[Exalted: Planet Earth] The Creation-Spanning Weave

@Lord-Leafar, have you got an estimate of when our resident mad scientist will be ready for action? You should take your time to get settled in, of course, real life comes before games, but an idea would be nice :)

I never meant to imply that we would have had extensive contact prior to exaltation. For one thing, Charon only entered that scene as the Greek pro-democracy movement radicalized post-2010. For another, Isaac has never been particularly interested in pursuing such contacts prior to his Second Breath. But now that he can tell reality to sit down and shut up, Greece is a pretty obvious place to start shaking things up.
Indeed, wasn't saying that to disagree, just making an observation.

@Esbilon I apologize for my delay, right now I'm apartment hunting and it's not an easy task when hardly anybody speaks english here, but I do hope to devote some time to finish up my stats and story in a couple of days, so maybe within 5 days I think. Sorry again for my slowness, but feel free to begin without me and I'll adapt later on to what you guys have set up.

Alright. I also still need an updated backstory from @Kaji-Oni, but with at least one of you finishing up, I should be able to start the game no later than Sunday.

I need everyone to tell me what you've done that's obviously supernatural since Exalting, and in particular if you're on Youtube or similar.

Obviously supernatural... well, Tom was being chased by poachers for interfering when he Exalted, so they obviously saw it. Not a big deal though, since he killed them all. And then took the shape of one to get back to their bosses, and killed them all. Since then, not much that was overtly supernatural, except maybe one or two uses of Perfect Symmetry + 3rd Appearance to talk people into things. He's spent much of the intervening time hunting new shapes and practicing with/reveling in having greatly enhanced physical prowess. Most of that was away from people, and when not, nothing too much more notable than what you'd find by googling parkour videos.

bleh, changed the backstory and stats are up. Sorry for being incommunicado life has been a bitch and half recently. I apologize for slowing this game down.

Well, she hasn't done anything overtly magical yet, like blow someone's head off by yelling at him. Use of Social Charms to affect a theatre audience is easily rationalized away by everyone.

The main tip-off to Lavinia's supernatural nature is not anything she actively does so much as her near-constant Resonance bleed and the way it affects the production she's in -- electrical systems fail, lightbulbs burst, shadows move on stage where no shadows should be and doors lock by themselves, or swing open without anyone touching them. A dressing-room mirror cracks "from side to side" when she looks into it. The sound system lets out eerie wails in the middle of the show, or plays snippets of voice recordings -- but are they recordings? -- of actors long dead. The toilet and the sink in the women's bathroom always back up after she finishes using them, to her annoyance...and after she unplugs them and leaves, begin to spit out blood or green goo. Videos taken of the performance show hazy shapes that excited watchers identify as ghosts. The cast themselves have had an abnormal number of accidents and illnesses. Also, it's been raining near-constantly, and their have been a record number of lightning strikes in and around New York City.

So far, people simply think it's one of those legendary "cursed" runs of Macbeth. Some have even started making and wearing T-Shirts, like they do for Spider-Man -- "I Survived Macbeth at the Belasco!" Sooner or later, though, someone's going to connect the dots.

To complicate things further, Lavinia herself might not fully understand what's going on -- she knows she feels less and less comfortable in broad daylight, but the idea that the sky grows dark and overcast when she goes out because of her would seem absurd. She's aware she's no longer at ease in cheerful social settings, but she puts that down to the emotional aftermath of her near-death experience, and the demands of her role. She feels an urge to go full-out Goth when decorating her room and choosing her wardrobe -- it just feels more "natural" that way -- but she hasn't grasped the fact that she needs these things to keep her undead nature under control. (If she had, she would have a lot less Resonance to deal with.) She understands something happened to her that night, something that changed her in ways she can't explain, and she's been surreptitiously reading New Age and occult books trying to figure out what -- but it's a pretty big jump from that to "living vampire".

@Kaji-Oni, I like this bg much better :) I still need to know what you've been doing if you don't want to start the game in that CEO's chair. Also, like our lunar friend, you're more than a little charm-heavy. It's not a problem, but consider moving some of that xp somewhere else. Particularly from the ess 3 charms, you need Perfect Mirror to pull off the very nice stunt at the end, but you don't need Wise Eyed Courtier Technique, Flawless Backtrace Technique, Phantom Conjuring Performance or Memory-Reweaving Discipline.

Would having an old high school friend show up and turn out to be a "weretiger" help her make the conceptual leap? ;)

Only, now I think it would be funnier if she figured it out just before he showed up...

"Tom...I am the monster that breathing men would kill!"

"That's nice. I'm a tiger. RAWR."

He's looking good. Perhaps a bit light on the Ability side and heavy on the Charm/Knack side. If you could give his Abilities a look over and see if there's anything missing that'd be good I think.
Went back and made a few changes based on this advice, dropping a Charm and getting a couple more ability dots... and then discovering I'd overspent. Urgh. Should all be good now.

Hmmm, I will write up a little paragraph with him using Perfect Mirror to be a few more people and wondering what the hell has happened to him. Anyway I can get rid of those charms, and buy them back with xp that we earn. What would you recommend I spend the XP on?

Got my character's story up, stats and mechanics should come shortly afterwards. I think I'm gonna go with a less Dr. Banner/Hulk approach, and more of a Dr. Manhattan vibe with my character, while keeping to the Jekyll/Hyde concept.

I like it. One problem though, modern nuclear physics labs look like this:

They're not the sort of things you can meaningfully thrash in a fit of rage. Work is done in large collaborations, people have multiple online backups etc. The solitary genius exists, sure, but not in experimental nuclear or high energy physics.

I have a feeling I may do this rather a lot, sorry. If you'd rather be free of me stopping your every idea in its tracks, you may want to consider chemistry instead of physics.

No, on the contrary. I have little to no knowledge of physics, so I won't try and presume otherwise, so whenever I put in a fact or detail that is improbable or just wrong, feel free to point me in the right direction.

In this case, the rage fit is there only for thematic purposes, the actual effects on his lab and research are of no consequence to the story, it simply serves as the stepping stone to his Exaltation (keeping in theme the failure needed for Infernals to exalt) and murder of his ex-wife.

Alright, the place he worked probably looked much like any other office. Computer, desk, papers everywhere. Since he's a genius, it's possible that he's managed to get a position with little to no administrative, grant-applying or teaching duties, but those are common otherwise. He will almost certainly have a grad student or two as well as some associated post docs (people with a PhD who haven't got a permanent position yet). He is also part of a large Collaboration, probably ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment, yes physicists are even worse than historians at naming things).

Alright, sounds good. How much is a scientist in such a position expected to earn? Basically, what Resources rating he would reasonably have?

It is a sad truth that scientists are underpaid, particularly in Germany. I'd say Resources 3 from his salary. If he's the kind who spends a good deal of time applying for personal grants, and politicking to get prizes, it's possible to push it to 4.

Fair enough, besides the obvious abilities, any skills that you recommend to invest in? For example Bureaucracy, would that be useful for asking for funds and/or investors? Or would socialize fit that task better?

Also, I'm thinking of getting the Linguistic Genius merit (Scroll of Heroes pg 54), would that be ok? If yes, what is the cost of merits in experience?

Linguistics Genius is fine, and priced as a Background, that is 3 xp per dot.

It is hard to get anywhere in science without a decent understanding in Bureaucracy, forms must be filled and sent to the right people at the right time. Socialize is also useful, and related to that Connections, to know what's going on in one's field and who can work well with whom. Now, it should be said that a lot of good scientist do not have high ranks in Socialize, but it is very possible to have. Linguistics and Presence (or at least related specialties) are essential to writing both papers and grant applications. Performance for giving lectures and seminars. And of course the science itself is Occult.
