was especially so. His girlfriend very clearly seemed off. Everything with her lately has been off. Whenever he tried to plan things for her, she was busy, or something came up’. When they did hang out it was fun. He could usually make her laugh, he’d try to make her feel special by bringing flowers or other little gifts. From what she said, everything was fine. Maybe it was in his head, he did have a tendency to make things of nothing.

But he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that there was always somewhere else she wanted to be. That familiar feeling from his childhood nagged at him, the feeling of never being good enough. He tried to shake it away, but there was a voice in his head constantly belittling him, calling out his insecurity and playing on his weaknesses.

What do I know about a relationship anyway?

Byron thought to himself bitterly. It was true, he hasn’t really had the best ‘model’ of what one should be. In front of their friends they must seem perfect. If there was one thing they were good at it was keeping up appearances.

Just like mum and dad

He shuddered at the unwelcome thought and started the car. He drove himself back home. His mum and dad were, thankfully, not home. Who knows where they were. Still, his heart was beating rapidly expecting his dad’s face round any corner.

He quickly headed to his dad’s bar room, where the old man spent most of his time. From the bottom of the fridge he was able to procure a few bottles of Heineken. Not his favorite but better than nothing. Back to the car he stashed the stolen goods into an esky and then into his boot. Starting her up again he raced off, just a little too fast, down to the school stadium. It was still ages before the game would start, so Leo’s truck was easy to spot. He pulled up next to him and got out. From the boot he procured his loot. Grinning at his best friend he said “Told you I’d come through with the goods!” Byron cracked a beer and offered it to Leo before getting one for himself.

Liana wandered through the living room, picking up the remnants of her brother's chaos. A half-empty soda can, a discarded hoodie on the back of the couch, and a couple of crumpled papers on the floor, his usual trail of mess before heading out the door. She rolled her eyes as she bent down to grab the hoodie, folding it neatly and tossing it onto the armrest.

"Leo, seriously?" she muttered to herself, shaking her head as she wiped a stray potato chip off the table. The front door clicked shut behind him moments earlier and now the house was quiet. She didn't mind picking up after him, though, it was familiar, a part of their routine. Still, sometimes she wished he’d clean up after himself just once.

As she moved from room to room, her thoughts drifted to the new school year. Junior year. It had always felt like such a distant milestone and yet, here she was. The thought carried a different weight than it had in the past. Freshman and sophomore years had flown by, a blur of classes, clubs, activities, and the usual high school drama, but this year felt… different.

Maybe it was because the end of high school was slowly inching closer or because she felt more responsibility now, toward herself, her friends, and even Leo in his chaotic way. She couldn’t really place it, but something in the air felt new. With Addison finally able to join her and Katherine at the football game tonight, it was the perfect way to kick off the year. This year was going to be the one where things shifted, where everything she had been working toward started to take shape.

After one last glance around the now-tidied living room, Liana turned and headed to her room to finish getting ready, thoughts of the night ahead buzzing in her mind

Liana stood in front of her mirror, carefully smoothing the wrinkles out of her skirt as she adjusted the hem. The soft hum of music played in the background. It was something chill, a playlist she used often when she wanted to focus. She looked at her reflection, pulling her hair into a neat ponytail, the perfect balance between casual and spirited for the first game of the season. The excitement of the football game was there, but it was also the first time she’d seen Addison in what felt like forever. She had gone so long without seeing her little Addy, that she couldn't wait any longer.

Liana had spent most of the afternoon tidying up her room, making sure everything was in place for their little pre-game gathering. She glanced at the time on her phone, wondering when Addison and Katherine would arrive. As she checked her phone, she finally saw Kats message about being 30 minutes late. Just as she was about to reapply her lip gloss, the sound of a knock echoed from the front door. It jolted her out of her thoughts, and she could already guess who it was.

She made her way downstairs and before she could even open the door halfway, a familiar squeal burst through the air, followed by an energetic "BOO!" as Addison practically tackled her with a hug. Liana's initial surprise quickly melted into laughter and she hugged her friend back. Though slightly awkwardly given how unexpected it was, but then she eased into it, holding onto her tightly.

“Addy, I swear, you’re like a walking ball of energy,” she teased, her smile widening as she pulled back to look at Addison. “I missed you too. It has been too long.”

Stepping aside to let Addison into the house, Liana continued, “You ready for tonight? I can't believe you finally convinced your parents to let you come. I was starting to think you’d never be able to have any of the fun.”

She glanced over her shoulder toward the hallway. "I got us snacks and everything. Kat should be here in a bit too."

S
amantha had been looking forward to the first game of the season for weeks. Finally, she could sit herself on the highest bleacher in the stadium, and get a feel of the vibe of her classmates. This would be the first view of the newer students, so she could see how they interacted with everyone else. She was relatively friendly, and loved to socialize, but football games? They were strictly for people-watching purposes only.

Damn I wonder where Robert is...
Sam wondered to herself, making her way up to her usual spot on the bleachers (which she very carefully researched to determine was the best spot) and making herself comfortable. They had planned on meeting up at the game. Robert had been there for her for years, showing up when no one else had, so he'd show up tonight, right?

It didn't take very long for her eyes to drift over to Caleb. They'd had a bit of a one-night-stand a week or so back, and she now constantly found herself thinking about him. Weird, right? After everything that happened between her parents, and then with Connor, told her relationships weren't her thing. But this felt... different. Suddenly, she had this odd longing to be around Caleb. Had that always been there? It couldn't have been...

Sam shook off the feeling, her eyes going back to the football field. She didn't do relationships, and that was that. All she needed was her soccer ball and her friends. Speaking of her friends... she still couldn't find Robi...

Stop overthinking, Sam... he's coming. She thought to herself. She decided to focus on other things... like people-watching. She looked around the bleachers. Not everyone was there yet, but there were still people to watch. Maybe this would be the year Sam would socialize with people outside of Robert. Where was that new kid Messiah she'd been texting? Or that other girl... Addison?

"No, not him," Dahlia answered absently. It had been... what, a couple days she'd actually returned home? Alexa had designated an entire drawer to Lia's belongings, so it wasn't as if she ever really needed to return to home base, except to let her parents know that she was still alive.

They didn't seem to ever fully notice that she'd been gone, prancing around town. Although, her mom did check in with her somewhat regularly over text -- but in Dahlia's young mind, that meant basically nothing.

Tucking a loose strand of light brown hair behind her ear, Dahlia took a seat about a couple of feet down the bench from him. The cold metal burned against her bare skin, and she shifted further forward, and slightly tilted her body away from him so it didn't totally necessarily look like she was speaking to him.

Lia did have a small list of people that she wouldn't mind watching get their asses beat, but sending Tavon after them like an attack dog felt... well, not wrong, because she would love nothing more than to do so. But surely that would draw some attention to herself and him, and that was something she didn't want more attention being drawn to than necessary.

However...

"Well, you know Bentley?" she asked, studying her nails as she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. "He was being such a dick earlier -- which like, I guess wasn't that much of a surprise? But still, like, totally uncalled for."

Not that she would ever wish anything ill to befall him.

(That was like, half a lie -- it was complicated.)

"No, I wanted to see why you were here." Lia said, pressing against her original point. "I thought games weren't really your thing, but here you are."

Ines didn’t have school spirit, she had blue raspberry slushie spirit. Hence why she chose to brave the crowds and lines formed in and around the stands and viewers that gathered to watch the Haven Falls High Bears stick it to some other tiny school and their overly enthusiastic team of hormonal dorks.

Once she’d secured the cold, sweet treat she’d had just a moment to enjoy it before her attention was drawn away from trying to find her seat again and onto someone else. Her eyes glistened in the light
“Hey, garçon canard.”
She greeted as the footballer approached her. Her lips wrapped around the straw of her slushie similarly to how she had done with the joint Drake had offered her that night at the party. It wasn’t her first one, probably not her last, but certainly a memorable one.

Well, as memorable as you could call the foggy images that lingered in her head. Mainly of course the one that had inspired her hello to him. When he had shared his enjoyment of a particular water fowl and she decided to flex her foreign language skills, one of the few things her mother had managed to pass down to her from her French Canadian heritage. Somewhere along the way she had uttered the same combination of words as she had just a moment ago.

garçon canard,

Meaning, of course,

duck boy.

“Yeah, I didn’t get a chance to give it to you, mostly because you didn’t ask for it.”
She teased between sips of her sugary ice
“But maybe if you score us some points I’ll give you another chance.”
She would probably give it to him regardless, afterall, she didn’t have much school spirit.

Addison Lee

the optimist

Addison's excitement seemed to come alight in the house as she stepped through. Shed never gone to a friends house, seemed like a lot of firsts for this new year, “I know! I didn't exactly think I'd ever be able to but I've learned never to underestimate myself or what a couple of good planned words can do.” She said as she bent down taking off her shoes, it was her own way of showing respect, walking around in shoes couldn't be anymore disrespectful.

She slipped them off her feet and placed them by the entrance of the door, as she mentioned Katherine. “Oh I thought she'd get here before me” she said before listening to Liana about the text message she sent. Addison nodded as she pulled out her phone, “I hadn't even been able to check until now, well that stinks, at least she'll be here in a matter of minutes! Besides that group project is probably having Kathrine annoyed, group projects always suck, she's probably worried sick about the work”

Addision always seemed to find excuses where she could then turn them around into big optimistic thoughts “But when she gets here we can have the whole group together again!!!” she squealed with a new found energy., “I have dreamed of this moment Liana, getting to go to my first football game with the best of friends!” she said her big blue eyes sparkling as she began following Liana to her room.

Once inside Addison removed the bag from her shoulder placing it on her bed before taking a seat on her bed, “But I might have an outfit emergency, your better than me at this whole dress up thing, I have no clue what to wear I didn't want to over dress nor did I want to underdress” The girl said as she began unpacking her small bag, pulling out all kinds of shirts one after another followed by some different pairs of jeans, and skirts and leggings, the bag wasn't even huge yet she seemed to have found a way to put her whole closet inside.

Once she'd finally gotten it all out she looked at her best friend, “I was looking for ages and eventually gave up and said Liana would get this” she gestured to the clothing on the bed now, “whole thing figured out”

It had been at least half an hour that Felix' father had banged his fist against the door, yelling at him to wake up and drag his sorry butt to school. Absolutely drained from drinking last night he'd dozed right back off and had only just snapped back into reality, so to speak. Like a proper teenager, the first thing he did after waking up was to check his phone. There was a message from his girlfriend back in San Diego. Seeing the notification used to make him smile but now it'd leave him feeling bittersweet at best.

MILLY MÉNDEZ:
Morning babes! <3 How r u?

FELIX McCLAIR:

MILLY MÉNDEZ:

Having led a relatively "straight edge" life before, Felix was far from the point of being able to hold his liquor. By no means was it his first hangover but it definitely was up there among the worst ones yet. His head was throbbing with a massive headache and his mouth felt as dry as a desert. The feeling reminded him of 'eating sand' after falling down face first while driving his dirt bike through the sand dunes in Glamis, California. A drink of water should fix it, he thought. He reached for a bottle next to his bed and took a swig which turned out to be a mistake. He could barely detangle himself from the bedsheets and run for the bathroom before throwing up. For a while he just hugged the toilet seat in case he'd be doing more yawning in technicolor.

Now assured it would be safe to get up from the bathroom floor it was time to take a nice, refreshing shower to hopefully feel like he wasn't about to flatline. After showering and drying himself of while brushing his teeth, Felix began getting dressed, hypebeast brands all the way, of course. Not that he gave a damn about showing off to the kids at school. In fact, even though he dressed such an eye-catching way, he was actually hoping to just fly under the radar and do his time.

Felix was soon wearing a red and white silky sukajan-style jacket, a t-shirt and ripped jeans, accessorizing with the gold chain and rings he would often wear. Slipping on a pair of Yeezy Boost 700 Wave Runners, which he'd nicked from a known douchebag's home during his last San Diego house party, the fit was now complete. As a final touch, he popped on a pair of Versace sunglasses to shield his poor eyes from any source of light, finally ready to leave the house.

Though he didn't feel like eating anything, Felix headed for the kitchen downstairs and grabbed a Gatorade from the fridge. He really needed something to rehydrate and to replenish the nutrients his body was sorely missing. It was now time to leave for school. Operating a vehicle while hungover wasn't exactly responsible, so his dirt bike would only receive a wistful glance from him as he walked through the garage. He'd figured some excercise and fresh air would help air out his hungover brain anyway, walking to school was a much better choice. Air Pods in, rest of the world out, and off to school it was. Blasting his ears with some bangers made the walk much more bearable, and he kind of wished it had been longer.

Strolling through horde's of people Felix made his way to the bleachers, taking a seat at a remote-ish spot. As much as he didn't care about high school sports or all of that school spirit bs, at least he'd be able to just chill for a while and suffer in peace. Using his backpack as a pillow he lied down on the bleacher, hoping to avoid any social interaction. Under different circumstances he would have just stayed home but skipping the first day at a new school wouldn't have been such a good first impression. After all, he'd already been kicked out of his previous school. Not that showing up hungover was the best way to start, either. If only he had taken painkillers with him.

Kaida Atkins

Kaida was always the first one to wake up in her family. After all, she had a clear goal in mind: olympic gold, and she was going to do everything she could to get there, and with the next Olympics being away only 4 years, there was no time to rest. Not now. Not after everything.

She glanced at her alarm. 5:00 am. Perfect timing. She got up and changed into her work-out clothes, ready for some light stretching witch she does each morning. That took about 30 minutes and after that she started getting ready for school. Junior year. Only two more years to go until she'll graduate. Kaida wasn't fully sure how to feel about that yet, so she decided not to think about it too much for the moment. After all, her training was much more important. Though school was important too.

She got the neatly folded pile of clothes she had prepared the evening before and hopped in the shower before walking downstairs to eat breakfast. By this time her parents had also woken up and her mother had already prepared breakfast for her: Greek yogurt with berries and granola. One of her favorites. They rarely spoke during the mornings, since that was the time her parents got ready for their work and were running around the house like crazy, to get everything done before rushing out of the door. That also gave Kaida the time to enjoy her morning and also check her instagram feed.

Then it was time to pack her bags to get to school. Kaida double checked if she had everything: Notebooks, pencil case, water bottle..., yes, everything was there. And everything was also in the right spot, just how she liked it. She closed her backpack as her parents came to say goodbye to her. There was one thing though. "Uhm, dad?", she started, a bit insecure about how he'll react to her question. "There's this football game at school tonight. Can I go?", she hoped her dad would say yes. She'd never been and she'd love to go there. Kaida already knew she didn't have a lot of friends, which was okay, since too many friends would be distracting, but she intended on keeping the ones she had. "I promise, I'll train three times as hard tomorrow", she pushed on, noticing her dad's hesitation. "Please?", she begged, as he still hadn't said anything. "I know you really want to", he started: "But if you want to make it to the Olympics..." "... then you need to put in 200% 150% of the time. I know", she finished his sentence for him. "That's my girl", he praised, but noticed that she was feeling pretty sad, so he added: "Tell you what, I'll get you new track shoes. The ones you really like". That did make her feel a little bit better, since she really wanted those, but she would've rather went to the game. But, her dad was right. Florence Griffith-Joyner didn't become the fastest woman on the planet with a so-far unbreakable world record by attending football games.

With that her parents said their goodbyes and it was also time for Kaida to go to school, and as always, she took the bike there. Some of the kids look at her weirdly, since they always come by car, but she didn't live too far away from school and frankly, she enjoyed her bike rides. It was different from running but still kept her active. Making sure to have her shoe laces tied exactly symmetrically, she got on her bike and started the 15 minute ride to school.

School, as always, was quite chaotic, but she got to hang out with others her age, which Kaida always enjoyed. She got to talk to her friends and learn new things. All in all, she liked school. At least more or less, because of that the day was over rather quickly and soon it was afternoon, and time for afternoon practice with her dad. She took her bike to the nearby park, so they could continue to work on her acceleration and explosive power. That way, she'd be able to start better and faster, which already helps her a lot in future races.

Kaida practiced the entire afternoon and finally came to her last task. The daily jog to enhance her endurance. Usually her father would take her bike home during that time and prepare dinner, so once she'd make it home, she'd come to a ready meal, which meant, she always did the daily jog by herself, but Kaida loved that part. It gave her time to think. She started running toward her house on the same route she always took.

But running up to her school, she could already hear the music and the people attending the game. It hadn't started yet. Despite willing herself to keep running, she slowed down a bit, to look what it looked like there. It did look like an awful lot of fun. And if she'd slip away from running for a few minutes, she could catch up later, and her father wouldn't notice that she'd been at the game for a few minutes. She shook her head no, trying to shake the temptation. It was too risky. For her home life and her future career. She started running again, but within a few steps she stopped again. This was a once in a lifetime chance - attending a football game as a junior. She wasn't going to miss that. Besides, if she ran a bit faster the rest of the way, she could catch up. She turned on her heel and walked onto the school ground. Maybe she'll even find Addison at the game and go say hi to her.

    meh~

Tavon realized promptly where she had sat. She without a doubt made it her intention of sitting where it made it seem like they weren’t talking. Was fucked up, he thought. Like a dog on the side of the street that you pet. But won’t take it home. He shook his head mildly at that recognition, with discontent, and snickered softly
“tch.”
He thought it was pretty fucked up that the girl he liked didn’t wanna even be caught in public with him. How can an individual not be conflicted by that?

Makes you wanna treat them the same way. He couldn’t even honestly believe she had any feelings towards him. Maybe she did, but he had already been starting to heal himself, accepting she didn’t. Which was fine, but again, it just hurt. But Tavon would heal from it.

He nonetheless shook his head
“You know I don’t do names, point him out. I’m not about that gossip bullshit.”
She began to describe how it should not be a surprise, and etc, that this kid was an asshole or whatever. Honestly Tavon stopped listening. He couldn’t help but smirk. He didn’t even know the dude. He wasn’t about this stupid shit.

Also, he knew that he could easily be considered an asshole. He wasn’t oblivious to that fact. Although, it was a different kind of asshole. Last night he saw a video that hit home for him.

You were born to love, but not be loved.
Born to help, but not to be helped.
Born to heal, but not be healed.

He sometimes doubted if even his own father loved him. His old man always seemed to be holding onto something that made him resent Tavon. But it was just something Tavon accepted, and lived with.

She had admitted however that she was just wondering why he was here. He thought about opening up. She more than likely was oblivious to his situation. But that wasn’t his style. He didn’t talk or tell anyone. Her older brother was the only person he legitimately spoke to about his situations. He had one particular newer friendship that was heading that way as well. But Dahlia wasn’t someone he felt he could truthfully speak with about these things.

When they were younger he’d make her laugh. Was less about
‘What do you want?’
and more about the jokes, and good times. But age, high school, and various actions have a funny way of changing people.

If the time ever came, there would be a point where Tavon wouldn’t hold back. Really let her know how he felt. Her fucked up actions, and etc. But this was the first time she talked to him in a little bit, and who knows. Maybe she was actually talking to him because she did care about him. But he’s healing, and wouldn’t allow the wound to open back up again because of one conversation. He’s only offering to help kick whomever’s ass for her older brother, not her.

Nonetheless he replied, as to why he was here.
“Don’t worry about it, nothing you really need to concern yourself with.”
He was gonna also tell her how he was seriously considering the military, and he’d be gone next year. With the constant badgering from his father, he felt maybe it was best. Also, it’d get him away from this toxic shit. Of having feelings for someone who didn’t even wanna be caught in public with you. But again, she probably was so detached from his problems that she didn’t even know that was a legitimate issue for Tavon.

“You look good in your cheer uniform”
He said, trying to come up with something to say. He wasn’t the lying type. So it felt odd, and obvious he was just trying to come up with some conversation. Dahlia seemed to love attention, but he really didn’t think she looked any better than she already had. Greatest thing about actually, truly, god honestly really having feelings for someone is they look just as good when you wake up next to them, as they do when they ‘pretty’ themselves up. Because it’s about the individual, not their appearance.

Maybe she could tell he was full of shit. But it wasn’t because she was ugly.

“When did you last talk to Willow and Reed?”
Tavon was somewhat close to Willow, they seemed to get along. But Reed was who he really connected with. His relationship with Reed of course was before he had started to like Dahlia. In fact, he still texts Reed on the regular, and off, and on with Willow.

Liana laughed softly at Addison’s boundless energy, feeling her own excitement bubbling up now that her best friend was finally here. It had been too long since they’d hung out like this and now, with the first football game of the year, everything felt like it was falling back into place.

“Good planned words, huh?” Liana teased, glancing at Addy as she slipped off her shoes and made herself at home. “I swear, you could talk your way out of anything. I don’t know how you convinced your parents, but I’m glad you did.”

As Addison mentioned Katherine, Liana pulled out her phone, double-checking the texts she'd received earlier. “Yeah, she’s probably stuck with that group project,” Liana said, rolling her eyes in sympathy. “You know how she is when she’s stressed about schoolwork. She’ll be here soon though, and once she’s here, it’s game on. We haven’t had a full group night in forever.”

She led Addison upstairs and down the hallway to her room, glancing back with a grin as Addison gushed about going to the football game. “It’s gonna be great. You’re finally free, Addy, and we’re gonna make the most of it. Trust me.”

Once inside her room, Liana turned to watch as Addison practically exploded her bag onto the bed, clothes flying out in every direction. She raised an eyebrow, laughing again. “Oh my God, you brought your whole wardrobe with you!” she exclaimed, stepping closer to help Addison sort through the piles of shirts, jeans, skirts, and leggings.

“Alright, outfit emergency, huh?” Liana said with a smirk, picking up a soft, long white skirt and holding it up for inspection. “You know, we’re going to a football game, not a fashion show, but…” she trailed off, eyeing the options scattered across the bed. “You wanna look cute but chill, right? Definitely not overdoing it, but we still want you looking amazing.”

Liana sifted through a few more pieces before pulling out a cropped blue hoodie with a heart design and holding it against Addison with a pair of high-waisted light washed jeans. “How about this? Casual, but still super cute. You’ll look like you’re effortlessly stylish, which is the goal here.” She tossed Addison a playful grin before adding, “And don’t worry, we’ll save the skirts for a better event. You’ve got plenty of time to rock those.”

She gestured to the full-length mirror across the room, stepping back to let Addison check herself out. “Go on, try it out. I’m telling you, we’ve got this whole thing figured out.”

Liana made her way to the jewelry box on her vanity, picking up a silver necklace with a heart pendant. It matched Addisons outfit perfectly. She turned to the bubbly girl and held the necklace out to her. "Here, this will go perfectly with it."

Leo hurriedly grabbed his keys from the kitchen counter, knocking over a cup in the process. The clatter echoed through the house, and he winced, waiting for the inevitable.

"Seriously, Leo?" Liana’s voice called from the living room, frustration clear in her tone.

He glanced over his shoulder, rolling his eyes as he stuffed his phone into his pocket. “Relax, I’ll clean it up later,” he mumbled back, though they both knew that was a lie. He was already halfway out the door, leaving behind the aftermath of his morning rush. Leo swung the front door open and stepped outside. The cool evening air hit him, a welcome change from the stuffy house and he felt a sense of relief. He loved his sister, but Liana’s constant nagging was a part of their routine he could do without.

As he approached his truck, he tossed his bag into the backseat before sliding into the driver’s seat. With a sigh, he turned the key, the engine roaring to life beneath him. The football game was the perfect excuse to get out of the house, away from Liana’s cleaning obsession, and into the chaos he preferred. Leo pulled out of the driveway and onto the street, blasting the radio as he drove. His mind wasn’t really on the game itself, it never was. He was more focused on hanging out with Byron. The two of them had a long history of stirring up trouble at these things and tonight would probably be no different.

He arrived at the school parking lot a little earlier than expected, pulling into a spot near the back where the trees cast long shadows over the pavement. Leaning back in his seat, Leo drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, scanning the crowd for any sign of Byron. They’d made plans to meet up before the game, Byron probably had something in mind, as usual. Leo smirked to himself, knowing whatever it was, he'd be up for it. That’s just how their friendship worked. Byron asked, Leo delivered. No questions, no hesitation.

He checked his phone for any new messages, then tossed it onto the passenger seat, tapping his foot impatiently. “C’mon, Byron,” he muttered under his breath, eyes still scanning the parking lot. He wasn’t in any rush, but the anticipation was starting to gnaw at him. This year felt different somehow. Maybe it was the weight of being a senior, or maybe it was just the usual restlessness that came with these events. Either way, Leo knew one thing for sure, tonight was going to be anything but boring. Especially with Byron in the mix.

Leo's eyes flicked to the side mirror as he spotted Byron's car pulling into the lot. A grin tugged at his lips. Finally. He sat up straighter, the tension in his shoulders easing at the sight of his best friend rolling in. Byron had that effect on him, things just felt more relaxed when he was around, even if they were up to no good.

He watched as Byron hopped out of his car and headed to the trunk, pulling out what Leo immediately recognized as an esky. Byron flashed him a grin, already cracking open a beer before Leo even had time to react.

Leo smirked, shaking his head in mock disapproval as he opened his door and stepped out of his truck. He went over to his friend taking a beer. "You're a bad influence, you know that?" he teased, popping the cap off the bottle with a quick twist and taking a swig.

The cool bitterness hit the back of his throat and Leo leaned back against the side of his truck, letting the moment sink in. The night hadn’t even started and already things felt more like their usual chaos. It was exactly what he needed.

"You look like hell, by the way," Leo said after a beat, giving Byron a sideways glance. He could always tell when something was off with his friend. Byron carried his tension in the tightness of his jaw, the way his eyes would glaze over just a bit too much like he was off in his own head. Leo had seen it before countless times. Usually, Leo didn’t need him to ask what was wrong. He knew better than to push, Byron would talk when he was ready.

Leo wasn’t exactly great with feelings either. Instead, he kicked his boot against the gravel, letting the beer do the talking for now. "Your girl still giving you shit or what?"

He took another sip, glancing back at Byron, waiting to see if he’d spill or brush it off like usual. Either way, Leo wasn’t going anywhere. Byron could be a mess, but Leo was loyal to the bone, especially when it came to his best friend. If Byron needed him, Leo would be right there, just like always. The low hum of the growing crowd in the distance mixed with the distant shouts of students arriving for the game, but Leo’s focus stayed on Byron, already anticipating how the rest of the night would unfold.

Addison Lee

the optimist

Addison observed with fascination as Liana meticulously sifted through the jumble of clothes spread out on her bed. Liana had an innate talent for putting together the perfect outfit, and Addison couldn't help but admire her best friend's effortless sense of style. In the past, Addison had been the type to throw on whatever was convenient, especially during their time at school. However, witnessing Liana's ability to effortlessly look fabulous made Addison wish she could possess even a fraction of her friend's fashion prowess.

"I told you it was a wardrobe emergency," Addison chuckled as she watched Liana navigate through the clothing chaos.

As Liana retrieved a hoodie and jeans from the pile, she held them up in front of her, casting a quick glance downward before presenting them to Addison in front of the mirror. Addison's smile widened at the sight. "Oh my gosh, I don't know what I'd do without you. You're amazing!" she exclaimed, taking the clothing from Liana's hands with sheer excitement.

Turning to Liana to express her intention to try on the outfit, Addison noticed a necklace in her friend's hands. she took the delicate accessory and examined it, a wave of affection and gratitude washed over her. She had never experienced this level of care and attention from anyone before. As an only child with a busy family, she had often longed for the kind of affection that Liana effortlessly bestowed upon her. Liana had become the sister that Addison had always yearned for.

"Thank you... thank you," Addison murmured, enveloping Liana in a warm embrace. It was her way of expressing gratitude, as words seemed inadequate to convey the depth of her feelings. "This means the world to me. I promise I won't lose it," she promised with a beaming smile. "Alright, let me go try them on."

After locating the bathroom and changing into the cropped hoodie and jeans, Addison admired her reflection in the mirror. She knew her mother would disapprove of the amount of skin revealed by the cropped top. The only reason she was allowed to wear such clothing was if she layered it with tank tops, but here she was, defying that rule in a small act of rebellion. Despite the potential consequences, she couldn't contain her widening smile. The outfit was perfect, and the necklace added the finishing touch. Stepping out of the bathroom, she eagerly sought Liana's opinion with a wide grin.

"What do you think?"

Atlas, Olivia, Claudia Jean

A high school football game. Junwoo knew what it meant, money. They were going to buy whatever drug could give them a good time. Brisk weather that gave off a cool and relaxing breeze. The youthful Korean native leaned against a nearby wall. He hadn’t known where Atlas, or Olivia were located, or if they had even arrived, but Junwoo imagined if they were nearby they’d be selling. Although he was aware they’d only be casually selling the product tonight.

Money wasn’t as high on their motivational list as it was for Junwoo. Maybe Olivia, but definitely not Atlas, Atlas would inevitably test the product as well. The kid was probably Junwoo’s biggest sore subject. His current biggest Kryptonite but also his strongest ally. He wouldn’t admit it but he cared for him. Like a brother of sorts. Just keeping him in check was extremely difficult. However Junwoo believed his friendship with Atlas was generally mutual.

Atlas always joked Junwoo was always too serious. Their profession required it. Like playing chess consistently. There wasn’t anything that Junwoo wouldn’t do to succeed at life.

His obsidian spheres gazing throughout the area. Eyes viewing upon the multiple students. Digits gently brisked across his face gently as the youth observed all the individuals that were gathering. The day was still young, and there was potential for things to go wrong. But he wouldn’t worry. The focus should be money, however as the youth continued observing the students his eyes caught one individual.

He hadn’t known her very well, maybe in passing a couple times but each time he thought she was alluringly beautiful.

Junwoo had a skillful way with words. Combined with his money he could practically achieve anything, if he talked with a person long enough. His mindset wasn’t directed towards the typical thought process of a high school student. He desired ultimate success, and to achieve that, you had to think like a successful businessman. Not a high school student.

Dress for the status and position you desire.

Adorning a casual tight fitting black button up shirt, casual obsidian pants, casual slick ebony shoes. Each step the youthful Korean took you could hear his slick ebony shoes click gently against the cement. Where was he headed? He was intending to strike up a conversation with that captivating elegant woman. Her beauty was different from the others, a sincere charm with an enticing intellect. He hadn’t realized they called it a ‘southern charm’ of sorts.

Junwoo had an enigmatic allure about himself. An intelligent savviness that exuded from his pores. Running his digits through his slick ebony hair, that always seemed to be placed perfectly around his facial features as his smooth tones slipped from his lips
“Perfect night for a football game, no?”
She was a cheerleader, that much was obvious.

“I’ve seen you occasionally in passing and figured I’d introduce myself, Junwoo Lee.”
He declared with a heart warming smile, fake, but near impossible to tell. He was standing a decent distance from the stunning woman. If she approached to shake hands, he would oblige. Otherwise he just gave a gentle affectionate smile as his obsidian hair brisked gently across his facial frame.
“Excited about the football season? I’ve gotta admit, it seems like they may be decent this year.”
He was lying, he hadn’t the slightest idea about them. His focus was on his overall success. He hadn’t cared about the football team.

Putting on again the cheerleader uniform for the first time in her senior year felt a bit bittersweet. Alexandra knew perfectly that this was the beginning of the end, that this would be the last year she was going to be cheering for the Bears of Haven Falls; as in the next year she would be wearing a completely new uniform and would be hyping up a completely new crowd under the name of her college; and not exactly because she eats, sleeps and breathes for cheer, as it was more that it was her golden ticket away from Haven Falls.

As long as she could remember, Alexandra knew that she was destined for success. The small town in the middle of nowhere that saw her grow up was just an obstacle in her life to accomplish her goals. So saying that she worked her ass off to leave Haven Falls was an understatement. She made sure all those years her grades were impeccable, her extracurriculars were college-worthy, and all her applications were flawless. She was confident that she would be packing her belongings with a ticket of no return at the end of the school year and, of course, by having Connor at her side. And while she didn’t want to jinx herself on a happily ever after, she knew how Connor desired to leave Haven Falls as much as she did, which, in a sense, was comforting.

But despite her excitement, Alexandra knew perfectly she would still miss the place after all her parents lived there and her best friends still had a year left of their high school time; and the possibility of them attending the same college was almost non-existent, so until her future was decided, Alexandra would make the most out of her senior year, even if that meant being the designated driver of her two best friends to the game.

And while Alexandra was the cheer captain, she wasn’t the type to act like a general before the game started, so when her friends drifted before the game started the girl didn’t put a lot of thought into she knew perfectly they would be on time, as they knew perfectly not to mess up when Alexandra was in the mood to act like a real cheer captain. So with a spare moment she tried to find Connor and see if he had already arrived instead someone else caught her attention it was none other than Olivia, the girls had been friends since they were kids and despite all the time that passed they were still close with the other.

Alexandra walked toward where Olivia was. Maybe a small talk before the game wouldn’t be that bad.
“So, are you going to tell me more about your so-called friend that pissed you off? Or you are going to still keep it a secret? Although I am not fond of riddles, so don’t go all mysterious on me”

Fine Again

As the beer touched his lips and his friend approached beginning their usual banter, Leo felt his general mood lift immediately. “Well then” he said between sips “I’m lucky you are so easily influenced!” He jibed, casually leaning against Leo’s truck. The boys let a moment of comfortable silence pass by as they sipped their drinks and watched the throng of excited teenagers start to slowly trickle into the venue in front of them. He tried to keep his mind off the troubling thoughts of earlier that afternoon so that he could enjoy the moment.

He saw Leo give him that knowing look though, and he knew what was coming. As usual, Leo’s determination of what was plaguing him was on point. It was almost annoying how good he was at that. He’d hit the nail on the head. Leo huffed out a little sigh and took another good swig. He looked over at his friend again.

“How do you do that, man, get out of my head.” He said, still smiling but there was a hint of anxiety in his eyes now. He shook his head and said “Could be nothing” he said “Probably nothing. She just seems off lately.” His eyes were unfocused for a moment, then he quickly slammed the door shut on that conversation. He wasn’t ready for that yet. Plus, what was there to talk about? Nothing had actually happened. He was probably just making something of nothing.

“So when are YOU gonna finally get yourself a girl?” He asked, back to his laid back jibing. “Seriously man, d’ya need a wingman or what?”

Byron polished off his first beer, probably a bit too quickly, especially since he hadn’t really eaten anything since breakfast. He cracked one more “Or maybe you just needed a little liquid courage”

The crowd must be starting to pick up now as it was getting louder in there. They’d better get in before the general public or parents filed in. He wasn’t stupid enough to walk into this school event with alcohol, so he worked on his second beer quickly too. He imagined Li would have arrived by now with his big brother, the star of the show. How his mother had made a fuss this morning. Still, it was better to be most places than home. Byron was glad for any excuse to be out. Not that his parents really asked where he was anymore, those days were over.

“C’mon, let’s get in there before there’s nowhere to sit” he suggested, popping the empties back into the esky to dispose of later..

Olivia groaned as her alarm rang through the now empty house. Her eyes found the ceiling before she reached over for her phone and shutting it off. “Ugh does school have to be such a pain” she groaned as she checked her notifications, before finally dragging herself out of bed. Her hair a tousled mess and her legs sore from the night before, that she still didn't exactly know what to think about it.

Olivia wasn't one to show up to school everyday if anything she took more skip days then even being at school. She seemed to enjoy it that way, after all, more chances for her to waste her life away in bed and sell the product that Junwoo had given her to sell. Even though shed planned on skipping school today, she decided she'd show just so it'd be easier to get to the football game, after all if her father had gotten home and actually woken up (drunk of course) then it'd be hell trying to find a way out and go to the game. She made her way to the bathroom fixing her hair and throwing on a pair of skinny jeans and a baggy green crop top. Shed then make her way through the house, which seemed rather trashed but no one had enough time to clean, her father drunk and on the days he was home and not in jail bottles were all around from tables to the floor, he had nothing better to do than drink his life away, as for her mother she'd been working two jobs to keep up with not only the house bills but the drinking bill too.

After school had ended and classes were over she'd gone to the game early and stood on the side waiting for people to arrive, or maybe some guy she could sweep up and leave this place. However, she knew her best friend was cheering so she couldn't leave her. It wouldn't be right.

Speaking of the devil, Olivia glanced up seeing Alexandra and well the crowd that had begun to form on the stands, she must have really been out of it had she not even noticed the crowd forming. Her eyes had found Alexandras with a smile, finally someone she could just speak to…normally.

“Really I thought you were the type to love riddles” she teased as she put her phone away in her pocket. She knew she wouldn't be able to hide the things from last night that she'd planned on keeping behind closed doors from Alexandra. And if anything…she didn't want to keep it from her. “How about you tell me about this Conner guy?” she said with her own teasing smile. There was no way she'd be only telling her secrets if she wasn't. It was always there sort of little trade.

Eventually she sighed and glanced at the bleachers shrugging, “well my father had gotten himself out of jail again yesterday… and id been talking with Leo-” her eyes found Alexandras “about the situation since I kinda needed someone to speak to, and well I kinda wanted him over someone to just…you know like sit together and talk- as friends….of course” she said rolling her eyes as she specified. She didn't need to…hell why was she? Theres nothing going on and even if there was-which there wasn't!- it would only be a fling just a moment… just like every other guy. A moment they'd share then she'd go back to ghosting them… just like every time. That's all it would ever be. She wasn't going to get attached, that's for… people who aren't her.

“Anyways, I had asked Junwoo for… a raise, ..for you know” she said, not wanting to expose too much on school grounds. “He practically refused because it's Junwoo, later on Atlas had texted me so I asked him for the raise and he said he'd do it for me. I thought that was it, you know he just did me a favor, but he wanted to go out with me and I said no because I'd already asked Leo to come over… and he snapped at me.” she said, crossing her arms, her voice becoming bitter at the memory, “claiming that he'd done something for me so the least I could do was go out with him…since he “put his neck on the line” so we kinda fought. I didn't want to speak to him. Before I know it Junwoo asked how much it'd take to…spend a night with him.... I refused at first” she said shrugging now thinking back wondering if it was only money that made her accept the offer…or if it was her being nervous to see Leo again, he tended to have a way to make her all flustered- but that was only ever a coincidence nothing more clearly!-

“So I told him a grand and he had accepted the deal, and I spent the night with him” she said looking back at Alexandra “just another fling..” She shrugged again, acting as if it didn't matter much and waiting to see her best friend's reaction and hear Alexandras own story.

Ashlyn sat cross-legged on the cool kitchen floor, stacking colorful blocks with her little brother. His giggles filled the room as the tower wobbled, threatening to topple with each new block she added. She smiled at him, enjoying the moment. If only life could stay this simple, she thought to herself, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

Her mother’s voice floated from the doorway, cutting into her thoughts. "Ashlyn, you should really go to the football game tonight."

Ashlyn’s smile faded, her attention drifting from her brother to her mom, who stood with crossed arms and an insistent look on her face. She tried to protest. "Mom, I don’t really care about football, and I don’t-"

"You need to make friends," her mom interrupted, her tone firm but not unkind. "We’ve been in this town for a couple weeks now and you’ve barely made an effort. It’s a good way to meet people."

Ashlyn exhaled heavily, looking down at her brother, who was still completely engrossed in his game. Her mom’s words felt like a weight. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to make friends, she just didn’t see the point in forcing something that didn’t come naturally. She was fine with how things were. Besides, her mind was always elsewhere, constantly spinning with story ideas. Socializing felt like a distraction.

Then again, maybe her mom had a point. She could gather some new material for her book, the one she’d been working on in secret. High school drama was full of inspiration for her writing and a football game would be brimming with the kind of scenes she liked to eavesdrop on, the kind that sparked her creativity.

"Fine," Ashlyn finally said with a sigh, pushing herself off the floor. "But I’m only going for research." Her mother smiled, clearly satisfied with the small victory.

A short while later, Ashlyn found herself walking toward the stadium, her hands shoved deep in the pockets of her jeans as the crowd grew louder around her. She felt completely out of place. I don’t belong here. The buzz of excitement and chatter felt suffocating. People were shouting, laughing, and reconnecting after the summer break, but Ashlyn felt like she was watching it all through a window, not really part of it.

She wandered aimlessly, searching for a familiar face, though she knew she wouldn’t find one. This is pointless. Deciding she’d had enough, she veered off toward the bleachers, ducking underneath them. The shadows provided some much-needed relief from the chaos of the crowd. Plus, it was the perfect spot to listen in on conversations, her secret hobby.

Ashlyn leaned against a beam, closing her eyes briefly, letting the voices of people above her blur into white noise. This is better. She could just sit back, relax, and maybe catch some interesting dialogue she could use later. Her fingers itched to pull out her phone to start writing down observations, but she stopped herself.

As she adjusted her position, her gaze landed on a boy sitting alone, just a few feet away. He was hunched over, his head down, picking at the dirt with the toe of his shoe. Ashlyn’s heart skipped for a second. Wait… I know him. It was the kid she had quite literally bumped into on the first day of school. He had those same brooding eyes, dark hair that fell a little too perfectly, and a kind of aura that screamed loner. His look was almost straight out of a book, like a character you’d expect to see in a story.

She hesitated, biting her lip, debating whether to say something. What’s the worst that could happen? Worst case, he’d ignore her. Best case, maybe she’d get some good material for her book. Ashlyn stood there for a moment, debating whether to approach the boy sitting alone. What am I even doing? she thought. Something about the quietness of him, the way he seemed to be avoiding the world just like her, made her feel like she wasn’t completely out of place.

She took a breath and walked over, her steps soft to not startle him. Leaning casually against a nearby beam, she cleared her throat.

“So... hiding from the world too?” she said, trying to inject a bit of humor into her voice. “It’s kind of the perfect spot for it, right? Under the bleachers, where no one really looks.”

He glanced up, his dark eyes looking at her. She couldn’t quite tell if he was annoyed or something else.

Ashlyn shrugged, pushing herself off the beam and continuing before the silence got awkward. “I mean, you gotta admit, it’s better than being up there with the crowd, right?” She nodded toward the bleachers where the sounds of talking and shouting filtered through. "Feels like the whole school is up there, and I... well, I'm not really in the mood for all that."

For a second, she thought maybe he wasn’t going to respond.
