Halfway Across the World

Kioko smiled. "It's alright. I can pay. It's cheep ramen." She said, smiling. All ramen and fast food was generally cheep, and she had gotten a pay raise so she had a bit more money. "But in exchange you have to do something for me." She taunted him, smiling lightly.

Cayden panicked. The last time a pretty girl asked him for a favor he was out on thr street haggling with the bus driver the price of fare.

"But Kioko's different, I hope." He thought to himself.

He groaned good-naturedly. "Alright what do I have to do?"

Kioko smiled and took his hand. "It's simple. You get to come to the Vocaloid Concert with me tomorrow." She said happily, knowing he would probably hate it.

Cayden couldn't believe his luck. He got free food AND could keep his dignity intact also! It was going to be a struggle to sit through the entirety of the vocaloid concert, but his stomach forced him to say yes.

"Ahh yes I GET to go with you to a vocaloid concert. I feel so honored that you chose me." Sarcasm literally pouring out of him while he spoke.

Kioko smiled and held his hand closed to her face. "Please?" She asked with puppy dog eyes, knowing he probably wouldn't be able to resist her cute charm.

(Key word here is probably)

Cayden watched Kioko try to seduce him into going. Its times like these that a man must make a choice. His diginity or his stomach. The choice was easy.

"Fine i'll go, but only after ordering the most expensive item on the menu" he said with a grin.

Kioko smiled, letting go of his hand. She smiled lightly at him, giggling. "Thank you~" She said happily as she walked with a little skip in her step towards the ramen shop.

Cayden watched Kioko go a few steps toward the shop. He shook his head. "Only Kioko could convince me to go to a vocaloid concert..." He thought to himself. Then he hurried after her. The stomach pains were beginning to become unbearable.

Kioko smiled as she walked into the shops, greeting the people behind the counter. Nothing on the menu was to expensive, but the most expensive thing was deep fried swordfish testicles.

Alas, Cayden didn't know very much japanese. All he could understand was "deep fried" and "Swordfish". Should be delicious right? The people behind the counter were giving him strange looks, but it must of been because of his blond hair.

Kioko passed him the small little dumpling looking things, covering her mouth. She ordered plain ramen, the noddles soon arriving at her place. She thanked them, then thanked the meal before splitting the chopsticks and starting to eat.

Cayden dug voraciously into his meal. The deep fried swordfish was delicious. It was a little salty and tough, but otherwise the meat was great. Finishing up the last of his dumpling looking things, he looked at the bill. "Not expensive enough to justify me going to a vocaloid concert." Cayden thought.

"So what was that anyway? I knew it was swordfish but not much other than that." He asked, unprepared for the answer.

Kioko smiled devilishly as she finished up her ramen. "Swordfish testicles." She said, trying to contain her laugh. She knew he was going to flip and wish he hadn't eaten it, but she wanted to see his reaction.

He looked at Kioko. He looked st his plate. He looked at his OWN testicles.

Cayden immediately excused himself to the restroom, where he spent the next five minutes trying to wash the taste of fish balls from his mouth.

It didn't work.

"You KNEW." Cayden said when he finally came out.

Kioko laughed hard, trying to control herself. "You said the most expensive thing~" She said, smiling. She was truly, truly an awful person, but this was so funny.

(You wouldn't do the same thing to me riiight?)

Cayden was absolutely livid. In fact he was about to give her what for when she started laughing. In spite of himself he couldn't stay mad Kioko, but he had to get her back somehow.

"Just you wait and see" he teased "maybe not today, maybe not this week or maybe not even this month, but I will get you back."

"Now lets get going to the botanical garden." Cayden said a little TOO innocently.

(Well, depends Prince Charming)

Kioko smiled and payed for the food, sharing a joke with the cook and causing him to laugh greatly. She waved goodbye and took his hand, walking out. "Alright, and when you get me back, I will make sure to remember this and laugh anyway."

(Whats that supposed to mean Princess Anna?)

"I'll be sure to hold you to that." Cayden said.

Cayden walked with Kioko down the street, humming the tune to his favorite song. He looked up at the sky. He frowned, you could barely see the North Star, much less the constellations.

"Have you ever been outside the city?" Cayden asked.

(Oh Hans, if only someone ever loved you~)

Kioko shook her head sadly. "To many things to do in the city for me to leave." She said, looking down sadly. She really hated that she had never left, but she couldn't help it. She gave his hand a light squeeze, smiling.

(Thats it gonna boot your sister and taking her place as VP.)

"One of these days I'm going to take you to see all the stars, i'll find a way to sneak you in my college's observatory." Cayden promised.

Cayden found it heart-breaking that so many people would live their lives never even knowing about the wonders going on above their heads. If he could at least let Kioko see them, well that would have to be enough.

Kioko smiled gratefully.

"That sounds like fun. Never actually seen the stars." She said, walking a bit closer to him. It was almost hard to distance herself. He was like gravity, pulling her in closer at every chance.

Cayden could finally see the trees of the botanical garden in the distance. Although it took maybe an hour to walk there, Kioko's constant chatter made the time fly by. They both had no end of subjects to talk about. Despite the obvious language barrier, Cayden found he could talk with Kioko more freely than with his friends back home.

"You spend ALL your freetime on this one website?" Cayden spoke in awe.

Kioko laughed and nodded. "Yeah, I know. Borderline obsessed." She said nonchalantly, waving a hand in the air like it was nothing. She could live, no thrive off of writing. It was like blood to a vampire, fresh meat to a tiger, it fueled her. She needed it. She smiled and kept walking, keeping her gaze downwards for a moment before lifting it back up.

(Roleplay-ception much?)

"Oh JUST obsessed, glad we could clear that up."

Cayden smiled as he looked all around him. He supposed he could relate with the way Kioko felt. After all, his music library numbered in the thousands, Cayden somehow finding the time to listen to each and every song. Music was more filling than food could ever be, each swell and burst making him feel large and confident, every swing and slur making him feel small and meek. His greatest gripe was unable to express his own feelings through music. But that would eventually be fixed, he was getting better and better every day.

Kioko smiled as they reached the gardens, her eyes peering around the corners of the garden. There where all sorts of flowers, and even a large grotto of cherry blossom trees in the back, that cascaded light pink petals onto the rest of the garden and adding a bit of lightness to the air. She smiled and walked in.
