They learned about the uses and properties along the it's dangers. They would be repotting the mandrakes so everyone had to make sure they had their earmuffs

Earl put on his earmuffs. However seeing as they were only babies and could not kill. And that it was the second to last class of the day. He wanted to try something. He was the first to take out a mandrake. He took out his wand. "Silencio." He cast the spell and took off his earmuffs. It did not work. And he was knocked out by the piercing scream.

Emily had prepared a nice big new pot for her Mandrake. "I know you will be very unhappy me pulling you out of your old pot but you will be more happy in your new pot....you will also have more room to stretch and grow" She gently spoke to her mandrake afterall no one would be able to hear her with their earmuffs on.
Emily was ready to pull her mandrake out when in the corner of her eye she saw Earl fall to the ground. "Earl!" She gasped. She took the mandrake away from his hand and quickly reported it so it woukd stop screaming before going down to his side. "MR. LONGBOTTOM!!!" She yelled out waving her arms trying to get his attention.

He walked over to them. He took them both out. "What did he do?"

'Something completely mental no dought!' Emily wanted to say, knowing for sure Earl did something stupid. "Not completely sure sir...I was busy with my mandrake....but I did find him with a mandrake in one hand and he wand on the other..." Emily said now holding on to Earl's wand with hers. "So if I would have to guess he was trying to cast a spell of some sorts"

He shook his head. He took out his wand and waved it in earl's face. He woke up. "What were you doing?" He asked. "I wanted to see if the silencing charm would work on a mandrake." Earl said.

Emily facepalmed herself "Earl.." she growan quietly shaking her head. He did do something stupid, lucky it was a baby mandrake and she figures that was why he did it.

With the class over Emily stood next to Earl with a new mandrake in front of him and Neville standing across from them.

They all put on earmuffs and Earl took out his wand as he unpotted a mandrake. "Silencio." He muttered the incantation and cautiously took off the earmuffs. He looked at her and Neville. And gave a thumbs up.

Emily watched Earl intentively as he took out his wand and unpotted the mandrake. She bit her lower lip and almost held her breath as she watched Earl reach up and take off his earmuffs. Then she saw him standing there holding the unpotted mandrake in one hand, giving them a thumbs up with the other and wearing that smirky silly smile of his. Emily reached up and pulled off her earmuffs and she heard nothing, she got a huge smile and jumped up and down "EARL! this is brilliant your brilliant....I can't believe this actually worked!" she said giving him a side hug as she jumped up and down, from the shire excitement of this discovery.

"No one ever thought...." Professor Longbottom said with a wide smile. "This could be a revolutionary discovery. Earl. 100 points to Hufflepuff."

Emily was just in aww about this discovery, she was going to have to write it down on her journal. "Wow Earl who could have ever thought the silencing charm woukd work on mandrakes!" She said
