"Well what I'm I suppose to do...I can't really be friends with anyone with how my father is....." she said with a sigh unfolding her arms "....I really should have just let my father pull me out of Hogwarts..." she said under her breath looking away from Josh and Alyssa

Alyssa sighed. "You're father can't hold power over you forever Emily. Don't let him gain anymore control over you than he already has. Fear is an important tool for him. He works hard to make you fear him because if you don't then he can't control you. It's basic psychology. Works on muggles and wizards alike."

"It's just not easy Alyssa....but I understand" Emily said, however she just couldn't stop fearing her father. That would be hard she genuinely was terrified of her father, she thinks she was more scared of him then walking up to a dragon, which she has never done per say. "I'll see you guys later I need some air..." she said walking off wanting to be on her own.

Emily walked down to the large tree by the lake, where she would normally find Earl playing on the shore with Lucky. She sat at the base of the tree looking out towards the large lake, letting out a small sigh. "what I'm I going to do..." she said to herself as she hugged her knees close to her chest. She really hoped Earl was doing okay at that hospital, she missed him and just felt completely miserable knowing that her father was the one who did this. She wanted to comfort her father but was scared beyond reason for the consequences that could come her way, more so if confronting him meant Earl would be in more trouble and if Josh and Alyssa would get pulled into it all.

It was a week later but Earl eventually returned.

After three days Emily wrote a letter to her father confronting him about the whole incident. However, she never ended up sending it out to him and it now sat in her trunk. She had planned to send Archimidies with the letter but she chickened out and decided to just dump it into her trunk. Emily had been relieved to see Earl when she first saw him, glad to see him back at school and alive. With him gone for a week, she really had feared the worse.
For the whole first day that Earl was back, Emily had managed to stay away and avoid him, what helped was that the rumors of him being cursed had spread and everyone wanted to talk to him. The next few days it became much harder as more people just lost interest and started to let him be. At this point, Emily really was considering sending for her father to take her out of Hogwarts she really couldn't keep doing this for the whole year.

Earl kept trying to talk to her. Not one class or meal was she at that he didn't try to talk to her or he friendly.

Earl being so nice to her and just overall trying to talk to her whenever he got the chance was killing her. She felt horrible she was just being an awful friend in her quest to avoid him. After their last class of the day, Emily took off running once the class was let out. Trying to keep away from Earl and unsure where to go, she ended running straight into the closest girl restroom.

Earl did not follow her in. But she did here his voice could be heard though. "Fine. I give. You want me to stay away I will but don't think for a second your protecting me. You're only doing it so you don't have to stand up to your father. So remember that this excuse about keeping me and Josh safe is bullshit. You're a f*cking coward Emily! You hear me!? A COWARD!" The last words were almost sobbed as she heard loud footsteps as he ran off.

The bathroom had been empty when she ran in, running into a stall. Emily held her hands over her ears and closed her eyes as Earl's voice could be clearly heard within the bathroom. Even though she tried not to hear him she heard every word he told her and it broke her. She sat there crying as she heard his footsteps as he ran off. She had ruined the friendship she held most closely to her heart.

He had gone to the black lake to practice spells. "Damn it." He said as he cast stupefy. "DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT!" He caste a spell with each word venting his anger.

Josh along with Alyssa had been seeing the whole mess Emily had been doing with avoiding them both but most of all Earl. He had been in the class along with Emily and Earl when he saw Emily grab her books and sprint off before anyone else got up from class. This was rare as she was never one to leave just as the professor was finished speaking. With Earl running off after her he did his best to chase after the two, catching his breath as he reached in earshot of Earl yelling into the girl's restroom at Emily.
Finding Alyssa and telling her what happened he dragged her out to help him talk with Earl. from afar his eyes went wide watching a very angry Earl casting spells "um...I think it might be best if we just talk to him later" he told Alyssa losing that bit of bravery he had master to grab Alyssa and go talk to Earl.

The next morning he was still angry with Emily. But in a much better mood. Quidditch tryouts were coming up. Showing up was all he had to do. Running drills, which he still did, was more formality than anything else. He was practically guaranteed a spot on the team. Once gain alternating beater and seeker.

Emily had not come to see his tryouts this year. Josh how ever decided to go seeing Earl in a better mood then the other day at the lake. After the spots for the teams had been picked and try out were over Josh made his way to Earl. "Right on Earl, both beater and seeker once again.." Josh said congratulating Earl.

"Thanks Josh." He said with a goofy grin. He seemed almost unfazed by Emily's lack of an appearance.

Josh was glad to see Earl was in such better mood. And now felt not just scared but bad about running that goofy grin of his. But he just could help but feel bad about him and Emily.

"Don't make excuses for her." He said. "Everything that's happened between us is her fault. I tried to keep being friendly, none of us ever made her start avoiding us or stop being friends with us. She made that choice herself. I never want to see her stupid, rich, snobby face again as long as I live." He walked back toward the castle.

"Earl wait!, but I'm not trying to make excuses for her. Look what her dad did to you......She really does think that not being friends with us will keep us safe!....blimy! You walk fast!" He said getting out of breath as he kept trying to keep up with him as he walked back to the castle. "Me....well Alyssa really...tried to convince her...she told her this was a stupid idea...but she would not listen to us!" She yelled out at him as Josh stopped following and caught his breath.
