Hmm. I have no idea how my character would react to food riots... he doesn't particularly enjoy seeing individual persons suffering, but he's perfectly fine with reducing the number of people in the world, and would probably feel a bit of "I told you so" at the mega-farms, combined with righteous outrage at said desertification. Hard to know whether to start there, with the oil mines, or Japanese fishing trawlers... might just go along with however Lavinia reacts.


As for Charm reqs, don't look at me. I've never been able to grok the Sidereal set.

Stealth, Larceny with a bit of hacking from the Lore tree and some social charms to round him out. I want him to be able to sneak into any facility and recover sensitive information or objects, and be able to impersonate important persons to institute change from within. My dream scene right now is pretending to be a Senator with Perfect Mirror and working my social mojo to institute some reform.

Probably be just as easy to actually get elected Senator, in either your own or a false identity, but that does seem pretty cool. Too bad there's not a real perfect Stealth effect...


For the Social stuff, make sure you get Hypnotic Tongue Technique and Irresistable Salesman Technique. The latter is especially ridiculous.

If you're gonna be involved in politics, Performance is a must if you will be dealing with speeches and large groups of people, besides that I would suggest to invest in some Bureaucracy and possibly some Socialize charms, with the right ones you can very much own any bureaucracy or social group you want, or severely cripple or destroy any opposition you might encounter. Browse through them and see which ones fit your goals and will work the best for you.

Meh. With the right Charms ,a Solar can easily sway an electorate to recall an official and hold a new special election, and you can resign once you've made the changes you want.


Admittedly, that is starting to get more involved than just doppelganging an existing Senator.

On balance, though, I'd think that the poverty riots in the US would (like the British) be sparked not by a shortage of bread and circuses, but by an increasingly paramilitary police force committing some atrocity or another and walking away with obvious impunity, because they're only doing it to people with a suspicious skin color, political orientation or social class.


If your character's motivation is not specifically centered around providing food for the hungering masses, then the goal of "create[ing] an activist who gets involved in politics through the tragedy of losing his loved ones to those in power" would be equally well served by having said loved one be collateral damage during police riots. Or the collateral damage who sparks the riots, for that matter.

Remember that the Night Caste Anima does not make Obvious charms any less Obvious, it just lets you use a much larger amount of motes without glowing in the dark.

Also, I could see something like the British 2011 riots happening in the US, and a bit worse because the world is a bit worse. But that still only takes you from 6 deaths to 36 for the larger populations and maybe then 72 for the darker world. Of course, 72 is more than you need to lose your siblings.


But, poverty riots in general are much more likely after the start of the current depression, which is (I think) generally accepted to be 2007.

For Europe and for the American suburban working poor, yes the depression began in 2009 ('07/'08 was just a financial panic, '09 was when it hit the productive economy).


For the urban working poor, the depression began in 2001/02 and never stopped.


And now factor in widespread civilian access to automatic firearms...

I was a very poor student in London right before the depression spread there, and I was slowly starving because I couldn't make my dollars go far enough. People told me I was insane to go across the pond, "with things as they are". They were right. :-/

Good place to start. My likely methods would probably make it counterproductive for them to be directly associated with me, though, but I could certainly funnel them any money that came my way.

Thomas Eisenhorn: Assuming that he has any connections with the European direct action community (AFA, ALF, etc.) - which is likely given that environmentalist direct action is pretty much what he does - then there is a contact point through Alexis 'Charon' Demetrios, who is one of Isaac's contacts.


Francis Durant: Three potential contact points. First, through information freedom and civil liberty organizations, via the Chaos Computer Club and Estavan 'Quixote' Cordona Gomes. Second, through general anti-Austerity political organizing, via Die Linke. Third, through the same direct-action community mediating the connection to Eisenhorn.


Lavinia Brown: Isaac has a daughter named Whitney Willoughby who lives and works in New York, and who could easily be one of the people who used to watch her plays before it was cool.

I never meant to imply that we would have had extensive contact prior to exaltation. For one thing, Charon only entered that scene as the Greek pro-democracy movement radicalized post-2010. For another, Isaac has never been particularly interested in pursuing such contacts prior to his Second Breath. But now that he can tell reality to sit down and shut up, Greece is a pretty obvious place to start shaking things up.
