Forbidden Love (Dreamer)

Reven

"Izabelle Marie Wolfe!"

I got back to my feet, and this time I managed to stay there without any dizziness and not much pain, giving her a stern and disappointed look. "We're stuck here, for heaven's sake! Do you think hitting people is going to make any of it better?"

The boy had stood from his chair, kicking it back almost to toppling, and hadn't so much as touched a hand to the gradually darkening red mark on his cheek. A faint light glowed from his hands, and his fingers curled rough into a fist at his side but he didn't move from his spot. The faint bell sound was gone, gentle movements disappeared, and instead it was replaced by a feeling like the air itself was just getting heavier around us, like it was pushing down on my shoulders.

His eyes narrowed at her and if I wasn't hallucinating there was some faint hints of red in them. "You think you're the only one that's in trouble here!? My life is over - all because you found me!" I didn't like where this was going.

((Sorry, just made up a random middle name that sounded okay lol))

Izabelle-

"Oh, stay out of it Reven!" I shot back. I met the boy easily, but had to look up to glare at him, "And who's fault is it you got caught?!" I felt myself shaking with anger, and I wanted to slap him again, but my hand-print across his cheek worked for now.

"You were stupid enough to make noise around humans and get caught. Slouching and whining isn't going to help anything when you have a witch trailing after you. Sorry that I'm a good shot! Sorry that you can't keep yourself out of trouble! Sorry that you're a whiny babe who can't seem to do anything for himself!"

I hated him. Oooooooh, how I hated him.

((You know they have to get together now. It's gonna happen!))

The boy growled at her, and his fists tightened, but instead of him hitting her, the faint red around him got brighter, and air felt heavier - the window exploded outwards, shattering into millions of pieces out into the grass outside. I cringed and reached over my shoulder but my sword was gone and -

He settled back, away from her, his fingers uncurling slowly. ". . . If killing you would make anything better, I'd do it." And then, he just left, walked out and closed the door behind him.

Izabelle-

"So do it!" I screamed at the door. I looked at the window, the glass shattered outside and the people starting to gather around, awe on their faces. I turned to Reven then, "Don't even start"

Reven

I didn't shout at her again, only looked at her for a long time and finally sat back down on the bed, head in my hands. I wanted to 'start'. I wanted nothing more than that - to scold her for putting us at even more risk when we were in an unknown, dangerous place without weapons and outgunned by what appeared to be a rather violent kind of magic. It was unlike all the stories, but thinking of scolding her made me think of our father, and of how he and Mother were at war with something just as strong and immensely more evil, and how we were separated. . . But this was what we'd come here for, wasn't it? We were supposed to come here, and learn, and go and rescue them. And what would sitting around despairing help? Nothing. It would help nothing.

I got up again, walked to the door and stopped with the knob turned because we were at least allowed to leave the room, then looked at her. "Wait for me here until you've calmed down. I'm going to see what I can do." I paused, shifted uncomfortably, and gave her a pleading look, not wanting to leave her but knowing her temper wasn't going to help us. "Please, Iz. . . Just wait here for me. I'll come back."

Izabelle-

I groaned as he left the room, and fell down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. What was he doing? Going out there to make a speech? This wasn't our kingdom and-

And I'd just lost my temper. Great. Maybe Reven could fix things. But it wasn't my fault he was sitting there slouching the whole time! He got caught!

I wandered the halls until I found someone, and only asked meekly if I was allowed to move about. So long as we didn't leave the building, or was watching in the small yard out back, apparently we were allowed to go wherever we felt like it. We were being kept here, but at least they were nice about it, and that kindness could possibly be our savior later on. Only . . . Only I found the elven boy when I was wandering the halls, and he was being approached by another elf, taller than him and older, and the anger in him faded quickly into something like fear, fear of the expected sort.

"Come, Fenris. It's time." The older elf said, putting a hand on the boy's shoulder, and Fenris nodded even though he looked like he was being led straight to the gates of hell. . . I didn't like the look of this.

Izabelle-

I'm a little odd, I'll admit to that. I was sitting on the window sill, liking the breeze that came across my face. But the boy, and an older man came into the field, and I ducked into the room, peering over. He then. . . He hurt him. With a whip.

Reven

He didn't make a sound. I had followed, watched covertly from the doorway as he braced himself against the wall of a small storage building just outside the one I stood in, with nothing even to restrain him there, and even though his teeth clenched tight he made no noise. Ten lashes, and the whip stopped, the man holding it coiling it again and setting it aside. Fenris' back was red but only bleeding in one place, and it hadn't been that bad, if one could say that about a whipping, but . . . but he was shaking still. His shoulders tense and his fingers curling into the wall and flinching at the sound of footsteps like he expected more. . . And apparently he did. He knew. He knew better than I.

"I am sorry, Fenris," The man said, and he sounded like he was sincere, his expression regretful. "But you know the cost."

Fenris nodded, shakily, and looked as if he might throw up, or even cry, his expression strained. "I know," He said, his voice trembling and faint. "I know."

The man nodded, and placed a hand carefully against the middle of Fenris' back, between his shoulders. A circle of light spread out over his skin, filled in with letters and designs of a language and a culture I didn't know, and Fenris' muscles seized, his head pressing into the wall and his hands sliding against it, one up and one down, clawing at it until light circled around his wrists as well and kept him still, kept him still as the lights on his back began to darken.

That was when the screaming started.

"Stop!" I burst through the door and tried to run to him, but there were guards standing post and I was caught on either side. "Stop!" I kicked and thrashed and struggled and they were strong but I couldn't stop trying, desperately. "You're hurting him - stop! Stop! STOP!" They couldn't just . . . What was happening to him? They wouldn't . . . They wouldn't just kill him, would they? No. If he was dying, he wouldn't sound so much like his very heart was being torn from his chest.

Izabelle-

They knew where Reven had been, but they sure weren't expecting another intruder. Especially a girl. I'd slipped past quickly after Reven was caught, and cowered in front of the boy, "Stop!" I begged, to scared of the whip to raise my voice. "He's not the one you should punish!" My heart beat so loud in my ears, I couldn't hardly think, "I. . . I'm the one that got you all in this mess. You should be punishing me. Not Fenris. Please". I straightened a bit, meeting the man's eyes, and ignoring the guards that were approaching, "Deliver me what I deserve, and not any less."

Reven-

I struggled to reach them, to get away, but by the time I'd even reached out a hand towards my sister, the light had faded away, and the markings dissolved slowly into the air. Breathless and boneless, Fenris slumped into the wall and slid down it to the ground, heedless of his bare shoulder against the stone.

The man that had delivered his punishment looked at her sadly. "It is already done, child. . . We do not enjoy it any more than you."

((Gtg))

((Byeeeee))

Izabelle-

I felt tears rise in my eyes, "B-But I deserve the punishment also. For it is my doing. Please" I begged. I kept my protective stance in front of Fenris, and refused to move. Not until justice was ordered.

Reven-

They let me go, because it was over, and broke free but slowed down, just walked to Izabelle's side and watched Fenris back moe faintly as he breathed. Still breathing. That was good. "What . . . What did you do?" I asked faintly. "What did you do to him?"

The man sighed softly and shook his head. "We have rules, children. Rules for our own safety that must have consequences. From this day forward, young Ward Fenris will no longer be able to access his magic. He knew the consequence, and he submitted to them as he should. Please move aside so that I may take him inside to rest and recover."

Izabelle-

A pesky tear fell, but I still refused to move, "N-No. It's not fair!" But the man's face didn't change, and he gestured again for me to move. With a shaky breath that held back the tears, I did so. "I-I'm sorry" I said softly, "I'm so sorry, Fenris". What had I done? How was that anywhere near fair? He accidentally got caught, so they hurt him?

Reven

I stood back, putting an arm around Izabelle's shoulders to keep her from trying to get to him again, and just watched as the older man picked him up, Fenris' head lolling back over the man's arm because he still hadn't moved and his eyes were hardly open. Maybe now she would understand the gravity of the situation we found ourselves in, I thought, even as my heart ached for the somehow smaller seeming elf boy being carried away. Maybe now she would stop yelling at people and trying to get us in more trouble. We were going to have to work together for this.

Izabelle-

I'd left, and went to sleep in my own separate room. But yet again, in the middle of the night, I found myself slipping through Reven's door and curling up next to him.

"It was my fault, wasn't it?" I whispered, "I made it so he got hurt"

Reven-

I couldn't sleep either, so I was glad when Izabelle came to me, but when she spoke I frowned. "No." I sighed and ran a hand over her head, holding one of her hands. "No, it's not your fault. . . He was going to get hurt, from the moment we first saw him. They live in secret, remember? So they can't let their people just go around getting seen like that. It's not safe for them."

Izabelle-

"Well, why can't people know about the Fairytale? They're people too!" It wasn't fair. Just because humans thought they were legend, didn't mean they had to continue hiding. Educate people! Show them that they're wrong!

Reven-

I shook my head, fingers curling around hers. "Think carefully, Izabelle. Think of what we've learned of human nature. . . They have magic here. They're stronger than us. . . If they were to show themselves, people would be afraid, and when people are afraid, they start wars. No one wants that."

Izabelle-

"Well, that's idiotic" I mumbled, starting to slip off, "How do we gain their trust?" If we wanted to learn from them, we needed them to teach us. And that would take trust.

Reven

I sighed softly and gave her hand a squeeze. "Stop yelling at people," I advised, lighter than before, and shrugged my shoulders. "We do what we're told, and do our best to show that we only wish to learn, not to harm them in any way. If they're intending to keep us here, we'll have to integrate as best we can."

Izabelle-

I ran into the boy the next morning, I curtsied, not knowing what else to do, "I. . . I'm sorry"
((Headed back to work, replies short))

Fenris-

Everything hurt. It wasn't easy, purging a body of magic when it was supposed to have it. Every muscle and bone and fiber of me felt strained and pulled and twisted in uncomfortable ways, and I knew I had to look a sight. I hadn't really felt up to looking 'presentable', and my hair was a mess, my clothes wrinkled and disheveled, and I knew I had dark circles beginning to form beneath my eyes. But I hadn't let it stop me. I'd dropped myself out of bed in the morning, gone to the fields with a bow and a quiver and just prepared for the burn and stretch of firing it. I was useless now. I had to have some way of protecting myself.

She found me, before I'd even notched the first arrow, and I looked at her for too long, unsure of how to react. ". . . Don't apologize." I said finally, drawing the arrow back, and I hadn't been prepared enough for the strain of it but I pushed on anyway. I knew how to use a bow, of course, but now that . . . now that it had happened, I needed to be better. Much better. Worlds better, at everything. "Would've happened whether they caught you or not."

Izabelle-

I couldn't help it. He was doing it wrong! I stepped up behind him, and corrected his aim. "Pull back to here," I said quietly, "Back to your lips". I didn't think about how close we were, or how our bodies were almost in a dance, along with the arrow. "Now," I said, lips too close to his ear, "Kiss it, and let go"

I suddenly realized how close we were. How. . . Intimate the moment was. I backed away quickly, almost stumbling, "U-Um, yeah. Like that"

Fenris

It hurt, at first, and I spent most of my attention on not jumping away or cringing or hissing at it. I shuddered slightly, still, when I could feel her breath on my skin, and when I let go of the arrow it hit far off center but at least touched the target. The muscles in my aiming arm had twitched, aching and burning still, and it had flown off mark. ". . . Not good enough." I murmured to myself, instead of acknowledging how close she'd gotten, and notched another arrow. "Have to be better."
