Classes went as normal they had their first year, with the normal classes of transfiguration, charms, potions, history of magic, defense against the dark arts, astronomy, herbology, and flying for those who chose to keep it.
The transfiguration professor was as unpleasant as he always was. Today they would be practicing a spell for turning animals into inanimate objects.

"Isn't it kind of unethical to transform animals fully or even partly with no way to turn them back?"
"Mr. Johnson they are simple creatures,...I suggest you do the lesson or fail today's lesson..." the professor said tiredly and with great annoyance in his tone of voice.

Earl sighed. "Not so simple that they can't feel fear." He muttered.

After some practice of wand movement and pronouncing of the spell, the class was given all rats for them to transformed into goblets once they were ready.
"I not going to do this...let alone if they will not be turned back..." Emily said already holding on to the rat in her hand gently petting it. "just using them for such a purpose is utterly barbaric!" she said.

Earl looked at his own rat and then at Emily. "Agreed." He said putting away his wand. "Turning objects into other objects is one thing. Doing it to living creatures is another."

Emily gently smiled seeing that Earl agreed with her on such spells. She nodded "its strange we are learning such spells right?...goblets arnt made of rats..craftsmen use metal or glass....so why such lessons?"

"And the argument that it's for defense is crap. Harry Potter taught us plenty of spells to defend against animal attacks without having to hurt them. Sure he also taught us a few that can hurt them if it's absolutely necessary but-" "ENOUGH! Mr. Johnson that is the third time you've spoken out of turn as well as refusing to participate in the lesson. 50 points from Hufflepuff. Earl's mouth dropped. "But the year's only just started and we've only got 60!" He argued. "Speak again and I will remove the last 10."

Emily frown as she stood up "I also refuse to partake is such barbaric practices professor" she said pointing at the professor with her hand she wasn't holding the rat. "...in today's lesson and any lessons pland this school year having to do with poor innocent creature being turn to usesless items as buttons or bunny slippers! Or this poor cute rat into cups...who would ever be like I'm thirsty let me transfergurate this rat into a goblet so I can have a drink.....you would need to be utterly mental!..."

He frowned. "Enough." He warned. "She's got a point-" "Enough! Both of you detention."

"And?" He asked. "Remember it's not about making him happy."
"Right....not your right it's not..." that was an idea she had to get use to. Do things for herself and not just to please her father. "...however, he will still be cross you know" she added not looking forward to that punishment.

"Probably. But it'll work out." He said.

"I know...and I'll get better..." she commented about her not worrying about her father. "Your such a bad influence Earl...Turning me into a delinquent...." she sighed playfully pretended as if she was disappointed
