23.Scorpio.Werewolf.Water

Just listening to Alina was heart breaking, knowing how altruistic the woman was being made Mari respect her more. The girls had been good friends when they were younger but time and Mari’s relationship with Cypres ruined that. Mari had been aware of Alina’s crush of Cy but that was when they were children! She had thought it was just that, a silly little childhood crush! So when Mari and Cy became partners in one of their classes and began spending more and more time together, their relationship just happened naturally. Mari had never thought it would hurt Alina that badly, and back then Mari was even meaner than she was now… shockingly. If all those years ago she had just stood up to her father, if she had not let him get under her skin and make her feel like she had to seek status elsewhere then maybe things wouldn’t be this fucked up now. “I appreciate that Alina, truly.” Mari tried her best to sound happy, to feign the bliss that Alina seemed to believe she and Cy had. Until recently she had been happy or at least content, it wasn’t until things finally clicked with Rune that she became miserable.

“Leo likes the fish then huh?” Mari chuckled softly as she tried to think of anything but the brutal fight occurring in front of her. “That’s sweet and all but don’t you think it’ll hurt them more in the long run to let them play house? There’s no way your mother lets either of you out of your wedding without hell to pay.” Then Alina said something that made her spine stiffen and her gaze return to the ground. Had Alina seen her eyes ? Had Mari allowed her guard to fall for too long? If anyone were to connect the dots it would seem as if Alina would be the best person because she was so damn nice but that didn’t mean that Mari wanted anyone to know. “I haven’t given up that mu-“

The sound of crashing stone made Mari jump up from the bench and return her attention to the fight. Cy had been thrown to the side and was standing up slowly, bloodied and rage boiling in his eyes. “Okay this is going too far guys!” Mari screamed over to them from where her and Alina sat. It felt as if her heart was in her fucking stomach and her legs ready to collapse. It only made it worse when she felt his gaze on her, it caused her hair to stand on the back of her neck and a shiver to run down her spine. Mari only got to look at the concern on his face for a moment before he was being thrown into the stone wall of the arena with a wet thud that made Mari falter and drop to a knee. Her eyes went wide as she watched him lay there for a moment before he slowly began to get up, the blood and clearly visible pain on his face making her breath escape her. Then the rage came and made it hard for Mari to control her wolf from taking over, it made it even harder for her to fight the urge to shred Cy to pieces right then and there. “No! You’re done! You’re both fucking done!” Mari finally found her voice and screamed as she stood, looking back at Alina for a moment before speaking more quietly. “Please go help him.”

Then Mari turned and looked at Rune again for a long moment, her heart screaming at her to go to him. But she couldn’t, running to another man while her fiancé lied just as hurt would be the nail in the coffin. Mari just had to trust in Alina to understand and help Rune. Then she was off, quickly jogging over to where Cy stood still in attack mode and grabbing his face between her hands. First she looked him over, no deadly injuries. Second, she snapped. “Just what in the HELL is wrong with you? You think I want you to fight for my honor? You think I want you to fight like this at all? Putting yourself through shit like this when you know there are real threats nearby is absolutely idiotic Cypres!” In all honesty she wanted to hit him, to slap him across the face and scream at him for this. He had been basically airing out all of their dirty laundry and while most people wouldn’t look or read into it more, she was still so fucking angry. Mari gave up her mate to make this relationship work and Cy was self sabotaging at every fucking corner.

“Please stop making this harder on us both.” Mari sighed, leaning forward and resting her forehead against his. “We may not be in love Cy but you know I love you. Everyone has sacrificed so much and going back now would mean nothing. Alina is getting married, we are engaged and that is that. I’m trying so hard to do the right thing, please stop fighting it. You said you were going to do the same yet you pull this stunt Cy!”

Matteo Sellis
。 ₊°༺❤︎༻°₊ 。
26.Sagittarius.Incubus.Fire

Was Vesta mad at him or something? Her arms were crossed as she stormed off towards the tower and Matteo followed with his mind scrambling to figure out what in the hell he had done wrong. Was it not wanting her help with finding a way to recharge? Being upset at that was going to be a fun way to work his way out of, how did Matteo explain that he didn’t want her to help because he wanted HER without admitting her wanted HER. It wasn’t like he didn’t want to tell her, it was that he was fucking terrified to do it. Right now they twins were still at the beginning of a long and hard journey that he didn’t want to make any worse by getting his mess tangled up in theirs. The fact of the matter was that Matteo was an outcast and despite all his hard work would likely never be more than the assistant to another outcast like Rune. There was no way that if the girls were able to satisfy the council and take their thrones that they would be allowed to chose someone of Matteo’s status to be in their circle let alone stand at their side.

Matteo followed her silently, tiring as they reached the top floor and finally Vestas door. “What did you forget that was so important ?” He yawned as he entered her room, his eyes squeezing shut in the action so he didn’t even notice as Vesta neared him until her lips were crashing awkwardly against his in a way that caused his eyes to shoot open in shock. Without thinking he pulled away, only a fraction of an inch to look over her face for a moment as the feeling over her kiss not only made his heart start to race but also made the warmth of magic begin to churn in his chest. His mouth opened to speak to her, to ask her why she kissed him or if she had been brainwashed or something crazy but instead of words forming on his lips, they were pressing against hers again.

Matteo didn’t pull away from Vesta as he kicked the door shut in one smooth motion before sliding a hand along her jaw before tangling it in her hair while his other moved to rest on her hip. The two of them moved forward until Matteo had backed her into the desk in her room and pressed her against it, in turn moving closer to her. This embrace was much more practiced than her initial attempt, his lips sliding over hers with greed and passion as his order began to cloud his own rational thought and judgement. Matteo had dreamed about it kissing Vesta, about holding her and confessing his love to her but this was nothing like he had imagined, nothing like he had hoped. He had wanted to treat her like the princess she was, give her a beautiful confession and offer her the side of him that was sweet and gentle. He never wanted their first kiss to be when he was this starved, when he had nearly no control over himself and his need overwhelmed him. The thought was thankfully enough to make Matteo push away from her, slamming back against the door with a few heavy breaths as his eyes went from their fiery gaze and faded back to near normal. “Dammit Vee, I’m so sorry I- I didn’t want to lose control like that. I’m so fucking sorry.” He ran a hand over his face out of sheer embarrassment, he couldn’t believe himself. “I won’t let myself get this drained again okay? I won’t let you have to worry about taking care of me like this. It isn’t fair to you.”

Cypres Ettery
~𑁍~

26.Capricorn.Nemean Lion. Earth & Air

This was years worth of anger and frustrations coming out of Cypres in this battle, not against Rune but against life in general. Unfortunately for Rune, he had to be the one to break the final string. Especially with the shit he was choosing to say, it was resonating due to its truth but pissing him off more due to its hypocrisy. “And you think she would pick me? Mari may have walked away from her mating bond but it wasn’t for my sake and we both know that. I care about her and she cares about me but I know her well enough to know this is for her journey more than mine. I’m simply a participant in her chess game.” The men went back and forth as they exchanged punches, both of them seeming to be releasing some primal aggression before turning to their powers. Well at least that’s what Cy had thought until he was being tossed like a ragdoll.

Cy hit the ground with a thud but thankfully he was able to get control of his wind well enough to soften the blow and turn his body to land on his ass instead of his back or neck. That was fucking it. He stood and prepared to run at the man until he saw Rune’s eyes on Mari, hers on him. It made his own mind wander to Alina who sat on the bench, smiling sadly as she gazed at the star crossed couple and tried her best to understand and be happy for them all. That was when he fucking lost it. A huge gust of wind came from the sky and threw Rune into the wall with a powerful force, Cy began walking toward him with raised arms to pull in rocks to encase the man but before he could Mari began to scream at them. “Whatever.” Cy scoffed, lowering his arms and wobbling a little where he stood as Mari raced over to grab him.

As she scolded him, Cy looked over her shoulder to stare at Alina, to try and remind himself that loving her was selfish, that being with her was impossible and that maybe someday he could accept that. But right now it still just felt so fucking impossible. “Mari, shut the fuck up.” Cy groaned and placed his hands on her waist as his eyes finally moved to hers when she pressed her forehead to his. “I’ll do better the moment you do too. The day you stop looking at him that way is the day I stop looking at her that way.”

Alina Diaval
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
22. Aquarius. Storm Dragon. Water & Air

Alina had been living in her selfless bubble since that day in the dining hall, the day Leo and Mari put a stop to her and Cy's friendships. It was what was getting her by, what would get her through the wedding and through the rest of her life. However that forced smile on her face fell at the realization of what Mari said. Leo and Veda would never truly get to be happy together because of Alina. If Leo wanted to call off the relationship there'd of been hell to pay, but his mother would support him and his father would listen to his wife. Alina's mother was a narcissist, cold hearted bitch who only sought to up her own station. Helena herself couldn't have married a king and instead married a kings brother, but Alina's union to a future king would make her the mother of royalty. There was no way she would allow Alina to leave this relationship even if Leo wanted out. The only way Leo and Veda could be together was if--

Her shoulders relaxed a bit and she leaned back into the bench. If Alina was gone then this unending pain in her chest would finally stop, Veda and Leo would be free to pursue whatever they wanted to, and Cy-- He wouldn't miss her. Alina didn't fit in his future and he made that clear. Suddenly there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Something needed to happen to her before the wedding, she just didn't know what yet.

However her attention quickly went to Cy as he was thrown across the arena and it made her physically wince. Her hands balled into fists to prevent her from running over to make sure he was okay despite how much her heart told her to run to him, so much so that her sharp dragon nails pierced her skin and drew blood. He was quick to get up though and retaliate in a way that knocked the distracted Rune into a wall. "I'm on it." Thankfully Mari was putting a stop to the fight and she took off to tend to Rune. "Here, let me--" She paused once she made eye contact with Rune and her heart stopped. That was why Rune and Mari couldn't stop staring at each other. Her heart suddenly broke for her friend. "Just sit still for a minute."

Glowing hands scanned from his bloodied face, down his neck, and down to his chest so she could heal the multiple broken bones. The fae were a strong sturdy breed so that alone spoke volumes on how hard he hit the wall. "Don't take your eye off the enemy. That was rule number one, remember?" She shot him a small smile before making her way over towards Cy and Mari, the small woman doing her best to smile sweetly at the two like it wasn't killing her inside. "You look okay Ettery. I don't see any wounds." No Cy, no Cypres, she addressed him as professional as she could. This was the closest he'd of been able to see her in a week, he'd be able to see how tired and frail she looked. Those bright cerulean eyes turned to Mari and motioned back to Rune. "He's all fixed up. I'd feel a lot better if he had an escort back to his room, and we all know I'm not strong enough to help him. I'm pretty sure your betrothed might take another shot at him if he helps him back. Do you mind helping him?"

Alina couldn't help Rune and Mari be together, but she could at least give them an excuse to be together for a few minutes. "And it doesn't seem like you guys need a healer anymore so I'll just head back to Aqua."

Vesta “Smith”
✴︎⋆✴︎⋆✴︎
21.Gemini. All four. Phoenix.

There was a split second that Matteo had pulled away but he had closed the small gap between their lips, a notion that sent her heart into complete overdrive. Vesta didn't care about what some council had to say, she didn't care what others would say, or even her own sister; she treasured Matteo and there was no one that would keep her from him.

For a moment everything was perfect-- beyond perfect, she'd argue. Their second kiss Matteo took the lead and it was probably for the best. The sudden eagerness of the kiss lit her entire body on fire in a much different way than transforming into the phoenix did. She followed his every lead as she stepped back into the desk, quickly learning the art of kissing as she returned every passionate movement of their lips. It felt as if they had both wanted to do this for a while and it made her heart soar, her soft fingertips drifting down to his shirt so she could grip onto the fabric and pull him closer to her.

But then that perfect moment ended and he left Vesta standing there completely confused and wide eyed. Long lashes blinked over those emerald and golden orbs of hers as she watched Matteo run his hand over his face, the notion paired with his words only breaking her fragile little heart. All that was for him was a charge, it meant nothing for him. Matteo did something like this every time and-- and Vesta should've expected that. He was her first crush, her first kiss, and now her first heartbreak. All those feelings she had for him were unrequited and the only reason he returned her pathetic little kiss was because he needed to charge.

"I-It's okay." Her usual confident voice waivered and she quickly wiped a tear that escaped her eye. No, he could break her heart but she wouldn't let him see her cry. "I'm happy I could help. We can just, forget it ever happened." Though on the inside she knew she wouldn't be able to ever forget. Hell, she didn't know how she'd be able to look him in the eyes ever again. All those feelings had only amplified for him after that kiss and it gutted her that he didn't feel the same.

"I mean I do love her. Just like, I dunno. It's not a romantic kind of love and I know the same could be said for her. We grew up together so maybe more like, siblings?" It was hard to describe the relationship between the two of them but he hoped that she understood what he was trying to say. He made sure to avert his eyes and not peek over the rock as she changed, his gaze focused on the vast ocean. The sea was always his peaceful place after the war, he was just happy he finally had someone to share it with.

His bright blues landed on her as she walked onto the sand and he felt his heart skip a beat at just looking at her. She was beautiful. Fae women always were but, Veda was leagues above everyone. She may have only been here a few short months but already she had come into her own, her skin, eyes, hell even her personality all had an ethereal glow to them. He found himself just staring at her and completely losing track of the topic at hand.

The heirs were to be the second generation of kings since the death of the monarchy. The pressure on their shoulders were immense, not to mention their nation being post war. Leo was a praised warrior, a decorated veteran, and in his life he found not a drop of peace until he had met Veda.

Just as his bare feet stepped onto the warm sand he instantly spotted the tears and froze. She was crying? While he didn't know why he felt himself moving without missing a beat. Concern etched his face as he stepped into the water besides her, his large hand gently resting on the small of her back so he could rub small soothing circles. "Hey, it's okay to cry y'know? It doesn't make you a psychopath." Leo quietly chuckled before stepping around so he could face her. Those cool to the touch calloused index finger lifted her chin so she would meet his gaze.

"I'm here for you Veda. Whether you need to talk, a shoulder to cry on, or just someone take you away from the hell of the citadel and have a minute of peace I want to be that person for you. You can cry to me good tears or sad tears and I wouldn't judge you at all for any of them. You're still gorgeous even with the tearstains." Leo had a gentle honest smile on his face as his free finger wiped off some of those tears from her pale cheeks.

Again, he moved without thinking. His blues drifted from her glossy eyes to her lips, and before he knew it his face was dipping down so his soft lips could meet hers. The hand wiping away those tears cupped her face gingerly as they shared the most tender, loving kiss of their entire lives. The hand on her chin slipped down to rest on her hip, not forcing her to kiss him by any means, he just simply wanted to hold her.

21.Gemini.All Four. Siren.

Siblings. The words shouldn’t have made Veda feel so damn bubbly but they did, knowing that Leo wasn’t in love with Alina made her heart breathe a sigh of relief that she hadn’t realized it had been harboring. Then as she tried to calm herself and stop the tears, Leo stepped into the water next to her and Veda felt embarrassment build within her. It wasn’t like her to cry in front of anyone but crying in front of Leo of all people made her feel like a child. She quickly brushed away her tears, hoping he didn't notice, but Leo's gentle voice cut through the sound of the waves and then his hand was resting against the skin of her back. The touch caused her to warm all over, a flickering light coming to life within her. “Leo that’s - thank you. That’s really sweet.” Her eyes danced over his features as a soft smile tugged at her own lips. “You are that person. You have been a light for me here, truly.”

Veda hesitated for a moment as his lips pressed to hers in the most heart melting kiss of her life, she wanted to pull back and tell him he shouldn’t do this, temind him he was getting married in less than seventy two hours to an amazing woman, to make him realize that Veda was not the type of woman he should want. But she couldn’t, she couldn’t rip herself away from him and love that she felt through his touch. Instead Veda did what she knew was probably not the most appropriate thing and allowed herself to be swept up into the moment. Leo’s hand slid down to her waist at the same time that Veda leaned into him fully, tilting her head a bit upwards to deepen the kiss and show him she felt the same. It felt absolutely insane to want him this much, they hadn’t known each other long, she didn’t feel like she knew enough about him… but it was just that. Veda wanted to know everything about him, she had heard stories from him and talked about his family but it just didn’t feel like enough. Her arms snaked around his neck and her fingers played with the ends of his hair for a moment before she finally pulled back for a breath.

There was silence besides the sounds of the waves and their own breathing yet as Veda looked at him with a sparkle in her greyish-blue eyes it felt like they had said a thousand words. They stayed like that for a few moments before Veda let her hands fall from his shoulders, her hands fidgeting awkwardly with the tie of her suit before she finally spoke. “So, uh. Should we get in? I mean that is what we came here for right?” Veda waded out into the water a few feet until the comforting waves were splashing against her hips, “Come on Mosquito boy!” For now she chose to enjoy their time, to ignore how fucked up kissing Leo was and to not think about what happened when they got back to the citadel. Right now she would allow herself the first opportunity she had at being really happy here.

***

“What in the hell is that?!” Veda screamed over the sound of the horns that blazed in the air, it was so loud that the woman even had her hands pressed to her ears as she looked over to Leo and Alina where they sat across the room from her. However the two were already reacting to the noise and Veda could feel the terror rolling off of them both. “Guys?”

Veda stood, both Alina and Leo were already busing themself with whatever the hell this was about so they didn’t seem to receptive to her questions, so instead she moved to the window to look down at the courtyards below. People were changing into their order forms left and right and teams of warriors were running towards the front gate. Even just standing in the window she could feel all the adrenaline and fear moving across the grounds and it made bile rise up in her throat. Something bad was going on, something that was making everyone go on edge. Veda turned around, moving to the door to find where she had kicked off her shoes and pull them on; she needed to find Vesta. Below her skin she could feel her siren rising to meet her, wanting to be fully released but she couldn’t focus on everyone’s emotions right now, she couldn’t handle that and her own concern about where her sister was amidst all the chaos. “I’m going down to Vee’s room to find her. Then where should we meet you all?” Veda was sure that both Leo and Alina would tell her no, to hold up in the tower and leave whatever this was to the people trained to fight but there was no way in hell that was happening.

23.Scorpio.Werewolf.Water

Mari just stared at Cy for a long time before her lips spread into a sad smile, “I’m looking forward to a lifetime of anguish with you too Cypres.” As Alina approached the two of them Mari shook free of Cy’s hands and turned her attention to the blonde woman. It was probably the last thing that Mari wanted to do right now, to take Rune anywhere and be near him more than she already had been. Being near him now was fucking anguish, they were star crossed, they failed their divine moment given to them by the stars and were going to be punished for it for eternity. Now there wasn’t a minute that passed where her soul didn’t hurt, where she didn’t long for him and feel a pain where her heart should be. Being in close proximity to Rune only heightened all of it… but there was no way she was going to say no. “Yeah, I’ll handle it. Don’t worry.”

With that Mari made her way to help Rune walk back to his room in silence. It was as if the two of them couldn’t figure out what words to say and if they had she wasn’t even sure that her voice would even form them. Once Mari got Rune home she forced him into bed and brought him water and tea as well as some snacks and his TV remote along with firm instructions to stay in fucking bed and rest after the bullshit fight the two men had just gotten into. Then she left to hurry to her own place where she spent the rest of her evening in her own bed, broken.

***

“Dammit I said blow the fucking horns!” Mari roared at the sentries standing guard at the front gate, her teeth sharpening as she snapped them up at the men standing along the spires to get them to realize she meant business. Thankfully they didn’t put up much more of a fight and soon the terrible noise of warning sounded throughout the citadel. Mari and a few of the other wolves in her pack that resided at the citadel had gone out for a late night run around the grounds to recharge and let some tension settle. However on the last leg of their journey they had been attacked by a wraith out of nowhere and if they hadn’t already been in their order forms Mari wasn’t sure if they all would have made it out alive. One of their pack members was wounded fairly badly put thankfully the damage was all to her leg and hip and not anything that would kill her, presumably. Still, any sort of pain felt within their pack was felt deeply throughout them all and Mari was already on edge enough with everything between Rune and Cy.

“The councillors and visiting family are all staying within the main building, in the part of the royal palace that still remains. Please run to them and let the councilmen know what is happening, I believe all four of the leaders have arrived by now for the wedding festivities. We’ll need their help. There’s more than one out there.” Mari sent off another of her pack with a pat on the shoulder and watched for a moment as he went running towards the large stone building, dodging between fae as he went to warn the heads of all four elements about the danger that approached.

Soon Rune had appeared, causing a knot to twist in Mari’s throat that she fought to swallow down due to the severity of the situation at hand. She didn’t have time to deal with this star crossed bullshit right now. “I had eyes on at least four, but it felt like more were hiding in the trees.” A chill ran down her spine as she explained the events of the attack in the forest to Rune, catching him up to speed as the chaos of the attack began to flow around them. “There’s so much power here right now, all of the visiting royals for the wedding and the girls? No wonder they’re congregating for an attack. We probably look like a fucking feast to them.”

Rune began barking out orders to the warriors around him and began turning the chaos to order in a way that reminded Mari why she found him so fucking amazing. He was so clear headed and smart, strong and concise, honestly she was fairly certain that his battle prowess would never cease to amaze her. At least until he suggested he went back to Aqua tower to help Veda and Alina. “I’m going to Ignis, Veda and Alina haven’t even stepped foot in Aqua’s halls in days. Both girls are at Ignis.”

The realization hit her like a train. Both twins were in the same place during this, their power signature was clearly already something the wraithes were drawn too… “That’s where they’ll focus the attack then.” Mari didn’t wait for confirmation, she simply began running in the direction of the tower at the back corner of the citadel grounds to get a handle on the situation. Most of their stringent men and women had gone to protect and fight alongside the visiting royals out of assumption they were a target but… something told Mari that wasn’t the case.

What happened? What was going on? Why was Vesta so upset? Matteo felt like absolute trash for kissing her this way, clearly he had crossed a boundary and made her uncomfortable. How else could he explain the look in her face of the tone of her voice? Vesta sounded broken and sad, it was absolutely crushing him that he had done this to her. The kiss had felt so good, it had been more than just his powers for him it was about how much he treasured her and loved her. Never once in his life had a single kiss made Matteo feel so charged and light but this one with Vesta had put him on a whole other level of high until he saw her face after it all. “Y-yeah of course.”

“Hey, Vee listen I’m sorry if I did something to upset you. I feel so bad that you got tangled up in my order nonsense because I was careless. I know something like this isn’t a big deal between fae but I also know that you’re new to all this. I’m sorry it went there but I appreciate you caring Vee, really.” Matteo lifted a hand as if he was going to reach for hers but let it fall a moment later with a sigh. He shouldn’t push her anymore than he already had, hell she honestly already being nicer to him than she should be considering… “I think I’m going to head back to my room for the day, give Rune a ring to see what in the hell is going on. But hey no training today! Yay!” He chuckled nervously, giving her a quick goodbye before hustling out of her room to go hide his shame anywhere but here.

-

“Whatever.” Matteo grumbled as he threw down his hand of cards, losing once again and leaning back in his chair as Vee and her new little friend continued on with the game. The three of them were sitting in the Ignis tower common area and playing cards, avoiding all the wedding chaos the best they could as the day neared closer. Thankfully with Rune taking a well needed time out after his fight with Cy, there was little for Matteo to handle currently. However the flip side to that meant he had plenty of time to hang out with Vesta and this idiot dragon loser she had started to hang out with. The man was an air user that Matteo vaguely knew through others but that was about it, he didn’t know shit about his lineage or even remember his damn name half the time. Although that was due to Matteo trying to pretend like the guy didn’t exist.

Outside the sound of horns went off and Matteo quickly pulled out his Atlas and opened his messages followed by his calendar. He was more than positive that there was no drills planned for today with the men but his mind couldn’t handle the alternative. “Fuck.” He slammed down the device before shoving away from the table and running over to the nearby window, peering out before yanking it shut and sliding down wooden shutters and locking them. All around him other people began to do the same, some moving to the door and yelling for people to get in while others changed into their order forms and charged out into the courtyard. He turned to look at Vesta as his own order form began to take hold, his eyes changing color and his wings ripping through the material of his shirt. “Call on your phoenix Vee, its wraiths.”

27.Scorpio.Basalisk.Shadows&Earth

Over the course of the week Rune had warned the Kings of the chance of an attack. There was no way that it was just one stray wraith-- everything the shadow people did was completely and thoroughly well thought out. They wouldn't hear it though, and that was how they got to this point with the spires blaring throughout the citadel. The shadows had whispered to him before they even went off, so by the time they were blown it was a matter of seconds before he had appeared. Instantly his eyes landed on the blood on Mari, but from what he could see it wasn't her blood. All questions for later. Instead he began to deal out order left and right calmly and precisely. Everyone obeyed him as Rune was by far the most experience in battle. He had been on the battlefield since he was 12, since his parents were executed.

So why didn't Marigold listen to him?

As he went to order the new troops joining them to take their position he paused at the realization of what Mari did. "Marigold?" Rune whipped around to shoot her a glare, only he found that she was already gone. No. No. NO! Of course the wraiths would be going after the girls, he had given that a great deal of thought but the girls had Leo, they had his right hand man Matteo. They'd be safe, guarded. But in that expectation he knew there was a chance they'd go after easier targets like Aqua, where they didn't have any heirs or Alina to protect them. Plus--- he gave her a FUCKING ORDER. Mate or not, disobeying was dangerous to both her and their people. Not to mention HER.

"You have your orders-- take your places!" Rune barked fiercely at the rest of the troops before running straight after Marigold. She may have been faster as a wolf, but his legs was faster and he used the earth underneath him to move him faster. However, just as he caught up to her and grabbed her hand a bit roughly to stop her, screams could be heard off to the left of them... towards the Aqua tower. His blood ran cold and he spun to see the giant ball of seething black shadows flying straight to them. He had seen this tactic in some of the most heated of battles and they killed countless of their men.

Instead of of a squad of men though this shadow cannon shadow was crashing into the top of Aqua's spire. The towers were built to withstand a lot, but the force impact shook the earth, the building beginning to break apart as the shadows crumbled the dark glowing stone. "Marigold," He spoke her name calmly, too calmly. The grip on her her hand released and he rolled his shoulders. The tower was coming down if it took a few more hits and the cannons never just stopped at one. "I'm going to evacuate Aqua. Stay outside and make sure they get as far away as possible." The chilling tone in his voice told her that it wasn't up for debate. Without waiting for her he was running past a few screaming fae. Out of the corner of his eye he could already see another shadow cannon whipping through the air, it's target none other than Aqua still.

22. Aquarius. Storm Dragon. Water & Air

"No way Leo. I'm coming with whether you like it or not." Alina spoke through gritted sharpened dragon teeth as she glared up at the man. Why were people always trying to control her? Her father never let her fight in the war despite how much she trained, Cy always bossed her around to protect her, and now Leo. She was sick of it! She could strike both of the boys down with a single strike of lightning. She understood not fighting in the war but this was her home turf! However their whispered argument as they tossed on their shoes was thankfully interrupted by Veda. Thankfully she was going to find Vesta who was bound to be with Matteo and Aiden (a weird addition to their little group), she'd be safe.

Only, Alina didn't get that same courtesy. Leo was busy running after Veda and it was clear he didn't have time to argue. Instead he slammed the door shut and he locked the fucking door. "You impossibly stupid, bull-headed vampire!" Alina kicked at the door only to whimper quietly at how hard she had hit her toe. Immediately she looked around and her eyes finally settled on the window. Fuck it.

Thankfully she was just small enough to fit through the window. As she climbed through however her bright orbs spotted that black speck flying from the forest and through the sky. The speck grew larger, and larger, and by the time she could make it out to be a ball of shadows it was far too late. The cannon collided with Aqua and her heart instantly broke. No-- no. This late at night the tower was at full capacity. If it came down... she wouldn't let it. Another black speck started to fly through the air and Alina panicked. She leaped from the window and instantly shifted into a small, six foot, juvenile runt-sized sized dragon. Her pearlescent scales were illuminated from the moonlight, the only dragon of her kind and color on this side of the world.

Alina had never fought shadows before, she didn't know how to defeat them or even if she could. All of the flying orders, dragons included, avoided the black mass and tried to attack it with distant attacks. None of it seemed to effect the trajectory or speed and if she waited too long it would hit Aqua again. Without thinking her wings flapped and carried her quickly towards the mass. Alina positioned herself in front of the shadows to separate it from Aqua, and as she thought it over she thought of a few different options. Let the mass hit the tower again,, send it somewhere else to hit and injure others, or break it.

The storm dragon opened her jaw and a blinding white beam of lighting shot out and collided with the mass. By the time the light consumed the ball it was a mere foot from her, and before she could even get away from the shadows they had burst, clinging to the small dragon and rapidly draining her of her magic. Alina was paralyzed; not from fear, but from the shadows physically sapping away every bit of her energy. Unable to summon the energy to remain a dragon she shifted to that small five foot blonde woman and plummeted towards the earth. For the first time neither air nor water listened to her. There was nothing to save her.

"Royal flush. Pay up Aiden." Vesta threw down her hands of cards with a proud grin on her face. Jack of all trades; thief, swindler, plant enthusiast. Normally she would've just kicked Matteo's ass in cards but, things had been so awkward with him lately. The kiss played in her head on repeat, and how happy it made her was always quickly shut down with what he said and how he avoided touching her. This was normal to fae, she had read far too much into whatever she thought they were. The laughs and smiles, the constant late nights and training, the way he flirted and looked at her... it was all in her head. That very next day this air fire dragon showed up and was super nice to her. He also never seemed to leave her side at this point, but it was a good distraction from the topic weighing on her heart.

The horns peaked her interest for the first time since their kiss, though this time not in a good way. Every one began to move to shut shutters on the windows and she froze. What was happening? What was she supposed to do? They hadn't covered this in any of their lessons. Thankfully Matteo was guiding her like always, not very much liking the fact that it was wraiths but glad he was keeping her in the loop. The copper haired woman met his gaze for the first time since their kiss, seeing the familiar color change and feeling her heart skip a beat. Not now Vesta. "R-Right."

Quickly she scrambled to her feet and booked it out of the common area and past a few other fae. That wraith had nearly killed her, she didn't know about fighting multiple of them. One could take out an heir, what could a few of them do? Fortunately they weren't in the woods and she finally could help. Unfortunately she wasn't quite versed in holding her phoenix form yet... surely that wouldn't be a problem.

"*Careful up there Vee. We can’t lose our only Phoenix.*" Aiden planted a kiss on Vesta’s cheek before running further into the courtyard, the large 12 foot dragon shooting off towards the sky to join the other dragons at work. "Y-Yeah, sure." Her eyes burned bright and the burning phoenix shot towards the sky. The woman was a bright, glowing orange target in the middle of the dark star filled sky. Just as she made it high in the sky Alina, or who she thought was Alina, was blowing up a giant shadow mass. It burst and she started to fall. Vesta... she couldn't help, not without hurting her, but that wouldn't stop her from trying to help the girl.

Or, she wanted to help. Just as she moved to fly towards Alina something zipped past her and nearly missed her beak. She froze and continued to flap her wings to look to see what that was. Not even seconds later hundreds of arrows were shot towards the sky. Shadows coated the tips of the arrows and it took everything in Vesta to zip around the sky in order to miss the arrows. Were they targeting all the flying fae or just her? One met their mark and grazed her wing and caused her the phoenix to cry out loudly from the pain. Despite her weakening state she flew through the pain and headed straight towards the tree line, past the line Rune ordered them not to cross. The mass, the arrows, they were all coming from the woods. Fighting them head on was a suicide mission, so what did she do?

Once she was over wooded area, the most dangerous of all the areas, she made sure none of the troops had entered yet before opening that golden beak of hers. A steam of red, yellow, and blue flames flew from her mouth began to spread over the forest. That didn't stop another volley of arrows and masses to shoot from deeper in the woods.

21.Gemini.All Four. Siren.

Veda had gone to Vestas room only to find it empty, a few others letting her know that Vesta was with some others down in the common area last time she was seen. That was all Veda had to head before she was off once more heading down the stairs however before she got all the way down someone stopped her at the entrance to one of the floors. “H-hey! Get your fucking hands off me!” Veda kicked and screamed as strong arms grasped on her shoulders and yanked her backwards from behind. Fear spiked in her the moment they made contact, it clearly wasn’t a wraith but something about this person felt so cold and devoid of emotion much like the wraiths did when they were present. Just as she prepared to try and attack the hands let go after spinning her around to fact whomever had grabbed her. “Oh fuck Kato! You scared the shit out of me.” A small breath of relief left her lips but the tension returned to her chest when she finally looked up at him, he looked mostly the same but right now there was a darkness in her eyes that made her want to run off now. “Sorry babe, you just looked freaked, I figured you were looking for your sister and I saw her and her little pet run this way.” The feeling of tension suddenly died out at those words, the desire to find Vesta winning out over any warning bell that was ringing in her ears. Without any further hesitation, Veda pushed Kato in the direction he gestured too and followed after him quickly. It only took about a minute for Veda to realize she had messed up, within a few quick strides and corners she and Kato were alone completely, away from all the others who were gathering to fight. “Kato are you sure they went this way?” Veda stammered and went to turn around and look at him but before she could a gust of wind was knocking her further down the hall and through a closed door that led into a storage room of sorts.

Veda scrambled to stand but Kato’s vampire speed was nothing to scoff at and soon he was on top of her, shoving her back to the ground by her shoulders and glowering down at her with those same shadows behind his eyes she had sworn she saw earlier. “What are you doing!?” She pushed against his strength but there was no way she could budge, her powers also felt weak, like they were fading behind a cloud of thick fog in her brain. That’s when a realization clicked, this was indeed what it had felt like while fighting the wraith because wraiths were made of shadows, they had been absorbed by their power… the same type of power that danced in Katos eyes.

“I was really only supposed to make sure I handled you, but with the wraith attack I might be able to get both sisters in one night.” A wicked smile ticked at the corners of Katos lips as he stared down at the woman. “You and your sister are so fucking naive to this world, it was so easy to get you to trust me little Veda. First step of the plan was to get rid of you and then when your sister was so distraught by your death we could get her second.” He laughed a bit as he adjusted to pin her down with a knee and one hand as he reached to slide the curved dagger from his side, twirling it around as he pulled it slowly over the exposed flesh of her arm before stabbing the tip into and through her shoulder until he felt it pierce the floor as well. “Though simply killing you would be too boring and my bosses would be thrilled if I could manage getting one of our little shadow friends out there to absorb all you have to offer.”

Fear had pinned her to the floor as much as the knife had, the searing hot pain in Vedas shoulder enough to cause hot tears to flow down the sides of her face as she tried and tried to calm herself down. Why had she been so stupid to trust him even the slightest bit? Veda should have known the moment she spoke to him but her need to find Vesta outweighed all sense of reason. “P-please don’t do this! Why don’t you people understand that Vesta and I aren’t after those stupid fucking thrones! We were brought here!!” Though that didn’t really make sense did it, Kato said boss not heir and his little villain speech had nothing to do with ruling.. it was all based on the shadows. As she looked up at him from where she laid against the ground Veda felt a sense of hopelessness wash over her, she couldn’t grasp any of her elements enough to do anything to get out of this and her siren powers felt useless in a fight! Instead of continuing to stare at Kato, Veda let her eyes fall shut to visualize anything else… he couldn’t be the last thing she saw. Her mind wandered the Vesta and instantly she felt so fucking stupid for whatever this fight was they had been in the last few weeks, it was so small now in the grand scheme of things and Veda hated that she would have ended on that note with her sister. “What girl, already dying over there? Taking a nap?” Kato started laughing and Veda squeezed her eyes shut harder, refusing to be pulled back into the nightmare happening to her. Instead her imagination wandered once more only this time her mind landed on Leo, on their first actual interaction with each other in the gazebo to their fight against the wraith in the forest and finally landing on their day at the sea. Maybe death could be like that forever, peaceful and beautiful… and hopefully Leo would be there with her someday and long long time from this moment.

Marigold Lycath

23.Scorpio.Werewolf.Water

“We are not - fine.” Mari nearly began an argument with Rune, nearly told him she wasn’t her commander, they weren’t in a war and he was not her alpha. However, despite her heightened level of aggression and awareness, this was not the time to argue. She had run for Ignis because the girls had been made their top priority and despite her better judgement she had grown to like the orange one. It also didn’t help that she was still running on the adrenaline of the battle, their pack member who had been killed was a fire user and Mari couldn’t help but want to protect them … since she couldn’t protect her. Mari glanced back at the other tower for a moment, Rune was right, it seemed they were already evacuating and sending their strongest to fight, the rest remaining to barricade their home. “I know- I’m sorry.” She turned to say more just at the same moment the first strange shadow mass hit the tower and caused a huge cloud of debris to splash down over the ground. A bit of her heart instantly broke, everything special about Aqua tower was held it it’s basement and below ground levels but still, seeing her home away from home take on so much damage was painful in a strange way.

Rune was moving first, Mari taking one more look at Ignis to notice that Vesta was out and launching off as her phoenix form. Good. That would be good. Then Mari took off towards Aqua, her speed helping her catch up with Rune as he began barking orders. “You can’t go in there!” She choked, staring at him with wide eyes for a moment as she quickly directed a few fae in the direction of the other three towers to help evacuate and protect each other. “You’re more useful out here. We need a leader.” Apparently today was her day of not listening, there was no way in hell that she was letting Rune run into the nearly crumbling tower before them. For starters she had truly meant it, they needed him on the ground keeping things organized, secondly her heart couldn’t fucking take it. It was already stressful enough to have to deal with him being in these situations but to add more danger would likely give her a fucking heart attack. So instead, Mari bounded towards the tower just as Alina handled the second mass which thankfully bought Mari some time. It seemed as if a lot of the inhabitants of the tower had already found their way into the fight but there was still a slow trickle of people leaving the tower in their pajamas with shock plastered over their sleep stained faces.

Alina had been taken out of commission by stopping the second blast which had naively made Mari believe that things were okay for a moment. However the funny thing about buildings is that once their foundation is shaken, anything can happen to crumble the whole thing. Bricks and stone began to rain down around her as the tower swayed in the night winds, a few nearly missing Mari by an inch as she darted around and got people to get into motion and get away from the tower as soon as possible. She was about to head inside when a secondary boom finally hit the already swaying tower and caused its collapse to quicken exponentially. There were no other fae making their way down the steps anymore but Mari still leaned into the halfway ruined front entrance to send a long howl through the room to try one last attempt at waking up anyone who may still somehow be sleeping through all of this.

Then the first stone hit her. Mari was knocked straight in the temple with the large rock and dropped to her knees instantly from the force and pain that came with the rock. Then another hit her back as she crouched on the ground, then another larger section of the upper floors broke loose and slammed into the stonework besides her and made her let out a surprised shriek.

Matteo Sellis

26.Sagittarius.Incubus.Fire

Matteo watched with a grimace as Aiden planted a kiss on Vestas cheek before launching off into the sky, the annoyance and frustration it made him feel only powering his order form more as his wings fully unfurled from his back just as Vesta followed suit into the air. All around them fights were breaking out, it seemed as if there were only about twenty or so fully formed wraiths but considering just one could take out a dozen fae this was nothing to scoff at. They had even been organized enough this time to attack with battle tactics they had only seen in the war, the shadow cannons were enough to make Matteo shudder for a moment before getting his mind straight and focused. Many of the flying orders had taken to the sky, Vesta included as she veered through the air to head in the direction of the dragon that he recognized as Alina, only the moment she began to turn that direction a influx of arrows were zooming towards her and causing Matteo to tear off into the sky after her. Another onslaught came towards them all and his stomach turned as he heard the scream of pain that Vesta let out, that sort of pain would only mean one thing. Whoever was shooting at them was using ash arrows.

Vesta turned abruptly and soared in the direction that the arrows were coming from and Matteo tried to yell after her to get her to stop, to keep her inside the partial safety of the citadel walls but his voice was lost amongst the chaos and wind. So instead Matteo raced after her, dodging arrows and rogue shadows as they passed through the sky. Ahead of him Vesta was shooting fire down towards the trees, an act that caused him to slow back for a moment and watch in awe as her power swallowed dozens of trees at a time. However that also distracted him from the new set of arrows flying towards them all and before Matteo could fully dodge more than ten arrows shredded through each of his wings and caused him to lose altitude, plummeting towards the field below them until he reached the ground with a large thud. The pain was so horrible that it blinded him for a moment, pushing the breath from his lungs as he instantly began to try and roll over to stand up.

Cypres was still licking his wounds from his run in with Rune a few days back when the fight broke out. He had been still laying in bed when the alarms rang through the air causing him to launch from the mattress with a speed that may have rivaled a vampire. Without worrying to get changed Cypres was gone, running down the stairs from his loft with his heart pounding heavily in his chest. There was no way they would plan a drill of any kind while all these people were visiting for the wedding, this had to be the real deal…outside things were quickly moving into full swing, fae transforming all around him and the sounds of battle loudening through the air. Cypres felt his own order form shifting beneath his skin, the lion readying itself for a fight as the sheer force of the wraiths power sapped his magic from him. His eyes turned to dangerous amber slits, his talons grew long and his muscles rippled as his body grew larger and his wild brown curls turned into long locks of a half transformed mane. It was rare that Cy would fully transform to fight , keeping his ability to communicate was often detrimental to the battles he was involved in.

As Cy rushed towards the front gate nearest Aqua tower his mind focused on Alina and where she was, his eyes absent mindedly searching the sky full of flying fae to find her dragon form. It didn’t seem she was around yet, or she was helping elsewhere… his attention was then pulled To a bloodied Mari who was arguing with Rune and his mouth went dry, what the fuck had happened this morning when she had gone out for a run? Cy was about to head over and talk to the two just as a deafening crash caused him to slow and stare up at the freshly hit tower as it swayed a bit from the impact. Another ball of shadows was swiftly incoming and that was when Cy finally saw Alina as she soared towards the incoming attack and handled it with finesse. However it seemed it took too much out of her and before his very eyes she was dragged back into her far form and plummeting towards the ground at a speed that made Cypres let out a terrified gasp. At the same time that he began to race towards Alina, Mari darted into the crumbling tower as it began to fall and Cy realized he was faced with a choice… one that should have felt impossible only it truly didn’t. He wasn’t sure what that made him, if it made him a monster or a terrible friend… but he simply knew that there was no way in hell he was doing anything but running towards Alina.

As Cy raced over the grounds he darted through people running in every direction, his mind doing cartwheels to try and figure out how to make her slow down without full use of his powers. If he just caught her falling at that speed, she would break her fucking spine. Before long Cy found himself standing below her, only a few dozen remaining feet before she would be at ground level. Cy put all of his focus and might into trying to call upon his air, it felt like he was having to tear through his very soul as he lifted his hands in an attempt to make any sort of a cushion to catch her but he could barely grasp anything more than a light breeze. “Fuck!” Cy let out a guttural yell as he strained, sweat forming on his brow as he finally released one large gust of air that caused her to lift for a moment, slowing her descent until it started once more. Thankfully this time she only had about twenty feet to gain speed before Alina dropped into Cys waiting arms. “Alina? Alina! Hey are you okay? We need to get you somewhere safe, somewhere you can recharge without having to worry.” His arms held her tight, his eyes searching over every inch of her in worry as he prayed to the stars that she was going to be okay.

Rune was a decorated General of their army, the highest ranking position one could obtain, and while he may not have been her direct commander his order should've been listened to no matter what. Alpha or not, mate or not, all that came second to the battlefield. Rune's goal was to keep her alive! He was fully aware she had just been traumatized by losing one of her pack, he couldn't blame her for acting rash. But that was besides the point-- she needed to listen to him if they were to limit the number of causalities. The biggest one he wanted to avoid being hers.

So why was she still not listening to him?

"MARIGOLD!" Before he could even step foot in the tower she was going on about how he couldn't go in there, it was enough to distract him for a fraction of a second. And in that second she booked it towards the crumbling tower. His feet stomped after her as he tried to stop her but she was smaller and more agile than him, that and the flow of panicked students made it impossible to slip in like she had done. "Either join the fight or retreat to either Ignis or Terra!" The looming dark haired man growled the words through gritted teeth, doing everything he knew to stay calm and rational but it was almost impossible. His mind was reeling, he felt like the world was closing in on him and it was getting hard to breathe.

And then the tower swayed and he felt his blood run cold. That bond he had with Mari felt pain and he knew she was in danger. She was beyond his line of sight and he didn't know what to do; if he went in he risked both of their lives and there was no way he was letting her die, not a chance. The rational General in him was thrown out the window and before he could even process what was happening Rune was shifting. His body turned a green bronze color and coated with scales, his arms and legs disappeared and for the first time Rune had shifted into a basilisk in public. Not only that, but he made himself as large as possible and the top half of his body loomed 100 feet in the air. The rest of his massive body launched him towards the tower, and as it swayed more and threatened to topple over he caught it with his head. Unfortunately he wasn't as big as the 800 foot brick tower and it's weight was nearly impossible for him to hold.

Yet with a strained hiss he did hold it. One emerald slitted snake eyes was closed in pain, the other remained partially open so he could stare at the entrance. His body trembled and he felt the pressure on his spine nearly break him but he didn't move. Not until he seen Marigold run out of the tower. That was when he felt something in his spine snap and his body dropped to the ground, the crumbling tower in turn falling on top of him. In the dust and rubble his giant tail faded and he shifted back to his fae form, and in that moment everything went black. Even that bond he shared with Marigold faltered, fading like it was disappearing.

Like Incubus, Basilisks weren't normally allowed to enter the citadel. They were known to be a treacherous, lying order. He never wanted anyone to know what he was, never wanted Mari to know, but he threw that secret away to save her. Maybe knowing what he was would ease the pain she'd feel over losing him.

Only, instead of going into that light in the darkness he felt that bond still tying him to the earth. He could easily accept death, go to his family in the afterlife. But he wouldn't have Mari there; he wouldn't be able to look after her like she deserved. That alone forced his eyes open to feel the weight of bricks on his chest and the pain of his tattered body. "Fuck..." It wasn't a miracle that allowed him to live, it was Mari. Not only his life revolved around her, but his death did too. His hands weakly pushed some of the bricks off of him until he was staring up at dust and stars.

Was locking Alina in the room a dick move? Probably. But he swore to her dying father, his General and the man he idolized, that he'd protect her. Hell, he'd of locked Veda in the room too for his own peace of mind if she hadn't run out first! "Veda!" He chased after her but in the time he had taken the time to lock the door she had gotten out of his sight. Where would she go? Obviously go check on her sister. Where would Veda and her boys be though? The first thought, common room. Mainly because he didn't know where Vesta's room was, secondly that was where he saw the brat the most.

She wasn't there and neither was Veda. "Fuck." His hands ran through his shoulder length blonde locks in frustration. He was torn; he knew they needed him on the battlefield, but he needed to ensure that Veda was safe first. why? He had no fucking clue. They were around each other every single moment they could and she was literally all he could think about. What with their moment on the beach he felt closer to her than anyone ever before, he truly thought the mating bond would click by now. It was all he dreamed about since he was a kid, but it hadn't snapped. His mother and fathers were instant and while he knew it was uncommon, that was what he dreamed of. Now all he could dream about was Veda and getting to know her more, seeing her grow and flourish in this world and in her order.

He didn't need a mate, he just needed Veda. He needed her safe.

He calmed that racing heart of his and closed his eyes. He took a deep inhale and smelled every single scent in the tower. He focused on Veda; those piercing pale blue grey eyes of hers, her silky blue black hair, that voice of hers he could listen to all day. Like a needle in a haystack he found her and his feet carried him as fast as his vampiric speed could carry him.

They carried him straight to a storage room? He was full on in his order and his ocean blue eyes were crimson red. Beyond the door he could smell Kato, he could smell the fear, the smell of magic. The familiar smell of Veda's blood... Panic filled his chest and he burst through the door. His eyes landed on Veda on the ground with her eyes shut, Kato on top of her stabbing her, and by the time Kato had looked back at him Leo had grabbed him and threw him across the room into a rack full of boxes.

Leo didn't know what was happening or why. There was no hesitation as he jumped on top of Kato with his fangs bared, his red eyes bloodthirsty, deadly, and void of any bit of Leo that Veda knew. Those strong hands of his wrapped around Kato's throat and immediately began to strangle the life out of the man. Kato fought, he tried to peel his hands off of his neck but there was no stopping him. Well, not until Kato slipped his hand down by his side. Leo didn't care about anything other than watching the life fade from his eyes-- he didn't flinch until he felt something sharp stab into his stomach.

Normally a stab wouldn't hurt, but this one stung. It fucking hurt. It caused those red orbs to fade back to blue and he felt himself choke up blood, a pool of iron tasting liquid filling his mouth and dripping down onto Kato's cheek. His hands released him and he went to pull out the knife and that was the moment Kato flipped them over, Leo powerless to do anything about it.

"You're as dumb as you look you fucking idiot. That's ash wood. You're nothing more than a pathetic human right now. Don't worry, it won't be for long. Just long enough for you to hear Veda scream for you to help her while I kill her." More blood sputtered from Leo's mouth and his trembling hand grabbed hold of the knife in his stomach. With a pained groan he yanked it out of his stomach as Kato moved to stand off of him and stabbed him in the thigh, knocking the man back on top of him. "Veda, run...!" Leo choked out the words as he struggled to keep Kato down. However Leo was bleeding out and Kato had the upper hand on him, so much so that he was now moving to take the dagger out of his thigh and toss it away and towards Veda. Once it was out of reach Kato wrapped his hands around Leo's throat to kill him first instead.

Pain radiated through her entire wing as she rained fire down onto the forest. Normally when she was hurt as of late it healed up fairly quickly considering she charged every night, but the pain was getting worse by the minute and had her flames faltering. She kept going though despite the flames around her flickering for a moment. If she could even stop one wraith it'd all be worth it. Veda was in the citadel, Matteo, even Marigold. Even all the faes that looked down on her and her sister, that prick Leo, she wanted to keep everyone alive.

A volley of arrows shot from the woods that she weaved through, the flames still pouring out of her golden beak as she flapped her wings and pushed past the pain. However something made her falter. Panic rose in her chest as she felt something was off, something that made her turn to see Matteo falling out of the sky. Bile rose to the back of her throat and the fire engulfed bird shot towards him, her wings carrying her as fast as she could. The pain in her wing hindered her speed and by the time she made it to him he was already on the ground.

"Matteo!" The copper haired woman shifted just as she landed, her feet smacking against the field as she ran to him. Blood coated the entire sleeve of her left arm and she could hardly move it but the pain was the last thing on her. The small woman dropped to the ground and her body tingled with fear and panic. Tear stained green and gold eyes looked him over and lingered on his torn wings, her trembling hands moving to keep him still. "Are you okay? Of course you're not, look at you. Goddammit!"

It wasn't often she lost her cool but something about seeing him wounded completely shook her to her core. His wings were fucking shredded, not even her phoenix tears would be enough to help him at this point. "Oh you're so-- so stupid! Why did you follow me? What if-- what if they killed you?!" Vesta's voice cracked as she tried not to choke on her tears. "It's one thing if I get hurt, its another if you do." Vesta needed him, point blank. Despite the scolding she wrapped his arm around her neck to support him, letting him use her to lean on as she pushed them to their feet. "Let's get you back. Here just, take it easy. Okay?"

Her arms wrapped around his waist to hug him and make sure he was steady, and while she would've normally been thrilled to hug him she was completely livid with him right now. "If we see Aiden I'll flag him down and have him fly you to the healer. I'll head back to burning the wraiths." Vesta couldn’t even look at him as she slowly made her way towards the gates of the citadel. He already made her feelings for him feel dismissed so she didn’t want to let him know how bad seeing him like this hurt her heart, and besides, she had to keep an eye out for any wraiths. If one showed up she’d use herself as bait again to buy Matteo enough time to run.

The shadows that enveloped Alina consumed her during her descent. She wasn't sure which would kill her first, the impact or the rate the shadows consumed her mind and heart. Everything good felt hazy, and every bit of pain became infinitely stronger. The poor girl had been through so much pain as of late and the pain was unbearable, so much so that tears streamed down her cheeks and she prayed to the stars the impact killed her quickly. The small blonde dragon choked on her sob and she clenched her eyes shut to try and hide from the darkness but it didn't work. She didn't want the dark thoughts, didn't want to feel her heart break all over again at the loss of Cypres. Alina knew that everyone would be better off without her and for the first time she knew just how to complete that task.

Suddenly a large gust of wind surrounded her and all she could see in her mind was Cy. She wanted to apologize to him, say goodbye to him. But... he didn't want didn't want her. He didn't love her. They would never be friends again, so what was the point?

And why the hell was he saving her?

Normally the panic in his voice would worry her, it would break her heart and make her want to comfort him. This time... she felt nothing. Not even as he held her close, something she longed for and would give her last piece of gold for. All Alina felt was a cold void in the place her heart was. For a while she laid there limp in his arms, her long lashes closed over her eyes as he cradled her unconscious form and carried her to safety. Inside she was simply fighting for control, clawing her way to the surface only to be drowned by the darkness.

"You don't have to act like you care." After a few minutes she finally spoke up. However, while the voice was Alina's the tone was chilly and emotionless. Those kind blue eyes that Cypres had become enamored with were not the ones he was met with as her eyes cracked opened. They were swimming with the shadows that jumped on her from that cannon. But what would Cypres do? Turn her in knowing full well what they would do to any fae tainted with shadows?

The two of them approached a large crowd and Alina couldn't help but look over his half transformed body in attempts to feel something. His amber orbs, his claws, his mane, normally she'd of swooned to see him in his order form. Deep down Alina wanted to hug him, thank him for helping her, but the shadows in her asked what the point was? He didn't care for her. "I don't know why you bothered to save someone as worthless as me. You've made it clear you love Mari and don't want anything to do with me anymore. You would've done me a favor letting me fall."

A tall, green skinned woman with golden slitted-eyes approached them, her snakes for hair hissing as they looked at Cy and Alina. "Alina, what are you doing playing hero? You know a woman in your position shouldn't be risking your life like that!" Helena Diaval, a strict, cold hearted woman, the complete opposite of how Alina's father was. The woman had a black ring around her golden orbs and some say that was what made her such a bitter and angry person. Her gaze finally lifted from Alina to Cy, clearly more concerned with scolding her daughter over her well being. "Why are you here? Where's Leo?" Alina couldn't help but roll her eyes and push herself to her feet. "I'm fine mother. I'm not sure where Leo is, he was Ignis the last I saw of him. Cypres was just passing by and helping me. It's nothing."

Veda “Smith”

21.Gemini.All Four. Siren.

Veda had thought she was dead when she felt him, when she felt Leo in the room with her and felt his panic and anger filling the small room with intense emotion. It wasn’t until the moment that Kato’s weight was lifted from her that she finally opened her eyes to realize this was real and not some hopeful fantasy of rescue. Leo was really here, he was here and he was protecting her once again. She could see the determination in his eyes as he stood between her and danger, tackling Kato to the ground and wrapping his hands around the man’s throat and causing Veda to tear her eyes away from the violence. In the moment that Leo had opened for her, Veda reached over and wrenched the dagger from her shoulder with a small gasp of pain before tossing the blade across the room and away from everyone. Then a sharp pain came to her side and Veda let out a surprised scream, her hands flying to her side to find the wound that she was sure was there only to find herself untouched.

Then the scent of Leo’s blood mixed with her own.

Panic turned Veda’s face white as she struggled to get ahold of her own body and stand from the stone flooring. Kato was standing up from where he had taken Leo down to the ground, laughing with a wicked grin as he began to turn towards Veda with murderous intent in his gaze. “Leo!” She let out a choked sob as she was finally able to take a look at him, he was lying in a pool of his own blood and looked so painfully exhausted that it broke her fucking heart. This was a thousand times worse than the state he had been in during the first attack and even that had made Veda want to die. Right now she couldn’t even care about the impending threat of Kato, all her mind could focus on was trying to find a way to get Leo to a healer. However, Leo had other plans as he stabbed the dagger into Kato’s flesh and yelled for her to run, the two men falling into a battle once more.

Leo was insane if he thought she was going to run but what was she going to do? Veda was no match in strength for a vampire even when they were injured, she had no control over her magic and her order form wasn’t exactly battle savvy. It was then that the dagger clattered by her feet and Veda looked to see Kato back on top of Leo once more, his hand closing around Leo’s throat. There was no plan, no real thought… only action. Veda wasn’t even sure what she was doing before she had scooped up the dagger and latched onto Kato’s shoulders with one arm wrapped around his upper body as she tried to yank him back but even with all of her strength he didn’t even budge. In fact her attempt at removing him only seemed to anger him further and cause his hands to tighten… it was then that Veda knew she wasn’t getting out of this without blood on her hands. So that was exactly what she did, her other arm pulling up to plunge the dagger into the side of Kato’s throat, the man’s hands instantly releasing as he reached up to grasp at his own throat as blood gurgled up and out his mouth. His blood flowed over her hands and arm, even staining her shirt as she pushed his heavy body away from Leo as he fell limp.

“Leo, hey! Tell me what to do okay? What can I do? What should I do?” Veda wiped away the blood on her hands only to re-cover them with Leo’s as she used her sleeve to clean up the spilled blood on his face before pressing her hands firmly against his wound. This was all her fucking fault, he kept getting hurt because of her, because she was weak and she didn’t know how to protect herself. “Fuck! I’m so sorry.” Veda cried out, her head lowering to rest her forehead against his as she kept pressure on the wound. “Leo I’m so fucking sorry. I shouldn’t have trusted him, I shouldn’t have followed him here I just was trying to find Vesta. And now you’re hurt and-“ She rambled and tears began to spill from her eyes, her body shaking slightly as her adrenaline began to crash. “I won’t - I don’t know how to handle if I lost you. So please be okay, please tell me how to help.” She had heard Kato mention ash wood and she wished she had paid more attention when Matteo had been teaching them about it. Would biting her help like it had with the wraith wound? This seemed different somehow but she wasn’t really sure how to handle it.

Time stopped for Mari when the large shadow enveloped her entire world, one moment she was trying to shield herself from the falling debris and the next it all stopped. She looked up in fear, worried that the wraiths had overrun her, but instead her gaze was filled with a large beautiful serpent that made a gasp catch in her throat. The moment she met the creatures pained expression, she knew it was Rune. Mari had never known Runes order, she had known he kept it a carefully guarded secret much like his ability to manipulate shadows, but she never would have guessed in a million years that he was a basilisk. It honestly made so much since within a moment of thought and broke her heart at the same exact time, his power was fueled from pain. She watched in horror as pain crossed his feature, his one eye focusing in on where she stood stunned in the entrance making her swiftly return to reality. Mari darted from the building, moving so fast that her reflexes couldn’t keep up with her as she stumbled to the ground once she was out of range of the building. With a roll she was facing Rune once more from where she sat against the dirt, watching as he crumbled beneath the weight of the brick and a horrid scream erupted from her chest. The crack of his body was loud enough to hear over the roar of the battle and it struck a terrible fear into Mari’s very soul as she scrambled to stand and run to him where he had landed, his body returned to his normal fae form as he laid there lifeless and battered.

“Rune?” Mari cried, her hands shaking as they moved to cradle his face gently between her palms. His breath was shallow, and for a brief moment, Mari feared the worst. “Someone get a fucking healer!” She wailed, not taking her eyes off him once and not even sure anyone was listening to her plea. All fae could use some healing magic but Mari wasn’t particularly adept and currently she was cursing her entire existence for it. “Rune? Come on. Stay with me. Please.” Her voice was barely above a whisper as she begged with him, his eyes remaining closed and his breaths barely moving… their bond was even fading from her grasp. “Dammit Rune! You don’t get to leave me alone like this! You don’t get to leave me miserable and lonely, you have to stay because even though we’re not together, I cannot live in a world that you do not exist.” Her hands continued she caress his face as she cried down at him, her chest heaving in heavy sobs and breaths as she fought to keep the rising panic at bay. Time seemed frozen, holding its breath along with her.

The world around them fell further into chaos, the very stars that Mari and Rune had denied cursing them for caring about each other. Around her the wind began to turn, speeding up until it was nearing the precipice of a tornado. Maris hair was flying around in wild tossed curls, debris and dirt being yanked away from where they sat at the eye of the storm. “Rune please. Please.” Her forehead finally fell against his chest, her body crumbling in despair and her hands moving to clutch his at his side. Then a moment passed and Mari felt a tug on their bond as it strengthened, Runes chest rising and falling with more purpose now, a sputtering rhythm that promised life. Mari sprang into a sitting position once more and stared down at him with wide eyes as she storm turned into a full blown cyclone in an attempt to pull them apart but there was no way in hell, not right now as Rune actually spoke and opened his eyes. “Thank you.” Mari refused to thank the stars, they cursed her and she cursed them. But she had to thank the universe for not ripping him away from her, for letting him live. “You moron! You nearly died!”

Matteo Sellis

26.Sagittarius.Incubus.Fire

Matteo could have never imagined the pain that came along with ash arrows, or any ash weapon to be fair, he had heard stories but thankfully had never been on the receiving end of a wound. Even during the war, Matteo had been utilized as a distance weapon and book keeper more than ever actually being on the front lines. This was actual fucking hell. He groaned as he tried to turn and get off the ground but the pain was far too much, he could shift back into his fae form but who knew if that would even help much, with his wings shredded it was likely that he would have intense wounds on his back no matter what form his maintained. He wasn’t sure how long he had been rolling on the ground in pain when Vesta made it over to him, knowing her he was sure it wasn’t long but the pain had made it feel like an eternity. “Don’t worry about me Vee, I’m fine!” Matteo lied through gritted teeth as he tried once more to sit up or stand and fell short once again. He knew that she couldn’t possibly believe his terrible lie but what he wasn’t expecting was to be scolded and met with her tears. “What was I supposed to do Vee, let you run off alone? No way. Never.”

Matteo attempted to give her a warm smile as Vesta helped him move into a standing position so they could get away from the blazing fire and danger not far from them. But it was then that he realized that she was bleeding too, quite badly in fact from her arm. Suddenly it was like all the pain was sapped from him as Matteo’s worry turned all of its focus on Vesta. “Did you get hit too? Why didn’t you say anything?” He growled at her as the two walked slowly back towards the citadel wall the best that they could. “No way you’re going fucking back, we’re both going to the healers and Aiden can fuck right off. We’re fine. He’s more needed elsewhere… I can take care of us.” The last bit was comical considering that Vesta was literally the one having to walk him back to the citadel due to his injuries but that didn’t change the fact that Matteo didn’t want or need Aiden’s help.

The two of them were getting close to the barrier when the wind began to churn, ripping against the holes in his wings and causing Matteo to nearly double over in pain. “What the fuck is this?” He yelled over the roar of the wind, tightening his arm that was wrapped around Vestas shoulder despite the pain it caused him or her. The storm was strong enough to nearly topple them, there was no way in hell they were making it any closer to the walls right now. “Fuck!” Matteo growled and pointed towards a large tree nearby them, it had a small shack attached in its branches that they used to use for surveillance and security but now it had fallen into a bit of disrepair. “Let’s hide of whatever this is in there, it’ll at least protect us from the wind a bit.” He grimaced once more at the pain and turned to make their short walk to cover.

The shack was far enough off the ground to need to make use of a ladder attached to the bark that both of them finally made it up after great difficulty, the inside was literally a shack complete with about a 9 foot wide square of space complete with a dusty old mattress and some equipment in the corner. Matteo fell down to the floor once they finally made it in, the wind swaying the entire tree and in turn the shack. “Well, it’s better than nothing. Vee, see if any of those things over there are healing balms.”

Cy glowered down at Alina as she spoke, his heart taking a hit at every single one of her self deprecating comments and statements. He was well aware that they weren’t close now, that he had broken her heart and that she had every reason in the world to be upset with him. But this was like she truly believed that he no longer cared about her in the slightest, like he hated her and had never felt anything for her and Cy didn’t understand one bit how she could believe that. “Alina don’t say shit like that. You know I’m not pretending.” He growled slightly as they walked, the noise causing a deep rumble in his chest. “I know what I said, and all I said is that I don’t love you in that way. It doesn’t mean I don’t love you Alina, you have to know that. You’re the -“ He caught himself, biting down hard on his lip to avoid admitting she was his favorite person, his most important person and truly the woman he was in love with. “You’re not worthless, you are so much more than you think you are. You are an amazing woman and asset to our entire universe. Don’t ever sell yourself short again.”

The two made their way into the large entrance hall to find it filled with fae, and unfortunately Alina’s snake of a mother. “Leo is doing what he does best. Being a disappointment. I believe the words you’re searching for are thank you Alina for saving a lot of people.” He growled at the woman as he slid back into his fae form, his sneer turning from feline to just straight up angry as he glared over at the woman.

Vesta “Smith”
✴︎⋆✴︎⋆✴︎
21.Gemini. All four. Phoenix.

"My wings aren't--" Mangled, but Vesta couldn't bring herself to finish her sentence. The pain in her upper arm was excruciating; it was one deep slice from the arrow that tore torn through flesh and muscle so she couldn't imagine how much he was hurting. "It's just a scratch. I don't need a healer, I need you safe." Just thinking about his wings was enough to make her go easy on him and his bullshit lies... at least for now. Still, she didn't understand why he didn't want Aiden's help. Vesta's fire would burn him if she tried to fly him back, not to mention the fact that she wasn't big enough to carry him. Aiden was a huge dragon.

A sigh of relief passed her lips as the gates of the citadel came into view, thanking the stars or whoever was listening. However their fate was anything but simply walking through and heading towards the healers house. The whipping winds had her own hug around his waist tightening and the pain was the last thing on her mind. She had no clue what to do and all she wanted was to get Matteo fixed! Thankfully he was pointing to the shack on the tree, and despite the wind making it hard to hear him she nodded and headed to take cover.

"I-- Y-Yeah. Right. Balms." It cracked her heart in two to see Matteo falling to the floor but she needed to help him before moving him. the swaying shack had her stumbling as she ran over towards the rack stocked with equipment, each item on the rattling and shaking from the wicked winds. Her trembling hands quickly grabbed a green jar before running back to him, not that it was a far run, and dropping to the ground behind him.

"I take it these are ash arrow wounds?" Quietly she cracked open the balm to find the green ointment before picking up some with her fingers. While she could've easily put some on her arm all she could think about was fixing him first. "This might sting." Vesta warned him, wincing herself as she began to apply the cream to his shredded wings. Just the sight of his beautiful wings torn up like this made tears slip down her cheeks and drip into the jar. "Next time I run into danger you're to stay back." Gently she applied more of the ointment to the bits of wing he had left as she continued her scolding from earlier. Thankfully the more cream she applied seemed to be working rather well, several of the small holes and rips closing and the larger ones even beginning to recover, albeit more slowly. "It's not up for debate. Got it? I can't see you hurt like this again Matteo."

Despite some of his wings already healing there was just so much damage it would take some time to heal. The entire shack shook from the wind as she finished applying the cream, quietly wincing to herself as she stood and moved in front of him. "Come sit on the bed until you're better." Gently she reached down to take his hands, carefully helping him to his feet once more and still refusing to look up at him. "I seriously can't lose you, okay? I know you only think of me as a friend but you're important to me."
