"It's from Aman, he wants us to go to an honesty banquet in our favor for all the help we've given to his lordship." Callum said, reading over the note again. "He must've hired a new squire, I don't recognize the handwriting."

Callum nodded. "Well, the party is for us. It's be very rude if we didn't." He smiled and kissed her cheek. "How did you sleep? Do you feel better?"

"It seems fairly soon, it'll take us time to get there." Cal said, then gave her the letter to read over. "You and I should probably just start on our way today, I'm sure Aman can afford to keep us a bed for a few nights. Now that winter approaches the weather will be a bit more unforgiving to us."

Em nodded and read over the letter a few times. This was definitely something Aman would do for them. "Okay. I'll pack my dress and some spare formal clothing, and we can wear our armor down in case we run into any problems." The servants had already learned that they were not to touch Emmalia's armor or weapons, even when preparing for travel.

Callum nodded, and left to go begin packing for their week long trip. "Is there anything you think we should bring? And, are we stopping off at inns to sleep, or just going the whole way in the carriage?"

"We can just drive through the nights. Bring a bottle of wine, since the nights will be cold, we can spread it out over the trip."

Callum smiled softly. "I'd like that, just you and I on a nice long roadtrip. Just be ready to party once we get there."

Sometime on their journey, after a cup of wine they had shared, Callum said, "You know, I believe it's going to be a rather harsh winter. It's already lowering in temperature and it's barely the start of it." Before he could finish his thought, a large tree fell in front of the carriage on the road, stopping them in their tracks.

Em was about to reply when the sound of the tree falling alerted them to trouble. She looked at him in confusion, then said, "Should we go look? Or could this be an ambush lile what happened with Ander?"

"I'll take a look. We won't be able to go around anyway. Just stay inside where it's warm and safe. I'll be back out in a moment." Callum said, taking their lantern and going out to check on the fallen tree. Eventually he came back and got inside, sitting beside her rather stiff, without the light. the carriage began to move again. "It was just a branch." He said without lifting his helmet.

Em noticed the change in his posture, and his voice sounded slightly different, but it was nothing to really make her suspicious. It was still his voice and his scent, after all. She was concerned, though. "Really? It sounded like more than a branch. Where's the lantern? And why won't you take off your helmet?"

"The wind blew out the lantern, and I didn't bother picking it back up after I moved it. It's cold, and my helmet is padded." He said, turning his helmet slightly towards her. Now that the lantern was no longer in the cabin, it was difficult to see. "Emmalia?" He asked after a second.

"Yes, love?" She answered, wobdering what he had to say that wohld require him to preface it. Normally that would mean he was concerned about something.

He nodded his head slowly. "So, it is you." He said, his voice not quiet the same. He didn't move however, he simply sat in place, unflinching, and soon continued. "Just had to make sure it was you."

"Uh, who else would I be?" She was confused, and starting to get scared. Why had his voice changed like that? "Cal, what's wrong...?" He voice sounded smaller than before, more nervous and vulnerable.

It seemed as though the man almost loomed over her without moving, the darkness only getting darker as he chuckled lightly into the night. "Nothing, love. Will you hold my hand, please? They're quite cold. I'd like you to warm them up. Maybe it's just the cold getting to me."

Em wouldnt argue - after all, she was still glad that now she could actually warm him at all, thanks to that potion. And she had never seen him in winter, so maybe he was just bad with cold. Having much better night vision than an average human, she took off her gloves, her burns still healing, and took his hands in hers.

He smiled under his mask, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "Thank you. I'm sure Callum would be rather jealous if he saw us right now." He said his voice changing even more to be entirely different from callum's.

Em froze and immediately pulled her hands to her chest and recoiled against the wall of the carriage. "W-what?" This wasn't Callum, so where was her husband? She drew her shortsword and growled. "Where is Callum?!"

"Don't worry, he's on his way to be waterboarded. Or maybe starved. Just like you will be, too." The man removed his helmet, a bald man with a scar coming down his right eye and lip. He smiled wickidly, before replying, "Get her, men." Before Em could even flinch, both doors in the carriage were opened and a pair of hands violently threw Emmalia out of it into the harsh wind, a group of men in similar armor to the one man encircling her.

Em landed hard on the ground and was rather winded. She still had her weaponry, though, and was determined to find and save Callum. She scrambled to her feet and swung wildly, depending on her years of battle to pay off now, if no other time.

The men all began laughing at her, watching her idle swings at them. Even if she managed to hit one of them, their armor would no doubt stop it - their armor was some of the best in Trulane, and their weapons were made in the finest forges. Eventually, when Emmalia could've hit one of the men, he almost instantly punched her gut to knock the wind out of her, while the entire circle of ten or so men surrounded Emmalia and swarmed her, holding her down. Then, the man who was in the carriage stepped forth and spoke. "Take her to the Order, too." As he turned to leave, the rest of them put Emmalia back into the carriage, with five guards in it with her, and more on the top. the ones inside kept their silver blades trained on Emmalia should she try and move.
