Realistic or Modern Grunge - OOC Thread

I know. I’ll call them something else. Any limits on the history we can add to the world with our characters?
Yes, but they're too numerous to list here. Especially since I don't have all the Lore on Grunge down. A good rule of thumb is to try and not do anything that breaks the general themes.

For example; if your character's nemesis attained some sort of power that would actually jeopardize the world of Grunge, they probably would've been taken out by either somebody much stronger, or a group of marginally weaker people working together, almost certainly unrelated to the Kamen Rider Subnarrative, ie; the "Bucket of Crabs" analogy.

Basically, if it's something that the world would need to revolve around in order for it to happen, it probably didn't happen. There's no "Progenitor of All Power" or "One True Chosen" stuff.

My bare bones backstory was that she was given powers by an evil organization at the age of 12 and works for them until the age of 18 doing general bad guy stuff but no destroy/rule the world level power. They were at best a persistent annoyance my character always ran out to fight. Think a more competent team rocket for threat level.

I think it'd be fitting if the organization was never really even taken seriously by the government, because the greater problem is decentralized and there are bigger fish to fry. They take themselves seriously, but nobody not involved directly in the narrative takes them seriously.

If you wanna go further with that, it could be that it was good that she left when she did, because not just a year later, the organization's collateral actually did piss someone off (someone strong) and that person decided to disrupt the running narrative and dismantle the organization.

That's how a lot of groups like extremist cults, or evil organizations end up in Grunge, they just end up inconveniencing the wrong person, who either on their own or with the help of their buddies decides to dismantle the band of "Evil weirdoes"

It becomes a development in the narrative in itself. A lot of people join up with the organizations like this, as a hobby because you're only really just kind of seen as a nerd or a bit flamboyant if you get involved with this stuff (since it's not extraordinary) So when they genuinely inconvenience someone strong, either for the sake of playing along, or more often than not, for the sake of petty vengeance, those people will become the organizations "enemy" or Enemy.

Nobody is really serious about taking over the world, too many mouths to feed, and all that.

How many kids fall into these orgs for the “good” or “bad” side and end up thinking it’s lame by the time they’re in there late teens?

Most kids fall into these narratives around age 13, peak at around age 16-17, and move on at around age 18. Some people end up becoming professional “battle athletes” but they’re about as common as becoming a pro athlete is in our world.

Anyone who doesn’t drop this stuff by at most age 21 is likely only going to find really strong support for their hobby in the general sub community, which with the advent of the internet has been steadily growing.

I’d say around 90% of normal kids drop it at age 18 or 19.

Battle academies have also been steadily bringing up the number of people who stay chuunis and never fully reject the concept of the narratives. Nearly 72% of all battle academy students have stated that they still have a positive opinion of, and are still active, in the narrative battle community. 16% were indifferent or positive and inactive, and 12% have a negative view and were inactive in the community. I don’t include battle academy students in the main statistic, though.

There’s also the whole thing about catastrophe response teams. Generally their recruitment pools specifically draw from exemplary battle academy students or otherwise “remarkable people”

So some people work hard enough and train their bodies and minds for it to become a job, or just refuse to give up what soon becomes a hobby of taking part in the narratives. But the vast majority of kids outgrow it in their late teens.

I'm going to re-assess these ideas and try again with a new setup, since I don't think this is going the direction I want. I'm gonna rewrite the world-lore and maybe try for one of my other ideas. Sorry for the trouble.

That's fair,though I liked the overall setup.

Feel free to tag me if you end up giving your next iteration of the concept a try here.

I wanna keep a similar feel, this sort of self-aware commentary look at the world and the nature of narratives. But I think it's better if the action isn't as decentralized, so I think I might try writing the lore for the "Lipstick Academy" RP. Name is still a work in progress, though I might keep it, just because I feel like it has a nice ring.

Sounds like a plan, looking forward to it.

You probably have other people to talk to as you work on it,but I'm open for discussion as well.

Whats lipstick academy about?

My character idea is a shonen hero in their mid to late 20s. He's a reincarnation of the thunder god Vronti who fell in battle to the serpentine giantess Fidia millennia ago. He spent his childhood and teen years fighting Fidia's reincarnation and other monsters threatening earth. But it turns out leaving class to fight cyclopes is hell on your GPA as a student so he was held back and had to get a GED. He met Fidia in her civilian form while studying (she was held back academically too), and they hit it off. They ended up dating for a few years before getting married. Today they live in a spacious apartment with their infant daughter. His wife works at a tattoo parlor while he does odd jobs around junfa

I had the concept floating in the back of my head after I watched a hypothetical scenario proposed on a gaming channel I watch.

Basically, it takes place in a world similar to that of Baki/Kengan Ashura/No More Heroes, where superhuman opponents face off against each-other for fame, power, and profit. And there are a series of cities across the globe called "Academy Cities" which all have different distinct aesthetics, but the main deal is that they all surround and operate generally towards the ultimate benefit of an academy which is located in the middle of the city.

The academies were inspired by Aim for the Top/Aim for the Ace, Honnoji Academy from Kill La Kill, and Yuuei/Shiketsu from My Hero. Some of them would specialize in only one power origin, while others would have a less focused, but more general approach.

Above all else, it'd play with the "Adventure Academy" and "Superhero School" tropes.

But overall the main conflict would be the sort of battle-school rivalry and the internal school conflicts of everyone wanting to take the top spot as their school's MVP.

Sounds cool!
