27.Scorpio.Basalisk.Shadows&Earth

Truth be told Rune didn't want to tell Mari what thy had been discussing. Her and Alina were once good friends and he didn't want to tell her that he was going to turn her in. Good news? Rune wasn't engaged to her so she really couldn't punish him for not divulging the truth. The same could not be said for Cypres. His emerald orbs watched as she moved over to Vesta and escorted her through the double doors towards the rooms to ensure that she didn't overhear their discussion. However, Cy's response instantly turned his already sour mood into one of violence and rage.

"Pardon your fucking self, that is your fiancé you are talking about. The woman who should hold your loyalty, not some pretty blonde dragon who's skirt you keep chasing." Those eyes of his turned into slits as his glowing gaze narrowed into sharp daggers towards the man-- if you could even call him that. He felt his fangs extending in response to the threat and it took everything to fight the urge to bite him and unleash his poisonous wrath. Killing him would make him feel better sure, but it wouldn't help anything. There was no way he'd let Mari be exiled from her pack, no fucking way.

"You want my help?" Rune shifted off and leaned on the cane, his fist clenching the top knob of the intricate device as he contemplated his words, trying not to be a repugnant asshole. However Alina was joining them and he was quickly biting at his lip. He watched her hand move to Cy's back to comfort him and all he could do was snort and roll his eyes. "Growing up we had this old fairytale story. Only an act of true love could save someone from being eaten alive by shadows and becoming a wraith. Good thing she'll be marrying Leo tomorrow, the only half decent heir we have in in this kingdom." A cocky smirk spread on his face as he aimed to rub salt in the wounds. "Oh, wait, he's mated to the twin isn't he? What a shame. Guess there's no saving her. You however are set to marry the love of my life and you'll do well to remember that. She is my priority. Maybe it'll do her well if Alina turns to a wraith, then you can give her the fucking attention she deserves."

With that said Rune marched off in a limping fashion and to his room. He tossed his bag on the bed and switched to a pair of swim trunks that took him longer than he'd like to admit to change into. He hated how weak his body was, but he'd be damned if anything stopped him. With a small huff he and the damned cane made their way back out to the pool and his eyes instantly fell onto Marigold. His face heated and stars be damned, did she have to look that good in everything? Without a word he plucked two glasses of wine from the nearby waiter and carried it one hand as he moved over to her.

"I know you're trying to hook those two up but they're both fucking awkward." Rune did his best to be mindful of the distance he had to Mari as he handed her the glass, his own glass clinking with hers before he took a sip of the red liquid. It was strong vintage of wine and meant to be enjoyed slowly, so as he watched Vesta chug it like some party girl he couldn't help but snort. "Well at least tonight will prove entertaining."

26.Leo.Vampire.Fire

While Leo wasn't thrilled with Veda using his injury as a way to get out of spending time with him he bit down on his lip, though he couldn't help his lower lip puffing out in a small pout. "My bed's pretty big y'know, some would say built for a king." His golden ringed bright blues drifted from her gorgeous face with the goddess like glow to it and down to the soft lit hands pressed to his abdomen. The sharp stabbing pain that he had seconds prior was now a dull ache and all he could do was widen his eyes. "Hey you've gotten pretty good at healing. I've heard healers took forever to learn tricks like that. I- uh, thank you Veda. That feels better." He offered her a gentle smile before his hand lifted and tucked a stray dark lock behind her ear. "If you get lonely you know where my room is. I'm literally available for you 24'7 for the rest of forever."

He was going to turn and head to his room had it not been his charming fiance showing up and nearly drowning the man. "Hey, hey, hey. She came onto me with those healing hands. Besides, is it any of your business? You're just jealous you haven't found your own mate." Like a petulant child he stuck his tongue out at Alina and proved for the millionth time that there were no romantic feelings between the two. A political relationship at its finest, the two were more bickering siblings than anything. Instead of responding though she simply dragged Veda into the room and left him to pout outside of her room. Fine, be that way.

On his heels he turned and carefully changed into a pair of red trunks. In the mirror he pushed his blonde locks out of his face and made sure he looked good. His muscles were as prominent and defined as always, he looked damned good like always, the only thing that wasn't up to par was the obnoxiously large wrap around his midsection. It made him grumble quietly but he was eternally grateful that Veda had taken the pain away.

"Listen, I said we're here to party. Not be a bunch of depressed little bitches." Leo scowled at all the frowns as he walked out onto the patio. Rune seemed like he was in an even fouler mood than normal, Matteo was brooding by the side of the pool, and Mari was just always extra bitchy. The only light of the night was Veda. "Thanks my good man." Leo grabbed two glasses b-lined for Veda, a handsome smile on his face as he offered her a glass. "Has anyone told you how drop dead gorgeous you are tonight? Because that's my job and I'll kill them if they did."

“Leo! Don’t be rude.” Veda gasped at what he said to Alina, her eyes going wide in surprise as she looked between the two of them for a moment. She had known for a while now that there was no romance between them, even before Veda and Leo began down their own path, but this was the first time she truly saw the sibling bond between the two in full force. Veda wasn’t given much time to respond as she was pulled into the room with Alina to get dressed, finding herself suddenly with a suit in hand before the door even fully shut. She looked down at the deep red bikini in her hand for a long moment before letting go a soft breath and moving to get changed. The two women stood out of view of each other and Veda was thankful for that when Alina’s apology rang out into the short silence. “You shouldn’t be the one apologizing Alina.” She had been told that mates were fate and that you were tested by the stars if you were worthy of the gift… but Veda still felt responsible. If she hadn’t been getting so close to Leo maybe the bond would have never even began to take root? Veda had known he was engaged but she still didn’t walk away, she still had spent all her extra time with him and kissed him… loved him. All before they knew of their mating bond, that was ultimately what she felt the worst about. “Seriously Alina, I understand. I- I hate to admit that I’m too selfish to walk away completely but I still don’t want you guys to walk away from this wedding. I keep trying to tell Leo that I’m perfectly content standing alone on the side just to know he’s okay. To know that I don’t ruin all of this for you both.”

Alina stepped back into view moments later causing Veda to smile over at her, “Thanks, so do you little lady!” Her voice had a lighter tone to it as she returned the compliment before taking a seat on the edge of the bed so that Alina could do her hair. “Thank you.” Veda meant it for more than the braid, turning to give Alina a bright smile somehow feeling lighter despite the strange relationship between the two of them, with Alina she knew that she had a real friend and that felt nice in this intense new world.

Back to the landing outside of the pool area, Alina was quick to scold Cypres on something before plucking a glass of wine for Veda and passing it off to her before heading straight to the water. Veda followed behind her shortly after, taking a small sip of the wine as she stepped out into the sun.

Vesta was already in the pool with an empty glass in her hand and Veda let out a small giggle as her twin swayed a bit. “I’ve had a bit, though it seems like you may be a better judge. Maybe we should have a seat Vee.” Veda took another long sip of her wine as she tapped her foot against the edge of the pool in an invite to come over and relax. Leo’s voice rang out behind her and she turned to offer him a sweet smile as he bee lined in her direction with two glasses of wine in hand. “Trying to get me drunk mosquito boy?” She motioned to the other hand with the glass of wine present and finished it off before placing the empty glass on a nearby table and moving towards him to take the glass and slide her hand gently over his arm before looping her own through it. “Well Alina did, but if you try to go after her I’ll have to kill you myself.”

Veda gave him a little squeeze of the hand before letting go to make her way into the pool and loop around to lean against the wall alongside Vesta. The fully depleted glass of wine was affecting her a bit, loosening her up and bringing out a bit of her energy but no where near as much as it was affecting Vesta. This wasn’t completely new to be fair, it seemed like the fae wine was much stronger than anything mortal and typically Veda had more of a tolerance than he sibling. “You good Vee?” She smiled at her a bit before turning back to catch Leo’s attention and pat for him to come take a seat near them. “Come on mosquito boy, come join the

wall club over here since you can’t get in fully.”

Mari may have hated half the people around her but currently she was thankful for the group interactions, it meant that the world wouldn’t instantly turn to chaos around them just because they were near each other. Even with Rune in one of the worst moods she had ever seen him in, she still wanted to be near him. “That’s exactly why I’m trying so hard, who else is going to want to be with them besides the other one. Listen, I know it’s weird but I like the kid, she’s got potential.” Her shoulders rose and fell in a little shrug as she took a long sip of the deep red liquid and leaned against one of the nearby pillars, watching the waves on the pool surface as she spoke. “She’s new to this world and is possibly going to take a position of power. But she still has these honest and innocent thoughts about what love is and should be. I want her to find it and be locked in before the powers that be can get their claws in her.” Mari was jealous of that fact, that there was a possibility to have power and love, that there was a small chance that Vesta wouldn’t have to be trapped in terrible situations like the rest of this crew. Hell even her own sister was surface level happy but Mari knew better, this mate thing would be respected to an extent but it wouldn’t make this marriage go away without a lot of drama and trouble following behind it. Her eyes slowly moved up from the water over to Rune and there was a sad longing there, the same old shit between them brewing near instantly. “Stars, I’m sorry Rune. I don’t mean to always make things so fucking dark.” She groaned and finished off her glass with a grimace at the sweet taste as it slid down her throat with a heavy gulp. Rune was right, this shit was strong and apparently she would fucking need it. “Anyways, you’re right. The wine should only help things. At least the wine when paired with my grand plan and meddling. Would you like to join?”

The downtrodden look in Mari’s eyes lit up a bit, the spark of mischief flashing within them as she glanced back to the awkward couple in the pool. “The way I look at it is that Matteo doesn’t have enough back bone to get me to back off and the wine will completely destroy Vestas filter. What could truly go wrong? Plus her idiot boyfriend isn’t here to complicate things. So if I just shove him metaphorically in her direction or say, his favorite mentor and boss maybe made some comments… I think he might finally get the nerve so say something to her. What do you think?”

Without really thinking Mari reached over and gave him a gentle squeeze on the arm holding the cane, a soft smile on her face as the sky instantly greyed with the threat of a storm. So fucking dramatic. For a moment she thought of flipping of the skies but then she decided to not ruin everyone else’s relaxing evening and instead let her hand drop and the beautiful weather to return. Something as simple as that could cause issues as well apparently, even though it was as innocent as could be. Glad to know that even trying to be friends with Rune would be impossible with the watchful gaze of the stars above. “Plus the water will feel good on your injuries, the floating will take off some pressure, come on. You too kids. No one but the idiot with the constantly reopening wound have a medical reason to not be floating and sipping on wine. So let’s go before I start throwing people over the edge.” Mari announced to the group as she made her way down the steps of the pool with a sway to her curved hips that further accentuated the shape of her bikini and sarong tied around her hips. Just before she entered the water she removed the small scarf and instead used it to tie up her wild curls into a messy bun.

“Leo I’m impressed that such a gaudy element sign was able to create such a peaceful atmosphere with a pool no less. The view is shockingly beautiful and there isn’t tacky gold and red bullshit everywhere out here. Good call.” Mari chided as she glanced around, she had been here a time or two but never had wanted to spend enough time to actually use any of the amenities offered. “Maybe with two women of the house this place could get a little remodel and some taste.” She winked at him before glancing between Veda and Alina. Tomorrow was already shaping up to an interesting event and now the crew would be adding a hangover to the mix. How fun.

“Everyone says that you’re so wise yet you’re not brilliant enough to not threaten a man with nothing left to lose. You should be as invested as I am to keep Alina around, it gives you more time to sulk around my fiancé. If you take a look around you’ll quickly realize how fucked all of us are in our relationships, but you’ll also realize that all of your peers here don’t have a choice.” Cy growled and stepped in closer, glaring across the short space at Rune with an orange glow lighting in his eyes. “And don’t forget that you’re on thin ice lately and you’re my only access to information on the shadows. So if you decide you suddenly don’t want to help, I’ll make sure you never see Mari again.” It was a threat that he would likely never actually follow through on, as big of a growl that he had he wasn’t truly sure if he had the heart to do something like that to Mari. Cy only hoped that Rune took it as the truth.

Alina interrupted the interaction from a distance before moving toward them and sliding her hand gently across his back. Cy was able to keep up his hackles for a few moments but it was hard to fight against the calm that came with her touch however how slight. However the moment Rune began to speak again and she walked away his anger was back tenfold, boiling in his stomach as his lion readied itself to tear free. “Watch yourself Rune. You seem to be toeing the line of a real threat. We both know damn well that even without Veda around, Leo and Alina are not in love.” He stood there glaring for a moment as the man walked away and Cy fought the urge to use a gust of wind to knock away the cane in Runes hand. “Hey. I don’t want to owe your for your pseudo help. So a story for a story. My mother used to tell a story to my sisters about lovers who were able to turn the tables and retry their divine moment. Don’t ask me anything else though, I was never able to listen to the whole thing. Now we’re even.”

The thought that there was even a possibility to help Alina was enough to give Cy some hope, and enough to give him a starting point for more research. He looked towards the pool and saw Alina handing a glass of wine to Veda and his heart twisted a bit for her, to be friends with the mate of her fiancé who she wasn’t actually in love with. Cy thought he was in a bad place with Mari but at least his future wife had signs that she chose him, Leo had proof in his gaze that he didn’t choose Alina. Maybe, if these fairytales were ever real, they all had a chance of fixing all of this political mess.

“Good wine?” Cy breathed out as he joined the others, standing nearest to Alina and casting a sideways glance at her as he spoke. “I’m not normally a wine type of man but this smells suitable.” He took a swig and stepped forward a bit to dip his toes in the pool, turning back to Alina with a raised brow and half grin. “Coming in? The water feels pretty nice.”

Matteo Sellis

26.Sagittarius.Incubus.Fire

Matteo was absolutely shocked by the words that came out of Vestas mouth, it wasn’t offensive but it was just so unbelievable to him. First of all hearing that she had wanted to go with him was enough to floor him but following up with what Aiden had told her was… why would Aiden feel the need to lie? He was popular, well placed in society and handsome… there was no need for him to spin some story about Matteo. There was no way that a girl like Vesta would actually go for him more than just a friend or helpful… recharge. The slip of his mind caused a blush to warm his cheeks for a moment before he pushed aside the thoughts and focused back on Vesta. “I don’t have a date.” Why that was the first thing he chose to say as beyond him. “I mean, I would love to come sit by you if there’s space for me Vee. I’m not sure where Aiden got that information, but I never had a date. I was planning on going alone since I figured you would be with your boyfriend.” He cleared his throat from the frog that had seemingly gotten stuck there and swallowed it down with a huge drink. He was a incubus for fucks sake but for some reason this one woman really messed with his heart.

“Hey hold on!” Matteo wasn’t sure exactly what had happened but before he knew it Vesta was off in the direction of her sister along the opposite side of the entrance to the pool and sitting with her against the wall. He wanted to go over there and continue their conversation but he also knew full well that the sisters had done a long time without any real quality time and he hated to interrupt any conversation that seemed to be going without a fight. So instead he slipped into the pool fully, holding his glass carefully as he made his way over to the edge that looked over the spanning lands and let out a few slow breaths as he tried to slow his confused mind.
Behind him Mari was the first to address the entire group and her words caused Matteo to cringe, what anyone saw in that woman was a total loss to him. She always seemed to enjoy stirring the pot more than a sarcastic jab or small prank, it was always truly downright terrible things.

Alina Diaval
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
22. Aquarius. Storm Dragon. Water & Air

The plan was to sit, drink, and enjoy the last day unless Leo decided he'd listen to her and cancel the wedding before the shit show that was tomorrow. Her ocean blue orbs glanced over to Leo and Veda and she felt her heart ache. She had always wanted her divine moment, always dreamed of it being with Cypres, but the stars mocked her. It was to the point she started to curse them, she wanted to mock the stars right back.

"Hm?" She was pulled from her doom and gloom daze at the sound of Cy's voice and it pulled her attention to him. He wanted them to swim? A perfect blonde brow arched as she instantly thought to turn him down, but that damned smile of his was enough to make her heart ache. "Sure. I could go for a swim." Alina offered him a small smile before finishing off the glass of wine. She'd need it to get through the rest of the day.

Alina stood and undid the sash from around her waist, tossing it on the chair before she made her way to the steps of the pool. The sun reflected off of her purple pearlescent scales on her thighs and arms as she stepped into the water, a small smile on her face as she looked up at Cypres. Her fingertips brushed against his beneath the water as she moved past him and she could immediately feel her heart skip a beat. Standing next to the tall Terra heir reminded him of all the feelings she had for him and it drove her crazy.

With a wave of her hand a full glass of wine was being swept off the tray of a waiters and carried to her hand without spilling a drop. "Fae wine is always good at getting you drunk quick. Exhibit A, our little Phoenix over there." Alina motioned towards the drunk red head with her chin, a small smirk on her face as she took another long drink. "A shame we didn't get more time together like this." The thought came out before she could stop them and her face suddenly heated. "Your little wifey is a known party girl, what does she usually make you drink?" She leaned against the glass of the infinity pool and looked up at him.

However, off towards the group of gathered fae Vesta started yelling about something called chicken. Which apparently wasn't a food, it was a game. A weird pool game. However when she started assigning partners Alina and Mari were paired together... and so were Rune and Cy. "You heard the Princess." She gave him a small smile before taking one last drink and setting her glass on the side of the pool. "Good luck, babe." There was a twinkle of mischievousness in those shadow swimming orbs of hers, a flash of that draconic, competitive spirit of Alina's. A quick wink and she was off towards Mari with a small smile. "So... I knock them down with air and you take out their ankles in the water?"

21.Gemini. All four. Phoenix.

Matteo never had a date. While that made Vesta's heart skip a beat it also caused it to ache miserably. Why didn't he ask her to be his date then? Unless all she was good for was just being his friend or helping him recharge. Maybe Aiden knew that and was trying to ease the pain of little Vesta's heart. Or it was clear to everyone but the two of them just how they felt about each other. And, what was that about her boyfriend? Aiden and her weren't dating.

"I think this shit's stronger than what we used to get back at the apartment." Vesta grumbled quietly to her sister as she leaned against the wall next to her. Strong fae wine versus the cheap human swill they got just to pass the time, yeah there was a difference. "You, uh, look happy with the ass-- the, uh, vampire." Already she was fucking up the conversation with her sister. Great. What was new though?

Mari mentioning something about the girls taking over made her physically nauseous. Vesta only came to this realm because Veda went to the realm, nothing in her desired a position of power. She enjoyed the nice lifestyle for once in their life but, she wasn't adept socially. She was a thief, a scrappy little gambler. She'd make a downright shit Queen. "I vote for a game! Waiter, waiter give me another glass please." Vesta waved over the suit wearing waiter and took the glass from him, chugging half the powerful liquid to gain some form of confidence.

"The game is called chicken. Veda's going to sit on Leo's shoulders, and Alina will pair up with Mari. Matteo and I are teaming up, and uh, I guess that leaves Cy and Rune. Figure that one out boys." Whoever was letting the drunk one make the calls should be fired. With that said Vesta swam back over to Matteo and flashed him an awkward smile. "By the way, Aiden's not my boyfriend. He asked me but, I've been kinda waiting for--" Yo, but she couldn't finish the damned sentence. Instead she felt her cheeks heat and she instantly downed the second glass of wine before setting it on the side of the pool.

"We--We've gotta win this. Let's kick their ass." Two ignis users in a pool of aqua users, surely nothing could go wrong.

Rune leaned against his cane as he watched Mari. The reflection of the waves shined off her beautiful features and he couldn't help but feel his heart ache. He wanted to pull her close, hold her, he cursed who he was and what he was. Mari loved him despite all of his faults and he fucked it up. He pushed her away, encouraged her and Cypres to better her life, but in reality he wanted to just take her and run far, far away so that it would just be the two of them. With a deep, rumbling chuckle he shook his head and glanced up at the sky. Fuck the stars. Maybe Cy's ridiculous story could be true, maybe he could get a retry with her?

"No, I get it. I guess that's kind of why I like Matteo. A lot of guys in our position of reject Orders would let it get them down and not pursue anything. He may only be my assistant but it's something. Shit's got a terrible view on himself but he's got a positive attitude about everything." He flashed Mari a small, smile and a shrug. "The stars aren't against the two of them like they are us, so fuck it. I'm on board. I'll work on Matteo, you work on Princess." His face heated from the small bit of contact, once again cursing the dramatic ass stars ."Water. Yeah. Sounds good." A good distraction from picking her up and kidnapping her out of this place... not that he'd make it far in his condition.

Quickly downing all the wine he placed it on a nearby waiters tray, a pained groan slipping from him as he stepped into the water. He placed his cane near the stairs should he need them but, as he got used to the warm water it was easier to move. Which so happened to let him slip over to his favorite loner apprentice. "I hired you because I thought you were fearless. I mean, I've seen you score noble ladies numbers before and I know it wasn't just for friendly chat." A cocky smirk spread on his face as he propped himself up on the wall and leaned against it to give his leg a break. "You're seriously letting a piece of shit dragon come in and swoop in on your girl? Y'know, the only time that girl smiles is around you. Not a once around that asshole. But, who am I to say anything? I just have spies literally all over the citadel." Rune's large pale hand pat Matteo's shoulder. "Either say something now or in a few months we'll be attending their wedding next. Yeah?"

Vesta was announcing the game and that good mood of his instantly fell. Him and Cy. "When you do marry her and become King, don't forget your favorite mentor. I need to retire sooner rather than later." And with that he was off towards Cy, shooting Mari a look that screamed 'kill me fucking now.' "So are you going to get on my shoulders or should you get on mine, Princess?" Stars, kill him now.

"Oh, well if it was just Alina I'm not threatened too much. And yeah, tomorrow is going to be a mess. We might as well do it hungover. Drink up." With a bright grin he took her empty glass and sat it on a nearby table, more than eager to to do any of her bidding. He'd run around the world to get her a damned blanket-- though he was thankful they had plenty here to spare. Bright eyes watched Veda make her way to Vesta and he thought to join them for a minute, but before he stepped in he stopped himself. The girls hadn't spent much time together lately and he knew that was partially (majorly) his fault, and while he didn't regret spending so much time with Veda and bonding with her he knew that the bond they shared was arguably stronger. They were twins, they were all each other had for most of their life. Plus, Vesta wasn't his biggest an.

He finished off his drink just as Mari thought to heckle him and all he could do was roll his eyes and chuckle lightly. "Har har, like you wolves have any sense of interior decorating." A small smirk tugged at his face as he looked back at the blonde and he cocked a brow. Before he could say anything snarky though Veda was inviting him to join. All bets were off. He lost all train of thought and he was instantly at the side of the pool to sit next to them. "Oh, uh, hey Vesta-- and she's gone." A weak chuckle. He supposed he did try to kill the two of them, but how long was she going to hold a grudge? He was mates with her sister for Stars sake.

Chicken? An odd name for a game, but so long as he was partners with Veda he didn't care. "Well babe, I wouldn't let anyone else partner with you. Wound or not you're just going to have to team up with me or play chickens by yourself." With a chuckle he slipped into the water, wincing slightly as the bandage absorbed the water. Nah, nah it'd be fine. "We got this. With my muscles and your water abilities we'll be able to take them out no problem." He turned his back to her and slid towards her on the wall of the pool, patting his broad shoulders. "Hop on babe. Mari! Alina! Get ready, we're taking you out. Aqua and aqua v aqua and rippling Ignis hunk, I know who my money is on."

21.Gemini.All Four. Siren.

The raven haired twin couldn’t help but giggle at her fiery haired counterpart as she spoke. “I think it’s a LOT stronger sis.” Veda beamed over at the other woman and took in her face for a long moment, it was insane how much different they both looked without actually looking much different but there was a certain otherworldly beauty that Vesta now possessed that made her seem so much more at home. More like they belonged here. More than they ever had back in the human realm. “And it’s okay, he was an ass. He kind of still is an ass. But I love him.” How easily the words left her mouth were an absolute shock to her for a moment, her throat letting out a choked chuckle as she quickly tried to move on from what she had just said so blatantly in front of everyone. Saying that she loved Leo meant more to her than a mate bond, the mate bond felt right and was essentially a soul mate yeah but she hadn’t been raised here, it wasn’t a concept that she had dreamed of finding her whole life. Finding someone who truly loved her and who she truly loved? That felt so much more real than she was normally comfortable with. Veda could tell that her sister was looking for that in Matteo, she could feel that flow between the two of them but she also knew they were both more emotionally stunted than Rune and Mari, just in a less dramatic and brooding way. “What about you- how are things with Aiden? Or you know who.” She waggled her eyebrows at her sister as
Leo made his way over to join them, she wasn’t sure how much Vesta would discuss in general let alone with added company but she hoped the two could learn how to get along quickly. However it seemed like any moment of peace had to be quickly ruined my Mari’s smart mouth. Her comment made Veda glare daggers across the room, eyes flashing with irritation for a moment before losing focus as Vesta yelled about a game. “Woah hold on!”

However there was no waiting. Not with a bunch of bullheaded people and a drunk Vesta at the helm.

“You can’t ever just listen to reason can you?” Veda rolled her eyes as she watched Leo lower himself into the water, her eyes traveling to his bandage as he winced. “Leo seriously- maybe we should sit this one out.” But there was clearly no way that was going to happen, before she was even able to finish her sentence the man was backing up into her and squatting down to offer up his shoulders. If he was in any sort of pain he wasn’t showing it much, in fact he seemed to be in an overly confident mood considering the fact that Mari or Alina could likely take out Veda any day of the week if they truly wanted. “Okay- whatever you say. But who’s the rippling Ignis hunk you’re talking about? I’d like to meet him.” Her voice was laced with mischief as she moved forward, running her hands over his shoulders for a moment before situating herself for the stupid game about to take place. For a moment everything kind of felt normal, it felt like this life wasn’t a fucking shit show and like she was just a girl hanging out with the people she loved, well some people she loved and some people she tolerated. “If I even sense any wincing I will go limp and fall on demand. Mosquito boy.” Her fingers scratched gently at his hair for a moment from where she sat on his shoulders before looking up over at Mari and Alina. How bad could it be? Maybe Leo had a point, just a quick easy round and then could be done!

“So boring now Leo, all bright eyed and bushy tailed. Snore.” Mari rolled her eyes at his lack of response and went back to observing everyone around her as she sipped at her wine. She was actively trying to not stare at and yearn for Rune but his voice instantly pulled her attention back to him and she felt the familiar clench of her chest. Fuck the stars for making it so hard to even have a casual conversation with him now, before everything it was difficult enough with their clear tension but now it was just fucking heartbreaking. “He’s a good kid.” Mari spoke gently, taking another sip before continuing. “That sounds condescending, but I mean it. As much shit as I like to give him, I can see that he works hard. I respect that in people.” Mari may have been a spoiled stuck up bitch, but it didn’t mean she was lazy. She couldn’t stand the type of people who just sat around and expected things to happen, it wasn’t the way she was raised. “Deal.” A small smirk played on her lips as she watched Rune head over to Matteo before her eyes landed on Vesta and her twin. The woman was already blitzed, this would be cake.

“Hey, Vesta.” Mari sung as she set down her glass on the edge of the pool as raised a brow at the girl who was loudly announcing some game. “Let’s make it more interesting yeah? The team that loses each round must answer one question from their opponent. Sound fair?” There was a twinkle in her eye as she looked to Rune, hoping he would get the hint to handle that and point blank ask Matteo. She supposed the plan could backfire on them but… there was no way that Vesta and Matteo could take out the boys? Even with them injured. So this should be a definite!

“Oh, one hundred percent. You know me, I don’t like losing. I’ll poke the fucker in the wound and prove his little girlfriend right that he shouldn’t be in the water.” Mari snickered and went down onto her knees in the water so just her head was above surface level. “Go ahead Alina, we have some pots to stir girlie.”

The pool was a nice change of pace, he wasn’t big on swimming or anything like that but he had to admit it felt nice to finally slow down and truly have time to just breathe. Of course it didn’t hurt that he had also gotten Alina to agree to actually be within feet of him and talk. That was rare these days. The pair was wading in the water to join the others when their hands barely touched each other and Cy felt his body go still for a moment. It took everything in him to not reach out for more, to not take her hand or even give it a gentle squeeze… he didn’t want to push the fact that she was actually entertaining him and not avoiding him. “Always has been.” Cy chuckled as Alina took another glass of wine. “Just tastes like expired fruit juice and sugar. Though you’ve always seemed to like it. And apparently so does she.” He followed Alina’s glance as she mentioned Vesta and felt another chuckle rise in his throat. It was so funny to him that just a few months ago these two girls were public enemy number one and now here they all were drinking and having a good time. Veda and Leo were even… involved. It was a nice thought. It was even nice to be a part of. But Cy knew he wouldn’t last, it couldn’t last. Right now they were all protected in their naive bubble away from their rulers and parents but the world would come back with a vengeance likely sooner rather than later and the fact of the matter was that the girls were a threat to their own dreams and hopes.

“It is a shame.” Cy said simply, finally looking back at her with a gentle smile, he meant that in two ways. It was a shame to know this friendliness between them all wouldn’t last. But even more so it was a shame to know that Alina and him had spent so long trying to hide their feelings and keep from crossing lines that the had missed out of a lot of things even as friends. Things like this. They hadn’t done something like this since they were far younger. Cy went to speak more but Vesta was being loud about some game and while he had been attempting to ignore it, the announcement of his partner made him spin to face her.“Excuse me? No way.” Cy said it like it was set in stone, it was as far as he was concerned, there was no way in hell he was going to haul Rune up on his shoulders or vice versa! The two of them would end up in a brawl before that even happened.

However Alina was off with a smile and wink and as much as he wanted to bail on the game, that right there was enough to completely change his mind. Rune made his way to him and Cy couldn’t help but laugh straight in the man’s face. “Please! You can’t even hold up your own body weight without a cane right now. You’re riding bitch buddy.”

“Rune come on man.” Matteo groaned as his face heated from the topic at hand. Of all people he thought would give him shit about this sort of thing, Rune was very low on that list. “It’s not that I don’t want to, or that im scared. It’s that it just won’t work out anyways, so why ruin a good friendship ya know?” He shrugged his shoulders a bit defeated as he finished off his glass of wine. “I mean we’re not mates or anything right? Even if we were it’s not like it would matter. It’s like-“ The two didn’t talk about this sort of thing ever and it didn’t take a genius to realize Mari and Rune were a sore subject. But still… “it’s not like you two but it is in a way. Even if Vesta wanted to be with me, it wouldn’t last and would hold her down in the long run. I’m barely good enough to be allowed in the citadel, you think that if she was my partner people would take her seriously at all Rune?” When the waiter came by Matteo swiped another glass of wine and downed it without hesitation, an attempt at trying to escape the awkward that he had created. “Aiden won’t last. I hope not at least. But maybe she’ll find someone who makes her smile and won’t destroy her reputation. Got any spies who can find a guy like that for her?” He sighed at Rune, slumping a bit against the wall as he watched the man move away and head towards Cypres for the game that Vesta had just announced.

Was Rune right? Did Vesta really only smile like that around him? The thought of that made his heart flutter in a way that only deepened the embarrassment he felt currently. Which wasn’t very helpful when Vesta rejoined him and mentioned Aiden. “Wait he’s not?” Matteo couldn’t help but stammer out the words as he stared down at her. “He definitely said he was. More than once.” He chuckled nervously as he spoke, his eyes looking over her face for any sign of her joking but she seemed serious. Aiden had been bragging to multiple people about bagging the phoenix twin as his girlfriend but maybe things weren’t as he claimed…

“You’re right Vee, we got this!”

Riding bitch. There was no stopping his eye twitching from irritation. Cy had a point, he wouldn't be able to support both of their weight at this point, but it was just his tone. His demeanor... it was just the fact that Cy existed that drove him insane. Stars, he prayed that the girls succeeded in these trials so that Cy never got the crown. "Yeah, yeah. Just shut up and don't drop me." Vines lifted from a nearby potted plant and wrapped around Rune's waist, lifting him up so that he was placed onto Cy's shoulders. The man had been in thousands of uncomfortable positions but this? This took the cake.

Face to face with the drunken ignis duo he couldn't help but smirk to himself. This would be like taking candy from a baby. "I thought you said you two weren't anything but friends. You're quite comfortable touching her bare skin like that though. Does that mean--" A wide smirk spread on Rune's usually hardened expression and he couldn't help the chuckle that escaped him. "Matteo! I am so proud of you." He knew what he was saying would completely go over Vesta's head, but Matteo would understand the innuendo. He waited for the secure grip on Vesta to weaken before he gave one firm push to Vesta's shoulders, watching the small woman plummet into the water.

Truly an unfair pairing considering Rune on top of Cy made for a massive opponent. The tall serpent pushed himself off of the pain in the ass heir and leaned against the side of the pool with a small yawn. "So Matteo, why haven't you told Vesta how much you like her again?" Either Matteo lied and broke Vesta's heart, or he told the truth and they cleared the fucking air of this awkwardness. All Rune knew was his assistant needed to stop brooding over this secret crush he had and just be fucking honest with her.

"Ladies, it's your turn to take down Veda and her brute."

Veda was happy, she was finally happy. Their life in the human realm had been so rough and questionable at times, all Vesta had ever waned for her sister to be comfortable and happy. Now she was with Leo, a man that would always provide a comfortable life for her no matter what, he'd keep her safe, and as her mate he'd love her. The stars didn't have that in Vesta's cards. She had fallen for the most kind, charming, and funny guy that she had ever met, her first crush, first love. He was also an incubus and clearly didn't see her anything more than a simple friend.

"Well he's not. I've never dated anyone before. He's just a friend I've been hanging out with to distract myself from--" from her crush on Matteo. The drunkard bit her tongue before she could finish the words, a small smile tugging at her lips instead. "Here. Help me up. Let's push your gimpy boss into the water, yeah?" Vesta offered him a gentle smile as she moved behind him, her small stature using his help to climb up his muscular back. Thankfully she was far more afraid of water than she was of heights. "What would we even ask the two of them when we win? Uh, sure. Deal?" The deal Mari wanted to make was odd, but she wasn't ever going to turn down a bet she thought she'd win.

Rune and Cy still towered over them and, gimpy or not, they made a formidable opponent. None of them were water users though so they had this! However as they approached them rune was making a comment on how Matteo was securely holding onto her and she couldn't help but feel confused. "Matteo what's he going on about?" Long lashes blinked curiously as she looked down at the dark haired man. "H-Hey, wait-" His grip on her loosened and in that moment Rune sent Vesta flying back into the water.

She shot out of the water sputtering water out of her mouth and feeling her face heat. She'd of punched Rune if it hadn't of been for his question, the question that made her entire body freeze. "You... like me?" Vesta looked up at Matteo as she pushed the copper locks out of her face, those golden flecked orbs of hers lighting up as she met his gaze. A deep blush spread across her cheeks and her heart did little flips in her chest. She had swore that what kept happening between them was simply because he needed a recharge, and she could never fault him for that because it was in his nature.

"I thought you didn't like me so that's why I've been hanging around Aiden so much. So I could get over how much I liked you." Thank the stars for liquid courage, she would've never said anything like that sober.

It really was a shame. Maybe one day her and Cy could be friends, maybe more then, they could just live life according to how they wanted to live it. Her and Marigold could truly be friends once more and not fight over a guy or their place in society, her and Leo could be the annoying siblings they were meant to be. Veda wouldn't be uncomfortable with their relationship.... It seemed like her wish would never come to fruition though. In another life, maybe. For now she'd live out her final night having fun with her loved ones. More specifically, she'd have fun with her old friend by cheating and winning the game.

"Yes, yes. You both are obsessed with each other and have been too blind to notice. Congratulations, now get out of the way so we can knock Leo down the high horse he lives on." A thin strand of water wrapped around her midsection and lifted Alina so that she was situated on top of her old friend. Her bright blues looked from Leo to Veda with a small smirk on her face. Alina and Marigold were women of high standing, it wasn't for the feint of heart. The two of them had always been competitive, not with just one another but with literally everyone they had ever encountered in their life. This game was no different.

"As the healer of the group Leo I have advised you to stay out of the water so you could rest. Seems like I'll have to take Veda under my wing and teach her how to heal you every time your dumb ass gets wounded." Besides the winning aspect of this, teaching Leo a lesson seemed like a win in and of itself. Suddenly the wind around them began to pick up and pushed at Veda; nothing to hurt the woman, but just enough to make it hard for Leo to keep her upright.

Alina could've used the currents to knock Leo off of his feet, but she didn't want to take all of the fun from Mari.

"YOU don't confuse my happiness with being boring. Just because I'm not some dark, brooding, scary war commander doesn't mean I'm boring. And if YOU call anyone a hunk besides yours truly, I'm killing them. Personally. With my bare hands. That'll be the first law I enact as King." With ease Leo stood to his feet, his hands holding securely onto Veda as he straightened to a standing position. Just as he did Rune heckled Matteo before pushing Vesta into the water and all he could do was let out an obnoxiously loud laugh. "Oh, shit, Matteo, for an incubus you really do get flustered so easily." He let one of Veda's legs go so he could wipe a tear from his eye, his shoulders still jostling slightly as his laughter died down. "Wait, really? Red and him? Seriously?" Leo's bright blues peeked back up at Veda to see if she knew about it too. "Who was gonna let me in on that secret?"

Suddenly Mari and Alin were in front of them and all he could do was chuckle. Maybe he'd be afraid of them in their order form, but like this? They were just two little ladies. Not intimidating in the slightest. "Hey, hey, hey. I don't live on a high horse Alina, and Veda doesn't need a mentor. She's doing a damned good job learning all on her own. I will, however, show her what sore losers you are." Just as he said that the wind began to push on Veda and it made his grip tighten, strong muscles flexing as he refused to let his woman fall. "Foul play!" He growled quietly and stepped towards them to let Veda push Alina down, only, as he stepped he could feel currents whipping around him and trying to knock him over. "Air and water? C'mon-- Ack!" It was like the water punched him in the gut and it completely took his breath away. He dropped to his knees, still holding onto Veda as he did and inevitably dunking the two of them.

By the time he caught he was able to move again he wrapped his arms around Veda's waist and popped back out of the water, long blonde locks now clinging to his face as he coughed up the water that he had breathed in. "Cheating bitches!" Leo spoke through gritted teeth, obviously a sore loser, and quickly pushed some of the hair out of his face. His attention went back down at Veda and he flashed her a small grin. "Yeah, sorry. You okay? I think I need a rest." His stomach was fucking aching after the punch, though after all the shit he had given the girls in the past he honestly had it coming.

Why was Rune picking on him like this all of a sudden? This wasn’t necessarily rare but it was something new that he was doing it in front of everyone, especially Vesta! Matteo had tried to keep his head in the game and really focus but the shock of his question and Vestas response had him distracted and turning beet red. Before Matteo had a full grasp on what was happening the two of them were falling to the water below and for a moment he considered not coming up for air out of sheer fucking embarrassment but he figured that was a bit over dramatic. So instead he quickly stood and shook the water from his long hair before turning to make sure Vesta was okay.

Apparently she was considering she didn’t even take a breath once she resurfaced before sputtering out her question.

The option to lie went though his head for a moment before logic thankfully took over and Matteo opened his mouth to speak. “Yeah- I do.” It was a simple answer but it was the truth, he was completely enamored with her. For a second it was like everyone else was gone until all of their comments seemed to breakthrough the moment, mostly Alina’s that caused him to chuckle awkwardly and help Vesta up to move out of the way. The two of them found the ledge of the large pool to get away from the others, and their ears. “I just- I was worried you didn’t see me that way.” Matteo was worried about more than that but it wasn’t the talk to have now, not around everyone and not when they had both been drinking. It was too heavy to talk about how he was worried about political things, right now they should just try their best to enjoy this. “I had a huge crush on you when you first came here, then I got to actually know you and it turned into something a lot more than just a crush. But by then we were already friends, you needed a friend… not some guy to try and be more.” He paused, smiling over at her and pushing some of her wet hair back from her face gently. “However it was really hard to not cross some boundaries, clearly.” As the memory of their time in the outpost resurfaced his face went warm and his eyes flashed with a touch of red in them. “ edge of fucking rather than just going in you fucking moron if you’re gonna catch the ball.”I guess what I’m getting at here is, want to blow off Aiden and be my date to the wedding tomorrow Vee? It would make me the happiest man in the world I think.”

A butler came into the room to let them all know dinner would be ready within the hour and Matteo only hoped that would make all the others get a fucking move on so he could have at least a few minutes alone with Vesta without having to find some corner to hide in or go to their rooms and get all the others, namely Rune, going again. “Need to go get ready for dinner or want to hang out a bit longer and pray the others all fuck off with me?”

“I have to imagine there will be bigger issues to deal with than that.” Veda let out a snort and ruffled Leo’s hair from where she sat on his shoulders. A snort that only tumbled into a full laughing fit when her sister and Matteo were tossed into the water with a splash that reached her where they stood. Leo was nearly crying with his own laughter and it made Veda smile brightly, the lightness of the situation not lost on her. The ability to laugh with them all like this was so nice and she could feel that mostly everyone was in good spirits. “Who couldn’t see it? Might be time to get your eyes checked Leo, wait do fae even have that issue? Is that a thing?” Veda shrugged as she looked from Leo over to Vesta and Matteo, her smile widening at the awkward scene between the two of them. Vesta had never been the most eloquent with her words but at least it seemed like the pair were finally getting their point across… despite the razzing from the others.

“Alina’s right, shoo love birds.” With a little shift suddenly her and Leo were facing a few intense looking Mari and Alina, the two women holding the most devilish smirks she had seen in a while and causing her to swallow nervously. Maybe Leo should have listened to her! This was just screaming that he was going to end up in fucking pain. “Hey! Don’t say that because I will GLADLY take a teacher. Although for the purpose of trash talk… yeah! What he said!” Veda put on a mostly false bravado and prepared for the showdown, her hands pointing palm outwards as she began to swirl the water around the two women. However, they beat her to the point and before she knew what had happened she was plunging into the water with a scream.

Leo never let her go once and as the two of them came up from below the surface a shriek of laughter escaped her, her hands moving to push his hair from his eyes as he started to complain. “They just beat us to cheating Leo.” Veda said with a smile, her thumbs rubbing over his jaw for a moment before her hands fell from his face and rested on his chest. “Im okay, really. Siren remember? Pretty hard for water to bother me.” Beyond them she noticed Matteo and Vesta giggling in the corner and it filled her heart with a bit of hope, maybe the girls could be truly happy here. “Rest sounds good, want some help changing the bandage before dinner?”

Veda spun out of Leo’s arms and took his hand to lead him out of the pool before using her wind to dry them both off. “Actually shouldn’t everyone probably go get dressed?” She looked past Leo and to all of the others in the pool besides her sister and Matteo. Her face was a stern, I’m not asking I’m telling, look in an attempt to get some alone time for her sister. “On that note, come on mosquito boy. Let’s get you feeling better.” The two of them made their way towards Leo’s room and once inside Vesta turned to him with a gentle smile, “I’m not going to say I told you so but maybe it’s in your best interest to accept that I’m normally right. Now go change into some comfier pants and then we will get that bandage changed out okay?”

While it was always fun to absolutely humiliate overconfident men, it something far more interesting to shut down Leo as he talked all the smack he was talking. Do that was exactly what they did, it wasn’t technically against the rules since Vesta didn’t really share any rules. So the only thing to feel moderately bad about was hurting Leo, though Mari wasn’t far too concerned about that bit. “Hey! Watch your mouth bloodsucker. We won fair and square. Now listen to your girlfriend and go get your booboo tended to. She flipped Leo the bird before checking in on the Vesta and Matteo situation across the water. It seemed her and Runes little plan worked out, good. It was becoming insufferable to listen to the two of them whine about each other and be so fucking clueless.

“Ah, ah, ah not so fast kids. Alina and I have a prize for winning.” Mari turned her viper like stare onto Leo and Veda as they dried off, honestly she had nothing against the two of them… this whole thing was a set up to force either Matteo or Vesta into speaking… but Cy… Cy needing a fucking attitude adjustment. “Leo, how does it truly feel to finally be vindicated? Everyone used to think you were the worst and that Cy was the nice one. Now you have your mate and your fiancé still on your side while all he has is me.”

Stirring the pot the way that she had wasn’t her best idea ever. In fact it only made Mari more fucking upset overall with everything. All her picking at Cy had done was remind her that he was all she had too, choosing this path was one that isolated her from the one person who ever really understood her. Being with Cy had ruined her friendship with Alina a long time ago and it likely wouldn’t help it in the future. On top of all that the constant drama just pushed everyone away from them, understandably. So after swimming and heading back to her room to get dressed for dinner, Mari drank. A lot. So much so that even a woman like her with a taste for alcohol and a high tolerance was feeling like she had made a bit of a mistake. Of course getting dressed when she was drunk resulted in Mari returning to the opulent dining area in a pair of grey sweatpants and a black sweatshirt with her still damn curls in a bun. No shits given.

“This is enough for a fucking entire first rank.” Mari grunted as she slid into a chair, sitting with her legs crossed under her as she reached for the already filled glass of wine at her place. “It is just us here right? I don’t think my brain can handle the company of the entire fam damnily.”

“Why are you like this?” Cy let out a shaky breath at Mari as he spoke from his spot leaning on the nearby steps of the pool. After Rune had finished things with Matteo and Vesta, he had simply sat back and watched the rest of everything go down while sipping his wine. However in typical Mari fashion she seemed to need to find some way to make everyone fucking uncomfortable. Well mostly himself or Alina. He and Mari were family at this point, he cared about her wellbeing and knew her well enough to understand why she was the way that she was to a point. But ever since her and Rune turning down their bond it was like she was taking out all her anguish on him. She was the one who made this choice! Cy had nothing to fucking do with that part. “Oh Mari you’re so smart! Stars how can anyone have said no to wit like yours. No wonder Rune didn’t want to go through with your fucking star bond.”

Cy stood up and made his way over to his t shirt on the back of a chair and pulled it on before turning back to Mari, glancing between her and Alina. “No wonder she stopped being your friend too. You’re constantly willing to shit on her or poke fun at her for the sake of a laugh. Only less and less people are laughing with you.”

-

Cy stormed off to his room after the interaction with Mari and honestly he didn’t intend on joining anyone for dinner. He was already in a foul enough mood considering that the woman he loved was getting married in less than twenty four hours, he didn’t need to add on more bullshit to the point. So instead he decided to get dressed and lay in bed, staring at the ceiling sounded better than spending more time with any of those assholes.

"Cy?" The sweet voice was paired with two small knocks on the bedroom door. Her forehead pressed against to the cool wood with a small sigh, her long lashes closing over as she fully contemplated what she was about to do. Coming to comfort him was a terrible idea, surely she was the last person he wanted to see right now. Mari was the ideal candidate, right? His soon to be wife, apparently the only one on his side... but Alina was always on his side. If that was how Mari saw it then did Cy think the same?

With a small, encouraging breath she opened the door and stepped inside. Now wearing a light blue velvet dress, her long locks tied into twin braids that fell down her back, she had contemplated going to the dinner but couldn't knowing he was still held up in the room. And seeing him stare at the ceiling with the anger rolling off of him, well, it broke her heart.

"Well, I don't think the pool was as fun as Leo intended." Alina spoke with a playful smile as she closed the door behind her, though there was an almost sympathetic tone to her voice. "I'm sorry." Quietly she made her way over to the bed to sit next to him, her shadow stained blues gazing down at him with a sad smile on her face. "I mess everything up lately. Things with Mari, you, with Leo, and now I'm even getting between you and Mari." Thin fingers smoothed his light brown hair a few times in attempts to comfort him... both of them. It'd be the last time she'd ever be able to be here for him like this and it gutted her, so much so that tears threatened to spill from her eyes.

"I hope you know that Mari isn't the only one in your corner. I love you Cy, I'll always be your number one cheerleader." It was still so odd to say the words, but at this point they knew how each other felt and it wasn't worth trying to hide. Everyone knew, and everyone knew they'd never be able to be with each other. "You know the ignis kitchen makes a mean steak. We could join the others... or order room service. Hold up in here and just forget the rest of the world for a little while? What do you think?" Her last night with her best friend. What could go wrong?
