"You're welcome. Now, where to look for more clues...?" She thought for a bit, then suggested, "Maybe a local priest? They're usually one of the first to notice something - or someone - odd among the congregation."

"I suppose it's not a bad place to check. Shall we?" He motioned, then began to walk with Emmalia. "Do we know how many girls total disappeared?"

"Yeah... eight. Nine is a bad number. Three threes. You can summon a powerful demon at that point...." They arrived at the church, and Emmalia halted outside the threshold. "Cal, I can't go inside. Either being the priest out here, or interview him yourself."

Callum frowned and looked at the church, then back at Emmalia. "Why not? Is it something to do with you being a... With you having a condition?" He asked skeptically, looking around in case anyone was listening.

Emmalia nodded. "That's why we couldn't be married in a church. I can't cross the threshold, I'll burn like if I were covered in silver, and magic will literally throw me out."

"Oh." Callum said with a pause, unsure of what to say for a moment. "Well, churches are overrated anyway. Should I head in alone or just wait out with you?"

Callum nodded his head and gave Emmalia a gentle kiss on her cheek. "I shouldn't be more than a moment my love." He said, giving her hand a squeeze before entering the church.

Callum greeted the priest with a handshake. "Hello, my name is Callum Cross, I'm exploring a bit into the tragedy of the recent disappearances of girls in this city. Do you know anything about it?"

"Ah, yes, terrible business it is. Not all of the girls were from my church, but a tragedy nonetheless. I couldn't tell you much, though. I've just been trying to manage the panic among my parishioners.

"Perhaps any of them know something?" Callum speculated out loud. "During your next convention make sure to bring up cleansing sins. We need anyone's help on this matter, and a Devine intervention could help us find those girls."

The priest nodded. "That's a very good idea, sir. The next sermon will be fire and brinstone filled. I'm sorry I couldn't help more."

"You'll be helping plenty if this works out. Remember, if you hear anything, report it to the guard or myself. Don't entrust the information to anyone else." Callum nodded his head and turned to leave, rejoining Emmalia outside.

"No, but the priest is going to ask for confessions in his next session, so hopefully someone will admit they saw - or did - something related to the girls."

"Okay," Em said with a nod. They had barely started walking when a random stranger walked up to them and shouted, "I know what you're doing! Stop sticking your nose where it doesn't belong! This is your only warning!" He made the mistake of reaching out to shove Em, who grabbed his wrist and twisted it while pulling him closer, putting him in an effective lock.

The man said, "Ow! Let me go! Why are you doing this to me?!"

Callum quickly pulled his sword on the man the second his hostile intent was clear, and held it to his throat when Emmalia held him. "What do you know?" He asked, the blade pressing against his neck.

"I don't know what you're talking about! Why are you threatening me?!" The man seemed scared and confused.

"Because you just threatened us," Emmalia said sternly.

"No, I was just walking along and you grabbed me! I've never even seen you before!"

Callum grimaced as he pulled the sword away. He grabbed the man's arm and pulled him in. "Em, go fetch some guards to take him to the cells. Well have him interrogated and see what's truly going on."

Em hesitated, then said, "Cal... I think he might actually not remember." Still, though, it was best to play it safe, so she flagged down a passing guard and explained the situation. The Guard took the man away, and Em turned to Callum once they were alone. "That was very strange..."

"No matter." Callum said. "People will do what they can to get bad reputation for anyone more well of than them. Even if he's cenile, there's no reason why he should be travelling the streets - anyone who can say something like that and forget could end up speaking to someone a lot less kind than I am."

Emmalia paused as she looked at Cal. Very wuietly, she said, "You sound a lot like you did when we first met. Cal, we have girls disappearing, Guards oddly forgetful, a frightened populace, and a high risk for a very strong demonic summoning. We can't rule anything out or jist assume someone is senile. Maybe it's not because how you said, that we're better off, maybe it's because we have been gathering attention to ourselves by asking what we've been asking."
