Right! So, the heavy fantasy elements start after the invasion, so to speak. At the start, the world is just like ours.

If you want, we can make an "awakening" sort of event that unlocks the potential of humans, making them exceed their humanity and slowly introduce some metahuman races.

Personally, I tend to prefer just humans, or maybe humans with special markings/tattoos. No disrespect to anyone who prefers different races, of course!

i believe it's considered to be 100% modern day, with the only exception being the lack of a (formerly) worldwide pandemic

The characters will grow in power and understanding, but not in terms of abilities, so mid range. Not exactly underdogs, but not reality breaking demigods.

Holy shit it must have been in my subconscious - I read some of the manga maybe 2 or 3 years ago and I guess the idea stuck from then. Nice to see it's gotten an anime adaptation now, though I haven't watched it.

ahh man finally got mine done. couldn't think of a good weapon to save my life. turns out, thieving from video games then tweaking works out nicely

Yeah, the only power that the characters have are derived from their weapon.
