Futuristic Gates

"2.4 million people killed. An estimated 600 thousand kept as pows. It has been 9 months and the kingdom with the combined might of your allies still can't launch a counter offensive." The president read.


"Ace. We are here to talk not threaten." The princess said sternly.


"It will take us 3 years to re-build our armies since all of them have been killed or captured. And I do not want an invasion because the kingdom no longer has an army to defend itself."


There were soldiers that pointed their guns at Ace along with a few m4 browning machine guns. "You kill us, and we kill the rest of your civilization. And you can forget about prisoner exchange."

"Protect the ambassadors." A voice sad through the radio.


"Kill on sight the minute he tries anything."

As soon as she saw his fingertips glow black she put her hand on her short sword's hilt. While speaking from behind him:


"And here I thought we were starting to her along, haven't you realised yet that we take magic display as a threat? I will listen to what you have to say, but don't expect the same thing from these guys, they will shoot you at command. Remember, they only need to talk to the princess, any other interference/annoyance will be removed." Ellen and Alex went in the chamber as well, armed with m4's and were prepared to fire. Ariel then shook her head stopping then. They were now aiming their guns at Ace near the other 4 soldiers.

Ace made a 'tsk tsk' sound from his mouth. He looked over at the princess in annoyance. "These people are so bothersome- thinking I'll waste my magic on them." He walked in a circle, letting the smoke flow freely from his hands. "I already told you, those things don't scare me" he said pointing to the guns. He stopped walking and grinned. "Even if you gave my squadron back to me, I know for a fact you wouldn't let us go. So I don't need them; we came to an.. agreement." He chuckled and rubbed his hands together. The smoke left his fingertips and encircled his cuffs.

The three soldiers pulled the hammers back of the m4 browning heavy machine guns.


The soldiers all pointed their assault rifles at Ace.

Ace raised his eyebrows. "Well?" The black smoke traveled up his body and his neck. It crawled under his eyelid and disappeared and he grinned. "I suppose black smoke scares you. I'm surprised, even though your explosive fire leaves it everywhere."

"We're not scared. You are simply provoking us."

Ace sighed. He looked at them plainly and leaned back on the wall. "If you have something to say, say it. I am not here to just stand around."

"Stop leaning on the walls." The president said.


"And you are not in control here. We don't answer to you."


"What do you think you have that you belive will some how defeat us?"

"Steady. Keep your distance."

Ace chuckled. "Secrets. Some even the princess doesn't know." He got off the wall and stepped closer to the president. "You may think that you have us in your hands, but you don't. I haven't given up hope because I know things- I've seen things that could scar you for life." He grinned then bent down to the chair the president was sitting on. "But then again, so have you right?"

"We have allies as well. In your world. And we have weapons that we should never use against another civilization. We have a wide array of super weapons, and advanced equipment. We do have you under our control. Because as a civilization this advanced, we have seen everything. Nothing can intimidate us. Especially things from your world." The president said.


"Oh we know many things about your world. Thanks to the aid of certain people in your world along with our own assets."


"And we know that your population is only a small fraction of ours. We have a population of 22 billion. We know that your world only has 1 billion."


One soldier slammed Ace's face down on the table as he pushed Ace back from the president.


"You have no right to do that." The soldier said pointing at Ace as he walked back.

Ace rubbed his forehead in annoyance. "So what you're telling me is that people from my planet are on your side as well? I never thought as them as the traitor type." Ace nodded and let the words sink in his brain. "I get it, I get it. Did any of those people, tell you anything special about.. the Emperor perhaps?" He said while standing beside Kayla at an oddly close distance. The pupils in his eyes turned pitch black. The smoke was starting to affect him. He rubbed his eyes and his pupils returned to their normal colour.

"It's amazing just how many rebels there are that wants to topple your senate. Even people in your own government and military. We simply made a deal with them. And we promised something for them in return." The Vice president said.


"We have intelligence from them. Including the emperor, senators, and the prince who is not very admired."


"I hate that prince." The officer said.

 

[Skelo10]

Ace's eyes flashes and his face hardened; he was serious now. "I didn't ask about the senate. All I want to know is if there is any information they gave you particularly about the Emperor."

"Yes. We already told you. You have rebels in your own senate and people close to the emperor as well. They have been spying for us and they gave us information about the emperor, and some of the high senators." The president said.

Ace laughed. "Alright, just wanted to make sure." His eyes quickly darted away from the earth people and he took a glance at Kayla. This is bad. Especially if they find out, what we've been planning. How dare they! He kept quiet, thinking of the old fool people call the Emperor.

"You really thought you could win. With more advanced civilizations, you've just learned that we have many ways of infiltrating your nation. We have fought many wars against ourselves and with that, we gain experience. You might never know who all of these people are, some might stand out and you might be able to persecute them." The Vice president said.


"Get them out of here."

"Lets go. Lets get them out of the assembly. The princess is suppose to meet with a few people."


"What about the other guy?"


"Leave him for the special forces guys."

Kayla signaled her team members to come at them, now that she had complete custody over him they could talk undisturbed but first she went to commander Volski and saluted. "I suspect this is where we part ways, sir. It's been an honour to serve besides you." She then went to her team that were at Ace's sides.


"Okay, now we can have a little chat. Follow me, I'll let you walk uncuffed since its my clan's belief that two swordsmen must respect each other even if they are enemies. But then again that applies only to me. Ellen has other methods of "talking",but consider them our security detail." Alex then came with Ace's sword and handed it to him. Kayla made a pleased face while saying:


"One can't be called a swordsman without a sword, can he? now follow me." And she started walking towards one of the gardens outside.


They passed one of the famous sculptures called "Non-Violence" that is a bronze sculpture representing an oversized Colt Python.357 Magnum revolver with a knotted barrel and the muzzle pointing upwards.

Then finally arriving at the spot she wanted, there lied the Japanese peace bell. Kayla stopped near it and started talking:


"Let me tell you about this thing, it's called the Japanese peace bell.I was a peace offering/donation from my country, called "Japan", from the time it had not yet been officially admitted to the United Nations, more than 140 years ago. That thing we passed, the big gun with the noded barrell, Its called "Non-Violence" it was a similar gift from another country.


You see, those guys might speak of war and fighting, but all they want...all WE want is to keep our people safe, to protect the peace we payed so much to attain. If what you're about to tell me, will help keep that peace I ..*she looks at the other 2 and sees them nod, then continues* WE will help you. So you can start telling us what you know about these gates."





On one side of the bell, behind the place where Kayla stopped, there was something inscribed in Japanese characters:????????. If Ace is curious he could ask her what it means.

Ace's eyes perked up at the strange writing. "Before we get to that, can I ask you what are those drawings?"

There were people walking around, children playing, people reading, and all seemed generally happy and smiling.

Kayla shows a bright smile upon hearing his question and answers him without turning back to look at the writing, instead she was staring him in the eyes:


"I'm glad you asked, it says "Long live absolute world peace". You can consider it as a reminder that 'Peace requires work -- long, hard, difficult work.' I may sound like a hypocrite, speaking of peace while being at war and murdering...but in the end that is the only way to achieve it...WE fight now for peace so that future generations will not have to. Or at least that is what I tell myself."

Ace chuckled. "I do find it ironic. Now, to get to you helping me with this Gate Opener matter. I need to tell you a story and to do that I need my wrists uncuffed."

She made a grin while saying "Well that's great 'cause I like listening good stories" she then took a set on a nearby bench, and gestured him to join her. Meanwhile Alex and Ellen wend behind her, they as well were curious about what he had to tell." Aila getting bored again spoke through Alex's radio that had a mini speaker.


"I want to hear that story too Ace-kun, does it start with 'Once upon a time' like the rest? I hope it's a love story, maybe Ari-chan will learn something from it." In that moment as she closed her eyes and showed a nervous smile, a vein bulging could be seen on Kayla's neck. She wanted to respond to the tease but suppressed the urge. The two behind her let out a small chuckle then made a poker face, they knew what would happen if the captain would catch them laugh at her.

Ace grinned. "I wish it was a love story.. So here it is. Before all this war started, before we even knew about the gates I was just another ordinary soldier in the army. My father was one of the head generals and Squadron X was just created a few weeks ago at that time. I wanted to be in Squadron X very badly and the king agreed. But I had to do something very drastic.. kill my father. Of course, I didn't want to do it.. and I didn't. The night I was supposed to do it, I already found him dead on his bed. I wasn't sure who did it, so I was honest to the King and told him I just found his body. I still don't know who killed him but the king made everyone think it was me." Ace stopped to frown. "My punishment for not killing my father?" He took off his shirt and what was underneath was not pretty. It was covered in deep scars, making him look like he was dead. His body looked like it had been chopped up and tied back together. "Should I continue?"

She took a look at the scars on his back, the 2 behind her gasped, and Alex that had a small scar on his cheek uncouncoiulsy put his hand on it, he wanted to say something but Kayla raised her right hand stopping him.


"Please continue." she said with a calm voice. It was no surprise they resorted to physical punishment. Even she received it during training..but never to the extent of leaving scars, she felt a little sorry for him.

Ace nodded and sat back down, not bothering to put his shirt back on. "The truth was, Squadron X was being forced. Being forced to kill randoms, being forced to serve that fat oaf they call a king. So, I made a plan. We were going to eliminate him and replace the throne with a democractic system. After two hard years of planning, we were prepared. The night that was supposed to be his death was the night the gates opened." Ace leaned back. "I had a sister too. I went looking for her, in all of the confusion. The Squadron told me the Gate Opener used her.. as a test subject." He gripped his chest hard, trying to keep himself contained. "I won't get into all the details, but I am betting on my life that the Gate Opener is the king. Even if it wasn't,I know he had something to do with it. I'll kill him then kill his daughter for what he did to my sister. He caused this war, and now all my friends are dead."
