Fantasy Descendants of the Curse

"A whimsical sorcerer called your imagination!"

Sabella glowered, narrowing her eyes and glowering at the other wolf as he pranced around her in quite the annoying fashion.

"You really can't have it all, brains and beauty. I knew there was some sort of flaw when it came to wolves like you."

Fredric stared up at Apollo in terror, and confusion. What the hell happened to bring on this rage in him? Fredric didn't know but the thought of torture made him panic. "No wait! Apollo!" He yelled fighting off the wolves who were draging him back. "Don't do this! I can help you!" He struggled more, but the more he worked the more it hurt. "I can tell you about the other pack! Please! They are going to attack again, you need my help!" He called to Apollo whimpering desperately trying to get out their grip.

Donahue stopped dancing with back to her he rolled his eyes at her insult, then dramatically turned around to face her. "Oh, ouch!  I am offended. That trully hurt." He pretended to clutch his abdomen in pain. "Here I thought you were a nice she wolf, at least where manners are concerned to make up for the...lack of everything else, but I guess with she-wolves like you, you can't have anything." He retaliated sounding ruder than he intended but he didn't care. This girl was nice to him one minute ride the other. He was only trying make a joke and she had to get her knickers in a knot about it, and so he was giving her a taste of her own medicine.

"Like I said, Donahue. When it comes to wolves, like us I suppose, we can't have both. You'll have your pretty face, and more than adequate bodily appearance and I'll have my... well I'll have my smart mouth. Although if it's an asset no one's told me yet."

Perhaps she had been a bit harsh. Of course she had. She always was. Hoping that her stab at herself may lighten the mood, she smiled quite awkwardly at Donahue.

"But who knows? My mother was very beautiful when she was young but was dumb enough to mate and marry my father. Now that her looks have deteriorated she's far more present when it comes to her thinking. Maybe it'll be the same with you," she teased," you'all get saggy and old and smart and I'll do the opposite. Like a fine wine, it only gets better with age, and perhaps a little stupider."

Apollo spun on his heel and was at Fredric's throat so quickly it was as if he hadn't moved at all from that very spot, his hand completely consuming the witch's neck and slowly squeezing harder and harder as his rage swelled in his gut and seemed to pour out into the iris's of his pain ridden, greyish eyes.

"How stupid do you think I am? The rivals of my pack for a decade now purchase strengthening charms from a notourisly capable witch, just hours after scouting my territory and borders? Do you-" Apollo squeezed his hand tighter and then hissed his words out between clenched teeth,"-think I'd be so daft as to not see what's coming next?"

"Right." Was all Donahue said not finding her attempt at a joke very funny. He was proud of his physic and thought of himself as quite intelligent for having been a lone wolf most of his life. Only wolves who became crippled and unable for to use their muscle become "saggy" with age, one example being Thea's father. So Sabella's  joke delivered in the way it was disappointed him. "I'm going to see if Thea needs any help." He said turning from her and making his way out of the ring of drunk and dancing wolves not actually heading for Thea's room, instead heading deeper into the woods taking a jar of moonshine with him.

"Wait! Thea doesn't need-"

Sabella went to stop him from following her friend, scared it would only upset Thea even more. But to her surprise he went in the opposite direction of Thea's den. Quickly she pursued him, perhaps she was being terribly annoying but what would he be doing going out into the woods with more than enough moonshine? The party was here not out there.

"Hey! Donahue, wait!" The she wolf caught up quickly,"have I offended you? What's the matter?"

Fredric gasped clutching at Apollo's hands desperate for air as he could feel his wind pipe being crushed beneath the large wolve's hands. "Then..."  He struggled to breathe, staring at Apollo as black spots began to invade his vision. "Let me.......help......you..." He wheezed, loosing more of his strength with every passing second.

Amber glad her son was now okay put him to bed next to his brother and went looking for Apollo. Knowing how Apollo had charged off like a bat out of hell when he saw what happened to their son and she worried for who ever got in his way.

"You don't know when to quit, do you?" He asked looking back at Sabella as he picked up his pace. He wanted to be alone with his thoughts and his drink, to think over his life and drowned out his regrets.  He knew Thea didn't love him, hell she barely even liked him, it didn't help that her best friend liked him more than she did, or that the Alpha's weak  son was his competition.

"No, I don't," she readily admitted and matched his pace, her long legs easily echoing his stride,"especially when an apology is in order."

She swung her leg out and around to stand in front of him and block his path.

"I'm sorry for being, well, miserable again. And I'm sorry Thea is upsetting you. She enjoys your company and the last thing she would want to do is hurt you."

Sabella took a few steps backwards and leaned up against a tree, gnawing her lip and lower gum as she began to spew what "Thea" thought was his most redeeming qualities, none of which Thea had actually told her but qualities that Sabella admired herself about the impressive young wolf.

"She finds your looks very becoming, your  sensibility, knowledge and skill in the hunt, leadership qualities and the inability to be far less irritating that anyone else we know, did I mention she enjoys your chest? Arms? Because she does, I think- she does! Because she told me. She tells me often."

Sabella listed and soon stumbled over her words, looking anywhere but at him to avoid any further embarrassment on her part.

"What would help me was if you were to die, very slowly, very painfully," Apollo growled releasing his vice like grip relectuntly,"and my pack will ensure that and hopefully you'll comply as well, witchling."

Again, he shoved him by the throats to his knees and repeated his orders to the omegas before spotting his mate across the span between himself and the rest of the dens.

"Amber! How is he? Where is he? What have they done for him?"

He seemed almost dizzy after such rage had coursed through out him, nothing that he'd felt in many years. The love he had for his children and Amber was so easy to exert and come by, but these feelings of such resentment sent him back to place in his mind that he wished had never been.

Donahue simply nodded not accepting or denying her apology, but instead listening to her. With a raised brow he watched her fidget and squirm, it rather irritated him that she couldn't even lie to his face instead looking everywhere than him. "Then why does she not tell me herself, we have been together for sometime now one would  think that is plenty of time to voice these opinions. Instead she acts like I repulse her, then openly chases after your brother right in front of me!" he was getting worked up now and sighed trying to calm himself. "Please leave me, you do not know how painful it is to have the person of your dreams dangled right in front of you yet they want nothing to do with you." He replied his voice filled with anguish as he walked past her twisting the lid off the jar and tossing it aside. He wouldn't need to re close the jar, not when he was planning on finishing it off.

Fredric to the ground gasping and wheezing trying to catch his breath, but he didn't have anytime to because as soon as Apollo was done speaking they were on him dragging him back, not to where they were first holding him but somewhere new. "No! Stop don't do this! APOLLO!!" He cried out before being gagged with a old rag.

"He's in bed now, everything is fine, his jaw was broken but because he is so young they healed it quickly." She said with relief in her voice but then she noticed how strange his body was acting, eyebrow twitching, muscles tensed, eyes blood shot and hands shaking. He hadn't been this way in a very long time. "Apollo... what did you do?"

Her heart twisted painfully in her chest and she curled her hands into fists, nails digging into the calloused flesh of her palms.

"You have no idea. For years yo-" Sabella swallowed her words,"-he has chased the tail of a shewolf with no appreciation whatsoever for his talents. And I have to deal with it because I won't let that jeopardize my friendship with her and I won't let it jepordize my chance at the leadership of my pack. Neither should you. You have so many options, Donahue, more than you could ever know, you just have to open your eyes and look."

"What I had to, to make things right for the pack, for our pups."

Apollo reassured her quite softly and took her into his arms, wrapping himself tightly around her in order to solidify her exsistence and that she was indeed right there with him. So much of the past had been dug up with the last few days that distinguishing between past and present was become so hard.

"You don't think I haven't looked? I did and I found Thea, she is the one I want, no one else. If I hadn't looked I would have just settled for which of the alpha's daughters doesn't want just a quick shag from me, which currently would be Rose but everyone one knows she's no smarter than a box of rocks. Which leaves me with no one, and no reason to even have joined this pack, so I'm sorry the people In your life are so jeopardizing  to your future plans, but at least  you have people in your life who respect and care about you." He barked sounding much madder than he intended accidentally letting his emotions show through.

How impossibly stupid could one wolf be? How daft could he possibly be when it came to women and still be that good looking?

"Respect me? Care about me? Donahue, you have more respect in the pack than I-"

An idea, a fabulous idea, formulated in her brain in mere seconds. He had more respect in the pack than she did, simply because he was male, because he was a great hunter, he demanded attention and he got it from his fellow pack mates. It didn't matter about her growing feelings towards him, this was about getting to the top now and Donahue would be her ride up.

"I have a proposition for you, for us, that may very well get us both what we want.

You'll have Thea and I'll have my father's pack," inhaling deeply she moved towards him, mere chunks of her face visible through the bands of moonlight that cut through the foliage," just listen. Mate with me. And when I say that I mean lie about it. We just pretend. We'll live together, eat together, keep up appearances in public. The pack will no doubt put us at the top. I'm the alpha's eldest daughter, my brother has no interest in the position and you are all they want in a strong leader. We'll have power, respect and you can have Thea. You can have anything you want as an alpha. My father took two mates literally. You would only be taking one in all technicality and it would be Thea."

Amber frowned at him he was begining to worry her but she let him embrace her regardless. "I love you Apollo, but you-" she was inturupted by the ear piercing screams pure agony coming from deep with in the den. "What on earth?!" She exclaimed in shock trying to pull away from Apollo but struggled against his tight hold around her. "Fredric?!" She exclaimed recognizing his voice, it sounded like he was being murdered! "What have you done?!" She looked at him  her mate in horror. What was happening to Fredric? Why?!

Donahue nearly spat out the moonshine he had been drinking when he heard Sabella's purposal. He didn't like this, not a bit. He stared at her for a moment waiting for her to burst out laughing and tell him it was a joke, but she didn't. "Know you can't just fake a mated bond, like humans fake marriages. It is the bonding of two being's on a spiritual level wolves can sense when other wolves have a mate. It isn't just something you go around saying. Why do you think your Aunt Amber was taken away so easily, she was now trully mated, just saying you have a mate isn't enough. And even if we could just say we were mated they would expect a litter to follow shortly or else we are deemed useless, not only that but do you really think Thea would follow along with this? Us being mated would only give her more reason to leave me." He said sitting down on the ground a cool breeze blowing through the trees and giving his shirtless torso goose bumps.

"What have I done?" Apollo looked taken aback at how horrified she was,"what have done? That creature attempted to take away our family again! Again! Have you forgotten them? Our boys? Our little girls? The pups you nursed and carried for months, the product of our love and hard work here and they were torn apart in front of your very eyes, their blood stained the nursery and their flesh carpeted the floor, their young gnawed on the broken bodies of our babies. How can you forget? How dare you forget them?"

The same anger swelled within him, the betrayal he felt was like a hot knife that gutted from his belly to his chin. He let go of her, snarling as he shoved her away.

"Let this be an example! Let their damned scouts hear his screams and know that this is what awaits the wolf or witchling that wages war with my pack!"

The alpha wolf cried out above Fredric's screams and the pack gathered quickly in the clearing at his proclamation.

"So we let her in on it. The whole thing. It'll be between the three of us and she'll be far more willing to stay with you if you have my trust. It's not like the pack will expect me to be all over you or for us to be in love. That's not who I am. It will raise more suspicion if I am anything but what I am now. Pups, we'll deal with later. Think about it, Donahue, the world is our oyster."

Sabella came closer, the entirety of her face illuminated now. Her skin was ghostly pale and taut over the sharpness of her cheek bones and her brown eyes loomed large and wide and full of an intense and wild hunger.

Amber glared at him, memories of their dead children causing tears to sting her eyes. "Fredric is innocent! Guilty of only trying to survive in this wretched world!" Amber  yelled back at him, angry at him for many reasons and scared because of how easy it was for Apollo to revert back to his old ways. Back to the days when she would rather die than be with the demented Apollo a moment longer, she hated those days and thought they were behind them, but the stress of everything seemed to be bringing them back. "Fredric had no plan to wage any wars, but if he dies the entire coven will come after us and it won't be a war it will be a massacre, one none of us survive." She said holding back tears trying not to cry at the thought of her deceased childern instead storming off away from Apollo, to save Fredric trying to hide her tears  from her pack as she went into the den.

Donahue looked up at her he didn't like any of this and knew it wouldn't work. Not only that but it would probably give Thea's father a heart attack to know he had decided to mate with Thea's best friend instead of her, and it would make other pack members hate him too. so far this didn't really seem like it would profit him all that much. He didn't much care about being alpha per say and could always force Thea into a mated bond, though that wasn't what he wanted it seemed better than living a life of lies. "Remind me, why I would I agree to this?" He asked looking up and down as he spoke. "Niether mate would truly love me, I would never truly be alpha, plus I would be brother to that fool Valac and the entire pack would be watching us like Hawks to make sure our fake love is real enough. So remind me again, why should I agree to this?"

The way he put it, it didn't sound very convincing at all. She was never very persuasive and she supposed this was one of this times that it would've been a good thing to be.

"Alright. Fine. Don't help me and I won't bother to help you with Theodosia either or my brother for that matter. Keeping them apart would be far easier with me helping but," she shrugged and turned on her heel, pushing back the dense underbrush,"You're on your own now. Best of luck."

Why were men so difficult? Her heart was sinking with every foot fall. It could've been so easy if he had just given the whole thing a chance, if he had given her a chance.

Donahue watched her leave and almost felt bad, but he didn't want to lie to the entire pack just so she could become Alpha. "Good luck to you too." He muttered relaxing more against the tree and drinking the rest of the moonshine. He couldn't tell if he fell asleep or passed out, either way he was unconscious in only his trousers and shoes as the moonlight shone on through the trees illuminating his lone figure.
