Fandom Fallout: Rockies (OOC)

Characters
Here
I've been stuck between two concepts, both of which I feel fit the setting [in different ways]:
  • A quiet mechanic raised in the Valleys who was deeply impacted by the appearance of Caesar's Legion in Boulder. She is somewhere between inspired by their sincere brutality, or vengeful towards them for what they did to her community; regardless of which, she remembers them through trauma. Whether the Legion returns makes no difference to her - she is becoming more drawn to living dangerously.
  • A Peaks heiress who has been trying to elope from her duties in order to pursue her passions - private eye work and freelancing, favoring an adventurous lifestyle over humdrum bureaucracy; much to the chagrin of the rest of her family.
I love the idea that a citizen was awakened to the reality of the wasteland by the attack. Her mind opened to the possibilities of how she herself may take what she wants.

Also, the bored heiress spending her days looking down at the town below from the bridges, wondering what adventures there are below. Sometimes sneaking into the lower levels for a closer look.

They do both indeed fit the setting perfectly.

If you're fine with it I'd love to play a Psyker :)

I still need to come up with a name but he's a character concept I shelved a long time ago because I had no outlet for him.

An armed researcher hailing from the West, near a place called 'San Fransisco'
He is an outcast of the Shi, never being around as a child due to his condition, and feared and mocked by those that should be his pupils for his cursed ability to hear the dead speak.
Having grown up as a hermit, and living a recluse lifestyle, he was a good candidate to send out east in search of lost technologies, in search of wonders that could be used to advance the Shi's standing within the ever-growing New California Republic.

Tl;dr He's a Shi Psyker that got bullied :(
Due to his focus on survival over the sciences, I'd be perfectly fine to pair up with someone that's also from the West (Including Followers. Followers are my Dawgs)

I'm thinking a former minutemen member turned lone wanderer due to a double cross by the NCR. Went from morally secure to morally grey and mostly in it for the caps a la reverse RJ MacCready
The only thing I'm concerned about is how the NCR came in contact with the minutemen. Was this Minuteman squad traveling out west for some reason, or was there an NCR ranger squad in the east?

I feel the ladder is more likely

Hmmmmmm I am hesitant to allow a psyker character into the fold. Mind you, I am aware of (and interested in) the supernatural side of fallout. It has to be JUST a pinch to make sure the science fiction isn't overshadowed. I cannot deny I was going to include one or two elements of the weird in the story, so I can't call your character out of place entirely.

Do me a favor. If I allow it, it has to be to the point that other characters are never sure if you're crazy, lying, or being for real. That is, until several chapters into the story when your abilities really do seem to work. (Ie: a ghost leads you out of a dangerous situation, or gives you information you might not otherwise have access to)

Sound good?

Sounds completely fine to me :)
I'm not too worried if the ability is ever useful or not; I see being a Psyker as a massive drawback that has benefits so niche or minimal that it just isn't worth the pain you go through for it.
God help him if he ever loses his helmet in a City xD

I feel the ladder is
Wwhichever one makes more sense for the story, I'm flexible as to what you're thinking will work best with the world building

Cool. In that case, maybe through some misunderstanding the two groups exchanged fire. It would be the NCR squad traveling east, maybe to see if there are other civilizations they could ally with. Leaving your character with an NCR shaped chip on their shoulder.

Yeah I mean Boulder is going to be crawling with ghosts after that legion attack so that's the one spot he shouldn't (and probably will) lose his mind

Hey everyone. I noticed little movement over the last week on the character front. I'm quietly bumping the thread without tagging to see if anyone is still watching it. If I don't hear anything by the end of the weekend, Im going to move on to writing a new roleplay that people may be more excited about. No hard feelings from me, or you I hope if so.

Quick update: I'll be throwing down a WIP (maybe even a full profile) this weekend. Work has gotten me swamped, so I haven't been able to sit down and crank it out. I would like to do this, but if it comes to it, I'll be onboard with whatever you decide to run.

Good to hear from you then! If you are still planning on joining in, I can run a plot with two characters. Let's see what the weekend brings, eh?

I am absolutely still interested, just had a total week from hell with work. Planning on finishing up a character sheet this weekend

Alrighty then! Seems we're back in business kiddos!

So happy to have you both aboard. Since we've got a little party of three (counting my NPC) I say we start the journey in the Valleys of Boulder. Wes will be in town for a routine resupply. Could we safely assume you other two will be in the area for the same reason?

Wes has been wanting to check out an old ranger station in the national park, and will need to recruit a team to help!

He's going to need someone good with circuitry, to check out the building's electrical work as well as get the radio tower in working order.

I'm guessing Knoxville will have made contact with Syllia at some point considering she likes Mentats? Depending on how long she's been in town. Wes could ask Knoxville to point him towards a tinkerer.

As for Huangye, I imagine The Grizzlies might target him to get roughed up. A foreign loner wandering town would have no one to watch his back. Wes could happen upon them, help him out of a scrap, see his skills, and invite him along to the mountains.

Wes could promise any salvage to the mechanic, as well as a share of caps to both.

(I'm imagine Wes and Syllia haggling over the Mentats stash at some point when they're traveling regularly together down the road lol)

What do you two think?

Time to do some shovel-fu on some hooligans...Ruffians, even.

ShadowFlash ShadowFlash welcome back my man, welcome back. I'm a bit confused by the vault tech portion of your character's backstory. Vault tec should no longer exist by the time your character is born. What was the thought process including them in his backstory?

Well, I thought they had cryogenics in that same Vault in Nevada location. Similar to Fallout 4, he was frozen in them

Mmmmmmm I see, so you're a cryogenically frozen vault dweller who joined the NCR post thaw? You lived in Boulder before the war, and moved back there after you served as a ranger?

One more question: I'm not seeing a ton of underlying motivation in your bio, so it's hard for me to place you on a path. One character likes robots, I can use that as motivation. The other is a wanderer in need of caps, and wants to be outside of the city centers anyways, so wandering the wild is a given for him.

What drives your character to continue surviving?

It says in his history: "To find a purpose". His whole purpose was to find who he wants to be after being a part of the NCR. Thus, he needs to survive to find out.

You are correct with the post thaw stuff.

Well I must admit if your guy's archetype is "pretty nice guy who can dual wield an assault rifle and a sawed off shotgun" we'll get to the Grizzlies arc of the roleplay sooner rather than later lol.
