"Once upon a very long time ago, in the time of Glaux, there was an order of knightly owls, from a kingdom called Ga'Hoole, who would rise up each night and perform noble deeds. They spoke no words but true ones, their purpose was to right all wrongs, to make strong the weak, mend the broken, vanquish the proud, and make powerless those who abused the frail." ~Noctus, father of Soren

The Guardians exist.

They have lived in glorious peace for years after the War of the Ember. The Great Tree of Ga'Hoole has existed in blissful harmony for many years. But at the same time, many in the owl kingdoms have had their doubts. Rumors of Pure Ones' survival shake the owl kingdoms.

The reigning king of the tree, a Great Horned named Grantaire, has been hesitant to take action and investigate the rumors, until a tragic accident right at home, the Great Tree itself, has brought it directly to his attention. Owls are pointing talons, betrayal hangs in the air, heavy like fog.

Will you unravel this mystery?

The tree was bustling.

It the time of the Golden Rain, summer in the tree, when the milkberries grew golden in color. The Guardians of Ga'Hoole were busily going about their daily lives, Guardians in training fluttering about to their classes, nest maid snakes chattering about the week's happenings, while the steady pounding of the hammer in the forge sounded through the wood like the tree's heartbeat.

A Masked owl flew from the forge with a bucket in his talons, going to meet the collier owls as they returned from their trip to a nearby forest fire, while a Sooty landed on the landing platform after the Search and Rescue chaw was done with their lesson for the day. Her dearest mentor and mother figure, Thorns, the official ryb of the chaw, had recently been a bit ill, so Firefly took the place of her beloved mentor as the chaw for the past few days. The training Guardians looked wiped out after training with her- half of them were near panting like wolves. But fairly soon, she was alone.

Snowfire the blind snowy owl was currently tending to a small owlet one of the search and rescue members brought back while letting out comforting little clicks and hoots, it didn't seem very old, perhaps only hatching about a week, the small thing had been found near a fallen tree alongside a unhatched but unharmed egg. the parents nowhere to be found. for now she had the egg resting in a down and moss covered nest back in her hollow to keep it warm.

Spitfire on the other hand was teaching some of the many owlets how to fly like her own personal class, she taught them in the natural way of branching, bringing them to the very top of the tree and them having them branch there way down while she occaisonally scolded or guided one of them on how to do it better.

Ash flew dangerously close to the water, the dark ocean blue glowing below him. His dark feathers ruffled within the slight wind. It wasn't long before the tree was in sight, the sun glowing orange and pink colors behind it. The owl blinked his eyes a bit under the bright light. The tree looked as busy as ever, maybe a bit more today than usual. As he swooped up to the landing platform he couldn't help but notice Spitfire teaching some little owlets. He happily flapped over, landing next to the small Elf Owl. "Hey Spitfire," he blurted out suddenly "teaching the owlets?" His dark eyes gazed over the group of puffballs and he let out a chuckle. "Mind if I help?"

Spitfire looked over at ash with a small hoot before nodding."Of course you may, You can help with some of the bigger species owlets, I can only teach so many of them with how small i am."She said this with a flap of her small wings."I don't want the Tyto's to be noisy fliers like i am."

A small smile fell on Ash's face. He was glad that she had accepted, he needed something to do. Moving over to the older owlets like she had instructed he stood up straight. Though he tried acting mature at first he couldn't help but laugh along with their jokes. That's probably one of the reasons why he wasn't a full time teacher, though he wasn't completely bad at it. The older owlets already knew how to fly pretty well. They were a bit wobbly but at least they didn't have to branch. He flew with them, showing a couple of tricks and simple flying techniques. The dark owl watched them with glowing eyes. "You're naturals," he said, attempting to motivate them. After a bit of that they practiced landing, that did take a little longer. Ash landed and looked over at Spitfire, smiling at her. Just then one of the owlets slammed right into him while attempting to land. They both ended up tumbling over with a thump.

Spitfire nearly laughed herself off the branch she was clinging to with her talons because of her small size."Never look away when your training owlets!"She called this out before going and gently nudging a more frightened owlet off a branch to make the little one branch as a natural instinct."See sweetie! your doing great. Just spread your wings and glide from branch to branch."

Damon could be seen on the platform with his coal bucket, picking through the coals the colliers brought in. He managed to snatch up a few bonk coals and get them in the bucket before they were snatched up by others. He made shy, nervous small talk with the colliers before politely excusing himself and picking up the bucket again, only to trip over an owlet and be sent tumbling down, landing on his belly in a heap of dusty feathers. Firefly watched this and churred softly, looking at the poor Masked owl make a fool of himself.

Azyl fluttered softly down onto the landing platform after most of the others had flown off, shaking her wing feathers out slightly. A soft sigh of relief left the owl as she enjoyed the warm sun on her feathers. With a slight tilt of her head she curiously looked over to Firefly, curious about what she was watching. She quietly crept up next to her. "Whatca doing?" She chirped curiosity lacing her voice, hoping to startle the owl.

(Pawz, Firefly is female xD )

Firefly turned her head to look at Azyl, not exactly surprised she was there. This Barn Owl seemed to be trying to sneak up behind her, but was rather unsuccessful. "Me? I'm just watching Fraiser's apprentice make a fool of himself. He tripped over an owlet." She blinked and looked at the other battle chaw member. "An owlet. How does one NOT see an owlet in front of them?"

@Pawz

(Ah! I'm sorry!)

Azyl slouched slightly at her unsuccessful surprise attack. "How did he manage to do that exactly?" She gave a short laugh, looking down at the masked owl. "I kinda feel bad for the two though..." She muttered, letting her voice fade out. "Oh, how's your mentor? I heard she fell ill, is she okay?" She turned her bright eyes to the Sooty beside her, her eyes laced with concern.

(Don't worry about it, ;p )

"What, Thorns? Oh, she's just got a cold or something, she should be up and flapping about by tomorrow night. You know how she is. Can't ever just stay still for a minute, even in her old age." Firefly churred softly, and opened a wing, preening the feathers a bit, "you say 'my mentor' like she's my own ryb. She taught all of us in the Search and Rescue chaw, and she is still technically the ryb now." She said, folding her wing back up and sighing, "I just wish she would calm down a little. She's old. She could get hurt one of these days..."

Sylph was branching with the other owlets, but she hadn't really been paying much attention to where she was going. She'd been looking at the golden milkberries and remembering the story she'd heard about the time the tree had been in a perpetual state of gold. At first, it was like a miracle, but then it started having some strange effects on the owls. What was it like for the tree, to be stuck in time? What would it be like for her? It gave her a pleasant shivery feeling to think about it. Sylph stopped for a second so she could concentrate a bit better. Stuck in time... Never moving, never changing... Watching the world whirl by...

Suddenly, the world was whirling by. She'd stopped on the platform, in front of Damon.

Damon flapped his wings to bring himself back to his talons, ruffled his feathers, then looked around at the owlet he had tripped over. "I'm sorry! Clumsy me, hehe.." He laughed nervously, picking up the coals that had been spilled all over the landing platform, the coals glowed brightly in his beak, as he dropped them into the bucket, he picked it up in his beak and walked off, bumping into Firefly as he passed her, calling out, "SORRY!" as he dived off the platform, taking the bucket into his talons as he fell, and flew off.

Firefly looked at the Masked owl as he flew away, then shook her head and looked at Azyl and remarked, "Honestly, I just don't understand why Fraiser thinks that one is such a prodigy. I don't know, he's just so... off... Do you think so?" She looked at Azyl.

Spitfire after her laughing fit had subsided, looked about at all the owlets."Alright! little ones come on, branching is over today, we'll do some more tommorow~."She called this out before flapping her small wings and bolting upward into the sky to which she burst into song into the darkness of the night while the tree was in a way lit up with all of the little flames like a beacon of hope in the endless vastness of the ocean

"You would not believe your eyes

If ten million fireflies

Lit up the world as I fell asleep

'Cause they'd fill the open air

And leave tear drops everywhere

You'd think me rude

But I would just stand and stare

I'd like to make myself believe

That planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems

'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs

From ten thousand lightning bugs

As they tried to teach me how to dance

A foxtrot above my head

A sock hop beneath my bed

The disco ball is just hanging by a thread

I'd like to make myself believe

That planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems

Leave my door open just a crack

Please take me away from here

'Cause I feel like such an insomniac

Please take me away from here

Why do I tire of counting sheep?

Please take me away from here

When I'm far too tired to fall asleep

To ten million fireflies

I'm weird 'cause I hate goodbyes

I got misty eyes as they said farewell

But I'll know where several are

If my dreams get real bizarre

'Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar

I'd like to make myself believe

That planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems

When I fall asleep

I'd like to make myself believe

That planet Earth turns slowly

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

Because my dreams are bursting at the seams."

Sylph fell onto her back. It was actually kind of comfortable. She could see little patches of sky in between the branches. The night breeze danced around her, and the noise of the waves mingled pleasantly with the noise of rustling leaves and owls chatting. It was the kind of moment when she just so happy to be alive. And as Spitfire began to sing a beautiful song, Sylph realized... that she probably looked a little bit ridiculous laying there.

Snowfire had finished tending to the owlet, having bundled up the little one in her hollow along with the egg of her sibling to keep the two warm while she then walked off, making short clicking sounds to move her way around before she listened to the music and hooted softly in joy because it was quite beautiful as she then walked over to Sylph."Hello." ((@SingerOfTheStorm ))

Sylph was a little startled, so it took a second for her to reply.

"Hi." She said, awkwardly scrambling to her talons. Sylph had seen Snowfire around the tree, but she'd never really talked to the Snowy Owl and didn't know that much about her.

Snowfire stretched her wing a bit to rub her blinded eyes for a moment, she was a nearly pure white snowy owl with a simpel adjustment of her feathers, she did appear pure white before she asked."Is it a pretty night tonight? I have not had the chance to fly through it yet to determine that myself. but i do not think i know the one who is singing? Do you?" (@SingerOfTheStorm)

"It's nice, and Spitfire." Sylph said, She wasn't really sure what to say. She never was.

She also wasn't really sure where to look. It was rude to stare, but you were supposed to look at the owl talking to you. Which would be worse?

(x3 she can't tell if anyone is staring anyway)

Snowfire nodded as she tilted her head up to look at the sky. well not really look, look, more as just a natural instint."So just asking are you part of the search and rescue chaw by any chance?" (@SingerOfTheStorm
