Em stared at him for a bit, then said, "What?" She couldn't quote comprehend what he was saying. "Callum, why...? We've defeated the Order, and do you really trust most other nobles to take over in your place?"

"Yes, the Order is mostly gone, and I don't trust anyone other than myself to hold this position... but, Emmalia, simply being my father's son has put you in more danger than I think is acceptable. If I keep going down this path, a new order might show, or some other warlord could take us over. There are countless dangers here. I've been mulling it over in my mind... It'd make it harder for the Order to find us, we wouldn't need to deal with obscure wars, or shady Lords."

Em frowned, then said, "Cal... No matter what, you can give up your title, but I am still going to inherit the Western hold anyway. Yes that is less of a spotlight than being a warlord, but... Still."

"We can give up that land too. We can go be farmers in an unnamed forest, just you and me. No vampire hunters, no ghosts to rapture. Just us, living for eternity together." Callum knew he was being far fetched, but deep inside he was malfunctioning at the thought of Emmalia being killed. Sure, it was hard to do, but it was much easier to kill her than Callum.

Em turned to look him dead in the eyes. "Callum. My love. You can't stop rapturing ghosts. Death will reclaim you, we know this. And I cannot give up the West. Nobody is fit to lead it, short of perhaps Camilla, but I cannot risk the lives of those people. Imagine if Ander had taken over. I cant risk anything like that happening to them." Her voice was soft, but resolute.

Callum took his gaze off her, looking at his lap. "I just want you to be safe is all, Lily Pad. I know our lives demand danger, I just... What if you get a fatal wound? What would I do without you?"

Em moved to sit in his lap and hugged him tightly. "Well, Daniel said Death doesn't separate soul mates for long. And you live forever. That's a good sign for us,"

Em closed her eyes and let herself lean against Cal, even though she could smell traces of blood on him still. He knew how to relax her despite that.

When Callum woke, it was getting close to noon, with the sun blinding him from the open window near the bed. When he woke up, he didn't bother to open his eyes. "Em?" He asked quietly, unsure if she was still there.

Callum relaxed again, glad to hear her voice. "Did you get any sleep?" He asked, putting his arms back around her.

"Let's stay like this, at least a little bit longer." Callum pleaded, wrapping his arms tighter around her.

Em was surprised, and wondered if it wasnt in some way related to his tortueing people the previous night. "Okay," she said softly.

Callum kept his eyes closed. "Thank you, love." He said softly, wishing he didn't have to get up eventually.

"I'm unsure. I just must've not slept well is all. If you want, you can go start your day without me and I'll join you later."
